TALES OF THE CREST
HAPPY NEW YEAR! ----------------------------- - THE CREST MAGAZINE staff collectively wishes a happy new year to everyone who supported us in the past and of course to all our readers!! I hope that you'll support us also this year as good as you can. Without you this magazine wouldn't have become such a huge success.... THANKS A LOT! THE CREST --1998-- ---- ---- ---- ----- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- ----- ----- ----- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- ---- ---- ---- ----- - JANUARY EDITION - ----------------------- (c) 1998 by INDEPENDENT THE JANUARY PREFACE - ------------- - Welcome to the january edition of THE CREST! Your favourite monthly released magazine.................. This edition should be the best and largest one in the young history of this magazine! And with this edition also some critics finally should be satisfied, eh ?! Atleast the most of them! So, now that it's 7 months ago since the very first issue of this magazine was released, we think that it's time to tell you how it all started off.. But don't believe everything that you get to read in the following story. We don't take any responsibility for eventually appearing nightmares after reading this -our- story.. 8) THE CREST MAGAZINE TALE -------------------------- This is the 7th issue of this still quite young maga- zine. But how and why did it come that we decided to give birth to another magazine into the rough but also harmonic family of the 8-bit lunacy?!? I'll try to give you all the details that my memory still serves..... THE STORY!...... ---------------- In a hot summernight back in 1996 I had a strange dream.... A mysterious figure said to me in a dark.., uncomfortable voice: "You gotta do it!".....What?" I asked with a frightened, nearly for mercy begging voice.. The mysterious figure replied: "Do the ultimate magazine together with your best scene- friends!"..."The ultimate magazine?" I asked again in that frightened voice... "YEAH, a magazine that gets released every month and that has to be INDEPENDENT and objective in any way!..." Next morning I said to myself: "Ha, what a crazy dream!" but things got even stranger.... A couple of hours later I got a call from DODGER/DYTEC.... He told about his dream and that HARDSEQUENCER/DYTEC also had the same one. "STOP FOOLING AROUND!" I said and told him about my dream.. After some weeks I got a strange sending with a strange message in form of a transparent, of class consisting disc. (.) My drive was absolutely going crazy, when I tried to load the directory. Again and again I got an error message... But suddenly the screen cleared by him- self and there got written with huge letters: "TYPE IN THE 8 MAGIC LETTERS!"...which 8 letters were meant? After about thousand tries I accidently typed in a strange sequence of letters... So, after I typed in "THE CREST" I got to see some kind of "Texteditor"...And there was written that this one was coded by DODGER ...(this was really a suprise to me!)... So, maybe it was DODGER, who spoke to me in my dream? And was I the mysterious voice that spoke to DODGER in his dream?..But who the hell was then the one that spoke to HARDSEQUENCER in his dream? Really strange happenings!!! After trying out this supernatural texteditor, that somehow had landed in my postbox, there happened many strange things within the next few weeks.... In a short period of time I got 2-3 more packages with extremely strange stuff..... Everyhing was coded by DODGER, crossed with graphics by HARDSEQUENCER and me.. After the project getting clearer shapes, we started editing texts for the premier edition!... In May 1997 it seemed that we could give birth to the very first issue in June 1997.. But we had some tremendous problems.... To be exact: TREMENDOUS TIME PROBLEMS! So we decided to put the release date again to the next month (July'97). But in the follow- ing night we got again visited by this mysterious figure in our dreams! It said with it's deep, croaking voice: "I'll give you a last deadline! If you don't get it managed to release the very first issue till...... ..August, then your beloved 8-bit machines will burn in hell!. So I couldn't sleep all night and called DODGER immediatly to tell him about my dream and it's consequences... But he and HARDSEQUENCER also had this dream! Everyone of us worked like hell the next few days... The texts flew into the c64's memory just like by the hands of a ghost. After lots of days of pressure we were proud to release our premier edition!... And that was dated in July 1997! Since then we neverever again were haunted by that mysterious figure.. Our beloved computers were saved of the hell's flames.. Thank god, it's all done now, we said to ourselves. But had we really passed all of it with the release of the very first edition? The quest continues... MAGAZINE NEWS ------------- - Finally we found someone, who'll report about the american-scene. He lives near New York City and is a member of one of the currently most active american-groups... Yeah of course we are talking about no one less than the, in the demo and board scene wellknown, UZZY of RPG! Welcome to the staff! Concerning any other aspects, the staff hasn't changed compared to the former issues. But of course MIDFIT/LEGEND isn't any longer a part of us, as we kicked him last month.... Well, guess it's time for some magazine informations! >THE CREST< HOUSE-STAFF >THE CREST< - ------------------------------------- - HARDSEQUENCER/DYTEC...... main editor DODGER/DYTEC............. main editor DANZIG/ALPHA FLIGHT...... co editor MITCH/CREST.............. audial reviewing UZZY/RPG................. us-corres. Let's hope that this year (1998) will bring us more releases from both parts of the scene (legal and illegal) than the last one. Also the action on the major euro/us boards could be better... So, all of you who waste their ...... time in the Internet and preach that there aren't any possibilities left to call out. I can only say: Try to find new ways to call out for free! The boards are just a part of the scene as well as cracks, demos or whatever.... SCENE SPOTLIGHTER
_______________________________________ SCENE SPOTLIGHTER -- ----------- -- Welcome to one of the most popular chapters in today's magscene. It's also the first NEWS chapter in THE CREST in the new year 1998. As expected there happened a quite nice newsflash short before and after Christmas time. There happened some really surprising things in the last month of 1997 and in the beginning of 1998! To be sure that all news from your group can be -- ---------------------------------------------- -- mentioned in this chapter, we need your help. You can get in touch with us through all well-known media-ways or on the major us-baorrds. Just try HARDSEQUENCER's address: XXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXX XXXXX XXX XXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXXX Or E-mail him at: DYTEC(at)HOTMAIL.COM Would be nice to hear something concerning news from some more guys... SHOK'RAY/MSP ------------------- ALPHAFLIGHT 1970 [ger, hol, us....] -- ----------------------------------------------- -- New members: SKID ROW, ANCIENT MARINER Gone ones..: - Boards.....: THE EVIL ISLAND +X-XXX-XXX-XXXX WHQ ESCAPADE +XX-XXXX-XXXXXX EHQ ANTIDOTE +XX-XXX-XXXXX SHQ ANCIENT MARINER returned to the scene and put his board online again. So finally they got with THE EVIL ISLAND again a WHQ in the States. SKID ROW, who recently left the F4CG posse, returned to his old friends in AFL. Memberstatus: ---------------- ALG, ANCIENT MARINER, ARCHANGEL, ARGOS, BALDHEAD, CALEDONIAN, CHASH, CHRYSAGON, DANZIG, ECO, GOLDHAND, IGNORANCE, LYNCHBIT, MAD HATTER, MARC, NED, RAYDEN, SKID ROW, STYX, THe HERETIC, VIOLATOR, WIZARD, XENOX, ZAPOTEK, ZATT FAIRLIGHT [swe, den, ger....] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- New members: CROSSFIRE, DRUID, DUKE, GOAT, L. A. STYLE, MENDRAKE, SUN DANCER Gone ones....: GUM, HOLLOWMAN, LOGGER, ROOSTER, WIGGEN, BACCHUS Boards.........: THE DRAGONS TOWER +XX-XXXX-XXXXXXX EHQ THE HIDDEN +XX-XXXX-XXXX GHQ This legendary group went through really massive changes within the last four/five weeks. First of all DUKE came together with SUN DANCER, who left SCS +TRC, to take over the leadership in FLT. So, DUKE is now the leader of the group and SUN DANCER the leader of the legal section. CROSSFIRE came from MOTIV8 came to enlarge their illegal section and take over the leadership there. All three together they already managed to release the very first issue of their magazine SCENE+, which was released on the first day in 1998 and seems to be a sequel to the old THE PULSE magazine. Later also other guys from MOTIV8 (GOAT, MENDRAKE and L. A. STYLE) came to FLT. L. A. STYLE put his board THE HIDDEN online again, which works as german headquarter for the group. Old but gold cracker BACCHUS decided to want to be deleted from the active memberstatus and gave the leadership over to DUKE, who then made his first decisions and kicked out the former guys from ALTER called GUM, HOLLOWMAN, ROOSTER and WIGGEN, even though they joined the crew just only one month ago. LOGGER, who was ment to stay in FLT, decided to leave the group again due to some problems with DUKE. Also DRUID decided to join FLT as his 2nd group, after he left his former 2nd one CHROMANCE. There are rumours going around that DEEKAY might join FLT as 2nd group after he left ONSLAUGHT. But nothing is sure until now. . But with BA and GIPSY they got also some fresh blood. GIPSY is an american supplier and he'll usually work together with their american cracker FUNGUS. B.A. is an older cracker who returned some time ago. Btw, last month we wrote that SKID ROW was kicked out of F4CG. That was wrong.. He left by his own decision! JACK ALIEN left the legendary HITMEN to concentrate on REMEMBER only. There are rumours around saying thay INTRUDER had left F4CG to join HITMEN, but that's wrong! STYLE FTP-Site...: MOUNT TOKAY woland.iit.uni-miskolc.hu December 1997 was one of the worst months ever in M8 history. Their most important members, CROSSFIRE, MENDRAKE, GOAT and L. A. STYLE, left the group for FAIRLIGHT. So, the future of MOTIV8 isn't sure yet. Maybe the members that stayed can get new strength again, but that is very doubtful. And as there wasn't confirmed an official memberstatus after these massive changed, we decided not to print one here... ONSLAUGHT [oz, ger, us..........] -- --------------------------------------------- -- New members: NAPHALM Gone ones..: DEEKAY, DIGAHOLE, HOMEBOY, INSANE, TEKTRONICS Boards.......: DEADZONE +X-XXX-XXX-XXXX WHQ SANITARIUM +XX-XXXXX-XXXX EHQ FTP-Site.......: GANGSTA'S PARADISE ftp.inf.bme.hu/c64/pub First of all they got NAPHALM/SCORN/ASCRAEUS to join them as first group as coder, graphician and cracker. DIGAHOLE, HOMEBOY, INSANE and TEKTRONICS were put on the inactive status. DEEKAY left the posse to join the forces of FAIRLIGHT as his new second group. Btw, it's said that they will get a new member from the UK. His handle will be announced soon. OVERSEA SCENE REPORT
OVERSEA SCENE REPORT -------------------- - The new year, unfortunatley, appears to be a rather slow time for the American demo scene. Nevertheless, some interesting pieces of news have floated across this newsdesk, and will be chronic- called here. The majority of this information was taken from the web. and is as accurate as I can make it without actually being in the same room with every NTSC scener in existence. If there are flaws, wich I hope there aren't, please tolerate, and let me know, so it can be rectified in a future issue. Also if I've missed something, please let me know in advance. My e-mail adress is..... ARTHUR.HELLER(at)ANWCBBS.UU.HOLONET.NET -------------------------------------------- If there is any breaking news pertaining to your group or the scene in general, please let me know so I can write it down here. Now on with the news..... First some VENOM news... ------ 'WSOFT' joined Venom for a while, but then quite for unknown reasons. Also in Venom news, 'GUARDIAN' was booted due to unactivity. ARKANIX LABS. ------------- Arkanix Labs, formerly THRESHOLD PRODUCTIOMS and led by Jon Mines (Skyclad) formally announced recently that as of january first they will no longer support the commodore 64 platform. PSW ---- A newcomer to the scene, 'FUZZ', has joined PSW, proving that there is still some life left to the much disparaged ntsc scene. In RPG news, two new members have joined, 'UBER'.... ---- and 'KEN'. The main project for RPG is still LAZARUS, and it is unlikely that anything will be released until this is completed. The 4K NTSC demo competition has been postponed until january 22, 1998. The original deadline for demos was on december, so this allows nearly a month extra to complete work on competing demos. And planning for an actual NTSC demo-party is pro- gressing lead by PEGASUS/RPG. "NTSC=", as it is referred to, will mark on one of the very few parties ever to be held in the states. Opinions differ as to wether or not it will happen, but hope runs high. UzzY/Renegade Programing Group
RULERS OF THE MONTH
_______________________________________ RULERS OF THE MONTH ----------------- -- Again welcome to the best of the best in the first month of 1998... When counting the charts we recognized that there are still quite a lot of inactive people in the Top 10. So, why are you voting for them?!? Wouldn't it be better to vote for active people in stead to motivate them to do more things??? I guess so... But I guess it will change again soon, because their demo ONE-DER by GRAHAM was really stunning. Also REFLEX and especially SMASH DESIGNS are expected to win some places in the next issues after their demos on THE PARTY 7. THE DECEMBER 1997 LIST
_ _____________________________________ _ THE DECEMBER 1997 LIST! - ------------------------------------- - Welcome to the last RELEASECHARTS in 1997! At the end of the year we had a quite good month again with some really nice releases. At the moment we are thinking about changing the old POINT-SYSTEM (based on the PSYCHOBILLY-SYSTEM) since some groups keep on releasing FAKELABEL- stuff under their normal LABEL. We think that this is a injustice to the groups releasing lame games through their FAKELABELS. The original rules make nearly no difference between lame and good games and this worked well some years ago. But these days groups put out FAKELABEL-stuff to enter the RELEASECHARTS. If we finally change the POINT-SYSTEM, a good game or a game where you had to invest more time and work in the CRACK or FIX will be honoured again. But as I said before we're still thinking about how we'll change the actual SYSTEM, so it may take some more months... . This ISSUE we'll start to include HEADLINE NEWS in this chapter, where we'll report the latest happenings from the passed month! Now skip to the page to enter the HEADLINE NEWS... _ _____________________________________ _ HEADLINE NEWS DECEMBER 1997 - ------------------------------------- - While on THE BASS PLANET and DEADZONE the action was on a quite low level, the action on DUNGEON was really rocking.. . Even after the tollfree-number died in the last dazs of the month, the action was nearly at the same high level. A really surprise was the announcement from ALPHAFLIGHT 1970 that their old WHQ THE EVIL ISLAND come back in the beginning of 1998! There are also rumours around that the old TALENT- WHQ DOWN BY LAW could make a comeback in 1998, since MORRISEY showed interest in a comeback on the good old 64. . We'll see what happens... ! That was all for DECEMBER, now let's go on with the RELEASELIST... . The BOARDS used to make this LIST are: THE DUNGEON : +X-XXX-XXX-XXXX THE BASS PLANET : +X-XXX-XXX-XXXX DEADZONE : +X-XXX-XXX-XXXX Now let's take a closer look at the games released last month... . ALPHAFLIGHT 1970 (ger, usa, swe...) 6,6 points ------------------------------------------------------- The FLIGHT had an really succesfull month, with releasing 2 full games. First they put out the fixed version of STROKE WORLD (3,4 points) from GO64. Since their version was not loading the endsequence and they forgot to fix the endmonster-code I gave -1 point! Later they released the fixed and now really working version of GIRLTRIS (3,2 points) from EAGLEWARE. Last month I gave CHROMANCE the points for GIRLTRIS but I forgot to check the game-intro. It was usually running PAL/NSTC, but they fucked it up on NTSC. But with ALPHAFLIGHT putting out this version they lost the points for the game anyway... . DYNAMIC TECHNOLOGIES (ger) 11,2 points ------------------------------------------------------- The germans in DYNAMIC TECHNOLOGIES made a small comeback in the world of FIRSTRELEASES with putting out 2 games. The first one called R - THE ULTIMATE JOYSTICK KILLER (3,4 points) by MAGNA MEDIA was put out in the first days of december. The game was already running PAL/NSTC, so no fixing-points for this one.. . At the end of december they put out the german fullpricer BOMBMANIA (7,8 points) from CLASSICAL GAMES as fixed version. FAIRLIGHT (ger, den, swe..) 2,2points ------------------------------------------------------- Their new build-up cracking-section showed some activity with releasing some really crappy stuff. First they put out the PAL-version of BLACK KNIGHT (2,1 points) from TIMSOFT. Later they put out the 2nd PREVIEW of DELTA MISSION (0,1 points). FANTASTIC 4 CRACKING GROUP (swe, bel..) 6,3 points ------------------------------------------------------- The guys in F4Cg were also quite active last month. First they fixed the quite nice SUPER PACMAN (4,4 points) for WOW+ROLE and could gain half of the points for it. Then they put out the fixed version of a very very lame game named CLOUX (4,1 points). ONSLAUGHT (aut, tur, usa.) 4,2 points ------------------------------------------------------- The guys in ONSLAUGHT also released some worse stuff last month. First the fixed version of THREESTONE (4,1 points) made it to the boards. Later the PREVIEW of SPHERIX (0,1 points) followed! SUCCESS+THE RULING COMPANY (usa, hol....) 0,6 points ------------------------------------------------------- The dutch coop put out the promising PREVIEW of BOOMBASTIC BENNY (0,6 points) WOW+ROLE (hol, ger, ita...) 2,2 points ------------------------------------------------------- They could gain some points with releasing SUPER PACMAN (4,4 points) which was fixed by F4CG. Following the rules they got half of the points.. . That was all for the last month in 1997! Let's see who made it to the top-spot... . RELEASECHARTS DECEMBER 1997 ------------------------------- PLACE GROUP POINTS RELEASES ------------------------------------------------------- 1 DYNNAMIC TECHNOLOGIES 11,2 2 2 ALPHAFLIGHT 1970 6,6 2 3 FANT. 4 CRACKING GROUP 6,3 2 4 ONSLAUGHT 4,2 2 5 WOW+ROLE 2,2 1 5 FAIRLIGHT 2,2 2 7 SUCCESS+TRC 0,6 1 A quite long list compared with the months before. SCAPEGOAT - PROFILE
--------------------------------------- JANUARY-PROFILE - ---------- - Hello, and welcome to this popular chapter... as always we try to give you a deeper insight into the history of a wellknown person. The Crest Magazine is proud to present to you: SCAPEGOAT/TOPAZ BEERLINE -------------------------- - ------------------------------------------- - [c]: THE CREST [s]: SCAPEGOAT/TOPAZ BEERL. [c]: Hi there SCAPEGOAT! Nice to have you here in this popular chapter. First of all, tell us and our readers something your person in general.... [s]: Well, my real-name is Sami, or "SKAPE" to most of my friends (shortened from SCAPE- GOAT!). I was born on 5th of February 1972, which makes me almost 26 years old. Mentally I am still 15 years old, I suppose. My daily routine consists of doing things with computers, listening to music (now.. ..don't play me that average mainstream MTV stuff, please), reading books, watching TV and all those other everyday boring stuff Of course, doing things with my friends mean [s]: .a lot, and a lot of my friends I have met in the c64 scene (hell, Electric, Barfly and Knight (EXTEND) have moved to the same suburb where I moved - I luv it) :) I have been in schools enough to be called a some kind of an technician (but that's another story, right). Currently I work at a company which developes software for physiotherapists (could use a bit bigger... ..salary).... [c]: Damn, that's what I call a proper desciption! Starting at the very beginning... How and when did you get your beloved 8 bit machine , also why ? [s]: My father bought the first c64 in the 80'ies when the first c64 arrived to Finland. At that time I was just playing games (those two :)) and wondering about basic. Then in 1986-87 I went to a so-called "Computer - -Camp" somewhere in Finland, and formed my first group (well.) with two other boys. My first demo or demopart was done with machine language in 1987!. Then later several groups came and went and from 1990 I have been a member (founder) of TOPAZ. (you can check my version of the TOPAZ.... history at URL.... HTTP://www.sci.fi/-skape ------------------------ [c]: How did you get into this mysterious 8-bit scene-world ? [s]: I guess I could say with STUDIO 3 (check the homepage) but I would like to say it was TOPAZ in 1990. I did not start swapping until 199? (hell, I can't remember that!) but did that a couple of years before I ran out of money (I am proud to say that I never used cheated stamps!). [c]: Yeah, cheating stamps suxx...! What the hell, made you to start coding..? Why didn't you become an artist or cracker? [s]: Iguess I just have always likedthe ideathat [s]: ...I can tell the computer to do the things I want it to do instead of it taking control of me (by making me play those nasty games) I have never been so musically skilled that I could have started to compose, and I guess I felt more like home with coding instead of drawing graphics....! [c]: Let's slip deeper into your history world... Who were the very first buddies, you got to know and which were the first groups, you... joined ? [s]: First group was THREE GENIUS BOYS. The other guys in that group were HUNTTI (=slang word for 100 finish marks) and a guy who called [s]: himself JAMES BOND 2 (Mixer/Origo).. [c]: What happened after THE GENIUS BOYS died.. wich groups you joined later on, and what was your task to provide them? [s]: THE POWER DIVISION (Division of Power), ALBION (the original Finnish one!! this group released many demos!), STUDIO 3, TOPAZ... (Beerline). All those groups are/were demo- groups, except the first one (The Genius Boys), we did not have so much contacts back then. I have always been a coder, so that's what atleast should I have been doing for the groups..8) [c]: ..and who belongs to your idols concerning demo coding or demo style on c64? [s]: Ah, this is a hard one. Let me think..... There's diffrent sides to this you know.... I tend to keep on loving those certain demos which I grew up with, like METAL BAR2 and EYE OF THE TIGER/FCG etc... I think I could say that I have enjoyed the demos from PANORAMIC DESIGNS, CREST, FLASH INC, CENSOR, CONTEX and ORIGO to name a few. Some demos are not so 'stylish' but have some other things to give me a kick. I would like to include a lot longer list but then the list would be a very long one....8-] Just to make a point: I am into..... [s]: ..classic demo style, I am not quite happy to see a demo that looks good on the compo screen but is not meant to be shown on the standart c64 screen, no matter how good that demo is. I don't have a 5x5 meter screen at home, goddammit! :) [c]: That's right! ...but unlike most groups likes more , to amuze Pc-freaks instead of their own scene-freaks... Well, back to the present. what can we expect from you and your group in the future? [s]: Hmmm....to finish some projects that I have with ELECTRIC and THOR (some of those.... [s]: ..ppl at irc *c-64 knows what I am talking about). I have been lazy doing FRESH'N'STICKY but I am hoping to get issue 8 out someday as I do have written material for it. It either will be a online version, or the c64 version, depends of the time I have for such things in my real life. We are still positive to get a demo from us out, but I would not start do wait for it.. It has been a long time since our last major demo, so why not to waste another week doing nothing..;) When you grow up, you notice that you do not always have so much time to do those things you would like to.... Hmmm...if everthing else fails, the official [s]: 8th TOPAZ BEERLINE summermeeting will be held in summer of 1998 (TBB: bring a port- able lake with you, hehe) [c]: Sounds good to all Demo-lovers... By the way: How did you get your very own Handle ? [s]: It was in 1987 (or something) when MIXER, CRONY, DESTINO (all from ORIGO DREAMLINE) and me were having THE POWER DEVISION/ DIVISION OF POWER meeting at Iisalmi at CRONY'S place (well, most of the people present did have a diffrent handle back then, didn't we?). MIXER was coding some- thing, but it kept buggin'. So, he told me... [s]: ...that it all was my fault -many times: well.... I took the dictionary and found "SCAPEGOAT" from it. And so it was done. [c]: Concerning coding.... Do you more like to take demo effects from the big brothers like Amiga or Peecee and trying them on cbm64... or are you more like a good old rastercoder? [s]: I would say that an original idea is always the best. I mean, eventough if the routine is first on _c64_, I would still choose the original idea. Basically the idea in trans- porting stuff from Amiga or Pc is challeng- ing because the same thing needs to be done with less memory and processor power. [c]: Yeah, a lot of our readers will agree..... In wich demopart you spent the most time ever ? [s]: Hmmmm.... I haven't done that many demoparts that were published. I think I'd rather say that some of the demoparts that were published in "slagger/Albion" (the last Albion demo and hopefully not that wide- spreaded :)) .some of those demoparts took a lot of time to do basically because of the lack of experience in coding. [c]: Is there any special technique you use when coding your great demoparts? [s]: Hmmm... listen to good music and have a couple of beers. A great atmosphere makes great results (try that with your 2-4 year old cousins running around the house and screaming in your ear and you get what I mean:)). [c]: SCAPEGOAT FAVOURITES..... [s]: CODERS: D'Arc, Barfly, Unifier, BX, Mr.Sex, Bob, Crossbow.. ARTISTS: Electric, Junkie... COMPOSER: Rob Hubbard, Tim Follin, AMJ, TBB Benn Daglish, HTD, JT, Zardax.... [s]: DEMO GROUPS: Crest, Censor, Extend, Origo, FHI, Camelot, BF, Byterapers, Fairlight, Panoramic, Crazy... DEMOS: Metal bar 2, Eye of the Tiger/FCG ..(there are to many!..) TOOLS: Turbo Assembler... CRACKING GROUPS: Ikari+Talent, Fusion, 3ad, Papillions...... MAGAZINES: Script.... (sorry, I haven't been reading the magazines for a while) [c]: SCAPEGOAT's real life FAVOURITES.... [s]: Another hard one....ouch..Ok, I use my liberty to write down whoever I like. Again ..this is not a complete list.:) FOOD: That garlic thing that D'ARC gave me a recipe to, junk meal.(see our recipes in our homepage for inter- resting meals) 8) DRINKS: Water and Milk (when eating), Beer (when drinking ;) Booze'n'stuff (when at our summermeeting!) GIRLS: The ones with not-that-bad-looks... [s]: and brains. Long hair and a beautiful smile. is always an additional bonus..=) MUSIC: Me not know the names of the style so here goes... Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Bj, Sepultura, Bad Religion, Pennywise Anthrax, Sod, Mod, Lynyrd Skynyrd Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, AC/DC, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, No - Doubt, Waltari, Misfits, Metallica, Nirvana, Enigma, Lords of Acid, Therapy, Rage against the Machine White Zombie, Iron Maiden (the - older stuff) Offspring, Megadeath Dead Kennedys, Elekeleiset, (.) [s]: MUSIC: Blubberheads.. to name a few :) I guess this gives you an idea. basically everthing I think sounds good. [c]: What a large music-list!..Crazy.. Back to the past and present... Have you ever had some kind of war ? [s]: No, we are so cute =) I think we never had a reason for that, or atleast had the sense to try diplomacy first and go to kill only if the public relations acts failed.... 8) Of course, there were a couple of time when we had to release so called (..) [s]: ..."CORRECTION" demos (1-3) just to publicly anounce something, correct the wrong accusations and misunderstandings. You know, the standart -PR- stuff.... [c]: What is your opinion concerning Track-demos ..do you like them more than old press-space demos ? [s]: Well, I guess I am into old school but I wouldn't say trackmos are bad. I guess it does not matter if it is a trackmo or not if it sucks :) [c]: Over to some kind of BRAINSTORMING..... What comes into your minds if i say... [s]: DEMOS: love'em CRACKING: a way to do things cheaper. INTERNET: couldn't live wihtout it.... SEX: physical close combat with opposite Sex to move the earth.... ALCOHOL: Koskenkorvan viina (ed..???) DRUGS: no thank you..hehe PARTIES: friends... [c]: and now a trickky question.Who in your eyes is worth being called "ELITE".is there any left ? [s]: Hmmm...a person who is called Elite by others is an Elite, the person who calls.... [s]: ...himself Elite is an asshole! Elite people are those who are respected by number of people; they are friendly, funny, etc.... like a good friend, I suppose. So, if other people like you, they might call you an elite. Usually people expect you to be a member of a major demo/cracking/ music/whatever group for it to be possible to call you an elite, or to be helluva skilled anyway. I think that a person from whom I can see that he/she know what he/she is talking about, eventhough he/she is not a member of a major group or ranked in the top 5 in some charts, could be called Elite. A respectable person, I guess. [c]: What is your advise for young coders, who wants to become as famous as you? [s]: Hell, yes! Never code sober! hehe. well, I don't know. Dare to experiment, and do it with your style. Copying the style from others may get you far, but originalty takes you to the other side of the galaxy. And the most important: Never claim someone else code to be yours. If you add a couple of >nop's< in the original code, it still is not yours. [c]: The end is near...As last point: Feel free to say hello... [s]: When was the last time you hugged your.... [s]: .friend??? :) Cheers to: ADDICT, AUDIOMASTER J, BEAT, D'ARC, HTD, HAWKEYE, RAZORBACK, ELECTRIC, THOR, BARFLY, KNIGHT, DR.ACID, TAPE, WIDE, TBB, ARGON, ZERO, CROM, OPAL, MERCE(nary), BARRACUDA, ZARDAX, MIXER, BX, MR.SEX, SAGE, ZOMBIE, CAZ, TEMPEST....the Freaks at Bingo- kansa!.the people I used to swap with (STARLIGHT, SMILE, INCUBUS, TWIST, WINGO...) And the usual forgotten ones.... Thank you! This took a nice slice of my working.... day to fill. 8) [s]: Visit our HTTP//www.sci.fi/-skape for TOPAZ BEERLINE stuff like news, history, contact info, downloadable releases, recipes, etc.... ANDREAS - PROFILE
_______________________________________ SECOND LEGAL PROFILE -- -------------- -- Again we are sorry for bringing you only two legal profiles and not a legal and an illegal one... But some how we didn't manage this... Sorry! But we hope that you don't care that much, because this second legal profile of the month features a great graphic artist from our machine... It's... >>> ANDREAS of SHAPE <<< Have fun reading this short but nice portrait! -- --------------------------------------------- -- (C): Hi ANDREAS! Nice to have you here for this little smalltalk! As a start, can you please tell us a little bit about yourself in general? (A): My name in XXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXXX, I'm 20 (14. 03. 77) years old. I have just finished my army service and now I'm working in an Internet company (EUnet, which some of you probably have heard of). Besides that I have my own import company where I import PC products such as soundcards, displaycards, cd-rs and stuff. August 1998 I will start my education at Den Polytekniske Hogskole where I will study information technology for three years. (C): So, to have a closer look at your computer career please say, when you got your first C64 and how and when you entered the CBM64 scene! (A): Got my first C64 around 1989 and entered the scene at the end of 1991, I think. How I entered.. Well. I phoned WAX/WOW and he sent me some magz and I replied to some ads and that way I got contacts! (C): Quite usual, I see... And which groups have you been in then? (A): MAITEC, TSR, TSR+WOW, TSR, DYTEC, DYTEC +TRSI and now and forever SHAPE! (And also in KGB and NOWAY as MEGAMASTER.) (C): You are a well known graphic artist on our beloved machine... Why did you become this and not something else like cracker or so? (A): Well.. I started making some logos for WOW and MAITEC and I got pretty good respons. I thought it was fun, but also time demanding... Then after drawing tons of logos for several groups, I made my first fullscreener. I was in the compo at THE PARTY 3 where I ended up on a 27th place or something. Since then I have developed my gfx skills and I think I was among the best when I left. Refer to: BLUE FOREST and some gfx slideshows that have been released later. which I haven't seen myself.. (Glenn has them!) (C): You are in the scene quite a long time now. So, what do you think of today's new school in the scene? Do you more like the spirit of the former days? (A): Dunno.. Haven't been active since 1996... I liked the old school a lot. But some new ones where really talented, too! New swappers and gfx that sucked are lame... (C): And which product that you made something for are you most proud of? (A): My contribution to TRIBUTE 1994 and BLUE FOREST.. BLUE FOREST RULES! (C): Yeah.. It does, hehe! Are there any other artists you respect a lot and you maybe also admire? (A): Lemme see.. I have always liked the gfx of RICHARD of PAMORAMIC, WAVE/VISION (CAMELOT... new name now..) and some others in CAMELOT... Some AGONY dudes (STONE)... (C): Now you are forced to give us your favoutites in every subject, hehe! (A): Demo Group: PANORAMIC DESIGNS, CAMELOT Demo...........: BLUE FOREST Coder..........: TTS and SLAMMER Graphican......: ANDREAS...Hehehe. No... Not sure. Composer.......: JOHANNES BJERREGAARD Cracking Group: ILLUSION Cracker.......: ..Ehhh. Game..........: SKATE OR DIE, SCENARIO, RAINBOW ISLAND, WONDERBOY, BOBLE BUBLE... Disc Magazine..: Not sure... Maybe SKYHIGH? Book...........: Seldom read books. Movie..........: I like many. No favourite. Music..........: THE CURE, GEORGE MICHAEL, JANES ADDICTION, RED HOT CP, PORNO FOR PYROS, VELVET BELLY... (C): Now over to something completely different... What thing in the C64 scene do you like most and maybe think that it's the point that makes the CBM64 scene something special? (A): Friendship.. and showing the C64 off to Amiga and PC dudes... That's cool! Trying to be famous is also fun. It makes one and another doing more and better work. (C): And what did you disklike the most in the scene? (A): Who! AIRWOLF! That fat-schwullen schnitzel! He stole stuff from me at THE PARTY in Denmark! Second: All those lame homemade game maker games! (C): What about some brainstorming now?!? What do you say when I say... (A): Trackmos.: Love'em! Boards...: Not my thang. Phreaking: Cool... Parties..: A lot of nerds in one big place... Like you and me! :) Sex........: 3 days ago... :( Alcohol....: Funny. Internet...: The best thing in the worl. Hehe! Besides other better things..... Hehe! PC......: Great fun and a great machine. (C): Quite interesting... So, SHAPE was and still is a very popular demo group.. can we hope for any products from you in the near future on the CBM64? (A): Yes, of course! GLENN is making a slideshow of my gfx and there have been released different demos and music this year too... (C): K00l! I'm looking forward to that! You already mentioned before that you had some trouble with AIRWOLF. Were there any other guys in the scene that you couldn't get along with? (A): Yeah... On the IRC that nerd from the SHARKS. (C): Aha.. And what do you think of the Internet? Do you think that it is the right future for the CBM64 scene as the mail scene is nearly dead and even the board scene is dying more and more? (A): Yes, no doubt.. Many old sceners pay attention to the C64 on the net.. And stuff is spread on the net aswell.. It's so cool! (C): The time has come.... We reached the end now... So this is now your chance to greet some friends and stuff like that! (A): Long time no see to: DODGER, WAX, KRISTIAN, GLENN, KJELL, BJORN, IBANEZ, MERLIN, BIZ KID, CALYPSO, UOTONOGOOD, STEVE (US), DERBY'RAM, FLI, EAGLE, AUTHENTIC, UL-TOMTEN!, ZYRON, SVEINUNG AFL'70, CAR HUMMIE FREAK from the states IRC and all the others that I have forgotten... (C): Okay.. That's all! Thanx for your time! _______________________ Held by:HARDSEQUENCER/DYTEC on.....:22. 12. 1997 ----------------------------------- ( Return )
CHARTS OF THE YEAR
_______________________________________ CHARTS OF THE YEAR ---------------- -- As 1997 is over we can now bring you the 1997 megacharts! Now finally you can see who were our reader's favourites during the whole last year... Into consideration we took the issues 3 (09'97) to 6 (12'97) of THE CREST. The first two issues we didn't use, because in them we didn't have self counted charts, but megacharts. As this wouldn't give a real objective look, we decided to leave them out, okay?!? And here we go with the very best in 1997! -- ---------------------------------------------- -- THE TOP 10 DEMO GROUPS IN 1997 -- ------------------------ -- >>> 01. CREST..................... (074) __ ___________________________________ __ Comments: ----------- CREST were the clear number one in 1997! And they really deserved it with putting out two k00l demos in a row, which were called KRESTAGE 1 +2 and were of excellent standart, just as CREST productions are used to. Strange, that the places 2 to 4 didn't release anything this year! But I guess they are still so high, because of people still loving their old demos. TABOO should have been a little bit higher. With ALTERED STATES they put out something stunning! -- ------------------------------------------------ -- THE TOP 10 CRACKING GROUPS IN 1997 -- ---------------------------- -- >>> 01. HITMEN are lonely making their rounds on place number 3! This year they proved again that an old reformed group can still be on top nowadays! LAXITY finally established themselves this year. X-BOW was the most active coder in these Top 10, I've got to admit! But he didn't manage it to beat the guy from BYTERAPERS INC.! AEG was the second active coder in these Top 10! The other didn't release anything in 1997! So, I guess AEG deserves this 4th place, even though people have different opinions about his on 4x4 effects based trackmos. -- ------------------------------------------------ -- THE TOP 10 CRACKERS IN 1997 ------------------------ -- >>> 01. A well deserved top spot for him! JOE on the second place although he didn't show any activity, just in contrast to ELECTRIC, who gave great pleasure to our eyes with his fascinating compo-pictures for the ASSEMBLY- and the ZOO-Party. Again we could enjoy some great tunes from them in both KRESTAGE demos. So they reallz deserve the clear lead to the second place with nearly two times more points! DRAX on place 2 and SHOGOON on place 6 both did some musics for the great ALTERED STATES by TABOO. METAL also gained some posivitive attention with releasing his huge collection together with ONSLAUGHT in 1997's summer. -- -------------------------------------------- --

_ _____________________________________ _ RELEASE LIST OF THE YEAR - ------------------------------------- - Hello and welcome to the not that complete RELEASE- LIST for 1997 in THE CREST-MAGAZINE! Since we started the MAGAZINE in JULY 1997, this LIST will only include the months MAY-DECEMBER 1997! I'll make it as compact as possible, so that I don't fill up the whole memory... hehe. . I hope that we loose the interest in this MAGAZINE this year, since I have no interest in doing it again! THE CROWNING EVENT
_______________________________________ THE CROWNING EVENT ----------------- -- Another year is gone and so we want to honour the best sceners in every subject, just the best CODER, CRACKER, DEMO GROUP, CRACKING GROUP, COMPOSER, GRAPHIC ARTIST and DEMO of 1997. These awards mirror the opinion of a bunch of people we asked on the Internet and the opinion of us three main staff members. You might have another opinion. But that's the way life is! Other people other opinions... -- ---------------------------------------------- -- THE BEST DEMO GROUP IN 1997 ------------------------- -- >>> CREST <<< It was really no hard decision, who this should be... Yeah, of course the guys from CREST made it! This year they showed really good activity with releasing KRESTAGE - BACK TO THE ROOTS and KRESTAGE 2 - FOLLOW THE ROOTS in spring within a time period of about one month! These two demos were real highlights in this year's demo scene... And as another kicker at the end of the year they gave KRESTORY, a history demo with old parts from some of their old demos, to the masses. THE BEST CRACKING GROUP IN 1997 -- ------------------------- -- >>> ALPHAFLIGHT 1970<<< Also here it was clear, who will get this award. The guys from ALPHAFLIGHT'70 had a great year with putting out a lot of full game firsties, and not just only previews like most of the other cracking groups. Even though there were some guys, who didn't like AFL's style of cracking and so started the fakelabel URINE against them, they were this year's number 1! The dutch coop SCS + TRC also had a quite good year. THE BEST CODER IN 1997 -- ---------------- -- >>>CROSSBOW of CREST <<< He won with a massive distance! This year was really a year dominated by him! His parts for KRESTAGE 1 + 2 and KRESTORY represent the old school. Especially parts like his FLI-strecher in KRESTAGE 2 really kicked ass. CROSSBOW really deserves this award! Besides him also AEG/SMASH DESIGNS and MR. SEX/BYTERAPERS were often mentioned, even though the second one didn't release anything in 1997. THE BEST CRACKER IN 1997 -- ------------------ -- >>> THE IGNORANCE of ALPHAFLIGHT 1970<<< No doubt, he was the best cracker last year! His releases always had good quality and also the amount of releases was more than acceptable. AFL's maincracker did a damn good job in 1997. Also JACK ALIEN/REM. and MOONCHILD/HITMEN were great crackers in 1997 and canditats for the award! THE BEST GRAPHIC ARTIST IN 1997 -- ------------------------- -- >>> ELECTRIC of EXTEND<<< He convinced us and most voters with his really more than stunning competition winning pictures from the ASSEMBLY and the ZOO'97 party. He didn't release very much, but what he released had such a high quality, that we had no other choice than picking him for this award. Close to this award were also DEEKAY/CREST and VALSARY/SAMAR/LEPSI DE. THE BEST COMPOSER IN 1997 -- ------------------- -- >>>MITCH + DANE of CREST <<< This category reads best composer..... But this time we have two best composers! The fantastic duo from CREST proved to deserve the number one place! Their musics really hit the taste of the masses with very nice melodies! Their tunes in KRESTAGE 1 + 2 and the compo music for THE PARTY 7 were just great! Also ZYRON/F4CG/NOSTALGIA/OXP and DRAX/VIBRANTS put out some awful tunes this year. THE BEST DEMO IN 1997 ------------------- -- >>> KRESTAGE - BACK TO THE ROOTS by CREST<<< It was really hard to make this decision.. Not that there were released many great demos, but also two other really smashing ones! So, ALTERED STATES 50% by TABOO would deserve the second place and the sequel to KRESTAGE called KRESTAGE 2 - FOLLOW THE ROOTS was the third best demo in 1997! So, an old school demo won this award. Let's hope that there will be much more of this kind then in 1998!
THE CHRONIC'97
_______________________________________ THE CHRONIC '97 ------------- -- 1997 is over now... And we bring you a last look back on what happened in the scene in 1997! In this we cover the legal as well as the illegal part of the scene. So, we'll give you a closer look at which group did what last year! But to summarize 1997 in some words we can only say: 1997 was the worst year in C64 history, without any doubt! A pity... -- ---------------------------------------------- -- ACTIVE [swe, ger, hol] -- -------------------------------------- -- They proved to deserve their name in 1997, especially their coder and composer TRIDENT did quite a lot. In spring he put out another one fo his TRIDENT MC music collection, followed by his trackmo JAZZGOSSEN PREVIEW. Then in August he released another trackmo called O-TECH PEOPLE at the ASSEMBLY party. Later on also ARTLACE put out a demo named BETTER LATE THAN NEVER at the ANTIQ'97 party. Also their illegal section showed a sign of life with spreading some mail cracks. ALBION [pol] -- ------------------------------------------------ -- In September they finally put out a new demo called EXCALIBUR on the GRAVITY party. Besides this they released the first two issues of the english version of their magazine VITALITY. ALPHAFLIGHT 1970 [swe, ger, hol...] -- ----------------------------------------------- -- 1997 was a quite successful year for them, even though it didn't start off very well with their WHQ EGDE OF MIDNITE going down, because of RUG RAT's laziness. It was said to come back soon, but as we all know now, this proved to be only a rumour. Then in spring they also had some trouble because of their many 100% versions. So some guys, who didn't like this, released a 100% version of AFL's firstie called MYSTERY under the fake label URINE and later also a 100% version of SAMBER. But the guys in AFL didn't care and continued their massive flight with putting out a lot of nice games, mainly done by their maincracker THE IGNORANCE. On the boards there mostly showed up MARC, VIOLATOR and THE IGNORANCE. They were some of the ones being still able to call out, even at the end of the year, when the board scene became really quiet. Legally RAYDEN released his demo TOO M.F. EVIL at THE PARTY 7 in Denmark at the end of the year. ARISE [hun] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- In spring they put out a dentro called "6502" and later on at the NORTH PARTY they made it to the 3rd with another dentro named INSIDE. BEYOND FORCE [fin] -- ----------------------------------------------- -- It was hard to believe that they did something, but in spring they managed to put out a small dentro called MEETING97, which was, as the name says, a meeting demo. Nothing special at all, but it was meant to show that they are still alive... BREEZE [hun] -- ------------------------------------------------ -- In April they made the first place at the SCENEST party with LONE STAR. In summer they occupied again the first place in a demo competition at a party. This time with putting out ZOOM 8 at the ANTIQ'97 party. CHROMANCE [hun, pol, usa] -- ------------------------------------------------ -- They were quite active this year with putting out some games from time to time. THE BASS PLANET satyed their WHQ, even though SCRATCHER had some problems with his phone-line and thought about quitting the scene. He and MR. WAX were the only guys from CHROMANCE to be seen on the us-boards on a regular basis. They put out a demo named DUMPSTER in late spring and then in summer the SPHERE MUSIC COLLECTION. COMA [hun] -- --------------------------------------------- -- The were really active in 1997 and put out quite a lot of demos. It all started of with their dentro called ONLY HATE, which made the 5th place at the SCENEST party in April. Then in July they released a demo called NOSTALGIA at the RAGE party and occupied the first place with it. At the AMIGANICA party in Hungary they made again the first place with a new trackmo named WILDFIRE. And at the years dusk they gave to the masses a demo in coop with RESOURCE at THE PARTY 7 in AARS. It was called VOID and got place 3. CREST [ger, swe] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- They pleased the masses with two great old school demos in a row. First they released KESTAGE - BACK TO THE ROOTS and after MEGASTYLE's AAAARRGHHH! they reacted to it with the sequel called KRESTAGE 2 - FOLLOW THE ROOTS! Both demos had the known high CREST standard and can be considered two of the best demos in 1997! In late December they also put out a history demo called KRESTORY featuring old parts from some of their old demos. DYNAMIC TECHNOLOGIES [ger] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- The guys from the east of Berlin had a good year with FATMAN becoming active again and DODGER doing lots of mail cracks. Finally they also managed to get on the first release front, too. DODGER was one of the few sceners being seen regularly on the major us-boards, as well as HARDSEQUENCER from time to time. EXCESS [ger] -- --------------------------------------------- -- At the beginning of the year the coop with the guys from ACRISE split up and they decided to go their own way again... Besides some mail cracks they put out two issues of their magazine NITRO. EXTEND [fin] -- --------------------------------------------- -- In spring they released a small but fine dentro called KUPPA. And on the ZOO'97 party in Finland in November they made the first place with their demo named TOTAL EPYGT, even though it wasn't spread around. Most active member was ELECTRIC, who did some nice picture, for example his compo winning ones at the ASSEMBLY and the ZOO'97 party. FAIRLIGHT [swe, ger, oz] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- In early summer they put out a HTML tool for our beloved machine. At the end of the year they recruited many new members for their legal section. The guys from ALTER came in to bring new power to the demo section of FLT. L. A. STYLE joined them as well and brought back his old us board HIDDEN, which became FLT's new WHQ. FANTASTIC FOUR CRACKING GROUP [bel, pol, swe..................] -- ----------------------------------------------- -- This was no special year for them. They had some problems within the group, so some members decided to leave the fantastics. Also SKINHEAD made some trouble and later on cracked under the handle THE CRACKPIONT and was finally kicked in November. On the Internet they managed to put up their FTP-Site called INTERPARK. In November STASI did something for their legal section with releasing a graphics show called MANGA COLLECTION. And in late December ZYRON put out his COMPLETE VOICETRACKER COLLECTION. Mainly WALKER, NEWSCOPY and FUNGUS were seen on the major us-boards but later also got some problems with calling out. FATUM [pol] -- -------------------------------------------- -- At the beginning of the year their great painter FAZEE decided to leave the scene, but he made a last present to the scene with putting out a graphics collection named MINDRIOT. In summer they released another gfx show called ZERO GRAFIKI. HITMEN [ger, hol, swe...................] -- --------------------------------------------- -- 1997 was a nice year for them. They put out some firsties from time to time and recruited some legendary members from ex-AVANTGARDE, for example DEFF, JACK ALIEN and WEASEL. Legally they put out a graphics collection called ICARUS, featuring pieces by CUPID, together with the guys from PADUA. In autumn they also released BLASPHEMY 2, a music collection coded by EROL with many tunes by different composers. Another bbs gfx show by TYRON named TALES OF ESGAROTH 3 was released, too. Their WHQ THE DUNGEON became the most popular us board, even though the guys from HITMEN experienced some problems with calling out since autumn. LAXITY [ger, den] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- They proved their strength with a bunch of firsties and more or less established themselves within the major cracking groups in 1997 with DIDI doing most of the work. LEPSI DE [pol, ger, swe] -- ------------------------------------------------ -- At last years dawn they put out the trackmo called OPTIMISTIC KICK and in spring they released another trackmo named ENJOY. At the ASSEMBLY party they made it to the 3rd place with 3D HIGHLIGHT. Later on SEBALOZ gave the small graphics show PORNOGRAPHY to the masses. They also made some further steps as a game label with producing games, for example SAMBER. MASTERS DESIGN GROUP [ger] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- These guys once again showed a sign of life with releasing their MEGADEMO in spring. MEGASTYLE PRODUCTIONS [nor, ger] -- ----------------------------------------------- -- As an answer to CROSSBOW's KRESTAGE they gave the dentro AAAARRGHHH! coded by SCROLL to the masses. MOTIV 8 [ger] -- --------------------------------------------- -- This year might have been the last year for them as CROSSFIRE and MENDRAKE left the group in December for FAIRLIGHT. But last year they didn't do something special. They released what everybody expected from them: Shitty versions of shitty games. They also opened a quality section in autumn, but there didn't get much released. Legally they managed to put out a small demo called CLEAN UP. NO NAME [fin] -- --------------------------------------------- -- On the X97 party they released their trackmo named HOLY REFUGE and made it to the first place with it. NOSTALGIA [swe, ger] -- ----------------------------------------------- -- They put out a lot of cracks of old games. Besides this they first gave us SIDBURNERS 3 with musics from great old games. Later on the also released the SARGE COLLECTION featuring graphics by the legendary SARGE. At the end of the year they released the 4th part of their series SIDBURNERS. ONSLAUGHT [oz, ger, usa..................] -- ----------------------------------------------- -- Firstie wise they had an average year. Some games from time to time, mainly cracked by STING. On the legal section they weren't much more successful. At least they managed to bring their magazine VANDALISM NEWS out twice. A highlight was a music collection called PAST + PRESENT withmusics by METAL/VIBRANTS. With EARDRUM MASSACRE 2 they put out another music collection. Until summer there were seen many guys from ONSLAUGHT on the us-boards, but as they later on ran out of codes only JAZZCAT called sometimes. OXSID PLANETARY [swe, hun] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- This music label around ZYRON released a music collection named NASTY OLD PIECES at the beginning of the year. OXYRON [ger] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- Althrough the year it was right quiet around them. But on THE PARTY 7 in Denmark GRAHAM put out a smashing dentro named ONE-DER. PANIC [fin] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- At the ASSEMBLY party they released their trackmo SPEEDWAY and made it to the first place with it. PLUSH [ger] -- ----------------------------------------------- -- They managed to release the competition winning demo called X-DREAM at the SILICONVENTION in Bremen/Germany in April. There they also put out a dentro named PLOP. REFLEX [ger] -- ----------------------------------------------- -- There hasn't been any product from them for nearly one year, but on THE PARTY 7 they managed to release a trackmo named BREITBANDKATZE. REMEMBER [ger, uk] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- They became much larger last year and also won a lot of popularity. They put out some old games, of course. Most of them were done by JACK ALIEN. RESOURCE [hun] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- In April they made the 2nd place at the SCENEST party with their demo called OUT OF DAZE. On THE PARTY 7 they released together with COMA a trackmo named VOID. ROLE [bel, ger, pol...................] -- ----------------------------------------------- -- They recruited many new members and went in a cracking coop with the guys from WARRIORS OF WASTELAND. They also had some first releases. Legally they managed to release a few issues of their magazine ROCK'N ROLE and CHANNEL 1 and in spring the digi-collection MORTAL KOMBAT. SAMAR [pol] -- ----------------------------------------------- -- At the year's beginning they released a music collection called Z0NA ROJA and in spring their SCREAM demo. At the NORTHPARTY they got the first place with a new trackmo called OPIUM. Later on they also put out their demo BLOODY DOMINA. SHAPE [nor] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- In spring they gave a great demo named SHAMPULSE together with IMPULSE to the masses. SINGULAR [hun] -- -------------------------------------------- -- They started of with a graphics show called INTOXICATION and on the SCENEST party in April they made it to the third place with ONE YEAR ON THE SCENE. In July they released BEYOND REALITY on the RAGE party and got the 2nd place there. SMASH DESIGNS [ger] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- They were one of the most active demo groups in 1997. Early last year they put out a music collection called SMASHING TUNES 2 and on the SYMPOSIUM +MEKKA they occupied the first place with a trackmo named PROJEKT PITCHFORK and the second place with a dentro NO. With TRIAGE 2 they released again a trackmo at the WIRED'97 party. Later on they put out TYPE-O-NEGATIVE, a demo featuring second class parts. Finally they also gave their C64 version of the PC demo SECOND REALITY to the public, as well as the dentro DESERT DOTS 2. SUCCESS AND THE RULING COMPANY [hol, pol, ger...................] -- ----------------------------------------------- -- They put out many nice releases. Their party X97 was a huge success as well as their DIGITAL DUNGEON on the Internet. SPLATTERHEAD and EL BANDITOS were the only ones from the dutch coop being seen on a regular basis on the major us-boards. TABOO [pol] -- --------------------------------------------- -- In late summer they released their great trackmo named ALTERED STATES 50%, which was originally planed to be a coop demo with ELYSIUM. But as the guys from ELYSIUM didn't do anything for ages they decided to put out all the TABOO part that were ment to be used in that coop demo. TENGU [pol] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- At the SYMPOSIUM+MEKKA party in April they got the fourth place with ELECTRIC DREAMS. Later on they released a dentro called CHRUPKI WRATH DESIGN [fin] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- They gave a sign of life with putting out a small dentro named I LOVE YOU early last year. XENON [hol, usa] -- ------------------------------------------------- -- They made it to the second place with FIERCE CREATIONS at the X97 party in April. ( Return )
SCENE FUTUROLOGY
_______________________________________ SCENE FUTUROLOGY -------------- -- You wonder what this chapter is about?!? Well, as you might be a little bit tired of all that looking back in this issue of THE CREST, we bring you here a chapter full of future! We tell you about which groups are planning what for the brandnew year 1998! So that you can be prepared and maybe also can look forward to some promising products. Let's just hope that all of this really gets released! -- ------------------------------------------------ -- ATLANTIS [aut] -- ------------------------------------ -- After some slow years they really think about coming back again with full power and making some kind of revival! But they want to concentrate on the legal sector only. BYTERAPERS INC. [fin] -- --------------------------------------------- -- Everybody is still waiting for the next trackmo from MR. SEX, which he wanted to put at the ASSEMBLY or THE PARTY 7. But somehow he didn't manage it. Now finally it should be out in 1998, at least at the ASSEMBLY. CENSOR DESIGN [swe] -- ------------------------------------------------- -- They will concentrate even more on the SONY PLAYSTATION, where they want to put out the second part of their game AUTO DESTRUCT. CBM64 wise they want to give to the masses some secret tools. DYNAMIC TECHNOLOGIES [ger] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- In 1998 you can finally really expect the first graphics collection featuring pictures only by HARDSEQUENCER. EXTEND [fin] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- They are still planning to release the complete ROB HUBBARD COLLECTION together with the guys from TOPAZ BEERLINE. FAIRLIGHT [swe, ger, den] -- -------------------------------------------- -- Besides some more issues of their magazine SCENE+ and more illegal releases they are still working on their next demo, which will be called LEGOLIZE IT - A DECADE OF GLORY. Also DEVIL TRACKS 3 with musics by RED DEVIL and VISUAL ORGASM 2 might become reality this year. FLASH INC. [nor] -- ------------------------------------------------ -- Finally they want to put out their new demo in 1998! But according to MORPHEUS we shouldn't expect much hard code, but more style instead! HITMEN [ger, hol, usa] -- --------------------------------------------- -- Besides their cracking they want to release part number 4 of TYRON's BBS-graphics collection called TALES OF ESGAROTH. Either on the X98 or on the MEKKA+SYMPOSIUM'98 they want to release a new trackmo, which will be called ALICE. Then GROEPAZ is expected to finish work on his own music-tracker and also a graphics collection by HI-LITE might be out. It won't feature any Interlace- FLI pictures but old logos and stuff. PADUA [ger] -- ------------------------------------------------- -- Early this year they want to release their demo STARBURST 100%, just more than one year after the 10% version on THE PARTY 6. On the MEKKA +SYMPOSIUM'98 they want to release their next demo then. PANIC [pol, fin] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- They are currently working on their new demo, which they want to give to the audience at the ASSEMBLY'98. SMASH DESIGNS [ger] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- AEG and his men are planning to release their next demo at the MEKKA +SYMPOSIUM'98 in April. Besides this they haven't got any other future projects at the moment. But you can be sure to see more from them, because they were just the most active top demo group in 1997! WARRIORS OF WASTELAND [hol, bel] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- At the MEKKA+SYMPOSIUM'98 they want to release a demo called LICENSE or something like this. Then at another party they are planning to put out their demo DOWN TO THE BOWN, which they originally gave in as contribution to THE PARTY 7, but somehow it didn't compete... WRATH DESIGN [fin] -- ---------------------------------------------- -- There are still to come up the music collection named DISCO CALCULI by ED and the sequel to OXIDY's graphics collection called EXPECTATIONS. So, that were all more or less important groups. The other didn't want to tell us about their future projects or at least didn't manage it in time. Sorry for that! PARTY EVENT COVERAGE
_______________________________________ PARTY EVENT COVERAGE ----------------- -- Again a year was nearly over and it was party time... THE PARTY 6 was said to be THE END OF AN ERA, but this year again it took place. THE PARTY 7! It took place in a small trade fair town called AARS in Denmark from 27th to 29th of December, just like last year. This year's party slogan was BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED and in the course of the party it became a totally new meaning.. But more to that later on... -- ---------------------------------------------- -- On the 26th of December I (HARDSEQUENCER) went to DODGER's home at 20 o'clock. There we packed all our things and prepared some other things for the take off to the party. Then after five hours FATMAN came together with a private friend to catch us. So we started our journey to THE PARTY at about 1:30 am. The streets were nearly empty and soon we were in the north of Denmark. About 8 hours were gone, but then we couldn't find AARS! This was quite strange, as we went there last year, too! But after a while of asking us through and stopping at many petrol stations because of FATMAN's belly (he had to go shit nearly every hour) we finally reached the party place at 12 o'clock. So, when we came in we first had to pay the fuckin' high entrance fee of 300 Denish Crowns (about 45 US dollars) and then were a little bit disapointed, because we walked around in the 3 halls and couldn't find anyone we knew. So we decided to go into the city for shopping and stuff. After some hours we came back and still only met a hand-full of people we knew. So we made the decision to catch some sleep until there would be more 64 sceners, although until then the first two halls were already full and the third one about half filled. When we woke up 7 pm there were finally much more sceners we know.. So we had some nice talks with guys like SCARE/ACTIVE, WEASEL/HITMEN, DANZIG/AFL, COUNT ZER0/SCS +TRC and some other ones. But than there suddenly happened something funny... The power was gone! Everything was dark and no computer worked! Everything was down... Half of the town AARS was without power, just because of us computer freaks taking too much power, hehe! So the party's old slogan BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED was changed by the visitors into POWER NOT INCLUDED! Yeah. That's a happening that was always keep that party in many people memories.. :) By then we went sleeping again, as it was said that the power failure should last about 6 hours, but finally after about two and a half hours the power came back and the party could continue. But we didn't care and continued sleeping until the morning of the 28th of December. What we didn't know by then, was that the 64 music competition took place in the early morning hours! So a lot of people slept while it took place! Very bad organisation, I must admit! Most people didn't know about the time table, because there was only one(!!!) printed at the information stand! And those who knew the time table didn't have much luck too, because it was changed because of the power failure! When we woke up, it was about 10 am on the 28th and we hang around with some guys from TRIAD and talked to DEEKAY/CREST, DANE/CREST, MITCH/CREST, DUKE/FAIRLIGHT and SUNDANCER/FAIRLIGHT, although the conversation with the last two ones wasn't that friendly, hehe! Then at 14 o'clock was the deadline for the 64 graphics competition and three hours later it took place then. After these lame PC and Amiga graphics in their competition (there were only 2 or 3 nice pictures in about 100 contributions!) the 64 graphics compo had to become a real smasher! But again the organizers fucked the shit up! They displayed the pictures as a screenshot, converted to PC! So, that means that there was only displayed one frame of all Interlace-FLI pictures! I guess you can imagine how ugly that looked! Anyway, it was a success, as nearly all graphics were quite nice and had a more or less high standart. After that DODGER and me went to the sleeping hall to have a shower and when we came back the PC and Amiga competitions (Intros, Demos) started... Then there again happened something funny.... DIDI of LAXITY got the original of BOMB MANIA and started to crack it. But as he wasn't successful he asked some other crackers for trying to crack this game. Then DODGER, DANZIG, DIDI and JACK ALIEN tried to crack this game, one of the few with a protection nowadays. WEASEL, FATMAN, CHAOTIC/SMASH DESIGNS, ANONYM/ PADUA and me then were waiting for the PC demo competition in front of the big screen and DODGER came and told us happily that he did and cracked the game as first! Yeah. Nice to have seen such a small cracking competition once again! :) So we watched the PC competition, which was once again delayed for about one and a half hour, and we were really disappointed as these demos had a fucking low quality this year. When the WILD! demo competition started at about 3:30 o'clock most people were tired like hell... And I decided to go to sleep again after watching the first 6 WILD! demos, which all were really boring in contrast to last year. So I wanted to sleep until the CBM64 demo compo, which was planned to take place at 10 o'clock. At about 9 o'clock I couldn't sleep anymore.. Lucky me! Because by then someone came into hall 3, the hall were most C64 sceners were, and shouted, that the C64 demo competition starts now! So all of us took our things and ran into the mainhall to the big screen.. The first demo was already running.... Again really bad organisation - The demo compo one hour too early.. Just imagine someone slept in the sleeping hall and came at 10 am to watch the demos, he surely came to late! The quality as well as the number of the demos was satisfying and of course one applause was hunting the next one, even though many people were still sleeping. When the competition was finished the voting started. And this year the voting had to be done on the network online again, just like last year! For us 64 sceners that wasn't good, of course. So we wanted to vote with the PC at the information stand. But the party's webserver went down every 5 to 10 minutes! Bah! But somehow we finally got to cast our votes... Then the halls started to become more and more empty.. I copied some of the demos and the DODGER, FATMAN and his friend and me said Bye Bye and left the party place at 12 o'clock on th 29th, about 1 hour before the prize giving ceremony. We had a really good drive and after a critical inspection at the border we were again in Germany and arrived in Berlin at about 20 o'clock. So, summarizing I can say that this party again really was worth its money! There were of course some bad sides like high entrance fee, unfriendly organizers, bad organisation, the power failure and the well-known after one hour dirty toilets, but that didn't all matter very much. It was once again nice to meet some old friends and get to know new faces from people we only knew handle! It was fun! Now as a last point I might give you a short list of who was there... But of course it won't be complete... I guess I'll forget more than 10 guys, hehe! Don't blame me for this, please! So, at THE PARTY 7 were present the following groups - CAMELOT (RAZ, JEFF, CRUZER) - TRIAD (IOPOP, TWOFLOWER, TAPER) - OXYRON (AXIS, GRAHAM, TTS, FANTA) - CREST (DEEKAY, DANE, MITCH) - ACTIVE (SCARE) - DYTEC (FATMAN, DODGER, HARDSEQUENCER) - SMASH DESIGNS (AEG, CHAOTIC) - HITMEN (CUPID, JACK ALIEN, WEASEL, GROEPAZ) - REFLEX (HAPPYMAKER, FELIDAE) - ALPHAFLIGHT 1970 (LYNCHBIT, DANZIG, RAYDEN) - THE OBSESSED MANIACS (KB) - FLASH INC. (WARP 8) - FAIRLIGHT (DUKE, SUNDANCER, CROSSFIRE) - LAXITY (DIDI) - EXCESS (FANTASTIC ZOOL) - PADUA (ANONYM, LEONARDO) - CHROMANCE (JEAN) - COMA + RESOURCE - THE COMMODORE COWBOWS and of course some other guys that I can't remember now or even didn't know that they were there, too! HARDSEQUENCER -------------------- ( Return )
WORLD OF ARTS
_______________________________________ WORLD OF ARTS ----------- -- This time we bring you a review of the competition pictures from THE PARTY 7, which took place in Denmark from 27th to 29th of December. Just like expected there got released the most and for me also the best competition graphics of the whole year 1997 at the party of the year! Although best-known artists like CREEPER and ELECTRIC didn't take part in this spectacle of the year, it became clear that there are many until now unknown graphic artists that know how to invite the spectator to -- --------------------------------------------- -- trance and fascinate him pixel by pixel! Of course there were also the ones that only wanted to take part in the competition without any will to win it. But enough words wasted.... Let's have a look what brought us this year's event concerning eyesmashers... ELLIS IN CHAINS by VIP -- ---------------- -- Some kind of Manga styled picture, which shows a chained woman... It gets refined with a blue-purple background! A nice picture that was painted in CREST's unbelievable SHIFT-LI editor! Originality: 43% Conversion: 50% Mode Usage: 53% This picture is okay! Some parts like the arms could have been painted a little bit better, but still it's worth to be looked at, hehe! The only thing that I'm thinking negative of, is the fact that there once was a graphican with the name VIP (a member of CREST)! Just by the way... > 49% A-KO by BUD -- ----- -- Just another Manga-like picture............. Shown is a Mangaface (woman)... The whole gets completed with a cloud-like mass! :) Originality: 39% Conversion: 42% Mode Usage: 34% With some more colours this piece would look even better! But that was the case with all Manga-C64- pictures that I ever saw! I also miss the certain shine-effects, that make Manga something special. Anyway, this pic is okay. > 38% GRUENSCHNABEL by WARP 8 -- ----------------- -- An Interlace-FLI picture that is based on a piece by a sprayer called SIMO. Here we see a woman's face, which might be better known as MEDUSA... The whole thing gets surrounded by a hair-snake-thingy with faces... Nice pic! Originality: 35% Conversion: 65% Mode Usage: 55% Why only 35% for originality? Simple answer... It was not WARP 8 who painted the original but SIMO! The only thing that I have to find fault with is the massive flickering of the cigarette. But still an extremly fat piece! > 52% DEXTER by CRUZER -- ---------- -- Who doesn't know him? The small comic-boy that pleases the masses day by day with his comic series DEXTERS LARORATORIES on the british tv channel CARTOON NETWORK! Essentialy nothing else to say... Just watch the comic! It's worth it! Originality: 35% Conversion: 51% Mode Usage: 38% CRUZER really shows that he knows how to paint comic-styled pictures! It's quite simple, but it looks great anyway! One of the better pictures (for me personally), but I have to take into consideration the other expanded graphics when giving the points... So this picture get only 7% in originality! > 32% DRAGONWAR by SPLASH -- -------------- -- Unbelievable! ...That this guy is ashamed to release an unpixelled pure Interlace-FLI converted graphic! Displayed are two fighting dragons... Originality: 5% Conversion: 0% Mode Usage: 5% A shame for every artist! Usually any kind of picture steeling like this has to be banned from every competition! That takes the chance from them who put a lot of pixelling work into their pieces... Essentialy this pic would deserve 0%! > 3% DEVIL by AMN -- ------ -- An Interlace-FLI graphic that shows a smoking devil. Btw, it seems that smoking was this party's motto, eh?!? Hehe.. That picture is painted (?) badly... Originality: 9% Conversion: 15% Mode Usage: 10% One of the pictures that better never ever should have been released! My judgement is justified in any way! > 11% DON'T FUCK WITH ME by EQ -- ------------------ -- One of the good koala pictures that took part in the competition.. Displayed are things like a woman's face, a shooting guy and a mutant... The whole gets surrounded by some things like a snake etc. Originality: 57% Conversion: 68% Mode Usage: 84% The mode was used excellently! Because of the mass of colours the picture gets a special touch. I wish that all koala pictures would have that quality! > 70% UNTITLED by TYRANT -- ------------ -- Like most picture nowadays also this picture was painted in the I-FLI mode... You can see an old man that seems to be a professor or so... Originality: 48% Conversion: 61% Mode Usage: 42% It's out of question that this picture also would have been possible in normal FLI or maybe even in koala! That's why I gave not so many points! Anyway, a nice pic! > 50% ANGRY MAN by REEKOL -- ------------- -- An Interlace-FLI picture, which shows an ugly creature (ugly concerning the creature itself).. A good advertisement for OIL OF OLAZ creme, hehe! The creature looks at the spectator and tries to pull you into the screen. Hehe, just kidding... Originality: 47% Conversion: 61% Mode Usage: 40% Cool picture! Hope to see more from REEKOL in the future... The mode wasn't chosen very well, because this piece would have been possible in FLI as well. But that isn't so important! > 49% BOMB THE BASS by HARDSEQUENCER -- ------------------------- -- An Interlace-FLI picture that is based on a graffiti piece, which was sprayed some years ago in Berlin/ Germany! You can see two sprayers that rock the city in the background with their ghettoblasters! Originality: 38% Conversion: 52% Mode Usage: 53% For me it flickers too much! The reason for that are the bright colours... Also this picture would have been possible in FLI! It looks cool anyway! And most of all: It isn't converted. > 48% HOPELESS by HOOGO -- ------------ -- A picture that was painted in a new mode (at least I don't know this mode!). MC-Interlace using 47 hires- sprites per frame.. I have to say that this resolution is really good.. Displayed is a little dressed woman, that is surrounded by rocks....... Nice panorama! Originality: 46% Conversion: 52% Mode Usage: ??? As I don't know this graphic mode I decided to give no points concerning the Mode Usage.... Hope to see more pics/logos in this mode in the future! > 49% BREAKTHROUGH by ZELDIN -- ---------------- -- This picture was painted in Drazlace-mode........ Shown is Clar K-Gable, who surely is better known a SUPERMAN. Surrounded is the whole thing by stones/walls etc... Originality: 73% Conversion: 78% Mode Usage: 57% Cool picture! Another positiv thing is that the painter offers every specticer to show him all 10 saves of the picture to prove that it's really handpixelled. > 69% BIOCONTROL by FELIDAE -- ---------------- -- For this picture the I-FLI mode was chosen... Displayed i a flute playing man, who tries to influence a mutant-snake-bat.... The whole gets bordered by a pruple box... Originality: 36% Conversion: 48% Mode Usage: 43% This pic would have been possible in normal FLI... But concerning all other aspects it's ok! > 42% CLEVELAND by IRON MAN -- ---------------- -- I really don't know what to say! Displayed is the sign of the baseball team CLEVELAND INDIANS... Originality: 1% Conversion: 5% Mode Usage: 2% This thingy would have been in ASCII codes, too! : ) It's so bad that it isn't really worth to write about... > 3% BATMANBRAETFISCH by CYCLONE -- --------------------- -- One of the best Interlace-FLI pictures I ever saw! Shown is a landscape in which a wolf and a woman are included! Cool! The painter is well known on the Amiga, where he is a member of the group ABYSS, and from time to time he also paints on the C64! Originality: 78% Conversion: 95% Mode Usage: 100% The mode was used extremely! The style somehow reminds me of ELECTRIC! Perhaps it's a cloned ELECTRIC? Hehe.. Hopefully we'll see more from that talent in the near future! > 91% LITTLE YOUNG OLD GRANNY by RAYDEN -- --------------------------- -- An I-FLI Amiga converted picture! Displayed are two different half's of a face.. The one is an old face and the other one a bloody young one! Surrounded is the whole thing by colour-fire (?)... Originality: 65% Conversion: 71% Mode Usage: 89% I only give 71% for the conversion, because this pic was painted on Amiga! I'd like to see once a C64 based and painted picture from RAYDEN one day! Converting is for me one of the worst violations from VIC-chips, in this case of the C64's one! Even though it was pixelled on the Amiga... It's much easier to paint on the Amiga than on the CBM64! > 75% MULTIMEDIOT by DEEKAY -- ---------------- -- This picture was painted in an improved and still yet unspreaded version of the CREST SHIFT-LI editor, if I'm not mistaken. You can see a boy with a windows flag in one hand, who looks fuckin' weird! Just a stupid PC freak, hehe! Originality: 76% Conversion: 41% Mode Usage: 48% This picture is quite funny to look at, but it's too small! Only about half of the screen is really used and so it looks all a little bit empty. The colourfading of the guy are great, but that's no problem with this graphic mode, I guess.. But I really have to respect DEEKAY's work, as it's fuckin' hard to handle the editor for this mode! > 55% SPICE UP YOUR LIFE by DANE -- --------------------- -- Hard to guess from the title................. This piece shows the 5 well known woman MEL B, MEL C, EMMA, VICTORIA and GERI from the SPICE GIRLS. Originality: 61% Conversion: 38% Mode Usage: 43% The girls aren't painted that well. It just all looks a bit comic like. At least you can really guess and figure the girls' faces. A positive point is, that DANE painted that picture only at the party! He started and finished it there! Respect! > 47% That were all pictures from THE PARTY 7. My ranking then looks like this... 1. BATMANBRAETFISCH by CYCLONE 91% 2. LITTLE YOUNG OLD GRANNY by RAYDEN 75% 3. DON'T FUCK WITH ME by EQ 70% For comparison here are the competition results 1. LITTLE YOUNG OLD GRANNY by RAYDEN 2. SPICE UP YOUR LIFE by DANE 3. UNTITLED by TYRANT So, quite surprising that DANE's picture reached the second place... I guess the party was attended by many anonymous Spice Girls fans, hehe! All in all this competition wasn't very different to the ones before..... Anyway, it's always nice again to see that there are still active people that invest many hours to pixel excellent pictures just for small prizes (or none!)... Unfortunately there are also guys that try gain votes with lame Amiga/PC converted pictures... And very often they are successful with this method! A pity, because this takes the chance to be successful in the competition from them, who really spent many days for their contribution. But this problem is known since there are compos. Btw, the last two pictures (the ones by DEEKAY and DANE) were reviewed by HARDSEQUENCER. I couldn't review them as they weren't spread around with the other competition graphics.. So HS reviewed them by recalling them, when they were shown in the competition and when DEEKAY and DANE were painting them on the party.
