+ THE PULSE MAGAZINE - THE FEBRUARY EDITION +
  __________________________________________
Ladies and Gentlemen, once again we introduce to you the
international distributed THE PULSE MAGAZINE - produced
by REGINA in 1994.

Now that we have all had a chance to digest Christmas and the
New Year, we are back stronger than ever, to set the sails for
another year, in the service of the 64 scene.

INSTRUCTIONS : Use JOYSTICK in PORT 2. Left and right to
change PAGES and FIRE to reach the MENU!
Dear Readers, 1st of February 1994

Welcome to the February edition, also known as the 8th issue
of THE PULSE MAGAZINE - your guide to the demo, cracking
and modem scene. We bring you all the details!

The February edition brings back WORLD OF DEMOS which has
been on a two months winther-holiday. It also presents a few
changes in the catagories. We decided to include a new news
chapter, that one being NEWS JOURNAL. GLOBAL REPORT is
now dedicated to bring you party-reports, stories and reviews
of what is on the drives these days. Last but not least, our
satiric chapter CROSSFIRE was renamed into SATIRICA for a
number of reasons, read those in SATIRICA if interested.
The March edition will bring much more text than ever before.
The reason for this, is that SUN DANCER and me (DUKE) will
begin our world-tour on modem, recording everything on our
path. Information is our goal, and we plan on making it avail-
able through this magazine.

PSYCHOBILLY left the scene and the staff. We wish him good
luck in the future. We welcome MUTANT-X of PHUN SOFT INC.
to the staff, he will operate as our U.S correspondant. We also
welcome DRAX/CREST, he will join our WORLD OF DEMOS staff
where he will give his comments to todays demo-musics.

Thanks for the attention,
DUKE

+ NEWS JOURNAL - THE MONTHLY HEADLINES +
    ______________________________________
Welcome to the NEWS JOURNAL for February month. This time
we introduce a different chapter for you. The NEWS JOURNAL
takes over the job of guiding you through the global news,
while GLOBAL REPORT will bring you the latest reports and
stories around the world. We are expanding in 1994!

THE PULSE MAGAZINE will now be presented by another two on
the American boards. On the 1st of February, DUKE and SUN
DANCER will be situated at the top boards, in order to secure
more stories. NEWS JOURNAL is presented by DUKE, CROSS-
FIRE, SPLATTERHEAD and our many sources for news and
information around the world.
* ALPHA FLIGHT started the year quite busy, recruiting and
kicking members like no other group. To begin with, ROUGH/
CHROMANCE and SECRET MAN/RSI joined up. Also RRR/OXY-
RON joined in, but only as his second group. CHR returned to
the scene, and rejoined ALPHA FLIGHT. They chose to clean
up a bit in their status, so they kicked out SNOOZE (because
he did not pay for originals), DOC STONED and SDI. Later
MAJA left to join CHROMANCE, and ANIMAL teamed up with
the rivals in TRSI. LORD CRUCIFIER and SPLATTERHEAD also
left ALPHA FLIGHT to team up with CHROMANCE, but later
they joined up with GENESIS PROJECT though. JAZZCAT
stopped his work for VANDALISM NEWS, as he plans to start a
magazine of his own, entitled DOMINATION. According to DEFF
of AVANTGARDE, STING should not even own a 64 anymore!
The official ALPHA FLIGHT 1970 memberstatus: MARC, STING,
MAX, MANIAC, SKID ROW, HONESTY, ANCIENT MARINER, RRR,
SECRET MAN, ROUGH and SUPREME. Those not mentioned is
either kicked, or have left (and by the looks of this list, it
is quite a number of people).

* RED SECTOR INC. is dead! The number one cracking group in
1993 is torn apart, leaving bits everywhere. Most of the group
built up TRSI, with TERMO, MR.PRESIDENT, PSYCHOBILLY and
POSDNUGS leaving the 64 scene. For now it remains unclear
who is in TRSI, but we should have a full memberstatus ready
for you by next month. But two new faces showed up, ANIMAL
and SECRET MAN, who left the rivals in ALPHA FLIGHT to join
up with the group.
* A new and succesful group has been introduced to the scene
in the new year. The name of this group is MOTIV 8, and by the
looks of their first month, they are getting ready for a very
promising future. MOTIV 8 is mostly consisting of former EPIC
members, but also the names of former CHROMANCE, VISION
and DOMINATORS members figures in the group. According to
CROSSFIRE, a few surprise members is to be expected in the
future. MOTIV 8 piced up PEACEMAKER, CURLIN and RACOON
from VISION. On top of that, EDDIE (former EPIC member) joined
in. His board THE GRAVEYARD is now THE PULSE MAGAZINE
Support HQ - Call it at +45-511-724-2160. Their European BBS
DOMINIC is back running. The new number is +45-5577-6523!
According to REFORMATION, all members of VISION should have
joined MOTIV 8. How this should be possible, we don't know!
The memberstatus of MOTIV 8 according to CROSSFIRE :

TRICKET     : Sysop, Leader, Modem-trader.
CROSSFIRE   : Cracker, Leader,Modem-trader.
MASON       : Cracker.
ICEBALL     : Cracker.
VORTEX      : Modem-trader.
PEACEMAKER  : Cracker, Modem-trader.
CURLIN      : Cracker, Modem-trader.
RACOON      : Modem-trader, Mail-trader.
EDDIE       : Cracker, Fixer, Modem-trader.
DOOM        : Cracker, Graphician, Modem-trader.

The memberstatus continues on the next page!
Continued..

JASON       : Original-supplier, Mail-trader.
CLIVE       : Mail-trader.
MERLIN      : Mail-trader.
IBANEZ      : Mail-trader.

* Cracking-giants THE RULING COMPANY and SUCCESS has
united into one. It has been some time since the last major co-
operation, and TRC + SCS seems very promising. However, TTS
(THE SILVER SURFER) left SUCCESS to join SILICON LTD. on
both Amiga and C64. Latest news just came in, that TRC+SCS
new WHQ will be the PHUN SOFT INC. board REBELLION- and
STONE left IMPRESSION to join up with TRC!
* FAIRLIGHT is reorganizing REFORMATION. BLACK PRIEST
was kicked out of FAIRLIGHT, because of the bad job he did
with the 6th edition of REFORMATION put out at the CAMELOT
party. ENDURO and LEXI took over the magazine, and they
already released the 7th edition in the end of January. Also
AARON and AYATOLLAH were kicked out of FAIRLIGHT. The
current status : BACCHUS, AVALON, BAPPALANDER, LEXI,
DINO, ENDURO, GERWIN, GRAYHAWK, HARLEKIN, RED DEVIL,
OGAMI, OXIDY, ROWDY, SLEDGE, SPIROU, TRON, WATCHMAN
and VDK.

* PALACE recruited KREATOR/ex.LASER, PAGE/ex.SIDE B
and DELTA/ex.LEGEND. PALACE now holds 15 members, and it
looks like a solid and interesting group!
* TALENT signed on THE IGNORANCE (ex.X-RAY, ENIGMA) and
HAIN/CHROMANCE in the new year. The current memberstatus
looks like this : BOD, MAJESTY, CHRYSAGON, MORRISEY,
ROCKSTAR, THE IGNORANCE and HAIN.

* L.A.STYLE/GENESIS PROJECT has opened HACK CHECK on
the Amiga. It runs on a program called AmiExpress, and has a
capacity of 450 megabyte hard-disk. In the C64 division, they
added a couple of members. To begin with, LORD CRUCIFIER and
SPLATTERHEAD left ALPHA FLIGHT, joined CHROMANCE, and
then ended up in GENESIS PROJECT. TWIST/TRANCE may join
in aswell, but right now he is only on trial though before he
gets admitted.

* AVANTGARDE started their new year by recruiting a couple
of members aswell (must be the season). DAVE/ex.LEGEND
joined in, while ASLIVE returned to his swapping again, and
teamed up aswell. THORN and NEVIS (known from CRYPT in the
past) joined up to make the group complete. ICARUS was kicked
out because of laziness, and ODYSSEUS (sysop of CHAOTIC
FACTOR) was booted aswell. SUB-ZERO and ONYX left, they
are still in CODERZ though. Rumours saying DARKLORD left
AVANTGARDE to join LEGEND are not true. According to
FREESTYLE, DARKLORD is still in AVANTGARDE.

* DR.DISK/ATLANTIS left the scene, while LYNX/CROSSFIRE
and SCULL/PROXYON (musician) joined up with ATLANTIS to
keep the balance..
* LEGEND announced their memberstatus on THE SHAOLIN
TEMPLE as follows : POWERPLANT, WESTBAM, XXX, REBEL,
REBEL, SKATER, FLETCH, DOC, ATMOS and TYREE. This means
that SKATER, FLETCH and DOC should be back and active (?).
According to PIRATES, SKATER should have stated that he
wants to do SHOCK for the C64 again!

* The American scene introduced a new group in January. The
group PHUN-SOFT INC. is supposed to be a new fixing group.
The current memberstatus should go like this : MUTANT-X,
STYX and WHITE LIGHTNING. Their board REBELLION is shared
with TRC+SUCCESS. Latest news reveals that PSI kicked out
VOLCAN, while they should have recruited a new fixer. More
of this group next month for sure!
* TOXYC/IMPRESSION got a 600$ large phone-bill, and there-
fore his parents closed the line. Other happenings inside of
IMPRESSION, would be D-SIGMA/ex.MIRACLE joining in!

* OXYRON plans to release a new demo at the Easter party,
despide talks about leaving the 64-scene due to their bad
result, at the CAMELOT party. OXYRON remains unchanged,
only RRR joined up with ALPHA FLIGHT as his second group.

* The members of the old group A.C.E (Actual Cracking Enter-
tainment) are back, and formed a H/P group called END SIEG.

* The U.S-hacker THE WARLORD/RMJCC got busted for
hacking into the GENERAL MOTORS main terminal.
* VISION recruited ACE, FREDDIE, HERCULES and SPIDERMAN
of X-FACTOR. According to SPIDERMAN, X-FACTOR is not
officially dead, they plan to release a farewell demo from the
old members in the near future. Next month SPIDERMAN will do
an exclusive portrait of X-FACTOR and the 5 years they were
active in both the demo, cracking and the modem-scene.
PEACEMAKER left CHROMANCE to join up with VISION for a
short visit, later he left with RACOON and CURLIN to join up
with MOTIV 8. X-RADICAL blew up his NTSC-chip, and should
therefore be considered as a former fixer (atleast right now!).
The current VISION memberstatus goes like this : ACE, DECO-
RIAN, DISHY, DISK BANDIT, DR.JONES, FREDDIE, HEAVY
HEAD, HERCULES, HOUBBA, ICON, MALCOM, MR.SMART,
PUSSYFOOTER, RAD, RAY, SATAN, SPIDERMAN, WOLF, -
Uontinued.. - XOSS, X-RADICAL, ZAGON and ZORE.

* TERMINATOR left UNITED ARTISTS after moving to the
states with his wife and child. Therefore UNITED ARTISTS lost
the boards GENESTEALER and ETERNAL DISASTER. BILLY
THE KID (sysop of ETERNAL DISASTER) left the scene.
According to a reliable source, he should have been busted
for child-abuse. This should have been going on over the
course of 9 years, where the FBI found tapes from his nasty
games with young boys. This comes as a major shock to every-
one that knew him, especially since he is a priest and all! To
leave this ugly topic, METALLICA (sysop of GENESTEALER)
left the scene! Phew....

* SUBZERO an ONYX left AVANTGARDE and are now only in
CODERZ. The official memberstatus of CODERZ sounds like
this : LUCIFER, ONYX, SUBZERO, X-RADICAL and RAIDER!

* CHROMANCE lost a couple of members. ROUGH joined up with
ALPHA FLIGHT with HAIN joining TALENT. MAJA left ALPHA
FLIGHT to join CHROMANCE though.

* Another new group was built in the states (news that just
came in on the last minute - 1st of February). The group is
called GODFATHER, and according to our source, this group
represents off-springs from TSM (which should be dead now!).
The members are : ASTERIX, DEAD RED INDIAN, STORMRIDER,
YANKEE, KICK-BACK (who should've left DEMONIX)..
* CHARLES DEENEN/ex.MANIACS OF NOICE are working for
INTERPLAY in the states. He is the chief for the Audio group,
STAR TREK is the latest work he has finished, this is on the
PC though. Read the new PC-FORMAT magazine for an inter-
view with him!

            ---- THE QUICK ONES ----

* JCH is calling 64 boards again, but is currently active on
the PC.

* PERNET/ex.SACRET quit the scene for good.

* CODE 18 left the scene and went PC.
* DUKE and SUN DANCER/REGINA started to call out. STEVE
may follow later!

* X-TRO/ex.TALENT wants to start swapping again.

* According to DEFF/AVT, RADAR should have sold all of his
computer equiptment, and quit the scene for good!

* DRAGON/CENSOR DESIGN had some kind of stroke on the
STENA LINE boat terminal on the way to the CAMELOT party.
The other CENSOR members called an Ambulance, and he was
sent to a Danish hospital for recovery. According to someone,
this should have happend before!
                                 /Until next month!

Monthly Releases

  + MONTHLY RELEASES - THE 1ST-RELEASE CHARTS +
 ___________________________________________
Due to PSYCHOBILLY leaving the scene, CROSSFIRE and DUKE
takes over from this month off. We would like, on behalf of the
staff, to wish PSYCHOBILLY all the best in the future - may he
find what he is looking for!

Because of this, we thought it was apropriate to summon up
the rules of the MONTHLY RELEASES.

* A re-release or a rip-off gives a 5 point penalty.
* Previews only counts with the last digit for the quality.
* Low budget games (1 point+quality), budget games (2 points+
   quality), full-price games (3 points+quality).
* If a ware hits the boards already NTSC-fixed, 2 points will
be added, while only 1 point will be added if a PAL-version get
released, and a NTSC-version follows later. If the NTSC- and
PAL-version is not released by the same cracking-group, both
groups will get the points for the game + 1 extra point to the
group who supplied the fixed version.

Condition to get your release in here is, that it has been up-
loaded on ATLEAST one of these boards: FORPLAY, DOWN
BY LAW, EVIL ISLAND, TUNNEL OF WARES and DOMINIC!

If you have any complaints, leave e-mail to CROSSFIRE on the
following boards: DOWN BY LAW (# 30), EVIL ISLAND (# 22),
FORPLAY (# 21), TUNNEL OF WARES (# 96) or DOMINIC (# 2).
This month's headlines, release-wise :
___________________________
- DERBYSHIRE RAM releasing his first groupless crack after
   sometime in groups.
- TALENT back BIGTIME. F4CG also start popping up again.
- MOTIV 8, the new danish group starting up hard only a month
   after their birth.
- THE RULING COMPANY and SUCCESS, Holland's two biggest
crews now in co-op, and kicking like hell already!

In the U.S, it seems that DEMONIX is back in full effect. COD-
ERZ are still lazy, while EMPIRE and TSM still remains active,
but still asleep. Let's see what we can expect from this new
U.S. fixer-group PSI with members like MUTANT-X (ex-F4CG).
ALPHA FLIGHT (Germany, Holland, etc.) (5.Rank/6.9 points.)
_____________________________________________
This month they started out by releasing a preview of a game
named CITY INVADER (0.5) from CP VERLAG. Then followed the
game MUHLE (3.0) from ART PROJECT STUDIOS, which was rel-
eased on PAL. Finally they also put out the full version of the
game SALIVA KID from CP VERLAG (3.4). There was a huge dis-
cussion about this game. Some said AFL's version didn't work,
so TALENT put out another version, only that one contained
graphics-bugs, so AFL put out a second version, which is the
one they here get the well-deserved points for.

AVANTGARDE (Germany, U.K, U.S, etc.) (4.Rank/7.0 Points)
_____________________________________________
This month they put out a game named ZYTRON MEGABLASTER
from LEGENDARY DESIGNS (3.5), a pretty cool looking shoot'
em-up game coded by the guys in LEGEND. This month they also
blessed us with the WORKING version of REACTOR from TWICE
EFFECT (3.5), which was put out by VISION earlier, only their
version didn't work at all.

CHROMANCE (Hungary, Germany) (2.Rank/10.3 Points)
_____________________________________________
They started out by releasing a ware named DREAM BALL from
DREAMLINE KITCHEN (4.5) which was fixed by CODERZ when it
hit the boards. Later on they put out TETRIS (2.9), which dis-
pide the name isn't the old one. They also putted out another
ware named KIKUGI (2.9), both games was from a hungarian com-
pany called 576 BYTE.

DERBYSHIRE RAM (England) (7.Rank/3.2 Points)
_____________________________________________
This month he released a game on his holiday from groups. He
put out ASTRO PILOT (3.2) from SUNCOM, an australian game.

F4CG (Belgium, Italy, etc.) (8.Rank/0.6 Points)
_____________________________________________
This month we saw a little preview from them which was called
DBL CROTCH (0.6), a rather cute Tetris-clone thing.

MOTIV 8 (Denmark, Germany, etc.) (1.Rank/13.6 Points)
_____________________________________________
This new group started out by doing the first cracks this year.
First they put out DAVY JONES LOCKER (1.5) from the english
company RIVER SOFTWARE, then came DARK TOWER (1.5), also
from RIVER SOFTWARE. Later came the preview of a soon-com-
ing game SNIPER (0.3) from D-LITE DESIGNS. Then followed two
games from a MARKT 'N' TECKNIK collection-disk, their names
were EXPLOSION (1.8) and CIRCUIT (1.6). There was a little dis-
turbance around these two games, since somebody claimed they
were re-releases, because one of them was (c)'ed back in 1991.
However, all charges were dropped, since nobody could come
up with the acclaimed evidence.

MOTIV 8 (Denmark, Germany, etc.) (1.Rank/13.6 Points)
_____________________________________________
Later they released STARGATE from CP VERLAG, which is ig-
nored points-wise, as it was not yet translated into English.
Finally came RETRO TORQUE (3.2) from COMMODORE FORCE,
which was released on PAL. Finally came a copyable and trained
version of STARBRAIN from MARKT'n'TECKNIK (3.7), which was
released one month earlier by CHROMANCE, but due to their
version not being cracked, only intro-linked, MOTIV 8 gets the
points for it.

TALENT (England, Germany, Poland) (3.Rank/9.8 Points)
_____________________________________________
This month they gave us a preview named WORD UP from GOOV-
ING BYTES (0.8), a pretty decent tetris-clone. They also put
out a version of SALIVA KID from CP VERLAG, since it was ru-
moured that ALPHA FLIGHT's version bugged. Later it was dis-
covered, that TALENT's version contained graphics-bugs, so
ALPHA FLIGHT released a second version and got the points
for that very release. Later came KULFON IN DEMONLAND, a
Polish game from BMB, which was fixed from the begining by the
guys in DEMONIX (5.2). Then came THE KING (3.8) from MIRAGE,
which was fixed by DEMONIX aswell.

TRC + SUCCESS (Holland, Germany, etc.) (6.Rank/6.9 Points)
_____________________________________________
This new co-op started out by releasing a Ntsc-version of the
game MUHLE (3.5) from ART PROJECT STUDIOS, which ALPHA
FLIGHT put out as PAL some days earlier. It was fixed by CBA.
Then followed two pretty decent previews named WAR-FLAME
(0.8) a good looking shoot'em up, and METALLIC LEGEND (0.8)
from a Turkish company. Furthermore a German game came from
them named EXPERIENCE (1.8) from TAFANNI, released on PAL.

VISION (Denmark, Germany) (No Rank/-5 Points)
_____________________________________________
They had a very bad month this month, to say the VERY least.
They started out by releasing DECLEM from DOUBLE DENSITY
which was a re-release (-5), since it was first sold back in
1991 on an old edition of Magic Disk. Then they put out a ware
named REACTOR from TWICE EFFECT. Sadly, the crack did not
work proberly, since it fucked up after running the main-file.
Later ALPHA FLIGHT putted a WORKING version out, so they
will get the points for that very ware.

DEMONIX without question the favourite in January. CODERZ
are just limping after, and EMPIRE are still laying very low.
Let's see what the new US-fixer group PSI (PHUN-SOFT INC.)
has to offer in the future, with members such as MUTANT-X
(ex.DOMINATORS, F4CG), WHITE LIGHTNING, STYX and others.
But in general the US scene ought to wake up sooner or later!

Satirica

+ SATIRICA - THE AUTOPSY OF THE SCENE +
    ____________________________________
Welcome everybody to our satirical chapter SATIRICA! You may
wonder why we chose to change the name of this chapter, but
it has obvious reasons. First of all, we wanted a more fitting
name for this chapter, and second of all we have a staff-mem-
ber by the name of CROSSFIRE!

Nonetheless, we hope you will hate this chapter as much as we
hate you (if that is possible). Next month, the editor will be
situated at the scenes on the crime (the American boards), so
you can expect more ACTION in the next SATIRICA. Our goal is
to bend the truth a little, trying to show everyone how ridicu-
lous the scene really is. Whatever, enjoy everybody!
* The German phreaker PARSON has revealed to the American
LOW-LIFE MAGAZINE, that he has serious problems with his
English. Apparently he has so much problems with it, that he
asked his kinder-garden teacher to translate a few sentences
he could use on the boards. The most regular being- "Well, I
have to go out with my girl-friend XXX (insert name here), so
see you guys later" and "I masturbate infront of old ladies".
According to LOW-LIFE MAGAZINE, PARSON is nolonger the
owner of the SINGLE MEN OF THE 90's club. Apparently he was
tired of being constantly herrased by the few regular visitors
BOD, POWERPLANT and HOK, who believed the place could
become a gold-mine with so many people being fired from ALPHA
FLIGHT these days. As it turned out, the club was bought by
SORCERESS who's only comment was "It is a gold-mine alright".
* The American phreaker COLDRAKE (former sysop of CITADEL
OF ILLUSION) released a book, entitled "How to hit yourself in
the head with a big brick". The 1400 pages long book, includes
photo's of several known sceners trying out different methods
of how to hit yourself, using different sizes of bricks. It has
already become a HUGE succes in Germany, where an estimated
800.000 copies has already been torn from the shelves. At the
day of the release, members of TRSI and ALPHA FLIGHT met
up, to show how you can hit OTHER people in the head with a
big brick. The day after, SUPREME showed up at an interview
for LIFE-LESS MAGAZINE, where he stated "I am not the ele-
fant-man, it's just a bump on my head". SUPREME also stated,
that the reason for kicking so many people out of AFL lately,
was that- "I was beginning to get an inferiority-complex!".
* Did you know that the scene has a set of BEAVIS and BUTT-
HEAD of its own? Well, it does. The exact match can be found
in the swell satiric magazine GOSSIP, which is edited by the
partners BUD and SLASH. Their standard lines would be some-
thing like- "Then I beat him up, after the chick came infront
of me to take his punch". The mag is quite brutal, but that is
what makes it even more brilliant, especially because the bal-
ance between real-life/scene episodes are perfectly planed.
We at the SATIRIC editorial, would like to give this magazine a
very special GET LOST salute (which means we really like it!).

* Meanwhile at the cottage of POWERPLANT/LEGEND
"I got nothing to hide".

* Two of the biggest cracking groups in Europe, SUCCESS and
THE RULING COMPANY, has gone into co-operation. This is
the only big co-operation at the time, and this may result in
merging groups together becoming a fashion again. We spoke
with CBA/TRC about the co-operation, and he responded in
a very casual way- "I couldn't resist going for it, when I came
up with the name THE RULING SUCCESS COMPANY". Others
claim the co-operation is just an operation to save BURGLAR
from the bottle, because he will be too busy cracking for both
groups, that he will have no time to drink anymore beers!

* Meanwhile at the house of JACK DANIELS/AVANTGARDE
"I've got no idea what you guys are talking about!?!"

* The scene is an independent animal. Okay, that is true, but
it is also a very competetive animal. Recent talks on the U.S
boards reveals a new competition held between the top Euro
crackers BURGLAR, SUPREME and COUNT-ZERO. The compe-
tition is about LEGO. Who can build the biggest LEGO-HOUSE
in the space of one week. FAIRLIGHT is still undefeated in this
game, they have already managed to put up 3 LEGO-LANDS !?!

* RADAR is supposed to be COMPUTER-less. He was spotted
selling off his computer, in order to pay the rent for his
deluxe garbage-can. The landlord explains- "HARTMUT was 3
months behind, but eventhough he offered to clean out my
pool, he still have to pay for it".

+ NATURES CORNER - WATCHING THE SUN SET +
    _______________________________________
Welcome to Natures Corner, with your host, POWERPLANT of
LEGEND (shattered applause!).

PWP: Thank you! This month I have invited porno-star HOK of
TRSI, who has been offered a role in a new adult movie
entitled PISS'N'CANS. Tell me, what is this all about?

HOK: Oh shit, are you refering to that picture in PIRATES?

PWP: Ahaha, yeah, what a laugh man!

HOK: Well, atleast I don't have dumbo ears!
* A new group was introduced to the last last month. The name
of this new wonder-group is MOTIV 8. We spoke with the leader
CROSSFIRE, and he had the following comment about his new
group (which is co-lead by TRICKET) - "Well, we are 8 guys
with a motive to release. Actually we are 14 guys, but we are
still a group with a motive!!!". MOTIV 8 may rename into LTR
(LICENSE TO RELEASE), but right now they need to find a
proper MOTIV for this!

* Meanwhile at the house of SOLAR/F4CG
"Right on, they can call out, they can dance - My chickens
kicks your ass!"

* A new movie has hit the international box-offices. The movie
entitled- "RICHIE GOES TO NEW YORK" is about an unshaved
unemployed roofer, that seeks employment in the land of wealth
and opportunities. Using the standard lines "Oie, can ya get
me a job old bogger?" did not exactly work for RICHIE, and so
it all ended up with RICHIE pulling a gun, blowing off his head
with the brains splashing over at a nearby roof. The author of
the movie, SOLAR, admits that it may be too much for the
European audience, but the American youth seems to LOVE it-
especially the part with RICHIE going headless. According to
SOLAR, we can expect more movies starring RICHIE. Right now
they have just finished "RICHIE GOES BANANAS", "RICHIE
GOES SOLAR" and "RICHIE GOES AVANTGARDE" - all motion
pictures from the CHICKEN SALAD FILMINDUSTRY CO.
* JAZZCAT/ALPHA FLIGHT (The Australian phreaker) should
have been kicked out of his apartment for the second time.
According to the landlord, he was making wierd noices all the
time, saying like a dingo- making a fire-place in the middle of
the living-room. The landlord suspects JAZZCAT for being a
full-blooded Australian NATIVE. That explains the mess in the
house and all.

SATIRICA - THE AUTOPSY OF THE SCENE
WILL RETURN NEXT MONTH WITH MUCH MORE!

Global Report

GLOBAL REPORT - THE GUIDE TO THE HAPPENINGS
 ___________________________________________
Welcome to the new Global Report. This month, as you probably
already know, we have decided to use Global Report in a much
different respect. Beginning this month, we will take a closer
look at what is hot, and what is not. We also need your help to
send us reports or whatever you may have that could be worth
reading for our readers.

This month we have two reports: one about the latest edition
of the paper-magazine PIRATES, that report is written by me
(DUKE). The second report we have for you, is a party-report
from the RADWAR 7 party in Germany, that one brought to you
by our very own staff-member SPLATTERHEAD!
* The incredible paper-mag PIRATES is back on stage with yet
another mindblasting issue. This one holding a massive number
of pictures, with many of them being from overseas sceners,
and famous sceners in Europe.

The 56 pages long edition, was made possible by SOLAR/F4CG,
SCORPIE, KID and NINJA. On the final page, they announce
that this may be the last edition, as they are considering
taking on new grounds, that being SNES in this case.

But to sum up the contents of this issue, SOLAR made some
excellent articles, such as one from the ECTS show in London.
Pictures were included from the trip, and it gives you a good
idea of the atmosphere and the happenings throughout it.
Another interesting article was printed. This one was not
written by SOLAR though, but apparently by AT and T. The
article was made to explain a new system, which could be the
GRIM REAPER for the future existance of the phreaking from
Europe. I won't give it away, read PIRATES for further details!

Two portraits were made, one with NINJA, and one with NEWS-
COPY of GENESIS PROJECT (General editor of PROPAGANDA).
Also two interviews were printed, one with THE BREAKER of
TRSI, and one with the American CYBERMOSH/THE ALLIANCE!

Other than that, PIRATES offered the latest news and gossip
from the scene. Unlike most paper-mags, the news was hot, and
that gives you an idea, of how fast it goes into production.
Here follows a list of the pictures included in this edition of
PIRATES (just in case you might miss a certain picture, you
would know who to contact to get it!) :

Americans/Canadians :
DELTAR+STEALTH/TSM, SWAN SONG/DEMONIX, TRISTAN+
RICH+BOOZE+EXTREMIST+VIZZ/EMPIRE, DEAD ZEPPELIN,

around in the scene anymore:

EXCELL, FLETCH, JUST ICE, DAVE, HOOKIE, RADAR, JOHAN,
KID, SCORPIE, HITCHICKER, CASE, NINJA, CRZAY and last but
not least PSYCHOBILLY.

There are many more pictures, but these are from the sceners
including the additional. Coming up, how to reach PIRATES!
We at THE PULSE MAGAZINE would like to encourage everyone
to support this superb paper-mag. It is worth having around
in our fight to keep the 64 alive, therefore grab this address,
and send the following material (interviews, votes, reports,
photo's) to:
                   SOLAR/F4CG
                   X.XXXXXXXXX. XX XXX
                   XXXX XXXXXX
                   XXXXXXX

That concludes our report about the latest issue of PIRATES.
We suggest you find a way to get a hold of it, chances are you
might not get a second chance. Thanks must go to TBB/TRSI
for making PIRATES available to us. More to come, wiggle joy!
 + RADWAR 7 PARTY REPORT by SPLATTERHEAD/AFL +
  ___________________________________________
It was already 14.05 when I arrived at the party-place. I just
walked towards a group of guys, and I found out that I made a
good guess, as I recognized JACK ALIEN of AVANTGARDE
between them. After saying hello to him, I noticed that there
were a lot of 64 guys in that group, mainly AVT members.

After some time, JACK DANIELS/AVT got his car to drive to
the football-match, but since he had a really good parking-
place (right infront of the party-place) he decided not to go.
After boozing with them, we walked to the partybus, and drove
to the football-place.

After some time some guys decided to form a team, and so it
became SOLAR and SCORPIE at the back - COUNT ZERO and
3DK in the middle, and FREESTYLE, JACK DANIELS, SUCKER
and an Amiga guy in the front, with me as the goal-keeper. We
had to play two matches, and we wom them both, so we ended
as the winners!

We had to hurry, since the bus would come soon to pick us up.
So we got in the bus, and after some minutes, we were back at
the disco. There we had to wait for 2 hours, before we could
enter, so it was time to eat, and meet some friends. I met up
with some other Dutch guys, like LEGEND (Amiga) and went to
the local snackbar. Then one of the LEGEND members and I
decided to do some graffity, so we went away. After some time,
we came back, and 3DK told me that the Germans from ALPHA
FLIGHT had arrived, so I decided to check that out and met
some of them.

Then it was time to enter the party-place. The entrance fee
was 25 DM, it included 2 free drinks, and a party-poster and
a party-sticker. Quite cool! Then something lame happend, the
organizers did not allow you to bring in any alcohol, and since
I had this bottle of Safari, I had to leave my stuff overhere.
But any non-alcoholic drinks were allowed. Strange rules!!!

We entered the disco. Nothing much to do actually, there was
a big screen, and 4 TV's to watch some film off the meetings
before. We met up with some of the AFL members, and after
getting a new AFL spread-disk (not so easy to get, since you
also were not allowed to bring any disks inside)- I walked
around, and drank a bit.

Since you were allowed to set up your computers in the pub at
the side of the building, I decided to see if anyone was there,
but noone had done this. I went back to the disco, and apart
from eating once more, I stayed there all night.

The demo-competition was quite cool, there were four 64 demos
for the competition, and 2 for both the PC and the Amiga. The
64 demos were: (1st place) TORTURE III by PADUA, (2nd place)
WEST LIGHT by SMASH DESIGNS, (3rd place) LEMMINGS by
DIGITAL EXCESS, (4th place) NIE WIEDER FACISMUS (no more
fascism) by KOPIDO GAMES.

It was getting quite late, so lots of people tried to get some
sleep. I also tried to sleep at 6.30 or so, and I even slept 45
minutes (wow). The next day I had my exams, so we went home
at about 8.00 AM.

It was quite cool to meet all the people, but the party itself
was average. Let me give you some positive and negative
points- starting in the positive ones:

* Free place to give your jacket'n'stuff away.
* Friendly organizers.
* Buses to/from the football-place to the disco.
* Enough waiters and organizers.
* Interesting people to meet.
* Free food Sunday morning.

The NEGATIVE things to say about RADWAR 7:
* No alcohol (brought by you) or disks were allowed inside.
* The martial arts fight was between guys, not between girls
  like they said.
* The demo-competition was quite fucked up, since the colours
and the sound were falling away quite often.
* No barbeque.
* No screen where you you could write your handle.
* The graffity wall was just some paper (5*A4) on the wall.
* The buses only drove once a day on Sunday.
Some funny things that happend:

* JACK ALIEN/AVANTGARDE (the megaboozer) who finally fell
asleep at 8.00 AM, when most of the guys already left!
* Someone of SPREADPOINT lost his name-sign, and (as he was
one of the organizers, it was important) he promised 3 free
drinks for the guy who found it. Guess who found it? Right!

These were the people who were there from the 64-scene:

(AVANTGARDE) JACK ALIEN, FREESTYLE, JACK DANIELS and
DEFF - (ALPHA FLIGHT'70) MARC, MAX, STING, RRR, CHR,
SYS and SPLATTERHEAD - (RSI) HOK, COUNT ZERO, IRATA
and COMMUNIST - (ex.RSI) TERMO, POSDNUGS, TBB and
PSYCHOBILLY - (GENESIS PROJECT) AIRWOLF, L.A.STYLE
and SNACKY - (F4CG) SCORPIE and SOLAR - (ATLANTIS)
LYNX and RAMIREZ - (SUCCESS+TRC) RAZE, SHOCKER and
B-WYZE - MAJESTY/TALENT - X-TRO/ex.TALENT - (SLASH
DESIGNS) SPECTATOR and WXL - (VISION) DR.JONES, CURLIN
and PEACEMAKER - TOXYC/IMPRESSION - EDDIE/ex.EPIC -
3DK/ex.DOMINATORS - AEG/SMASH DESIGNS - (ex.PARA-
MOUNT) TOM TAYLOR, MANIAC and SUCKER - and last but not
least JIHAD/ex.ARCADE.

I met noone from PADUA. Strange!

Okay, so overall it was average. Some cool things, some less
cool things. SPLATTERHEAD for THE PULSE MAGAZINE!

Board Report

+ THE BOARD REPORT - THE FEBRUARY EDITION +
    ________________________________________
Welcome to this month's board-report, with your usual host.

This month I have the story of what happened at the house of
GREGO/ILLUSION and SUSIEUZI/FAIRLIGHT when the feds vi-
sited their homes in Houston/Texas. Since it also very much
concerns the future of both of these people's BBS's IN LIVING
COLOR and INTERSECTION, I thought it would be appropriate
enough to put it here. All these following informatios was ga-
thered during a conference between me, GREGO, SUSIEUZI and
SERPENT/ILLUSION, whom I would also like to thank for set-
ting up the conference (Although it was at 4 AM my time, ahm!).

The feds first decided to visit SUSIEUZI in the early morning.
She opened the door, and was more or less PUSHED into her
apartment, and 7 employees of the government stepped in her
door. They confiscated everything which could have the least
to do with her computer-activities, with the excuse, she had
been using ILLEGAL codes to call overseas with. They also
confiscated several other things, which had NOTHING to do
with her activities. Among other things they confiscated a
bible (RIGHT! A bible!), and even some of her UNDERWEAR (It's
making me SAD to think, that the feds in Texas has not got
anything better to do, than to herrase people, especially in a
place like Houston, where the crime-rate is MORE than high
enough as it is!!!). At some point, SUSIE had to go to her
bathroom, but NOPE, atleast not without female fed-guidance.
Neither was she allowed to call her place to work to tell them
she wasn't coming this day, because the feds were terrified
she would tip off MR.DEETER (GREGO), who was just living two
blocks down the street. All her equiptment was confiscated,
and her board THE INTERSECTION was obviously taken down
with it. SUSIE has a tremendous problem paying a lawyer. She
will need around $3000. However, her friends in the LBDSA has
started collecting money for her trial recently. So far $150
has been collected. Incase YOU would like to give a little con-
tribution, call the Houston-board IMPROBABILITY DRIVE INN
at XXX-XXX-XXXX, and leave mail to SUSIEUZI/FAIRLIGHT. All
donations will be highly appreciated, as she is in big need.
This is meant seriously, so show yourself from your good side!
During the feds visit, SUSIEs home was more or less destroyed.
The feds messed up BADLY, but more about that later. In order
to make her feel pressure, the feds told SUSIE, that they had
been bugging her line since September 28th, only this was the
first time they messed up. This could simply not be the truth,
since her line was first opened about 10 days later, on October
7th. So here they messed up, but it was not their first time.
Not much time after the feds left SUSIEs home, they arrived at
GREGO's place. More or less the same thing happend there. His
equiptment and SEVERAL items which had absolutely NOTHING
to do with hacking of any kind was confiscated. They also con-
fiscated programs like FAST HACKEM, HACKER (the game), and
SAVAGE TERM, and called them HACKER-PROGRAMS. Boy,
imagine their disappointment when they realized the truth was
pretty different. Hahaha!!!
This alone showed exactly HOW much knowledge they had to it
all-JACKSHIT! Also a lot of private numbers to friends were
confiscated and registred as (get this) ILLEGAL CREDITCARD
INFORMATION. What a laugh, nevertheless, they were 100% se-
rious about it. Furthermore, they told GREG lots of lies. Among
other things, that they knew, that he had been abusing around
600 different toll-free numbers in the states in order to call
out with. They also told him, that they had informations about
a so-called associate he had in EGYPT. This turned out to be
something they found on a small paper-sheet in his home. ONCE
again the lame feds fucked up. In the game "INFIDEL", you find
a matchbox with a name on. GREGO wrote down the name to be
able to remember when he wanted to continue his play. The feds
found the name and claimed they knew he had contact with him.
It makes me sad to know, that this kind of INCOMPETABLE no-
brains runs the law-enforcement. They could not even steal
candy from a 3-years old without waking him up!!! - Truly and
utterly PATHETIC!!! GREGO has his lawyer, he is putting his
future in the hands on a lawyer named MIKE DARWIN from Was-
hington D.C.
But now, it has actually comed to our attention, that the feds'
search of GREGO+SUSIE's home were ILLEGAL! They didn't
have a warrant, nor did they have a proper cause. They used
UN-NECESSARY VIOLANCE to enter their homes, so both will
probably (and hopefully) go free of all charges, since the feds
wasn't even allowed to do what they did. Furthermore, of what I
could understand from GREGO and SUSIE, they both intended
to sew the feds' asses off, once everything is back to normal.
Both IN LIVING COLOR and THE INTERSECTION will be back up,
as soon as they get their equiptment back, IF it is still O.K.
The feds threated it VERY badly when they packed it.

Just a mind-teaser for you now..
Rumours has it, that both GREGO and SUSIEUZI had been ANO-
NYMOUSLY tipped off by some creep. What if I told you, that
DERBYSHIRE RAM/ex-ILLUSION was actually also more or less
turned in recently to some UK software-companies for game-
cracking? Wouldn't that look like someone is trying to destroy
the very last pieces of ILLUSION? Well, surely it COULD be a
coincidence, but all this suddently happening so shortly after
each other - I DON'T THINK SO!!!

As last words, we at the staff of THE PULSE are wishing both
GREGO and SUSIEUZI the VERY best for the future, and we
hope that you will kick those goddamn incompetable feds' ass-
es to the deepest dungeons of hell.

Also, thanks to THE SERPENT of ILLUSION for setting up the
conference with SUSIEUZI and GREGO for me in less time than
it takes me to fall asleep (Intern joke!).

                             - THE PULSE MAGAZINE -
We Bring You The News From The Source!

+ THE DANISH BOARD DOMINIC IS BACK ONLINE AGAIN! +
    __________________________________________
Remember the article in the DECEMBER-issue of the BOARD
REPORT? Incase you do, you read about the most lame act ever
done in this century, namely the formatting of the BRILLIANT
Danish board DOMINIC. We all know it was done by CAVRON of
THE RULING COMPANY. Of course he denies it, but who would
not in his situation? He even tried to blame me for it, and
using me as a cover-up. Lame, but nevermind, because that
is not what I am here to tell you about today!

TRICKET, once the leader of THE DOMINATORS for 4 years,
and later a member of the demo-group VISUAL REALITY had his
board formatted in the early days of November, now it is back!
DOMINIC is now MOTIV 8-HQ, and the sysop TRICKET is back
from a little rest, and is aswell a proud member of MOTIV 8!
The board reached it's 100'th call already on the fourth day!!!

We hope, all old users will return within TOO long time, cause
it sure WAS one of the best which have ever runned in Europe,
and it still has ALOT of potential, so call it at +XX-XXXXXXXX,
and don't hesitate. It runs on 300/1200/2400 baud, and it is
online 24 hours a day, so you got NO excuse!!!

Profile

+ THE FEBRUARY PROFILE - HAIN OF TALENT +
        _____________________________________
Now that we have reached the year of 1994, it is a tremendous
pleasure, that we are still able to spot talents, aswell as
routined sceners still active in the scene. With the departure
of many western sceners, the scene has gained new blood from
the east, opening doors for a new and exciting generation.

This time we present a person, that is both active in the demo,
aswell as the cracking scene. It is in the cracking-scene that
he has made a name of himself though, putting out 1st-releases
like no other cracker. He is an interesting person in so many
ways, and surely he would be the choice if you were to point
out the man of the future. Please welcome, HAIN of TALENT!
[D] Welcome TOMEK. Eventhough you have made quite a break-
through on the international cracking-scene, you are still
quite unknown to the ordinary scener. Please give us a resume
of your career in the scene, up to now.

[H] Thanks ALEX. Well, in 1989 i bought a 64 with a tape-rec-
order. In the beginning I was just playing games, but later on
I started to code. I saw some intros, and then I got to know a
guy by the name of PETER, and we started a two-man group.
Later on he bought an Amiga, and I asked my other friend, his
name was JARRI (he was at the time leader of the biggest
Polish group called PARADOS) if I could join in. He let me
join, it was in 1991, at that time PARADOS was the biggest
Polish group around, and one of the very few aswell. In 1992
there were some organization problems in the group, and it
split up. Me, BRUSH, LONGER, JETBOY and a few other built
up ELYSIUM. It started to grow, and right now it is one of the
biggest Polish groups. The last holidays I was asked by SIX-
TEN (MOREN/SUCCESS) to join SUCCESS. Then I started
travelling from SUCCESS to CHROMANCE, and back again. Now
I am in TALENT!

[D] Please tell us why you have travelled from SUCCESS to
CHROMANCE so many times!

[H] I will tell you why SUCCESS is not the group for me. At
first they have got enough crackers- like BURGLAR, SILVER
SURFER, just to name a few. Also the German section can
crack, for example LIFESTYLE, so there was no job for me. I
could only crack Polish games, and that was for sure no fun.
The second thing: the only reason why I joined a foreign group,
was calling-cards. Simple as that! Lately, SUCCESS has had
some problems with getting cards, but overall the group is very
good. But I have got many friends in SUCCESS- like MOREN,
BURGLAR, SILVER SURFER and NIGHTSHADE, but I prefered
staying in CHROMANCE though.

[D] So are you planning on staying with TALENT this time?

[H] Yes, I think so, atleast for some time. Even if I got some
offers from other groups lately!

[D] You are also very involved with the demo-scene, tell us a
little about that.

[H] I am of course a part of ELYSIUM, which is a legal group.
Right now we are working on a cooperation-demo together with
TABOO, named ALTERED STATES. We planed on releasing it at
the CAMELOT party, but we did not finish it in time. It will
probably be released at the FAIRLIGHT party in GOTHENBURG
this easter.

[D] We are definately looking forward to that. So what are
your functions in ELYSIUM then?

[H] I am coding, a little swapping, and together with BRUSH
taking care of the organization.

[D] Do you have high ambitions with ELYSIUM in the future?

[H] Surely, the 5th place in the demo-charts would be cool.
Our demo will prove that the Polish scene is growing, and you
may find a lot of talents here, and I hope we will win the FLT
party competition. I think, out of respect for CAMELOT, that
our demo is better than TOWER POWER.

[D] That sounds very promising. You have become quite an
established cracker in the scene, with a lot of 1st-releases
lately. How have you managed to reach such a kind of succes,
being a Polish cracker and all?
[H] Generally I do not like 1st-releases at all, just because
usually they are badly cracked. Personally I prefer quality
cracking. For some time there was no competition for me in
Poland, so I had first-bid on everything. On the other hand, I
personally know a lot of people making games, and I get the
games from them far before the games are in the shops.

[D] How does the future look for the C64 in Poland, games-
wise?

[H] At first there is a lot of 64-users in Poland, mainly
playing games of course. Lately a lot of sceners started to
write own games- it is becoming a kind of fashion in Poland.
Also the copy-right was finally set up, so it will also help
the companies to release games in Poland. The future seems to
be bright in Poland, for the 64.

[D] You have had a lot of problems with the Polish Telecom
lately, please tell us about those problems!

[H] When I started to call out in September, I was using the
usual AT and T direct. It should be for free, but when I got my
phone-bill for September, I noticed that it was not for free.
My parents got mad, and I was told to sell my computer to pay
the bill. But later on the things were cleared up, Telecom
admitted their mistake with the toll-free numbers, and aborted
my bill.

[D] So now you are back calling out again?

[H] Yes, I was calling out the end of December, and the begin-
ning of January. But again shit happens, and my bill for Janu-
ary was huge. I have to clear the things up, until I can start
calling out again.

[D] Would you say that it is a big problem getting cards these
days for you?

[H] Well, I have never had to get the cards by myself, as there
is always someone else supplying me. First MOREN of SUCCESS
was getting cards for me when I was in SUCCESS- when I was in
CHROMANCE, JAYCE D and MR.WAX supplied me, and now
MAJESTY supplies all the cards that I need in TALENT.

[D] TALENT has been quite unactive wares-wise lately. Do you
think recruiting you, would change all that?

[H] I do not think recruiting me would change the groups poli-
tics, but on the other hand, according to MAJESTY, the group
is going to grow in the near future.

[D] I look forward to seeing that, TALENT has always been a
great group in my opinion. Who do you admire the most in the
64-scene, and why?

[H] In the cracking-scene I admire for example BURGLAR,
BACCHUS and ANTITRACK for their abbilities to crack. On the
demo-scene, coders from TABOO (KM, MMS), because they are
very talented. SLAMMER of CAMELOT is also a very good
coder, same goes to TRON of FAIRLIGHT. OXYRON's demos has
a very advanced code, but there is no design, so that is the
reason why I do not like them all that much!

[D] What are your future plans with your cracking, and your
demo-activities?

[H] Obviously I will stay on the 64 as long as possible. After
ELYSIUM has released their demo at the FAIRLIGHT party, we
are going to concentrate on making games, which is getting to
be a very good business here in Poland. Of course I am not
going to buy any AMIGA or PC, but maybe I will buy a CONSOLE,
or a SNES!

[D] Yep, there can be only one scene. Do you predict the 64
to have a long existance in the Polish market?

[H] Yes, I think so, because the 64 games are still much cheap-
er than on any other machine today. As long as there is a lot
of users in Poland, there will always be people making games,
and getting money for it.

[D] So how much can you get selling a game in Poland then?

[H] For example companies like LK AVALON pays about 3-400$
for a minimum budget game. But the advantage of this system
is that you can just go to the company, give them the game,
and get the money at once.

[D] How much does a 64 cost in Poland today?

[H] You can buy a used one with a drive for around 150$, and
a new one with a drive costs maybe around 250$.

[D] That is quite cheap. Anyway, we are moving closer towards
the end of this interview (live over the phone). Do you wish to
say hello to some of your friends before we end this maybe?

[H] Sure, I just hope that I will not miss anyone. First of all
the whole TALENT and ELYSIUM crew, TABOO, CHROMANCE,
SUCCESS, ZEBHYR/INFLEXION, TBB and PSYCHOBILLY/RSI,
MORRIS/EXTACY, BACCHUS/FAIRLIGHT, ANTITRACK/F4CG,
ZORE and SATAN/VISION, MASON/MOTIV8, DUKE/REGINA,
and everyone else I know in the scene.

[D] Okay, thanks a lot for the interview, it has been an exper-
ience doing one over the phone again (quite difficult really).
Do you have any last comments before we close the book on
this one?

[H] Thanks for interviewing me, and do NOT miss ALTERED
STATES from ELYSIUM and TABOO..
                                  THE END

TOWER POWER by CAMELOT (Review)
____________________________
STEVE about the coding,
As usual, a real saucy bit of allright DENMARK. First we win
the European Soccer Championship, and then The Party'93 C64
democompetition. What else can we possibly hope for? Though,
this time all credits goes to one person, namely SLAMMER.
Worth mentioning is: Rotating vectorbob-objects (with hidden
faces), a checkboard with Y-rotation, a fractal-image plotter,
a (great) shadowcaster-routine (A lightsource represented
by a sprite moving behind a CML logo, casting a shadow onto
the ground whereon it is positioned), a fantastic vector-"TV-
BOX" (with filled images on each side), and a marvelous round
vectorball consisting of no less than 72 (filled) faces!!!
Apart from that, a lot of work has been put into constructing
it all as a trackmo. Today's absolute winner, and a stunning
90% for TOWER POWER.

SUN DANCER about the graphics,
Excellent dude! This is the winner demo, from The PARTY '93.
And I guess it deserves it.
MINDMOVER (VIC), KRING, NEPTUNE and ROB (WAVE) all did a
remarkable job.
ROB performed some truly stunning pictures, one of them also
participating in the graphics competition at The PARTY '93.
Why he wasn't ranked higher is a mystery to me.
MINDMOVER did the usual mindmoving work. (Atleast his girl-
friend hasn't talked him out of computers yet!). His CAMELOT
logo is probably the best logo, I have seen all year. Also he
did a very artistic 4 by 4 charset.
I wonder why CAMELOT's graphicians aren't ranked higher in
the charts. They are the finest from the Danish demo-scene.
But also CAMELOT has a PC locked up somewhere. (TFF's are
easy to spot, when your daily work is playing around with MS-
WINDOWS). This demo gets 90% for the graphics..

DRAX about the music,
Using the theme of BACK'S TOCATTA in the intro was okay, I
like BACK. Combining it with some disco demo-music, is accept-
able - but the passage from the TOCATTA to the disco-style
could have been better. Moving on to the next tune, JEFF
uses a nice way of changing the cords. Starting in a scale, and
changing into a totally different tune, without spoiling the
music, which is quite impressive. The bass-drums are remark-
able, but I sure like new ideas. Well done JEFF (by the way, I
like that screen very much). Well, after some time, the music
turns into some techno alike music, sounds a bit like METAL!
In the 3rd tune techno appears, I guess lots of people like
that - I don't, but the music still contains several elements,
which shows us that JEFF isn't Mr.Anybody, but an extremely
good musician indeed - nice sounds! By using ring-modulation
in the bass, you get a nice effect. By sliding down the ring-
modulation voice, you can achieve some far more interesting
things (that was not a comment for JEFF, but to other music-
ians. In the end part, we hear a house sounding tune, with some
neat instruments. A real end-tune, nice work JEFF.

_________________________________
STEVE about the coding,
This demo was ranked 2nd at The PARTY. And I still haven't
figured out why!! Therefore I will go through each part, and
hopefully convince everyone that there's not much worth
mentioning about this one. Either read it, or just go on to
the next editors remarks about this demo.
The intro consists of some graphics, and a horizontal scroller
with depth in it (looks like it's been turned 10 degrees on the
x-axis). Done a million times before.
Next part is a raytracing. Horay. I'm thrilled and overexcited.
I mean, do people still think it actually requires SKILLS to
convert graphics from one machine to another?!
In this part, the rotating balls can shift colours. But I'd say
just about anyone can control the colourram by now, right!?!
2nd part is a new samplepart from CYCLEBURNER of CONTEX.
Whoops?! What did I just say? Seriously, this part is a truck-
load of flashing stribes and squares, all following some great
music. The music IS great, but hey, CYCLEBURNER introduced
us all to this type of demoparts, and personally, I got REAL
sick and tired of them after seeing one in each f...... CONTEX
demo for years and years!
3rd part is a huge hires (1 colour) image of a VIKING. I can
only say; We have a scanner at our school, too..
4th part is a strecherscroll by BOB, like the ones we all did
around the IKARI/ZARGON party. Haha, BOB. Good one, there.
(Assuming that it really WAS a joke?!)
5th part. More samples?! But as I ran to the toilet for a buck-
et, other effects than flashing fortunately popped up. A
shame that the horizontal scroller flickers so much. Bottom
scroller was somewhat better.
The end part is a collection of precalculated (atleast I assume
they are precalculated) and some colourcycling. Innovating
combination indeed (NOT!).

I know that taste is individual, but I get paid for telling MY
opinion (Paid, DUKE.. PAID!! (ed. NOT, STEVE.. NOT!!)), and
except for liking one of the sampled tracks, I can't make up
(grin) a whole lot of positive things to say here.
Pull the other one, CENSOR!! Value: 60%..

SUN DANCER about the graphics,
Blessed are the sick. But just because you are sick, doesn't
mean you can't do graphics.
This demo starts with a single-colour intro screen. The text
displayed got me wondering; Does DPAINT have an AMIGA or a
PC? The rest of the demo features graphics, by such a talent
as DRAGON. And a "hey-I-chose-the-easy-way" picture
presented by ALFATECH. Also SWALLOW proved to be real
talented in the art of making circles, triangles and other very
cool stuff.
The tatoo convertion by ALFATECH looks quite cool, to say
the least. But generally I don't like graphics made this way.
We have all seen the previous CENSOR demos, like the WON-
DERLAND legends. There is no question that CENSOR's artists
can make very pretty graphics. Therefore they should not be
judged by this demo, which isn't much of a regular demo. New
style, and not much room for graphical showoff. Value : 50%..

DRAX about the music,
SPASMOLYTIC includes several classical tunes, beginning with
the intro-music made by HOLGER KNIPPING (from the game
"CHAMBERS OF SHAOLIN"), which is a very styly tune, that
sounds a bit like GALWAY, with some pretty good instruments -
especially the leader is neat. In the first part the turn has
come to the master himself, MARTIN GALWAY. This tune was
taken from an old game called "TERRA CRESTA", listen to that
filter-leader, it's fucking great. It's like rubber, he is able
to bend the leader like nobody else has ever been able to.
Other things worth mentioning from this demo, would be the
music from the third part by AVALON. Lousy instruments, but
certainly an original idea - composing some Arabic-like music,
that's a decent idea. As always in a CENSOR DESIGN demo, we
are introduced to samples. This one with a nice combination of
high quality samples and synth sounds, some very interesting
arpeggio-sounds - the music fits very well to the rest of the
screen, and that makes the general impression of the demo
much better. The final tune was made by JEROEN TEL, taken
from an old car-game. Choice of music gives a rating of 73%..

COMA LIGHT 11 by OXYRON (Review)
___________________________
STEVE about the coding,
Before reviewing this excellent demo, I'd like the OXYRON guys
to know that I've been doing some thinking (for them..) and
found some names you could use for future demos. (I mean, 11
demos named COMA LIGHT?! Geeez..).
Anyway, the names I'd like you to consider are: Snigerpindsvin,
Draeberkolibri, Lystmordercykel, Lemlaesterblyant and Kung-
fufaar (No, no translation. But I am sure people who speak
Danish would agree that they have as much meaning to them, as
COMA LIGHT - grin).
Well, I really like this demo, in my personal opinion it should
have got the 2nd place at the CAMELOT part. A quick rundown
of the effects: 6144 sinplots (Look aweful, but is OK anyway.),
glenz tv-box, filled vector-spaceships and other objects
(which are all more interesting than the usual boring cubes), a
real fast mandelbrot calculator, shadedots-transformer
(small, but looks nice (Det sagde hun ogsaa i gaar!!)), texture
mapping (Well..The idea is there, but I prefer DOOM on my
486dx33!), gele-dragonball, scaled rasterbars (horizontal
rasterbars with z-pos. When I saw it, I couldn't help screaming
WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?!.. Real simple, but still nearly
revolutionary, considering that horizontal rasterbars is one
of the oldest C64 demo-effects), Shadow of the plane II (but
like the CML shadow-caster.. This one is cooler, though) and
finally a totally awesome fractal-zoomer.. (If any of you have
seen CRYSTAL DREAMS II by TRITON (PC) you'll know why i'm
thrilled. To those who haven't, I can say that it's a mandel-
brot fractal beeing zoomed "realtime". It's an animation, but
looks soooo cool!).

This demo is worth 85%...
SUN DANCER about the graphics,
It is okay when people like BLACKMAIL demos. It is also okay if
you like sadomasochism. However, it is not allright to make as
direct style-copy as RRR does.
ASMODIS presents some really nice single-colour graphics, in
this demo. BIZ KID also proves to be a better graphician, than
a mag-editor. All in all, too bad this demo wasn't ranked any
higher at The PARTY, it deserves it.
With a single exception, OXYRON has a talented graphics-
posse. Let's hope the public starts voting for them, at future
parties - and a 56% rating for the graphics..

DRAX about the music,
PRI made all the music in this demo, beginning with a nice
introduction tune, containing some nice filter chords. Most of
the music in this demo is pretty good, with a sort of guitar
sound tune in the second part, and a disco-tune with some
jazz inspired chords in the 3rd part. The turn disk tune is
really good (2 speed tune I suppose). Moving on to the 5th
part, we find an action-like tune, with fast bass and chords.
The 6th part ha a pretty good tune, although it could have
been done better. In the 7th part, the tune is starting very
mysteriously, then taking over by a very catching filter-lead,
with some extremely interesting chords. The tune in the 8th
part starts out with the chords fading, funky bass, slowly
beginning to build up the tune. It is an extremely disco-alike
tune, the sort that I would call JEROEN TELLY chords, very
simpel, but okay - because not that many are able to do them
properly. The end tune is the best of them all. Check out this
demo, I will give it 85% for the musics.

BEYOND IMAGINATION by ANTIC PRODUCTIONS (Review)
_________________________________________
STEVE about the coding,
Nice to see that one of my old acquaintances, DEPEH, is
still active in the scene. The intro in this demo is absolutely
GREAT! It's a small show, where you see an arrow selecting
the computer to run the demo on. First it tries a 386 and shows
a PC bootsequence, then tries an Amiga (guru meditation
occurs.. What an Amiga does best!!) and finally selects a C64.
The intro is a PC inspired dot-tunnel. Not too wild, but (as
far as I remember) not exactly seen on the C64 before, the
raytrace part has nothing to do with raytracing (if it's sup-
posed to, then it's really unsuccesful!), but has a GIF (ehrm..
Well, atleast it IS a picture!) in the background. I miss some-
thing like that in other raytraceparts.
Next part is an x-ray vector-object. Neat, then there's a
check-part with a vector-chessboard (yawn again!), and
finally another animation. This time it's a city rotating. Why
not! Except for the intro, this demo is rather boring. 45%..
SUN DANCER about the graphics,
Apart from a REALLY ugly intro charset, I like this demo.
Eventhough most of the showed stuff are simple made, it has a
nice visual effect.
And I guess it is okay to find inspiration in old PRETZEL LOGIC
demos aswell, right CREEPER? - 49% for the graphics..

DRAX about the music,
ZYRON/ANTIC made all the music in this demo. Beginning with
the intro-tune, it's a typical demo-tune, nothing special. I
find it rather boring. In the first part the music gets a lot
better, it fits very well into the part - well done. The music
in 2nd part reminds me of 1984 (was that the idea?). We meet a
typical demo-tune again in the 3rd part, try some other chords
ZYRON. The best tune of the demo comes in the 4th part, with
a very interesting sound. ZYRON uses the sound of a tele-
phone to reflect the sounds of different office blocks. The
tune in the end is quite okay. It sounds like a real end-tune,
you certainly like to use WAVEFORM 11, don't you ZYRON?
Overall I give the music 58%..

TORTURE PART III by PADUA (Review)
____________________________
STEVE about the coding,
I was THRILLED to see that PADUA was back. But it didn't last
very long. Maybe they just should have stayed lazy. I dunno..
I can only say that I am disappointed..
First there's a whole lot of fading up'n'down, then a mini-
transformer, then a logo-stretcher-whatever, and then 2
border-scrolls. ?!. More morphing objects, small interference-
circles, 7 colour vectorbobs (stinks!), a metamorph of the
coder and his girl-friend (the part I like the most - probably
because I am a real romantic, and I think the idea is sweet),
then a picture of a REALREALREAL sweet creature-dude with
a huge nose (I can imagine him (?) saying "Gotta love me.." and
finally an exploding PADUA logo.
I think the demo is a mess, and it keeps on loading and loading
all the time. I will give it nothing more than 55%..

SUN DANCER about the graphics,
Another production, and another low graphical performance.
CREAT, MAD, FRANKY, ARENA and ROMAN makes the effort.
Apart from a few goldies, they unfortunately fails. This demo
is not a very pretty demonstration.
It is not good, when I like the demo-note more than the demo
itself. Sigh, I thought PADUA had more than this..

A disappointing 44% for the graphics..

DRAX about the music,
The intro music is by THE SYNDROM, that one is very short,
but it sounds okay. In the 1st part, we encounter music by
TRACKER. I like the bombastic instruments, which sounds much
like a kettle-drum. 2nd part has music by BULLDOG, while the
3rd part tune was made by JOHANNES BJERREGAARD (check
out his PC-music, it's very good). The 4th part has some quite
old music by S.PEDERSEN, while the music in the 5th part, was
made by AMJ/TOPAZ. That tune is simply fantastic - thumbs
up for him, he is on my personal top ten! The music in the 6th
part was made by EVS/20CC. I believe the tune is good, if you
like that kind of music that is. But I think EVS could do much
better. Anyway, you guys out there better listen to the tune
till its end, because it also has some okay moments! The 7th
part has a very Tubular Bells alike tune made by EVS aswell.
Although it's not converted correctly, it doesn't really matter
that much - and I think that wasn't the idea anyway! The 8th
part has a 13 second long tune, also made by EVS - which is
above average. 9th part has music by PRI, some professional
chord-shifts show us that he is not anybody. The end tune
makes my tears flow. It's a pity I haven't got much of your
music EDWIN - feel free to send, I'll send you back! - 71%..

After the event in HERNING, SUN DANCER is back with another
edition of PIXELS.

This chapter is about graphics and those who make it, and will
probably not be worth reading for anybody except graphicians.
This month we have an interview with MINDMOVER/CAMELOT,
reviews from the ELYSIUM+ANTIA party in Poland, and the
usual words of wisdom.

The graphics was made available to me by DUKE, with additional
assistance from HAIN/TALENT, who so kindly helped out with
the necessary information from the ELYSIUM+ANTIA party..
2. SPEAKING OF GRAPHICS/GRAPHICIANS
______________________________
Nothing is more frustrating for a graphician than to see a
demo, glance nonchalantly at the part with your own graphical
creation, and discover that some programmer has screwed it all
up. No, strike that. Nothing is more frustrating for graphician
than to see a demo, look at your own little graphical creation,
and discover that the idiot was yourself.

Between the time a logo is made, and the day it is actually in-
cluded in a demo, a lot can go wrong. The programmer fucks it
up, places it in a wrong position, makes a wrong background
colour or puts some lame sprites on top of it. Whatever, it's
just so much FUN when these things happen.
This is why a good graphician also knows something about
programming. A good artist has to be able to understand and
speak the same language as the programmer. Dimensions,
colours, and background are the most common things to go
wrong. And a lot of these errors could have been avoided with
a simple know-how about programming. Also a good idea, is to
discuss the design in a part, with the programmer before ini-
tializing the work. This usually improves the design a lot.

3. REVIEWS
________
Rumours has it, that some people were upset about the ratings
COP/FACES/CHROMANCE recieved in the last edition of
PIXELS. I am sorry to say, but in my opinion, COP got what he
had earned. Nothing more and nothing less.

As a reviewer I have to look and judge for a number of things;
Style, design, colours, errors, how talented the graphics are
performed, etc. When people make a bad job, they get a low
rating. But that only makes it so much more wanted afterwards,
to get a high rating in The PULSE Magazine..

However, I am open for suggestions, critics and complaints.
Mail them to me (address coming in the end) or leave me e-mail
on one of the American boards I call to.

The reviews this month, are all from the ELYSIUM+ANTIA party
in Poland, held from the 28th to the 30th of December '93. 60
pictures participated, which must be some kind of record. But
please have in mind, that the organizers fucked the rules up,
by letting each artist compete with as many pictures as he/she
wanted to.

I'll review them artist by artist, and let it be said: I won't
review 60 pictures. The best will be rated, the rest forgotten.
(Life is a bitch!)

        The ELYSIUM+ANTIA competition results :

              1. RODER of FATUM
              2. CARRION of ELYSIUM
              3. CARRION of ELYSIUM
              4. OWEN of TRIAD

Now, the reviews;

CARRION of ELYSIUM :
Talented star on the Polish sky! He deserves his second and
third place, eventhough I find it ridiculous that people could
participate with more than one picture. His highest ranked
picture shows an interlaced train, coming straight from hell.
I generally don't like interlace, but this one is cool. His
second picture shows a couple of human-dolphins making love.
Very artistic, I just think about one thing. Did he make it
himself, or does the man own am Amiga/PC? No offence, but it
looks A LOT like the PC version!

Graphical rating : 78 %

OWEN of TRIAD
___________
I guess the TRIAD syndicate just about dominates everywhere.
But this time, I have the ability to give some critics. The
first OWN picture shows some humanoid (or similar creature),
not a lot of colours, and not a lot of style. The second
picture is better, but that is due to the interlacing. It shows
a woman riding on a dragon. I am stuffed with woman-dragon
pictures, and this one is typical for the catagory. These
pictures are in no lame, just plain and ordinary.

Graphical rating : 60 %

FAZEE of TABOO :
_____________
Talented dude, the FAZEE. But that is nothing new, I have
given him good remarks before. The first picture I will talk
about, shows a lady, with a mouth somewhat painful. See it for
yourself, it is worth it. The second picture shows some hide-
ous monster eating a meatloaf or a brain. Very excellent,
FAZEE knows what he is doing.

Graphical rating : 82 %

REBEL of AGNUS :
_____________
Nice singlecolour pictures, from the REBEL. Not much to say,
could have been better, could have been worse.

Graphical rating : 60%

SHAMAN of TABOO :
______________
The same picture as HEIN DESIGN of FOCUS participated with,
at The PARTY '93. Shows the great distance between the
Western and the Eastern scene's top-graphicians.

Graphical rating : 75 %

That concludes this months reviewed pictures. If you want to
have your pictures reviewed, send them to the address coming
later in PIXELS..

4. MINDMOVER INTERVIEWED
_____________________
Each month a qualified-, unknown- or famous artist is inter-
viewed for THE PULSE MAGAZINE.

Being a graphician is probably the most unseen aspect of the
demo-scene. We seldom see them, nor hear them. How many
talented graphicians have the time for public relations, let
it be calling out or swapping?

I would like to bring forth some of the artists that makes
demos the visual pleasure they are supposed to be, and this
will happen through interviews.

As a victim of this month, I have chosen MINDMOVER - one of
the best Danish graphicians I known of. MINDMOVER (ex.VIC)
have had an interesting career in the demo-scene. And now he
is a member of Denmarks highest ranked demo-group, which won
the big event in HERNING: CAMELOT!

[S] = SUN DANCER (Interviewer)
[M] = MINDMOVER (Victim)

[S] MINDMOVER, tell us a little about yourself. How long have
you been working in the scene as a graphician or whatever you
might feel like telling our readers.

[M] My name is THOMAS CHRISTIANSEN. I am 19 years old, and I
am also a CYBER-SCOUT. I live in a big town called HOBRO,
which lies in the center of Jutland, Denmark.

[S] What groups have you been a member of, and what groups
did you like best?

[M] LASER INC. and CAMELOT. CAMELOT, because we have a
lot of fun, and are a real cool gang. LASER weren't exactly
the best group, regarding friendship.

[S] What do you tink of the graphical sector in the scene
today? Do you think the standard is better today, than in the
past?
[M] People make the same all the time, nobody experiments
anymore. I am tired of all those pictures with nude woman.

[S] What is good graphics, and what is bad?

[M] Good graphics, is something experimenting and unusual,
everything that don't look like the standard. Bad graphics is
visually bad, and unpretty to look at. And bad graphics can
also be well done, but just too plain and ordinary.

[S] Name some of the graphicians you have most respect for..

[M] MAT, DOKK, SID, HUGH BENS, HEIN DESIGN and GOTCHA
are really my favourites.
[S] The C64 is going downhill, it is not something we can dis-
cuss - but something we have to live with. As I am in the same
PC-group as you are, it would be pointless asking you about
career plans on other machines. But how long do you think the
C64 has left?

[M] I think it has many years left. As long as people look at
demos it is alive. And as long as people look at demos, some-
body will also create new-ones. So, it will stay alive for
quite a while.

[S] If you, in 7 words, should describe yourself, what would it
be..?
[M] I can't really think of anything, without sounding too
bragging. But you can get my slogan: CONTROL THE MIND.

[S] Okay, I can't think of more stupid things to ask you about,
but do you have some last Advice/Message/Wish for our many
readers?

[M] Inactivity rules!

.. OKAY, thanks. (And hey - don't forget to MOVE the lawn)..

Please note, that you could also be one of the chosen ones,
and get interviewed for the graphical section of THE PULSE
MAGAZINE..
5. CHARTS - FAIR OR NOT?
____________________
Okay, look at this:

               1. CREEPER/ANTIC
               2. OGAMI/FAIRLIGHT
               3. ELECTRIC/EXTEND
               4. HEIN DESIGN/FOCUS
               5. JOE/ANTIC

This is what the average diskmags publish, when we talk about
graphician-charts. Is it just me, or is there something wrong
here? What the fuck is a guy like JOE/ANTIC doing in the top
5? Sure, JOE is a talented graphician, but nothing like this.
And CREEPER. No way on earth should he have the first place.

Where is SANDER/FOCUS?

There is one thing that ruins this chart, namely THE VOTERS!
Today, people vote for the products in which they see grap-
hics, not for the graphicians themselves. There is no way JOE
would ever get mixed with people like HEIN DESIGN, if it wasn't
for the productions he supports with his graphics. It isn't his
graphics people vote for, if it is, all voters must be blind.

(JOE is talented, no doubt about it - but not talented enough
for his ranking!)

If you have to vote, please vote using your brains. Here is my
version of the top 5;

                1. SANDER/FOCUS
                2. HEIN DESIGN/FOCUS
                3. MIRAGE/FOCUS
                4. OGAMI/FAIRLIGHT
                5. ELECTRIC/EXTEND

SANDER (ex. DECOY DESIGN) in the 1st position. In my opinion
probably the best graphician ever, on the C64. I was laughing
my ass off, when I (on behalf of CAMELOT) was presenting the
prizes at The PARTY '93. No prize for SANDER - I guess
people don't vote for quality, style and design anymore..
HEIN DESIGN as a clear 2nd place. The old master, comparable
to people like BOB STEVENSON, ROBERT TAN, ORC, ROBIN
LEVI and R.BESTON. HEIN DESIGN is probably the most legend-
ary graphician on the C64, because of his work done for
BLACKMAIL. Fact is, that he is one hell of a good graphician!

MIRAGE comes at the 3rd place. In my opinion he takes most
of the credits, when we talk about SHOCK becoming a legend.
The text in SHOCK was good, but thanks to the creations of
MIRAGE, SHOCK is in the mind of many sceners probably the
best diskmag ever. This is starting to look like some FOCUS
propaganda part. It is not. But it is a statement, telling us,
that the 3 best C64 graphicians are all in the dutch demo-
group FOCUS!
OGAMI as number 4. Steady and excellent graphician, bringing
pride to the FAIRLIGHT crew. He really deserves the 4th place.
Just a surprise, that OGAMI haven't been more active lately.

ELECTRIC/EXTEND as the 5th. A cool graphician, stealing the
place from people like WAVE, CREEPER and DRAGON.

Please think about what I have written here, instead of just
bragging around. Charts can be a cool thing, if they are cor-
rect. Stop voting for the wrong reasons, or for others opinion
- but vote for quality and style. After all, that is what grap-
hics is all about.

6. COMPETITION
____________
And it's competition time. This is your chance to win fame and
glory, and to get your work spread with THE PULSE MAGAZINE.
Each month this competition will take place, with a different
assignment. As this is the first time it is held, I decided to
keep it simple. Make a logo/picture/whatever, and send it to
my address (follows later). The winning graphics will be spread
world-wide with the next edition of THE PULSE MAGAZINE!

The picture may not be a fli-, nor an interlaced picture. Dim-
ensions aren't anything important, you can make a logo or you
can make a fullscreen picture - it is up to you

Special assignment

+ SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT - THE INFORMATION CHAPTER
_____________________________________________
Welcome to another edition of Special Assignment. This month
we present a special report about the Polish scene and its
history, written exclusively for us by HAIN of TALENT!

The following months, we hope to bring you more reports about
the different countries, and their backgrounds in the scene.
If you have insight on the history of YOUR country, feel free
to write us an article, we will print it if it is deep enough!

We also have another topic on the program this month. MASON
of MOTIV 8 has written a very interesting article about the
Worldwide Networks - that can be found in the end of the show!
+ "THE POLISH SCENE" article by HAIN/TALENT +
     ______________________________________
I was told to do an article about the Polish scene for Special
Assignment in THE PULSE MAGAZINE. To begin with, I would
like to tell you about the past of the demo-scene. It all began
back in about 1986 (don't know for sure) and there was only
one real Polish group called 'QUARTET' with such members like
POLONUS and SILVER DREAM. They were quite active at that
time (86 till 89) producing a lot of demos, some utilities and
games (nice version of 'CORE WARS' by POLONUS) and even
the first Polish magazine called 'KEBAB'. But why did I say
that there was only one real group? Well, you all should know
that we had no laws in Poland against piracy for quite a long
time (I mean copyrights of course) and so there were some
people 'importing' cracks, selling them to the normal users and
getting a lot of money this way. They also were organized in a
sort of group (not really though), since they could not do any-
thing besides ripping other group's intros, changing logos and
using them as their own. Typical example may be so-called WCF
which stands for 'World Cracking Federation' (funny, eh?), but
then someone called it 'Water Closet Federation'. Somehow
QUARTET didn't like WCF (guess why) and even POLONUS had
written an article about them, which was printed in MAMBA -
some of you may still remember it). Generally, the Polish scene
was very funny those days.
Later some things changed, and more groups were born - like
for example PARADOS, ASPHYXIA, CAVERN.
Anyway, I would rather not spend more time boring you with the
past, I would rather give you some facts about the scene as it
looks these days. I will round-up the important groups here:
- TABOO -
Very powerful group in my opinion, especially due to the abili-
ties of their coders. MMS and K.M. are quite capable, and the
results of their latest work, you will be able to see in the
co-op demo between ELYSIUM and TABOO, called "ALTERED
STATES" which will be released on the FAIRLIGHT party in
sweden. TABOO has kind of started to produce games lately,
and their "ORBITS" (a kind of 'QUADRANT' game, quite nice)
should be released by MARKT and TECHNIK soon. And that is
definitely not going to be the last title from them.
Also SHOGOON (their musician) does a good job. He is winning
1st-prizes on all the Polish parties lately, he also made 15 (!
tunes for "ORBITS", and has got a lot of jobs lately aswell!
- ELYSIUM -
It is quite hard to write anything about my own group - but I
will try anyway. This is also a good group, eventhough some
members seems to be quite inactive, like they used to be in the
past. BRUSH is a very talented coder, CARRION and CRUISE,
best Polish graphicians, are also quite good. CRUISE is a kind
of workoholic, and some of his latest pictures can be seen in
his third graphics-collection, which was just put out. Wait for
our demo "ALTERED STATES", it is worth the wait. As making
games in Poland is fashionable, also ELYSIUM started to do
them. We use an "ELYSIUM DEZIGN" sign to make people aware
of the quality of the game. Already two new titles are in the
making, such as "CRAZY SHOOTER" and "DRIP".
- CHARGED -
Another group with capable coders like SIR ART and DEZERT,
with graphicians like CRONOS. Their demo "CRYSTAL SHEEP 2"
won first-prize on the latest Polish party (ELYSIUM+ANTIA
party in TARNOW), and was quite good. Technically advanced,
hardly with any design, is one of the best demos released
lately. But there are still some things missing, such as the
design which should be fixed. I believe they will though, since
they announced "CRYSTAL SHEEP 3" to be trackmo-styled.
- SUN DESIGN -
A group that is not always active on a regular basis, but when
they are, they kick. Luckily they seem to be quite active now,
with a graphics-collection from their graphicians DICKENS and
LATIFAH (first in super hi-res I think) just released!
Also COMER, their main-musician, is one of the best in Poland
and also internationally. He often uses samples together with
normal music, but also his normal musics are worth checking.
I wonder why he is so low in the charts though. I think those
are the major Polish groups which should be mentioned from
here. Surely, there are other good ones, like CAUTION, VER-
MES and FATUM, but they still have to earn more credits
before they become world-famous or atleast wellknown!
Very specific thing on the Polish scene are magazines, which
are written in Polish language. There are better ones (such as
DREAM, ALWAYS, OK.OB., PRAWDA- just to name a few), worse
ones (no names though, he), and of course the best one, anti-
mag "SUNGA BUNGA" from SUNGA (hi Mrs.Anakonda and Saint
Gasmask). This one kicks, believe me.
That ought to be enough about the demo-scene. Now we turn to
the games market, which is growing fast in Poland. Major Polish
companies are L.K.AVALON, MIRAGE and TIMSOFT. They all
started some time ago, selling games for the ATARI XL/XE
(Remember that computer?). It is amazing, this computer is as
good as dead in other countries, but here in Poland, there are
still many people making games on it, and making good money
aswell! My personal opinion is that the same will happen to the
C64, since writing games has become quite a good business
lately. Furthermore, copyrights were finally set up, and that
will help. Some of you may wonder why people decide to sell
games in Poland, when they can earn more money in many other
countries. Advantage of selling games to fx. LK.AVALON is
that you just go to the company, show them your game, and if
they decide to buy it, they pay money at once. They usually
pay 6.000.000 ZL (About 300$), which is quite a good price for
someone living in Poland.
On the other hand, some games are just conversions from the
Atari, such as "CAPTAIN KLOSS" and "LORDS OF DARKNESS"
both from L.K.AVALON!
Talking about L.K.AVALON. Lately they changed their politics
about buying games. They do not buy all games anymore, just
to avoid releasing crap like "TAMER" or "MADRAX". Let us
wait and see how it'll work out, but their latest title "LORDS
OF THE DARKNESS" seemed to be quite good to me..
I cannot tell you much about either MIRAGE or TIMSOFT, since
they did not release that many games, but I think that it will
be changed in the near future.
That was about the companies releasing games, but still there
is said something about writing games. Very good example could
be ZEPHYR/ELYSIUM, who wrote such titles like "CASTLE",
"DROID" and "EOROID" (btw: his brother GHERKIN wrote "ACID
RUNNER", he is on the Amiga now though, writing games aswell)
and "LAZARUS" (soon to be released, a kind of labyrinth-
arcade game). He is working together with BENJI (a musician)
as a kind of free-lancer, doing games on his own, and then
selling them to the highest paying company.
Since I know ZEPHYR personally, I can tell you that his next
game (after releasing LAZARUS), will be a kind of race game,
similar to "SLICKS", but much more advanced. Just wait and
see, it will be worth waiting for.

Some of you may also be interested in prices for games here
in Poland. Usually it is not that expensive if you live outside
of Poland, but we have to pay 2-4$ per game (the tape with
"LORDS OF DARKNESS" costs about 3$) is not that cheap at
all. Sure, I can afford it without too many money problems (hi
BACCHUS, you know why!", but I cannot buy a game every day.
And there is also no sense in asking whether the game is full-
price or not, since it is more or less impossible to judge if
they are - get the point!?!
In the end, I would like to point out, that the rumours spread
about L.K.AVALON and MIRAGE stopping on the C64, is false.
I spoke with ZEPHYR/ELYSIUM a few days ago, and he told me
that they plan on staying because of the new copyright laws!
That is all from me, this is HAIN of TALENT signing off....

  ___________________________________________
More and more people are getting tired of the standard post-
system and people found alternative ways to get in contact
with other people faster. People could fx. use voicephone,
fax, modem etc. and a big group of people are using the net-
work systems. The most wellknown network-systems are the
InterNet and the Fido-Net.

What is Internet/Fidonet :
___________________
First of all you have some users, who's recieving or sending
mail. All the users are connected to a centre, which is con-
nected to another centre, which is connected to another
centre etc. There the users can communicate with all the net-
work users through the centre. Let's talk about my connection
to the inter-Net. I'm going to my school every day, where I'm
studying about computers. Every person on the school owns an
user-account, who's connected to the school's server. The
school is connected to two places in Denmark. At first the
school is connected to the univesity of Aarhus. The university
of Aarhus is connected to other education-centres. The other
place the school is connected to is DKUUG, who's connected to
the rest of the world.

If you are connected to Fido-Net you can only recieve or send
mail. On the inter-Net you can be connected in two ways: First
you can be connected without FTP. It means that you can only
send or recieve mail. Secondly you can be connected with FTP.
When you're FTP-connected, you can get in touch with a FTP-
site and download stuff for yourself.

Why using InterNet/FidoNet?
_____________________
Many people will ask, why get connected to InterNet/FidoNet,
when you can use a modem on a board??? Because it's much
cheaper than calling the boards. When you're writing your
message, you only have to pay when you're sending/recieving
the mail. In short, it means you're only paying, when you're
using the net, not when you're writing. So it's a cheap mailing
system and your message can be included binary-files.

Are you getting anything else???
________________________
Yes, you can be connected to the USENET-NEWS system and
get the lastest news from all over the world in all kind of sub
jects. All the users, which are connected to USENET-NEWS
can read all the posts, reply the posts, send new letters and
put up a new news-group. Here I will remind you of a very impor
tant news-group:

                                          comp.sys.cbm
                                          _________
It's a news-group about the REAL MACHINE! Of course it's the
wellknown COMMODORE 64. We try to make it to a good news-
group, join us up!!! We DO NOT want the same kids, who's using
the news-group for the Amiga and the PC, because their most
important discussion is about who has the best machine???

Now you have got a short desciption about the net-works and
now we want to hear from all the guys with a InterNet/FidoNet
adress, because we will make a list of all the COMMODORE 64
users on InterNet/FidoNet!!! Send it to us by mail or use your
your InterNet/FidoNet account and send to my InterNet point:

                               u12dec5102.aarhues.dk
                               ________________
Next time we will make a list and teach you about sending mail
between InterNet and FidoNet!!!
