     _______________________________________
As schedualed, we return to bring you the most popular source
for news and intertainment, THE PULSE MAGAZINE, released
by REGINA in the beginning of November.

THE PULSE MAGAZINE is still not readable for the Americans,
but we hope to have that problem cleared out soon. Other than
that, we have a great show for you this month. Go on reading!

Dear GENESIS PROJECT,
You are really beginning to make me laugh. In your 11th edition
of PROPAGANDA, you gave us credit for doing such a swell job
with our mag, but then you claimed indirectly in another part
of PROPAGANDA, that we based our text on YOUR abilities,
and not on ours.

Seems as if you are a two-faced person NEWSCOPY, when you
can pull one insult off after another agains't us, later to
award us as the most interesting group around today. That
really puzzles me, I must say. But no less, you are right that
we (or rather I) made some fun with GP and PROPAGANDA in
the OCTOBER edition of PROPAGANDA. But you ought to have
realised by now, that our section "CROSSFIRE" is dedicated
to do JUST that. We are NOT out to offend as many as possi-
ble, but to make a good satiric chapter. Remark that we only
wrote something about you in that chapter. Everything else
written was purely objective!

It does not bother me that you are "angry" with me, nor would
it ever. I have thousands of jokes to pull on you, as I find
todays GENESIS PROJECT far more fake than VISION. But that
is just my personal opinion, something I will hold in myself,
till one day you give me a reason for letting it go.

JUCKE has really made a fool of himself lately on the boards,
he knows nothing about ragging, so why does he try so hard?
Sorry, you will not offend me that easily. But it stands to me
very clearly, that it takes very little to offend you. Another
old GP quality there missing, get my point!?!

So to conclude this letter for you, I would like you to know,
that we have NO respect for you and your methods. Everything
PROPAGANDA stands for, we are against. We believe a mag
should be released on time, to qualify as a top mag. The fact
that you have achieved the status as a "top" mag, is beyond
me, but surely someday "the crowd" as you put it, will push
you away, and turn to the REAL source for news and enter-
tainment. Sorry PROPAGANDA, we are cashing you out!

Monthly Releases

     + MONTHLY RELEASES - NOVEMBER EDITION +
        ___________________________________
Here we go again, getting started with a look back what hap-
pened on the other side of the ocean the previous month. For
the first time we present you a report about each American
group, as far as there actually is something to report about!

[EMPIRE] Tristan is back active, calling the boards and kick-
ing his groupmates' asses. So does EQUINOX, who has had some
hardware problems recently. But now he has solved them, and
calls out again. On the other hand, nothing was released by
EMPIRE this month due to the inactivity of all their fixers.
[CODERZ] It seems they learned from the past months, as no
previews or similar lame pal only imports were released by them
All the fixing in CODERZ is done by their European member X-
RADICAL, who is a member of VISION aswell.
[ARMAGEDDON] Although many fixers teamed up with their
ranks, nothing could be released by them. Furthermore their
main-importer CARCASS suffered from hardware difficulties
and disappeared from the boards. MOLOCH seems to be the
last link of the group, so the future looks questionary!
[DEMONIX] Alive and kicking for months now! Nearly all major
titles were fixed or/and imported by them. With the powerful
fixerduo SIDE SECTOR+UNHOLY and KICKBACK in the back-
ground, nothing can stop them. Just their presence on the
boards has decreased, as they all have a codes problem, and
SWAN SONG calls out on weekends only.
[RSI (USA)] MASSIVE ONSLAUGHT and SUBZERO followed the
new trend, and had troubles with their computer outfit aswell.
SUBZERO has returned actively already, so it seems he could
solve his problem..
[TSM] Nothing happens. Still there, but inactive!
[RAD] DR.DOOM seems to be the last active member of this
group..

OTHER FIXERS:
ROCKSTAR/TALENT, EDDIE/EPIC, CBA/TRC and MRP/RSI..

The modifications of the chartsystem seemed to overload some
readers, so you have the chance to read the complete list of
rules we use, in a compressed way.

         + THE PULSE-CHARTSYSTEM V1.1 +
        ______________________________
Developed and improved by PSYCHOBILLY/RED SECTOR INC.

[1] Games are first released, if they are uploaded as a crack-
ed and 100% working version on the majority of the most impor-
tant boards (FORPLAY, DOWN BY LAW, VIRTUAL REALITY,
THE DUNGEON, HOLIDAY INN-CAMBODIA, TUNNEL OF WARES,
ILC, PHIBERCOM, EVIL ISLAND and THE SHAOLIN TEMPLE),
no matter if they are PAL only, or FIXED..

In case a fixergroup releases a fixed version after a PAL
release, both the fixer- and the group who supplied the ware
will get the credit for the first-release.
[2] Any lame activity, like re-releasing or ripping/recoding
old games, will be punished by -5 points each for every ware.
This negative value will influence the Quality-charts aswell!

[3] The credit (point) system consists of different elements:
  a) Quality       : 0.1 - 3.0 (lame to perfect)
  b) Price         : 1 - 2 - 3 (Low Budget-Budget-Fullprice)
  c) Fixing Points : 0 - 1 - 2 (Pal only-first released on pal
     and fixed afterwards-first released pal/ntsc).

[4] Previews are judged by their quality only. (0.1 - 0.9)

[5] The average quality in the Quality-Charts is calculated
like this: amount of points/amount of releases (not previews)..
ACTIVE (Sweden) (-5 Points/No Rank)
_____________________________________________
Their latest attempt to show activity on the American market
appeared to be a failure. BLAST BALL (-5) from USER DISK
was imported and fixed by CODERZ, although it was released
by many groups before when it came out under Zeppelin Games
a few years ago.

CHROMANCE (Hungary, Germany, Etc.) (3.1 Points/5. Rank)
_____________________________________________
This group released a lame preview from POKER (0.3) and a
quite decent puzzle game called KILLING FIELDS (2.8) from
LITHIUM NETWARE on pal.

EPIC (DK, Germany, Etc.) (5.4 Points/2. Rank)
_____________________________________________
In contrast to the past months, this group did not re-release
or anything like that. They turned up with a game called THE
SPACE VEGETABLE (3.4) which was released on pal first and
then fixed by CODERZ afterwards. NEGATRON (2.0) from DIGI-
MAG was released on pal by them.

ILLUSION (UK, USA, Norway, Germany) (4.2 Points/4.Rank)
_____________________________________________
Another sign of life called QUEST OF KRON (4.2) an adventure
game from COMMODORE FORMAT was released by them. No fix
was needed for this one though.

RED SECTOR INC. (Germany, UK, USA) (18.8 Points/1. Rank)
_____________________________________________
Their break is over, and the wares came with them. They start-
ed with a preview of GENLOC (0.9) from X-AMPLE, and went on
with a quite decent ware called KNAX (5.8) from DELTA SYS-
TEMS which was fixed by DEMONIX. Also a preview of MAYHEM
IN MONSTERLAND (0.9) was put out by them.

The long expected 100% version of QUADRANT (5.2) was finally
put out and fixed by MO+DEMONIX (Released under the RSI
flag only)..

Furthermore they could release one of the best games this
year- MAYHEM IN MONSTERLAND (6.0) from APEX on PAL!
SUCCESS (Holland, Germany, Etc.) (0.3 Points/8. Rank)
_____________________________________________
All they released, was a lame preview called CATCH II (0.3).

SUNRISE (Germany) (-5 Points/No Rank)
_____________________________________________
They re-released PAIR OF MEMORY (-5) on pal, which was put
out by ACTIVE and DEMONIX just a month before!

TRC (Holland, Spain, Etc.) (1.3 Points/6. Rank)
_____________________________________________
The other big dutch group could provide a new preview of
MYSTERIOUS WORLDS (0.5) and a preview of the soon released
TRODDLERS (0.8).
VISION (Germany, DK, Sweden, Etc.) (4.3 Points/3. Rank)
_____________________________________________
This month they could release their first real ware called
GHOST DRIVER (4.3) from MAGIC DISK, which was fixed by
CODERZ.

OTHER GROUPS: An average preview called FRONTBALL (0.4)
was released by TRANCE. Another SEUCK game hit the boards,
which was released by LASER called SPACE ASSASIN.

BEST GAMES: MAYHEM IN MONSTERLAND, KNAX AND
QUADRANT.

Have a look on the charts on the next pages..

Global Report

        + GLOBAL REPORT - THE HEADLINES +
          _____________________________
Welcome to the November HEADLINES, in which we will escort
you through the major happenings in October month. As always
we are first with the news, so be sure to keep yourself up to
date, with the ONLY reliable source for NEWS, THE PULSE!

If any mistakes should be found in this news chapter, feel free
to let us know, and we will correct it after checking out the
source from where it came from.

As always, the news and stories were collected by CROSSFIRE,
PSYCHOBILLY and DUKE. General editor of GLOBAL REPORT
remains as the past months, DUKE of REGINA.. Enjoy!
* DOC and FLETCH/LEGEND, the last active members from the
legendary cracking group IKARI, has announced that they are
leaving for the PC. Both DOC and FLETCH managed to reach
the kind of respect, suitable for even kings in their long
stay in the scene. The biggest success they were ever a part
of, was without doubt the greatest cracking group ever in
existance- IKARI. The group died, when they decided to join
their rivals LEGEND, which has set them back cracking-wise
ever since. It was a sad sight, to see them die in LEGEND, as
they lost more and more interest in the scene every day. They
will surely be missed b many, but the scene seems to go on as
if it did not really matter. I suppose we can conclude, that
they have done more than their bit to make the 64-history
great, for that, they receave our most humble thanks!
* RED SECTOR INC. took back their first place in the games
market, with a stunning flow of wares this month. Other than
that, they are arranging a party to be held in Germany in
January. According to PSYCHOBILLY, they could have chosen
another date, but because of the CAMELOT party, they
wanted to give everyone the opportunity of visiting both
parties. We have a detailed look at the arrangements at both
this party, aswell as the official 64 invitation, just released
by CAMELOT this month. TBB/ex.ARCADE is back again, he
joined up with RSI as a mailtrader. RSI's EHQ- "GODLAND" re-
named into "THE CAPITOL". Meanwhile when everybody thought
LAZINESS was gone, he returned as OB and put up a new BBS
running for RSI called "THE RED BBS", which can be reached
at +XX-XXXX-XXXXXX, running in Germany. DENSE, the editor
of the famous paper-magazine BULLET PROOF, was kicked out
of the group, because of laziness. This should also mean, that
BULLET PROOF will not be released ever again. SILVER/WOW
(a graphician) joined in to put the status in balance..

* LASER, the old UK-group has returned, with old faces such
as STEVE (ZENITH), RICK among others. They already put out
a note-file to announce their comeback, and they have also
put out a ware, to match their equally stunning comeback. So
far, they are planning to put up a BBS in London..

* X-TRO, the unknown swapper that joined TALENT a few
months ago, proved to have been a fake, and was booted out
of TALENT. During his stay, he did... Nothing!
* GENESIS PROJECT is back with PROPAGANDA again. This
time they promise to put it out on a monthly basis, to keep up
with their rivals. L.A.STYLE announced, that he was leaving
the 64 for the SNES, the future of his BBS has not been
revealed so far. Other than that, they recruited ALLANON
(a cracker) and DR.ACID/EXTEND. Some seem to be of the idea
that ALLANON is L.A.STYLE. NEWSCOPY claims that he does
not know anything about ALLANON's past, which seems rather
strange!?!

* THE SHADOW/AVATAR who just returned after a long break,
got busted again for code abuse. COLDRAKE is still calling
out, but TRISTAN/EMPIRE is gone aswell, possibly back in
jail, some say!
* The legendary Danish cracking group DANISH GOLD, has
been spotted calling DOMINIC. They are planning a comeback,
and they may even start calling the states, which seems to
thrill alot of people. Oh, what joy!

* ILLUSION has had to answer to alot of questions since
FREESTYLE left ILLUSION. Disputes came back and fourth,
and everybody longed from a response from the heart of
ILLUSION. We asked DERBYSHIRE RAM to give us his side of
the story, and it goes something like this: The main problem
was a clash of personalities between FREESTYLE and BRETT-
the sysop of "PURGATORY" (which is now dead). First THOMAS
(ed.FREESTYLE) wanted 100% control over the BBS, which was
not acceptable because numerous guys had been logging on
through the "backdoor" because of this. BRETT took full
control, after all, there was nothing THOMAS could do about
that living in Switzerland. They had a lot of words about this,
and THOMAS threatened to move the "ILS HQ" without asking
anyone in the group. The other American guy "GREGO"- sysop
of "ILC" backed BRETT on these matters, because he had the
same problem and he took over his own board 100%. So THOMAS
wanted out, and he openly posted all the so called problems
on to the main subs of "HOLIDAY INN CAMBODIA" instead of
the private "ILS" subs on PURGATORY. Naturally the Ameri-
cans reacted by counter-posting on "CAMBODIA" also. I acted
as a peacemaker all this time, but all THOMAS would say, was..
NO, NO, NO. He lied to members of other groups, like BOD and
RADAR, and got us a bad name. Then we got the first-release
of LIVERPOOL, I sent this directly to EMPIRE and DEMONIX.
The next day I got a call from EMPIRE, telling me to release
it PAL, because it could not be 100% fixed, so I told GREGO
and BRETT to spread it around the boards. This they did, and
THOMAS went crazy. He said we did it because RSI already had
the game being fixed (I never saw their version!!). I got it
four days before anyone else. He had been telling a lot of
RSI members about ILS internal affairs, and he had believed
what they told him before he would believe his own members.
GREGO had been supplying him with all his calling cards since
early this year, and he used them to slag off the Americans.
He tried to get me to alter the text on my intros, he even
sent me text to use and groups to greet. He also said we were
to release no more budget games, a bit stupid seeing that
LIVERPOOL has been the only game released in England since
MAY 6th. Anyway, he wanted a vote on the Americans, so we all
voted them to stay in except for him and ZORLAC, so he quit.
He wanted to run the group, the BBS, and tell us what to re-
lease. He also told lies to other ILLUSION members, to get
their votes. He almost succeeded until we saw posts which had
been buffered from CAMBODIA.

That was the story as it came from DERBYSHIRE RAM/ILS. We
thank BARRY for taking the time to give us the complete story,
which we hope will help everyone to understand the situation
in ILLUSION the past months. But to return to the events in
ILLUSION, SUSIEUZI put THE INTERSECTION back up, read
more about that in the BOARD REPORT.
* VISION has had TONS of explaining to do ever since they
rebuild the group. Some said they had no business rebuilding
it, as no original members were in. But VISION claim they ARE
build on original members, eventhough few believe them. Then
DR.JONES left VISION. According to him, he realised after a
while, that the critisism from JUCKE and NEWSCOPY was
correct, and that -"This VISION is FAKE". DR.JONES was also
angry about the unactivity of SATAN and the group in general,
something we can all agree to. But then DISHY confirmed to
THE PULSE, that VISION was infact never dead. The group was
kept alive by ICON and HOUBBA who never left the group,
eventhough to most of us it was officially dead. The current
memberstatus of VISION is : SATAN, DISHY, RAY, WOLF, XOSS,
MR.SMART, HEAVYHEAD, ICEBALL, ICON, HOUBBA, XORE...
X-RADICAL, DISKBANDIT and CRUEL. VISION can still expect
thundering attacks from ex.VISION members, who keeps on
claiming that VISION was rebuild on false ground. Oh well!

* PERNET and MACHO/SACRED left the scene after SACRED
died. Also IRONCAT/TRC left the scene, because he is going
into the army.

* TROOPER joined up with TRC, and CODE 18 was kicked out.
All the German members were kicked aswell, they joined up
with ATLANTIS (read more about this later).

* ALPHA FLIGHT kicked out NATAS. Some rumours were going
around that STING returned and joined, they are false though.
* ATLANTIS is for the first time in its long existance, a
cracking group. JACK ALIEN, DR.DISK, RENEGADE and CAV-
RON of THE RULING COMPANY joined in. "STATE OF THE ART"
(sysop: CAVRON) is now an ATLANTIS board. "POWERENGINE",
is now puplic. Sysop AVALANCHE still needs a few things to
fall into place, but it should be available at +XX-XXXXXXXXX.
The current memberstatus of ATLANTIS, goes as follows: DOC,
AVALANCHE, HI-TOP, SNAP, JACK ALIEN, DR.DISK, RENE-
GADE, CAVRON and ROBOCOP. They have yet to put out their
first 1st-release though!

* CHAOTIC FACTOR (TRANCE HQ) is now HQ for CHROMANCE
in the states..

* VODKA, HCL and SPIROU left LIGHT and joined up with
FAIRLIGHT. This means "FUTURE ZONE" is a FAIRLIGHT and
ACTIVE boards. LEGOLAND 3 can be expected at THE PARTY
1993.

* TRIAD recruited some new members, RAVE/TWILIGHT and
RAVAGE/UNITY (both swappers). SLICE (Australia) quit the
scene, aswell did JOHAN who just joined a while ago. ILLUSION
OF REALITY, run by MIDNIGHT MOVER is down until further
notice..

* And finally REGINA recruited METAL (musician), who is back
after a long break. He is known for his past in VIBRANTS,
CAMELOT and BONZAI. IDOL left the group! [PRESS FIRE]

Board Report

Greetings, Dear Readers! [BOARD REPORT]
Another month have passed, the new issue of your favorite
magazine is out, and with it, ofcourse another board-review.

This month we caught up with yet another board located in
HOUSTON/TEXAS, to be more specific "THE INTERSECTION",
sysoped by SUSIEUZI/ILLUSION, who dispide being a proud
member of ILLUSION, had chosen to run her board as INDE-
PENDANT, atleast for some time.

We caught up with SUSIE, tied her to a chair, and made her
answer all our questions.

-* "THE INTERSECTION" Can Be Reached On 713-451-5993! *-
Before starting, let me give you some insight-information on
this BBS.

The board might seem like a new one to most of you, but it is
infact an old board which has returned. The sysop, SUSIEUZI,
took it down 6 months ago, as she moved from TAMPA/FLORIDA
to HOUSTON/TEXAS, and it has been down ever since, until
she finally moved out of GREGO/ILS' home and got established
in her own apartment nearly 2 weeks ago.

..but by all means, let's get started now, or else we probably
  never will...

                                           Next Page!
TP=THE PULSE MAGAZINE
SU=SUSIEUZI/ILLUSION

TP: Hello SUSIE, and congratulations with the huge success
your board has had in the 2 weeks it has been back on the
air. How would you define your boards change from when
you moved from TAMPA/FLORIDA and finally got settled in
Houston? I myself, have noticed alot of action going on
on it, but is it any different from when you ran it from
    FLORIDA?

SU: THE INTERSECTION is very different than its early days
in TAMPA, but not too different from the last days it was
on the air there. THE INTERSECTION started..-Next Page
out as the response to a local TAMPA-sysop who posted,
that if I thought that I could do better than his BBS, I
should put one up myself. In about an hour I had construc-
ted a UC 1.1, and put it online parttime 6 pm till midnight
In ONE day I had logged on 37 users, so I decided maybe I
should just leave it up. As I was job hunting at the time,
it remained a parttime board for a while, then later went
to 24 hours. The board is named after a form of auto-
racing called "FIGURE 8", in which 24+ drivers on an 8-
shaped track try to complete the laps on the race without
a collision with the competition in the intersections-
points of the track. I was crew-chief on a Figure-8 car at
the time, and as it seemed to be constantly colliding with
the other sysop's in the area, it seemed appropriate.
At some point in its parttime area, PRODIGY (former sysop
of "TERMINAL OBSESSION, former ILLUSION board .ed!)
began to encourage me to let the local lamers fall where
they may and get into the scene. THE INTERSECTION went
through some stages of 13-years-olds crashing it and
acted stupid online (X-RADICAL??? Haha!! .Ed), so I made
the board 18 and older, which set off what later turned
into the major boardwar of any time in TAMPA. At this
point I decided that PRODIGY might very well be right, and
with his help started changing my BBS around abit. About
this time he decided to leave the scene, and I ended up
with some of his hardware, and some of his software UC 1.3
from TERMINAL OBSESSION. At the end of the TAMPA-
days, the board was a mix of scene callers, and a few...
...locals who weren't intimidated by the local sysops. The
one big problem left was to fill the void wares-wise that
was left in the area when PRODIGY took down T.O. At this
point GREGO/ILLUSION stepped in, not only uploaded some
good stuff, but put everything current on his drives on
disk and mailed them off to FLORIDA to keep things alive.
Through the help of GREGO and PRODIGY, I build a nice
little board named EMPHASIS ON LITTLE. When I moved I
chose to keep most of the users on the logs, deleting only
those I knew would never call again due to the move. The
GFX have changed, but the mix of locals, PC-pursuit
callers and scene-members still remains, as it does on IN
LIVING COLOUR. I like the variety of idea's, the exchange
of knowledge and the general variety of an open style....
board. EVERYONE has N/A, unless they violate the very
    few rules we have online..

TP: Thank you. I sense you are surprise over how many regular
callers you have gotten, or am I wrong here? I remember
you being a little sceptic over it all, but didn't it all
turn out just GREAT after all?

SU: I am not TOTALLY surprised at the callers I have had.
Since the board went back up, less than 2 weeks ago, it
has crashed due to equipment-failure and phone-lines
down. Actually I am rather pleased, that the subs have
scrolled and people are logging on new every day.....
It DOES bother me, that some of the people on the log
with valid accounts have not yet checked back in, but I
suppose they did not EITHER CARE for the board OR are
too busy, or unfortunately have turned agains't me since
I joined ILLUSION a couple of months ago. That may sound
strange, but it is a fact that some people I thought were
my friends turned cold when ILLUSION showed up after my
handle. Funny how a bit of alphabet soup can change
things. The board is better now, but far from perfect. But
    we'll work on that.

TP: Could you please give us an insight on the equipment used
to run the board, such as hard- and software.

SU: Currently, THE INTERSECTION is running on 3 1581's and
    a 1541. I have 3 other 1541-drives which I MAY or may NOT
add to the board after I weed through my recent hardware
problem in which my power-supply toasted and wiped out
the user-files and some other things, which is the reason
why I've only gotten 3 hours of sleep this night. I DID
save all the msg-bases and the users, though I had to put
all 72 accounts back MANUALLY (Hey, THAT is decication
folks! .ed!), so nobody would have to log on new, and the
E-MAIL would be intact. I also have a 2400-modem, colour-
monitor and a printer and a few other odds and ends that
keep THE INTERSECTION alive. I am currently running a 1.3
version of UCBBS, with a modded version forthcoming if I
ever get the time to finish the mods. -Next Page!!!-
While some users prefer C * Base, it seems EVERYONE is
running "Crash-Base" lately, and since UC is for the most
part simple and reliable, especially when it comes to file
transfers, I chose to stay with it. Also, sentimental as
it sounds, it keeps one little part of TERMINAL OBSES-
SION alive, at least in my head.

TP: I see. I understand your board in INDEPENDANT as it is at
the moment. Do you have any special HQ-groups in mind for
    the future?

SU: THREE Euro-groups have expressed their interest in my
board becoming a hq for them. At PRESENT the board is
independant, except ofcause for being........-Next Page!-
the world-hq for the LBDSA. The LBDSA was born a cold
wet Sunday morning in the minds of DARKLORD/ILLUSION,
GREGO/ILLUSION and myself and if ofcause the only group
we can just about ALL qualify for. The funny part is, that
it actually trickled over into some Amiga and IBM-boards,
for those who still don't know, what LBDSA is...It stands
    for LAZY BEER-DRINKING SMART-ASSES. We don't do
anything, put out NO wares, cause we are either too drunk
or too lazy. At ANY rate, LBDSA's are always welcome at
THE INTERSECTION. Anyway, being soundly loyal to ILLU-
SION, I don't want to hq for anyone that may remotely look
like a conflict of interest, so to date I have chosen to
remain independant as far as the board, until I can dis-
    cuss it with the group-members.
TP: I see! Well, before we end this little chat which has been
most cousey, is there anything special you wanna add
to any of this, that I might have forgotten in my usual
stressed condition trying to get this finished in time?

SU: Yes there are a couple of things I would like to say quick.
First one to correct an error in the last issue of PULSE,
I am NOT GREGO's girlfriend. Don't want to put a damper
on the guy's social life by leaving that rumour out there
floating around, NEXT I would like to thank a few people
who have been alot of help and support both in my perso-
nal life and with the board. GREGO/ILLUSION especially,
for helping me getting settled in HOUSTON/TEXAS, and all
the current members of ILLUSION. -Next Page!!!-
Also thanks to EDDIE/EPIC who did most of board-GFX for
me, LUCIFER/CODERZ, RELUCTANT DRAGON, and my
buddy KEITH, and ofcause all the users on my board, all
the sysops that gave me access when all I could show for
myself was a little board and a couple of big name friends,
and a special thanks to PRODIGY/ex.ILLUSION and HERO/
ex.ILLUSION, gone from the scene but not forgotten, and
ofcause to CROSSFIRE/EPIC for putting me on the spot
for this interview on such short notice...

TP: Well, you're welcome! Thank you alot for your time, SUSIE.
We in the staff of THE PULSE MAGAZINE wishes you and
THE INTERSECTION all the best for the future. [THE END]

Crossfire

+ CROSSFIRE - THE AUTOPSY OF THE SCENE +
    ____________________________________
Meanwhile at the house of THE PULSE MAGAZINE, another
edition of CROSSFIRE is in the making. The chapter in which
we uncover scandals and rumours from the ZOO scene..

Last month we dedicated CROSSFIRE to PROPAGANDA because
they were unable to release their own mag. Guess what? They
are back on track (BUT, for how long), so we need not give
them a reason to release it anymore. Therefore we dedicate
this edition to POWERPLANT of LEGEND again. He does not
mind anyway, he is too busy being lazy and fucked up. So be
sure to leave your complaints in his mail-box at THE SHAOLIN
MONSTER, at 1-800-POWER-BABE. GENERAL EDITOR, DUKE!
* The infamous crackers, DOC and FLETCH of LEGEND, has
announced that they are seeking new challenges on the PC. A
while after their news was brought upon the media, a shocking
fact was revealed. It happens, that FLETCH was unable to see
his own computer, due to his inhuman belly, which led him to
quit the scene. Others wonder how he will manage to use a PC
keyboard, but the ugly glow of its slimy letters, should help
out, eventhough his enourmous stomach is in the way.

DOC does not have the same problem, but for years he has
been doing what he was told (who ever saw any statement from
DOC!), so he did what FLETCH did, like he always did in the
past. Someone impersonated the voice of FLETCH, called DOC
up, and told him to say like a chicken. Guess what, he did it!
* Meanwhile at the house of THE BREAKER/RSI - (buffered)
"Why can't I be lamer of the month? I never win anything!"...

* PARSON is back in the army, currently stationed in eastern
Germany. This however, could be a cover up for what is really
going on. Some say he has been showing off his dick to a group
of teenage girls, which gave him a few months in prison. One
of the girls was confused, "but we could not see anything any-
way, so no harm was done!!".

* JUCKE/GENESIS specialises in the lenght of dicks. He just
released a new book, entitled "It is gigantic" which shows
pictures of his stomach, along with African dicks in colour!
JUCKE has begun his study on homosexuality of dogs and cats!
* RED SECTOR INCORPORATED is back in business once again,
bringing fear and decay on their competition. According to MR.
PRESIDENT, their inactivity in September, was to blame on
HOK, "The bloddy bastard ate all the games that came it". It
seems HOK has got a stomach ache after his feast, so he left
a few games alone. Someone better put him in chains!

* Rumours say that TRISTAN is back in jail. According to local
friends of his, he did nothing illegal. He FORCED his way into
jail. It seems his Frensh-Canadian group-mates in EMPIRE is
driving him MAD! A close friend of his, heard that TRISTAN
was talking about, "That EXTREMMIST will kill me one day". He
also complained over RICH calling him constantly when someone
made a small rag on him. So TRISTAN is simply on a vacation!
* DENSE is finally kicked out of RSI after a long period of
complete silence from him. We called up DENSE, and he told us
that "I'M...SOOO....LAAAZZZYY". DENSE seems history for the
scene, as this decease remains without a cure..

* GENESIS PROJECT is again trying to invade the cracking
market. This time they recruited a cracker called ALLANON.
According to NEWSCOPY, "Well, I know nothing of his past,
but I do not care, we are desperate". Sofar PROPAGANDA has
been the only production released under the once great label
of GENESIS PROJECT, so I suppose it is understandable.

* DANISH GOLD is back. But it seems to long ago since they
were roaming the scene, so they renamed into DANISH RUST!
* X-TRO, the unknown swapper that joined TALENT recently,
was kicked out because of inactivity. We called up X-TRO, and
asked him about why he thought he was kicked- "Well, if they
would have given me a bit more time, I would have figured out
how to operate my disk-drive. Personally I think TALENT is
much too demanding these days!". X-TRO told us he was as-
hamed of the way he was treated in TALENT, "I only got two
phone-sex calls from BOD. That is not good for my morale!".

* SUN DANCER/REGINA plans to cut his hair, and shave the
letters SUN into the back of his head. He already went through
some dramatic episodes in his life, being chased by a "HYPO-
FRIDGE" as he calls it, must have been hard on his psychic
condition, as he keeps saying "There came a troll"????.. Oooh!

    ________________________________________
Welcome to another edition of NATURES CORNE , with your
host, POWERPLANT of LEGEND!

Today we have with us one of natures true wonders. He specia-
lises in the field of buffering, and has declared the block-
busting news-giant THE PULSE MAGAZINE buffering war.

PWP     : Tell me, did your father not abuse you as a child?
JUCKE  : NO! Life sucks, huh!

JUCKE stars as the BUFFER-MAN in the new SOLAR movie,
CHICKENATOR, sponsored by ANTICHRIST and SORCERESS.
* MEANWHILE AT THE HOUSE OF GENESIS PROJECT...

- IN THE MORNING
NEWSCOPY    : Dad, can I write something for PROPAGANDA?
ANTICHRIST : Okay son, you MAY write something!

- IN THE EVENING
JUCKE      : Can I eat some of them pork-chops, dad?
ANTICHRIST : WHAT!!! They are mine stupid boy. Now GET!

- AT NIGHT
MOTLEY       : Can I play with you mom?
SORCERESS   : Sure honey, these balloons belong to GENESIS!

        + EPISODE # 000002 - SUPER SKINHEAD +
      ________________________________
In last episode, HARTMUT and JOCHEN were about to enter
the "SINGLE MEN OF THE 90's" bar, when they discovered
that the door was locked.

"OH MY GOD", what will we do now, JOCHEN said out loud. They
were beginning to panic, no other club would have them, they
were out-casts. Suddenly the door opened, there stood the
new owner of the bar, JUCKE! "Come on in, I've bought the bar,
so now you don't have to listen to anymore shit fro PARSON!".
"GREAT MAN, cool!" HARTMUT said in a strange and almost
girly type of voice. When they entered, they noticed sceners
like BOD, SOLAR, POWERPLANT and others sitting in the bar.
That concludes episode TWO. Next episode is out together
with the next edition of CROSSFIRE. GET IT!

* RADAR is not the strong silent type everybody imagined
(yeah right). It seems, in his lame attempts in trying to act
cool, he lowered the access of MAJESTY, CROSSFIRE and
DEFF on "HOLIDAY INN CAMBODIA". Rumours say he did this
with others, that succeeded in humiliating him on the board. We
spoke with RADAR about this, and he claimed MAJESTY was
making fun of his private-life, and RADAR got so mad, that
he lowered his access, aswell as others. RADAR said, that
just because he had no social-life, there was no point in
making fun of him. RADAR is still working at a yuppie place,
where he operates as the garbage-man. There is a golden
future in this job, RADAR claims. "And sometimes I get to keep
some of the trash they throw out". He used to work as a pool-
man some time ago, but he drank all the water from the pool,
so he got fired.

Snip snap snude, nu er den (et eller andet) ude. With a bit of
danish, another CROSSFIRE comes to an end. I hope you have
enjoyed the facts about the poor and famous, eventhough
there is not much to write about these days!

Next time we will bring more revealing stories, so be sure to
stick with the leading entertainment source. Till then!

I can still recall how I, STEVE, used to react when a new issue
of a magazine was released, back when I was real active in the
scene. I used to skip everything else, and jump right to the
demosection, where I could read what was new, who did what and
generally what people thought of other people's work.

I've always formed my own opinion about other people's work,
and I enjoy discussing quality. Even though magazines are a
oneway communication media, just sitting at home (dis)agreeing
with the reviewer(s) is a thrill in itself. What I'm trying to
say, is that I hope those of you who share my kind of interest
in and love and dedication to the demoscener, are.... [PAGE 2]
still out there. I hope you still eagerly seek the demosection
of the mags, in the hope that other people share your ideas
and opinion.

Those of us responsible for this section of the mag, sincerly
hope that THE PULSE either is or will be amongst your special
favorites. We write things as we would like to read them, which
is the very best we can do. If you wish to critic what we do or
need to be correct us at something, and/or you have ideas of
improvement, please do write to either the official PULSE
address, or to SUN DANCER/STEVE personally. All incoming
letters will be commented under the MAILBOX column.

Demos have ben rather slow this month (I guess.... [PAGE 3]
everyone is busy getting ready for THE PARTY 1993), so the
introduction of our new column comes in real neat.

This new column is called "TRICK TUTORING", it is for coders
mainly, but everyone else who would like more insight in demo
coding would find it very interesting.

Each month we will take up a special demo-trick (could very
well be one of the tricks in the demos we teest) and go through
it step by step, explaining princips, implementation and opti-
mization. Hopefully this will provide youwith new energy and
inspiration for your own tricks. But first things first. The
following pages includes the demo- and graphics reviews of
the month.. [PAGE 4]

Coding by LASER (Who apparently is BRIX/COMIC PIRATES)
Graphics by LASER
Music by SYNDROM and RAGMAN

STEVE, about the coding:
A demo of 2 parts only. It's actually only an introduction of
the authors abilities, and frankly; It doesn't prove a lot!
Part one is a bitmap picture with a small monitor in the centre
of the screen, where a (small, 8 pixels high) bitmap scroller
is placed. In the top is a poor attempt of doing an.. [PAGE 5]
equalizer (As seen in various trackers on PC and Amiga). The
equalizer is combined by a small amount of animated sequen-
ces, and follows (or atleast tries to follow) the plain SID
music (No samples!).
The second part consists of a bitmaplogo and a short ray-
tracedanimation. Looks okay to me, but still. Real simple code!
Anyway, if you read the scroll, you will learn, that LASER
doesn't think of himself as a codingwizard, but thinks that
he has greater abilities in building a part around the grap-
hics. I hate people who brag about their lame seen-a-1000-
times-before-tricks, but I really respect a guy like LASER for
realizing what he's good at and what he's not. Thumbs up for
that, and keep up the work, LASER!
                                         [PAGE 6]
SUN DANCER, about the graphics:
The graphician is named LASER, and that is his problem. The
graphics in this demo isn't very amuzing, for a reviewer to
watch. As a reviewer, I enjoy giving high grades and positive
comments.. In this case however, that is not possible. The only
positive thing, that I am capable of saying, is that LASER have
some good ideas. But, he still doesn't have the abilities to
make it look proper.

STEVE, about the coding:
First part is what I'd call a note! Apparently ISPACE thinks of
it as a part, but flashing chars with a couple of sprites on
them is a note to me! Space.. The next part is supposed to be
funny. It's the world record of a 128.000 dots sine-plotter.
Actually it's a screen flashing black and white, but ISPACE
points out that it's only for fun. By the way, if you had
interlaced the Y-axis aswell, you could have had.... [PAGE 8]
640x400=256.000 dots.. Gotchya there, eh?!
Third part is again something I wouldn't call a demopart. Looks
more like an intro, but what do I know. All you get is a bitmap
logo with some text underneath.
The end part is simple aswell. A bitmap picture, a scroll and a
few sprites here and there. Rather melodic tune by the coder
himself though.

SUN DANCER, about the graphics:
Well, for one thing: ISPACE should definately stick to his
coding, and drop his praphical ventures. They really aren't
very pretty! This demo contains alot of simple and unpretty
charsets, and very simple 3-colour logo and that's it. I am
fully aware of the fact that W.O.W has never labeled [PAGE 9]
themselves as a cool graphics-group, but this production wont
buy them any respect. In my opinion, they should begin seeking
qualified artists. Instead of having coders performing work
they simply can't do properly, and thereby lowering the
quality of their demo-productions!!

STEVE, about the coding:
Now HERE's a biggie. This demo has over 15 parts, which really
is a lot nowadays. I won't go into details in every part, but
instead shortly describe the effects and my opinion of them.

SIDEBORDER DYCP (A few years too late, I might add!). Overlay
CHESSBOARDS (An OK effect, considering the incredible
simple coding. One (larger) chessboard moves on top of anot-
her (minor) chessboard, giving a sort of parallax-like effect).
256-DOTS PLOTTER (Lame outofdate plotter - Check put
TRICK TUTORING this month!!). [PAGE 11]
DYPP TECHTECT (Great PLASMA effect.. Hard to see what it
is, but it's smooth and real slimy. So I like it!)
BOB-SCROLL (Well, there's never been a bob near this part.
But that's what they call it! Each letter is 8x8 "bobs" big, an
each Y-line is capable of moving. Nothing much really).
TURMES FRACTAL (Wierd part. Loads of numbers and stuff to
mess up with the joystick! When you think you've messed up
enough, you can order the computer to start drawing, and..
Well.. It draws!).
COLORCYCLING (Neat cause it's in the sideborders. Well,
atleast is somewhat new. More colours would have been appre-
ciated though).
BOBZOOMER (Afterburner/Tomcat inspired effect, where
each pixel of a letter is presented by a bob). [PAGE 12]
DOT-BALL (preanimated, which makes the coding less than
impressive. However, the preanimation doesn't ruin the effect
at all, so it's acceptable!).
FLI TECHTECH (Another PLASMA effect. I'm a real acid-head,
so anything that has to do with plasma impresses me. This par-
ticular FLI effect is seen hundreds of times before though).
LINEMANIA (Real impressive when you first look at it. Lots of
lines twist and turn from right to left realtime. The effect
however is acheaved simply by precalculating a few animations
and then looping these (Just like then you do the wellknown
"unlimited bobs"). Still, looks neat!).
METAMORPHOSIS (Totally lame char-animation effect).
SIX LOGOMOVER (Six small logos on line, all VSP'ing in diffe-

nation of matrix and sprites. Looks cool!).
DYSP STRETCHER (A simple stretching spritescroller in the
sideborders. Has nothing to do with DYSP, and is a few years
too late aswell!).
THE END (A sideborder DYSP logo, and some credits++ in the
sideborders below the logo. Simply an informative part).

Overall I can say, that a LOT of work has been put into this
demo. The result is generally good. A few bogus parts here and
there, and no revolutionary code anywhere. Still, definately a
demo worth checking out!!

SUN DANCER, about the graphics:
Most graphics in this demo was performed by PETE/ [PAGE 14]
CHAOS. I met a PETE once, at THE PARTY 1991 - and I trust
this isn't the same PETE! (The PETE I met was a member of
X-FACTOR, and his talent, was hopefully better than this!).
This PETE/CHAOS has some good ideas, both regarding col-
ours and the outline of his logos. Unfortunately he does not
have the abilities, to bring these ideas into the real life.
The shading of his logos usually fucks up, as if he just uses
some sort of standard filling for every letter. However, I'm
sure we haven't seen the last of PETE/CHAOS. It's quite
obvious that the boy, posseses quite good talents. And fur-
ther more, he is a very active fellow. He made 99% of the
graphics for this demo, that's remarkable considering it's
constructed of 16 parts! Only one thing that really made me
wonder. BARFLY/POWERS OF PAIN once made an... [PAGE 15]
excellent charset, used in demos like TENDANCE etc. It's
amazing how much PETE's charset look-a-like BARFLY's!
(No offence!)..

IDLERS GFX - COLLECTION by IDLERS DESIGN
And allow me to introduce the 64 scene to THORP/IDLERS
DESIGN. This is THORPS first production, and he is doing a
remarkable job. His logos are quite simple - and so are his
pictures. Despite this, I liked this collection. THORP has a
very developed sense for doing stylish graphics, bringing an
entertaining element of perspective into his pictures. His
colours could be slightly improved, but man.. [PAGE 17]
This is one of the best graphic-collections I have seen in a
long time..

BRONX - What a rush! Well, I was positively surprised to get
this STUNNING graphics collection from BRONX. This is the
first time I have ever seen a logo from BRONX, with more than
3 colours.
BRONX belongs in the stone age, both regarding code and
graphics. Most of the "pictures" in this collection were per-
formed by PIXEL. I actually met PIXEL at THE PARTY 1992, and
honestly.. I like him more as a person, than as a- [PAGE 18]
graphician. This really sucks!

ROBOCOP GFX by AVALANCHE/ATLANTIS
I really like this little graphic-file. The picture is an exel-
lent conversion of the Robocop movie poster, and it's perfor-
med with style.
I am just surprised this little thing, was not released in a
demo. It is a waste of artistic skills, to release such work in
a simple one file gfx shower! Good work, AVALANCHE!

No doubt about it, GENESIS has talented graphicians. Their

We receaved a letter from COP of FACES and CHROMANCE. He
wants us to know that he likes what we do, but would like to
comment SUN DANCERS allegation that the east-european
scene is lame:
- "What do you mean of the "Eastern block"? Ey man, here are
a lot of kewl teams (CHROMANCE, PRIDE, TRIUMWYRAT, GRA-
FFITY, FACES, just to mention some in Hungary). Please do
not use "again a demo from the East". I don't speak generally,
if you see lame designed demos. I know, I know.. But [PAGE 21]
there are also lamers in Western Europe, aren't I right? Ok, I
ain't angry, just a bit depressed"..
SUN DANCER was unfortunately not able to comment this let-
ter, as he's currently under severe time pressure. Therefore
I hope you do not mind that I, STEVE, do it instead.
It's perfectly alright to be angry with us! We don't expect to
agree with everyone in the scene. And I understand you, for I
feel the same way if someone started slagging on Danish demos.
But the fact is that the eastern groups DO tend to have a bad
reputation. A bit like American demogroups, when their demos
once in a while reach western Europe. It's like these "out-
siders" live in their own time; A time western Europe passed a
long time ago. These people of another time unite in their own
scene, and form what the westerners tend to think of as slum!
I agree that there ARE eastern groups that are respected by
us (wild) western people - I for example think of (or atleast
thought of, I'm not sure who they are these days) TRIUMWY-
RAT, as a real cool group.
We can only hope that more eastern groups will stand up from
the crowd and give that scene a better reputation. Until then,
generalization is bound to happen.

           ___________________________
As explained above, the new column is for those of you who are
interested in how effects work, how to do new things, and how
to make them better than what others already have done.
This months special trick will be the art of plotting dots. As
this is the first time we present you this column, I (STEVE)
decided to take up something fairly simple. More advanced
effects take a lot of research and writing to describe, and
since time is limited (Even for me) I will save them, and write
the proper articles about them in later issues. But read on,
I'm sure some of you will find useful hints!

Notice: Source-codes found in this column usually [PAGE 24]
do not work as they are. They are ment as examples for you to
get greater insight in different ways of coding. Also, minor
errors can occur, as the examples were constructed on paper
for the purpose of tutoring and are therefore usually not
tested. You are, however, perfectly free to use whatever tips,
tricks, hints and assembler sources (fully or parts of) you
might like to use for your own intros, demos or games. You do
not need to credit me nor any other member of The PULSE
staff, as we believe information wants to be free. Just try to
be original - That's what keeps the scene going..

PLOTTING DOTS...
Ever since man sat foot on earth (Or atleast since the C64
was released back some 12+ years ago, which ever [PAGE 25]
came first) people made plotters. For some reason, seeing a
pixel moving around in a sinecurve is very special to computer-
freaks. Many different effects have been made, but more
important: The same effects have been coded over and over
again in different ways. It all boils down to one thing: opti-
mization.
I will not go into how to make great sine-effects or how you
make your plotter look great. I will describe different ways of
actually putting a dot on the screen, and I will then leave it
all up to you to make something cool out of it.
The hires plotter (In singlecolour graphicsmode!) was probably
the first type of plotter on the C64. 320 times 200 is a nice
high resolution (Atleast for this machine) so dots look good
on it. Also, people didn't really care about optimi- [PAGE 26]
zation, so they didn't mind that a hires plotter actually is
rather advanced.
The problem is that you have to calculate the Y-value for each
dot. The reason is the extremely tricky hires format which I
assume you already know: Theupper left address (0,0) is
$x000, address (0,4) is $x004, address (0,8) is $x140 and
soforth.
Lets say that the Y-register contains the dot Y-value. The
following example would then calculate the Y address:
(Notice: In all the following examples, the plotting can only
be done in a window of 256x256 dots. The screen is 320x200,
so be careful when you play with the Y-axis, and remember that
you cannot use all X positions.)

; Multiplies Y-reg by $0140; stores result in $FE/$FF.
; Uses zerOpageaddresses $FD-$FF.

          ; 58 cycles
                                         [PAGE 28]
..And that's that! But what about the X-value?! Problem is
solved by this next example:

; Calculate X value and bit position from X-reg.

TXA            ; (2)
AND #$F7       ; (2) Skip lower 3 bits
TAY            ; (2) Store in Y
LDA tab11,X    ; (4) Get correct pixelposition
ORA ($FE),Y    ; (5) Don't delete other pixels
STA ($FE),Y    ; (6) Draw new pixel
               ; ---
               ; 21 cycles
                                        [PAGE 29]
; Bitpositiontable
      .BYT $80,$40,$20,$10,$08,$04,$02,$01

Remember that you have to delete the dot again before you
move it (in the next frame).
One way of doing this is recalculating the position and store
zero. But another much faster way is to simply store the
$FE/$FF values right after the calculations:

; Store position for later deletion. Place this right after the
; position is calculated

STY delete1+1   ; (4)
LDA $FE         ; (3) [PAGE 30]
STA delete2+1   ; (4)
LDA $FF         ; (3)
STA delete2+2   ; (4)
                 ; ---
                 ; 19 cycles

; Delete dot. Place this before the dor is draw.

delete1 LDY #$00         ; (2)
delete2 STA $2000,Y      ; (5)
                   ; ---
                   ; 7 cycles

                                         [PAGE 31]
All in all that's 105 cycles. This is actually not that slow
for a dot that calculates the position. But it's totally un-
acceptable!!

Now, when the X value was calculated, we used a table. Perhaps
tables could be used other places to increase speed?!

; Complete delete+plot routine - Does exactly the same as
; shown above, but now using tables. (Uses zerOpage $FE/
; $FF)

(Repeat sequence till you have 256 datas)

This way of doing it takes up $400 bytes of data, but just look
at the speed: Only 56 cycles for both drawing and deleting!!!
That's less than half of what we achieved when calculating the
position. Hopefully you're now inspired to do more optimization
on your own.

I won't take up regular textmodeplotting (plotting into char-
sets), as it is nothing but a simple hiresplotter. Instead I'll
shortly explain how BONES was able to shock everyone with an
over 600-dots plotter. They were the first to introduce Y-
plotting, a rather revolutionary (and real simple) way of
plotting. The trick is simply to create an illusion of dots
moving on their X-position, by moving their Y-position only.
Moving something up and down can be done real fast if you do
it in a charset and structure the matrix like when you do a
DYCP:

agmsy.
bhntz.
ciou.. ..And so on all the way across the screen!!

; Simple example to move 4dots in a row up and down, following
; a sinus. Switch on charset 4/bank 3 ($2000-$2800) and store
; sinus in address $1000. Also remember to put up the right
; matrix.

90 cycles for 4 moving dots - That's less than 23 cycles per
dot, enabling you to do (theoretically) around 800 dots real-
time.. Now how do you like that?!?

And that has to do for this time. Keep in mind that every trick
has its limits (Just like when I say that you can do 800 dots,
I didn't warn you that you have to modify the deleteroutine a
bit when you want to add more dots to the x-axis.. But try
it for yourself!). Hopefully there weren't too many bugs in
the assembersources - None were tested on the C64 this issue
(since this article was edited on PC). I'll return next month
with the debugging (if any) more Trick Tutoring.

        _____________________________
Now we take a look at the overall charts from 14 magazines
released the previous month. As always we give 10 points to
the number one, down to 1 point for the 10th place.

THE MAGAZINE OVERALL CHARTS are made to give you an
overall picture of who is the most popular groups/persons, in
the voters opinion. Therefore this chart would be much more
precise than any other chart, based on the voters opinion..

The votes were counted by me (DUKE), and the magazines were
collected by me aswell. Feel free to send in magazines, if you
want us to include their votes too..
The following magazines deserves the credits as the ones we
used making the most precise overall charts world-wide...

* CREST is back at first place, eventhough I find it rather
strange that the voters has awarded them with so many points,
when they have done nothing, let alone shown any sign of life.
FLASH INC. is the same story. Ever since they started making
games, they've become popular again. But that should not
reflect in the demo charts though..

* TRIAD moving up 2 places, to a well-deserved 4th place. But
I think they would have to release another knock-out demo to
become a real threat to the top.

* NOICE and TABOO enters the charts, while CAMELOT is just
about to move away from the top 10. But with the promise of the
coming blockbusting demo from them, anything could happen..

   10 (-) KINGFISHER/TRIAD 20
* CROSSBOW seems to be a magnet to the charts, and no mat-
ter what he does, or what he does not do, he seems to end up
at the first place anyway. Unfair really, but the charts is
probably the most biased thing in the scene today, the ones
based from voting ofcource..

* GLASNOST has not done anything for a long time, and with
his colleague SLAMMER just about to release a new stunning
demo, he just might get swapped with his group mate.

* Only one new entry this month, KING FISHER/TRIAD. Funny
really, as he has done mostly cracking in his career. But
another example is BACCHUS/FAIRLIGHT, also moving up the
charts aswell. Well, why not!

* OGAMI still unbeatable at the number one spot. Wonder why
really, it has been a while since I saw something from him
lately. Come on OGAMI, show us your skills some more..

* CREEPER moving up on 2nd place, becoming more of a threat
to OGAMI than earlier. Also ELECTRIC has got alot of points,
so it seems to be close race at the top.

* HEIN DESIGN is not active in the demo-scene anymore, nor is
BLACKMAIL for that matter. So why do you still vote for guys
or groups that has not done ZIP in ages. Focus yourselves..

* MIRAGE is on the way out after a long break. CARRION and
ANS are new entries. Not a very convincing TOP 10 though..

not much use, now that he has left the scene long ago..

* THE SYNDROM is the big surprise, moving up 2 places to the
2nd place. He could be looking at a glorious career!!

METAL (ex.BONZAI, CAMELOT) is back in the scene. He joined
REGINA, and we are all looking forward to hearing his swell
tunes ones again..

* GUY SHAVITT quit the 64-scene last month, so there is no
sense voting for him anymore. TDM and ZYRON new entries..
OVERALL COMMENT from the editor.. [Legal charts]

I really think it is about time we made a campaign agains't bad
voters. If we take a close look at the different charts, we
would notice that,

DEMO GROUPS # 1= CREST Unactive!
CODERS # 1 = CROSSBOW/CREST Unactive!
GRAPHICIANS # 1 = OGAMI/FAIRLIGHT Unactive!
MUSICIANS # 1 = JEROEN TEL/PHYZICS Gone!

The same goes for the magazine charts, in which we are still
able to find mags like SHOCK, BRUTAL RECALL, HOTSHOT,
and others, which has been dead for ages. SHAMEFUL!

* No changes in the TOP 5. Still SUCCESS the most popular
group in the voters opinion. ILLUSION keeps the 2nd place,
eventhough they have not had so much luck lately, with all the
inside problems and all.

* RED SECTOR INC., not as popular a cracking group, as they
appear in reality. They have ruled the market for a long time,
with only a few breaks, and still the voters does not seem to
want to budge.

* DOMINATORS has gone PC, so no point in voting for them
any ore. They are not around to appreciate the votes anyway!

* EPIC up 2 places, and TRANCE breaks the ice and enters..

   10 (-) DARKMAN/EXTACY 24

* As the cracking charts, the top remains unchanged. Seems
to me as if the voters has picked some favorites, and then
they keep on voting for them, eventhough they do not see
anything from them. What a disgrace..

* POWERPLANT, XXX, DOC and SAURON, has all been on a long
holiday, and it really kills me to see either of them in the
TOP 10, which should be the home of the ACTIVE crackers..

* THE BURGLAR close to taking over the # 1 spot. Notice the
big gap from the second down to the third place!

* CROSSFIRE moving up, BENSON goes down. DARKMAN is new
in the charts, but the TOP 10 is real tough these days..
OVERALL COMMENT from the editor.. [Illegal charts]

Once again, I must ask the voters to think before voting. It is
not very inspiring reading most of the charts out today, when
you see the unactive ones roaming the charts. The has been,
still seems to be. I choose to blaim it on the mag editors, who
seems to care more about finnishing the charts, rather than
looking at them, and giving them proper comments..

If this is a small problem, then I would have to say the scene
is in a very bad shape. Unfortunately this has been said
before, and nothing worth mentioning has changed. But I hope
the mag editors will listen to this, and do something about it.
Atleast throw away the inproper voted sheets. Go on please..
  + THE SWAPPER CHARTS - NOVEMBER 1993 + [NEW]

As a result of the many swappers-charts around, I decided to
add a new chart, also based on this catagory which is included
in most of the magazines these days..

This time we use a different system though. We take the top
three of every chart, and give 3 points for the 1st placed, and
1 point for the 3rd placed. As a result, we have developed a
TOP 5, of the most popular swappers right now..

As there are so many swappers around today, this would be a
very unstabile chart. But still we came upon the same dudes
in the TOP 10 of the swapper charts. So we decided to do it!

* BIZARRE clearly the most popular swapper available these
days. Also NIGHTSHADE gets a tremendous amount of points.
STARLIGHT is also one of the most popular swappers, but I
fear she is only voted upon because she is a girl. Maybe!?!
THE FINAL PAGE from the editor..

That concludes the first edition of the combined cracking and
demo charts, which we previously had in WORLD OF DEMOS and
MONTHLY RELEASES as two seperate charts. But due to the
amount of text we already serve in both chapters, I decided to
make this new chapter, so you can all enjoy the result as a
whole.

If you have any complaints what so ever, or if you want us to
include your magazine as a source for our charts, feel free
to write me at the address shown in the editorial (preface)..
So until next month, remember to think before putting your
favorite groups down on the vote-sheets.. Signed, The DUKE

Profile

+ THE NOVEMBER PROFILE - CRUZER OF CAMELOT +
     ________________________________________
Welcome to another sparkly edition of PROFILE. This month,
unlike others, we have invited a distinguished person from one
of the best demo groups around. Recently he has been taking
a break from all the glory, and the work that comes along with
it. But soon enough he will re-enter the spotlights together
with his group, with yet another incredible demo already in the
making.

Our guest has made a name of himself using his masterous
skills in coding, which gave him a chance in BONZAI at first,
joining his present group later. We proudly present, the
November Profile, CRUZER of CAMELOT.
[D] Welcome MARTIN. We invited you to join us, because your
group is currently actual because of the coming christmas
party (The Party '93) of yours, not to forget the soon coming
CAMELOT demo, which we have been awaiting for ages. Tell me,
how does it feel to once again be back on the headlines after
a long run of silence from the group?

[C] It is cool to know that CAMELOT is back on the stage, but
I am afraid that I will not re-enter the spotlights very much,
since I am not contributing to the demo (sorry fans!!!)..

[D] But indirectly you are ofcource a part of the whole show,
given that you are a CAMELOT member. As I said in the intro-
duction, you have distinguished yourself as one of the best
coders in the scene today. Please tell us a little about your-
self, and how you ended up in CAMELOT!

[C] It all began back in 1984 where me and the crew cruised
around in the city on our BMX-freestylers, breakdancing and
painting graffity. Later on I got interested in computers, and
started to make demos. In 1990 I joined DEMOTION, and the
first creations from me was released in "The New Style". In
the summer 1991, several groups asked SLAMMER and me to
join (I think you was one of them, DUKE! When you were running
DOMINATORS DESIGN in your time in DOMINATORS!). The first
ones were BONZAI, but after some months we finally got con-
tacted by CAMELOT, and ofcource we said YES to join them!

[D] Well CRUZER, my offer still stands, heh. Do you somehow
feel responsible when it comes to inventing new rutines on the
Commodore 64, as one of the leading demo groups around?

[C] Sometimes I feel a bit responsible when I get a new idea
and get to think that if I do not make that routine, it might
not ever be done by anyone else!

[D] It kind of makes you wonder, how many routines is lost for
the scene, because of the departure of a coder like KJER!
CAMELOT has signed their name on the HERNING party this
year. What does it take to organize such a party, and why do
you think there are so few of them these days?

[C] For the main organizers, it takes alot of time, money and
all that. But we in CAMELOT are only taking care of what has
to do with the C64, which means sending out invitations and
arranging competitions and the CULT-DEMO show. It is a shame
that there are so few small parties. Nowadays all the parties
have to be bigger than the one before, and it is no wonder that
they cannot all live up to the expections..

[D] The only way is up they say! But I do agree it is a shame
that the small parties has totally vanished, so let us use this
opportunity to encourage everyone to hold some more parties!
CAMELOT will be releasing a blockbusting demo at the party, is
there any chance you might reveal some of its secrets?

[C] The demo is called "TOWER POWER" ("STROKE TWO"), and
it is coded by SLAMMER. It will be the first REAL trackmo on
the C64, and at the moment it takes about 10 minutes. All the
routines are ofcource new inventions on the C64, and besides
this it includes alot of graphics from KRING, VIC and ROB
(WAVE) and finally music by JEFF. SLAMMER has made the
demo for two reasons : To win the PARTY 1993, and to get
higher than me on the charts!

[D] Hah, nothing like have a good source for motivation! But
I hope you will meet some competition anyway. Nothing sucks
more than a competition, where the winner has already been
picked before the voting begins. Do not forget REGINA will
be there to BE that competition (heh). CAMELOT has been
away from the scene for a while, maybe due to laziness from
the members. Howcome it takes so long for you to produce a
demo, when you have so many talented coders in the group?

[C] Because of laziness, and because we prefer quality
instead of speed.

[D] Good answer I guess, except for the laziness part (BUUH).
REVEALED was just released two months ago, and it became
rather popular in the scene, primarily because of the stunning
design. Now we have been eagerly awating another edition, but
sofar it has not showed up. Do you think laziness, or delays
if you will, is the general problem in CAMELOT?

[C] I think it is okay that you are not thrown out because of
laziness, because then I (and alot of other Camels) would have
got the kick a long time ago.

[D] Atleast you are all agree to this, that is good. Atleast
you will not get into arguments like it is seen in other groups
before. How does the current memberstatus of CAMELOT look
like, and how does it operate in terms of the leadership?

[C] I do not really know the exact memberstatus, but according
to SLAMMER's memberstatus-part in TOWER POWER, it looks
like: GLASNOST, ROB, SLAMMER, KRING, CRUZER, JEFF, VIC,
NEPTUNE, NIGEL, DUCK LA ROCK, REX, RAZ, SCULPTURE,
FLEXI, SPHINX, DAN DARE and TRIX. GLASNOST is the
"leader" of CAMELOT, I guess!

[D] We have yet to see a new demo from you. When do you think
we can expect to see something from you, or have you already
been working on some ideas maybe?

[C] I have worked on a lot of (mostly softcoded) routines
after "PRODUKTHANDLER KOM HER" was released, so there
should soon be enough for a little demo, but I will not set any
date yet!

[D] We wait with great anticipation till you put something
together into a demo. What groups, in your opinion, are the
best demo groups around today and why?
[C] I think BRUTAL, CREST, ELYSIUM, GRAFFITY, HORIZON
and VISUAL REALITY have made some rather cult demos lately,
because they have managed to create some new inventions
which are styled and looks cool!

[D] HORIZON? How do you think the demo scene will develope
in the future?

[C] I do not think the C64 will die within the next few years,
because after all, this is the ORIGINAL demo scene, and the
C64 has the "magic" that is lost on the other computers.
Therefore many earlier C64-freaks are still interested in
what is going on in this scene, and some are even coming back
to the C64. I just hope that the competition would come back,
because that would encourage people to put more effort in the
demos.

[D] Absolutely! What are your future plans concerning your
activities in the scene?

[C] I hope to release another demo before the C64 is dead, and
I also hope that I will just be able to realize atleast 2,7% of
the ideas I have.

[D] If the scene has a couple of years more to go, which I
believe that it does, then you have more than enough time to
go on with. Do you know what the future plans of CAMELOT is
then?
[C] Some of the members are moving over to PC (SLAMMER,
VIC, SPHINX and maybe some more), and the future plans of the
rest of CAMELOT is just to be lazy I think. But we will not
quit the C64 yet!

[D] Uuuh, not that PC word again. It gives me the creeps! You
guys really starts reminding me of the Mexicans, just lying
beside their house with a hat on, sleeping 75% of the year!?!
Would you like to send any regards to some of your friends or
contacts maybe?

[C] Regards to all CAMELOT-camels, all dudes from my earlier
groups (TECPOINT, DEMOTION and BONZAI) and to all contacts
friends, my family, my cat, my turtle and to all forgotten ones
(this sounds like something from a local radio!)

[D] Would it by any chance be PLADDERBALLE RADIO? Ehrm!
THANK YOU for taking the time to do this interview CRUZER!

[C] Sorry for the short answers, but I had time problems! Any-
way, thanks for asking me BEFORE you mailed the interview!

[D] Would not have it any other way...

That is our PROFILE chapter for this month. I hope you have
enjoyed it, as always. You will be able to meet CRUZER on THE
PARTY 1993. Do not forget to read our exclusive article about
the C64 presentation at THE PARTY 1993. Stay with us, DUKE!

Special assignment

        + SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT - COMING PARTIES +
        ___________________________________
Welcome to the November edition of your favorite debate and
information chapter- Special Assignment.

This month we will take a close look at two of the coming 64
parties, respectively THE PARTY '93 and RADWAR V7, both of
them just announced. Eventhough THE PARTY '93 was already
made puplic by the Amiga arrangers, the 64 invitation did not
get spread until this month. We chose to wait till that one was
made official, to g ve you the complete C64 program.

So we have another full program for you this month, so lean
back and enjoy what is coming to you. General Editor is DUKE!
           "THE PARTY 1993" by CAMELOT

Once again CAMELOT does a tremendous effort to include the
64 in the Amiga and PC arrangements. This party just as stun-
ning as the earlier series, and the facilities are numerous.

The partyplace is situated at Scandinavias largest conferen-
ce center, Messecenter Herning. The place can hold up to
3000 persons, so there is more than room enough for you to
bring that girl of yours, or the shy group-mate that does not
want to impose.

The party starts on Monday the 27th of December at 10:00
CET, and goes on till Wednesday the 29th at 15:00 CET.
Here is a run-down of the facilities:

- Room for atleast 3000 persons.
- 600 x 400 cm. screen.
- Powerful HI-FI sound.
- News, movies etc. will be send at the party TV-channel.
- 24 hour laserdisk movieroom.
- Two cafeterias, a kiosk and a hotdog stand, will supply food
   at low prices.
- Proffesional cleaning company and electrician.
- Good toilet facilities with more than 25 showers.
- 24 hour entertainment.
- Quiet sleeping hall, but you can sleep where you want.
- Brand new KYLL/BALLE video production.
The CULT C64 SHOW!
On the first day of the party will be held a show of new and
old demos, that has ment something to the C64-scene. But
since their demo collection is not perfect, you are welcome
to bring a disk with your favorite CULT-demos, and if they are
cult'n'cool enough, we will show them.

The COMPETITION
There will be competitions on Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, PC and
ofcource on the C64. Besides this, will be held some crazy
surprises competitions. The result of the competitions will be
determined by voting from the audience. This way there will be
no cheating. Unless the competitors and their friends vote for
the worst demos, to ensure the competition less votes!
The deadlines for each competition will be puplished at the
party!

PRICES (In Danish currency).

not play any music that follows with the picture.

These are the rules to go by in each of the competitions. We
hope it has been made clear, otherwise ask CAMELOT.
PLEASE NOTICE THAT...
- CAMELOT will not accept anybody selling food or disks with-
   out their permission.
- Alcohol is not allowed at the party place.
- Trouble makers will be handed over to the police.
- People who cause any damage will ofcource have to pay for it.

THE PULSE MAGAZINE about the party:
We think the organization is good, granted that it is an Amiga
and PC party. But it is obvious that the Amiga and PC groups
involved has very little respect for our dear computer, when
they offer such embarrasing prices in the competition. Please
notice that CAMELOT had no obtion but to accept, it was
either that, or just 2$ dollars for every C64 person that would
show up, and history tells us, that the 64 freaks are very few
at these types of parties, so CAMELOT went with the offer.
Otherwise everything seems promising, and we hope that every
dude with a sense of self-respect, will show up at this party
to heil the C64 and the scene we are so proud of. It would be
embarrasing, if only a few hundred showed up, just think of
what the Lamiga and PC dudes would say? So do not be antiso-
cial, meet up at the party.

Worth to mention, is that THE PULSE MAGAZINE will be situa-
ted there aswell. We will open a stand, in which you can leave
any kind of contributions (news, etc) for the mag. We will do a
complete coverage of the party, and the New Years edition will
also be released at THE PARTY 1993. It will be mindblasting!!

party, that is sure to keep the promise of a REAL party.

The Rainbow Party is also known as RADWAY V7. This time it is
held by RADWAR ENTERPRISES, SPREADPOINT and TRISTAR
and RSI (TRSI).

It will all be situated at the Discotheque "Chez Renzo". The
place can hold up to 800 people, so room is no object here
either. It will give you a perfect oppertunity to meet some of
the oldies that founded the scene lightyears ago.

It will take place in GERMANY in January 1994. Three dates
were mentioned, 15/16th, 22/23th or 30/31st.

Here is a round-up of some of the activities that will take
place at the party:

- Only cool guys will show up, no kids.
- Big disco with fab HIFI equipment to guarantee perfect
   sound.
- Drinking is allowed, heavily is more allowed.
- A professional barkeeper is available 24 hours a day to
ensure your glasses will not be empty. Bacardi, Tequila,
Whisky, Beer and many other drinks will be available.
- 24 bit colour paddy t-shirts, no lame black/white ones.
- People who cannot behave themselves, will get MORE beer
   until they CAN.
- The arrangers take no responsibility for killing lawyers or
  organizers.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON
- Indoor soccer Tournament (your team can win the RADWAR
   challenge trophy!)
- Big barbecue after the match.

SATURDAY EVENING
- Drinking and drinking.
- Graffiti wall for freaks, artists, handicapped persons.
- Alcohol is highly recommented to drink, DO NOT waste it.
- Bulletin board at the entrance, to contact anyone.
- There will be security cameras all over the place. Say
"cheese" and you will maybe get a cool copy of that tape for
   a good price.
- Talent scouts of major companies are looking for (maybe)
you. Be discovered, and get famous and rich.
- C64, Amiga, PC, SNES, and MEGA DRIVE demo and sound com-
petitions. All demos will be shown on a big cinema wall.
- More beer.
- Videos from the past great history of the Radwar parties
will be shown, featuring DYNAMIC DUO, HEADBANGER, MR.
ZERO PAGE, THE LIGHT CIRCLE, FAC, FLASH CRACKING
   GROUP, etc..
- Even more beer.
- Legends from the past meet the "newcomers".
- Guest star : F.G.v.G, live and alive.
- No seperate hall for sleeping.

SUNDAY
- In the morning get rid of the next barrels of beer to get
   some new ones.
- Breakfast with coffee and rolls.
- Beer.
- Going home.

THE PULSE MAGAZINE, about the party:
This is not the BIGGEST computer party, but seems to be the
(by far) biggest beer party. This gives you a chance for losing
all the problems, and go beer and party with your scene-mates.
The arrangements sounds cool, would not mind seeing the
demos on the cinema screen myself (just like on the HORIZON
party, awesome). We can only recommend it, but if you are
planning on going through the party without going through a
few bottles of Whisky, maybe you better stay at home!?!

THE PULSE MAGAZINE will also be there, so a detailed report
about the party will be made aswell (make sure not to do any-
thing foolish, we ESPECIALLY like writing about that).

If you want to know more about this party, call the VOICE INFO
line, at: ++XX-XXX-XXXXXX (International), or dial XXXX-XXXXXX
(National). The location is coming up on the following page!
The party will take place at, (located near the dutch border)

And that is all for this SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT. We hope you
have got the information you needed, so you will be at one of
these parties like the rest of us.

Next month we will pick up a new TOPIC, so be sure to read it
when THE PULSE MAGAZINE comes out again. /The DUKE
