The Cupid Corner

Well, well, once again it's time for the small insight
into the world of noone else than CUPID/AVT, or
else, let's feel welcomed to the

CUPID-CORNER
CUPID-CORNER

Well, right now I am sitting here at Biz Kid's place,
and he's sitting next to me, editing the addies, and
believe me, he just looks marvellous in his new drag
queen outfit...

This surely is a strange country to travel to, just
forget anything you heard about travel-signs,
speed limits and opening-hours of bakeries, just get
on with it,and you'll feel comfortable for sure...

So far,we did next to nothing for this issue, but I
hope that that'll change as soon as he will stop
constantly putting his hand on my lap, please stop,
will you?

Now, I'll better stop waffling about the surround-
ings, and get straight into the scene-relevant bits,
right?

Well, first about Biz Kid, I just recently read his
interview in the Pulse, and I am also sick of people
still calling him too mellow and describing him as
someone, that does not dare to step onto anybody's
toes, believe me, he is mean, heartless, and is al-
ways likely to blow out anybodys candle, who is
getting crossed with him... (Is that how you wanted
it,Jesper? Oh,yes,thanx... damn,I've been friendly
once again!)

No, now serious, why dont't you just respect some-
one who does NOT want to make any trouble? Why
should a good editor rag about everyone, and con-
stantly point out the mistakes others do? I just
can say, that he does give criticism, where it's nee-
ded, but he just doesn't try to show off, by showing
other people's faults!

Well, on with the other stuff, that concerned me
personally, you could easily imagine, that I would
not participate into anyone's mag, who I call a wimp
and a brown-noser myself...

Let's stick to the magazine-topic once more...

WE ARE DIFFERENT

No, no, we're not going to talk about the members of
mayday here, in fact I realised, that some editors
nowadays consider themselves as different, just
because they use some decent english phrases and
rummage about in both the mail and the modem
scene.
They also try to show some eloquence by using ter-
ms like "serious journalism" and similies. Now,I do
intend to study journalism next year, and believe
me,there's a lot more into it,than just putting out
some text from time to time...
This attitude somehow goes on my nerves, as it is
based on a strange view on the scene. This here is
the scene,we're here for fun and to enjoy
ourselves, not real life. A good mag should give you
information, a possibility to put out own texts
(mainly your addie, memberstatus etc...), and, in addi-
tion to that: F U N... In case that I want to have ser-
ious journalism, then I'd take a newspaper.
I do appreciate their work when it comes to assemb-
ling the news, this is really a part, that I like to
read, as it shows a lot of background work, but it
gives me next to nothing hearing how good and how
fundated an editor is when it comes to scene-his-
tory. Furthermore, it is really annoying if somebody
continiously plays his own trumpet by trying to get
a real "mature" attitude into his texts. Coments are
given in a form, that is undoubtly not understand-
able for a broad part of the scene. I admit, I also
do tend to use some phrases from time to time, that
may be a tough one for others (Intruder keeps tell-
ing me, if I do!), but I hardly use it to show off, it's
just my way of writing. So,please try to stick to
your origins, the scene, a pack of real weird guys,
who are out for fun&information and want to have
an enjoyable reading. I know, that I may have put my
hand into a beehive now, but I don't care, as there
is far too much bureaucracy in real life, so why
should it also be in the scene????

HELLO,OUR NAME IS...

Another thing, that I realised when editing the addie
chapter together with BK was, that there are really
a lot of groups nowadays, especially in the country,
that is probably guilty for the scene still being he-
re, Poland. Ok,ok, there have always been smaller
and bigger crews, groups that are active, and
groups, that are just a name. Sometimes a group
even gets a lot of respect, though they just do one
thing, remember REGINA? But nowadays, you can read
about new groups with toally unknown members
weekly. Celtic of No Name wrote, in his very perso-
nal, weird style about a bogus phonecall where two
persons, being nearly unable to do anything on the
compi, found a new group and began to act cool. Now,
it seems as if this is the sad truth! Whoever heard
of groups like Undying, Tubular Jobs, Kluski,Samael?
Now listen, I do understand you doing your own
thing, but if it was that easy leading a group, there
wouldn't be that much of a difference in style and
quality between the certain groups, would there?
Being a group does not only mean sharing the same
name, it should also be friendship and a certain si-
milarity of views and concepts. And,moreover, there
has to be a sort of organisation. Now,there are some
ways to get known, first, you are really fucking
great, or you do have the right contacts within the
scene. It's no use jumping into the water without
even having a slightest idea of how to swim. So,I ad-
vise all of you out there, better try your luck with
a small, partly known group before founding your
own, that has small chances to become recognized
at all. You could even stay independent, sooner or
later a group will knock on your door, if you just do
your job good...

DISMEMBERING THE LEGENDS

When running through the addies (yes, they were
some real inspiration for this issue's Cupid Corner!)
I read about someone being in a new group called
SHARKS. Now here we go again! Sharks used to be a
really cool illegal crew and one of my favourites in
the old days, be fair I copied the idea for one of my
first logos from a sharks intro. And now someone
comes up using the good old name, may it be because
of ignorance or simply to get known faster. Last
year a german scener got some trouble changing his
handle into a handle belonging to a former Beastie
Boys member, and that should also happen here. If
we want to keep track of the scene-history, things
like that should be stopped immediately, as paying
tribute to the old legends is the better way than
just forgetting about them. Ok,I admit,it can happen,
that there was a group or handle before,if I choose
a new one, but it is better to ask somebody compe-
tent before starting to spread this name...

1,2 FOR THE CREW, 3 FOR THE DOUGH

What does he want now,you may ask. I want to talk
about a topic, that made me really go mad lately,
and that is Greed! Realising, that some groups hold
back their finished demos until the party really dis-
appointed me and shook a bit of my former view on
the scene. What is the idea of releasing a demo? Is
it just for the prizes? I doubt so, I prefer it being
an opportunity to show your skills and ideas and to
get some respect. Fact is,that there is a full track-
mo being held back until the party gives the crew
some quick cash, that wouldn't be that much either,
as it would have to be divided amongst the members!
Ok,that's nothing special, you might say,it's been
made for ages. It would be, if this piece of code
wouldn't have been finished since summer! It's path-
etic, are you out there really dependent on the pri-
zes? If so,you'd better start coding games or,even
better, get the fuck out of here and mind your busi-
ness on AMIGA and PC, as there is,where the quick
and big cash lies! It just kills the scene,if someone
just puts out demos for profit, the same way the
release of the same crappy game 3 or 4 times as se-
quels with just some new maps killed the prices in
the game-producing biz. Getting greedy is not the
right way to ensure the further existance of this
beloved scene, so if you're just out for money, get
the fuck out...

Now,I surely do have some more to tell, but the time
is limited and I'll have to send this in fast, as there
is more to be done until the big one in Fredericia,so
I hope you were there,too!
