Comments from the Editor, 1st. June 1995
---------------------------------------------
WOW, AMAZING, INCREDIBLE, BMX-NINJA (That's where my
vocabulary runs out!!!) - it is hard to believe, but you are
actually holding a copy of the latest edition of THE PULSE -
the comeback edition.

The death of THE PULSE back in September 1994 came as a
shock to many, wondering what future the scene had in store
with one of the most stabile magazines out of business. But
do not dispair. The wonderous ways of the lord above (who?)
has made it possible for THE PULSE MAGAZINE to once again
work as your monthly source for news and entertainment. In
other words, we're back!
There has been many theories why THE PULSE stopped, but
the only true reason, was the one I announced upon declaring
THE PULSE as dead. THE PULSE required too much of my time
and energy, probably due to bad communication possibilities
like mail and phone, and the fact that I was left with doing
about 75% of the whole magazine on my own every month.

Due to my busy schedual, I was forced to make new priorities
(like many other sceners has had to do before me, it really is
not a new thing my friends). They said, that I was only able to
manage doing 50% of what I did before - which indicated THE
PULSE would lower in both quality as well as market-range -
and the danger that THE PULSE would become a magazine
constantly delayed showed its grim appearance!
People who know me, and who has been reading THE PULSE
from the very beginning, knew that I only wanted to release
and do THE PULSE if I could do it in its maximum state. Any
decrease in market-share, quality or popularity would mean
the end - those were my words then, and now. The popularity
never decreased, and we kept getting new readers, who
noticed THE PULSE as an important and stabile life-line to
the scene - as well as an institute that kept the scene
organized. Even our respected colleagues and competitors
at PROPAGANDA, REVEALED, REFORMATION and VANDALISM
NEWS noticed our work, and regreted the loss of it.

But now we are back, hopefully as strong and creative as
when we last came across your screen with a brand new edition.
The reason for this surprising and contriversial comeback is
quite simple, the internet. Previously we had to communicate
through mail and phone/modem, but now the editorial can
exchange ideas and reports through the internet - making the
editorial at THE PULSE one of the best, fastest and most
reliable in the scene today.

When we released THE PULSE in the past, it was always on
time, made available for everyone in the beginning of every
month. This comeback edition is slightly delayed though, but
bringing something back, that requires as much organisation
as this magazine, is bound to take a lot of time. Now that we
have a reliable staff - and a solid program, we can promise
you THE PULSE in the beginning of every month.
Before putting my signature on this opening statement, I would
like to thank everyone for their support through the years
of making THE PULSE a solid news organisation in the scene.
I hope all of you, the readers, will keep supporting this
magazine - and also the C64 (let's get it on guys, can't let
this beauty fall asleep!!!) - in any shape or form. With the
right amount of support, you can be sure to get the best of
news and entertainment every month.

I would like also like to express my humble thanks to the
better part of THE PULSE, the ever so flexible and brave
staff - especially my partner CROSSFIRE. A solid handshake
must go out to the new additions to this magazine, in hope
for a great future together - here at THE PULSE, a place
you can be sure not to fall asleep while working (HEH). I hope
having participated in doing this edition has not scared you
away - good editors are so hard to find these days :)

Finally a friendly (wink, wink) salute to our colleagues at our
beloved rival magazines. Thanks for sitting in guys, we'll take
it from here (HEH).

Being a member of the scene is not a right, it is a privelidge.
Do not take the scene for granted, but nurture and feed it
with instinctive ideas and creative contributions.

NEWS JOURNAL - THE MONTHLY HEADLINES
     ---------------------------------------
We bring you another update on the current scene situation,
as it looks in the eyes of the News Journal reporters. Be sure
to join us monthly, for an inside look at the scene happenings
brought to you by competent scene reporters.

News Journal is looking for new reporters to assist us in our
monthly news reports. If you have a good insight on the scene
happenings, we would be happy to talk to you about joining
our staff. Look for our addresses in PREFACE.

This month the news was gathered by CROSSFIRE, and edited
by General Editor DUKE.
- THE PULSE MAGAZINE is back in show-business after a 9
month break. The reason for this surprising comeback, is the
discovery of the internet. Most of the editors involved with
THE PULSE is on the worldwide net, making it a lot easier for
future editions to be released. THE PULSE is not back for
good as some may think, it is more likely back to survey the
market. "If the scene can bring back some of its former
strenght, and help the media report about it, we will have no
problem sticking around for the long run" DUKE explains.
THE PULSE is now released as an independent media, meaning
REGINA is dead and burried. "I saw no reason to bring back
REGINA, as my ambitions to do something else but THE PULSE
is long gone" DUKE explained. The coder of THE PULSE,
DR.ZIVAGO, decided to quit the C64 to begin coding on the PC.
- The scene welcomes a brand new group, NEMESIS, one that
would appear quite promising judging by its members. Mainly
considering of old PANDORA members, such as ATTRACTION,
SKY and MEPHISTO, it looks to be a group of the good old
PANDORA style. Also IMPERATOR/ex.SHARKS, AMPUTATOR/
ex.POISON and LONGDRINK/ex.EXCESS joined up to give the
group some different impulses. We look forward to seeing if
this group will be more motivated than the slightly inactive
PANDORA, which died months ago.

- MOTIV 8 has been extremmely busy in the last couple of
months, and looks to be mounting an army to bring back earlier
times greatness. STONE/ex.DYTEC (internet-courier and
mail-trader) joined up after the death of DYTEC.
THE PSYCHOPATH/ex.BRONX returned to the C64-scene
after venturing the PC-scene for about a year. He decided
to join up with MOTIV 8 as a backup cracker. MIZAR/ex.G*P
and EMPIRE also joined up with MOTIV 8, and brought along
his board INTERTRADE. He was supposed to work as a hacker,
courier and sysop for MOTIV 8, but was busted only a few
days after joining. According to MIZAR, he was turned in by
his mother in law - who MIZAR claims hates his guts. He remains
a member of MOTIV 8 though, and will hopefully be back in
action soon. As a result of his encounter with the law,
INTERTRADE has been taken down temporarily, but is planned
to be put back up with a new 1-800 number in the near future.
Another American joined the ranks of MOTIV 8 this month,
BINJINX, an old and famous cracker from the legendary
EAGLE SOFT INC. He returned to the scene to join up, and
equipped with the CROSSFIRE modded C*Base V3.5 he plans
to open a board in the states in the near future. Sideways he
will operate as a hacker, internet-courier and cracker, when
that should be actual. A few old MOTIV 8 names returned to
bring back some of the old colours back to the group. ICEBALL
re-joined after a short visit to FAIRLIGHT for two weeks.
Reason for leaving MOTIV 8 in the first place was inactivity,
but with the moral being higher in the group these days, he
decided to rejoin. The American GREGO turned active again
after a break of 6 months, and updated his board IN LIVING
COLOR. The board was online during his absence, but has
lacked a lot of activity due to GREGO's break. Another
American in the group is said to still be in the ranks of M8.
NATAS, who is also a member of the American fixing group
ARISTOCRACY, is still a member, despite the rumours about
him leaving the scene. Returning to Europe, MASON is said
to be calling out in the near future, and EDDIE opened a PC-
board for the PC-section of MOTIV 8. The board also has a
section for C64-transfers, and can be reached at: +49/511-
7241355. To conclude a busy period of MOTIV 8 happenings,
CROSSFIRE stated that GOSSIP was not released under the
MOTIV 8 label as stated in SHOUT. Although MERLIN/M8 is
involved with GOSSIP, the magazine is also written by members
of other groups, and has been announced as independent a
long time ago anyway.

- The most promising group of the year, ONSLAUGHT, teamed
up with the German group HARDCORE to give SCS+TRC a bit of
competition as a co-operation. The start for ONSLAUGHT was
somewhat difficult, as several groups appear hostile towards
it. A federation against ONSLAUGHT was formed at the X-95
party in Holland held by SCS+TRC. Groups part of the
federation are AVANTGARDE (mainly DEFF), F4CG (why they
are a part is a mystery to ONSLAUGHT), ALPHA FLIGHT
(most of the group) and ANGRY. A childish and subjective
"Fuck you ONSLAUGHT" screen was produced by the
federation, and planned to be put in front of the releases by
the involved groups. ONSLAUGHT's co-op partners,
HARDCORE, takes offense to the federation, and stated that
any enemy of ONSLAUGHT, is an enemy of theirs.
It was not all bad news from the ONSLAUGHT+HARDCORE
front, as a band of sceners were signed on to the growing
alliance. VOLUNTEER and RAGE (better known as SNOOZE/
ex.BRONX) joined up with HARDCORE. VOLUNTEER will operate
as a swapper and supplier, and RAGE as a cracker. JASON and
DOOM/ex.MOTIV 8 joined up with ONSLAUGHT after a long
period of being groupless. According to JAZZCAT they are
both only on trial, but rumours has it they were only accepted
to pay for cards. The last member to join the ranks of the
co-operation, was the Australian GRIZE/ex.SHAZAM who
joined up with ONSLAUGHT, but will remain a member of his
own built group DARKSIDE sideways.
Meanwhile, THE HEGG left ONSLAUGHT to spent more time on
his own group BAD KARMA. BALANCE from Hungary was kicked
out of ONSLAUGHT because of inactivity, while RAZE and
HI-LITE was removed from the memberstatus - also due to
inactivity. VENGEANCE/ONSLAUGHT decided to join up with
the newly returned MEGASTYLE PRODUCTIONS as his second
group - he will operate as a trader. The struggle between
ONSLAUGHT and ALPHA FLIGHT about which group the German
cracker IGNORANCE had joined appears to be over. Both
parties claimed him as a member, but as it turned out he was a
member of both - but decided to leave ONSLAUGHT to ease
the discussion, and can now only be found in the ranks of
ALPHA FLIGHT. LA STYLE/ex.GENESIS PROJECT returned
to the scene and made a surprising comeback, already
cracking some games for [O+H]. Other oldies are said to make
the same move as him in the future, let's wait and see.
Another ONSLAUGHT board is probably on its way to be put
online. The name is said to be LIQUID PALACE, and the sysop
will be SPHERE/ONSLAUGHT. Many other happenings were
reported from the co-operation front, one of which was a
confusing tale on the where-abouts of MAJESTY. According
to STAKE/ONSLAUGHT, MAJESTY has strangely disappeared,
but is presumed to still be in the states. ONSLAUGHT could
announce the start of a seperate demo-section, but this one
only connected to ONSLAUGHT. The name of this section, will
be ONSLAUGHT DESIGN - and demos are expected in the near
future. STAKE/ONSLAUGHT told News Journal, how COUNT
ZERO was not a member of ONSLAUGHT. "He only does some
exclusive fixing for us now and again". MIDFIT/TRSI also
fixes for ONSLAUGHT, but is like COUNT ZERO not a member.
- The Germans in ALPHA FLIGHT was accused of re-cracking
by ONSLAUGHT. Supposively the re-cracked gane was the
"MISFORTUNE preview", which was ONSLAUGHT's debut
release. ALPHA FLIGHT claimed to have gotten the original
from SPLATTERHEAD/SCS+TRC, but sofar nothing has been
proven. The former MOTIV 8 member PEACEMAKER decided to
leave the scene, since he was fed up with the hassles of
defending his fixes. During a long period, his fixes has been
criticised by some, and apparently it has brought him to a
conclusion that the scene is nolonger worth it. SHUZE left
CHROMANCE in order to join up with ALPHA FLIGHT, and the
American hacker and phreaker, MUTANT-X also joined up.
The final words to come out of AFL, was the enjoyment of the
return of SKINHEAD and SKID ROW, who left AVANTGARDE.
- With the global interest in ONSLAUGHT, DYTEC died. The
reason of the death could be caused by some of the members
prefering ONSLAUGHT, atleast DODGER joined up with the new
and successful international group. The rest of DYTEC lost
interest in the C64 or took on more work in their PC-section.
DYTEC never really got settled on the C64, after breaking up
with TRSI it has been downhill from there.

- F4CG has had a slow period, taking time to consider life
after the sad death of SCOPE. Apparently he was pushed out
infront of a train to his certain death, after a wild night in
the town together with his group-mate MOTLEY. Other
unfortunate news hit F4CG, although not with any deaths,
as BITMAN was busted for hacking internet-accounts.
- CHROMANCE also had a long quiet period, but lately things
started to happen in this ancient old cracking-group. A couple
of members were added to the memberstatus, with ACCEPT
DESIGN splitting up to join CHROMANCE. Rumours has it
though, that some of the members have left to team up with
the demo-group OXYRON instead, but nothing is yet confirmed.
The good old leader MR.WAX is still active for CHROMANCE,
having put some releases on the streets lately. Although he
is in the army, along with JAZZY-D by the way, he is still able
to organise the group, using the 3 days he has at home a week.
The CHROMANCE HQ in the states, EDGE OF MIDNIGHT,
is still down. Talking to sysop RUG RAT we were notified, that
he was thinking about setting up a PC-board, but he made sure
to add, that the C64 would always be in his mind as well.
Until anything else happens on this front, THE HIGHWAY is
the only place CHROMANCE hangs out at the moment. EDGE OF
MIDNIGHT is still down, the sysop RUG RAT is still busy with
installing OMNI-128 on his board. CHROMANCE was able to
announce the signing of a couple of new names, JAYDEE and
JANEE. JAYDEE is a cracker, former known as ASSAILANT/
ex.HEARTBEAT. JANEE is a Hungarian original supplier.
CHROMANCE is working on other fields but cracking these
days, announcing a short demo to be released soon, code by
ZAR, with graphics by LORD RED/CREATORS. The concluding
news from CHROMANCE this month, was the grim rumour of
ALPHA FLIGHT re-cracking NUTS from CHROMANCE. It was
released under the fake-label of GULAS a long time ago, but
MR.WAX fixed many bugs and released it under the
CHROMANCE label later. This Hungarian original has never
been spread to anyone, therefore making it very likely that
the game was re-cracked.

- AVANTGARDE has had a rather slow period, but still managed
to better themselves by adding a few members to the group.
The American CHAMELEON, former member of DOMINATORS
and sysop of DIVINE ULTIMATUM, teamed up with the Germans
in AVANTGARDE. DEFF managed to persuade him that joining
was the right choice for him. DIVINE ULTIMATUM, which was
said to return ages ago, still did not get back online. After
some quarrels on whether or not ELIMINATOR was in AVT or
ONSLAUGHT, he decided to stick with AVANTGARDE. A couple
of magazines printed that one of AVANTGARDE's latest
members, SUICIDE, was a member of ONSLAUGHT, but that is
incorrect. The editor of THE TRIBUNE, NASTINESS INC., left
AVANTGARDE in order to form a new group named ANGRY. THE
TRIBUNE is expected to continue running under this new label.
The American board DREAM PARK, home of AVANTGARDE,
F4CG and PROPAGANDA is finally online 24 hours again,
and can be reached at 619-788-6615. Through all of these
happenings, the struggles between AVANTGARDE and
AIRWOLF team continues, both parties still hostile towards
eachother.

- EXCESS lost a couple of members, MR.RAGE and SENTINEL,
who left the group. Meanwhile EXCESS added a new HQ in the
U.S. called ILLUSIONS, sysop'ed by an old member of FUSION.
- As BACCHUS decided to drop the leadership of FAIRLIGHT,
he passed it onto SLEDGE, who accepted it with pleasure.
Meanwhile, MOONCHILD/FATUM teamed up with the group.

- NOICE signed on two new coders, by the name of ORGANIC
and PANTALOON, both former members of PARADIZE.

- SCORPION/ex.CONTEX returned to the scene and joined
the up with THE SHARKS. He will most surely compose a tune
for the BYTERAPERS-demo at the Assembly'95.

- BIZ KID/ex.OXYRON joined up with the Danes on CAMELOT.
Whether or not his magazine SKYHIGH will be released under
the label of CAMELOT is yet unknown.
- D'ARC/TOPAZ got out of the Finnish army and returned to
the scene. He released a news-letter explaining his current
situation, including detailed reasons for his lack of interest
in keeping in touch with the C64-scene during his army days.
In short, it was caused by laziness, D'ARC says.

- TROOPER/AGONY returned to the scene, and changed his
handle into SONOR. The new METAMORPHOSIS should be right
on the stairs from him.

- MEGASTYLE INC. has returned with a bit of a name-change
now, since they call themselves MEGASTYLE PRODUCTIONS
instead. All the old members is said to return to the group
again, even CYCLEBURNER. - That's all folks!

It is my pleasure, DUKE, to welcome the World Of Demo staff;

TECHNET 2 by SAMAR (REVIEW)
-------------------------
MR.SEX about the coding,
Hmm... A new demo by SAMAR. Well, I have to admit that this one
is the very first demo I saw from that group. But that's mainly
because I'm a very inactive swapper. Ok, let's have a look...
After a few tries I came to the conclusion, that either my copy
of the demo was damaged or there is a bug in the first part,
because that picture just kept flickering with some random
dots depending what was in the memory. Well, after the usual
introduction some quite nice filled vector-objects pop up,
and some of them are even GLENZ and RUBBER. Well, nothing
very special or fast. But reasonable. Next comes a picture,
and then you are forced to watch UNLIMITED BOBS in bitmap.
I have to say that this is maybe the most boring part of this
demo, it is just shown too long. And the movements are no good
at all, but after patient waiting we see the MORPHING part.
Well, this better should be called transforming lines and
haven't you seen those too many times before? What's next?
Realtime ZOOMER ofcourse, which is presented in dithered
characters this time. Looks reasonable. After some more
pictures we see some colour-movements, which someone calls
PLASMA, but this is by far real Plasma! And then the demo is
over. This one was overall quite average. Nothing very special
nor something very bad. Ah, did I forget to mention it is a
trackmo? Yeah, it is...

55% for the coding..
EARTHQUAKE about the graphics,
The demo starts with some IFLI-graphics (which bugs on an old
C64 by the way), followed by a very well-styled hires-logo
telling the name of the demo. Next to come is some sort of
background-graphics in bitmap-mode, which I presume was just
drawn to fill the screen - atleast it looks very.. Strange!
After that, they surprise us with a nice IFLI-picture, which
shapes and outlines are very well drawn, but NYLU, who is the
artist responsible for that. Perhaps he could have made use
of some more colours. At all, I think I'll give it...

45% for the graphics..

SYNDROM about the music,
Well, it all starts with some slow chords followed by some flut
melodies. After some time the tune gets faster and SCARLET
who composed this tune, uses some nice harmonies, but a VERY
ugly lead-instrument. The next song was composed by him, too
and sounds rather silly. Just listen to some commercial chart-
music, put some childish harmonies on it and you'll know what
I'm talking about. After that there comes another attempt to
do "techno"-music on the c64, but I guess it didn't take
RAMOS more than 15 minutes to do this. Furthermore there are
3 more tunes, all composed by PRAISER, which sound quite ok.
Nothing special though, but you can listen to them without
getting sick. All in all I give...
                                 41% for the music...
The next target is:

THE GREAT KLOAKKMAN by MEGASTYLE PRODUCTIONS
------------------------------------------
MR.SEX about the coding,
Hell, when I heard MSP is back I prepared to see real good
code and design. Time passed and I got hold of that demo, but
was it as good as I thought?
Naah, I was a bit disappointed. Ok, the introduction is quite
usual and after some text they present you unexpanded DYCP
in lower borders. Amazing? Not! The next part comes after
pressing space and it turns out to be the note. How clever to
put the note into the demo. Well, all in all it looks quite nea
mainly because of those nicely falling characters.
Again space and we see a true FLI-mover with 2 scrolls in the
lower border changing priority. No need to say it's unreadable.
Next comes 256 pixels high DYCP over a bitmap picture, which
we already know from the small comeback-demo which got
released some months ago. Before we reach the final part,
there come RGB-rasters which look... ehrm. Ok, the last part
is the new SCROLL RECORD. It contains 122043 bytes of text
packed into the memory. Well, if you like to read long scroller
this is just for you. But to be honest, it is not hard to beat
until you have to write such a big amount of text.
You have to notice that most of the routines in that demo
were coded years ago. So, no wonder why it wasn't as good as
some have been expecting after DIGITAL MESSIAH and
other cool products. I'm sure that SCROLL is capable of much
better stuff than this demo. Let's wait and we will hopefully
see something real good.

EARTHQUAKE about the graphic,
The guys from MSP bring the original C64-demo-style back
onto your screen. SPARKLER did an extremely good job with
his two pictures in the FLI-SCROLLER-part. Too bad that
this is the only highlight of the whole demo. The comic-picture
is okay as it wasn't ment to be serious...
The image included in the Mega-DYCP-part seems very strange
to me. There is only one original fade-in/out (the kloakman-
picture), but I still would rank the whole production as better
standard, because old sceners may be entertained by it's
nostalgia.

SYNDROM about the music,
Well, the demo starts with some spheric sounds giving a very
special atmosphere. This one was composed by RAGE and
reminds me on the few tunes they used in their great demo
DIGITAL MESSIAH. After a funny shortie by LIZARD follows
another one of that kind, composed by RAGE again. Seems
that he likes that style - and he really did a good job! Next t
come is an average tune by LIZARD, but remember that all
music in this demo is VERY old and probably would have been
highly ranked some years ago. But hey, after some time that
tune has a break and turns into something disco-like, nice
main-theme at all. After that we have to hear some 5 years old
music by SCROLL, which is full of changes, but you cannot
avoid to hear some abuse of gliding. Next one is by SCROLL
too, and it is one of those typical tunes you hear in a lot of
old demos, guess it was the fashion not to use chords but to
split them off. Anyway, this one seems very unfinished as it's
just one theme lasting about 25 seconds. The last music was
composed by SPACE-ROY but already used before and
therefore won't be reviewed - at all it's just some 15 seconds
long. Hmm, if MSP gets it's musicians active again, we surely
can expect some outstanding music, too bad that the music
used in this demo was a bit oldfashioned.

On we go, let's have a look at;

RADIO NAPALM by REFLEX
---------------------
MR.SEX about the coding,
Yeah, this is the winning demo from X-95. Others didn't have
any chance to compete against them and the PC-dudes were
once more amazed by the abilities of the C64. Propably every-
one has seen this excellent trackmo, but now let's go to the
review. The demo starts with a logo swinging to the screen and
then we have the opportunity to see GRAVITYDOTS once
again. Now they form the word 'presents', but the first real
effect is a VECTOR object familiar from ACCESS DENIED which
zooms in nicely for a few seconds, but is precalculated.
4*4 pixel FLI mode is used in that demo too. The first one is
WAVESEQUENCE, which looks really nice. After showing this
for a while, the precalculated complex vectors are back. This
time in the shape of a spaceship and ofcourse in bitmap, which
makes them quite slow but still great looking.
The speed of the demo is very fast and we gonna move on to
the next effect which is some kind of falling pixel-lines. Afte
a few seconds you can see the REFLEX logo becoming visible
and then you will see more vectors again. GOURAUD VECTOR
CUBE is presented next and I must admit that it looks really
cool especially because of DITHERING. Do you care if it's
precalculated? The next effects are again in the familiar 4*4
resolution, first comes a REFLEX logo rotator, then a twister
and so on. These are familiar from WOC3 but are speeded up
by not adding waves. Well, all in all they look good. Uh,
suddenly after more than 6 seconds of black screen comes a
CHESSBOARD ZOOMER with 3 planes. Again it is very good
looking and before the greetings you have to watch PLASMA.
Well, this is a real good demo and probably the best in 1995 so
far. I really enjoyed watching it. Hopefully these dudes will
make a demo for Assembly'95 too. Oh, I almost forgot to
mention that all coding was done by QUISS.
90% for the coding ...

EARTHQUAKE about the graphic,
In this small production by QUISS you can admire many colorful
and nice effects in the 4*4 resolution - graphic is hard to be
found. I like the intro most, as styling, music and FELIDAE's
picture fit together very well. Nevertheless - the picture
standing alone wouldn't be something special at all. The linkin
of the seperate effects was handled well and makes this demo
an Amiga-intro-lookalike. I'm looking forward to the next
demorelease by REFLEX with more artwork, hopefully.
Rating for the graphic: 55% ...

SYNDROM about the music,
The music in this demo was composed by PVCF, it's one long
tune just synchronised with the demoeffects. The first thing
I noticed are these nasty filterclicks, I bet he forgot to fix
his snaredrum-instrument. Well, the tune itself is placed in
the techno-corner too, the beginning is quite ok, only some
bass-sounds combined with some ringmodulation, later a very
fast rythm starts and, hmm - the bassdrum is not up to todays'
standards. The harmonies are simple - but still good enough
to give the tune a kind of feeling. All in all - I know that he
can do better - let's wait for the next demo.

another X-95 release waits to be released, so here we go with;

W.O.I.I.F.T.D. by F4CG
-----------------
MR.SEX about the coding,
What a name for a demo, but what else could you expect when
F4CG makes a demo, releases it at X-95 and even becomes 2nd!
Heheh... this even is a kind of trackmo. Ok, the start is quite
promising and after some text an F4CG logo swings to the
screen and a vector-chessboard pops up. Quite good for a
cracking group, eh? Then some dots come to flicker while
loading then next part which turns out to be 'Attack to the
FLT-hq'... haha, good joke, but I personally didn't like that
slagging on FLT, especially pissing on them :)
Next to come is a nice IFLI-picture by SCOPE who accidentally
died a few months ago. That's it. A very short production with
very little code but hey this is no serious production or shoul
it have been one? Because it was dedicated to the memoriam of
SCOPE I give

                                          ...more
EARTHQUAKE about the graphic,
The trackmo starts wit some sefl-centered words by the
producers followed by a flying-logo animation. The filling of
the F4CG logo is of average quality, somehow it could fit
better to the chars' outlines. Some animated windmills show
patriotism guess to what country? Now follow 2 parts
expressing some unpleasant feelings to FLT. First a man bombs
the FLT-hq in 'Scenetown' and a quite bad animated bigdick-
baby is walking and finally urinating onto an FLT-logo. Well,
the authors explain that they are no way in war with FLT ?!
Anyway, the endpicture shows Paulina Porizkova in IFLI using
just a few colors. If it is an own creation it is rather good.

SYNDROM about the music,
DECODER is the topic, as he is responsible for the intromusic.
Well, every time when I hear a music by him I cannot do else bu
think he is using sounds made by DANKO. Anyway, the music
starts with some nice harmonies and a melody comes in which
gives the whole tune a funny aspect. Later a drumsequence is
added to give the tune more power. Sounds okay at all. The
second tune is made by DECODER too, just starting with some
2-voice chord-splitting followed by a nice melody, but still
keeping the tune at a calm level. Oh, what do I have to hear ?
when the drum comes in, it makes 'click'...'click'... and so on
the snare drum is it, what fucks up the filter. Leading to a

Coming to the last one, we speak about;

PARTS by OXYRON
---------------
MR.SEX about the coding,
Yeah, OXYRON is back in the shape of GRAHAM again. They
thought to release this demo at the X-95-democompetition, but
they couldn't show up due to a lost in RRR's family. This demo
could have ended very high, but sometimes life is a bitch...
Ok, the demo starts with a nice introduction and then comes
the VECTORCITY which was actually coded before Tribute'94,
atleast he showed it to someone there. Quite nice indeed,
especially as there are even windows in those buildings. The
next one is a SPHERICAL PROJECTION in multicolor with 4
colors. Looks really cool and is much btter than the one in
COMALIGHT 12. GRAHAM thinks that noone can make a better
version. Well, the faces are projected nicely to the ball and
movement is smooth (2 frames, 15*15 chars), so what else do we
want? hmm... why not rotating around all 3 axis...? :)
Space and the next one is in. According to GRAHAM it is the
best thing ever done on the C64 and nothing else than an
XY-FLEXER. I must agree that this looks really good. The
pictures were converted from amiga (or was it PC?) to 32*20
chars with 4 colors. The movements are nice and so on. But
what does that make so best? Anyway, it's really clever usage
of $d011 and $d018, but I wouldn't call it the best thing ever.
No hard feelings... Yep, that was all in PARTS. GRAHAM showed
that he is capable of real good coding and we will see more coo
products from OXYRON in the future. Let's hope they make it
to the assembly this year.
85% for the coding...

EARTHQUAKE about the graphic,
This 'old-school' demo features mostly scanned graphics
converted from the amiga. Though, RRR did a good, unspec-
tacular skyline in Koala. There are also some bitmap-logos in
the presentation but nevertheless you can forget the rest
relating to creativity and orignality. With a cool styling this
demo would have been a real kicker for everyone, not mainly
for coders only. I hope that OXYRON find the way back to the
path they went on with their COMALIGHT 12, because
presentation (design, gfx, music) is very important for a demo.

SYNDROM about the music,
Hmm, too bad that all music used in this demo has been used
before and will therefore not been reviewed. I just wonder why
GRAHAM could not wait for some PRI music but wanted to finish
the demo as fast as possible (as PRI told me). Anyway, I only
give rankings for the musicial feeling GRAHAM showed when
choosing the tunes, which were composed by ROB HUBBARD,
JEFF and JCH, by the way... But those won't exceed 20%, as it
would be more then unfair against groups using exclusive or
own music. Therefore;

+ SATIRICA - THE AUTOPSY OF THE SCENE +
       -------------------------------------
Welcome to the worst pyle of shit written since the day JESUS
sat down with a couple of bankers to finance his new book.
You have entered the domains of SATIRICA, the place where
anything can happen - and do happen. This is where we have
no restraints, but a vivid imagination. SATIRICA is satire that
bites hard, put together by General Editor DUKE.

The stories included in SATIRICA are pure fiction and based
on a satiric state of mind. We do not want to offend anyone,
but simply pass on a smile in these trying times of depression
worldwide. SATIRICA is the original satiric chapter, accept
no cheap imitation - life is too short!
- The Royalty without a crown, BOD/TALENT, was spotted at
a PULITZER PRICE award ceremony in London last week, being
thrown put by the guards. BOD was appauled, as he explained
on a conference how he was to receive a PULITZER PRICE
award, but was mistaken by the guards for a homeless person -
"Just because I like to dress different" BOD said. To the big
surprise for BOD, he noticed his invitation card said - "We
welcome you to receive a PULIT SURPRISE award". I am
appauled anyone can pull such a joke on me, said an angry BOD
to the majority of the British tabloid. Meanwhile, RICHIE was
seen standing at the door, wearing nothing but a roofer hat -
chanting "Hahaha... Now who looks silly".

9. You discover that nobody ever heard about your magazine
before - stating "Oye, wasn't that the name of some fake
    group?".

8. Your magazine never made it to the top 10 when it was
    previously released.
7. You forgot what writing a magazine was all about - and ends
up doing a biography of your long lost dog.

6. Your former staff-members have become happily married with
children (Heeeyyy BUNDY!) and a full-time job. They tell
    you "Great, good luck".

5. To your horror, you discover that there is already 7 mags

4. You forgot to calculate with the fact, that doing a magazine
    actually takes time!

3. The scene is dead! (HEEELLLOO, anyone there?).
2. The mailman starts demanding money for having to rent a

gone into business together, apparently to strenghten their
love-relationship. DEFF explained to the General editor of
SHOUT, BEN DOVER, how he had always wanted to start a
restaurant - and when NTI offered to pay for the whole thing,
in return for a full membership in AVT, he just couldn't resist
the offer. NTI was just as pleased as DEFF, stating on a
conference, that he always dreamed of being a member of a
real C64 group! DEFF eagerly told BEN DOVER about the plans
for the restaurant, and emphasized strongly how it was not
comparable to PARSON's restaurant SINGLE MEN OF THE 90's
which went through a lot of scandals featuring in the SUPER
SKINHEAD stories. "I would never call my restaurant
something as low as that, which is why I decided to call it -
FUK EM', being a Chinese restaurant and all". The restaurant
is expected to feature in a MICKEY MOUSE trilogy in the
latest SHOUT. Back to you BEAVIS :)

"Arrghh.. Why you little...".

As if the story was not complete with crazy elements, we just
received breaking news. Apparently NTI was kicked out of AVT
for some odd reason. Rumour has it, THE MISTRESS bribed
DEFF, sending him a full body picture of herself in the nude
if NTI was allowed into AVANTGARDE. After having received
this picture, DEFF kicked out NTI, who got ANGRY - and
formed a group of the same name.. Well!?! It's Nasty alright!
NATURES CORNER - WATCHING CHICKS THROW UP
  ------------------------------------------
Welcome dear readers, to another episode of Natures Corner,
with your favourite host - POWERPLANT of LEGEND.

(Scattered applause).

Yes, thank you. It is great to be back on the road with the
infamous Natures Corner. This month I've invited an American
scener, known for possibly having the biggest failure of a
career, succeeding in being in numorous known groups - but
with no personal achievements to show for it, other than
having written a few thousand scroll-texts (like most of the
U.S. sceners today really?). Please welcome, THOR of GLORY.
PWP: Welcome George. First question is a tricky one. Have you
ever seen a grown man naked?

THR: Well, no. I am a virgin. My religion forbids sex with any
individual, male or animal, before I am married to he or
it - or even that. I am a true Conservative you know!!

PWP: Great answer, I like that one. Maybe we can get together
after this interview and.. Erhm.. George, final question.
Have you ever seen the inside of a Turkish prison?

THR: A what? Surely you must be joking?

PWP: Get out of my cage, and don't call me Shirley!
- CROSSBOW has hit the American money market, splitting up
CREST into inexpensive shares to be sold on Wall Street.
Appearing on the MONEY WHEEL on NBC SUGAR CHANNEL,
CROSSBOW explained how the shares had been torn away by
interested buyers. Analysts claim that some people have
started speculating in the inactivity of CROSSBOW and CREST
as a whole. Considering it has been over 3 years since the
last CROSSBOW demo, it might be a good idea to speculate in
another 3 years of no new productions from the old legend. To
help their speculations get successful, the shareholders have
encouraged CROSSBOW to take a longer break - telling him to
"Slow down, take it easy, life is too short, give those keys a
rest" among other requests. A pleased CROSSBOW stated to
the press "Great, finally someone appreciates my inactivity!!".
- The internet has proven to be the place for the modern C64
scener, giving them a golden opportunity to trade wares with
other sceners currently stationed daily on the net. But it
appears some sceners have had some slight problems finding
the proper channels which represented the C64 scene.
Apparently BURGLAR got stuck in the popular channel
"Negrosex", founded by BOD of TALENT. BURGLAR stated in
a SUCCESS news telegram, how he was appauled by the sexual
advances BOD had made on him during his stay at NEGROSEX.
"I can't believe BOD prefers this from the C64-scene, atleast
now we know where he's been hidding the last couple of years".
Luckily most sceners found their way to the C64-channel, one
of which was MR.WARP who declined the latest stuff, stating -
"Oh, that's too bad, I was looking for a big pyle of crap!?!".
- MR.SEX and MR.DICK of THE BYTERAPERS was accused for
being sex-maniacs, and was put under great preasure by the
Finish board of Censors to change their handles. A shocked
MR.DICK told the Finish national TV station, CUNT TV, how his
name did not mean DICK - as in PENIS, but it was short for
"Dope Is Cool Kid". The board of Censors was thrilled about
that explanation, expressing the importance in the younger
Finish generation having good role-models to look up to.
MR.SEX could not justify his name though, but almost saved
the situation when he shouted "You old bitch, I'm called
MR.SEX because I like to bonk old Censor ladies". Well done!

- Meanwhile at the house of JAZZCAT/ONSLAUGHT
"No old ladies for me, I'll take the dingos!".
- RADAR, member of The DOMINATORS on the PC, was spotted
at a German hospital Tuesday evening. The doctors explained,
how RADAR succeeded in breaking 99% of all the bones in his
body, trying to mail a letter bomb through a fax machine.
RADAR was always the creative hacker type of person, in love
with warring - but was not always as lucky with his attempts,
as most of us knew from his ventures on the C64 scene. The
Doctors told LOWLIFE magazine, that RADAR should be ready
to go home in the beginning of next week (he heals pretty
quick!). "Hopefully RADAR has learned something from this
experience, I mean, this is the 3rd time he tries to squeeze
Napalm into a fax machine" the Doctors explained.

"OH NO, FLYING SUITCASES IS CRASHING THE PLACE!!!!".
- The Tasmanian devil VENGEANCE has announced he will be
taking up Australian rugby. The reasons were unclear to begin
with, but an Australian tabloid magazine uncovered what was
to be the scam of the century. Apparently VENGEANCE wanted
to play Rugby, only to get injured so badly, that he was forced
to stay home for the next couple of months - getting money
from the insurance he already cleverly arranged for. An
embarrased VENGEANCE admitted to his devious plan, crying
out loud "How the hell do you expect me to make VANDALISM
NEWS the number one magazine when THE PULSE is back -
I need all the time in the world!!". Heh, heh, hi MATT!

- Meanwhile at the house of NEWSCOPY/F4CG
"If time was at issue, I would have never made a magazine!".

Profile

    + THE JUNE PROFILE - A TALENTED ROCKSTAR +
     ----------------------------------------
Welcome back to another interesting look at the scene walk of
fame, where we will move the spotlight on some of the biggest
stars to have enjoyed the scene with their rich personalities.

This months guest is in every meaning of the word one of the
greatest sons of the scene. He started his career in the very
beginning of the C64-scene, and is still around to tell the
tales of his many achievements. He has been a household
name in the charts for as long as anyone can remember, and he
remains respected by the many who enjoyed his work through
his career. It is with great pride we welcome one of the unsong
hero's of the scene. Please welcome, ROCKSTAR of TALENT.
[D] Welcome ROCKSTAR. You are truly one of the great sons
of the C64 scene, and undoubtedly respected by all sceners
who have ever had any relation with the illegal scene. Please
tell the readers a little about what you've been up to the last
couple of years - since you've been away from the scene.

[R] Well for one thing, during that time I've probably moved
houses more often than BOD/TALENT has changed his phone
number, haha! Basically, I've been busy studying at the
university in HELSINKI and taking full advantage of what
being of the minority gender at our department can offer.
Also, I've gotten back to my beloved sport of the Kings, as
some of you know, tennis. In a couple of months I may even
get back to competing which I know I'll just love.
Oh, and I also recently ran for a seat in the parliament as
requested by the Natural Law Party. Which was an unexpected
treat, I must admit. Consequently, I also have an active
interest in certain Eastern philosophies and practises. In
short, I'm having the time of my life.

[D] That's good. Maybe you will end up as President of Finland,
then you can make the scene a better place by making phone-
calls and stamps free (vote for him guys!!). Your career is
long and exciting, and you've been a member of top cracking
groups like TALENT, as well as top demo groups like CONTEX.
Please give us a resume of your career in the scene.

[R] I was hoping you wouldn't ask me that, haha! Ok let's see.
First, there was the uncanny BYTERAPERS INC., a Finnish
legend of the mid-eighties with the most dedicated leader ever
to grace a C64 group (Hi GRENDEL!). Then the group I had the
best time with, another Finnish legend with ex-BYTERAPERS
members, CONTEX. Now this was a group that really should
have lasted, but looking back now it's probably better it
didn't. After CTX split, the crazy times started for me as far
as groups are concerned. I joined FAIRLIGHT for 2 weeks,
then formed a group of my own, EXTASY, with my trusty
original-supplier and mailtrader (SERVANT and TMB) and my
old Danish CONTEX friends, DRAKE and NAM. That was great
each time SERVANT decided I'm worth his games and things
worked out with the Americans. I don't even remember how
things fell apart this time, but after that (no definite order)
VICTIMS, DOMINATORS, GENESIS*PROJECT, TALENT. The
last time I talked to BOD, we were the last two remaining
members of TALENT, heheh! A few stories to tell, for sure.
But working for the groups was not all I did, mind you. There
were a number of releases that I helped crack and fix for
friends in other groups as well, usually uncredited of course.
Coding demos and such was never really my thing although I
did make a few intros and the odd demopart, but coding
packers, disk routines and all kinds of tools, was what made
my grey matter go schwing. But the group madness was not all
bad, I did make a few true friends for life.

[D] As you said you have mainly made a name of yourself as a
prominent cracker. What does cracking mean to you, and is
there a difference in crackers as they are today, opposed to
when you started out in the 80's?

[R] I'm not exactly aware of what's going on today, but if it
is anything like it was when I started distancing myself from
the scene a couple of years ago, too many people call them-
selves crackers. I have nothing against getting games out
fast, it can be a definite rush, but putting out a game does
not equal cracking it. Hell, most games don't even have
protections anymore. The thing that is most different from
the early days, is that the crackers who cherish challenges
and working them out in a legitimate way are few and far
between. Most prefer to take the easy way, the fast way even
if there's no need for speed. Fact is, the legitimate way is
just as fast in the end, not to mention more reliable. Where
have the crackers gone who prided in choosing the hardest of
the versions available to crack? Think about that. What
cracking used to mean to me was learning all about the process
and then perfecting it and making innovations based on what I
found out. The tape/disk/cartridge programming, the crunch-
ers, the lot. The first releases were fun too, but that race
can get grating with so many factors beyond your control.

[D] Apart from doing a whole lot of cracking, you've also had
an active finger on the NTSC computer, fixing games to work
in the U.S. How did you experience working as a fixer?

[R] Just like cracking, it was about learning the process. I'd
like to think that I ended up with a considerable amount of
knowledge and skill, but the fact remains most of the time I
absolutely hated it. I LOATHED IT. I have the utmost respect
for the Americans who used to churn out fix after fix for
years on end. I just did not find it a very enjoyable process,
even when it worked out gloriously. The main reason I ever got
into it, was the incompetence and unreliability of too many
Americans who called themselves fixers.

[D] They sure changed to the worse through time. Being a
European fixer, and one of the best in the business, is really
kind of ironic. What do you prefer, fixing or cracking + why?

[R] As you might figure out from the previous answer, I value
cracking more. Why? The way I see it, to crack a game is to
put it in its purest, most enjoyable form possible. To NTSC-
fix a game is to screw with it as long as it looks like it was
made for NTSC, while it never will be a pure representation of
what the game is supposed to be. A fixer can never be
absolutely sure everything is 100% unless he coded the game
himself. A cracker can.

[D] Having made a huge name of yourself in the scene, you've
taken it a bit easier in the last couple of years. Was cracking
beginning to tire you, or was it the lack of games and active
American groups that caused your lack of interest in the C64?

[R] All of the above. I got to the point where I had done it
all, and didn't want to keep doing more of the same. Plus with
everything else going on in my life, it started to feel
cramping to my development as a person. It was pretty much
your average case of moving on.

[D] You've called the American boards through many years.
How would you describe the importance of calling out to the
future existance of the European and American scene?

[R] To the American scene, it's an issue of life and death.
No Europeans calling pretty much means the end of it. As for
us Europeans, I'm sure there will be people who keep on coding
demos and mailing them across the continent in the next
millenium, hahah! But the international cracking scene is
obviously pretty much dependent on the American BBS-scene,
partly due to tradition and partly due to holding up a
community. As long as there are people who enable their
groups to call out, things will go as before. But amazingly
enough, even over here in Finland times have changed, the
hackers are being tracked down and harrassed by you know
who. Some of my best friends from the scene have gotten into
deep trouble and it very nearly happened to me as well.
Another good reason for me to call it quits.

[D] I guess sooner or later they will get control over the
hackers, let's hope not though. The C64 will obviously not live
forever, one day we'll all eventually engage upon new
computers. Have you taken an active interest in other
computers, and if so, what are your future plans as far as
working with computers go?

[R] No, I haven't really taken an active interest in other
computes, although I do have a PC like the rest of the civi-
lized world. When I finally graduate, I may consider pursuing
that. But then, with the current speed of change, who knows
what will be the exciting thing by then. Until then, I have
enough contact to that world through my friends who are more
involved in it.

[D] You've always been a part of the media hype, ever since
you probably made your very first 1st-release. How has the
media worked for you through the many years?
[R] I'd be the last one to know that, don't you think? I view
my work a certain way and the public views it according to
their understanding. But sure, the magazines and the BBS-
gossip has a habbit of blowing things out of proportion
sometimes and ending up as hype. But as far as I'm concerned,
it's all true! Hahahaha!

[D] Aaaaargh.. That means the article I read about you -
"Naked ROCKSTAR seen skydiving" was all true. Geez.. :)
The charts have always been kind to you, figuring you as one
of the crackers who has been voted most upon in the history
of magazine charts. What is your opinion about being judged
through the charts, how serious did you look upon the charts
before?
[R] Oh, it comes with the territory. Honestly? The first time
I saw my handle at the top it was a bit of thrill. Especially
since I knew it was not because of putting out a game a
day, but because of doing a good job repeatedly. But mostly
it was more exciting to my group-mates. I do think it is true
that once a cracker becomes a household name, the voting
public thinks he belongs up there no matter what he does or
does not do. I guess the problem is just the general public's
lack of criteria for good cracking, and the difficulty of
spotting talent (fun intended). Fun for the masses, that's all.
Cracking is such an ongoing job the charts don't really keep
up. With the demoscene it's different, and understandable to
root for a high placement in the charts after the release of
a big demo.
[D] The scene is still there waiting for people to return and
embrace it. Have you thought about a comeback in the future
perhaps?

[R] At the moment I cannot think of anything that the C64
scene or any other computer "scene" would provide me that
lacks in my life. Not that I still don't get offers at times.
And requests for favours.. But I don't think so.

[D] I am glad you decided to award us this interview though.
That should about do it. Would you like to greet some people
in the scene before we wrap this one up?

[R] Oh yes. Everyone who has sent me postcards and
everyhing during my absence, I will try and take time to write
you back or call. I really appreciate you staying in contact.
Special HIYA!'s to: DRAKE, DEBBIE and OLIVER, BOD, RADAR,
MK, ANTITRACK, ah, many more, you know who you are. I know
my whereabouts change rapidly, please contact the PULSE
staff for my address, phone number and Internet address.

[D] Thank you for the interview, much luck in the future with
whatever you are doing - even if you're engaged with other
systems! :)

[R] Thank you! It was a pleasure. Best of luck to your mag!

- OPINION POLL NUMBER 1 -
-----------------------
When would you prefer to see magazines released?

1. I would like for them to be released on a monthly basis.

2. They can release whenever they want, I do not care.

3. I would like to see them released faster than a month.

4. Two months in between every edition is the best.

5. It depends on the magazine, therefore I do not care.

- OPINION POLL NUMBER 2 -
-----------------------
What is your opinion of the demo-scene's interaction with the
magazines, in terms of making them aware of the happenings
within?

1. The demo-scene has always been good at letting the mags
  know what is going on.

2. The demo-scene is terrible at working with the media.

3. The mags are to blame for not printing demo-scene news.

4. This is a tricky question. I do not know.
- OPINION POLL NUMBER 3 -
-----------------------
What is your opinion of the competition that goes on between
the available magazines in the scene today?

1. I think it can get pretty tough.

2. What competition?

3. The mags are good at coming up with new things constantly.

4. They should not compete this much, it does help anyone.

5. I do not know, and do not care.
+ SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT - THE SCENE MENTALITY +
   -------------------------------------------
As you may have noticed, SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT does not
figure in our program as a seperate chapter. We decided to
include this debate section into our new scene information
and debate chapter, SCENE ILLUSTRATED.

Not having robbed you of good arguements and debates, we will
offer you the best of topics relevant to the scene. This month
SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT takes on today's scene mentality.

Reading the latest edition of PROPAGANDA, General Editor
NEWSCOPY was debating the scene situation - the lack of
current profiles, and the desire to make a difference.
I agree with this problem, and definately see it as a problem.
But the way I see it, it is a problem that is quite simple to
solve. In the old days the scene mentality was very different
from what it is today. The newcommers had respect for the
settlers, the settlers had respect for the elite - and the
elite had respect for the scene as a whole, providing it with
goods that was part of making the C64 famous throughout
the world.

This ancient "Dog eat dog" mentality which was practised and
valued in the old days has been disgraced in today's scene.
We have become a "Friendly Society", in which everyone has
to be friends and allies. Being competetive and aggressive
is considered arrogant - "don't think your special".
If you do not fill your products with anti-nazism and anti-
racism signs, you're not part of the big picture - and maybe
even considered "one of them". Please, do not get me wrong,
I personally hate everything Nazism stands for, and I believe
every person, race or shape, should have the same rights as
the next man. But I really do not see how all of this has any
relevance to the scene. It is alright to mention it once in a
while, but using the symbols to be more liked - and ultimately
score votes on these signs is completely tasteless. If you
keep flashing a sign around, it will loose its value. But hey,
I have no doubt in my mind, that 100% of today's sceners are
against Nazism as well as Racism. This scene does not need
to be influenced by anti-signs, take them out in the streets
where they are needed.
The qualities of the old scene mentality was its productivity,
and the huge desire for the sceners to make a difference -
become famous and get tons of respect. That was what started
the underground computer world - what seperated us from the
so-called amatour computer clubs, that sat around club-
houses and coded basic programs and played games. We are of
a different breed, even a more arrogant breed. The classic
Cyberpunk is aggressive, competetive and demanding - the
total opposite of the overall person in the 64 scene of today.
Why you ask? Because most of the people from the old scene
has left, and the newcommers has taken over and built a new
law - the law of make love and not war.

"SLAVE KONSTRUXION FUCK" coming up later
HEY, LISTEN UP. I am not telling you to start acting arrogant,
making wars, etc. to satisfy the old scene mentality. No, I am
just asking today's sceners to become a little more aggressive
and competetive. It should matter more getting into first place
in the charts, making better products, beating your rivals -
and getting respect and fame. Why else would you work harder
if not to get something in return? The result is obvious, a
better scene with better products. Just like the good old
days. Let the products speak for themselves, nobody likes a
big-mouth - unless you have something to say. A good magazine
should always have something to say - it's their job, it's thei
duty. Not to the sceners, but to the mentality, to the scene
of which it stands - and to the protection of it!

+ THE MONTHLY TIMELINE - TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE +
---------------------------------------------
What year and month did the following events occour?

- CONAN returns to the scene to bring back the legendary
   cracking group ELITE.
- TALENT is the # 1 cracking group, while BONZAI the # 1
   demo-group in the charts.
- The American fixing-group GLORY was built.
- DEADLINE was formed, consisting of the kicked English
   section of the DOMINATORS.

The answer to this months TIMELINE events can be found
later in SCENE ILLUSTRATED.

Written by KRING/International Manuphakture of Nothing
       (EXCLUSIVE FOR THE PULSE MAGAZINE)

As the light from the cracks among the buildings scraping
against the sky broke through to the submitted on the street,
they realized, that we all moved in circular patterns. Pent-up
gas leaks always in motion.

Mechanical circuits of wires in organic decay. It was obvious,
that they were the flesh of the masses that animated the
rotation of the infection in unhealed sores, like the micro-
chips that handled the existance of the machine and its
mechanical function. Worn out with invisible teardrops (that
even with the covering of cosmethic colour stains cannot hide
the violation through the scratches of skin), the products
fall apart in heaps of fossilized concrete in front of the
crushing fist kiss of the TV-screen after yet another
humiliating day in dirty, chemical factory buildings. Blinded
and shrivelled into the present by electric flashlights, their
bodies reconstruct... Built by stones and wires. Fat flesh-
statues rise. Dazzled by the short-circuits of invisible chain
reactions, the current of spirally growing absurdity explodes
itself into the perforated cranium fractures. Unaffected by
the violation, the products lead this seed from the photogenic
noise of the TV-screen into their colourless circulation of a
media-influenced distortion of identity. Fragment of noise
from a flickering reality bite, fill up, explode and erase what
is left of organic remains. The heart is thinned with CFC.

As if that wasn't enough... A mechanical rusteraser repairs
the destructed, decomposed or decayed parts of wires, stone,
flesh and bones. The uninfected devices are cleaned or
replaced with new circuits that in their routine torment and
destruct the organic parts. The garbage is crushed. The ash
from past impressions and experiences are pushed out. Maybe
it tries to reproduce itself as dying screams in the system
of the body. The in-efficent material (normally organic) is
flushed out through the sewer pipes in the cellar of the body,
splintered or scraped into other rooms of their system.

2) Repeat (1) as much as you mean you have experienced this.
(You rewind your conciousness to find nothing). As that has
no effect, I have to ask you to repeat (1) as many times you
have felt like being raped. (Which actually means how many
times you have turned on your TV).

3) Phuck designer drugs! Get high with the IMN-method:

You simply slice off, cut whatever small parallel lines in your
head with a sharp instrument (a knife is ok!), put your bloody
into your TV-screen and sit back 5 minutes or so to feel the
radiation spread into your mind. Other radio-active systems
like machines in industrial factories are of course more
useful.. But, try the simple stuff first...
THE PULSE Commentary by DUKE;

Having read the impressive piece SLAVE KONSTRUXION FUCK
written by KRING, better known as the editor of REVEALED,
I feel the need - as well as desire, to express a few of my
political views.

KRING is, as most of you probably already know, a Socialist,
if not a Communist. He has started using REVEALED to air
his views on the world situation of today. He speaks against
the media, right-winged politicians, economical freedom, etc.
It appears odd to me, if not funny, how a person, who claims to
be against all forms of media's, can have one of his own.

Furthermore, it bothers me a lot to see KRING continue to
contradict himself by fingering the commercial system of the
free world. If I remember correctly, KRING was desperately
trying to put REVEALED on the shelves, selling it to C64
interested all over the world - by money order. How commercial
do you allow things to get KRING? You even sold one of your
interviews to an English Magazine, atleast so I have been told.
It would appear greatly to me, that you are nothing but a very
confused Socialist, with the desire to be different in these
frustrating times. But you have chosen the wrong side my
friend. You speak of freedom, but Socialism doesn't provide
you freedom, it provides you chains and a plan for how you
are allowed to live your life. No barriers must be broken,
your future has been decided upon. And not by you!
I am a Liberal, meaning I take great pride in having an open
mind towards everything. I do not believe in a government,
I believe in the people. I believe in freedom of the press,
freedom for the companies to sell across borders and achieve
growth to secure our future, freedom of speech, the right to
vote, the right to buy and sell at any given time of day, the
right to choose, the right to say no..

The right, to be an individual..

I am tired of Socialists trying to dictate how the people
should act and live their lives. Stop telling us what is
morally decent, stop telling us what our values in life should
be, stop taking our information sources away, stop forcing
state channels down our throaths, stop forcing us to pay for
your overpriced wellfare state, stop spending our money,
stop fighting us for being economical, stop putting us in
groups, stop labeling us, stop signing us in registers, stop
adding extra taxes on the things we buy the most, stop your
sick desire to rule the wellfare sector, stop fighting the
free enterprises, stop your monopoly rules, stop shutting
down the media's that dare take on your government, stop
designing our educations, stop singing Socialism songs at
meetings instead of addressing real issues, stop personally
offending your opponents, stop ruining our future, stop your
sick system, stop your rules, stop your power-trip...

STOP, STOP, STOP.. HEY TEACHER, leave those kids alone!

Board Report

+ THE BOARD REPORT - THE CYBER SECTION +
   ---------------------------------------
Oh yes, as the infamous PULSE MAGAZINE proceeds its mass-
ive publishing, ofcourse the board report is back as well.

To get in touch with me, regarding...oh...anything..about this
chapter, either leave me e-mail at MOUNT OLYMPUS (User # 2),
reach me on IRC...OR leave me Internet E-mail at the following
adress:
              c01-dec5102.aarhues.dk
              ------------------
Very urgent mail SHOULD be send via the Internet, though!!!

What to do, what to do?.. I know.. Change page!!!
Alright.. This time we decided to set the spotlight on a board
located in little Denmark, called by the name of:

                + Mount Olympus +
                --------------
European headquaters of MOTIV 8 and DOMINATION magazine.
- -- --- ---- ----- ----------- ----- ---- --- -- -
The board is the official EHQ for DOMINATION magazine, but
sideways it also offers a massive support of THE PULSE, and
reactions and whatever else may be actual can also be delive-
red here for publishment in further issue's of THE PULSE.

Sysop is Bird/MOTIV 8, while starring as his co-sysop's is
Crossfire/MOTIV 8 and Jazzcat/ONSLAUGHT..
The board has been online for well over 7 months now, and is
quite popular with the people calling there. More specific data
would look like:

Running 300/1200/2400 baud, online 24 hours. Running on one
C64, with another C64 as backup. Two 1581-drives for wares -
one holding zipped files and one holding single files, plus an
extra 1581 for holding posts and e-mail (possibility of about
750 online-posts when filled to the maximum!!!).

Two 1581's may not seen like much, compared to certain other
boards' 250 meg-harddisk, but think about it - Two 1581 is more
than enough to hold the very latest. 250 megs would hold wares
for years and who would be interested in ancient stuff? :)
Whatever.. This wasn't meant to be topic for a discussion..

The board contains four public sub-boards, with each about
100 online-posts...the list looking like the following:

          1. Still Stompin'
          2. Wares Galore
          3. Domination News
          4. Field Of Wickedness

The sub-names pretty much speaks for themselves, so an ex-
planation should be rather useless!..
Furthermore is there a special friends-sub, but enough about
that since not everybody will gain access there anyway! ;)
Drives-wise, the following is present:

          1. Latest Warez - Zipped
          2. Latest Warez - Single
          3. Motiv 8 mail/quality releases

Not much trick here, the names speaks fully for themselves...
Like with the subs, there is also something special for certain
users here, namely an originals-drive, where the latest origi-
nals can be up- or downloaded by the users - Swell idea given
by Vengeance/ONSLAUGHT, and it turn d out to be quite a
popular one aswell..

                                   - Next page! -
Not much can be said, except that this board is definately
worth a call - you will like it and will return..

Tales from TDJ

+ TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE - DEMO DEBATE +
     ----------------------------------------
The golden days of the c64 demo scene are far behind us. It is
unthinkable that there ever will be such a high quantity and
quality of demo's released like in 1988, 1989 and 1990, on any
computer. But as with all which is good, this also ended, and
in the years after that things went downhill, faster and faster
heading towards the long expected end. Still, a lot of people
refused to give up and quite a number of fantastic demo's did
see the light, but the true feeling was and is forever gone.

But now, in the year 1995, things seem to improve in ways I for
one had never hold possible. Ofcourse, it will never be as it
was, but the situation has clearly changed for the better.
What makes me feel this way, one might wonder? Well, several
things actually. First of all the continued flow of high-qualit
demo's, featuring effects even demo-gods such as KJER and
SOLOMON never dreamed of. Just as important is the return
of several old legends, who did not find the joy they knew on
other, so called 'better', machines such as the PC and Amiga.

These two things are responsible for the fact that 1995 seems
to become the best demo year since 1991. A quick retrospect at
what it has been bringing us so far will hopefully prove you my
point. For those who had missed the Party 4 in Denmark, 1995
started with the demo's released there. Although the overall
quality of the products might not have been as high as the
previous year, several positive things spring to mind.
First of all ofcourse the amazing ACCESS DENIED, with which
REFLEX stunned everybody and won the 1st prize, thus taking
revenge for their early disqualification the year before. But
what shocked me personally even more was the much-welcomed
comeback of veterans LIGHT, who showed to be as arrogant as
in 'the good old days', for not being content with their second
place. This arrogance is not a bad thing though, hopefully it
will give them enough fuel to strike twice as hard next time.

There was more: ANTIC released a good, somewhat small demo,
CENSOR gave a sign o' life with a one-parted product, PADUA
ended their terrific TORTURE series with a bang, and WRATH
DESIGNS gave us some of the best graphics ever seen on this
computer, too bad that JOE's scan-rep ruined things a bit.
The dutch made a complete fool out of themselves once more,
with the ill-inspired HOUSE DESIGNS demo and the disk-space
wasting SILICON LTD. monster (sorry Dennis). The fake demo's
were funny, if a bit tiresome. SIESTA and OXYRON also had
some strong stuff, unfortunately neither one managed to be in
the final competition.

In the week after the party 2 other demo's were released, at
least as far as I know of. CHORUS showed us that hungarians
should never be forgotten when it comes to code. REVOLUTION
might not have been just that, but is a real pleasure to watch,
and shows us that their main coder CLARENCE is a force to be
reckoned with. Finally, FOCUS managed to release the delayed
VISUAL DELIGHT 2, a year after it won 3rd prize on TP3.
After that good start, things became very silent, at least for
me. I only saw a few products now and then, from which I can
only remember FROM BEYOND by ASPHYXIA as a bit impressive.
However, like the TP4 stuff, this was technically a 1994 demo.
Also, some more products from TP4 which I had missed the first
time found their way to me, but demo's like TRASH END/G*P,
COMIC MEDIA/CP and CRAZY WORLD 3/NO NAME just didn't
cut it. After that, nothing.

It wasn't until a few months later that I heard about Megastyle
having released yet another demo. Bearing in mind their superb
1993 production SEAL OF FOCALOR, I had very high hopes for
this one. Well, I did get a bit dissapointed, but the joy of
yet another legendary coder making its return, made things up.
Soon after that, another copy-party took place, this time in
Utrecht, Holland. Hosted by SCS+TRC and FOCUS, X95 may
not have been as huge as most scandivian parties, but the fun
which the c64ers seemed to have, especially when compared to
the mod-playing, mega-boring PC freaks, showed once and for
all that the true scene is the c64 scene. And that comes from
somebody who is in both, as well as the Amiga-scene!

Only 5 demo's competed here, and immediately after its showing
it became crystal clear that REFLEX once again had a winner.
Their RADIO NAPALM left most PC-sceners gasping for breath
and then looking at their powerful 66mhz 486, wondering what
went wrong. F4CG reached the second place, with a demo by the
ex.NOICE members, which wasn't really special but still nice.
The other 3 demo's were not, point blank. COSINE's effort was
easily forgotten, but can at least be called a brave try. On
the other hand, WORLD DEMISE by SLASH DESIGN proves to
me that the dutch c64 demo future looks very black. Too bad
that AMNESIA didn't finish their demo, they may at least give
some competition to FOCUS. Finally, BLACK CODE DESIGN was
a very lame attempt to score with effects developed by the
heroes in BYTERAPERS and OXYRON, but failed miserabely.

Speaking about OXYRON, due to unfortunate circumstances
they didn't visit X95. Their demo however, simply called PARTS,
was finished. And it was, once again, fantastic. In my opinion
they might even have beaten REFLEX with it, but we will never
know that for sure ofcourse.
NowX one could argue that, even if there were a few stunning
products released so far, the average quality is not too high.
But thanks to the wonderful world of internet, which allows me
to keep in touch with members of many good demo groups, I just
know the future is so bright, we all will have to start wearing
ray-bans!

The keyword here is ASSEMBLY '95. This finnish party, which
has delivered us the last 2 BEYOND FORCE demo's as well as
the last ORIGO demo, seems to become a star-studded event.
Ofcourse nothing is sure but as it looks now there will be
about 5 or 6 demo's from absolute world class groups. And I'm
talking about legendary groups, so I'm not counting REFLEX,
who seem to think they already won the competition.
Now, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Reflex, I think
they did two fantastic demo's (although they both looked much
better on the big screens at the parties then on my monitor,
but that goes for all c64 stuff I guess) but they have a long
way to go before reaching the status groups like Oxyron and
Byterapers have.

Furthermore there are rumours about a few more legends who
will return to the wonderful world of sid & vic. It is rumoured
MASTERMIND will release a HORIZON demo, while I also heard
from BAGDER/HORIZON that some more of their members are
still working on a c64 product. Another ex. number one group,
CREST, is also planning to hit the scene soon. Ofcourse, we've
heard that before, but there could be something to it now.
You want more names? I've got them! What about TOPAZ, as
D'ARC finally left the army and is hungry for bytes! And would
you be stunned if I told you that none other than JEROEN TEL
is almost finished with a demo called NOISE OF MANIACS, to be
released under the M.O.N. label ofcourse. Still, he's very
busy, so don't look too surprised when it won't appear soon.

What else? Returning to the ASM party, it seems safe to think
that BYTERAPERS INC. will release something as well. Now, I
have known a LOT of superb coders in my 8+ years on the demo
scene, but MR.SEX keeps amazing me! Other groups that are
mentioned concerning ASSEMBLY are BEYOND FORCE, as they
released something there the last 2 times, and it seems ORIGO
might be competing as well.
So, putting everything together we might see releases in the
next 3 or 4 months by Byterapers Inc, Beyond Force, Horizon,
Topaz, Origo, Crest, Maniacs Of Noise and Reflex, while it is
almost safe to presume there are even more groups who will do
a good demo.

Now please remember, as always, nothing is certain. But if only
half of these groups would actually manage to finish their job,
and some other groups not mentioned above would also become
active, what a great time we have to look forward to!

And I'm not even talking about the eastern european scene. I
don't see too much from those groups, unfortunately, but I'm
desperately awaiting for a few of those demo's as well.
For the next time I'd like to include an 'update' segment, abou
the current situation in various demo groups. If you think your
group should be in here as well (please be honest, not every
group is worth knowing about!), send me some snail- or e-mail,
including a short history of the group, active (!) memberlist,
the last demo/product you released and future plans. You do
not have to bee *too* specific but I don't need anything like
'maybe a demo' either ofcourse.

That's it for this time. Next month more personal views on the
scene as it is today from me in 'Tales from the darkside!'.

Meet the press

+ MEET THE PRESS - WORLD OF MAGAZINES +
      --------------------------------------
Welcome to the official reaction chapter of THE PULSE. This
chapter used to be regular with THE PULSE when it was last
released, but for those with slight memory-loss, I will explain
the contents of this chapter.

MEET THE PRESS is as said above our reaction chapter. We
accept serious reactions of any form, where we will answer
your questions and take advices into consideration. But we
offer much more than that. Look out for our detailed and
informative magazine-reviews, interviews with known editors,
magazine-news and just about anything that has to do with
analysing today's media in the scene - a World of Magazines!
Comments from the editor,

Due to the known fact, that this is the comeback edition, we
have not got a bundle of letters to respond to. We hope you
will all write to us, letting us know what you think about
THE PULSE and the things we report about. It is up to you to
keep THE PULSE as updated and interesting as possible.

In the past editions, we have had reviews of magazines
included in this Meet The Press. We will continue to do this
in the future, but we would like for you to send us your latest
edition if you want it to be reviewed by us. This edition we
have looked at VANDALISM NEWS, but in the coming edition
there will be more for you to read.
RAGGER'S PARADIZE
----------------
Shortly after leaving the scene in September 1994, I got a
disk in the post from an unknown source, with a magazine
called RAGGER'S PARADIZE. At first hand I thought this
might be a fake magazine, it looked pretty suspicious to me.
The editor, JESSE, used this "magazine" to badmouth me and
THE PULSE, in a manor I do not find suitable for a critic.
He concluded by stating, that unless I reacted upon all his
criticism in the next edition of THE PULSE - I would be a
coward. First of all JESSE (if that's your real name), I do not
plan on using a chapter in THE PULSE to respond to you -
or anyone for that matter. If you want me to respond to you,
leave your address and real handle - this way I know if your
reaction is solid, and comes from a true source. It seems to me
the only coward around here is you, but I will give you the
benefit of the doubt. Write to me again, including your address
and I will consider your reaction. This goes for anyone else
who has serious questions or criticism. But please, if you are
looking to score fame by provokating a war with THE PULSE
(like NASTINESS, INC. of THE TRIBUNE) - don't bother. We
have decided not to respond to hostile critics, they are best
left alone in their bitter moods. That's not to say we refuse
negative criticism, but there's a difference between hostile
and negative. When I get a letter from someone, who does not
leave me any clue of who he is, and he calls me names and
"yells" at me, I choose to ignore him.
                              Tsk, Tsk!
NOT SO INGENIOUS BRAIN
--------------------
During my absence from the scene, the editor of the magazine
INGENIOUS BRAIN was commenting on THE PULSE - and my
person, comments I think deserve a reply. Apparently,
INGENIOUS BRAIN has spoken against THE PULSE previously,
not that I knew, because I never got the mag (blame my former
contacts). The editor of IB, MR.WARP, claimed I was of an
unfortunate arrogant nature, caused by a "Superiority
Complex" - a serious illness which psychiatrists could cure
me from. Well, MR.WARP, I would prefer if you addressed me
personally when accusing me of being subjective - I for one
would like to know what you are refering to. How dare you
claim, that I am a person without any confidence in myself -
and without any friends. How would you know? You do not know
the slightest thing about me or what I do in my real life. Just
because I prefer to keep my private life seperate from the
scene, and from THE PULSE, it doesn't mean I am anti-social,
depressed and without anything to do but computing. It just
so happens computing is the least interesting hobby I have,
I only touch my C64 when it is to write THE PULSE in the end
of each month - nothing else. I prefer to keep my personal
life to myself, and as a scener I would expect you to respect
this, without making stupid accusations against my person.
I really wonder how you can claim to be such a friendly and
anti-conflict person, when you start making lies, rags
and backstabbing accusations about someone that has never
done anything to you - someone you don't even know.
If anyone, you are the person with the need to see a doctor -
you are obviously suffering from being two-faced (this is a
remark atleast based on something).

I do not hesitate to state my opinion on issues I feel strongly
about. It is very important to me that our readers gets
straight answers - and preferably as entertaining and
correct as possible. If that seems arrogant to you, then so
be it - I don't care. I am not going to tone down my editing,
because some old lady like censor person like yourself can't
deal with it. There is more to life than bingo, and walks in
the park my "pacifist" friend. You are free to ignore my
comments, this is your choice. I am just glad that I was able
to read in IB that a lot of people stood up for me when they
saw your desperate attempt to make me look bad - trying to
make IB rise above THE PULSE. There are better ways of
doing that my friend, stop putting your competition down
without reason.

I am very disappointed in having to deal with you this way. I
have a very good relationship, and share a mutual respect
with the majority of the major magazine editors in the scene,
but you appear to be different from all of them together. It
is therefore with regret I noticed you are co-editing the new
co-operation mag between IB and REFORMATION called
SHOUT. I hope you will stop wrongfully accusing, insulting
and patronising me when working for this new magazine, and
then perhaps we too can be allies instead of enemies!
THE MAGAZINE REVIEWS!
-------------------
Welcome to the popular in-depth magazine reviews, back on
demand edited by DUKE. We would like to encourage all
magazine editors to send us their latest editions, then maybe
your magazine will get an in-depth review. Here follows the
magazine review point-system explanations.

*         : AWEFUL
**        : BAD
***       : ACCEPTABLE
****      : GOOD
*****     : GREAT
******    : EXCELLENT
SUBJECT   : VANDALISM NEWS, EDITION 20.
LABEL     : ONSLAUGHT DESIGN.

Vandalism News is once again subject of our criticism, but
since it usually gets a good review, there should not be much
to be afraid of from the editors of this magazine.

This Australian based magazine, with a global audience, has
a history of groups and editors. It has gone through a lot
of major changes, but it seems as if it has finally found its
true image and standing-point. This could've been caused by
the latest group it has taken on - ONSLAUGHT, a powerful
cracking group, with respected members as well as a positive
image. VANDALISM NEWS will do ONSLAUGHT good I expect!
With the new-found image and bullet confidence, it radiates
success and power - two great qualities in a magazine. The
General Editor VENGEANCE is as always a very flexible
person, with a lot of general knowledge about the scene. He
has allied himself with a couple of modern editors in the form
of BIZARRE (former A-HEAD editor) and HOMEBOY (former
THE PULSE correspondent). Together they offer a very wide
and in-depth spectre of chapters relevant to the modern
scener, except for perhaps the demo fan, who is deprived from
the obligatory demo-section.

Labeling VANDALISM NEWS as a classic Cracking/Modem
magazine is not fair though, as it offers a lot to the general
population of the scene, the swappers. With a variety of
text that suits just about any scener, VANDALISM NEWS
makes good reading and is definately a top of the table
production of the modern scene.

It would also be appropriate to mention the brand new outfit
VANDALISM NEWS has produced. Having used proportional
chars for a while, they kept the new image. Their reading
section is well designed, with a yellow "VANDALISM" logo in
the left side boarder, and the text to the right of it. When
going for a new page, the logo clears the text-area, and
brings back a new page. Neat idea, and in general a very
readable and relaxing screen. The menu is equally friendly to
the user, with pretty graphics to make a perfect screen. To
sum it up, it has a fast IRQ-loader and is as a whole a very
user-friendly outfit.

Although I hate giving VENGEANCE compliments (nah, you know
I love you Matt, ehrm) - :) I would give my thumbs up for this
magazine as it is progressing right now. Granted, it lacks
the demo sections, but it never really covered that part of
the scene..

VANDALISM NEWS judgement : ****

That concludes this months edition of MEET THE PRESS. We
have a lot of plans for this chapter for next months issue,
so stick around - we promise you the best of news and pure
entertainment EVERY MONTH!

Overall charts

    + THE OVERALL CHARTS - A MAGAZINE SURVEY +
  -----------------------------------------
Welcome to the OVERALL CHARTS, brought to you by the new
host taking over from DUKE, KBS/ONSLAUGHT.

Well, in case you don't remember this chapter, it just happens
to be the chapter where we take a look at the charts in the
current magazines available today. As usual we award 10 points
to the group/scener/magazine who's on the top spot in the
charts. The magazines used to compile this chart were:

SHOUT # 1/EQX+FLT, VANDALISM NEWS # 20/[ONS],
THE WALL # 2/PWA, CHAOTIC COUNTRY CHOICE # 2/TRY and
last, but not least, JAMAICA # 12/JAM.

BEST DEMOGROUP - APRIL 1995 [Remarks]

* BYTERAPERS makes a remarkable entry at 3rd place which is
quite a change since our last charts. And if I'm not much
mistaken, we'll see them even higher in the future.

* By the looks of it, CREST seems to be going down. But, since
CREST is such a legendary demogroup, I think they just
need to release a new demo once in a while to maintain their
usual position. It's just a matter of time before they will
   climb again, I think.

* REFLEX seems to have some surprising stuff to offer, since
they've managed to get such a good position. (7th)

BEST CODERS - APRIL 1995 [Remarks]

* All the major demogroups seems to be represented in this
chart. So, when will we see some new faces in here? Surely,
there are other coders out there which deserves a top-10
spot also. By the way, did you notice that 3 OXYRON members
were present? Too bad that they're not as active as they
   used to be!

* CAMMER/SLAMELOT (or was it the other way around?)
jumped up to his highest position ever (I think), namely the
2nd place! Meanwhile, his groupmate GLASTNOST keeps his
9th place. I think you could expect to see RAZ taking over
this spot soon, as RAZ seems more active than GLASNOST!?!

* A remarkable chart this month with whole 6 new entries! It's
seldom that anything changes in this chart, but I assume
it's simply caused by the fact that we had a 6 months break.
A lot of talented Polish graphicians on their way up the

BEST MUSICIANS - APRIL 1995 [Remarks]

* JEFF/CAMELOT made a remarkable move from place 9 up to
lace 3! Yes, a lot of things can happen in half a year! But,
when will the other MUSIC-CAMELS in CAMELOT appear in
the charts? I'm especially thinking of the also very talente
DUCK LA ROCK and METAL. They've got what it takes, don't
   you think?

* A rumour has it that JEROEN TEL is more active than ever.
Whether this is true or not, I can't say for sure, but just
few weeks ago I saw the evidence of his still ongoing work.
Well, 'saw' is perhaps too much to say; 'heard' is probably
more appropriate word, for he is a musician - with style!

BEST CRACKING GROUPS - APRIL 1995 [Remarks]

* SUCCESS and THE RULING COMPANY as always unbeatable
on the number one spot - no news from that front. The scene
is looking for a bit more competition at the top, that must
be what we can conclude from such a popular number one.

* CHROMANCE moving up on a prestigous 3rd place, while the
strong AVANTGARDE is knocking on heavens door. There
must be a lot of frustration in AVANTGARDE over the
strenght of SCS+TRC, they are just too popular to get
beaten - perhaps over a very long period. Meanwhile, F4CG
and EXCESS move in on the charts with the speed of light.
It will be interesting to follow the these groups!

BEST CRACKERS - APRIL 1995 [Remarks]

* BREAKING NEWS ... BURGLAR has been knocked out cold by
JACK ALIEN, who enters the number one spot on a one point
difference. This could simply be a matter of the low amount
of magazines used for this months survey (the market is not
what it used to be), but the following month will show us if
this really means the end of an unbeatable BURGLAR-era!

* A lot of new entries on this months chart. MR.WAX, THORN,
CHRYSAGON and SKINHEAD enters the chart to supply new
blood and take over from some of the inactive oldies.
POWERPLANT moves down a lot of places, looking like one
to move out of the charts very soon.

BEST MAGAZINES - APRIL 1995 [Remarks]

* THE PULSE MAGAZINE is alive (SURPRISED?), but among
quite a few dead ones. The GAMERS GUIDE is one of them. It
seems as if the staff was fed up with it. Also the staff at
JAMAICA decided to make their last issue. REBELS died a
natural death taking NEWS PRESS with them in the grave.
Finally, you've also seen the last issues of REFORMATION
and INGENIOUS BRAIN, now it's time for SHOUT, which is the
co-op magazine of EQUINOXE and FAIRLIGHT and therefore
replacing both REFORMATION and INGENIOUS BRAIN. But,
here in this chart SHOUT has to earn it's own name, so no
IB- or REFORMATION-points for SHOUT! Checking out some
recent sheets, exposes it as a soon to be no.1 mag though!

BEST SWAPPERS - APRIL 1995 [Remarks]

* As you can see out of this chart, a lot of great swappers are
on their way down the chart. I'm sorry to see dudes like
CALYPSO and TABASCO falling down after having reached
the top for a while. But, I guess that's the story of any
sceners life! When they hit the top, they're gone! It's a
quest that goes on for any sceners career; the reach for
the top! And when it happens, it's seldom to see a scener
setting new goals to reach for when they've reached the top.
But, luckily, there are some exceptions and thank god for
   that! (Hi DUKE!)

OVERALL CHART - APRIL 1995 [Remarks]

* The trend in this chart could be that it's a must for a group
to have some members in GERMANY and then you'll enter
automatically, but... If this was the actual reason that thi
chart looks like this, I suppose it's caused by the fact tha
GERMANY is one of the most productive countries in Europe,
atleast when it comes to software that is.

* Did you notice the great point-distance between CAMELOT
on 1st place and AVANTGARDE on 2nd? Certainly, SKYHIGH
is the main reason for that, as you know it became a
CAMELOT magazine not long ago. And don't forget how much
their REVEALED magazine pull them up! (2 mags - one group!)
