+ THE PULSE MAGAZINE - THE NEW YEARS EDITION +
  __________________________________________
We bring you the New Years edition, LIVE at the CAMELOT
party in HERNING/DENMARK.

A lot of Commodore 64 groups are present here, perhaps more
than expected. Learn more about how the party developed
during the 53 hours the party was open. Also notice our new
outfit, which is finally readable for the Americans!

Use JOYSTICK in PORT 2. Wiggle JOY left and right, to change
PAGES and FIRE to reach the MENU!
Comments from the editor, 29th of December 1993

Here you have it, the brand new and awaited outfit, also now
available for our eager American readers. It was also about
time I admit, but the outfit we had on the program for the past
months enabled us of spreading it overseas, eventhough we
wanted to.

This month we have a few surprises. PSYCHOBILLY presents
you with the yearly releases, which should give you a clear
picture on who should be credited as the best in 1993.

Because of our tight schedual, we were unable of including the
WORLD OF DEMOS this month. That means you will have to wait
until next month for the reviews of the party demos. But we
introduce a new chapter with SUN DANCER called PIXELS, in
which he will review the best graphics, whether it be demos or
simply pictures every month.

All in all we have a great issue for you to read, eventhough it
was difficult writing at times, due to the noice from the crowd
and the competitions (AMIGA and PC sucks!)..

But we must move on, so I will leave you with the magazine.
Hope you will enjoy and spread it as much as you all did the
previous editions!

THE CAMELOT PARTY REPORT by DUKE/REGINA
       _____________________________________
The party started at 10 in the morning, and there were snow
all over Denmark. But once we reached the party-place, it
seemed as if the weather did not matter at all. It was a magni-
ficent place, with one large hall for the sceners that were so
smart to registrer for the party, and then there was another
hall, that one for the sceners that did not register (did I
forget to tell you that it sucked bad? Well, it did). Next to
the lame hall, there was a big hall for those that wanted to
get some sleep, it was a nice roomy one, ideal for the purpose.

During the stay, we vitnessed a lot of original ideas from the
party arrangors. Unfortunately not all of them was all that
brilliant. It started out with the super KYD & BALLE produc-
tion, which was in truth all it was put up to be. Later it was
time for the rope-pulling (or whatever you may call it). Anyway
that was no fun, but then the Karaoke came, where all the
sceners had the opportunity to get on stage, and show their
lamer-voices to the massive (and very critical) crowd. That was
quite funny, until some guy came on and spoiled it for all the
heterosexual guys at the place (you should have been there
to know). But in any event, it all ended up with the hosts
running off with the an Amiga 32 (like that was a great loss
for the "losers").

The party was quite funny, especially when your eyes started
rolling around because of the lack of sleep (I was sure I saw a
sheep near one of the doors!?!). The constant music kept you
going, otherwise I am sure everyone would have fallen asleep.

Now for the arrangements at the party. It proved to be a huge
lie that they had plenty of food, and that it was cheap. Let me
tell it like this, it was just as cheap as there was a lot of
food (or the other way around?!). Anyway, it sucked bad, and I
hope the organizers will get out of this party with a huge dept
because of their lame actions.

But the scener is an independent animal, it can always adapt,
nomatter how lame the invironment. And then it became a nice
party afterall.

The competition was held on a large screen, it was quite cool,
so nothing negative to say about that. Chairs were pulled in-
front of it, so that you could always get real close if you
wanted to (and if there was room).

On the second floor they had a laserdisc room. During the
party they showed movies such as CLIFFHANGER and ALIENS
III. But the room was quite smelly, maybe because they did not
let any air into the room. But who wants to watch movies on a
party anyway?

This report was finnished at 23:30 Tuesday the 28th. We want-
ed to put out the magazine at the party, so therefore you will
have to wait for the results of the end of the party.
All in all, the party was cool. But the arrangements sucked as
hell. CAMELOT should never have gotten involved with it,
atleast when the AMIGA and PC groups does not give a ****
about the 64 sceners. But maybe we should thank CAMELOT
for being as forgiving. I would have burned down the AMIGA and
PC HQ if it was me.

The reason why I am cursing off the AMIGA and PC dudes, is
the lack of respect they have showed for the good old and
traditional 64.

64 FOREVER! Do not forget it, and never let anyone tell you
otherwise. Being a part of the 64-scene is not a status, it is
an attitude. Whatever, Till next month!

Monthly Releases

             + MONTHLY RELEASES +
             ___________________
As expected the last month of the year was the busiest!
You will read about 27 (!) new games in this chapter and who
released them. And I am not talking about fakelable releases or
previews. Unfortunately only one fullprice title was released
by the companies!
Another negative developement is the quality of cracks and
games some groups release. For this case I added a new rule
to the system which should correct this in a positive way for
the scene. (Since the last modification we have no single
re-release in this issue. People learn it seems!)

About The American Scene..
____________________
There is not much to tell about. EMPIRE promised a lot of fixed
wares around Chrismas because Extremist is back for the
holidays, Vizz will fix and Booze announced his last fix:
MAYHEM IN MONSTERLAND!
TSM remains inactive due to Zaldron moving house.
The fixer-section of RSI increased - Count Zero finally got
a ntsc-chip aswell and released his first fix already!
CODERZ provided a bunch of imports, but most of them were
below 100%.Euro Lamer and Stupid Canadian started to call out
on Forplay. No news about RAD or AVATAR..

            SYSTEM MODIFICATION (1.3)
          ________________________
All multiload games released without levelpacking (intro linked
and thrown out) will be deducted one point from the total
amount of points for that ware.
Any kind of fixfile (100% or 2nd trainerversion) will decrease
the total amount of points for one ware about one point, too.

The major boards for the consideration if a ware is put out
as first are:
FORPLAY, DOWN BY LAW, THE DUNGEON, CHAOTIC FACTOR,
THE EVIL ISLAND, HOLIDAY IN CAMBODIA
Less important but drawn into consideration aswell:
THE SHAOLIN TEMPLE, PHIBERCOM, TOW, EDGE OF MIDNIGHT
ALPHAFLIGHT (FRG, OZ, Holland, USA) (3.Rank/16.7.Points)
_____________________________________________
They started with an australian fullprice game called
HYPERSPACE (4.3) from SECTOR SOFT which was released on
pal and not levelpacked/trained (-1).
After that AFL could release PERPLEX II (3.3) from DOUBLE
DENSITY which was imported but not 100% fixed by CODERZ.
Later on they released a fixed version made by STING.
ZILLION (3.7) from DOUBLE DENSITY was released on pal and
fixed by CODERZ afterwards.
Another australian games called JEWEL CHEAST (3.8) was put
out which did not need any fix. The best ware they released
this month was LIONS OF THE UNIVERSE (3.6) from COSMOS
DESIGN which was released on pal and not levelpacked/trained
ALPHAFLIGHT (FRG, OZ, Holland, USA) (3.Rank/16.7 Points)
_____________________________________________
(-1). There was a better cracked VISION version of this game,
but unfortunately they did not spread it fast enough, so AFL
made the run here.
In the end of the month RULERS OF DARKNESS from the polish
company L.K.AVALON was put out by them. Due to the
uncomplete translation and crackingbugs, the CHROMANCE
version got credited. (budget! 50000zt=3$)

AVANTGARDE (FRG, USA, UK, etc) (6.Rank/5.7 Points)
_____________________________________________
This group managed to release the only fullprice game this
month called SUBURBAN COMMANDER (6.1) from ALTERNATIVE
AVANTGARDE (FRG, USA, UK, etc) (6.Rank/5.7 Points)
_____________________________________________
SOFTWARE which needed a fixfile to work 100% (-1). It did not
need any pal/ntsc fix. After that they put out a new preview
of FIELDS OF HADES (0.6).

CHROMANCE (Hungary, FRG, etc) (2.Rank/20.3 Points)
_____________________________________________
A managertype game called THE LEAGUE (2.4) from LESLIE
STRIKER SOFTWARE was released on pal by them.
MEMORY (2.0) a public domain puzzle game which was announed
to be fixed already was put out on pal together with another
puzzle game called ZAXON (2.2) which was imported but not
100% fixed by CODERZ.
CHROMANCE (Hungary, FRG, etc) (2.Rank/20.3 Points)
_____________________________________________
A so called "fullprice" hungarian game called
WASTED TIMES (3.2) from FREEBRAIN SOFTWARE was put out
by them on pal as the CODERZ import was not 100% fixed.
After AFL released a 50% translated and crashing version
of RULERS OF DARKNESS or LORDS OF THE DARKNESS (5.3)
how CHROMANCE translated the polish title, they provided a
properly translated and cracked version which did not need
any fix. (No fullprice credit as the hungarian currency has a
lower value than DM or $, so that the total value in a western
europe currency would be a budget game!)
At the same time they released KLEMENS (3.1) from TIM SOFT
which was fixed by CODERZ afterwards.
CHROMANCE (Hungary, FRG, etc) (2.Rank/20.3 Points)
_____________________________________________
The last ware for Chromance this month was STARBRAIN (3.1)
from ULTRAFORCE/MARKT+TECHNIK which was released
on pal and not levelpacked (-1). This game contains a remark-
able crackingprotection for those who still need to prove
themselves..

EPIC (DK, FRG, etc) (11.Rank/0.2 Points)
_____________________________________________
It seems this group had card problems this month so they
managed to provide the preview of a game with the name
GET READY (0.2) only.

ILLUSION (?Still Alive?) (8.Rank/2.5 Points)
_____________________________________________
Their supposely last release ever was FRONTBALL (2.5) from
CP VERLAG which was imported but not fixed by CODERZ.

IMPRESSION (Germany) (No Rank/-5 Points)
_____________________________________________
This group re-released a TALES OF BOON clown called
DARKSWORD (-5) which was released on GAME ON. The original
version of Tales Of Boon was supposed to be sold by Prestige,
but due to the bad distribution situation they sold it under a
different title to Double Density.

RED SECTOR INC. (FRG, UK, USA) (1.Rank/24.3 Points)
_____________________________________________
They started with a brilliant roleplaying game similar o
Dungeon Master called SHADOW OF THE EVIL (3.8) from
ULTRAFORCE/MARKT+TECHNIK which was released on pal and
not levelpacked (-1).
After that BATTLE (2.9) from DOUBLE DENSITY was put out
on pal by them. After AFL released a pal version of
DUELSTRIKE (4.4) from DOUBLE DENSITY, Red Sector released
the fixed version by MISTER PRESIDENT.
CHEEKY TWINS (2.7) from MARKT+TECHNIK was put out on pal
together with a lame reaction game called SMASHBALL (4.1)
from MARKT+TECHNIK which did not need a fix. GET IT (3.6)
from MARKT+TECHNIK was released on pal and fixed by
RED SECTOR INC. (FRG, UK, USA) (1.Rank/24.3 Points)
_____________________________________________
COUNT ZERO afterwards. Another quite decent puzzle game
was released by them called PUZZLEMASTER (3.8) from
MARKT+TECHNIK which was fixed by CODERZ below 100%
afterwards and finally 100% fixed by COUNT ZERO.
Red Sector tried to put out a fixed version of PERFECT
SYMETRIE but the CODERZ version made it faster to more
boards.

SUCCESS (Holland, FRG, etc) (7.Rank/2.6 Points)
_____________________________________________
This time with CYCLONES (2.6) from MARKT+TECHNIK on pal
only.
PANDORA (Germany) (9.Rank/1.7 Points)
_____________________________________________
They released a crappy reaction game called BOING (1.7) from
MARKT+TECHNIK which was released on pal.

THE RULING COMPANY (Holland, FRG, etc) (4.Rank/8.0 Points)
_____________________________________________
This group had a good month again. First they released an
australian budget called EPSILON4 (4.4) from LOADSTAR which
was imported by EMPIRE. Later on they released a preview
from CRAZY SUE PLUS (0.6) and the full game (3.0) from
BLUESTONE BUDGET on pal.

VISION (FRG, DK, etc) (5.Rank/6.9 Points)
_____________________________________________
This group put out a decent COSMOS DESIGN game called
BALLFEVER (3.2) on pal and PERFECT SYMETRIE (3.7) from
MARKT+TECHNIK which was fixed by CODERZ.

OTHER GROUPS
____________
LITHIUM+RAVE put out a crappy preview called CHRONIC THE
BADGER (0.3).

-LEGENDARY DEEDS PREVIEW (0.9)

So far about the wares put out this year. Notice that some of
the points have been corrected due to some newer system-
modifications. Notice that due to the large amount of wares
and groups mistakes can happen easier, so have mercy with the
editor. Special thanks to Benson/Red Sector Inc. for helping
at this place.

Global Report

+ THE NEW YEARS GLOBAL REPORT +
          _____________________________
The activities up to Christmas was nothing to brag about, but
a lot of games were released though. Still, that does not say
anything about the future of the 64, and by the looks of it,
we are moving towards a very difficult year for the 64-scene!

Many people claim the scene will be dead within 95, but it is
up to those that wants to keep it alive, to spread the word,
that activity pays off in the end.

Enough chit-chat, here follows a round-up of the news that
was made available by PSYCHOBILLY and me, with additional
help from ANARCHY of RSI.
* The Christmas brought many gifts, along with that, a new and
exciting group by the name of AVANTGARDE. The memberstatus
proves that this group will set the sails for a glorious future
in the scene, with members such as : JACK ALIEN, DEFF, JACK
DANIELS, FREESTYLE, DARKLORD, IKARUS, IRONCAT, PBX-
CECCENCE, LUCIFER, ONYX/DARK-ELF , RICHIE, WEASEL,
WIZLER, CYBER-SURFER, MAGIC-MAN, SKYWOLF and last but
not least the American sysop of CHAOTIC FACTOR-ODYSSEUS
(ex.CAESAR). DERBYSHIRE RAM did not join AVANTGARDE as
it has been told by many. He told THE PULSE MAGAZINE, that
he had some personal problems, that he wanted cleared, before
he resumed his activities. Sofar it looks as if his future
group may very well be AVANTGARDE though.

* VISION added a few members to their list, one of them being
DR.JONES that re-joined, after a short adventure with IMP-
RESSION. Also ICEBALL/MECHANIX and PEACEMAKER/CHRO-
MANCE was added to the group. Finally DECORIAN (cracker)
returned to the scene to join up with VISION. He has been away
since 1990.

* BACCHUS of FAIRLIGHT explains to THE PULSE MAGAZINE,
that he should have accused a German scener by the name of
SILENT, of being a police-informer, by mistake. He made this
accusation in one of his latest notes when spreading the FLT
wares, but has now made up for the damage. Other than that,
AARON and AYATOLLAH left the group, with AVALON returning
after a while in WRATH DESIGNS. The official memberstatus of
FAIRLIGHT goes as follows : BACCHUS, BAPPALANDER, BLACK
PRIEST, DINO, ENDURO, GERWIN, GRAYHAWK, HARLEKIN,
LEXI, OGAMI, OXIDY, RED DEVIL, ROWDY, SLEDGE, SPIROU,
TRON, VOK, WATCHMAN and THE ALCHEMIST.

* ALPHA FLIGHT is probably the biggest group in the scene
now. They added LORD CRUCIFER/ex.SACRED and DOC STO-
NED, a German mailtrader (ex.TRANCE, SPIRIT) who re-entered
the scene to join ALPHA FLIGHT. Also SMOOZE/EQUINOXE
joined in as his second group, and finally the Australian
phreaker JAZZCAT joined in to make the group more visible on
the US-boards. The news about MAJA being kicked proved to
be false, it was the mistake of SUPREME, which is now cleared.

* Letter written by MR.WAX/CHROMANCE for THE PULSE!
The game KILLING FIELDS has been re-cracked, and spread
by someone, and groups like ILLUSION, EXCESS, ETC. even
cracked that fake original. We have already noticed the same
with a preview some time ago, but thought it was just a lame
act by someone, and this faggot will stop re-cracking CHRO-
MANCE first-releases, but it seems we were wrong.

Dear re-cracker, please do not remove the CHROMANCE intro
from further releases, since we in CHROMANCE does not
spread the originals of our first-releases, so it might be very
obvious, that your wanna-be originals are pure re-cracks.

Thanks in advance, the CHROMANCE staff!
We will continue with some of the CHROMANCE happenings.
HAIN left SUCCESS because of some card-problems, and re-
joined CHROMANCE. Lately he has been traveling back and
forth between these two groups, so hopefully he will remain
in CHROMANCE this time. The Polish telecom has withdrawn
their bill they issued last month, so now it looks as if HAIN
will be calling out again in the near future. The official
CHROMANCE memberstatus goes a follows : JAZZY D, HAIN,
PAINKILLER, GRIFF, COP, ALEX, MR.WAX, JINX, ROUGH,
BLOCKBUSTER, JOYRIDE, THE MINISTRY, CHUM an THE UN-
HOLY.

* TRIAD kicked out ARCON and RAVAGE of the group. ARISE is
to be released again shortly according to DANE/TRIAD!
* About the group "JINX", MR.WAX/CHROMANCE explains to
THE PULSE MAGAZINE, that the group was infact formed as a
joke from a certain guy called MAELSTROM midst a conversa-
tion on CHAOTIC FACTOR. Someone said JINX was good for a
group-name, thereby joking around with JINX/CHROMANCE,
and then the "planning" started. So, JINX was never built!

* JAYCE left FOCUS and renamed into R!B and joined up with
the dutch cracking group AMNESIA as a coder. The current
status of AMNESIA goes like this : CALYPSO, SEAL, RIGGS,
PROPHECY, MAC2, ARTIX and R!D.

* GLASH/ex.LEGACY joined up with EXCESS as a cracker and
a coder. The ICE CREAM CASTLE is now EXCESS HQ.
* UNITED ARTISTS is rebuilt with original members, like PAC-
MAN and DESERT DEATH. They promised first-releases, and
still search for megaswappers. You should be able to reach
them at their VMB at (800)-788-7567, or find their address in
the Blackboard chapter.

* THE RULING COMPANY added a few members to their list. ZAR
(cracker), GOREFEST (swapper) and RAWFIST left PROXYON
and joined up with TRC. CRUZE/LITHIUM (Australian swapper)
also joined up. Because of the many PROXYON members joining
TRC, PROXYON is now dead!

* ANTITRACK, who recently joined up with F4CG, is still said
to be in LEGEND!
* DOXX left PROXYON and teamed up with NOICE!

* HUNTER, who claimed to have been in several groups, lately
with IKARI, claimed to have joined TALENT. I guess a lot of
people would give a lot to get their hands on this clown!

* VENGEANCE left SUCCESS in order to join up with the AUS-
TRALIAN group SHAZAM. VANDALISM NEWS is now a SHAZAM
production.

* COUNT ZERO of RED SECTOR INC. finally got his NTSC-chip,
so now it seems the red ones will add another fixer to the
group!

* PIGEON/ex.X-RATED joined up with ATLANTIS as a coder.

* TRICKET/ex.VISUAL REALITY decided to leave the scene.
He released a good-bye note for all of his friends to read!

* LARRY left TRANCE to team up with F4CG!

* ILLUSION is as good as dead. With the departure of the last
active link with the scene DERBYSHIRE RAM, SODAPOP also
decided to call it quitters. It seems sad but true!

* MURDOCK started calling out for GENESIS PROJECT again!

* WESTBAM left LEGEND, rumour says TYREE+RADAR are in!
* LINCOLN of PARADOX thought about starting PANTERA/64.

* SLIDE of EXTACY left the scene.

That's all the news we had. Pretty thin I admit, but the last
months were pretty hectic, so I guess it is good with a slow
month here and there...

That's it, from THE PARTY of 1993!

Crossfire

+ CROSSFIRE - THE AUTOPSY OF THE SCENE +
    _____________________________________
Habla espaniol? Welcome to another fine and delicate edition
of the most contriversial chapter in THE PULSE MAGAZINE
(thereby meaning the scene).

Last month we had a lot of leading stories, but this month we
had our reporter FRITZ NISSEHOE stationed at the CAMELOT
party, to follow the happenings as they occured.

Before we continue with this chapter, we at the editorial,
would like to remind you, that the text written in this chapter
is based on a pure subjective attitude, and should therefore
NOT be taken serious. Just so we will not get any complaints!
Party-Arrangors Admitted Plot To Starve 64 Sceners!
     ________________________________________
CAMELOT promised cheap food, and lots of it. That was very
far from the truth here at the party. The drinks came in many
different shapes (COLA and MILK), and the burgers were awe-
ful, but came cheap at 25 DKR (about 4.5 $).

Later the police was called in, and CAMELOT was booked for
over-charging the 64-attendants, and sentenced to death by
the high court of the 64!

There are still some guilty CAMELOT members walking around
on this earth, so look out for people over-charging food in
any of the world-wide stores!
I guess it is time for a couple of Christmas buffers (YEAH!)

Meanwhile at the house of HOK/RSI/EMPIRE
"Am I the only one that cares about 100% versions?"

Meanwhile at the house of RICH/EMPIRE
"CODERZ is the disgrace of the 64!"

Meanwhile at the house of JAZZCAT/AFL
"I like fair competition!!"

Okay, that is more than enough. We have more on the PARTY
program for you, so who wants to get down with buffers and
the likes!?! And that my friend, was a joke!
I really wonder how I can keep this jolly attitude going, when
all this noice keeps on distracting me constantly, at where I
am located at the party!

You may have realised that this months edition of CROSSFIRE
seems slightly different. You are right, I have decided not to
push myself into doing a regular issue of this ridiculous chap-
ter, instead I will improvise as we go along. Hopefully that
will bring out some entertaining text none the less!

But as you know, our SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT chapter this
month, is dedicated to the real heros that risks their lives to
write text for a stranger. We at the CROSSFIRE editorial,
have a few uncovered truth about the making of THE PULSE!
The following conversation was taped during the preparations
of this months interview with BURGLAR of SUCCESS!

(The preparation room contains several torturing instruments
for the use of the staff at THE PULSE MAGAZINE. We join the
conversation where BURGLAR has just been tied to a chair!)

[D] Come on BURGLAR, surely you must have something special
to reveal for us in the interview!

[B] No no, I already told you everything that happened during
my 64 career DUKE!

[D] Oh yeah, I do not believe you. What if I press this stick
up your back, then maybe you will start talking?

[B] Aaaarrgh.. Alright, something did happen to me once. It was
when I started in the scene in 1985. I am almost too embarrased
to tell you, but that stick sure helps. By accident I put the
disk lenghtwise into the disk-drive. Oh, I feel like a great
burdon has been liften from my shoulders. I am finally free
from this terrible sin!

[D] Shut up! Hmm, sounds like a good story to me! I better keep
you locked up in this room till we get THE PULSE released, so
noone else will get this exclusive story. Sleep well!

The Red Sector Incorporated And Alpha Flight Conflict
    _________________________________________
The two most powerful cracking-groups of today, have begun
what seems to be the battle of the 64-crown.

According to JAZZCAT/ALPHA FLIGHT, he feels that RED
SECTOR are nothing but a bunch of dumb dingos!

RED SECTOR is of the opinion, that JAZZCAT is the dingo in
this conflict, but they have not yet put any hard evidence on
the table.

BOD claims he has never done it with a DINGO, but he does not
exclude ever having dreamt about trying out new things in life!
+ NATURES CORNER - WATCHING THE SNOW FALL +
   _________________________________________
Welcome to another edition of NATURES CORNER, with your
host - POWERPLANT of LEGEND. (Scattered applaus!)

This month we have invited BOD, who are here to talk about his
latest behaviour on the boards, which has seemed rather agg-
ressive at times!

[P] Tell me BOD, are you having problems with your private
   life?

[B] Yes, LINDA refuses to set up a board in the states, even-
though I have told her my lust for female-sysops. SIGH!
Meanwhile at the house of SECRET MAN/RSI
"Aha, ALPHA FLIGHT strikes back with Australian budget
games, but we will pay back with Japanish fullprice games!"

Meanwhile at the house of HAIN/CHROMANCE
"Well, no I really want to be in SUCCESS. But I would also like
to be in CHROMANCE. No, I think I would rather be in SUCCESS.
No, maybe CHROMANCE would be a better choice.. etc.. etc!!"

That is about all we have for you from the CROSSFIRE editorial
this month, due to the deadline we have to go by at this party.

But until next month, remember NOT to take the scene too
serious. Hell, it is just a hobby of some sort! - THE END -

Profile

   + THE NEW YEARS PROFILE - BURGLAR/SUCCESS +
  _________________________________________
Welcome to the New Years edition of PROFILE. This month we
introduce two sceners, both regarded as experienced and
respected on their areas. Our first guest used to be a demo-
coder in the well-known demo-group POWERS OF PAIN. But
coding was not to be his call in the scene, something he was
to find out later in his career.

Now he is a member of SUCCESS, and success is just what he
has achieved. His name figures on all the world-wide cracking-
charts, and he has been nominated by many as the current, as
well as the future, most talented cracker. It gives us great
pleasure to introduce to you, the BURGLAR of SUCCESS..
[D] Welcome again ENNO. I understand this is the first inter-
view you have ever done for a magazine. Do you prefer to stay
out of the spotlight maybe?

[B] Hi ALEX, thanks for doing this interview with me. To answer
your first question, I would like to remark that I am both in
and out of the spotlight. In the spotlight when it comes to the
US-boards, because anyone calling boards cannot stay out of
the spotlight. But as I said before, I am also out of the spot-
light mail-scene wise. Practically no one knows me who does not
own a modem. I do not mailtrade. I do prefer staying out of
that scene, because I hate it when wanna-be lamers call me up
for numerous things!

[D] Still there is a lot of nice guys around the mail-scene,
but I must admit that there is nothing like the modem-scene.
Today you are probably only known as a cracker. Please tell us
a little about how you started in the scene, up to now!

[B] Well, it all started back in 1984 or 1985 when i got my 64.
A friend of mine (ROTOR/ex.POWERS OF PAIN) owned one too,
and he was already pretty good at coding, so I borrowed a ML-
book from him, and started to learn the basic machine-code.
After a few years in 1987-88, I met THE LOVERBOY/MANOWAR
and METALLICA/ex.ORION, UNIBIT, NATO. And then it all
started rolling. I started mail-trading, and soon I joined POW-
ERS OF PAIN. Our demos got better, and we were a bit known in
the scene. I stayed a couple of years in the group, but we all
got other interests, and I went my way. After a few months of
unclearness, NIGHTSHADE and FALCON (at that time both in
VERDICT) reformed SUCCESS with ARROGANCE, and more of
the old members. I joined about a week or two later. Being a
member of SUCCESS, I developed my IFFL-routines, and people
started to recognize me as a decent cracker. At this point I
have to thank NSD for the propaganda he did for me, otherwise
I would not have gotten this far. Things started to get better
and better, and we made what SUCCESS is as of today.

[D] And it certainly is a lot today, you have done a great job
with the others. Now that we got your career covered, please
tell us something about the man behind the handle BURGLAR!

[B] I will start with some statistics. I am about to get 19 the
second of February. I am 1.86m tall, weigh approximately 80 kg,
have blue eyes and dark-blond hair. I am studying Computer
Science at the Free University in Amsterdam, where I am living
too. Now something about my character (the hard part), I like
to make fun of people, I am definately lazy. I criticize people
a lot (scene-wise), because nowadays people do not seem to
care about quality anymore. Cracking has become intro-linking,
and the word training is soon to be whiped from your dictiona-
ry. Everybody just wants to be first, and I hate that - I want
quality too. For the rest, I am easy to get a long with, as
long as you do not backstab me or act lame!

[D] Well, that is simple demands really. Did it come as a sur-
prise to you, the huge success you got with your cracking?

[B] A few years back, I could not have dreamt about the suc-
cess I have, but nowadays there are only a very few crackers
that I can compete with. It would have been different if ANTI-
TRACK, DOC, C and C, SAURON, POWERPLANT, MEGASNAIL,
SNACKY and more were still active. But since the legendary
crackers left, I do not have much competition anymore, it is a
shame. But still I do not want to call myself the number 1.
Still I love the success I am having.

[D] You should enjoy it while it is there, especially because
you have deserved it in a honest way. Obviously the voters
must like you, as you have climbed into the top 3 in most mags,
actually you figure as the # 1 in most of the magazines today.
Do you think todays magazine charts tell the truth of who is
the best cracker at the present time?

[B] That is a tricky one. I should say yes, as I am in there,
but still I say no, as 50% of the guys who are in the top 10 do
not know what cracking is about. Everyone should vote for
skill, not for popularity. For example, BOD cannot crack, he
was a good supplier, but not a top cracker. Just like DERBY-
SHIRE RAM and XXX. And why someone like CROSSFIRE is in the
top 10 is a total mystery to me. There are still enough crac-
kers left who should be in there like ROCKSTAR, CHRYSAGON,
MICRON, TSS and more. Still half the crackers in there, are
indeed capable of great cracking (e.g.POWERPLANT).
[D] I guess some of your points may be right. SUCCESS is a
very old group, and it certainly has the history to back up its
current success. Do you think it is difficult maintaining a
standard such as the one SUCCESS has, or is it just a matter
of taking it easy?

[B] Well, getting the current SUCCESS-standard was harder
then maintaining it. Once you are up there, you can take it
easy. People react slow on changes in the scene, so a slow
month does not have great effect on our standard. But the
main thing is that we always keep on doing our thing.

[D] It is also very important to the scene, that the big groups
keep on doing their thing, otherwise the scene would surely
die (the illegal one anyway). A short while ago you promoted
your soon to be released- FEVER magazine. I still have not
seen it out, when will it be out, and what can we expect of it?

[B] I like to straighten something here. It will not be 'my'
magazine. THE SILVER SURFER will be the main editor, and I
will just do a few chapters. For example the board-scene
chapter, where I will try to get secret background information.
FEVER will have its own style, whick will be serious competi-
tion for THE PULSE MAGAZINE and PROPAGANDA. When it is
gonna be released is not sure yet, but we are working on it!

[D] We are all looking forward to it, and we could sure do with
some more competition, heh. You have been calling the American
boards for quite some time now. What does it do for you?

[B] It is fun to keep track of the scene day by day, and I like
the direct confrontation of it. Still I had to slow it down, as
I have not got my own phone-line yet. But when that happens,
beware!

[D] Uhh, we will. How important do you find the American scene
to be for SUCCESS nowadays?

[B] I find it important concerning first-releases, but the US-
scene is slowing down a lot. Only few fixers are left, and
suffer under code problems. A game nowadays rarely gets fix-
ed. It is a pitty. Still the US-scene is where the elite hangs
out, and it is still important for every top cracking group!

[D] It sure is, more than one would think I would say. How does
the lack of games influence the main SUCCESS member today?

[B] Well, it means I got more time for my study, and I do not
have to rush to get every original I get cracked. Still the
scene would be more fun with more games.

[D] Yeah, that cannot be discussed - more games please. Is
there a chance we might get to see SUCCESS moving towards
new areas, such as the demo-scene maybe?

[B] You should ask the German SUCCESS members about that.
A demo has been planned for a few years, but it never got
finished. And I am not gonna do demos anymore. The current
demo-coders are far better then I am anyway, and it takes too
much time.

[D] A lot of people have stopped their activities to start a
new on the PC. Are you planning to stay with the 64, or have
you made any plans to start on the PC sometime in the future?

[B] I am already staring my work on PC, as I am learning new
languages. But I have not started with illegal activities yet.
I will stay on 64 forever!

[D] Great news ENNO! You have always proven yourself to be
a very voter-friendly group, and it seems quite easy getting in
touch with a SUCCESS trader these days. Is it a united goal
in SUCCESS, to spread all your productions as wide as possi-
ble?

[B] Yes it is. It is one of the main reasons of our success. We
got many mail-traders (NSD, MOREN, GUZZLER, TSS, SHOC-
KER, HI-LITE, B-WYZE) so everything gets spread real well.
And that is probably why we are doing well in the charts. Still
it is not my kind of thing, but the other members are doing a
great job with it!

[D] A bit of compliments for the swappers in SUCCESS there!
SUCCESS is a very world-wide group, what is the official
memberstatus of the group as of today?

[B] I will start with myself (hehehe):
BURGLAR       : Organizing, Cracking, Modem-trading
NIGHTSHADE    : Organizing,Mail-trading, Originals
MOREN         : Modem/Mail-trading, H/P, Originals, Crack
ARROGANCE     : Organizing, Modem-Trading, Cracking
SILVER SURFER : Cracking, Modem-Trading, Mail-Trading
MICRON        : Cracking, Utilities
GUZZLER       : Sysop, Mail-Trading
HI-LITE       : GFX, Modem, Mail-Trade
MISTRI        : Originals
DANNIE        : Originals, Crack
MR.DISK       : Originals
SHOCKER       : Mail-Trading
RAZE          : Modem
B-WYZE        : GFX, Mail-Trading

[D] It is a long list, but it sure includes a lot of great mem-
bers. Tell me, what is the joint future plan of SUCCESS then?

[B] Well, doing a good job on FEVER, and breaking through on
the UK market. For the rest, we have achieved what our goals
were. And I am pretty satisfied with it, but we can always get
better!

[D] That is a good attitude! We are moving towards the end of
this interview. Would you like to put down some personal
greetings before we end this one?

[B] The hardest question, I hope I do not forget anyone:
everybody in SUCCESS, RUG RAT, CHAMELEON, MOLOCH,
MUTANT-X, SWAN SONG, ALCHEMIST, EVS, ZALDRON, MO,
HOK, ARTIX, MARTIJN SCHUTTEN, MAELSTROM, BREAKER,
ATMOS, GAZER, DANIEL, EQUINOX, EXTREMIST, VIZZ, RICH,
INTRUDER, BOOZE, everybody who was in POWERS OF PAIN,
TLB, and I guess that should be it.

[D] Okay, thanks for the interview. We better end here!

[B] Thank you, it was a pleasure, although I should have stu-
died.. heheh...64 forever!
+ THE NEW YEARS PROFILE - ACTION JACKSON +
    _______________________________________
We have another exciting guest for you this month. The person
that we are about to meet, has reached fame through his great
magazine FRONTPAGE, that achieved respect from all over the
world.

But FRONTPAGE is not the only thing he has done for the
scene through time, he is also the leader of the scene-giant
THE RULING COMPANY, which has succeeded in becoming one
of the most respected demo- and cracking groups around. That
surely makes TRC unique in their field, and they are without
question an important asset to today's scene. We proudly pre-
sent, ACTION JACKSON of THE RULING COMPANY!
[D] Welcome MARCEL. People probably know you best as the
editor of FRONTPAGE, so lets start by breaking the ice, and
enlighten the readers about the person behind ACTION JACK-
SON!

[AJ] You could be right DUKE, it is a long time ago that I last
put out FRONTPAGE. Should there come one at X-mas? Santa
knows the answer! My real name is MARCEL, most people know
that too, and I am in the scene since 1982. Very long indeed,
that is why I thought about quiting this year. Its all been too
long, and I am getting grey hairs like DERBYSHIRE RAM when I
do not look out. I am at the moment 24 years old. I have played
soccer for the past 18 years now, only the last 3 years I got
injured too much. Right now I have got trouble with my knee.
Further I work fulltime as bookkeeper at the HAGUE POLY-
TECHNIC. Much more to come later in this interview.

[D] Yes, I hope so. I know that you are not only doing FRONT-
PAGE, you are also a steady swapper for a long time. What
other areas are you currently active on?

[AJ] Right DUKE, I started swapping a very long time ago,
around 1985 or so, when you had groups like : BYTERAPERS,
DRIVE, SPHINX, PULSAR, DCS, BROWBEAT, FBI CREW (now
CHROMANCE), FALCON, CONTEX, RTI, ATG and many more.
Since that time I was very active and had around 200 contacts.
At the moment I guess I have got around 50. This is due to they
stopped, not I. Further I am active on supplying 1st releases
for TRC, and keep TRC alive together with CBA/TRC!

[D] Wow, that is quite a long time to be active in. So I guess
you have experienced the scene in all its glory and downfalls.
FRONTPAGE has quite a number of editions on its back. But it
is not seen on a regular basis anymore. Why is that?

[AJ] That is because it just got too much of my time right now.
If you work 5 days a week, 2 days training soccer, 1 day a
match, another practise tennis, and I still have a girlfriend
to satisfy, then you get my point. But I did around 27 of them
at the moment, which is quite a lot for a magazine. Who else
can say he did 24 issues, not much I guess. FRONTPAGE takes
around a week time to complete an issue, because I am just not
the guy typing it the whole day!

[D] But you seem to have managed. With the 27 issues, I guess
it is the most released magazine ever for the 64. But it is of
course not the amount, but the quality of every edition. Did
you ever think about expanding FRONTPAGE and maybe putting
in some chapters, and begin to release it on a monthly basis?

[AJ] Yes, I thought about it 2 years ago. FRONTPAGE as a
complete magazine with chapters on a 2 monthly basis. As I
cannot help that either TRAX/TRC or CASE/TRC is so lazy to
code it, I have to wait, and with me you all. So keep shouting
at TRAX for that, thanx!

[D] Sounds like there is a possibility that we do get to see a
different FRONTPAGE in the future, great. TRC is a very flex-
ible group. You are active in both the cracking, demo and the
modem-scene, with crackers, coders, musicians, graphicians
and swappers. What does it take to keep such a large group
going?

[AJ] It takes my complete attention. Every mutation in TRC
goes to my direction first, so WE all know what is going on in
TRC. At the moment, we are not so active in the demo-scene
anymore, maybe it will come again when DEFBEAT and REBEL-
MC will be reactivated.

[D] So let us cross out fingers for a new demo from TRC in the
near future. Anyway, you are also into football, therefore I
want to ask you- do you find any similarities to the structure
of the clubs in pro-football, and the groups in the scene?

[AJ] In HOLLAND, sure. You got 2 divisions where 18 play.
Sometimes when I see them play in the 2nd division, I think I
could play there too, not that good football. But when I take a
look at AJAX (1 time touch) you need to be so technical and
perform every match, and have a scoring attitude as well. Btw,
in HOLLAND, almost all teams play 4-3-3 in the amature divi-
sion. If you look at ENGLAND, they learn to play 4-4-2. That
is a big difference with "attacking" HOLLAND! Enough about
soccer, because CBA/TRC hates it, haha!!

[D] Shame on him, football rules beyond any other sport. But
some people never learn, huh. Lately TRC lost a lot of members
to ATLANTIS. At the time, it looked as if TRC was getting
ready for a downfall. But it seems as if you have pushed that
behind you, and TRC still looks the same. What is the secret
for this?

[AJ] I only cared about the loss of JACK ALIEN, because he is
a real good and fast cracker. He did much for TRC, and I wish
him the best in '94 in AVANTGARDE (where he is now). DR.DISK
left too with RENEGADE (he was cool too). Lately IRONCAT
joined AVANTGARDE and that is all what happened in TRC. The
secret about keeping TRC up, is that most of the work in TRC
comes from me and CBA in the cracking scene. When you do not
have originals, you cannot do shit at all, as I still supply,
TRC is alive. Do not think that TRC survives when I quit!

[D] Well, hopefully you will stick around to add some extra
years to your already long appearance in the scene. As men-
tioned before, you are a very flexible person in TRC. What
part of your many activities for TRC do you enjoy the most,
and which one do you hate the most, if any?

[AJ] I still like doing FRONTPAGE. When it's finished I am glad
because I don't have to do a new issue for a couple of months,
haha! The most thing I hate in TRC? I guess when people leave
us without letting me know personally!

[D] Yeah, that can really make one mad. Anyway, you haven't
always been a member of TRC, so please give us a resume of
your career in the scene, up to now!

[AJ] I started with CHOQ (my name was SCP, SOCCERCHAMP),
group called the FSS CREW in '84. A few years later we joined
THE SPENCH. End of '88 or '89 I joined THE RULING COMPANY.
All old members quitted at the moment, I am the only old TRC-
member!

[D] They come and they go. Everyone that knows anything
about you, knows that you are quite a heavy VHS-trader.
when did this hobby begin, and is it not a very expensive
hobby, when it comes it always trying to get the latest movies?
[AJ] VHS-trading is one of my favourites! It started in '91
when I had a good friend living in Belgium, SHADOW of LEGEND.
I got about 20 new films from him, and started trading around
Europe. In '93 I, REAPER and LOVERBOY (ex.MANOWAR)
founded DREAMLINE STUDIOS. Maybe you've seen it once in
your illegal copy. Other friends I swap VHS with are : WOLF/
VISION, JUSTICE/ex.IKARI, KARATE KID/ex.DOM, LEGEND on
AMIGA, SKATER and some more. If you want to trade VHS, send
a tape to: MARCEL GOEDHART - WERKHOVENSTRAAT 99 -
2546 VC DEN HAAG - HOLLAND! (Send 2 of your latest movies)!
Thanks DUKE for publishing this one.

[D] Hey, no problem MARCEL. You are 24, and you have a girl-
friend (PATRICIA). Tell me, how does PATRICIA feel about your
activities in the scene?

[AJ] PATRICIA does not care what I am doing on it at all, she
amuses herself and we go out every weekend (almost). I spend
enough time with her.

[D] Well, that is good. Do not want to get her jealous of the
computer or anything, heh. You also have an AMIGA and a
GAMEGEAR. Are you into another scene, or is it the 64 exclu-
sively?

[AJ] AMIGA is just for playing Sensible Soccer, this game is
so cool, I don't play anything else on it. GAMEGEAR is good
for vacation. I got a TV on it too, but its very priceable.
[D] Yes, the AMIGA is only for playing. Be sure to check out
that new soccer game called GOAL, or something like that. It
is just as good as SENSIBLE SOCCER! What are the future
plans of TRC? Might there be a new demo in the making from
TRC then?

[AJ] A demo from TRC, perhaps, but you know TRC is not in
that record shit and so, we only release demos to show our
ideas and graphics. So that will come in 1994 for sure.

[D] A bit of something to look forward to then. Okay, this is
where it all ends. Do you have anyone in particular you would
like to say hello to?

[AJ] Hmm, I got so many friends I would not like to forget one.
What I did is, send my best friends in the scene a X-mas card,
so you know if you belong to that group. For the rest of you :
Merry X-mas, and a happy 1994!

[D] Yes, thanks for the nice Christmas card MARCEL. Alright,
you are obviously a very busy guy with the 64, PATRICIA, ten-
nis, football, work, etc. I thank you for taking the time to do
this interview for THE PULSE MAGAZINE!

[AJ] You too DUKE, I don't even know where you find the time
to release THE PULSE every month. A major job for the scene,
as it's one of the coolest mags around.

Pixels

Be heartly welcomed to the first edition of PIXELS.

As this is the dawning of this chapter, it will be in its place
to tell you a little about the editor of this chapter;

My name is SUN DANCER, and I'm one of those described as an
artist. Before joining the REGINA crew, I have been a member
of infamous groups like THE FORCE, SYSTEM and L.C.P.

But now I'm working in full effect for the REGINA and for THE
PULSE MAGAZINE labels..

As it is THE PARTY '93 time, this will be a special party edi-
tion featuring everything under the SUN (tm) ....
This "Hey-it's-Party-time-and-I'm-fucking-drunk" chapter,
will include interviews with cool graphicians, statements from
known and unknown artists, and of course graphical reviews!

First of all, this text was written at THE PARTY '93 - held in
HERNING/DENMARK. The editor takes no responsiblity for
bad text, spelling errors or the statements that may offend
certain little people and untalented majesties ..

Second, a respected member of a very TALENTed group have
mentioned something about the charset you are currently
focusing on. As an extra service to our critics, SUN DANCER
has made an entire disk filled with charsets, which can be
purchased at the REGINA stand, at THE PARTY '93.
Third, let's get going. Ladies and gentlemen - The very last
reviews in the year of 1993 ...

FLOWER 4 - produced by SMD.
SMD (Short for Stiff - Mercy Designs) have made another cool
FLOWER slide. This one includes some of the first fullscreen
pictures they have made, and naturally the pictures are not
as pretty as their logo graphics!
- However, FLOWER 4 is worth watching.. SMD is capable of
making logos, with both style and quality. And with the talents
SMD have for making Pixels, it's just a matter of time before
their pictures will have the same standard as the rest of the
graphics SMD produces. Later you will read more about SMD,
be sure not to miss it!
I liked FLOWER 4, and I look forward to the next SMD slide.

Graphical rating for FLOWER: 62% out of 100%
                                                    ___________

PORTFOLIO produced by DANE of TRIAD.
This is the PORTFOLIO by DANE, and it's with no doubt one of
the best this year. DANE is a highly qualified graphician, and
is in my oppinion one of the best left on the 6510. The picture
in this slide proves it, by far.
Get a hold on the new (!) PORTFOLIO - it's really worth it.
DANE and M of the TRIAD syndicate proves TRIAD's ratings in
the graphical charts, are well deserved - and not just some-
thing attached to the TRIAD name. COOL!
PORTFOLIO is one of the finest slides, released this year..!
If I should find something to slag on with PORTFOLIO, it should
be the proportions. One of the pictures, showing a pretty babe
with a mega-monster hand, kindda got me laughing!

Graphical rating for PORTFOLIO: 88% out of 100%
                                  ____________

Pictures - done by COP of FACES.
COP once wrote a letter complaining about a statement I, SUN
DANCER, wrote about the Eastern scene being behind the
Western. I still believe that I - in general - am right...
The Eastern scene do NOT have the same high overall in their
productions, as the Western sceners do..
And these pictures indicate that there are something about it!
Well, pictures is perhaps not the right word for this mess, but
logos aren't either. In my oppinion this graphical-thingy shoul
have been locked away.
With some work I'm sure you'll improve COP - till then ...

Graphical rating for the mess: 18% out of 100%
                         ____________

CRONOS GFX-COLLECTION from CRONOS.
Another Eastern guy, and as most other picture graphicians,
CRONOS is rather inspired by LES EDWARDS - one of worlds
greatest paintbrush graphicians.. Surely he is cool, but why
not find some new source for inspiration?
Think about the following: Sigh. I really like LES, but it's
frustrating to see noting but LES EDWARDS. Think about new
inspirations for your pictures people, it would help.
About this collection; Not much to be said, it's cool! Not any-
thing remarkable, but CRONOS surely know what he is doing.

Graphical rating for CRONOS GFX-COLL.: 70% out of 100%
                                ____________

That is it - the official released slides that was sent to the
staff of THE PULSE MAGAZINE has been reviewed. Later on
you'll get reviews on the competing graphics at The PARTY!
-As I see alot of talented artists around here, I guess I'll ge
plenty of writing to do.. Great, just what I need!
Now, as promised.. Interviews and Statements!

We caught up with chart-risers SMD, in their apartment in
Norresundby. MERCY (Good looking female!) was painting, and
STIFF (Good looking male - Hey! What is this?!) was playing wit
LEGO. "LEGO? But, I thought STIFF was 20 years old!??" you
might ask.. STIFF is a very mature guy, and was of course
very humiliated by the reveal of this news. And eventhough
STIFF made many threats to my health, I have an obligation to
inform the public about this fact!

(I had an interview with SMD somewhere, but it's gone.) ...

To make up the loss of SMD's words of wisdom, we have made
something very special - just to please our growing number of
readers;
   ..[A]=SUN DANCER (Asker) - [S]=STIFF (Interviewed)..
  _________________________________________
[A] Hey STIFF, have you ever had a 2 question interview?
[S] No.
[A] Now that it is over, how do you feel?
[S] Well, the first question confused me a little, but i felt
really on top with the second.

Thanks to STIFF for the interview, and thanks to MERCY for
lending me STIFF ...

Now a statement from VIC of CAMELOT: Drink HASH-THE!
Yeah right! Thanks alot VIC! The graphical talent VIC, is
currently going thru massive mind changes..
(He has now decided to call himself MINDMOVER - sigh!)

And now, an interview with the graphician that got the highest
review-rating this year: DANE of TRIAD...!

[S] = SUN DANCER (Interviewer)
[D] = DANE/TRIAD (Victim)

[S] OK, DANE. I'll never get any peace, before I throw this
interview with you! So give us your real name(HA!), your
age and your mothers fathers sisters name or anything
else you might feel like saying..
[D] Okey SUN DISCO(HA!!), my real name is in PORTFOLIO
(local TRIAD dealer), my age is inevitable and I don't reall
think you want to hear my mothers fathers sisters name!

[S] What groups have you been a member of, and what group
   did you like best?

[D] In order of appearance..? AKROYD 2/10, UNITY 2/10
                          TWILIGHT 8/10, TRIAD 11/10 ..

[S] I predict that it will only be a matter of time, before you
top the charts. But how do you feel about the graphical
sector in the scene today? Do you meet qualified compe-
tition or are there too many wanna-bee's?
[D] Me, in the top? Hmm, maybe? The graphical sector of today
is extremely developed. I mean with all these REAL talents.
Qualified competiton - of course, just look at this GFX-
   compo!

[S] What is good graphics and what is bad?

[D] Good graphics is something you stand for when you are
done with it, and something you are proud of! Bad gfx are
mostly done by people who shouldn't be doing it.

[S] Name some of the graphicians you have most respect for..

[D] I dunno, but my favs must be.. HEIN, DRAGON and OGAMI!
[D] (Continued..)
But creepers' okay too, but I feel more equal to him.

[S] The C64 is going downhill - no one can deny it! (In Denmar
they aren't even selling them anymore!) Are you planning a
career on another machine? Why/Why not?

[D] I'm planning to start on Amiga later on, and there are idea
about SNES gamemaking 2. But I'll never leave the C64.

[S] So far The PARTY '93, have been nothing but great! And
now the CULT C64 show is finnished. Do you miss the old
days, or do you prefer the scene as it is today?

[D] I think the scene is good as it is now, but my personal wis
would have been an active BML-crew. As I wasn't in the
scene untill 2 years ago, I can't miss.. Can I?

[S] If you, in 7 words, should describe yourself, what would
   it be..?

[D] Workaholic, Shattiered, Artist, DANKO's # 1 fan (one word)
   Triadic, Busy and Flexible.

[S] You'll get one chance.. If you answer correctly the inter-
   will be released, if you answer it wrong you can forget it;
What is the best diskmag in the scene today?
(Hint: It covers everything, from cracking to demo-making!)
[D] ARISE! (...And that PULSE crap..)

[S] Okay, that got rather pathetic! Sorry. This is no interview
chapter, so I'll cut it here. But do you have some last
   Advise/Message/Wish for our (Many?) readers?

[D] Never stop waiting for my PORTFOLIO's, more is yet to
come. Life is certain, DANE is not.
                                 -AU REVOIR... DANE!

.. Okay, thanks pal!
Please note, that you also could be among the chosen ones,
and get interviewed to the PULSE graphical chapter..!
Okay, on the following pages you'll party reviews.

All graphics to be reviewed was participating at the C64/GFX
competition, here at The PARTY '93. As the reviews were
done before the competition, I really dunno who won anything.

But the graphics were cool, no doubt about that.

With me now, I have STREET TUFF of TRSI. He'll perform moral
and alot of other support. People are sitting all around me,
and especially TRSI are gonna get hangovers tomorrow!

Cool.. So on the next pages you'll find it! Go on, don't delay.

As the contribrutions to the GFX-compo were many, it would be
a waste of time, to review it all!

The ones that were greatest, prettiest, best designed or
simply bribed me, will be reviewed here..!

Let's start with the blow;
HEIN HOLT - also known as HEIN DESIGN of BLACKMAIL did
contribute for the competition! And as usual his pictures were
able to show some Amigas, that the C64 can do very cool gfx.
- This pictures showed a man, with half his chest eaten by a
hideous monster. Cool. RATING: 93 %

Next picture on line was made by the chart-ruler himself, of
ELECTRIC of EXTEND. His picture was most of all leading my
thoughts to some CYBER-SPACE thing. Picture was great,
cool outline and really groovy color handling. RATING: 78%

MIRAGE - former graphician on The SHOCK legend, also had
some goodies in the bag. With a very artistic picture he showed
us the classical, BEAUTY and BEAST thing. RATING: 83%

HI-LITE of SUCCES also did some brilliant pixel manipulation.
Together with DEEKEY of CREST he managed to mark his name,
with his picture. However, not as cool as the others, but
worth mentioning. (Which has just been done!)

CREEPER of ANTIC (Among others!) also did a nice job..
With a picture of a cherry droping into some water, he showed
the rest of the scene, that you actually can do pictures with-
out the usual DRAGON - GIRL consept! So cool! Apart from
being highly original, the picture was performed with utterly
coolness and style. RATING: 89%

Also the C64 PARTY arrangers, had something to prove to
both us and themselves. And they did an exellent job! With a
cool cool picture by ROB of CAMELOT, they did their best to
show an active CAMELOT. The picture, showing us the usual
MONSTER - GIRL thing, was performed with a talent I didn't
know ROB had. RATING: 86%

MYSTICAL of ARISE, did it too. With a picture of an interlaced
face, he proved to be tough enough for a PIXELS-review!
(High standard, or what?) RATING: 74%

THE LEADER of BSAP is convinced that he will win the entire
competition with his interlaced picture, showing us a smiley.
(Smiley=Smiling face!) Time will reveal if his hopes will come,
but untill then: GOOD LUCK with it, LEADER!
(Don't worry, you won't get a rating!)

And the best of them all, comes last..!
SANDER of FOCUS again proved what he has proven before:
When it comes to pictures, he is FANTASTIC! So, I hope to see
more cool graphics from yo soon, SANDER. RATING: 96%

COOL!

BTW, greets to STREET TUFF, for his techno, and for
his ability to spread good mood. Also thanks to JASON of
EPIC for being such a pain in the as* .

And last all thanks to the people responsible for this PARTY,
the cool "low" food-prices and for really doing an effort to
make it all go around.

Don't be a dope - get high on TEKKNO!

-SUN DANCER for THE PULSE MAGAZINE!

very close at the top, with only 2 points separating the two
top groups.

* TRIAD is moving in on the top, but there is still a long way
to go. FLASH INC. moves down 3 places, and CAMELOT got a
lot of votes, and climbed 4 places since last time.

* VISUAL REALITY got a shocking 17 points from the voters,
but it may take a new demo to hold on to the position.

* TOPAZ BEERLINE did not get enough votes, and so they
dropped out, after a fairly long stay in the top 10. TABOO left
together with them, after only one stay in the charts.

* TTS is back at the # 1 position again, after CROSSBOW had
it last month on loan. Just like in the demo charts, OXYRON
and CREST are fighting for the top position. But if we should
look upon the activity of both groups, CREST should not even
be in the top 10.

* TRON is moving up, while GLASNOST is a none mover. Other-
wise the charts seems fairly stabile, not too many new entries
in the top 10 every month, and the voters seems to be keen on
voting for the same old dudes.

* KING FISHER was new entry last month, but he could not cope
with the competition, so instead MMS of TABOO takes his spot.
Still, most of the coders here are quite unactive. Shameful!

front of OGAMI. Hopefully both of these wizards will release
something soon, to match their many votes.

* The top seems pretty stabile, not many changes like most of
the charts these days. Commenting charts has really become a
bore, hopefully the voters will spot some new talents soon, and
give them the votes instead of the old unactive one's.

away for a very long time, so has REYN OUWEHAND and DEEK
for that matter. DOS quit the scene last month. 5 musicians
who are nolonger in the scene, is still to be seen in the top
10. That is VERY shocking!

* MOON/FLASH INC, TDM/TRIAD and ZYRON/ANTIC is pushed

the chart, his latest music is simply great!
OVERALL COMMENT from the editor.. [Legal charts]

General opinion that comes to mind when looking through the
overall charts, is a total domination in general by unactive
sceners. It was the same problem last month, but don't get me
wrong, I do not expect the charts to change all that fast. But
it remains my duty to point it out to the voters, and shout for
more engagement from the voters when they put down their
favourites on the vote-sheets..

But now with the CAMELOT party, a lot of new demos will be
released. Hopefully then the voters will pick out some new, and
more deserving favourites. Then perhaps we can get rid of the
oldies, that has done nothing for the scene in ages..

   10 (-) ALPHA FLIGHT 6
* The top 4 remains unchanged for now 3 months in a row. Once
again SUCCESS the # 1 in the voters opinion, even though they
haven't been releasing too many 1st-releases lately. But as
far as the voters opinion goes, it does not seem to bother
them at all. Another reason why SUCCESS got so many votes,
is the tremendous amount of work their swappers did, and they
made sure that everybody had a copy of the SUCCESS wares.

* ILLUSION still at # 2. VERY unfair for those that DO release!
RED SECTOR INC still waiting to push ILLUSION off the second
place, but the # 1 spot seems impossible to reach right now.

* ALPHA FLIGHT should be higher in the charts. Next time we
will perhaps be able to introduce the new AVANTGARDE!

# 1 spot.

* DOC left the 64-scene 2 months ago (after being unactive
for ages) and then the votes started raining in, and he advan-
ced to a third place. How lame, the third best cracker in the
scene according to the voters, is not even in the scene. I
guess it is true, that you get more famous once you are dead!?!

* JACK ALIEN entered the charts with ATLANTIS, but now he
is in AVANTGARDE though. BOD and CROSSFIRE moves down
the table, unfair for CROSSFIRE really. Where are the RSI
crackers, they should be here more than anyone!!
OVERALL COMMENT from the editor.. [Illegal charts]

What can I say? The charts are still in very bad shape. No
wonder people care less about them than in the past. But that
is one of the reasons why THE PULSE MAGAZINE started the
OVERALL CHARTS, to make it a sport once again to get in the
charts.

The cracking charts seems fair enough, due to the amount of
work the groups has put into spreading their cracks. But the
single crackers chart is (to put it frank) fucked up. I wonder
if the voters vote on the SKILL, or on the ACTIVITY. Either
way, they should not be mixed. Vote on the SKILLED ACTIVE
crackers, not on the UNACTIVE/ACTIVE QUANTITY crackers.

BIZARRE still the # 1 swapper in the scene. This concludes the
OVERALL CHARTS. We will be back in two months, with an up-
date, on how the charts are doing across the world.

Special assignment

+ SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT - BEHIND THE SCENES +
   _______________________________________
This month in SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT, we take you behind the
scenes of how THE PULSE MAGAZINE is made. We thought it
might interest most of you, since I have been asked a lot of
questions about it, during the CAMELOT party.

THE PULSE was first released once in 1990, at that time more
or less just another magazine with the normal chapters, with
the news and the vote-charts. But things change, so does the
people (thank god).

THE PULSE MAGAZINE returned in june 1993, this time with a
different goal though, to cover all the world happenings in
the 64-scene, and to be released on a monthly basis. Sofar we
have managed to live up to all those demands that we put our-
selves up to.

But enough about that, let us have a little look on how the
response of THE PULSE MAGAZINE has been!

When THE PULSE MAGAZINE returned to the scene in june, it
was not ment to be a magazine that would be able to compete
with the top information guides in the scene. But somehow it
turned into what it is today (more or less) in the space of
only two months. And that was the beginning of a (in the opi-
nion of many) news-giant, that helps the scene in its current
struggle to stay alive, by setting an example activity-wise.
During the existance of THE PULSE MAGAZINE, its popularity
has grown incredibly. This is partly because of it being month-
ly released. Another reason must be the originality our chap-
ters has.

Most of our chapters are new to the sceners, and that gives
an extra excitement to the magazines, something other more
regular mags cannot boast about.

We like to keep our outfit simple, and the fact that we use
proportional charset has nothing to do with SHOCK. Look at
REVEALED and ARISE among other magazines and demos. Small
and easy to read charsets are more favourable these days,
which is why we chose to go with it aswell. Also it allows more
text on every page at a time, which was the general reason.

Like I said previously, we have recieved a lot of positive
reactions from most of the sceners. We also had to listen to
a lot of negative words, that mostly from our enemies, or
people that were jealous of the attention we were drawing to
ourselves. Take JACK DANIELS, that seems to be of the idea
that THE PULSE MAGAZINE is a rip off of both SHOCK and
CORRUPTION. Why did he not just add SEX'N'CRIME, MAMBA
and HOTSHOT while he was at it? It is not objective criticism,
and I wonder how a former editor of a good magazine could pull
himself into saying that "THE PULSE sucks bad". Strange to
me, especially as he is an old friend of mine, whom I atleast
thought was a friend of mine. But that is the things you notice
once something you work with gets popular. But people either
hate something, or they love it. There is no middle-way, not
with something this size anyway!

But in the future, we at THE PULSE MAGAZINE would like for
all the people that DO have something against the magazine,
and perhaps its structure, to either give me (DUKE) a call,
or write to me your opinion(s). Then perhaps we can change it,
so that it would suit your satisfaction a little more.

Remember, we are making the magazine for the scene, not for
our own pleasure of writing text. Some people may not know,
but it really is a hard job doing a magazine, eventhough some
people talk about it as if it was the easiest thing on earth!
Write to the following address about your opinions towards
THE PULSE MAGAZINE as it is today (look apart from this
issue though, it was released under extreme circumstances.
