" IF YOU STAND for something,
you always find some people for you,
and some against you.
If you stand for nothing,
you will find nobody against you,
and nobody for you."
			- Bill Bernbach, DDB Needham.

Dear Readers...

Feel warmly welcome to the 10th issue of your favorite
magazine, the celebrate edition.

For the first time in the history, the magazine is deve-
loped in Gothenborg, the second biggest town in Sweden.
Why? It´s easy, I´ve started to educate myself at the
best school of advertising and marketing, namely RMI-
Bergs, therefor a new hometown and a new WHQ for the
magazine...

Two months have passed since the last time, the inter-
rest for this edition has been huge! Never have so many
people sent their positive feelings and reactions about our
work. Thanks to all, you´re the one keeping the magazine
alive and kicking!

Since I took over the leadership, the magazine has turned
into one of strongest and most read in the scene, the
blocks of text have increased in each issue, now over
800, and next time it´ll be even more! If you read the pro-
verb above, then you´ll find our main concept in the
creation of the magazine. If you don´t understand then
think twice, boy!

Hello to all in the Reformation staff! The quality of the text
is improved in every issue and it´s nice to read inter-
resting and well written mags! (like only a few like The
Pulse and SkyHigh are).

Continue this way,

ess, I think! /Enduro

Reformation is cool. I think that it´s one of the best mag
on the C-64 scene (Charts are very objective etc.) Unfort-
unately, I must ascertain that Trooper never should be in
ATL...

Thanks for the correction, but the news about Trooper
came from Trooper himself, strange?! /Enduro

As I (Enduro) moved to Gothenburg, the HQ has changed
location from now on,find the address in the first chapter.

Also a new HQ on the boards for the magazine is
founded, on the Illusion of Reality. The sysop "Midnight
Mover" decided to pick it up again and it´s current a Triad

FOCUS (Holland)

HEIN HOLT ISN´T DEAD!

A lot of false rumours lately said that Hein left the scene
for PC, but that´s not true. Hein and Mirage are designing
new parts and graphics for the coming demo called;
Visual Delight 2, released sometime this year...

Sh0ck will return, but Mirage got into some problems so
the pure legal (as it´s said to be) return of the popular
magazine is once more postponed.

There are plans for a party, together with SCS+TRC,
for the next year. It´ll be held in Utrecht, Holland. More de-
tails will follow later this year.

NOICE (Sweden)

They are working hard with their party-contribution demo
called; Goatology. Peace/x-Oxyron joined the crew as a
musician and Ablaze returned once more to paint graphics
again. Sandman was kicked. Their fresh board called "Line

Just when the end was near their legendary Guide, Jerry
took himself together and decided to continue with the
magazine. A reorganization was made with the result of

Tranziee (left the active scene) and Owen who left for
Agony.

Introduction

Cowabonga! In issue nine the charts looked like an earth-
shake had hit´em, will the trend continue this time??

The points were collected from;

MOONLIGHT #08
NEWSPRESS #14
SKYHIGH #12
TRIBUNE #46

After having nine issues with almost the same planning,
it´s time to reform the idea a bit, like;

* The chart will be listed from 20 to 1 instead of the
  usual 1 - 20 system, this will higher the entertain-level I
  think...

* If a person in the group is on the ranktable, then the
figure will be printed like "Crossbow (10.rank)".

* The recent demo from the demo-groups and when it
was released will also be printed in the chart.

* The best place of the group so far and when is included
  in the chart.

* The Swapper-Chart is extended to a top 5.

* A January - October summary is listed, just to tell you
about the view of final spurt this year! Who´ll win?

* Some diddies and facts is written too, don´t miss´em!

All in all, this chapter is too big for being one parted
now, the chapter is splitted into;

*MegaCharts; The top 20 + summary.

*MegaCharts II; Individual Charts, SceneRanks, Year-
                summary + diddies!

 Don´t miss the second part!!

MEGACHART summary [charts]

FLASH INC. leaves the chart!

After being at the chart for one and a half year, (most
of the time at top 3), this swedish legend leaves the
chart! The group doesn´t even exist anymore!

Zodiac, Moon and RedStar do ONLY game coding and have
a company called Octabits. We in the staff say farewell
to this group and hope that the voters will vote on the
existing groups on the chart and make them famous as-
well...

Summary; Oxyron grabbed the number one spot again,
well desrved after their great XII in the Coma-
Light serie. But the top struggle will continue...

Only one newcomer this time, the reason is
that the chart is made just some months after
the last one and not like the one in the last
which was a five months chart!

The cracking scene is getting stronger again,
and it shows well on the chart, the top 3
crackergroups move all upwards and two of
           them enter the real top!

Near the chart were groups like TRSI+Dytec and
           Equinoxe, better luck next time!

Argh, we´re back and we´re mean like hell this time, coz
someone set fire on the house of Beavis, REVENGE!
Remember, don´t even think of sending some "jokes" to
us, we do NOT care about your simple tries to be funny,
get lost...

The Criminal Sceners!

Beavis was hacking around in the register of CIA, when
he found this list over the original inventors of some fa-
mous handles and the now excisting thiefs which tries to
become famous by stealing other peoples handles!

 -" I´ll guess we´ll have a re-name trend in the near
    future", says a concerned Beavis.

Never got tired of The Pulse Intro?

Black Widow (the leader of Gothic Designs and editor of
MoonLight) was very disappointed when she read the
magazine charts last month; MoonLight wasn´t near the
top , but Reformation was! So she come up with the idea
to get more votes; copy! Use the same tune, put in a
Creeper logo at the top and so on, she even called
Bacchus about renaming the magazine to FAIRlight, but he
said no way!

The result of this idea was actually that MoonLight got
more votes, but in the lamerchart!

The News of the Month:

-" Beyond Force is dead!", SkyHigh issue 12.

     Acidchild - Born in Tjernobyl?
Did you know how Jazzcat come to think of naming his
magazine to Domination? Well, he was a big fan of the
legendary cracking group called Dominators and reads
every issue of the Reformation too.

Dominators + Reformation = Domination

What does Crossfire/Motiv 8 think of this mag?

 - "Well, I only like the RE in Reformation, but it would be
even better if they wrote it twice!", says Crossfire.

Again, The Scene... [B & B]

At the house of Duke/Regina;

My Satirica chapter is the original! (Beavis comm. ; that
leaves his other eleven chapters to be copies...)

At the house of KBS/Regina;

Now I understand why Tabasco/FLT is much higher than
me in the swapper-charts; he spreads a better magazine!

Genesis Project call themselves; Europes # 1, but what
does the reality say?

# 0 by scoring points in the charts!

They are actually trying to recruit Count Zero/Talent to
their "not at all big mouthed" team...

Beavis again about the Satirica chapter;... or was it the
ordinary chapter, which leaves the eleven other chapters
to be satirica!

SEVEN is...

...the amount of years you´ll have to wait for Aslive´s
 next send!

...the amount of handles Crossfire/Motiv 8 have had
 through the years!

...the amount of voters for Tribune/Entropy!

...the I.Q of The Fresh Prince/Motiv 8!

...the age of SunDancer/x-Regina!

...the amount of seconds Surfer/Active can be with a girl

...the amount of bodyguards that Crossfire needs to pro-
 tect himself on a copy-party!

...the amount of times we´ve been promised a comeback
of the Sh0ck Magazine by Skater/Legend!

...the amount of weeks that you´ll have to wait for the
 next Oxyron demo!

...the amount of rooms Jerry/Triad has filled with discs
 containing C-64 games and demoes.

...the amount of boardcalls Jucke/Genesis makes every
 day!

...the number of words in a sending note from Gerwin!

...the number of groups Hunter has "rebuilt" the last
 months!

...the number of years Bacchus have been cracking!

...the number of sparetimes Tron/FLT has in the army!

...the amount of points Genesis Project has scored the
 last three years!

...the number of fullprice games released after 1992!

...the amount of notes Airwolf/Genesis put in his sends!

...the amount of voters which really understand why they
vote for Powerplant/Legend and Jeroen Tel/Phyzics!

...the amount of pages we can fill with this idea, but we
 won´t!

...Tron/FLT was earlier a member of Byterapers?

by Cosmo, the name of the group was taken from a
 BMX bikesadle called just Dominator!

...Camelot was born 1990?

...FairLight and Triad are 8 years old now!

...Sneaper/F4CG used to be called Strider some years ago,
(Beavis, hmm, wonder who´s the real Strider?)

you want a challenge, just enter the party this autumn.

in groups like Defcon 1 and SCCS/Fatboys!

Introduction

Well, we started this type of viewing the scene last time
for real, and this idea was more successful than we
thought it would be, big thanks to all who sended their
opinions about the four question we had.

This time we are even more prepared, on the frontpage
of the votesheet, you´ll be able to fill in your opinion on
each issue questionary, great or what? Don´t forget to
write down the issue you read the questions in, IM-

Opinion Poll Results [Enduro]

41 answers were sended to us concerning the last
opinion poll and the results were not that chocking this
time...

The Questions were:

1.Which mag is the most readable one?

Magazine/Group; Answers;( % )

Ingenious Brain/Equnioxe 12	29
The Pulse Magazine/Regina 9	22
SkyHigh/Oxyron 8	20
Reformation/FairLight 6	15
Revealed/Camelot 4	10
Nitro/Excess 1	2
Splash/Accuracy 1	2
Jamaica/Jam 0 -
Arise/Triad 0 -
					-----	--------
					41	100 %

The wellmade magazine Ingenious Brain was the voters
favorite, well deserved I think as the team put a lot of
work on their mag with pictures and everyting.

If you take a closer look, this table is very close to the
actual charts right now, maybe some changes will follow
soon, or?..

2.Which mag is the most original one?

Magazine/Group; Answers;( % )

Ingenious Brain/Equnioxe 13	32
Revealed/Camelot 12	29
Reformation/FairLight 7	17
The Pulse Magazine/Regina 6	15
SkyHigh/Oxyron 2	5
Nitro/Excess 1	2
Splash/Accuracy 0	-
Jamaica/Jam 0	-
Arise/Triad 0	-
					-----	--------
			 		41	100 %

Again the Equnioxe gang took the first spot, just one
more vote than the Revealedstaff. Fair results here, but is
Excess worthy any votes at all?

I´m sure this table would have changed some if three
alternatives were given instead of one too...

3.How many interviews/mag?

	More than four 4	10

One is more than enough, this is the result of this
question, 15 % thought that a magazine without an inter-
view was the alternative, puh, guess they´re tired of all
those interviews outthere, although, 10 % wants MORE
than four, must be SkyHigh fans or something...

4.What about the amount of mags?

STOP READING, this could be one of those "too many"
magazine, or? Well, not an unexpected result here, there
ARE too many magazines out there. Why?, it´s simple,
it´s easier to make a magazine than a good demo, right?

If you want the name of the guy who thought that there
were too few magazines, then just send a letter to us...

Reaction from Duke/Regina [Duke]

I am writing in regards to the opinion poll printed in the
9th edition of Reformation. You asked me to make an
official statement showing my opinion about the system
used. Here it is then;

In genereal i must say I like your idea of making a poll
that reflects the popularity of the chapters in the maga-
zines. But unfortunately you did not come up with a good
and fair system to give us a clear idea how the public
feels about the chapters. F.i, you complimented the news
section in The Pulse (news journal). I thank you for that,
but I am horrified in seeing how every other magazine
profit on our hard work to bring one of the most detailed
news chapters in the scene. This is why the system
doesn´t work. Take SkyHigh, don´t tell me their board cov-
erage is as good as the one from The Pulse (not that I
dislike SkyHigh or anything). No, I think not. I don´t mean to
be arrogant or selfsatisfied (people can think whatever
they want), but this is directly granting other magazines
points for our work - and that is far from fair.

To be able to reach a realistic and fair result, you would
need to make a huge poll sheet. In which everyone could
give points for the chapters they know about. They could
load the certain magazines. Read them through, and then
answer the poll. A result from a poll done in any other
way would be biased.

I salute your idea though, and I hope you are up for the
major challange of making your poll about magazine chap-
ters work in practice.

Well sceners, are we up for a big challange or shall we
leave the opinion about the chapters to the mystic
cavern?

Mags in the MegaChart [Bacchus]

I received a note from Nightshade/SCS+TRC who com-
plained that the mags made certain groups climb unjusti-
fiedly much on the MegaChart. I´d like to comment on
this. I´d like to point out that this reply may be a bit con-
troversial, so if ANYONE of read it and strongly disagree,
then write a reply for us to publish!

The MegaChart points out what group is the overall
strongest on the scene, hence the name. As in foe
Decathlon the main point is not to be extraordinary strong
in one or two events, but to lack weak sides. This is
when you can peek this list. If you take FairLight as an
example, we are presented on all the charts on very
competetive places. Sure we don´t top many, if any, but
we do it all very well! All demo, all crack or all mag
groups don´t stand a chance even if they are the ultimate
rulers in their own division. This is not what the Mega-
Chart is supposed to measure! If an all mag crew expects
to top the chart with this product alone, then they are
utterly stupid. They shall look in the mag chart and stay
there!

Mags are etablished facts on the scene that many
people read and enjoy. I think it´s only fair if they are jud-
ged and could base credits in the MegaChart!

This was not the fact in Norbert´s note, but some ideo-
logic back ground. The fact that he considered was that
the mags did impact the charts too strongly. For this I
guess you must look at it from the angle of comparing
effort, skill and manpower needed. If you take the diff-
erent ´disciplines´ they demand very different things from
a group. For this reason I´ll here discuss them one by
one;

Swapping;

This is a rather odd group, as it fits, and is needed, in
all of the below ones. I have a hard time accepting that
swapping is a skill to be judged as in the other personal
categories. To me, it takes no skill to copy disks and
send letters. Same goes for the ´skill´ it takes to transfer
files per modem. Anyone could do that after a five minute
lession in the work of a copyprogram or terminal pro-
gram! Sure it takes a lot of effort to keep it up, and it
takes a personal touch in the work to get the votes in
this category. No one votes for a megaswapper with five
zillions of contacts that sends you a yellow post-it note
saying "Here you get kewl wares from Mr.X of Y-crew.
L8er!". O.k, it´s to encourage their WORK with votes, as
long as it´s not mistaken for being some sort of SKILL! All
sceners I know of can copy disks. It´s just that they
don´t bother doing it in the bigger scale that is demanded
to call it swapping!

The work is awarded points in one category.

    Read the Bacchus-article in # 9?
Cracking;

This takes a cracker and a supplier and a few extras.
Anyone can do an intro for a cracking-group - Sure it
takes a special kind of coder to make something decent
and still short, but basically anyone could do an intro if
they know anything about assembler!

So in this case ONE person, the cracker, along with re-
placeable persons like the supplier, the swappers, and so
on, keeps it going. Only ONE person in the team is the
artist, and the irreplaceable one! (This might depend on if
you care about the 1st release charts in the states or
not. If you do, then add the fixer to the above list.

It takes a lot of regular work. The protection of today
are so weak that most anyone could fight for a top ten
spot with a major effect. The other ways that envolved
was shortest cracks and fastest cracks. The latter is
really mainly a competition of who has the fastest sup-
plier.

:):):)TURN THE PAGE!:):):)

Reformation (C) FairLight

Mags in the MegaChart [Bacchus]

This takes very limited skills. Anyone could send a letter
to a cracker saying "crack this" or "here you have the
original" and where people work for a living (i.e if they get
games on work!) is not much of a competition, is it? The
best cracking judged in an objective way, or at least as
objective as could be, is all in the Gamers Guide/Triad. If
you only care about the GG approach, then is ONLY the
cracker that counts, as the supplier can be one of the
swappers doing some swapp of originals as well as the
normal swapping.

For this, the skills and efforts of one person you get
credits in "cracking group" and "best cracker". So this
work is paid off in two categories.

  Disagree? Write a reaction, NOW!

Demos;

This is the hard stuff. Many people have to work to-
gether to make this smooth! The coder as the main-
character, but also a musician and graphician. Sometimes
you have someone special doing the design and not sel-
dom is there a cracker installing the fastloader, as lots of
coders don´t know about system routines.

This work is well paid off! The coders have one chart,
the musicians one and the graphicians one, as well as
there is one for demo groups. Four categories in all. One
shall remember that it´s not normally the case that you
score lots of points for your first demo. This is a slow
way to the top, but once you get there you tend to hang
in longer than you might deserve. Demos don´t come on
regular basis, so it´s hard to tell when a demogroup lost
speed, very different from the ease it is to see when a
crackinggroup is releasing or not.

Mags;

A good mag is also, as with cracking, a continous
effort, that shall result in bigger results on a decently
continous basis. The demands are some sort of mix be-
tween the demands on a demo and a cracking group. A
good mag takes very competent code for a decent outfit
and sometimes an editor to write the mag in along it. It
also takes some maintenance on it to keep up the stan-
dards. It takes music and graphics. As we have seen
musics and graphics is often sent in from outside the
group, as well as materials to the text from outside sour-
ces.

It takes fast actions and lots of connections with the
outside world to keep up the news (which IS the hardest
part to make good!)

        Reformation - Celebration!

It is a fact that there are as many mags as there are
decent cracking groups, and prehaps twice as many as
decent demogroups, so the competition is admittingly
hard. You get to work a lot to get a mix that suit the
readers, with acceptable over-all textstandard. It is, as
with demos, as stiff way to the top, as new mags have
a hard time establishing themselves. Often it´s not accep-
ted until the readers see the third or even fourth issue.

All this work is credited with points in ONE category. I
have seen no list with "best editor", "best outfit" or any-
thing like this. This work is only paid off in ONE category
only: the "best mag"! Would this be unfair in any way?

For this reason I simply cannot buy your opinion that
mag groups are unfairly credited in the charts for their
work!

Reply to Antic Saga (issue 9) [Tchad]

I was suprised when I first layed my eyes on the little
article in Reformation issue 9 called "Antic Saga". Especi-
ally when the author himself (Depeh/Antic Productions)
kept claiming that friendship rules and all his agressions
were gone.

I couldn´t interpet this article in any other way than an
attack against Jam and our friends. The shit talk about
Jam being a bunch o farmers is just a proof of Depeh´s
prejudices and ignorance (it must be hard to live up to
those big city ideals when you live in Sk0vde). Yes, we do
live in the country side but none of us (as far as I know)
is a farmer and even if we were, we shouldn´t be
ashamed of it. Why rag on us again when you claim that
you have dropped it? Is that friendship? Further more,
none of us lives in Lundsbrunn (ed. only FLT´ers lives
there, like Tabasco and Red Devil, but both are x-Jamers).

So, how about it Depeh? You´re responsable for this late
attack. You´re about to decide; friendship or not!

P.S We don´t judge people for their home town´s populat-
     ion!

This is the shorted version of the 60 blocks long note
Tchad wrote, the rest of the note is about the war be-
tween Jam and Antic three years ago...

Guess Depeh will respond this article in issue eleven!

LegendInterview: Cycleburner/MegaStyle

[Q] Watchman/FLT
[A] Cycleburner/MegaStyle
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Q] Hi and welcome to the "Hot Terminal" Mr Cycleburner!

[A] Thank U!My pleasure.

[Q] When did you start out, and when did you join your
    first group?

[A] I got my first computer in 1983,and in 1987 I joined the
    first real demo group.

[Q] What groups have you been in during the years?

[A] Groups I´ve been a member are The Black Knights,
which became Weird Science, and then I joined Contex
when Weird split up, and finally I joined Megastyle
    when Contex split up!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Q] How did you start on the scene?

[A] I joined "The Black Knights" after seeing their adress
in a demo. We then changed name a few times, be-
fore we and some famous group I can´t remember
the name of (The Flash Boys?,not quite, but something
like that) formed Weird Science 2662.(By the way, this
part of Weird formed later Tridom which was prehaps
rather unknown, but they were very good.

[Q] What aliases have you been using?

[A] In my first demos I used the name "NOP" (No Ordin-
ary Programmer), and when I joined Contex, I changed
    to Cycleburner.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Q] When did you start making demos, and when did you
start competing in demo competitions with them?

[A] I guess I started making demos 1987 or so, and I think
it was my second demo that won the first prize at a
party in Askim (I even beat Rawhead and Omega
Supreme wasn´t too happy about not winning...)

[Q] What is your most famous oroduction so far?

[A] The most successful demo I made in Weird Science,
was probably "Sign´o´the Times" (won in Askim).

But I guess I´m best known for,are the ones I made
in Contex. Everyone keeps saying "Look Sharp" was
so great, but I can´t understand why... Besides, it only
got a fifth palce at the party it was released.

I was more satisfied with "Youthquake", but it was
"only" third. "Top priority" is probably the one I put
most work into (and it has the most parts too.)

We could have done a lot of great work in MegaStyle,
but school took too much time for all of us. They act-
ually asked to join already when I was in Contex, but
I chose to stay in Contex. Who knows, maybe we
would done something even greater if I had joined
MegaStyle earlier. Rune "Sparkler" is an outstanding
artist, and I´m glad he´s doing the graphics for my
    game now.

LegendInterview: Cycleburner/MegaStyle

[Q] Watchman/FLT
[A] Cycleburner/MegaStyle
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Q] What is your coding philosopphy,i.e what do you find
    important?

[A] My"coding pilosophy" is that I don´t care much about
tricks that are hard to code. Design is everything. But
if you can incorporate some clever coding tricks into a
    great looking demo,then that´s ideal. Futhermore, I
don´t like effects that aren´t updated 50 times per
second (or 60 times per second on NTSC.)

[Q] Do you try to find a use for a new routine, or do you
make up the "story" first and then figure out which
    routines to use?

[A] In most of the demos I´ve made on the C64, I´ve
sampled some music, and then I´ve let the music in-
spire the rest of the demo. Sometimes I have made a
routine first but that´s not usual how I work. It tends
    to get boring that way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Q] Do you like just technial demos, or do you think that
people should work on more design?

[A] I hate technial demos, unless they contain something
amazing. The first demos with sprites on the border
were pretty shocking to me,although the design could
have been better. I´m amazed by effects that pre-
viously were thought of as impossible, but 4000 dots
or 500 scrollers is too boring.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Q] What are your tools of the trade?

[A] The assembler I use was infact made by my father!

[Q] What are your views on the different scenes? You
told us that you are working on a game for the
Amiga, is that your new turf?

[A] Yes,I´ll be working on my own game for Amiga for
some while, and if it turns out like I hope it will,I´ll con-
tinue making games for the Amiga too.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Q] Can you tell us about any weird experience you have
    had when attending a party?

[A] Now,about weird or funny things that have happened
at parties,I only seems to remember the bad parts,
like my power supply failing to work,my screen not
surviving the transport, prices being withdrawn or
cops cancelling the whole party! Maybe I´M just very
unlucky or maybe I´m suffering from amnesia...

But atleast I´ve had the pleasure of meeting a lot of
    interresting people at the parties!

[Q] Thanks for the chat, live long and prosper!

[A] And may the force be with you.

What is FTP? [Watchman]

FTP, or File Transfer Protocol is just like FSP a program
that lets the user transfer files easily around the net-
work. The big difference between FSP and FTP is that al-
most all servers on the net accepts FTP, that it uses a
much higher bandwidth and thus a higher transfer rate,
and that it (usually) is legal stuff that is beeing trans-
fered. The address given to the system is a name on a
server and several lists of such addresses are available
at most sites, foe the one we log into below, let´s go;

jota21;/u2/d91/jsn/ftp>ftp ftp.funet.fi
Comment; Here is the UNIX command that start our FTP
session with the FTP site "ftp.funet.fi".

Introduction

Oh yes... Finally we got an address chapter in Reformation
and we´re sorry that we didn´t have time to write this
chapter in issue nine. Don´t blame us if your address is
wrong, try to write readable next time!

If you look carefully on the addies you will soon find out
that alot of them are from Poland so what about a
separate chapter for Poland next time, eh??

Nothing more to add so i´m out of here...

other Tom Clancy bestseller. Phillip Noyce is the director
and in other roles we will meet Anne Archer, playing

presidents closest friends and a colombian drugcartell,

comes harder than expected and it shows to be difficult
to choose between friends and enemys! The presidents
secret way to stop the cartell has failed, and Jack Ryan
tries to find a solution to it and at the same time save
