"THE LAST TRAKTOR III" FROM HORIZON
"THE LAST TRAKTOR III" FROM HORIZON
-----------------------------------
pos. at the democompetition: 1
the demo contains:
-----------------
* intro: some introducing graphics and
text
* a raytracing animation displayed in
some special eci-interlace mode
(featuring single colour resolution
with 7 grey colours)
* a realtime vector part, with fast
filled vectors + hidden line vectors
with plot transforming + glenz
vectors
* end-part: an upscroll with some kind
of single colour interlace
grades and comments:
-------------------
code by exilon+boogaloo+pernod of
horizon .................. 9.0
one intro, one end part, and only two
real parts - but they feature some
really amazing code.
gfx by pernod of horizon, joakim mar-
tensson, commodore ........ 6.5
some of the graphics is nice, but the
full-screen truck picture in the intro
and the unserious ruler logo in the
vector part are just ugly.
music by boogaloo of horizon, bappa-
lander of light ......... 7.5
some really pleasant tunes with nice
sounds and so on. one of boogaloo's
and one of bappalander's tunes are al-
ready released, but the other 2 tunes
are brand new to the scene.
design ........................... 6.5
the raytracing part is designed in a
cool way, but the 3 other parts are a
bit empty.
ideas ............................ 8.0
really nice amiga-inspired stuff, with
improvements of the ever-inspiring
subjects of raytracing and vector
graphics.
OVERALL .......................... 7.5
OVERALL .......................... 7.5
final remark:
------------
if you have any interest at all in
demos that are mainly made to show
coding skills, you have to get this!!

"CREST LIGHT" FROM CREST
"CREST LIGHT" FROM CREST
------------------------
pos. at the democompetition: ???
the demo contains:
-----------------
* intro: first some introducing stuff,
and then some all-border-cocacola-
styled gfx and a scroll
* credits part: a multi colour char
logo moving up and down besides a
single colour char upscroll, and
some sprites building up chars
behind the scroll
* a flexing and stretching afli (hires
fli) scroll with lots of different
moves
* 768 plots in realtime updating every
frame
* 20 megadycps without ora. press fire
on joy#2 to reach a menu, where you
can switch the different dycp'ers
on and off
* a 24 chars high 'endless bobs' rout
in the sideborder. you can change
between different sinuses by
pressing left arrow
* char fpp over an afli-techtech
(the techtech sinus doesn't move
more than a few chars.. made with
bankswitching!?)
* 25 chars high sideborderscroll, with
128 plots and a crest symbol in the
down border
grades and comments:
-------------------
code by crossbow+vision of crest . 6.5
not at all as good as people expected,
we guess. the only parts that manage
to keep the old crest style is the two
afli parts. the other parts seem to
be attempts to break some boring world
record that most people were tired of
a long time ago.
gfx by crossbow+slice+mac+vision of
crest, commodore .......... 7.0
logos and fonts in different graphics
formats, but still looking nice.
music by msk+drax+xayne+deek of
crest ................... 7.5
design ........................... 7.5
ideas ............................ 5.5
well, improved plot routines or dycp
parts are not really our idea of
"how to make an interesting demo in
the year of 1992". boring..
OVERALL .......................... 6.8
OVERALL .......................... 6.8
final remark:
------------
not the huge success most people were
expecting after having waited over one
year since "ice cream castle".

"WONDERLAND IX - A NEW BEGINNING"
"WONDERLAND IX - A NEW BEGINNING"
---------------------------------
FROM CENSOR DESIGN
FROM CENSOR DESIGN
------------------
pos. at the democompetition: 2
the demo contains:
-----------------
* intro: some introducing text and
animations
* another of t h o s e hardware
scrollers (this time showing you a
picture of a girl, and her eye in
the picture is animated) with a
multicolour scroll moving over it
* sample part with two logos moving
around, and a dycp
* strange scrollers (they're supposed
to look like they're bent around a
surface, but as they only can change
bending position for each char, they
end up looking ugly) + a colour-
moving thing that's bent in the same
way with lots of moves + sprite
balls moving around
* 8-bit sampling, and two x-moving
'splitted' scrollers that moves with
priority over each other
* while watching some text this part
is building up a few hires screens
with graphics looking like the
map for some platform game, and when
it is finished these screens are
moved in a hardware scroll
* turn-disk-over part
* two three-colour pictures besides
each other on the screen, that are
moving around in different x and y
directions
* another screen with 8-bit sampling,
with some screens with text and
graphics that are shown while
listening
* this is the sequel to a part in
'wonderland 7'. first it shows you a
picture standing still, and then it
gives up that picture and shows an
y-moving hardware scroll with five
other pictures (and with some ani-
mation on eddie's mouth on the first
screen)
grades and comments:
-------------------
(there are very few credits in this
demo, so we decided to skip the names
usually listed in each segment of the
grades.)
code ............................. 6.0
there's nothing wrong with the code as
it's made in an okay way to put to-
gether everything (show all the hires
pictures and play the sampled music
and so on), but you won't find any
kind of hard-coded routines in it.
graphics ......................... 8.0
the eddie pictures in the last part
and the girl with the eye in the first
part are really totally great.
the graphics in the first sampling
part (two logos+dycp) are really ugly,
and the rest of the demo contains some
rather average graphics.
music ............................ 7.5
it's cool that the sound effects in
some of the tunes are directly linked
to what's shown on the screen.
the music without samples (by danko?)
are not some of their best composi-
tions, most of the tunes in their last
few demos were better.
design ........................... 7.0
some of the hardware scroller parts
are designed in a great way, but some
of the other parts are not that good
designed.
ideas ............................ 6.0
OVERALL .......................... 6.9
OVERALL .......................... 6.9
final remark:
------------
some parts are not that ruling, but if
you like sample music and cool gfx
moving around in hardware scrolls, we
guess you'll find most parts in the
demo really great.
+------------------------------------+
"COMA LIGHT V" FROM OXYRON
"COMA LIGHT V" FROM OXYRON
--------------------------
pos. at the democompetition: ???
the demo contains:
-----------------
* intro: some text are shown with
a transformation routine that cal-
culates and plots the transformation
in realtime
* some fli-split-moving stuff called
"copper action"
* line vector graphics part with lots
of objects
* 3d plotball in realtime with 384
plots (and 384 more that are cal-
culated but hidden)
* realtime multi colour colourcycling
calculator
* colourful vertical splits routine
* very fast mandelbrot fractal cal-
culator, but the code seems to be
a bit limited as it only can cal-
culate fractals in two sizes
(the original size of the picture,
and a special zoom-size that cannot
be changed. there is a sprite window
that you can move around to select
what area of the original picture
you want zoomed, but you can't
change the size of this window or go
on to zoom further into an already
zoomed picture!)
* an afli plasma routine
* turn-the-disk part with a logofloffy
in realtime
* a single colour hires picture by
kirk
* another vector part, first showing
you a tv pyramid and then a tv cube
* realtime mutating hidden line rubber
vector
* lamer extermination part with a pic
by ego
* realtime chessboard zoom + a filled
vector cube
* plotscroll with up to 2048 plots..
however, in the two highest modes
(1536 and 2048 plots) the same part
of the scrolltext are displayed in
two different sinuses on two diffe-
rent parts of the screen
* 3d bob-ball with hidden bobs + a
dycp over a hires logo
* the end part
grades and comments:
-------------------
code by tts+caprix+graham+axis of
oxyron ................... 8.0
a bit different quality of the code in
the different parts, but lots of the
effects shown in this demo are really
cool.
gfx by kirk+yazoo+tts+ego+akc+graham
of oxyron ................. 6.5
music by p.r.i.+dave+andre of oxyron,
vernest of x-factor ..... 6.0
the tune by vernest is made exclu-
sively for oxyron.
design ........................... 6.0
most parts in the demo are built up by
an effect + a logo + a scroll. in some
of the parts, the coding effects are
not made in a way that looks really
good, either.
ideas ............................ 7.5
nothing really completely original,
but they manage to improve old ideas
in an interesting way (you know, not
just to break a record but to expand
the idea of a part) and put together
several old ideas to something new.
OVERALL .......................... 6.8
OVERALL .......................... 6.8
final remark:
------------
if you like demos with vector graphics
and transformation and fractal calc's,
you've got to get this one as the code
is great in some of the parts.
the graphics, music and design are not
that exceptional though.
+------------------------------------+
+------------------------------------+
now we are proud to present graphics
reviews for the first time in the long
history of this magazine!
we'll go through the top 10 pictures
from the gfx competition at the sams0
party.
(1) sensei / censor design
gfx format: multi colour hires picture
comment: a picture of a girl with a
gun, only painted with the 3 grey
colours. nice, but her hair and the
gun are painted a bit strange.
(2) pal / offence
gfx format: multi colour hires picture
comment: a picture of a naked angel,
lifting one of her hands to the sky.
looks much much better than sensei's
picture in our opinion.
(3) dragon / censor design
gfx format: multi colour hires picture
comment: a close-up picture of a
girl's face, without much colours, but
looking really realistic. several big
areas on the screen are just filled
with one colour, without using any
fill pattern at all.
(4) creeper / flash incorporated
gfx format: fli picture
-not reviewed 'cause he's a flash inc.
member-
(5) d.a. / sunrise
gfx format: multi colour hires picture
comment: a view of a city, with some
rocks and a tree in the foreground and
some skyscrapes in the background.
goodlooking, colourful!
(6) tch / brutal
gfx format: fli picture
comment: a picture of a skeleton
pirate trying to attack someone. cool,
but some of the stuff in tch's
"piction 1-2" gfx demos was better.
(7) ans / spirit
gfx format: fli with d016-flipping
interlace
comment: another picture of a naked
girl. the weird gfx-format makes the
picture flicker, but it also gives it
a high resolution which makes it look
really detailed (especially the face).
cool enough to have deserved a place
in the top 5 in our opinion.
(8) paladin / collision
gfx format: fli picture
comment: some strange, out-of-this-
world monster with a sword. cool, very
colourful and detailed. this should
also have been in the top 5.
(9) redwiz / offence
gfx format: multi colour hires picture
comment: another picture of a girl.
this one is not that special, and the
old pictures by redwiz in the "wiz up
and urp" demo was better.
(10) joe / antic
gfx format: multi colour hires picture
comment: an antic logo + a naked girl
lying down. the colour combinations
and filling are a bit strange on some
parts of the picture, but still ok.
