P - AS A FAMOUS PERSON, PLEASE TELL US
    ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND, WHERE IT
    ALL STARTED!!

G - Ehh... ...it quite started when my
best friend Jussi, today known as
    BIRRA/(B), got his Spectrum 48k,
and since he livef on the other side
of the school fence, I went to his
place to play HOBBIT and other nice
    games at the school-breaks.
Finally I even got my own computer,
which was the C-64 in '85, though I
had quite much of computer expe-
    rience from using my friends
    computers.

Then later we had a great famous
    person in IISALMI, my hometown.

He was just a awesome guy! He had
LOTS of games, Hundreds, and he even
    CRACKED THEM! WOOOOAOAAA! And then
once after school when he was
waiting for a school-bus to fetch
him, I walked to him and asked if
he was interested in game swapping,
I had some 3OO myself. That was the
    BEGINNING. :)

It then went on, and finally we were
a loose group that did things
together somehow. 4 chaps, though I
never ever met the 4th. :-)
The I started to gather contacts
that I could use for game-swapping.
    I checked C&VG, that was a great
Magazine at that time, and even sent
    one letter to letter-partners-pages
and got a lot of replies.

The interesting bit was, that there
were two guys, who were in small
    groups themselves, and were to
become very 'cool' guys later on.
    Reading their letters, I thought
maybe we should form a crew
selves, and I called the great guy,
KASPER, to ask if we should found
    the crew officially, using the
'BYTERAPERS INC.' name that we were
    already using with our so-called
    products. That was 1987.
Our first products were released in
    1986 November/December already.

Later, during Autumn, I managed to
make contact to the existing Finnish
    Scene, that numbered around DIGITIZE
    DESIGN GROUP, FINNISH CRACKING
    SERVICE/FINNISH GOLD, Z-CIRCLE etc.

I remember EUKU THE MAKER from
    Z-CIRCLE (or well, they weren't
    z-circle yet, but same chaps)
wondering how he never had heard of
us before, after I had sent him all
of our products(we had some 2O nice
    intros, that weren't spread outside
    our local area).

After that, it was rather rapid
    ascending to more fame,
more products, more friends and more
members. I'd say that from 1987
AUTUMN to 1988 SUMMER it was really
    explosive, the scene overall was
    getting bigger, and the potentially
good groups got very good audience.
Everyone was as good, or as poor...
but the ones with THE bit of
    originality had the chance.

    Duting 1987-1989, I practicly lived
for (B), and I think it showed.
I believe that our success was
rather mostly b'coz I was so active,
doing stuff for day and night,
kicking members to their asses etc,
to keep things going. There was
really much of members, since I
took in and kicked them rather
fast... not that I WANTED to make it
but I believed that having much of
good members is a good thing. I gave
them 'test time', and often was
forced to kick many out. I must
confess, that I HATED kicking people
out of (B). It felt VERY bad, EVERY
time. And still it feels bad when
thinking how people reacted, as I
    mostly called them up personally
and told about that - as a leader

I thought it was my responsibility.
As you can see I took it all very
    seriously, more than it should've
been, bit I really enjoyed it then.

P - COMPARING THE OLD SCENE WITH TODAYS,
    WHAT IS YOUR COMMENT.

G - Heck, I just don't know. I'm quite
    out of everything, that has
something to do with the Scene.
I have my C-64 in the basement,
since I don't have enough space to
have it here (you can guess it felt
bad to carry it there, after making
    the desicion.) After getting the
    A1200 I didn't have the space for
C-64, in addition to A500 and PC.

    But maybe there is something.
I can't say anything about those
    friendship movements, I don't even
    know if they still exist.
The concept waas good, but did
it work? At least I had personal
touch with my contacs, when I
    swapped, letters, written or typed,
etc. I formed many good friendships
that I rreally miss still (!),
    WARRIORS OF DARKNESS, ACADEMY,
    etc...

Maybe the scene is such a big and
'advanced' that it's hard for new
guys and groups to emerge and
    develop.

    Do you recongnize this Pattern:
Some guys found their own group.
    Everyone calls them lamers.
They try and try, and some of them
    develop SKILL. Good coderss maybe.
An existing group comes, and either
makes the coder to join them, or
    sucks the whole group.

BYTERAPERS did the same many times.
    Remember ACTION/(B), that later
became ORIGO, and had some other
names as well. They stayed with
    each others during their time
in (B), got very kicking and
    developed during the time.
When they were mature, ACTION FORCE
started their own path in World.

Though, of course I felt bad when
they left, but Ihad waited it
    happend... Afterwards thinking,
It Was to happend. With this I mean,
how often you see new groups to
    emerge, starting from the VERY
    beginning, develop to good groups
at their own time? BYTERAPERS did
so, we started from the very
beginning, and still are the same
old group. I feel very sad that
most new groups are just a
    collection of other existing groups.
New groups should be really started,
    and given a chance.

P - WHAT ARE YOUR AND BYTERAPERS FUTURE
    PLANS.

G - Well, we might restart our work with
"Peace & Anarchy", our Amiga demo
we were doing until two of my Amiga
Hard Disks burned with the demo
scripts, but now I have the HDs
    back online(after 2,5 months of
    getting it repaired).

P - DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL PEOPLE OR
GROUPS THAT YOU LIKE FROM THE PAST
    AND PRESENT.

G - WOD,GCF,TRIAD,FLT,Deadbeat and his
ass, The Assembly '92 C-64 arrangers
who I busted for drinking alcohol

in the party area and forbid them

    don't anymore remember the things
so well. I just hope that I someday

You sure you want to read it all?
Just read the old issues of
    SCANDINAVIAN NEWS, and get shocked
for the rest of your life.

Maybe the moment from IKARI'89 in
Denmark, when I was lost for 12
hours, and found myself from an
    elevator, and couldn't find the
    party from the huge school.
Or the DDG'88 DIGIPARTY, where I was
trying to unite (B), FINNISH GOLD
and STACK, and the leaders were
discussing the idea, all so boozed
that we stood tight together keeping
    each others in balance.
Or the moment I entered JEZEBELS
    UNION PARTY at 1987(1st Finnish
    party), showing my Mustanaamio-kerho
    gold-sign and the Yhdys Pankin
    Maapallokerhon jasenkorttia. :-)
(sorry, you have to be a Finn to
     understand).

P - AS A WELL KNOWN CODER, PLEASE TELL
US ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND AND WHAT
    YOU ARE UP TO NOWDAYS.

M - Long time ago, when most of my
friends had C64s, I became very
    interested in computers...
And as a result I got my C128D
    in 1986(if I remember right).
After a few months I started to
    learn some MachineCode programming
and I did some simple programs.
Years passed on and in 1989 or
something we formed a group called
SECURITATE. In a short period we
did some demos on Amiga. I did some
GFX and Design. I was also working
on a demo in C64 with two other
    coders, but SECURITATE died only
    after some months, b'coz GRENDEL

    asked us to join BYTERAPERS.
Only me, DR.DICK and PROTON are
still in BYTERAPERS, if I remember
    correctly.

DR.DICK and I decided to make some
demos on C64, but almost every <B>
member was doing something on Amiga.
So we didn't release anything on
the C64 for a long time. Time went
on, while we were boozing at parties
    and meetings.

Ofcoz I made a lot of routines with
my lovely C64, but lazyness was the
    word in <B>...
So it was 1992 when I made one intro
and I wanted to do a whole DEMO, but
I didn't want to use the old sources
so I decided to do a demo to

ASSEMBLY '93, but b'coz of no time
it was delayed. I went to the Army
       (Fuck the ARMY, it Sucks!)
and in that time I coded
WORLD OF CODE I. It was meant to be
released at the ASSEEMBLY '94, but
was ready much earlier, so it was
    released in MAY.

After WORLD OF CODE II, I'm now
coding the 3rd demo in this year...
    I'm currently studying at the
    Tampere University of Technology,
but I hope it doesn't slow me down.

P - COMPARING THE OLD SCENE WITH TODAYS,
    WHAT IS YOUR COMMENT?

M - I think the scene nowdays is much
friendlier than before. It's a good
thing that the scene is based on
    friendships rather than people just
trying to get famous. There isn't
much software produced for the C64
anymore, but I think the best thing
is that the C64 SCENE still exists.
    Let's Keep It ALIVE!

C64 DEMO : Hard to tell, there are
             a lot of cool demos

P - WILL WE BE SEEING THE BYTERAPERS INC
CREW AT THE -TRIBUTE '94- WITH
    WORLD OF CODE III?

M - A Strange Question, b'coz I just
told you that (ed. on INTERNET)
yesterday that I'll come and WOC 3
will be released there. (ed. hehe)
DR.DICK/<B> is also coming and I
hope that GRENDEL and others will
    come aswell...

P - DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL MEMORIES
FROM OLD COPYPARTIES THAT YOU'D LIKE
    TO SHARE WITH US?

M - I don't remember much of the copy-
    parties, b'coz we were always
boozing. But once when we were at
a party. Me and couple of other <B>
dudes decided to paint to the walls
in a WC and in some other places
aswell. Ofcoz we were fucking drunk.
After a moment there came some dudes
who told us that the cops were
searching for us. We hide in the
woods, drank there. When we run out
of beer we thought those dudes had
    been playing tricks on us...
    But they hadn't...
So when we came out of the woods
I heard someone calling my name, so
I said "What?" and guess what, it
were the cops. I was fucking nice
spending the night in a toilet
    cleaning very drunk.

A lot happend at the copyparties,
but it's hard to tell something...
    hehe... I remember one un-named
AMIGA dude got a Banana in his
    Ass. :)

P - WHAT ARE YOU FUTURE PLANS.

M - I don't have any exact plans for my
    future, bit I'll keep producing
demos for the C64 as long as there
    are people who looks 'em.
Ofcoz I have to finish my studies
and get a Job, but that's another
    story.

P - ANY LAST WORDS OR HELLOS.

M - Hellos to the whole C64 SCENE and
    especially all friends of
    BYTERAPERS! NEVER STOP YOUR C64
    ACTIVITIES, keep up producing cool
    stuff!!

...and about the Nazicross in WOC...
It was a BIG MISTAKE, neither I or
any BYTERAPERS are nazis. I hate
   nazis and other rasists.
I hope you didn't think we are nazis.

See you Later (at TRIBUTE '94 )
