It is fascinating, but Holland at
Easter has quickly become the most ob-
vious tradition for active sceners on
the C64. At the notorious X-parties,
we meet up in a cozy atmosphere, far
away from the institutional copyparties
in the late 8O's. Here's the story on
how F4CG, CENSOR and friends made the
       definate journey of 1996.

 S
So it was finally Easter. SIXX and I
headed downtown Gothenburg where we
would meet up with ALFATECH arriving
from his job in Oslo. It had been a long
time since ALFATECH visted EFFEQUATTRO-
VILLAGE but he still appeared to be
the sloppy, bearded animal he has always

been. We had a quick chat over a beer
to catch up with the latest happenings
before we decided to take a taxi back
to my apartment. BOB, TRANZIIE and MOT-
LEY arrived in their car from Stockholm
only an hour later. It did not take
long for the apartment to function as
the natural disaster-area it always is
when sceners meet up. BOB and MOTLEY got
comfortable in front of the 64, while
NEWSCOPY and ALFATECH grabbed a guitar
to do a serious set of ROB HUBBARD-
unplugged. I tell you, SIXX and TRANZIIE
really are everything you need to emu-
late the other channels of the SID prop-
erly. As time passed by, empty bottles
of red wine, cigarette-butts and cheap
champagne flooded the place, so we de-
cided to pick up the rest of the clan.
Unfortunately the rest of the EFFEQUAT-

TRO-SWEDEN-MAFIA were unable to attend
this year, so we had to do without GOZ,
DRAZ, WALKER, TC, ZYRON and DEVIL.

We picked up GEGGIN in a haze of alcho-
hol at a local bar he was hanging out
at, and still had enough room for both
JUCKE and KING FISHER. We were 9 wicked
sceners gathered in a car. A car where
farting would come to be a way of com-
municating with each other, and SID the
only music to be played from the speak-
ers. Just to think of the look on SOEDE-
SOFT'S or RED/JUDGES faces as 9 Swedish
morons are practically screaming the
melody to AIRWOLF and one of RED'S cla-
ssic slow songs at 3 o' clock in the
middle of the night, somewhere on Auto-
bahn. Scenetown is one bizarre place.
If only they knew.

We arrived in Holland at noon. JUCKE had
been lucky enough to choose the best se-
ats in the car, the ones way back. In
short, they had gotten a great portion
of sleep, while the ones in the front

had been stuck with BOB'S ongoing bla-
bla (and he with our inspiring theories)
all night through. Not that we really
know our way around in Amsterdam, but
we got ourselves a decent hotel and as
the first few buds were enjoyed, we
found ourselves spending time in our
room chatting about nothing. TRANZIIE
was trying to reach his fellows in HIT-
MEN over the cellular, but to be honest
he was not really good at it. Many gre-
asy pizza-slices (they are great!) later
and a grand tour of the always welcoming
Red Light District, we had agreed to
meet up with SOLAR in a coffeeshop.
More spliff, more beer and we were off
to COCO'S, a place were the rest of the
pre-party-X96-attendants were supposed
to hang out. Unfortunatley, they must
have feared our arrival, because when

we arrived, they had a left. Poor babies
had to go to bed, we thought and bought
ourselves some essential wares in the
bar. SOLAR somewhat failed to live up
to expectations as he burped in front
of several women, but ALFATECH did a
marvellous job charming a Dutch girl
called Ingrid (there, now she's part
of scenehistory). Even though it was
later rumoured Ingrid was a man, she
gave ALFATECH a ride home on her bike,
and after that a completely different
ride. As he was enjoying a shaved mir-
acle, the rest of us dazed into a deep,
deep sleep. X96 was only hours away.

W
While the big SID-bus headed directly to
Utrecht, SOLAR, NEWSCOPY and SIXX headed
to Belgium to pick up the familymember
SCORPIE. SOLAR is generally a fairly
safe driver, but has a few crashes noted

down on his record. Furthermore, he dri-
ves at a pace that kills, and the car
feels like a space-mobile. SIXX and I
tended to get nervous in the backseat,
so we had to pull over for beers and a
second spliff. That did the job.

From Belgium back to Holland was an
easy job. It is funny, but after all
the beers, the distance seemed much
smaller. So we arrived in Utrecht, and
it was a jolly good thing coming back
to the familiar atmosphere we had taken
part of a year earlier. Cannot believe
how fast the year has passed. However,
it was all there - the sofas, the bar,
the van serving fries with mayo (a must-
munch them the entire party), the PC-
retards and of course the normal people.
JUCKE had already settled down with his

smokingpartner FREESTYLE, and we all
knew we wouldn't be talking to them for
another day. After a while, we ran into
NIGHTSHADE, part of our competitors. It
was inevitable, I guess. As competitors
we still had an evil eye towards each
other concerning a few wellknown and
debated releases. As predicted, whenever
meeting people from the scene, eye to
eye, we just smile, say cheers and enjoy
the moment over a good beer. So much for
hostility on the scene, when it all co-
mes down to business! (Back home in
Sweden again, it is back to teasing each
other) As the competitors we are, we
decided to take our deeds to another
level. Instead of battling over the net
and on the boards, we'd meet in a simple
set of poker. With SIXX and NIGHTSHADE,
BOB passing out the cards, we both bet

one firstrelease. It was an exciting
moment, and actually attracted a great
deal of people to gather up around the
table. F4CG won the set, even though the
winning hand only was a pair of nines.

ALFATECH and SOLAR started working on
a quick production similar to RAJRAJ
and JOURNEY TO $0801, but in the daze
and haze, the disk was lost. Sadly, we
never got to participate in the compo.

           +----------------+

We all woke up pretty early, and shared
a disappointed moment as we realized the
fries&mayo-van wouldn't be showing up

for another 2 hours. Instead we headed
for the bar, and enjoyed some good beers
while waiting for the rest of the
sleepyheads to wake up. Sunday was also
the day of competitions, but to be hon-
est, it was one of the most unexciting
moments ever seen in history of the
Commodore 64. The demos were few, and
the ones released were vague illusions
of what they really could have been. As
the competition ended, it was "bye-bye,
see you next year" and drive back to
Amsterdam. Back in Amsterdam, some went
for heavy artillery smoking, while BOB,
NEWSCOPY, ALFATECH and MOTLEY went to
a bar in Red light. It was our last
nigh in Holland this year, and we made
damn sure we'd remember it. Especially
MOTLEY.

X96 is the most important and evident
happening over the year on the 64.
We hope and beg the organizers to
continue. Next year, we will be org-
anizing an entire bus from Sweden.
Is there a greater form of appreciation?
      Thank you, dear organizers.
