interview ii
--------------
done by pharao
as said in the first interview chapter
here you'll find the interview with
tjost, the coder that always code but
never release(!?)
? pharao
! tjost
? please introduce yourself to the
readers!
! ok, here you have the obligatory
personal data: my real name is daniel
and i'm 18 years old. currently i'm
on my third year in the swedish
high school (called gymnasium in
sweden). hmmm, i spend my time on:
programming, rpg and strategic games,
maths and physics (i'm not kidding!),
partying & girls (yeeeay!!!) getting
my drivers license, making weird
experiments on my little sister,
listening to old c64 music, phoning
more than i can afford and a lot
more......
? when did you get your first c64 and
what made you start to code?
! hmmm, my first computer was a spectrum
48k (rulez), to which i didn't have
any games (one - chase hq...), so i
started to code those faboulus basic
programs on the machine. some time
later, one of my friends in school
showed me a c64, and after a short
while i was trapped with it.... i got
my own and quite soon i discovered the
magic of the assembler language. and
then, after a year or two, i bought my
c128, and i've still got it. end of
story.
? how did you get your handle?
! hah, i'm really not sure about that,
coz i've had it for a looong time, but
i think it had something to do with an
old man in a bicycle shop(!!). tjost
is a word that only exists in the
parts of sweden where i currently live
(i lived in gotherburg the first ten
years of my life). so, this old man
was actually tjosting (whatever it
means), and well, i don't really know
from there, but it was quite a weird
story anyway. but i like the name, so
i've always kept it (and i'll continue
with that....). confusing?? yep!
? what is your function in jam and when
did you join?
! i'm a coder (no, really????), and
that's what i do. (in jam and
everywhere else...) i really like to
code, and the c64 has that special
coding feeling that you won't find on
any other computer. (all coders on the
c64 will know what i mean, right???).
i joined jam a while after i had
started coding on my first c64. it was
xaw/jam who introduced me to the c64,
and it was he who told the other jam
members that i existed (we were in the
same class at school). i think it was
some time back in 1990 or 1991.
? have you been in any other groups but
jam?
! nope!! never. actually it's been a
matter of principle to me not to
change groups. i don't like people who
go to other groups, especially when
they do it many times. the reason that
people do this is mostly because they
want to become more famous by joining
a more wellknown group. if you had
asked me who i consider being lamers
these people would have been some of
them. it is another thing when you
join another group because your former
group have died/are going to die.
i also dislike fellas who are in
several groups at one time. (lamers..)
? which was your very first demo?
! well, my first real production was a
small thing i made when i was about to
join jam. our first real demo in jam
was (i think) 'unlimited limits'.
? what are your future projects on the
c64?
! well, when i get a drive (haven't got
one for he moment) i will continue on
my prop. charset noter. it will be a
really good one, so look out for it!!
jam will probably release some more
demos, when we (the coders) can get
time for coding. i'm also thinking of
making a small game (just for fun,
freeware ofcause (information wants to
be free!!!)). besides that, i don't
know.
? will we see any demos from jam in the
future?
! well, i think i just answered that
ques up in the former one..... the
answer is (again) yes, probably.
? if jam dies will you quit the scene
or join another group?
! now, that is a good question, coz i
really don't know that. i don't think
that i will join another group, since,
as i said before, it is a matter of
principle to me. i can't see any
meaning in joining another group,
other than becoming more famous, and
i can't say that that means very much
to me. i don't think that jam will
really die, coz the members now will
probably not join other groups. and if
jam doesn't die i will definately not
join another group.
? do you code and/or swap on any other
computer?
! yep, i have got an a1200 with some
extra hardware, but the c64 is still
the kicking computer. there is nothing
quite like it. but it is a fact that
you can't code in high level language
like c, or play modules, or those
really good games on the c64, even
though c64 ass rulez and c64 music is
the best (hubbard forever!!!!) and
the original tetris rulez......
? who are your best friends and worst
enemies on the c64?
! well, i can't think of all friends i
should mention, so i won't name any
particular fellas, but just say hello
to all freaks i have met during my
time in the c64-scene, and
particularly all jam members and all
my contacts i have swapped with....
well, i don't believe in throwing shit
on other people publicly, even though
the people i could throw shit on do...
? what are your future plans in real
life?
! on the autumn 1995 i will start my
education on the swedish university,
(called hög-skola in swedish) and a
year after that (starting) i will do
my military service for ten months.
and after four and a half year of
studying i will take my degree. (prob.
in theoretical engineering physics)
then i will either start working
somewhere, or (which is more probable)
continue to research on the university
(physics/mathematics/computer-science)
? what will you do in ten years?
! hah, i think i answered that ques up
in the last one (again...), i will
probably research in physics or
computer-science (or both).....
? which are your best/worst qualities?
! hahah, well, i am happy most of the
time (if that is a good quality).
i am quite lazy (bad...) hmm, i
haven't got the fantasy to think of
some more (bad quality????)
? what do you think of politics?
! i'm not very interested in politics,
but if you ask for my political views
i am (as some more in jam) very red.
(COMMUNISM, if you didn't know.....)
? please tell us your favies!
(food, book, film, music, tv-program,
coder, graph. etc. etc. etc. )
! i like chinese food (not very original
i know...). i also like hot food
(bränn!bränn!bränn!).
i haven't got any fav. books, but i
like fantasy and science fiction books
so jrr tolkien and gibson are ofcoz
favies...
i don't go to the movies very often,
since we haven't got any cinema where
i live (nowhere....) but i'm not very
interested in watching movies anyway..
i listen to synth, techno, and a lot
more which i can't think of the names
for, but typical group names are:
kraftwerk, spock, faith no more, pink
floyd, the prodigy, ticket to
wonderland, devoid, bla bla bla, and
so on.....
i think that most tv-programs are
shit. i can not think of any tv-
program that i think is worth watching
(but i might just be in a werid mood)
programs like SYNK are interesting...
the best coders i know... hmmm, well,
maybe the guys who made red storm
(forgive me if i'm wrong, but i think
it was kf and alfatech). i can't think
of any graphician right now. my favie
musicians are hubbard and gray and
galway and daglish...... (they're the
best....) etc etc etc....
? have you got any last words?
! yep, i think that was the most
original question to ever ask in an
interview (really!!! :-)
to all my contacts: i'm sorry for
my delay (delay??? hmmm...) i will
start swapping again now... (i just
got a drive from zatt (great) and i'm
sitting in his home right now typing
this (so this is an exotic interview
...:-)). and a big hello to all c64
freaks i have known out there, and to
all i haven't met (yet?)....
ok, i must end this little thingy here
now....
