COVERCRUISE

hosted by Chaotic/Accept/Atlantis/N*P

Welcome dear Skyhighreaders to what I call my
personal coverchapter. Yes,I'm new here in this
staff, and from now on I'd like to supply you with all
the latest stuff about covers, such as reviews but
also happenings like for example covercompetitions
or stuff like that.
This time,I'll take a closer look at some covers
which reached my place lately.
Please keep in mind that we can expect some more
covers in the near future, because it's said that the
results of ELECTRIC's and DUCE's covercompetition
are out soon, after the deadline has been pushed
heavenly forward and we already expected the
results at the end of February.
Nevertheless,some artists have already released
their works for that competition to the public,so
that's why I'll review them in here now.

If you want to react on something printed in here,
please contact ME at

Okay, and now let's go with the reviews...

TURTLE + TAT-2 FLASH INC.
TURTLE + TAT-2 Cover for FLASH INC.
Done by JUNKIE/PALACE/DOOM PATROL
JUNKIR/PALACE/DOOM PATROL
for the DUCE+ELECRIC Cover Competition

FRONTSIDE:
FRONTSIDE:
The first impression I get while looking onto this
side is:"aggressive"! The viewer is confronted with
a mean-looking big turtle, which fills up the main
part of this side. A kind of smoke or fog surrounds
the turtle, consisting of skulls and plasma.
Above this scene you can spot a bold FLASH
INCORPORATED logo, which is partly covered with
this smoke and therefore partly gleaming through.
The logo was painted in clear, bold letters and
therefore isn't very special; though it looks quite
elegant in combination with the rest of the side.
Let's just say:It fits together.
Nothing more to say about this side, except of the
fact that the turtle is drawn very well and looks
quite realistic, especially the head/face is superb!

BACKSIDE:
BACKSIDE:
Looking at this side, you finally find out where
all this fog comes from: an elegant, flying
dragon spews it all over the cover! The dragon
is placed infront of an unknown symbol,
consisting out of arrows which form a circle.
The circle is surrounded by the popular plasma
which also forms a circle to underline this
impression. The other half of the side is filled
with a blond girl wearing a "Danzig"-top,being
tattooed with a strange symbol on her right
shoulder and wearing a suspicious expression on
her face. The girl's drawn also quite well, but in
my opinion it doesn't really fit to the style Junkie
used mostly on this cover. But it's only my
opinion.

ALLTOGETHER I'd say that this is a fine,
professional-looking cover. Junkie,ofcourse al-
ready known for his quality, again used the
popular "point-style",were most of the objects
used on the cover are build up out of small dots.
This really looks good, and Junkie prooved again
that he has experience with this style.
Considering the fact that this cover was drawn
1:1,I'd like to give it
7O PERCENT
7O PERCENT.

AWAITING THE WINTER FROST PANIC
AWAITING THE WINTER FROST cover for PANIC
Done by FX/DOOM PATROL/PALACE
FX/DOOM PATROL/PALACE
For the DUCE+ELECTRIC Cover Competition

FRONTSIDE:
FRONTSIDE:
We see a scene that could have been taken out of
a story like e.g. "Beauty and the Beast":
A weedy young girl is standing beside a huge
creature looking a bit like a crossing between
a bear and a gorilla,with a long bushy tail.
It is holding the right hand of the little girl, very
carefully. The couple is standing on a clearing,
surrounded by high trees. You see this scene from
behind,so you're not able to see the girl's face
the expression on it,so it's not clear if she likes
what happens or not. But if you look at the
posture of both "persons",you come to the
conclusion that the two are obviously happy to-
gether. The creature also looks a bit shy, bowed.

BACKSIDE:
BACKSIDE:
The upper part of this side is filled with a big
PANIC-Logo,built out of stylish characters that
aren't filled in any way. Only some light-
reflections at the edges were done. The logo-
area is divided by a frame and plasma from the
rest of the side.
The remaining 2/3 of the cover got filled with a
forest at nightime, you can spot a big dead branch
of a huge tree, and some neat treetops of tirs.
In the background, the sun is just going down.

ALTOGETHER I'd like to give 65 PERCENT to this
Cover. FX used the style 65 PERCENT he is
known for,a combination between point style and
realistic painting. The backside could have been
more detailed. But still a really good cover, worth
to be part of a good collection!

STOP FASCISM for METALVOTZE
STOP FASCISM METALVOTZE
Done by GREENHORN/TIGERCREW/METALVOTZE
GREENHORN/TIGERCREW/METALVOTZE
for the DUCE+ELECTRIC Cover Competition

FRONTSIDE:
FRONTSIDE:
The central area of the side is filled with the
known anti-nacism-symbol,a fist crushing a bold
swastica. The four corners of the side hold four
different expressions of a face:smiling,grumpy,
sticking its tongue out,crying.
If I remember right, this face looks a bit like
Greenhorn himself,at THE PARTY 1994. But well.,..
On the cover there's also the known slogan
STOP FASCISM,drawn in iron-style characters.
The average quality of this side is gets ruined by
the bad and inconsequently-drawn faces,sorry.

BACKSIDE:
BACKSIDE:
A METALVOTZE-Logo fills up the middle of
this side,surrounded by flames,plateaus and
other fill-ups. The METALVOTZE-logo looks
quite fine, built up out of elegant
characters and good-looking fill-ins.
The left and right part of this side is crow-
ded with a splitted vertical ANTINATIONALE-logo,
their mag. The characters look like if they've been
sprayed onto the surface,a nice effect.
Nevertheless, the side looks a bit "overcrowded",
there's no central for the viewer's eyes.

The remaining space outside the cover is filled
with different leftradical or punkorientated
stickers and slogans. Furthermore, you can spot
a METALVOTZE Contactaddress and a spreader's
list.

ALTOGETHER I donate 40 PERCENT to this cover.
Parts of the cover 4O PERCENT are quite
good,e.g. the Metalvotze-Logo or the fist on the
frontside, but the impression is being pulled down
by rather "poor" elements like the faces or the
too crowded style. But I think Greenhorn can
really improve,so let's see what we can await from
him in the future. By the way,the word VOTZE does
NOT mean a woman's vagina;that would be FOTZE.
A VOTZE is a bavarian expression for e.g. a beat by
a fist. A MetalVotze therefore means a very hard
hit, atleast that is what VOZ explains in the
second issue of their mag ANTINATIONALE.

CHAOTIC COUNTRY/THERAPY done for THERAPY
CHAOTIC COUNTRY/THERAPY THERAPY
Done by HODORY+IFKO/THERAPY
HODORY+IFKO/THERAPY
Done for the normal mailout-swap

FRONTSIDE:
FRONTSIDE:
A simple-styled balloon-Therapy logo,surrounded
by cloud-like circles. It's drawn very
unprofessional,without "love". Visible pencil-
shades and unprecise outlines.
Underneath the THY-Logo a "presents"-logo,
a bit better but still not good, bugs in the "E" and
"N" character. The rest of the charset is okay,
representing a chinese-styled characterset.
The logo is accompanied by ugly looking linechaos.

BACKSIDE:
BACKSIDE:
Here we have a picture of Fred Flintstone,
carrying his daughter on his arm. Well, what shall
I say ? The image was obviously drawn with
colourpencils, and that always guarantees a bad
reproduction. It just lookes "faded away".
Furthermore,a vertically drawn "Chaotic Country"
logo is placed in the right area of the side.
The artists tried to copy the "stone"-look of the
Flintstone-character-set,but somehow failed.
The chars don't have the right proportions, and
the stone-image isn't really visible.

I give this cover 15 PERCENT
15 PERCENT.
Hodory and Ifko need to improve their skills if
they plan to release qualitycovers.
In my eyes, this is one of those "Hey-I'll-do-a-
Cover-to-get-more-known"-Covers.
You as a receiver get it,look at it and say
"hmm,well.." and forget it. Sorry guys.

GENLOG done for GENLOG
GENLOG GENLOG
Done by FX/DOOM PATROL/PALACE
FX/DOOM PATROL/PALACE
Obviously done for the the normal mail-out.

FRONTSIDE:
FRONTSIDE:
The viewer is confronted with a three-times-
splitted image,it's a short story:
On the first picture you can see the shadow of
a tombstone (cross) on a hill surrounded by dark
threes. Two hands reach out of the grave to
break free.
On the second picture there's a kind of ghoul (or
zombie,if you prefer),who's getting totally of the
above-mentioned grave. The moonlight is falling
onto this scene. Leaves are falling.
On the third image the creature finally got out of
the tomb, standing upright on the ground.
IT is hit by a stroke of lighning, its rot body
shaking all over. Obviously rain falls.
Above the short "comic" a well-styled GENLOG-
logo is placed. IT's underlayed with black rays.
The total impression of this side is really good
and gives a kind of "dark" feeling. Respect.

BACKSIDE:
BACKSIDE:
The Backside is filled by a huge four-poster bed.
On this bed,a deadly orgy takes place:
You can spot three female persons, partly naked.
One of them seems to be dead;she's scrawled with
blood, all over her body. Another woman is kneeling
on her, drinking her blood out of a goblet.
The other woman takes a break, her mouth is
scrawled with blood,it drips onto her breasts.
It looks like a satanic madness!
A wrought-iron-styled GENLOG logo stretches
in the upper part.

ALL IN ALL I can say that this is another master-
piece done by FX,continuing his row of quality-
covers. I think it's justified to donate
75 PERCENT to this cover. The style is very well,
75 PERCENT everything fits together.
FX managed it to create a very dark atmosphere.
Although it seemes to be a little older, you
should not miss this one. Great Work!

THERAPY done for THERAPY
THERAPY THERAPY
Done by TYRANT/THERAPY
TYRANT/THERAPY
Done for the normal mailout.

FRONTSIDE:
FRONTSIDE:
Well, this is another one of these covers were I
get headache from.
A small crazy-styled Therapy - logo is visible in
the upper right side. Underneath it I spot an eye,
not very complicated but okay. If you take a
very close look onto this side, you spot (hidden
in some chaos I can't define) the face of a
monster, the left eye is at the far left side of
the cover (where else..),the nose seemes to be
big,or is it the mouth ? Well.. The rest of the side
is filled with this undefined chaos of bubbles and
stuff like that. Looks like something from the
swamps,for example.

BACKSIDE:
BACKSIDE:
Again we see a lot of bubble-chaos and some
creature with a kind of tentactle,at least I think
that's what it's supposed to be! A small TYRANT-
logo is again the only thing left. Simple styled.

Can someone explain this cover to me please ?
I'll somehow give it 25 PERCENT,but I really
can't read anything 25 PERCENTout of this one!?
Man,you must have been stoned while painting this!

OKAY,
OKAY,now we will take a closer look at the final
