About Seytan of Aps/Arcoss

And here is an interview conducted by Shuze, and I
ask:

SEYTAN/APS/ARCOSS
SEYTAN/APS/ARCOSS

to step up the the keyboard, and talk about his
deepest darkest desires ('n' stuff....)

(Sk = Skyhigh
S     = Seytan  )

Sk: Hi Marc, well, I know you are Marc, but the
readers may not, so could you tell all of them who
you are please (name, age, etc)

S: Nice, you've choosen me for an interview. In the
scene I'm known as SEYTAN/ARCOSS/APS and in real
life I am called Marc Teufel, I'm proud to be 19 years
old, I'm 1.73m tall, dark-brown haired and I'm living
in germany.

Sk: Well, now we've had the personal stuff, how
about telling us what you do in the scene?

S:I joined the scene in October 1993 when Red Rock
let me join Excess. Yes, he was the person who
helped me alot! After staying some time in Excess I
left and joined Reflex but as they thought I am a
bad artist or something like this, they kicked me out!
After being groupless some time, I joined Climax but
as this group is really unactive I left again and
finally teamed up with Arcoss. This group is really
cool, big friendship, I will never leave them!
Well, APS is my 2nd group wich I founded together
with MISTADOBALINA in March of 1993. This group is,
as you know, a gameproducing crew and we plan to
make more professional actiongames in the future.
In both groups I am Grafican trying to make some
cool artworks but don't forget, I'm one of those
newer sceners who really can't be compared with
Cruise or RRR, for example.

Sk: So, you are an artist mainly. Of course, we all
knew that, as we saw your "REFLEX" logo in their
demo "Radio Napalm". Do you do a lot of work for
your two groups as an artist, or do you do more
art for other people (i.e. logo's for other people)?

S: By the way, I did not only the Reflex Logo for
"Radio Napalm", I also did a (lame) logo for their
earlier released "Cafe'Odd" - but we all know -
without (great) coders like Quiss and Guru, Reflex
surely won't be a top demogroup like it today is.
Well, to answer your question, the most works I do
for APS and Arcoss, so we in Arcoss just released
my very first graficscollection "Artcore". I also did
alot of grafics for upcoming APS-Games but on the
other hand I also do arts for good friends of mine.

Sk: Art Project Studios is, as we know, a game
coding outfit. What has been done by the team in the
past, and who is involved in it? How did the people
who are in the team at the moment get to be there?

S: APS (Art Project Studios) was founded in March 93
by Mistadobalina (today he is more than unactive!)
and me. At the first time we were only 3 members
(Roop, Mistadobalina and me) but as Roop got a girl
and Mistadobalina was too lazy, we released nothing
than a toolcollection. Than, I contacted Quiss who
in this time was totally unknown! He joined and we
started on the first APS Game called "Muehle". This
happened at the end of 1993. We got to big friends
and as he lived not far away from me, we arranged
some meetings, too. Later SONIC joined us and re-
leased his first APS-Game named "Oracle 2". Later
PVCF also joined and so we had a great musician too,
one of the best tekknocomposers around! We did
games like "Nova 2", "Geometric" and "Cyberball" and
earned a lot of money, heheheh.... In August 1994,
Quiss and me had a little meeting in Munich and here
he gave me the first versions of APS-Painter, he
coded esspecially for me. Using this painter I de-
signed all my other grafics, mainly those AFLI ones
like the Reflex Logo and the "Geometric 2" Grafics.
To talk about "Geometric 2", on this game I am really
proud!! Why ? It was a hell of work to do all those
AFLI Grafics, by the way the "Geometric 2" Grafics
were my first in this format. Well, as Quiss and me
have some problems he left us because it's more
than shit to have to guys in one group who have a
conflict. I won't say we have a "war" because wars
are childish!! This something between Quiss and me
(Ueberrascht, Matthias?).

Sk: Are there any sceners you have ever looked at
and thought, I wish I could paint like him (/her)? If
so, did you start making similar artwork to them, or
do you hink you have your own style?

S: Yes, the persons in my case is Cruise (Pictures)
and Compyx (Logos), this two artists are the best
and the most copied ones, too. Yes, once I made
similar grafics to them but today I can say I
developed my own style.

Sk: As I hinted at the last questions, there's a lot
of people stealing other peoples art style (i.e. all
the people copying Cruise's style, and all the
people using the same coloring techniques). What do
you think of that? Do you think that simply because
someone cannot think of a decent style of their
own that it makes them a bad artist?

S: I think it's not bad if people copy parts of others
STYLE (not real grafics!) because most of them
create their own style later. Cruise. His art to paint
grafics is very successfull so don't wonder if
people "steal" his style to gain respect!

Sk: Being an artist (mainly), when you look at a demo,
is it the artwork that catches your eyes, or are you
more impressed by a demo featuring world records,
instead of beautiful effects?

S: Nice question. A demo featuring great grafics and
design is more impressive for me than real hard code.
Okay, less designed trackmos like "Radio Napalm"
or "World of Code"-Series are great but I prefer
those designed ones more! "Cortesy of Soviet" and
all Focus-Demos, to name only a few, are my faves!

Sk: It is obvious that the scene is dying, and it will
die, but do you think the buying of Commodore by
Escom will stretch out the scene, or will it just
make a ompletely new one in eastern countries? Or
do you think the scene will have a different final
resting place?

S: The scene is slow dying, I dont think that the
buying from Escom will stretch the scene but it won't
be bad if theres a new scene in china or russland
maybe.

Sk: Have you visited any scene parties? If so, was it
good in your opinion? What do you think makes a good
party?

S: Sorry, but I never was on one of those great
partys but I hope to be at the "Party V" this year
in Herning. What a party makes good ? No idea, like
told, I never was at a paddy!

Sk: Do you have a modem? If so, do you call the
boards? And if not, would you call the boards if you
did have one?

S: I plan to buy a modem soon, Yes I am very
intrested to call the boards.

Sk: Lately there have been quite a lot of new
sceners turning up. Some people say this is good,
and some say it is bad, as a lot of new sceners are
forcing older sceners out, as some do lower the
tone of the scene by their lame acts (no offence
meant to anyone, but some new guys act very lame
due to inexperience). What do you think about that?

S: I am one of those newer sceners so I only can say
it is good to see fresh blood in the scene. But we,
the new ones, have to show respect to the "Elite"
(and I do!) but the "Elite" should give us newcomers
a chance, too! Anyway, it is lame if newcomers force
older sceners out!

Sk: When you joined the scene, was it easy since you
were talented, or was it difficult simply because you
were new?

S: For me, it was not that difficult to start in the
scene, because a lot of people helped me (Thanx!).
But in the beginning, of my painting-career when I
copied others style it was harder coz this was the
time when I developed myself.

Sk: Ok, its time for a BRAINSTORM!

C64: Kult!

Amiga: Nice Games! Deluxe Paint rulez!

PANTS: Calvin Kline

The Birdie Song: Alle meine Entchen, hehehe...

Cracking: Snacky

Fave song:Trancetekkno

Vegetarians: Burgerking!

Radio Napalm: Great trackmo...

Oxyron: RRR

Camelot: Skyhigh

Metallica: Not bad.

Tape deck: Walkman!

Cindy Crawford: Franzi van Almsick is better!

Woof! ...Miau!

Quiss: No comment...

DJ Bobo (!!!): .....renamed into SEYTAN !!!

Sk: OK, that will do that for the moment. Do you like
jelly (the Yanks call it Jell-O, if so, what flavour)?

S: No, I prefer meals from Burgerking...

Sk: If there was one, just one, person you could
have killed, without you ever being found out, who
would it be, and why?

S: The persons I would kill are these persons
responsible for the wars in our world. Sadam Hussein
and Karadcech, to name only two. Fuck them!
In the scene there's no one I would like to kill.
WARS ARE LAME...

Sk: Are you a sports fan? If so, what do you think
of Dennis Bergkamp's move to Arsenal? Is it a load
of ARSE(nal) or is it good for him?

S: Whaaaaaaat ?!? I hate sports!!!!!! Bah, I hate it....

Sk: Do you have any major disagreements with any
sceners in particular, if so, who and why?

S: Everybody had his own opinion and is allowed to
say what he thinks.

Sk: Being involved with games so much, what do you
think the best game released from January 1994
onwards was? And how about 1995 only?

S: Games ? The very best games released in the past
was "Mayhem" from Apex but also "Flummis World"
was great. 1995 ? No idea, what the label will release
but we in APS started on a actiongame.

Sk: OK Marc, I think I'm happy now you have done that
for me, so will let you throw out some greets to
the world!

S: Greetings to all who keep the scene alive, to all
my contacts and my favorite artists CRUISE, COMPYX
RRR, CUPID and JETAN. May the 64 never die!

Sk: Thanks Marc.

S: Bye, Paul.

Hey Readers, do you know what a DYSLEXIC DEVIL
WORSHIPPER is ? Bye from Seytan!
