NEWS JOURNAL - THE SUMMER HEADLINES
   -------------------------------------
Welcome to the news department of The PULSE, the infamous
NEWS JOURNAL. This month we have decided to make a few
changes in our system, simply due to the huge amount of
news, rumours and facts we managed to get a hold of.

Therefore we have devided NEWS JOURNAL in 4 different
section, which goes in the following order :

THE HEADLINES, THE US NEWS, WORDWIDE NEWS UPDATE
and closing NEWS JOURNAL with a list of DID YOU KNOWS.

Make sure to send us the news, reports and statements from
your group before the 25th of each month, to:

All news and reports within NEWS JOURNAL was gathered by
CROSSFIRE, DUKE and SPLATTERHEAD. NEWS JOURNAL is
as always edited and hosted by General Editor, DUKE!
* ALPHA FLIGHT took on the great summer heat by going
through an overwhelming amount of changes within the group.
To begin the roundup, SPECTATOR/XENON left AFL as his
second group and purchased a modem, while ANIMAL was
kicked out. RRR made an official decision to leave AFL and
stick with OXYRON on the 64. This was due to the fact that he
is getting more into the 16-bit market with OXYRON, but he
explains to NEWS JOURNAL, that he is still going to keep
supporting ALPHA FLIGHT, and is equally interested in
seeing them reach success. It was not all bad news from the
flight though, as CENTAURION/CHARGED and REAM/ex.
ACCUSE (known as a former HOTLINE member) joined up with
AFL as crackers. AFL also recruited STARKILLER and
AGRESSOR from PADUA, although it is still unknown whether
STARKILLER's board COLD FUSION will become an official
AFL board. On top of that, HAWK/ex.PRESENCE and LEADER
(former HYSTERIC) joined up with AFL as coders. Two familiar
AFL names returned to the flight as well, as SECRET MAN,
who recently left the scene to join the PC scene, returned to
ALPHA FLIGHT, as well as LEEWAY who returned after a
break. AFL was also busy making changes overseas, as they
took on the old ARCADE-board HOLIDAY INN CAMBODIA after
it had been independant for somewhat 1,5 years. As a reaction
to this, they dropped their old HQ, THE EVIL ISLAND.
Meanwhile back in Europe, AFL gained the European board -
ESCAPADE, sysoped by IRON/ex.EXCESS, who joined AFL and
changed his handle into XENOX. Apparently this brought a lot
of disturbance in the areas of EXCESS, since XENOX infact
never bothered to call and inform them about the change. But
they found out about it when they called the board. To wrap
a very busy and hectic ALPHA FLIGHT summer, we present you
with the new and official memberstatus : MAX, MURPHY, STYX,
ANCIENT MARINER, STASH, HONESTY, SKID ROW, AGRESSOR,
STARKILLER, SECRET MAN, LEEWAY, XENOX, CENTAURION,
REAM, HAWK, LEADER and SUPREME.

* ATLANTIS returned to the spotlight after a rather inactive
period, by signing on TROOPER/ex.TRC to the group, while
TROOPER also joined up with AGONY as his second group.
TROOPER could also announce an exciting merger between his
magazine METAMORPHOSIS and the Hungarian magazine
produced by EXILE, WIDOBET. The name of the new magazine
is still unknown though. ATLANTIS could also announce the
taking of the American board FORTRESS OF DOOM (sysoped
by NOMAD/ex.RAD), which was the former HQ of the American
group RAD.

* AVANTGARDE used the summer to announce the return of
the old DOMINATORS-board DREAM PARK. Well, by name
atleast. According to the sysop ODDYSSEUS/AVT, he had
the permission of the old DOM-sysop CYBORG to run his
system. But observing the board more closely, it was obvious
to us how it was the former AVANTGARDE-board CHAOTIC
FACTOR. Shortly after this report was written, ODDYSSEUS
was booted from AVANTGARDE. A disappointed ODDYSSEUS
told NEWS JOURNAL "I would like to say, that having AVT
dumb me because of my absence from the scene is very un-
justifyed and not really fair..". You will be able to read a
more detailed report about DREAM PARK and ODDYSSEUS in
the BOARD REPORT. Other things happened in AVANTGARDE
during the summer, as DAVE could announce he was quitting
the scene. Dispite of an official promise of quitting the
scene, RICHIE/AVT started calling out again. But according
to FREESTYLE/AVT "RICHIE is not really back, but he will
just call FORUM once in a while". Looking at other peoples'
activity level, that almost sounds like a full comeback!?!.

* The demo-group CADGERS is dead. The most famous member,
CLARENCE, built up a new group called CHORUS. According to
the people who already had a sneak-preview of their upcoming
demo, this group could become a major name in the near future.
Meanwhile, VOLUNTEER left BRONX to join up with CHORUS.
* CHROMANCE was able to support a confusing story this
month, when they declared that their Polish section, consis-
ting of WOZIO, DRUID, SAILOR and TITANIC, was infact real
members of CHROMANCE, and not on trial as we stated earlier.
The strange thing about this though, is that ALPHA FLIGHT
still claim the four Polish sceners as members. Hopefully the
people in question will settle this confusion in the near
future, please. One thing was for certain though, LORD
CRUCIFIER/CHROMANCE left the scene. According to LORD
CRUCIFIER, he had reached all the goals that he ever wanted
to reach in the scene, and therefore he decided to leave it.
CHROMANCE was also part of the great invasion in the US
this summer, claiming two boards. One of them was the former
SCS-board, EDGE OF MIDNIGHT. The board got heavily modded
and is now running on a Cyborg Modded C*Base with Ramlink
and HD. The sysop RUG RAT, decided to join up with
CHROMANCE as well. The other board CHROMANCE claimed,
was the former ALPHA FLIGHT board, THE EVIL ISLAND, while
the sysop, ANCIENT MARINER also joined up with (C).
THE EVIL ISLAND was momentarily later taken on by the
steady growing THE PULSE MAGAZINE to operate as its WHQ.

               Much more to come ----

* EXCESS was also among the groups showing an interest to
broaded its horizon. To begin with, EXCESS took on the US
board DEADZONE (former X-RATED board), as their new WHQ.
Due to this, MIDFIT and NEW DESIGN left X-RATED to join
EXCESS, while X-RATED seems to be dead again. Following
that, AUTHENTIC/MANIAX and LIQUID/ex.TROPIC joined up
with EXCESS. As DR.KAOS/EXCESS was forced into leaving
his 2nd group REFLEX, he instead left EXCESS in protest to
join AGONY. VENICE rejoined EXCESS, but was kicked out
along with PNEUMATIC because of laziness.

* STORMRIDER/F4CG, the sysop of the F4CG HQ TUNNEL OF
WARES, quitted the scene. ZIRCO, who had just joined up with
CHROMANCE, was a close friend of STORMRIDER, and so he
joined up with F4CG to re-open TUNNEL OF WARES, and all
that happened was that the board changed sysop and number.
Whether or not the board is still also HQ for 20CC is unknown,
but F4CG remains. Call the new TUNNEL OF WARES on
718-633-0647 (BROOKLYN, NY). It runs UCBBS and everybody
has to create a new account since the old userlog from the
Cyborg Modded C*Base was not competible with the one in
UCBBS. The board has 40 megs online, and is only waiting for
users to rape it.

* FAIRLIGHT is back in the spotlight once again after a long
and probably also needed summer break. They hit back by
releasing the ninth edition of REFORMATION, which clearly
shows they are serious about rocking the current number one
in the magazine industry, THE PULSE MAGAZINE. The Swedish
FAIRLIGHT board and REFORMATION HQ, WARES AQUARION,
will change number from August 1st, 1994, due to the sysop
SLEDGE/FLT moving to Stockholm. The new number will be
+XX-X-XXXXXX. Meanwhile, FAIRLIGHT added to their long list
of excellent boards the Australian FISHBOWL, sysoped by
HIGHLANDER who also joined FAIRLIGHT, only on trial for the
time being though. Apparently FISHBOWL is on a PC, running
on a system called 64NET, which is able to communicate
between the PC and the C64. Back in Sweden OXIDY left FLT
to join up with the demo rivals WRATH DESIGNS, while TRON
had to join the army, but is seems he will try to figure out a
way to get out of it. Due to all these changes, the FAIRLIGHT
memberstatus looks as follows : AVALON, BACCHUS, DINO,
ENDURO, GERWIN, GRAYHAWK, HARLEKIN, LEXI, OGAMI,
RED DEVIL, ROWDY, SLEDGE, SPIROU, TABASCO, TRON, VDK,
WATCHMAN and HIGHLANDER on trial.

* After a very long period of complete inactivity from the most
of GENESIS PROJECT, they look to be very active in the near
future. Firstly a bit of unfortunate news, as MOTLEY/G*P
went on trial for AT&T and Swedish Telecom. The verdict was
quilty, and MOTLEY was left with 3 years on parole, and a fee
of $3000. (Better than the $30.000 they originally wanted).
MOTLEY is still active though. GENESIS PROJECT was not all
bad news this summer, as they were able to announce the plans
to hold a C64 only PARTY in Gothenburg, Sweden this very
November. We will of course give you a sneak preview of the
invitation, as a first to GLOBAL REPORT in this edition.
GENESIS PROJECT is also working at other major projects
at the moment, as they are trying to built up the once great
demo-section once again. SES will be one of the dominating
names, while people like HCL/CENSOR, ICON and HOUBBA of
VISION and others are at the works. Also SCOPE, talented
graphician, is working on a project, this one a slideshow to
be released early September. On the board-front, G*P could
announce that two boards were currently in the midst of
being set up. One of them seems very promising, WILDBILL
(former G*P member) who had a board for G*P+CRAZY ages
ago, will return to the scene very soon. One Swedish board
is under consideration as well. In closing, G*P kicked out
AIRWOLF because of laziness. He is rumoured to have joined
up with the group PLAYER.
* MOTIV 8 was able to declare a number of changes within the
group, as they signed on NATAS/ex.CODERZ/AFL to the
group. NATAS also formed his own fixing-group named ARIS-
TOCRACY, but he will remain a member of MOTIV 8 sideways,
and like all other NTSC-fixers in M8 who is also in other
groups, he will fix M8's wares, and other groups' wares for
ARISTOCRACY. In addition to that, MOTIV 8 recruited the
former leader of BRONX, BIRD. His Danish board ELMSTREET
was closed down, and according to BIRD, the board was slowing
down a lot the last days, so he got fed up running it. Due to
BIRD leaving BRONX, it is now dead. Furthermore CURLIN
returned to the scene and figures once again in the member-
status of both MOTIV 8 and his former fixing-group BYRONIC.
SUN DANCER was kicked out of MOTIV 8 because of internal
problems, easier described as arguements with one of the
leading figures of the group, CROSSFIRE. Due to this, M8 is
searching for a new graphician. Look in THE BLACKBOARD for
the address to send to.

* ATTRACTION/PANDORA finally made it official that he
stopped calling out, although nobody has seen him on any
board for the last 9 months. During this, SKY left PANDORA
and the scene as well, in order to marry his bride to be.
CHOTAIRE/PANDORA moved to Chile, but is still active though
and has started calling out again.
* REGINA signed on HEAVYHEAD/TRIAD to the group, who
brought along his new board, WESTPOINT, which will be the
new REGINA WHQ. You will be able to call it at +45-7526-9686.
Plans are to run it on UCBBS in the near future, but it may
stick with C*Base. DR.ZIVAGO is currently taking a much
needed vacation from the 64 scene. He first announced he
was planning to leave the scene, but settled with a vacation
instead. The updated REGINA memberstatus goes as follows:
DUKE, DR.ZIVAGO, KBS, SHARK, STEVE, MERCURY and
HEAVYHEAD.

* The ruling co-operation SCS+TRC was extremely busy on
the board-front this summer, and after a lot of disturbance
on REBELLION, the sysop WHITE LIGHTNING kicked SCS+TRC
off the board. The board was PSI WHQ for a short while, and
a deal to become WHQ for THE PULSE MAGAZINE messed up.
He decided to take back SCS+TRC, and joined up with them
as well. The last thing to occour on REBELLION, was that it
turned private, while 40 users were waxed. For access to this
board, you would need to leave access to WHITE LIGHTNING
on any of the regular boards of which he calls. REBELLION
also took on the Australian magazine VANDALISM NEWS,
which is now released under the SCS+TRC flag. Another
addtion was to be made to the co-op. After his board, THE
DUNGEON, turned down GENESIS PROJECT and took on ...
... SCS+TRC instead, the sysop THE ALCHEMIST, joined up
with SCS+TRC and thereby left G*P behind. He still remains
in DEMONIX as well, and his board also remains HQ for both
PROPAGANDA and DEMONIX, and of course SCS+TRC. STEVE
moved away to a new place in the UK, and took along his board
with him. The new number of the board is not official as of
yet. Also CBA moved, to a town called HOORN in Holland.
The current memberstatus of the co-operation goes like this:
SUCCESS - NIGHTSHADE, BURGLAR, MOREN, MICRON, RAP,
GUZZLER, ARROGANCE, HI-LITE, RAZE, B-WYZE, SHOCKER,
DANNIE, MR.DISK, CREDO, MISTRI, STEVE, VENGEANCE,
MORBID, ALCHEMIST and WHITE LIGHTNING.
TRC - ACTION JACKSON, CBA, TRAX, ZAR, CAVRON, JITY,
JRC, REPLAY, CASE and CRUZE.

* The co-operation between TRSI+DYTEC is not over, unlike
what the NITRO wrote. It was posted by OB (LAZINESS)/TRSI,
and therefore he was said to have been kicked out of the
group. This was not true though, according to MIDFIT.
Meanwhile the co-operation started recruiting members, and
signed on STONE, who was kicked out of TALENT due to
incompetence and laziness (according to TALENT). MWS
(MARKUS WIEDERSTEIN) returned to the scene, and joined
up with his friends in TRSI+DYTEC. SANITY/ex.FATUM joined
TRSI+DYTEC as a cracker and original supplier. In addition...
... to that, AWA/TSR joined in as a graphician and swapper,
while also renaming into ROOSTER. In closing, UNDERDOG of
ATLANTIS joined up with the co-operation. We must conclude
from the events that happened through the summer, that this
co-operation, is most definitely far from dead.

THE US SCENE
-----------
* The once so active American fixing-group TSM is back in
business. They already put out a lot of fixes this summer.
Also the Canadians in EMPIRE shall return sooner or later
in full effect. Their recent comeback somehow failed though,
because they released a fix of F4CG's "LINGOS" which was
fixed by CHROMANCE a week earlier.

* LION/CHROMANCE joined up with the American fixing-group
PSI as his second group, here he will be doing all of his
fixing from now on.

* PSI changed their name from the original being PHUN SOFT
INCORPORATED into PHUCKIN' STONED IMPORTERS, which
really goes against their pleed to be taken more serious as a
fixing-group. During this, they got themselves yet ANOTHER
NTSC-fixer, by the name of THE STABALIZER.
                                      -----
¤ WORLDWIDE NEWS UPDATE ¤
------------------------
* CREATURES is dead. ROMULUS left the scene after
releasing a noter with proportional chars.

* CROSSBOW and VISION of CREST are set to re-enter the
scene very soon. According to CREST they were never gone,
but one thing is for sure, they have been away for quite a
while since their last production.

* A new software company was formed in Australia called
BAD BYTES. Their first production was MISFORTUNE, a
remarkable jump'n'run game, more to come is promised.

* ABLAZE left PADUA, while ANONYM started calling out
again.

* After a long period of being groupless, SAT/ex.MECHANIX
decided to join forces with his friends in CAMELOT.

* The old English group FUSION has been rebuilt, but it is,
sadly like most of the rebuilt groups these days, a fake.
Members are TUC/REBELS and MEGABYTE/BBC.

                                     -----
* ICE BREAKER/ex.DWI (the sysop of the old EPIC-board
PARTICLES), started calling out again regulary to most of
the biggest boards.

* DIVINE ULTIMATUM, the old SCS+TRC, G*P, DOMINATORS,
20CC (etc.) board might be back, atleast the sysop,
CHAMELEON, is talking about putting it back up.

* NIRVANA is back in business. The only two members RED
BULL and FLYING HORSE, are said to be cover-up names for
CAVRON and X-RADICAL. Some people claimed the only reason
they built NIRVANA, was to release games which their original
groups had denied. Their first release was HELL FIGHTER,
which was coded by X-RADICAL of CHROMANCE and fixed by
CHROMANCE.

* The updated TALENT memberstatus: BOD, MAJESTY,
CHRYSAGON, COUNT ZERO, ROCKSTAR, TBB, IGNORANCE,
SORCERER, GREENFROG, MORRISEY and NIGHTWRITER.

* SHADES and GRIME both left SCS+TRC in order to reform
their previews group SHAZAM. Members at this point should
be : GRIZE, SHADES, INSANE, GOP, THORIN, THRAIN, SLICE,
ACOLYTE and JIM MORRISON.

* PEACEMAKER/MOTIV 8 started a new H/P-group with some
local hacker-friends (amongst them a guy called LAWNMOWER
MAN from the Amiga). The group is called THA PHREAKAZ.
PEACEMAKER still remains in both MOTIV 8 and his fixing-
group BYRONIC at the same time.

* SAVALAS/ex.AFL renamed into MOWER and joined the
rebuilt forces of TRANCE.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
DID YOU KNOW,
-----------
* DEFF/AVT claims, that one of the latest AVANTGARDE
releases (a game named DOUBLE TROUBLE) is a fake release,
and infact a RE-release. According to him, some lamer should
have created a fake-account for TRICOM/AVT on DOWN BY
LAW and uploaded it there for AVANTGARDE to have -5 pts
in the next release chart. MR.WAX told around, that HE had
uploaded it, and ANCIENT MARINER/CHROMANCE could not
help thinking back at some fake-releases for AFL, that
CHROMANCE was also said to be responsible for a few months
back - Makes you think, doesn't it?

* RADAR (former member of ARCADE on the 64, and now a
member of THE DOMINATORS on the PC) was seen calling the
US boards.
* Rumours has it, that third party-billing via MCI is dead now.
Some rumours even says, that the final blow was infact
performed by PEACEMAKER and CROSSFIRE of MOTIV 8,
abusing the system to an extend it could not handle.

* According to HOMEBOY/CHROMANCE, PSI is now trading
exclusive with CHROMANCE. But talking to WHITE LIGHTNING
of PSI, we realised that PSI also trades with other groups
besides CHROMANCE - SO much for exclusive trading!

* Rumours has it, that TRICOM/AVT is infact one of those
people at the game company TWICE EFFECT, either SOEREN
KRESS or JIM NOWAK, still pretty unsure though. But it
would explain all the sneak-previews they have been getting
from them. The rumours is mainly based on the intros TRICOM
makes for ACT, that all has an enourmous similarity to TWICE
EFFECT-style over them. Compared with the fact that AVT
gets previews of all their games.

* OLAV MORKRID/PANORAMIC and GEIR TJELTA/MOZ(IC)ART
are working on the SUPERNINTENDO, producing games.

* The Norwegian music group BLUES MUZ' is working on games
music at the moment.

* SHAPE is rumoured to be releasing a brand new demo some
time this year. This is some kind of major event, considering
this is their first real demo for 4 years.

* HERO/ex.ILLUSION won $4000 at a Norwegian lottery, and
is now planning a trip to Houston to visit LUCIFER/CODERZ,
GREGO/M8, SUSIEUZI and BRETT who are all old ILLUSION
friends of his living in Houston, USA.

* The co-sysop of DOWN BY LAW, BOD/TALENT, decided to
ban all fake-label wares from the board. It was according to
him ESPECIALLY going out to M8's label THE BINGO TEAM
and AVANTGARDE's label RIFF RAFF, because these two
fake-labels are the most releasing ones, BOTH of them
uploading heaps of fake-label wares at times.

* ELYSIUM is said to be releasing their co-op demo with
TABOO in the very near future. The same goes with the new
CAMELOT demo, CAMEL PARK, which is schedualed to be
released at the ASSEMBLY party in August.

* A rumour is spreading around that the old and legendary
Finnish leaders FINNISH GOLD will return to the scene.

THE SUMMER RELEASES - THE RELEASE CHARTS
   -----------------------------------------
Another edition of your favourite magazine, will be going up
the drives in a couple of days, and your (hopefully) favourite
editor is taking a look back on the releases that hit the US
boards in the last two months, June and July 1994.

Overall I would say the mount of games being released these
days is still quite well for this machine. Infact, there is
still more titles released than on the amiga. Hehe!

On the other hand, the quality lowered a lot. This is actually
he first time I had to give less than 1 point for a game which
was supposingly a full game (BALL LAND 2)..

Taking a look at the Americans, it seems they have had their
winter-sleep, and are back fully rested to provide us with
something once again.

Now let us go again. Not for the last time, though!

THE AMERICAN SCENE
----------------
THE SHAOLIN TEMPLE (TSM) is back once again. This time
actually providing us with an amazing 5 fixed games.
They are still on old standards though, but with reliable
fixes nobody can complain about. Let us just hope it is not
just for a short time period, as they really kicked this time.

PSI started releasing again as well. They release three games,
but they burnt their fingers on a release by AVANTGARDE.
Momentarily after the PAL version was released, AVT made an
official statement that the release was not made by them,
but was infact a fake release. A lot of strange things appear
to be going on about that game as well. Due to the fact that
DOUBLE TROUBLE was released a while back by EMPIRE+DOM,
although the PSI version actually contained new levels, the
release was ignored!

PUDWERX still does his bests to supply AVANTGARDE with the
neccessary points to keep going, and is doing a good job of
it as well.

TERMINAL OBSESSION appears to be down, and rumours are
saying the board will not go up again. Let us hope it will
though, and that FORUM will get better lines (HINT).
ALPHA FLIGHT (Ger, HOL, USA, etc.) (7.Rank/5.7 Points)
---------------------------------------------
ALPHA FLIGHT had an easy going summer. Starting off with
the whole 64'er disk, they released BOUNCY CARS (-),
a 5Kbyte game, and also put out IMPERIOD PRV. (0.2). Later
on followed HEAVENBOUND prv. (-), of which CHROMANCE
already put out a playable version. The AFL preview features
a CD intro though. Following this, LEMON BLIES (4.4), was
released by them, already running PAL/NTSC. An average
preview from LK AVALON called NOCTURNO (0.6) managed to
find the way to the boards, and in the very last seconds came
SWIRL prv. (0.5), unplayable, managed it as well.

So it appears the last months number one did not manage to
keep their standard. Maybe it was a little too hot over there!

                More to come ----

AVANTGARDE (Ger, UK, USA, etc.) (1.Rank/35.9 Points)
---------------------------------------------
Another very strong attack by the united forces of AVT.
The easy-to-do record of the year, I guess!
Starting off with SNAKE ATTACK (4.3) fixed by BYRONIC, they
kicked LATENT FUSION (4.8) and the brilliant HARDFIRE prv.
(0.9) on the market. CP VERLAG released their wares, and so
so did AVT. PUSH IT (5.4) was their next strike, followed by
DEFF's holidays and TITBIT 2 (5.3) by TWICE EFFECT.
Meanwhile they put out a 101% version of BOBIX, not to gain
points, but to do a good version (HOK back in business, hehe).
Along with EXCESS they put out NOVA 2 (1.9), whereas they
share the points. Yet another English puzzle game called
SQUARE SCAPE (4.3) found its way out of their hands.
Later on EXCESS and AVT put out another one named
ORACLE 2 (2.3), sharing the poins again.
The excessive stuff found its end with the release of
KITRON prv. (0.6) and REAXION (4.7), another puzzler.
Finally two English previews, namely PENGUIN TOWER prv (0.7)
and CITY BOMBER prv (0.7) was released!

A very good summer for AVANTGARDE on the wares front!

CHROMANCE (HUN, Pol, USA, etc.) (3.Rank/19.3 Points)
---------------------------------------------
"When everybody expected us burning in hell, we are back".
(Quote: MR.WAX/sligtly changed) - and perfectly fitting!
The rather good time they had was mainly caused by
UNDER THE GROUND (4.2), fixed by [C] and the fixed
version of KILLING FIELDS (3.4), done by PSI after the PAL
version. The trouble this time was caused by the re-release of
DEEP IN SPACE prv (-5) and a rather bad version of
QUIZ SHOW (4.3), which includes a couple of mistakes on the
translation side.
MILLMANIA (3.5) from CP VERLAG was also fixed later on by
PSI. Having all this stuff around, also PUZZLACKI (3.7) found
its way to the drives, along with a fix-file (-1). Another bad
translation got through their packers, namely WHEEL OF
FORTUNE (4.3) by MAREX/VERMES. On this one I would rather
like to know why X and Q are no letters in this game. Strange!

Finally last editions mistake (hope it won't happen again) got
added, namely LOGIC prv. (0.4) and XE-TRON prv. (0.5).
This does not change the ranking though ...

EXCESS (Ger, Hol, etc.) (10.Rank/4.2 Points)
---------------------------------------------
Their cooperation releases with AVANTGARDE made them the
9th rank. ORACLE 2 (2.3) and NOVA 2 (1.9) made them summon
in the charts.

F4CG (Bel, Pol, USA, etc.) (4.Rank/10.4 Points)
---------------------------------------------
Quite early they release two neat little Polish wares called
ARCTIC HUNT (5.1) and LAZARUS (5.3) from TIM SOFT.
On ARCTIC HUNT I actually thought about a (-1), but did not
do it. Please notice that on stuff like this EVERYTHING
should be translated. It is actually a pretty good game, and
a totally translated version would make it even better.
Both games were fixed by TSM, not to forget!

LEGEND (Ger, Bel, USA, etc.) (8.Rank/5.3 Points)
---------------------------------------------
They managed to break into the monopoly of AVT by releasing
a TWICE EFFECT game called FIREFOX (5.3), fixed by TSM.
Let us see if there is more to come from this source!

MOTIV8 (Den, Ger, etc.) (2.Rank/19.6 Points)
---------------------------------------------
Looks like we got another group of people not being brown
after the summer, as they were very busy in releasing games.
The first one was the preview of PROTOTYPE (0.4) followed
by the re-release of RACING MANAGER (-5).
Apparently the release of METEOR prv. (0.3) and the final
version of METEOR (4.2) has something to do with eachother,
as the releases were made in a couple of days. Tst, tst..
The worst game this month followed ... BALL LAND 2 (3.9)
hunted by ORB (4.1) and MOVE THE STONES (-), due to it
being a BASIC game. The following releases might cause some
trouble, but they got the points for ADDGAR (5.1) from
CP VERLAG, due to the time between their fixed version
(upped to TST only) and the TRC+SCS version. ADDGAR was
fixed by TSM and released on the 9th of July.
Just in time, they managed to reach the 2nd rank by putting
out a puzzle game called COMPARE (4.4) and
SPACE SHOOTOUT (4.2), something not worth leeching.

PALACE (Fin) (No Rank/-6.2 Points)
---------------------------------------------
The absolute worst. Trying to impress us with a re-release of
LEMON BLUES (-5), released by AFL earlier and
SNAKE ATTACK (-5) by AVT fixed earlier as well, they failed.
Not to put them down the drain, I gave them the points for the
complete PAL version of ENZYME (3.8). Another fixed version
will not be counted, though.

TALENT (Ger, UK, Fin, USA) (9.Rank/4.5 Points)
---------------------------------------------
SHOGUN (4.2) was recently put out by them as the only Budget
this month. A fixfile was needed, as the intro fucked up on
NTSC.
Later on the BAM-ZIPPER (-) hit the drives. (Use it, it is
AMAZING, I wrote it ... :) ).
DEFF/AVT said: "They raped a demo-part!!!" - And I agree!
MOTLEY TETRIS PRV (0.3) is well coded and designed, but
unplayable (and if the game gets out, about to be unfixable).

TRC+SCS (HOL, Ger, USA, etc.) (5.Rank/8.5 Points)
---------------------------------------------
A bad time they had, spending most of it on the beach I guess.
But still managing to put out something, they got my respect.
BAK PAKKER prv (0.5), whereas everybody shouting out
it is a re-release. Closer looks have shown it was just
bigmouth time. PUZZLE MANIA (4.9) and WIZLAND (2.5) were
their full games, the last one mentioned, still on PAL.
The absolutely LAME act was the rape of LASER DUEL
prv (0.6) not for it being total waste, but for actually
taking a game which was uploaded by the coder on the
boards and kick it off.
To explain the story: MOLOCH/ex-ARMAGEDDON upped his
prv. of the game to a board, namely TOW, with a little screen
telling the dudes around to contact him, as he still needs
graphicians. VENGEANCE/TRC+SCS took the prv., removed
the screen and kicked it out as a release.
I guess if BURGLAR and CBA would have called out, they
would have prevented it from happening, but bad luck.
BOOOOOOOOOOOH to VENGEANCE!!
Finally a ZIP/UNZIP tool collection was released, whereas
STEVE/TRC+SCS did not really wanted to do so, as it did
not feature anything new.

TRSI + DYTEC (Ger) (6.Rank/8.3 Points)
---------------------------------------------
Their best month so far started with COSMOX prv (0.7), later
on followed by MARKT & TECHNIK's CHEEKY TWINS II Pal (2.9).
Finally COSMOX (4.7) from COSMOS DESIGNS was put on the
line right after the Pal release.
On this one TALENT did the fixing though.

That is about it so far. Let us get a hold of something new :

WORST game this summer : BALL LAND 2 released by M8

BEST Game this summer : COSMOX released by TRSI+DYTEC

And now it is time for us to take a look at the summer charts!

The actual Quality and Release charts on the Fixing groups
are a little *faked* due to me making a mistake on the
CHROMANCE release of REFLEX 2 (!) months back.
Otherwise PSI and TALENT would have been ranked higher!!

Sorry for that. It is a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it!

SATIRICA - THE AUTOPSY OF THE SCENE
     -----------------------------------
Now that you have joined us, we can get ready for another
edition of the worst pyle of shit written since the time JESUS
sat down with a couple of bankers and financed his new book.

You have entered the domains of SATIRICA, the place where
anything can happen - and do happen. This is where we have
no restraints, but a vivid imagination. This is satire that
bites hard, put together by General Editor, DUKE.

IMPORTANT STATEMENT:
Due to the overwhelming success of SATIRICA, a lot of other
magazines has started doing a satiric chapter of their own.
We would like to encourage the readers to avoid these sorry
magazines though, as their satiric chapters are based on this
chapter - idea and state of mind. Remember, SATIRICA is the
ORIGINAL satiric chapter in the scene!

The stories included in SATIRICA are pure fiction and based
on a satiric state of mind. SATIRICA was not written to offend
any of you, but to pass on a smile in these trying times. Most
of what is written in SATIRICA is based on actual news, then
turned around 180 degrees to put together a totally crazy and
obscure story. I hope you like it!
* OXYRON is back in the spotlight with a brand new demo, this
one of course COMA LIGHT 2007. Members of OXYRON told a
local newspaper GESPRACHEN GERMAN FARTMUT how they
all had the computer-fever. TTS explained how he woke up all
sweaty, whereafter he went crazy and coded 7 demos on 9
different computers (?). He doesn't remember anything about
coding the demos, but he remember waking up feeling GREAT.
A famous Polish doctor explains how this behaviour could be
described as the notorious warewolf-syndrom, only they don't
actually turn into a warewolf, ehrm. Other members of OXYRON
has experienced the same thing, such as RRR who woke up one
day having written three 100 blocks notes to his contacts.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
* BOD is once again back with a brand new book, this one
called "Scratch new-year, I am trying to sleep". He explains
to ABNORMAL-LIFE-FORM how he has difficulties sleeping
every new-year. "Oye, I need my rest when I have to call 200
boards a day, the same goes for new years night". BOD is
starting early collecting signatures to erase next new-years
international celebration. Already a lot of people voted, such
as RICHIE, POWERPLANT and WESTBAM. BOD feels confident
he will win this issue, expressing his confusing attitude
towards the fact that people makes so much noise on new-
years night. The last comment from BOD was "People should
find better things to do".
* RICHIE has been spotted calling the boards again. He told
a good friend of his, how he only pretended he was going to
leave the scene to get presents from his friends. Now he is
back calling out, and everybody is annoyed with him. RICHIE
told another story to MAN AND ROOF though, where he
explained how he had to leave the scene because he wasn't
spending enough time with his roof. "I was calling out a lot,
and therefore I had to stay inside the house". RICHIE claimed
he missed his roof so much he decided to quit the scene. But
apparently RICHIE has been away from his roof for so long,
it has stopped talking to him.

* The infamous (for all the wrong reasons) phreaker RADAR
was spotted calling an American board last week. The sysop
claimed RADAR was given tips about JAZZCAT calling out
giving free advice on problems when having sex with animals.
RADAR however, was very disappointed when JAZZCAT did
not know anything about having sex with ants. RADAR said
in a sad tone "Maybe I should try and call ANTic SEXUAL".
JAZZCAT was appalled by RADAR's sexual preferences,
"RADAR should stick with dingos, anything else would seem
unnatural and strange".

about who is the current owners of a Polish 4-pack with
fresh sceners. CHROMANCE claim they bought them from a
Dutch merchant, while ALPHA FLIGHT claims they won them

the full claim to the 4-pack, but will be battling over the
rights infront of an international jury consisting of two
blind black men!

* JAZZCAT/LEGEND is at it again. This time he signed an
exclusive contract with DINGO LIFE FORM, being the brand
new editor of THE DINGO CORNER. JAZZCAT explained in a
self-edited interview in his new section, how he was going to
help readers get their Dingos in the right mood for sex. He
can only speak for himself though, but the whole world has
learned to know him as a man who knows what he is talking
about, having had sex with almost every Dingo in existance
(and their twin-sisters). CROSSFIRE explained to DINGO LIFE
FORM, how he was having problems getting a date lately -
"Maybe I am not attractive enough for Dingos?). JAZZCAT
answered in a calm tone "Some have it, some don't".

      SUPREME-SKINHEAD RETURNS - ISSUE # 4
     ------------------------------------
Welcome back to another humorous episode with fun and
hideous laughter in the name of the TWIN HEADS. This edition
was brought to you by THE WIG AND SHAVING-GELLO CO.

We join HARTMUT outside the BALLED'R'US store when he
was just about to scrape the SCRAPE AND WIN plate..

"Aha, so this is where you are hidding" shouted someone from
down the street. "Oh no, I am dead meat, It's RAY JOKES and
ROB, the cameraman (from CAMELOT) - the people from the
MTV show MOST HAUNTED" shouted HARTMUT. (He said all
that in a panic situation? ed.). HARTMUT went in complete
panic alright, as he stumbled his ways down the street trying
not to drop the valuable SCRAPE AND WIN plate. With luck,
HARTMUT managed to get home and closed the door with a
huge SLAAAM. "What the fuck are you doing you stupid
skinhead?" shouted JOCHEN, while aiming for HARTMUT with
a pointed dart. "It was that horrible RAY JOKES, and he was
wearing a toupe!!" said HARTMUT in a shaky tone. "Oh my god,
what have you done you ignorant bastard. What will we do if
ROB filmed you, everyone at the SINGLE MEN OF THE 90's
club will know you forgot to shave!!". "I know, it's terrible,
what can I do" cried HARTMUT beating his head into the wall.
"Well, we better turn on MTV and face the facts HARTMUT"
said JOCHEN, and turned on the tv with a 10 foot stick.

WELCOME TO MOST HAUNTED, WITH YOUR HOST RAY JOKES!

Welcome everyone, we have shocking pictures for you to see
tonight. Me and ROB, stop playing with your thumb idiot, was
in Germany, undercover, to take film of what sadly could be
the skinheads of the future.

This film shows an unshaved skinhead knocking off an old
hairy man's hat as he is trying to make a run for it. SHOCKING
PICTURES, notice how he forgot to shave! Well, thanks for
watching, stay safe, bye!

"Oooohhh myyy skiiinhheeeaadd, I am doomed" cried HARTMUT
while JOCHEN was busy trying to find his best bat. "Well, I
certainly hope you will take this as a valuable lesson you
stupid skinhead. NEVER leave without shaving!" shouted
JOCHEN while beating HARTMUT with his bat. Then suddenly
someone knocked on the door. HARTMUT hurried under the
bed, crying "THEY'RE HERE!!!".

- TO BE CONTINUED.. (Can you stand the excitement?)

* BACCHUS/FAIRLIGHT, who was married earlier this year,
is to become a dad in the near future. A proud BACCHUS
explained to Swedish national television, how he was planning
on introducing his child how to crack and call boards - but
most importantly how to read Satirica at the age of 2 weeks.
A few may think he is being a little too optimistic about his
plans to teach his child all that, but BACCHUS explained how
he felt it was important to start his child off early, and he
was also looking for an easy replacement for ENDURO who
is currently messing up REFORMATION for FAIRLIGHT. I hate
him, he is terrible, I have knightmares about his work for
REFORMATION said a desperate BACCHUS in front of million
of viewers in Sweden.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
* SOLAR signed a 4-year contract with the Italian football
champions AC MILAN last month, and was said to be the big
replacement of MARCO VAN BASTEN. SOLAR did not do as
well as some predicted though, scoring 17 own goals in the
first half, whereafter he was sent off for making chicken-
noises at the referee. A happy SOLAR explained to the
biggest Italian magazine FORZA SUCKER, how he was still
not quite sure how the game was to be played, but he was
sure he would get the hang of it soon, if only someone would
be so kind as to explain him the rules. In closing he said -
"That referee missunderstood my call, it was a compliment!".
Meanwhile at the POLICE-STATION, a young and promosing
detective, also known as CURLIN, worked late to tap the
lines of a group of known sceners. This was the result :

Meanwhile at the house of LORD CRUCIFIER
"So sweat to be a gardening man!!".

Meanwhile at the house of JAZZY D/CHROMANCE
"Suck my shitty ass".

Meanwhile at the house of TRICKET/MOTIV 8
"Tough cookies for dumb rookies".

Meanwhile at the house of DEFF/AVT
"I am the telephone man, telephone man, telephone man".

A more detailed tape was tapped at the house of ENDURO
of FAIRLIGHT, during the time he was editing REFORMATION.

"I need something people can laugh at, but I already wrote
about myself and my ambitions. Shit, I know I shouldn't be
doing this, but I guess no one will find out - I will steal
some of Satirica's jokes, especially that funny one Mean-
while at the house. Hey, what is that microphone doing there
hanging infront of my face - OH NO, I have been tapped!!!".
* CHOTAIRE/PANDORA (known as a musician and the person
who was seen running naked through the red square last
year) is once again on one of his daring ventures. This time
he moved to CHILE, to find a girl-friend. CHOTAIRE explained
to FAR-AWAY-LOW-LIFE how he only wanted someone who he
could talk to about the facts of life. Unfortunately his new
girl-friend, Spanishita, doesn't understand any English and
cracks up when CHOTAIRE juggles around with his German.
CHOTAIRE was disappointed, having realised it is infact
a lost cause to move all the way to CHILE to find his long
lost conversation-partner. "I know there will be one out
there for me, which is why I have booked myself on the next
wooden-boat to HONDURAS". Sail HO!
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
* CHROMANCE and MOTIV 8 have ended their 6-month long
war at an agreement in GENEVE last monday. CROSSFIRE and
MR.WAX was present with a group of high-payed lawyers, to
sign a peace contract, making sure both parts stop writing
anything bad about eachother on the US boards. CROSSFIRE
however, made a big scene about the fact that the agreement
stated he was not allowed to address MR.WAX as MR.TAMPAX
anymore. "I will have none of this, this is an outrage" shouted
CROSSFIRE in discontent, leaving the room in rage. We can
tell from this episode, that it may take a while before the
agreement is signed. The war continues, BUT for how long?!

+ THE ROAD TO THE TRIBUTE '94 +
         ----------------------------
GENESIS PROJECT invites all sceners of the past and today,
to take part in a major party, held as a tribute to the C64,
the scene and its inhabitants. This will be the most unique
party since the dawn of the scene, a most welcome event we
have all been waiting for.

THE PULSE MAGAZINE now brings you a sneak-preview of the
official details concerning this party, granted to us by our
good friend and colleague NEWSCOPY/GENESIS PROJECT.
We are proud to be able to be such an important part of
making this party a success, and therefore you will see a
complete report about the party in the months before the
party is to take place in Sweden. This is one event the scene
cannot afford to miss out on, this is our chance to prove our
existance internationally!

The arrangers of this party, GENESIS PROJECT, has spent
over 8 months tracking down legends and past sceners who
quit the scene ages ago. This is a project to bring to the
party all the people who ever had anything to do with the
scene, the passive and active members as well as the infamous
and unknown. To succeed in getting the largest number of
possible participants, GENESIS PROJECT will be releasing ...
... more than 3500 invitations. In addition to that, they will
be advertising through the available magazines and boards
all over the world, as well as real-life magazines. This is
truly an amazing marketing job being performed.

The party, TRIBUTE '94, will be held in GOTHENBURG, Sweden.
The location is in itself perfectly placed, as the trip to the
party is easy to plan, and therefore not a difficult journey
to perform. According to GENESIS PROJECT, the place of
which the party is to take place, will have special facilities
not yet ready to be revealed. We will, however, give you the
information we get about the party as they come.

TRIBUTE '94 appears to be extremely well planned, and
GENESIS PROJECT has arranged for a special award-
ceremony to take place after the demo-competition. This
party is one the winners will not soon forget, another reason
why demo-groups should start performing their bests for
this party. A lot of groups have already announced their
participation, and it appears the competition will be at its
highest level. We are therefore in for a special treat, when
the screen starts showing all the great demos, to a pure
audience of C64 sceners. Th award-ceremony will be performed
in the best oscar-nomination style. A famous scener will
present, and hand over, the award to the winning groups, ...
... as well as the runners-up. We at THE PULSE MAGAZINE,
therefore hope they will plan the competition, so that the
awards can take place at a time where the participants of
the party is still there to watch the awards being granted.
The CAMELOT-party was a complete disaster at that point,
as about 95 percent of the sceners had already left when it
was time to award the winners of the demo-competition. We
also hope GENESIS PROJECT will give better awards to the
winners, it would give the participants a reason to really do
their best.

Another special appearance at the TRIBUTE '94, will be the
special LIVE TV, running with interviews, results from the
competitions, coming directly from the party-studio. We at
THE PULSE MAGAZINE would therefore like to add to the
list of already great ideas, the idea of covering LIVE the
stress of the situation at the party before the competition,
including comments from the participants about the demos,
and debates from famous sceners about who they would think
could win once the official chart of the groups who will take
place will be released. It could really spice up the atmosphere
and excitement before the grand finale.

TRIBUTE '94 will also run a nostalgic C64-show, only this one
consisting of the best demos, intros, musics and graphics ...
... the scene has provided over the past decade.
GENESIS PROJECT underlined, how this show would really live
up to its purpose, something the one at the CAMELOT party
most definitely did not. We at THE PULSE MAGAZINE agree to
this statement, and are impressed with the idea, and looks
forward to it with great anticipation.

There you have it folks, some of the most important and
available facts has already been revealed about the coming
major C64 party. Mind you, we will continue our coverage, of
The Road To The TRIBUTE '94 Party, exclusive to GLOBAL
REPORT. Here is a quick run-down of some of the major
events, already official and planned by the arrangers:

* Competitions (Great equipment - Demo, Music and Graphics).

* Nostalgiabonanza (Demos, Intros, Musics and Graphics).

* Live-TV (Interviews, Results from the competitions and
          much more).

* Scene-Jeopardy (On stage, book yourself ASAP. Limited
               amount of contestants. Famous hosts).

* Rented nightclub (For the Elite only. VIP pass required).
* 24 hours Cafeteria/Snackstand.

* Pizza deliveries.

* Famous 64-musician live on stage.

* Party BB+Modem lines for trading.

* Movie rooms.

* Interesting profiles with surprises.

* Good sleeping and washing facilities.

* More is currently being planned.

We at THE PULSE MAGAZINE cannot wait to get going to this
party, and we hope that all sceners would pack their bags and
go at any cost as well. Not going would be an insult to the
scene, help us make the best impression of the scene as this
party would create world-wide attention!

PAY THE EASY WAY
Unfortunately GENESIS PROJECT will have to charge you for
the event. To make things easier for you, they have seen to ..
... it you can pay the entrance-fee in advance. Paying in
advance is cheaper, allows you to book rooms and space for
your group and gives you massive extra-service and facilities
at the party. At time of print, GENESIS PROJECT has already
receaved tons of pre-payments, so it is highly recommended
to hurry for the best rooms available. Yes, hurry!

All you do is make sure to pay SEK 185 at the bank account:

SKANDINAVISKA ENSKILDA BANKEN
XXX XXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXX

You will be able to pay both national and international.
Entrance-fee for non-pre-payers will be SEK 200 at the
door. With NO reservations.

Join us next month, in The Road To The Tribute '94, as we
reveal and debate all new information that will reach us.

               More To Come ----

* Lately, CROSSFIRE/MOTIV 8 has had to face some serious
charges from people claiming, that all of the cracks from
the M8-budget label "THE BINGO TEAM" was infact recracks!
Furthermore was he accused of having done several recracks
for MOTIV 8 as well. We asked CROSSFIRE for a statement and
got the following "VENGEANCE is trying to gain attention on
my behalf, speading lies about me. I did NOT re-crack anything
and the people involved knows it's true what I say. I even con-
tacted all the people supposively involved (GREGO+EDDIE/
MOTIV8, MET/MAYHEM, plus some others!), ALL of them which
VENGEANCE claims have admitted everything, funny enough,
they all tell ME they never spoke to him in the first place! I
can only gather from this, that VENGEANCE is using his so-
called personality and his "mag" behind him as a massive pro-
paganda trick for him and his cause, that he realized that he
couldn't beat me and therefore was forced to either admit his
defeat OR spread false rumours about me. Evidently, it's now
obvious WHICH decision he took, and what else COULD he do,
than to live up to his reputation and try the lowlife-solution?
I spern him and his friends supporting him, cause all of them
knows he is lying, and ironically enough, they are all dropping
out of the cause like flies... I guess THAT says everything,
doesn't it? VENGEANCE and VANDALISM NEWS, his propanda-
magazine, is LYING and they even KNOW it. Don't believe his
lies, cause he is just trying to score points on my past!"..
      LEGAL SCENE STATUS by JAZZCAT/LEGEND
    --------------------------------------
Welcome to the section of GLOBAL REPORT, where the
latest from the legal scene is altest gossip, idea's and
projects from the top software houses is at your hands.

We all know that the C64 has had a decline in the past few
years, as had most computers, due to perhaps the console
craze and the world wide recession, but still amazingly enough
there is still computer software being released on this nostal-
gic computer, the C64..

Before I start, I'd like to say in response to an article pub-
lished in a recent Commodore magazine from United Kingdom
about me. Firstly, those of you who have read it, you would
have found it quite amusing, as did I.

Well, what occoured that one night was, I had lost contact
with a friend in one of the UK-software teams, so thus seeing
this magazine as perhaps a resource of information I rang up
the editor in the main office and enquired if they had a phone-
number to a certain company. He kindly gave me the number and
w had a chat about what was happening on the C64, and I
mentioned to him sme of th projects I had heard about..
                                      ------
Of course these projects were quite overwhealming for him
and his magazine who over the past few months had been
reviewing 6-8 year old games because of the rare releases in
the UK's market. The mag incidently had gone bankrupt in its
mailing-section shortly after. After the conversation he must
have got quite excited, and wrote an article about me and
saying that I was some hoax and a liar. In my own pesonal way
I found this both amusing and insulting, and will in the near
future ring him up again on three-way with certain people.

From this we may all gather that certain people disbelief what
they would LIKE to be true. I respect this of course, as every
one is entitled to his own opinion. So I now start with the
latest from mainly phone-call conversations and proposals I
have seen in the past. Let us begin..

NEWS ON THE FRONT
---------------
OCEAN, the large established UK force has been partly
bought by the Japanese company SONY, relating to the C64
we do not know what this will bring. The company will be
releasing very soon however BATMAN II, which will be
produced by DENTON DESIGNS. Such games like PARASOL
STARS (also known as RAINBOW ISLAND III) and JURASSIC
PARK will nolonger be released! PARASOL STARS was started
on, but unfortunatele mishaps cause the original codework to
be destroyed. Another mysterious game they have kept quiet
about is ZOOL, they have had the rights for this game for
some tim, and it is unknown what is happening with it. The
future with OCEAN'C64 is still really unknown as several times
they have ceased, then they have picked up the reins again..

STORM/SALES CURVE, this quality label has been quit for
some time. Apparently they have the rights to and are cur-
rently creating a C64 version of LAWNMOWER MAN. We all
know that TRODDLERS may see the light of day with the impro-
ved reviews we see all the time. This company still shows
interest in the C64, so only time will tell.

CODEMASTERS, this once fine English budget company have
been said to soon release some compilations. It is to my know-
ledge true, that they will release FIREHAWK, an arcade full-
price game and surely some more as well that are un-titled.
Let's hope they will start again on this machine.

OTHER:
PALACE had been making BARBARIAN III for some time and I am
quite sure it is in an advanced state, although its unknown if
they will release it. They also were to release CRAZY CARS III.
                                       ------
THALAMUS, the quality group has had ARSENAL FC under
their belt for some time as well as KOSHIMO and a few other
games. Just recently, they disconnected any ties with their
in-house 64 team APEX PRODUCTIONS who are currently
obsercing the market before their next release.

SYSTEM III, although to most though as dead on the C64, they
will release some uncompleted and half-finished games such as
eh. FLIMBO's QUEST III, SILLY PUTTY and FUZZBALL, as well
maybe as some other productions.

US GOLD will definitely release MEGA TWINS in the very near
future, rumour has it that CHERRY SOFTWARE bought all
their C64-games to be released.

At the moment that is all there is to report from the United
Kingdom.

We have in the past seen some companies come and go, and I
would like to do a profile on one of the once leading C64-
publishers, namely SYSTEM 3.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
            THE LEGAL SCENE STATUS
                GLOBAL REPORT
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
When you really think about it they are not one of the once
prolific companies in software releases, although the company
has been in existance for well over 10 years we have only seen
13 games from their stables.

But when you look at their track-record, only a couple of them
games would fare badly in todays market. This is mainly be-
cause the CALE brothers (MARK, co-founder and ADRIAN, a
director!) have always had the policy of concentrations on the
product that would appear way ahead of its technological time.

There is hardly a SYSTEM 3 product that has gone without
atleast one gold plated accolade. The packagine, the market-
ing and the PR-stunts are all contribury to its games' suc-
cess. Infact it is this innovativeness that cause them to be
expelled from a PC-show in a famous incident. In order to
promote the game "TWISTER - MOTHER OF HARLOTS", MARK
had hired a group of scantily clad females to dance in "PANS
PEOPLE"-style. Some of the shows' head-people took offence
to the fact, that the girls wore little more than strips and
leather, and thus the stand was closed down and SYSTEM 3
was expelled from the rest of the show.

                                      ------

But that was not a setback and only helped the company to
grow, as everyone was awaiting their next release with eager
anticipation, and this up-coming release was to change the
entire industry, it was the first of possibly the most famous
game-series ever - THE LAST NINJA.

This was brought about mainly because beat-em-ups were very
populare at the time and MARK CALE had more than a passing
interest in the martial arts.

But.. SYSTEM 3 wanted something a little bit different from
the normal, and besides that they had earlier released INTER-
NATIONAL KARATE, a typical beat-em-up.

So THE LAST NINJA was developed much the same way a film
might be, with a complex plot, a storyboard and a plan of loca-
tions. THE LAST NINJA was nothing short of a masterpiece
and a programming-achievement by JOHN TWIDDY, by which
other pieces are still being compared.

SYSTEM 3 released another milestone at the time and that was
INTERNAL KARATE+ (also known as IK+! .ed!), an update on
the original theme and also the first ever sequel of an origi-
nal game.
               Switch To Next Page!
The Cales also did a repackaged release of THE LAST NINJA,
with a map, a rubber shuriken and a ninja mask all included in
the limited edition box.

During this time a rift was forming between the company that
was marketing all its products - ACTIVISION - and this was
stressed by the release of DOMINATOR, a game that the Cales
would rather have just scrapped due to the fact, that it was a
stock shoot-em-up, and not in no way a typical SYSTEM 3
production.

Fortunately, TUSKER managed to claw back some credibility,
and MYTH managed to secure that SYSTEM 3 was once more
one of the TOP C64-publishing-houses. In fact, MYTH had
such an in depth plot, that a movie synopsis has already been
drawn up.

The ACTIVISION-deal was ended with the release of VEN-
DETTA, which essentially reworked the LAST NINJA-formula,
and added the extra element of a driving game. So the company
finally went its own way with the release of FLIMBO'S QUEST,
and as Adrian states.. "SYSTEM 3 has a license in itself in
the form of the NINJA-series!".
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
               Switch To Next Page!
The company even felt, that THE LAST NINJA II was outdated
so much, that we saw the release of LAST NINJA REMIX, a re-
worked version of the previous game. This was although a tas-
ter for by far, the most impressive of the trilogy - THE LAST
NINJA III.

After the fantastic breakthrough with this, they changed
their style with a game generated from the car element of
VENDETTA, and this was called TURBO CHARGE.

Hopefully with some other games in the line things will con-
tinue and the Cales will have to get a larger cabinet for their
awards.

Board Report

         THE BOARD REPORT by CROSSFIRE
         -------------------------------
The summer has reached its end, and we are back to present
you yet another edition of the BOARD report. The guide to
what is happening in the world of boards and the people who
is a part of it.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
To summon it up very quickly, the old SCS-board EDGE OF
MIDNIGHT was taken on by CHROMANCE after they had been
looking for a HQ ever since the departure of PHIBERCOM and
the busting of LUCIFER. The sysop of EOM had been looking
for a new HQ-group since SCS left the board, and together
they sorted out eachothers problem (Oh! That co-operation!).
Shortly after this occoured, ALPHA FLIGHT took on the old
ARCADE-HQ HOLIDAY INN COMBODIA which had been indepen-
dant since ARCADE's death, well over one and a half year ago.
Evidently, they dropped their old hq THE EVIL ISLAND, which
CHROMANCE also took over. An American also joined them
them recently called by the name of ZIRCO from New York who
joined them to put up a new board named UNLAWFUL ENTRY
for CHROMANCE. The board never became a reality, since the
sysop of TUNNEL OF WARES quitted the scene and ZIRCO
joined up with F4CG and re-opened the board, still running
under the F4CG-flag. Meanwhile, G*P was replaced with SCS+
TRC on THE DUNGEON due to G*P's absence. -Next Page!-
Shortly following this incident, SCS+TRC was taken back on
on REBELLION. Deals for REBELLION to become the World-HQ
for THE PULSE MAGAZINE was almost home, but was ruined in
the last minute whereafter VANDALISM NEWS was taken on
the board instead.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
An old legendary board was re-opened. The old DOM-board
DREAM PARK was brought back to life. It brought a lot of
aggrovation to several people, since the sysop is not CYBORG
(ex.DOM) who USED to run it, but a certain ODDYSEUS/AVT,
who claims he has got permission from the old sysop. The board
SEEMS to be independant, and is one to follow the latest
trend of running on a 1-800 number.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
The 1-800 trend is spreading. SEVERAL boards already has it.
Such as eg. REBELLION, THE DUNGEON, HOLIDAY INN CAM-
BODIA and DREAM PARK has not been slow to get it on. The
sysop of EDGE OF MIDNITE has also shown huge interest, and
will probably be next. IN LIVING COLOR was offered a 1-800 #
but considered it wisest turn down the gracious offer. Merely
looking at the trouble the sysop has gotten with the authori-
ties at the current time.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
That was some of the most important headlines. But as the
special magazine THE PULSE is, ofcause we've got more..
As stated earlier, CHROMANCE took on EDGE OF MIDNIGHT as
their HQ. THE PULSE caught up with the sysop, the very nice
and helpful RUG RAT, whom we for ONCE didn't need to tie to
his chair to give us a low-down (..if only more people were so
co-operative!)..
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
Ladies and gentlemen, DO welcome Rug Rat/CHROMANCE, who
is co-hosting us this month to give us all the "nice to know
info" on that board of his, namely THE EDGE OF MIDNIGHT..
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
THE START-UP OF EDGE OF MIDNIGHT..
        -----------------------------
It all started back in 1985. Yes, you can say I am one of the
last dinosaurs! I didn't start running a board until about 1986
where I used "HAL BBS", which was LAME as HELL! The board
was at that time called THE SPACE STATION. Then after a few
weeks I didn't like the board and switched to a board called
"FFBBS", made by some local around my way. I ran that for a
while but got bored of the lame programming, so I switched to
"DOES THE JOB BBS" (DT J) and I ran that until 1987. Then
between 1987 and 1988, those days are when I was introduced
into hacking/phreaking, and I was so amazed when I hacked my
first code, and I think it was an 0488-code at that! Anyways,
I then ditched th DT J BBS and ran IVORY BBS for a pretty
long time.... -Next Page!-
That's when I was in my first real group, NPN (National Pirat-
es Network) former member-status was THE PIPER, REALM
MASTER, AVENGER, SIDEWINDER, BEACHBOY and of course
myself (for those who didn't know, NPN became a VERY famous
importing-group as well .ed). It was cool as hell to me, so I
then changed my boards' name into EDGE OF MIDNIGHT and
time the "THE" in the title was included.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
EDGE OF MIDNIGHT was now NPN Northeast HQ. Soon NPN died
away as THE PIPER disappeared and the member-status just
vanished. After that I was in some small groups, but nothing
really exiting to talk about. Around 1991 through 1992 I was
running solo and everything was doing great. I went through a
few MORE BBS-programs (IVORY BBS, UCBBS, DMBBS, to fin-
ally what I use now...C*BASE!).
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
Then came the beginning of a new era for EoM as we picked up
SUCCESS and DEMONIX to support. It was great while it lasted
but the SUCCESS-guys left as they couldn't have possibly
have waited anylonger for me to get the drive-space as they
did. They waited so damn long and couldn't wait anylonger so
they had no choice but to move on to a board with more space.
They left EoM for REBELLION which is now SCS*TRC+PSI HQ.
But of course, as soon as SUCCESS leaves, EoM got the pro-
mised hardware online.. -Next Page!-
EoM runs: 40 Megs, Ramlink, 512k Reu, 3 1581's, 2 1571's and
1 1541. So, I decided I couldn't have all that space and not be
a HQ for someone. I started posting around that EoM was open
for a HQ-group and the next few days I had offers from seve-
ral groups, but I chose the one I liked the most, not that I
didn't like the others.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
So HOMEBOY/CHROMANCE came to me and said that they were
looking for a HQ. I told 'em I'd be more than happy to run a
board for CHROMANCE. So within a couple of weeks, EoM be-
came CHROMANCE World HQ. Right now it's running great and
will soon have a 1-800 # slapped on its line, so the lamers'll
be weeded out & off the system, and only the God-people will
be given the 1-800 number. That's all I really have to say
about THE EDGE OF MIDNIGHT. It's been a fun 7 years running
the board and hopefully I'll be in the scene running EoM for
as long as it lasts.

members and all CHROMANCE members.
Personal thanks to: HOMEBOY, CROSSFIRE, TROUBLE,

missed anyone, I am sorry.

runs on EDGE OF MIDNIGHT.

As told earlier, the old DOMINATORS-hq has been re-opened
by ODYSSEUS/ex.AVANTGARDE having the permission of good
old CYBORG/ex.DOMINATORS who was the original sysop (..and
OBVIOUSLY the man behind the Cyborg Modded C*Base!!! .ed!).

THE PULSE MAGAZINE gives the word to ODYSSEUS/ex.AVT,
the new sysop behind the new DREAM PARK..

Well, I started to call the scene-boards back in 1988 or 1989
and I went under the alias of CAESAR joining groups such as
DHH/FLIP and ULTRALOGIC, I was a scanner and 2 bit hacker.
Nothing special at the time, so I decided that I wanted to run
a board for along time since my first modem-experience. My
board went from NINJA'S PALACE, to CHAOTIC FACTOR and as
a JOKE (Only a JOKE? .ed!) - DREAM PARK -.. I would like to
let everyone know that I am not trying to copy CYBORG in the
first place, but he HAS given me permission to run his board
and system like 3 years ago when it first went down. Hell, I
had everything and I STILL do.

Well, CHAOTIC FACTOR is back up for the Commodore-system.
I think that this is the best computer for modeming ever made
and I will always stay on CBM 64/128.
                                    -Next Page!-
I have currently running on my board is :

1 FD 4000 drive (Now partitioned)
     1 14400 Intel v 42 bis modem
     1 C*Base 64 (Waiting for a better modd!)
     1 Commodore 64 system.
1 Swiftlink Cartridge to go with the modem.

I really can't say much more than that about the peripherals
the system is running, but I'm looking for a 45 meg drive, that
RUG RAT is trying to get me.

It is brought to my attention, that a friend of mine in the
scene knows a backdoor that can get into ALL(!) C*Base ver-
sions. WHITE LIGHTNING hacked himself into Prof.Plum's (the
author of C*Base! .ed!) board and fucked it up and pissed Plum
off, so he was attempting to fuck it and he said it was a mis-
take in the programming. I will not reveal who is doing this or
who knows how to exactly get in, but it's fucking annoying. It
happened to me like 2 weeks ago and no one is safe unless all
of you who are REGISTRED users of C*Base goes to Plum's
board and downloads the version where he has corrected the
problem. Oh, and all those of you who runs Cyborg Modds, it
has a SHIT-LOAD of backdoors in it, so I would have your local
programmer-friends take it out for you - Just an advice!!!
I understand, that my board used to go down alot, but that was
due to the problem with the FD4000 partition and not MY fault!
I even used to stay up all night to make sure it would not go
down.. I know I would never become a SysOp of AVANTGARDE
again, and I have come to grasp with that Idea, but I AM look-
ing for a new group!

Warez or H/P - Which one? I would like to run a H/P-board
with wares-support, which is the IDEAL way of running a REAL
board because one cannot exist without the other. Europeans
need cards from us H/P'ers, and we need Europeans for wares
and to keep in touch with our favorite users online, right?!?!
Well, if I could have my way, I would like to continually see
it grow and prosper with the following years.

Signing off, ODYSSEUS/ex.AVANTGARDE..

A few days before the release of this magazine, a new board
opened in Denmark by the name of *WESTPOINT*.. The sysop
is Heavy Head/TRIAD, and we asked for some system-info and
was given it VERY fast..

WESTPOINT SYSTEM-INFO

WestPoint is run by the following:
------------------------
1 New Commodore 64
1 1541 Diskdrive (Main BBS Drive)
1 1541 II DiskDrive (Subs-drive)
1 1581 DiskDrive (Wares Drive)
1 Aprotek 2400 Baud Minimodem
1 Prosonic Supervision Monitor
1 Okzent System/Drive Cooler
1 Older Commodore 64 as System Backup

WESTPOINT was been online since July 28th 1994.. The sysop
is Heavy Head/TRIAD, whilst Bird/MOTIV 8 is co-sysop. Bird,
who until recently ran another danish board by the name of
ELMSTREET, which was taken down some months earlier.
                                    -Next Page!-
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
WESTPOINT has gotten over 805000 Bytes Free, which is de-
vided over 4 drives:

1. New Stuff (New Wares - 0-10 Days!)
2.Older Stuff (Older Wares 10-? Days)
3.Mags & Stuff (Mags 'n' tools that deserves to be
                online abit longer!)
4.Private (For the staff!)
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
Then there is the subboards, of which there are 4:

1. Westpoint Check-In (Post here every call!)
2.Let's Get High! (This is where you can sell or buy
hash, dope, bikes, all sorts of stuff!)
3.Wars, Wars, Wars (The name tells it all..)
4.Private (For the staff!)
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
IMPORTANT NOTICE: After this was written, HEAVYHEAD and
WESTPOINT joined REGINA. Due to this MAJOR changes will
occour on this board during the next couple of weeks!

mains HQ for PROPAGANDA. The number given here to TUNNEL
OF WARES if ofcourse the very one after Zirco re-opened it,
whether or not the board is still also 20CC-hq is yet unknown.
                THE EUROPEAN BOARDS

Due to populare demand, and seing how the european boards
are becoming more and more populare, we decided as the first
to bring you a complete list over the BIGGEST and most POPU-
ARE boards in Europe, and it goes like this...

Name of board HQ-Group Number

Sodapop's PARADIZE has been down for ages, but some people
still keeps on calling. SCS+TRC having THREE boards in euro-
pe looks a little wild (Going for # 1 in some chart, are we???)

+ THE AUGUST PROFILE - THE INTERVIEW +
      -------------------------------
Welcome once again curious readers to the forum of the
famous and successful sons and daughters of the scene.
This month we have invited a very exciting scener, one I
definitely guarantee will cause great interest among all of
you readers.

This months profile started his career in the scene at a
time where todays major groups were not even considered,
but at a time where everything was new and growing.
Our guest made a name of himself through many years of
service in the cracking-scene, but he was later to leave
the scene. Ironically enough he returned to become one of
the few people who fight for the existance of the scene in
a remarkable way. He took over one of the largest operations
in the scene, taking it into a direction that gave it new ways
of amazing the people and its many fans and followers.

You may know our guest best as the new and inspiring editor
of the diskmagazine PROPAGANDA. He is a very liked person
in the scene, undoubtedly because of his positive nature and
his work to promote the 64-scene. It is with great pleasure I
present this months profile, in his last interview for any
magazine, please welcome NEWSCOPY of GENESIS PROJECT!
[D] Welcome PER. Please give the readers a resume of your
career up to now.

[N] Thank you ALEX. Well what we have to do is step back in
time a bit. Early 80's, 1981 to be precise. By then I got hold
of a VIC 20 (a splendid piece of machinery at its time!). This
was at dawn of computer-age, and games were put out by the
minute. A local friend of mine introduced me to the magic of
pirated games and taught me all the tricks I needed to know.
So with an expansionport, 16K, extra ram and a 6502 assembler
cartridge I was ripping companies off in masses as I saw to it
their cartridges were cracked. No handle, no nothing.
By 1983 I had quite a large collection of games and had grown
to become a talented cracker, even though I wanted to take it
further. I start working on code for a game, but got fed up in
the sweat and released it as an intro/demo on my release of
"JELLY MONSTERS" (Commodore's ripoff of Atari's PACMAN).
All of this was done under my work at a local computershop,
and the kids startled. Haha! At this time some groups came
along to the VIC20; INDY, 1701, BAD BOYS and PCS. However,
fall 1983 I was hypnotized by the power of a new machine, the
Commodore 64. Slowly I realized it was my call and by Christ-
mas 1983 I had one of my own. Everybody was getting it, and it
was the talk of the town. I was exploring wonders on a new
miracle, also with a 6502, that I already knew. In a month I
was cracking on it, and had a wonderful supplier at my local
computershop.
Living in the USA, I could easily get hold of the American
games and I started working for local groups, cracking. I do
not remember exactly, but some of the names were GKC,
FANDANGO CREW (where JJ THE BREAKER was in!) and some
other names. My handle, however, was still CHEESE. This was
in 1984 to 1985.
In early 1986 me and my family moved back home to Sweden
after 7 years abroad, but thru my father I had gotten hold of
splendid UK-connections in terms of originals. I had a bugger
adapting myself to the Swedish system, but slowly I did.
Fortunately I got to know some important Swedish profiles. As
I did, I ran into MR.PINGE, legendary member of WCC/WEST
COAST CRACKERS) to whom I owe a great deal. We did some
work together, but eventually I joined THE SILENTS (TSL),
that was actually formed by MR.PINGES brother SNOOKIE. At
first, the name was XL-CRACKERS (XLC), but it changed
rapidly. This is the same TSL that you see on the Amiga today,
though none of the original members are in today. I did some
supplies and some releases, and around the same time I got my
handle NEWSCOPY. Oh yes, they were good years to live.
Worth living!
Years passed and at this point a million groups were around.
The Amiga had arrived, and TSL was looking at a future on it,
while I had no interest in the machine whatsoever. While TSL
did their share of focusing on the Amiga, I had vagne interest
in contributing for them on the 64. I made some farewell
releases along with the others and went independent for some
time, basically supplying 2 top-3 groups with originals,
undercover. Actually what I did was slowing down things a
whole lot, since family and education deserved a lot more
time than I had been giving them. I kept getting offers from
groups but remained reluctant for a long time. I did a short
visit in CRUSADE (later on UNIBIT and NUCLEAR) before
realizing I belonged in EXACT. I got to know HOOKIE, a
brilliant coder in the UK, while the rest were Germans (FILL,
DELTA, TCC, SNACKY (G*P)) and some others. Even MR.PRE-
SIDENT (MRP) was in EXACT. FILL sent me a 1200 modem and
by the end of 87 or early 88 I made contact with some boards,
but I was fairly bored. At the same time I did a sideproject
with a friend concerning, with awesome graphics by FOX/DOM,
but in the end it never did see the light of day. Sad!
As DELTA and other members of EXACT left for RSI on the
Amiga (see the famous RSI mega demo from 1989 and you'll see
what I mean). I kept going by cracking with HOOKIE, doing
fairly well. At the same time, I went undercover supplying a
not yet revealed group with first-releases (as EXACT con-
centrated mainly on mail now). Still I was calling out a bit.

By late 1989 I was deeply involved in a girlfriend, but still
playing dead stupid with EXACT, not spending enough time
with her (and I do regret it now, looking back, as I still
know her very well). Furthermore I was flying back to the USA
like a god damn yo-yo, making it damn hard to keep up and
really feel at home, either place. On top of that, RAZOR of
ONEWAY, then one of my close friends sent a letter to OMG/
AMOK claiming NEWSCOPY of EXACT was recracking games,
which ended up in SEX'N'CRIME (Thanks Oliver!). My first
randez-vous with GP - haha! I gave both RAZOR and OLIVER
a boot and fucked all.
By November 1989, early December I decided to quit the whole
crap. Did some cracks, called MAD MAD WORLD, GREAT
ESCAPE and THE ADDICTION and said I am gone for good. I had
done my share and was not looking back. Mind you, I was still
supplying games to 2 groups, though actually not being active.
Never revealed - never will. I do salute them however. I did
this for 2 years, steadily observing everything going on.
By 1991 I was hungry again and got a call from Oliver (!) who
had set up a group called JOY DIVISION, and wanting to take
a piece of cake I joined, though it was much of a fake label.
After JOY DIVISION, I met JUCKE and ended up in VISION,
which I only saw as a natural step to get back into business.
Sad thing was, many many of my old friends were gone, and
there were a lot of new faces around. After VISION, I formed
CALADAN with SKINHEAD (now SUPREME/AFL) and a lot of
people came along (JUCKE, TRONIC, SODAPOP, SKID ROW,
DR.COOL, ADOLF and more). It was disastrous. Shortly after
I supplied "WONDERBALL" fx (CALADAN/EMPIRE) SKINHEAD
called me up and said - "We're all in F4CG now!".
The heck we were! Not according to SOLAR! A lot of us went to
GENESIS PROJECT, and that was home. My heart pounds for
GP. A lot of new friends. The best of times.
This is the most detailed story of my history, but I have cut
away a lot to shorten it. Don't get bored.

[D] Thanks for such a detailed resume, it was far from boring.
In some ways you are known as the substitute for the great
GP boss ANTICHRIST, taking over GENESIS PROJECT and
PROPAGANDA. What changes do you think GP has gone
through during your reign?

[N] I must be boring you. Yeah well, when ANTICHRIST finally
married DEBBIE he'd already told me to take over things a few
months before - he knew what would happen, and so did I, we
just decided to not tell anybody. I took over and did so with
pleasure. Mind you, this is done under steady observation
from him, as I consider GENESIS being his legacy, while I am
just keeping it up. We have been fairly slow for periods, but
things are changing. PROPAGANDA will be a more regular
sight, and releasewise we do have surprises up our sleeve.
Organisation in the group is at this point very strict, but
we all work like a dream. A lot of new talents have been added
and strong old ones are struggling along or finding their way
back. I think groups do need new vitamins from time to time.
Injected power really. Many say GP is not the same. I do not
agree. ROLLING STONES without MICK JAGGER ain't the
Stones and GP without ANTICHRIST ain't GP. GP still accepts
no limits!

[D] PROPAGANDA was known as a very subjective magazine
during its time with ANTICHRIST as the editor. Would you say
you have created your own style for PROPAGANDA or is it
still the same as in the days with ANTICHRIST writing it?

[N] ANTICHRIST used the name of the magazine for similar
purposes. It was pure GP-propaganda, but done with a glimpse.
It's not anymore. My intentions are somewhat different, and
focusing on it, I think I've managed to take over its name. If
people find the board-focused style doesn't appeal, there is
one other brilliant magazine to the grabs monthly!
PROPAGANDA today has found its style. But it will never stop
growing.

                                     ------
[D] I sure hope not, PROPAGANDA is one of the few decent
magazines released today. How would you characterize taking
over PROPAGANDA to be?

[N] When I first decided to pick up PROPAGANDA again, I had
little experience with magazines, but I realize their power
and importance, giving a total reflection of everything. A
medium. First issue I ever did was crap. The pure bollocks
really! Then, it felt as somebody loosened up a knot and I was
good at it. The past few issues have in my eyes reflected the
elitescene very accurately. We had some problems. PSYCHO-
BILLY was to do the list, but he quit the scene, and BOD was
to take over. He didn't. Now, as of today, talented BURGLAR/
SCS+TRC does wonders in working with THE LIST. It takes a
lot of time doing a magazine, but it's a pleasant challenge
(wouldn't want to miss out on).

[D] We are all waiting with great anticipation to see how well
ENNO will do when PROPAGANDA comes out again. It is notable
that PROPAGANDA is one of todays prefered magazines. How
would you grade your own work for PROPAGANDA sofar?

[N] Oh God, how difficult. I think the way I am doing the news
is really satisfying. So analytic. Always delivering the very
latest. I would like seeing more debates but one has to make
a LOT of noise in order to start one. So it seems at least.
PROPAGANDA will grow in the future, however. One might say
we're adapting for the future.

[D] You are quite the poet PER, haha. What are your future
plans with PROPAGANDA, you once said something about
putting it out as a paper-magazine sometime!

[N] There is always a million ideas going on in my head, as I
am always thinking one step ahead. One thought is an issue of
PROPAGANDA on paper. If I were you, I'd go to the ECTS in
London to find out!

[D] It is very possible I might show up, atleast to visit some
of the great football games around London. How would you
describe the available magazines in the scene today, and
how would you compare that to the past ones in the scene?

[N] Media is great, if treated properly. In the early days
with ILLEGAL, things got pretty much out of hand. There
was no competition, and therefore quality seemed to be
obscurity. Then diskmagazines came along and with
SEX'N'CRIME, a boom appeared. A million tounges eager to
speak was an evident event. Thru this pyle of magazines a
few rose above the others. Magazines that managed to be
competetive in quality.
Today, however, things are pretty sad. Two diskmagazines and
one on paper that live up to the qualities the public SHOULD
demand. People dare not talk. We need more profiles. We need
your piece of mind. Only then, things will thrive.

[D] GENESIS PROJECT has a lot of years on its back. Would
you say the departure of many of its old members, and the
recruiting of new talents, was a sign of a generation-change?

[N] With over 7 years in service a lot happens in a group. The
whole scene has gone thru a generational change, no make
that two, or three changes where very few have been
persistant enough to stay along on the jolly ride. Some of
the profiles you may combine with GP are gone, some are not,
some are simply coming back. It is my and OLIVER's intention
to make sure that GP never loses its inner core. We have
devotion there, so intense you'd go wondering whether we're
married or not. Concerning new talents, we do have rules and
different testing periods before we let them in on the
greatest and most secret of shows. GP is not only a group.

[D] The most healthy groups operate as a family, which really
boosts the activity level. Anyway, what is the future plans for
GP on the demo- and cracking area?
[N] I could sit here all night, but then again, I won't.
GENESIS has a few things under development! Some may
surprise, some may not. Word goes around quickly around
here. There is a board going up for us, a party has been
planned.. That's all we can say right now. I might as well
shut my mouth.

[D] The interested can find the latest GENESIS PROJECT
news in this months edition of NEWS JOURNAL. The scene is
slowly diminishing on both the mail as well as the board-scene.
What is your opinion of this, are you optimistic about the
future existance of the 64-scene?

[N] The 64 has been fading the past 5 or 6 years, but we
quickly adapt ourselves. A few years back, German games
from DOUBLE DENSITY would be the worst thing, while we
consider it VERY ok these days.
We are the scene, and we make it thrive by encouraging it.
Keeping up the spark by putting out good magazines, serving
competition in the cracking part of the scene and not losing
faith in what this 8-bitter can do programwise. 1993 there
were over 1.000.000 (one million) 64's sold. Only 300.000
Amigas. A lot of potential is still left, and with all East
European countries we've got a whole new market to explore.
Indeed a huge market has been born. It all may seem cool on
SNES, wonderful on the PC, but in the end there's nothing
like the 64, with all releases, characters, profiles and its
typical 8-bit style. We are.. charming! I think a lot of us
will go down with cheerful and warm memories about the 64
for as long as we live.

[D] I couldn't have said it any better myself. Great speech
about the 64, I surely hope everyone was paying attention.
Are you currently active on other computers, and if so, what
are you working with at the moment?

[N] I'm coding on the SNES, just to adapt myself programmer's
wise. It will take long before I go to another scene, because
there is still so much undone on the 64 for me. GP are active
both on PC and Consoles, but time will tell.

[D] A lot of people may find your friendship with ANTICHRIST
quite interesting. How would you describe that connection,
and what is his opinion of the changes GENESIS PROJECT has
been thru since he left the scene?

[N] When I got to know OLIVER we developed a warm and
creative friendship that proved itself more than scenewise.
It came to a pretty strange point whenever he was having
trouble with DEBBIE, he'd come to me. Their relationship was
hazardous for GP and, GP for them, so their retirement was
much appreciated by all of us. Having him as an observer is
easier although I'd like to have him active by my side. We
have a splendid communicational relationship and function
perfectly. We may not be a box of boast these days, but we
do speak our piece of mind, and indeed we do tricks. We have
our ways and we smile as we have them.

[D] What is the current memberstatus of GENESIS PROJECT?

[N] NEWSCOPY, JUCKE, WALKER, TYGER, LA STYLE,
MOTLEY, SCOPE, DR.ACID, SNACKY, MURDOCK, ALLANON,
THE MINISTRY (JAYCE and MARCUS), TWIST, ANTICHRIST
and SORCERESS.

[D] It is known to us all, that you had a bit of problems
releasing PROPAGANDA on a regular date lately. What is your
excuse for this, and can we expect a steady released
PROPAGANDA in the future?

[N] I do not believe I have to excuse myself for doing so. I
know THE PULSE depends on it. SHOCK was never a regular
magazine. Of course I do not intend to delay things like
before, but things tend to stop me all through. My goal is
every 6 weeks. That'd be swell.
[D] That sounds good enough to me. You are right that THE
PULSE more or less invented the monthly released magazine,
and to us it gives us a lot of possibilities in terms of doing
the most thorough coverage of the scene. Anyway, according
to your portrait in PIRATES, you have lived in the states for
a lot of years. Please tell us about your visit to America.

[N] I've lived several years in the wonderful city of
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA, a couple of miles from the
second biggest beach in the world, VIRGINIA BEACH. So it's
pretty funny it turned out this way. When I wasn't stuck with
my computerized interest I'd be spending full days at the
beach with my friends. I went to school there and had the best
of friends. Ocassionally, during the late 80's when I was
flying back a few months in a row to work and meet up with my
friends and JESSICA (long ago) I stayed in HARTFORD/CON-
NECTICUT, BOSTON and the family bungalow at VIRGINIA
BEACH. Looking back at those years now, really makes my
heart acke. Sigh. I have a wonderful girlfriend here, and a
million good friends I'd sincerly miss, so I'm not going back
just for a while. When I go, I go for good...

[D] America sure is a great country, but it takes a true fan
to want to go live there. You are also active on the American
boards. What is your opinion of the activity on the US boards
these days, and how do you predict the future to be for the
existance of them?

[N] At the time it seemed the boards in the states were facing
a dull future, but all of that changed. New places are picked
up all of the time, and become accepted pretty quickly. And
furthermore, the important profiles, that have a value in
terms of discussions are always able to call out. Cards may
be rare these days, but everybody manages. GP hasn't been
on AT&T for two years.
Yes the boards will continue to thrive. TERMINAL OBSESSION
and THE FORUM going back up was just the start..

[D] You have been in the scene for a lot of years. How would
you look back on these years when you grow old. Do you think
you would tell your grand-children about it?

[N] These are the days of my life, dear ALEX! I've come to
realize that I'll always remember the scene, though some
people will vanish out of my mind. I might very well talk to my
kids about it. The past 13 months I've been scetching the
basic structure on a book about the scene, and when I publish
it, it will be dedicated to all of you. As a final exam in
journalism this year (graduation-exam) I wrote about the
scene, 90 pages. The book will be about 300 pages covering
all. This memory will last in my heart forever, and it's a
digital journey I'll never forget.

[D] Absolutely. Be sure to let us know when the book will be
out, I for sure will be one of the first to get a hold of it.
What is your personal future plans in the 64-scene?

[N] I'll stay around until some very important friends of mine
grow tired of it or within it actually sinks. I've got some
secrets that I'm not sharring with anybody, as well.

[D] That is understandable. Before we end this interview,
would you perhaps like to greet your friends?

[N] By golly yes! So many to hug after all this time. I've gone
all nostalgic writing about the past! These are some people
I'd like to take a beer with, whenever I get the change
(hopefully at the ECTS!!) : SOLAR (F4CG), PSYCHOBILLY &
TERMO (RSI), HOOKIE (ex.EXACT), HOK & DEFF (AVT),
MAJESTY (TALENT), GERWIN (FAIRLIGHT), GARFIELD (ex.
ILLUSION), CHAMELEON & GAZER (DIVINEE ULTIMATUM),
SUPREME (AFL), TIMOC (ex. X-RAY), IAN (ex. FUSION),
TRI-DOS, SATAN & RAY (ex. GP), ANTICHRIST, SORCERESS,
JUCKE, WALKER and everybody in GENESIS PROJECT.

[D] Thanks a lot for doing this detailed interview for THE
PULSE MAGAZINE, it is nice to know that we are not so
competetive that we completely ignore our rivals. Do you have
any last remarks before we go?

[N] Remarks? Oh golly. 2 things important, I guess. Do not
forget attending the ECTS in LONDON, since I consider it
being the biggest of events, and furthermore, the GENESIS
PROJECT party in November, now that's a success!

I love you all,
PER (NEWSCOPY/GENESIS PROJECT)
---------------------------------------
It has been a great pleasure for me to be able to do the last
and most detailed interview with NEWSCOPY. I sincerly hope
all of you have enjoyed reading this piece, and will join us
next month when we invite another profile who is part of
making the scene what it is today.

We would like to encourage everyone to read this months
GLOBAL REPORT for the informations concerning the coming
GENESIS PROJECT party this November in Sweden. We are
the first to promote this party!

on 9 Magazines released in this summer. We award 10 points to
the number one, down to 1 point for the 10th place.

your votes will be counted here as well.

The following 9 Magazines deserves the credits as the ones
we used in the making of the Overall Charts. We send them our

The best DEMO GROUPS, CODERS, GRAPHICIANS, MUSICIANS,
CRACKING GROUPS, CRACKERS, MAGAZINES, SWAPPERS and
the OVERALL CHART are coming up on the following pages.
There will also be a lot of important remarks about the charts
in every catagory, be sure to read them as well.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
--------------
It appears that a couple of our steady readers, have shown
their negative opinions towards the OVERALL CHARTS. Due
to that, and the fact that we feel their opinions are biased,
we decided to explain the actual meaning of this chart. You
will be able to read more of this in MEET THE PRESS.

The OVERALL CHARTS is a relatively new chapter to the
program of THE PULSE MAGAZINE. When we first started
expanding chapters-wise, we all agreed that we did not want
to make "just" another chart, as there are more than enough
out there in the many magazines available. Therefore we
thought it would be interesting to do a new kind of chart,
this one covering the charts from the world of magazines
released monthly. This chart was not to be looked upon as
any official chart, but as a chart which would logically
represent the charts as they show in the magazines.

Now that we have explained our intentions with this chart, I
hope that certain people would stop making pointless remarks
that "THE PULSE is too lazy to do their own vote-sheets",
when it is clear to all that we never made plans for such a
chart, and that we already have a special one the readers
enjoy reading.
BEST DEMO GROUPS - AUGUST 1994 [Legal Chart]

  POS. L.POS. GROUP NAME... POINTS
---------------------------------------------
   1 (5) OXYRON 74
   2 (1) CAMELOT 68
   3 (4) CREST 61
   4 (2) CENSOR DESIGN 58
   5 (3) FAIRLIGHT 45
   6 (6) TRIAD 44
   7 (8) ANTIC 26
   8 (-) TABOO 20
   9 (10) FOCUS 13
   10 (-) FLASH INC. 11
---------------------------------------------
+ OXYRON was unbeatable in every chart in the world, as they
took on the most prestigious position in the charts. There is
a bit of irony to this though, as they only just released a new
demo. Due to this, they could stay on this positon for a very
long time period.

* CENSOR DESIGN and FAIRLIGHT is doing the yoyo dance a
bit, while TABOO and FLASH INC. re-enters the chart. It is
quite strange how FHI keeps entering the charts, they have
not done anything for ages. Farewell to PADUA and TOPAZ!
BEST CODERS - AUGUST 1994 [Legal Chart]

  POS. L.POS. SCENERS NAME... POINTS

   2 (1) CROSSBOW/CREST 62
   3 (3) TRON/FAIRLIGHT 51
   4 (4) SLAMMER/CAMELOT 50
   5 (5) BOB/CENSOR DESIGNS 41

   7 (7) MMS/TABOO 35
   8 (7) D'ARC/TOPAZ BEERLINE 30
   9 (8) GLASNOST/CAMELOT 13
   10 (-) KING FISHER/TRIAD 10
---------------------------------------------
+ OXYRON is this months absolute leaders in the demo charts,
and once again TTS and CROSSBOW switches places!

* A lot of non-movers in this months chart, only ZODIAC seems
to be one with a certain direction. What is this FHI vote boom
for anyway? Try to vote for active people instead!

* KING FISHER is back in the charts after a while out in the
cold, question is, how will he reward the people for voting on
him? Meanwhile we bid goodbye to MR.SEX of BYTERAPERS.
BEST GRAPHICIANS - AUGUST 1994 [Legal Chart]

  POS. L.POS. SCENERS NAME... POINTS
---------------------------------------------
   1 (1) CREEPER/ANTIC 75
   2 (2) ELECTRIC/EXTEND 70
   3 (3) OGAMI/FAIRLIGHT 64
   4 (4) JOE/WRATH DESIGNS 60
   5 (6) HEIN HOLT/FOCUS 43
   6 (8) CRUISE/ELYSIUM 41
   7 (7) MIRAGE/FOCUS 31
   8 (-) DANE/TRIAD 18
   9 (-) BIZ KID/OXYRON 15
   10 (-) CARRION/ELYSIUM 11
---------------------------------------------
+ There can be no doubt anymore. CREEPER is the king of
graphicians. He has now been the holder of the crown for a
very long time, and may keep on holding it.

* This month the charts are introduced to new talents who
we most likely will see more of in the future, in shapes of
DANE, BIZ KID and CARRION. The bad news was the very
unexpected departure of great graphicians like ROB and
SANDER. Also DRAGON was dismissed, but due to his long
absence from the scene that was atleast understandable.
BEST MUSICIANS - AUGUST 1994 [Legal Chart]

  POS. L.POS. SCENERS NAME... POINTS
---------------------------------------------
   1 (1) SYNDROM/TIA/CREST 78
   2 (2) JEROEN TEL/PHYZICS 69
   3 (4) P.R.I./OXYRON 56
   4 (3) DRAX/VIBRANTS/CREST 55
   5 (8) DANKO/CENSOR DESIGN 38
   6 (9) RED DEVIL/FAIRLIGHT 35
   7 (7) ZYRON/ANTIC 31
   8 (6) A-MAN/AVANTGARDE 29
   9 (5) JEFF/CAMELOT 23
   10 (-) COMPOD 10
---------------------------------------------
+ SYNDROM still at the number one spot. Basically the music
charts are very easy to figure out these days, just look at
the top 4 how they appear to remain unchanged (except for
a few very rare movements).

* DANKO is back in form, atleast according to the voters.
RED DEVIL is getting more popular and rises to a 6th spot.
Meanwhile A-MAN moves down together with JEFF, and EVS
moves out completely. This month COMPOD returns to the
chart, while there is still no sign of talented SHARK/REGINA.
BEST CRACKING GROUP - AUGUST 1994 [Illegal Chart]

  POS. L.POS. GROUP NAME.. POINTS
---------------------------------------------
   1 (1) SCS+TRC 75
   2 (7) TRSI+DYTEC 68
   3 (4) AVANTGARDE 54
   4 (3) TALENT 51
   5 (2) ALPHA FLIGHT 47
   6 (5) CHROMANCE 44
   7 (6) MOTIV 8 26
   8 (10) LEGEND 23
   9 (8) TRIAD 21
   10 (-) FAIRLIGHT 14
---------------------------------------------
+ SUCCESS and TRC, the greatest co-operation today. Now
they meet aggresive competition in the form of another great
co-operation, TRSI+DYTEC who move up 5 places. This could
turn out to be quite interesting.

* ALPHA FLIGHT must have pushed the wrong button going
into the chart lift. They ought to do better in the charts.
LEGEND is moving up again a bit after they have shown some
sign of life lately, while FAIRLIGHT rejoins its competitors
in the charts. EXCESS was pushed out to make room.
BEST CRACKERS - AUGUST 1994 [Illegal Chart]

  POS. L.POS. SCENERS NAME... POINTS
---------------------------------------------
   1 (3) BURGLAR/SCS+TRC 76
   2 (2) JACK ALIEN/AVANTGARDE 61
   3 (1) POWERPLANT/LEGEND 56
   - (4) HAIN/F4CG 56
   5 (6) COUNT ZERO/TALENT 43
   6 (5) DERBYSHIRE RAM/AVT 43
   7 (7) BACCHUS/FAIRLIGHT 26
   8 (10) XXX/LEGEND 16
   9 (-) BOD/TALENT 15
   10 (-) SUPREME/ALPHA FLIGHT 15
---------------------------------------------
+ Open your champagne bottles, we are finally rid of the ever
so inactive POWERPLANT, and BURGLAR was the man to
overthrow him (look at his points, amazing). JACK ALIEN
stays put, and probably wont go any further.

* XXX moves up the chart, and BOD is back on the sheets
filling space that ought to be spent on others. BOD even
stated that he did not understand why people still voted for
him, so hold that pen until he starts releasing again. The
visit from DARKLORD and CHRYSAGON was short, they went.
BEST MAGAZINES - AUGUST 1994 [Overall Chart]

  POS. L.POS. MAGAZINE NAME... POINTS
---------------------------------------------
   1 (2) THE PULSE/REGINA 70
   2 (3) SKYHIGH/OXYRON 68
   3 (1) NITRO/EXCESS 62
   4 (4) ING.BRAIN/EQUINOXE 54
   5 (5) SPLASH/ACCURACY 47
   6 (8) NETWORK/COMIC PIRATES 27
   - (9) REVEALED/CAMELOT 27
   8 (6) REFORMATION/FAIRLIGHT 25
   9 (10) UPDATE/PADUA 21
   10 (7) JAMAICA 12
---------------------------------------------
+ We have a brand new holder of the crown, THE PULSE from
REGINA. NITRO was booted off the top after a very long reign
without any possible substitudes.

* INGENIOUS BRAIN stormed the charts last month, and though
we destined it to just be a one time event, they have proven
us wrong with yet another fine position.

* PROPAGANDA will return very soon, and REVEALED seems
to move up eventhough it has not been released for a while.
BEST SWAPPERS - AUGUST 1994 [Overall Charts]

  POS. L.POS. SCENERS NAME... POINTS
---------------------------------------------
   1 (1) CALYPSO/AMNESIA 88
   2 (2) SPLATTERHEAD/CHROMANCE 66
   3 (7) TABASCO/FAIRLIGHT 42
   4 (5) DERBYSHIRE RAM/AVT 41
   5 (4) NIGHTSHADE/SCS+TRC 36
   6 (8) ACIDCHILD/TABOO 30
   7 (-) KBS/REGINA 24
   8 (3) LEECH/COMIC PIRATES 20
   9 (-) NED 18
   10 (-) STARLIGHT/EXTACY 16
---------------------------------------------
+ CALYPSO is still very much unbeatable. It seems as if he
has gotten to be some kind of cult-figure in the scene, but
either way it earns him more points than anyone else.

* TABASCO is this months highest mover, moving into the top
3 putting a bit of fire underneath SPLATTERHEAD. Other
remarkable events this month, would be the introductions of
KBS and NED to the charts. Meanwhile STARLIGHT is back in
the charts, but not a dangerous position for her this time. A
lot of people come and go, BIZARRE, DR.KAOS and CASH went.

quite odd when you think of the fact that FAIRLIGHT does not
obtain even one # 1 spot in any of the charts.

summer. They may move further, and looks to be the only group
able to rock FAIRLIGHT off its position.

     + NATIONAL DEMO TEAMS - A NEW REVOLUTION +
    ----------------------------------------
The demo scene has been through a lot since the first demo
showed up in the beginning of the 80's. It has gone where no
man thought, even dreamed, it could go. But now that we have
reached the final chapters of what has been a great era, it
is time we introduce ssomething new and revolutionary to give
the scene new inspiration to go even further.

It has become a popular thing for some, to arrange demos
made by several different groups from all kinds of nations
all over the world. This has been seen the last couple of
years to the joy of all demo fans. But using this idea, and
changing some of the rules, we could have a new idea to get
more demos out of the desert the scene has become.

This new phenomenon is already practised with great success
in the real world. It may not have been realised in the world
of computers, but in sports and other national events it is
quite popular and a way to help everyone come to a global
understanding. I predict most of you already know what I am
talking about. I am talking about the national teams, built
out of the absolute elite in the area it concerns.

                                     ------
The current state of todays demo-scene is definitely nothing
to brag about, clearly there are too few demos to match the
demand which is still very high. Building national teams would
increase todays number of demos, and help meet the demand.

Most countries in Europe already have a lot of strong demo
teams, even Australia is beginning to show talent and will to
be a part of the finest. We see this as a great opportunity to
increase the interest in all of the countries, and where there
is a will - there is a way.
- -- --- ---- ---- ----------- ----- ---- --- -- -
Let me introduce to you all my idea, and how I propose we
could realise this plan.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
World Of Demos would set up an international jury consisting
of respected and established names within the demo scene.
This jury would be devided up in two sections, one for each
of the current two possible demo continents in the world.
The first section would represent the nations of Europe,
this one called UEDA (United European Demo Association).
The second section would represent Australia, this one is
called ADA (Australian Demo Association).

                - Please Continue -
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
Both of these associations would be controled by a third
section, this one taking care of all arrangements and the
finding of new members of the associations. This section
would be called UIDA (United International Demo Association).
UIDA will take charge of the whole operation, making sure it
will run without any difficulties and it gets the amount of
publicity it deserves.

UIDA will consist of a General Director, who will be the one
responsible of the intire operation. He will also have power
to make changes within UEDA and ADA. Furthermore this
association will contain the two General Directors from both
UEDA and ADA. The General Director of UIDA will be elected
by the sceners in an open worldwide opinion poll held by
WORLD OF DEMOS. This poll will show up once this whole plan
has been discussed throughout the world, and the public
has said their verdict. The General Director of UIDA would
then have authorisation to elect the General Directors to
be of UEDA and ADA. Finally, every year there would be held
an opinion poll to elect the coming General Director of UIDA.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
That was an introduction of the leading associations. Now I
will introduce and explain the system of the national sections
and how we start this operation.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
As mentioned before, the members of the UEDA and ADA also
functions as a jury. This jury is supposed to decide whom is
to be the leaders of national team. These are called the
NATIONAL SUPERVISORS, meaning they have to supervise
the intire demo team also put together by him. This person
is found by a voting within the jury, thereby making it a
democratic and fair decision.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
The NATIONAL SUPERVISOR's job is to survey his country,
and contact the best coders, graphicians and musicians and
put them together to one great national side. There are some
rules he has to go by, though.

* The NATIONAL TEAM has to release a demo once every year.
* Every demo has to include more than 5 demo parts.
* The NATIONAL TEAM has to include atleast 2 Programmers,
2 Graphicians and 1 Musicians, but is not allowed to have
more than 4 Programmers, 4 Graphicians and 3 Musicians.
* The NATIONAL SUPERVISOR is obliged to report all changes
within the NATIONAL TEAM to the associasion of which his
nation belong, no later than 30 days after the changes
   occour.

If the NATIONAL SUPERVISOR breaches any of the above
written rules, he will be replaced by someone else.
During the past couple of pages, you have now been given
the opportunity to get a detailed insight on my plan for a
whole new dimension in the demo scene. I hope you have
worked up a couple of ideas as you read through the text,
and that you will send your reaction so that we can begin
a healthy debate before we put the NATIONAL TEAMS into
worldwide action.

I hope everyone who agrees with my plan will get in touch
with me as soon as possible, I would like to know how good
(or bad) the plan really is. You will be able to write to me
at the address displayed in PREFACE.

I would like to underline, that the basic reason for working
with a plan like this one, is to get more demos through the
almost empty system. It will also give a bit of competition
between the nations, just imagine how Germany and Holland
would want to be the world champions in demo creation. This
plan has definite potential, now I just need you to conferm
your opinion about it. I would not mind if some of the other
great magazines out there would join in on this idea, would
make a great world-wide debate nonetheless.

General Editor -----
.. Summer, in the city, in the summer, in.. Ehr? Am I on! Oh,
sorry about that, but I have a pretty hard time getting back
to the keyboard after the fantastic summer we have had in
Denmark this year.
I am STEVE, and I am supposed to do some demo-reviewing now.
Only a couple of demos were released the past two months
(thank god!!), they were KLEPKA from VERMES and of course
COMA LIGHT 12 from OXYRON.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
KLEPKA by VERMES (REVIEW)
-----------------------
STEVE, about the programming:
- And let me just start by saying that I am saving the best
for last. This demo is probably as good as shagging queen
ELIZABETH would be, but then again; this is not really meant
to be a show-off code-wyze (it better not).
Basically, it's a collctionof some animated sequences. They
were allconverted from Amiga to the C64 (I recognised atleast
some of them from the program "Disney Animator") and I think
they look swell, but it is not up to me to judge the graphics.
Except for the small intro, we find a part with a huge picture
(512x400 pixels) which is scroller horizontally and vertically.
However, the resolution in which this picture is shown is only
80x50 (each "pixel" is 4x4 bits big), making the image look
rather corny. The coding is colours of a hire screen and ...
... fli'ing each 4th rasterline (Ehrm.. Ok, so that was not a
very fullfilling explanation. But there is no point in getting
into details with simple routines as this really is).
Apart from the two parts mentioned above, there is also an
interlaced plasma effect as an end part. Which I guess is
ok if you like that sort of stuff.
This is not the type of demo you will hate, but you will not
loose a nights sleep trying to figure out how it was done
either. So, rates are 40% for the coding.

NEPTUNE, about the graphics:
This demo has almost no graphics, but hey, what the hell of
a nice demo anyway. Most of the graphics are converted from
the Amiga. The 64'er drawed graphics are developed by EMIL
and HARTI. Hope to see more graphics next time, please.
I will give this one 40% for the graphics.

DRAX, about the musics:
The music a little bit old fashioned, and th intruments could
have been better. But still a decent tune, showing a lot of
potential. I believe they will do some very nice music in the
future? I give this one 73% for the musics!

COMALIGHT 12 by OXYRON (REVIEW)
----------------------------
STEVE, about the programming:
My god, do I just love these guys from their originality.
I mean - after releasing 11 demos in the same series, and you
had to come up with a new exciting, innovate, surprising,
shocking and blockbusting name for you new demo, what would
be the absolutely wildest name you could ever thing of?
COMALIGHT 12. Geez. You guys never sease to amaze me.
After saying this, I must admit that this demo has to be one of
the best I have seen for ages!! It has great design, and a
couple of new and really really great routines in it.

The intro is rather PC/Amiga inspired. Fire is simulated in the
background while introducing text pops up to the rhythm of
the music. Great coordinated! After the intro, you are
introduced to fractals (16 colours) "bended" around a sphere.
The princip is (roughly) the same as described above in the
512x400 pixel-scroller in the KLEPKA demo.
Each pixel in the sphere is huge (the size vary, but I guess
they are approximately 4x4 bits each).
Even though this is a very rough resoluting, I still think the
result is great! The visual effect is stunning.
Next in this demo is an FLI picture. But I do not care, case I
want to see more coding, so I will rush on in the demo.
After the picture, a zoom-scroller appears (like in the
recently released BYTERAPERS demo). This zoom-scroller is
somewhat better than the BYTERAPERS one, cause it is very
smooth.
But here I will just take the opportunity to say that I am not
impressed, even though some people seem to think zoom-
scrollers are a revolution. They are no harder to code than
ordinary zoomers, so it is not that big a deal. Still, I cannot
stop wondering why it took people so long to come up with
this idea, considering how old the zoomer idea is. But hey,
who am I to talk - I am just a journalist and not a coder -
(I just pretend to be.. Heheh!).
The next part (oh.. Let me just say that this is a trackmo,
so it is not really "the next part", it is just the demo
continuing) is very PC inspired, and great.
Those of you who do not know; bitmap rotating (around the
Z-axis) is really "in" these days, and this is exactly what
OXYRON tries to emulate. Again using the 4x4 bits pixel
princip, they are able to update a 16-colour pattern on a ...
... large area of the screen. Again, it looks chunky, but
nevertheless really cool. Ya gotta see it.
After this, a filled hiresbox with lightsource appears. This
rquirs a lot of calculating and drawing, and it is therefore
really slow. Too slow, in my opinion.
(If I seem a little distant, it is because I am at NEPTUNE's
place, and when the sun disappears out here in no mans land,
all kinds of wierd animals seem to party hardy right outside
the window. For instance, we just witnessed two gigantic frogs
in what could seem as some sort of mating-act. Perhaps you
can imagine that would be slightly disturbing!?! Oh well, back
to what I was doing..).
OXYRON managed to use the huge-pixel princip for yet
another effect. This time they were obviously inspired by the
PC game of all times: DOOM. The effect is a 3D invironment,
in which you move around. The idea is, once again, neat, but
the actual rsult does not looks as good as the othe effects.
The final effect (the end screen) is a C64 conversion of the
wellknown dancers from the SPACEBALLS demo "STATE OF
THE ART" (Amiga). Unfortunately (!) the OXYRON dancer
seems to be a guy (Yuark!), but the animation looks really
coool.
All in all, I was impressed.
Rating: 80% for the programming!

NEPTUNE, about the graphics:
Here we have ye another OXYRON demo, they seem to be
quite active. There are graphics by ASMODIS, BIZKID and
RRR. Those three artists represent OXYRON in their very
own way and style, some may like it, others not. Personally I
think it is cool. The demo contains some outstanding full
screen pictures and logo's. To talk about BIZKID's graphics,
looking at his art, you can see the freedom he allows himself
when drawing. It is cool to see the way he plays around with
the effects. I will give this one 73% for the graphics!

DRAX, about the musics:
Atleast some GOOD music, and it cannot surprise anyone that
it came from PRI. This music is simply magnificent. Especially
the note music is quite a pleasure to listen to, although
there is some few mistakes (in my opinion).
Nice braks, nice chords, nice bassline. He is really a very
creative musician with a lot of knowledge of music theory.
(At least, I guess so). 91% for the musics!

GRAPHIC REVIEWS by NEPTUNE
------------------------
Hello dear readers, this month we have 5 outstanding
competition pictures, a "logo-collection" by SMD and a
bitmap picture by KRING of CAMELOT. Well, how this picture
"Hagenkreuz" ever came out, I do not know, as I confronted
the picture with RAZ of CAMELOT, who claimed the picture
appears to have been spread without knowing.

I hope the efforts for my review's in THE PULSE will lead to
a fuller understanding of the 64ers greatest artists. One
traditional element these days, is the emphasis on copying
works of grat paint-brush painters like BORIS, but let's go
on and not confront this subject here.

WINNING COMPETITION PICTURE by CRUISE/ESM
------------------------------------
This picture won the ELYSIUM + ANTIA party in Poland, and
to judge from the 64er standard, there is no doubt that this
picture is one of the best ECI-HIRES-FLI ever done. The
reason I am saying so is that CRUISE has made his colours
very smooth and used only the colour mix to build up in terms
of the pixel structure, it makes harmoni between colours in
a natural way. The picture is quite hard to describe, but
nevertheless, I saw an outstanding beautiful girl ,,,
... surrounded by well dragons or monsters from hell or
whatever, and in the lower right corner a head of a man.
RATING : 98% for the picture.

2ND PLACE PICTURE by WAYNE/TABOO
------------------------------
This can hardly be the best ECI screen this month, but anyway
this type of picture is to be connected with paintings of
photo's. We see here a tiger, the colours in the motiv are
more strongly outlined compared to the atmosphere. In my
opinion, this picture need soft colours. Light, some very
rich, painterly pixel strokes would put some magic into the
art, but still by maintaining the reality which sure is the
first impression that stroke me when I saw it.
RATING : 78% for the picture.

3R PLACE PICTURE by HARTI/VERMES
-----------------------------
WAYNE has sure had the imagination here. Here we have great
bright colours combined with images-mixing (like the AD&D
picture ROB of CAMELOT did for the Herning party) which
creates a very wild, but still intimate scene. Whether or not
WAYNE chose to put the face of the girl together with a
space-ship, simply because it may have been an exotic motiv,
presents an interesting question. RATING : 85%.
4TH PLACED PICTURE by ASTAR/AGONY
-------------------------------
The picture here is the dignity of old style, ASTAR is
lyrical in his effects, but the colours does not seem to
harmony and rich in texture. Hey, anyway, this motiv is hard
to draw, and even harder to draw in it, bitmap would have
been nicer in AFLI. ASTAR has made a really great job here,
and the motiv is of some Vikings I guess.
RATING : 70% for the picture.

5TH PLACED PICTURE by HARTI/VERMES
-------------------------------
Gheee, GIF's on 64er. Naa, guess not. In this picture is a
certain part of a lady-girl, some really strange colours are
used. Not much to write here really. Great idea! I must say
perhaps the picture could use a bit more drawings, but hey,
what do I know anyway?
RATING : 73% for the picture.

HAGENKREUZ by KRING/CAMELOT
--------------------------
Woops, CAMELOT reviewing CAMELOT (heh, KRING). Well,
let me put one thing straight: It looks like SHIT (No, just
kidding!). As I know KRING, I also know that he is very fond
of "industrial whatever". I must say that he really got away
with this. The motiv is a man getting crucifyed on a swastika.
KRING has made some really great shadows on the man's body.
One thing I missed though, was a bit three dimentional effects
on the swastika. Nevertheless a cool picture from a CAMEL
brother. RATING : 79% for the picture.

FLOWER 6 by SMD
--------------
Here we have a graphic collection done by SDM. The collection
contains nearly only logo's, but hey they are really nice.
It's quite hard to write about logo's, so I will make this a
short one. SMD is one of the few persons who is able to really
blend and mix colours in bitmap, which gives a really cool
effect, eventhough I saw some mirrored and "Graphic
recycling". It's a really nice collection, but also a bit
boring. RATING : 70% for the collection.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
Without further delay, we move on to the music reviews done
by your usual critic, DRAX of VIBRANTS. This month we have
as stated in the beginning of WORLD OF DEMOS, a lot of
single musics as well as some music-collections.

Make sure to send us your latest music-collections, DRAX will
review them monthly in WORLD OF DEMOS.
                                       -----
1ST PLACE MUSIC by EMIL/VERMES
---------------------------
We start off with the winning music from the ELYSIUM + ANTIA
party in Poland. This one has very original compute music,
shows that he dare trying other styles than th usual computer
tune style. Also his chords reveal that he has got potential,
I am certainly looking forward to hearing more from him in the
future. Somehow the music sounds like it has been composed
on a Piano or a Synth at first, and then converted to the C64.
RATING : 71% for the music.

2ND PLACE MUSIC by CLEVE
----------------------
This music really sucks, no surprises, nothing new to be found
except for a boring leader and bass. The sounds are not that
impressive, do not convert such fucking crap. I hate this kind
of music, but that does not mean that you may not find it okay!
RATING : 34% for the music.

3RD PLACE MUSIC by SHOGOON/AGONY
------------------------------
Typical computer-style with some nasty filter-clicks, but still
there is a sweet melodi in it, and he tries to variate the
music very successfully. This piece is much better than the
other pieces I have heard from him. RATING : 62%.
EARGAMS 2 by EXCESS
------------------
The music is definitely nothing special. It's boring, and has
not got any surprising moments at all. Filterclicks seem to
be one of todays most popular things, since almost everyone
uses it. I guess it means that the quality of music has
decreased rapidly the last two years. Well, the general
impression of the music is: Boredom!
RATING : 52% for the collection.

OPERA OMNIA 3 by ANTIC
-------------------
This time I think ZYRON has done quite a remarkable job,
the sounds are much better than they used to be. The best
two pieces at this ten-pack, must be nr. 5 and 7. They are
both very melodious and atmospheric.
RATING : 76% for the collection.

CHOCK'S MUSIC 3 by CHOCK
---------------------
Stop those fucking filterclicks, otherwise I will waste my
vomitus, but why does music have to sound so alike. Not that
many people manage to do that. You guys try using other
scales than the usual. "This music stinks like diapers".
ROGER RABBIT? RATING : 45% for the collection.
MOOG MUSIC PACK 3 by MOOG
----------------------
Various pieces of music-styles, but still not executed well
enough. But he has got his own style, which I like very much.
He is not as conservative like many other C64-composers
today. Some nice sounds, especially in "CRAZY MUSIC".
Well done! RATING : 75% for the collection.

MAD NOISES by ATLANTIS
--------------------
Maybe I should start a federation against filter-clicks. I
hate them, I wanna blow my escrements all over them. if I
don't stop listening to those stinking clicks (is it even
possible?). You will find some okay moments in this music
though, this music was made by SNAP and SKULL, including
two pieces from HP/OFFENCE. I really do not know what to
say about all this music. RATING : 69% for the collection.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
That concludes this edition of WORLD OF DEMOS. We will
return next month, hopefully with a couple of more demos than
this time (so get busy out there).

Stay safe!

Special assignment 1

SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT - INFORMATION AND DEBATE
 -------------------------------------------
Welcome to another edition of SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT. This
edition is larger than any we have had the privelidge of
releasing before, simply due to the fact that we have four
points on this months agenda, so let us get started.

* THE OFFICIAL OPINION POLL RESULTS
As stated above, this is the freshly voted opinion polls,
a new and special addition to SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT.

* THE SCENE DIVISION
An article written by General Editor, DUKE. The main topic
of this article, is whether or not the scene should be
divided in catagories.

* SOCIALISM IN THE SCENE
An opinion article written by CROSSFIRE/MOTIV 8. This is
a follow-up to last editions main topic about Socialism in
the scene.

* THE INTERNET CORNER
MASON/MOTIV 8 returns with a huge report about the major
net, known as the Internet. As always he will teach about
different terms, useful to those planning to use this system!
+ OFFICIAL OPINION POLLS RESEARCH +
        --------------------------------
We return with the result of last months 4 opinion polls,
which was officially spread along with THE PULSE MAGAZINE.
We have decided to make a different approach from now on
though, as we will install a poll-both on our American board
THE EVIL ISLAND, making sure to get the answers from those
who call the US as well.

This month we mainly recieved answers from people within the
mail-scene, which is one of the reasons why the answers may
only represent the opinion of a few types of sceners. But all
this will change now that everyone has the opportunity to
take place in the worlds largest opinion poll in the scene.

Mail your answers to the following address:

THE PULSE MAGAZINE
ALEX HYLKE
VALMUEMARKEN 34
9000 AALBORG
DENMARK

Now follows the results of the polls. 23 sceners placed their
votes. Read GLOBAL REPORT for the new polls!
POLL # 1
-------
What in your opinion is the most important factor in terms
of keeping the C64-scene alive?
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
     1. The Demos 48 Percent
     2. The Magazines 17 Percent
     -. The Games 17 Percent
     4. The Boards 9 Percent
-. None Of Them 9 Percent
     6. The Broken Disks 0 Percent

- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
There was absolutely no doubt in the voters mind what kept
the scene going. It could be due to the large amount of legal
voters though, but I still believe the scene would be nothing
without the great demos still being produced. The magazines
share the 2nd place with the games, I guess that was quite
predictable.

It is very good to know that the voters took this poll
serious, by not voting for "The Broken Disks", which would
clearly have indicated they did not care about the poll. I am
very happy about that, another step towards perfect
readerinteraction for the magazines.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
POLL # 2
-------
What in your opinion is the best thing about THE PULSE
MAGAZINE?
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
     1. The News 26 Percent
     -. The Demo/Graphics Reviews 26 Percent
     3. The Satiric Stories 22 Percent
     4. The Release-Charts 13 Percent
     5. The Debates 9 Percent
     6. The Board Reports 4 Percent
     7. Nothing Is Worth Mentioning 0 Percent
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
NEWS JOURNAL and WORLD OF DEMOS are just as prefered
for the voters, with a surprising 3rd place to our own invented
SATIRICA. We still have to take into consideration that a
large number of the voters are legal ONLY, one of the reasons
why MONTHLY RELEASES and the BOARD REPORT made so
surprisingly few votes.

News is apparently still one of the most important parts of
a magazine, which shows that most sceners are clearly very
interested in knowing what is going on in the scene they are
a part of. Which is positive for the scene.

POLL # 3
-------
What is your favourite magazine?
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
     1. THE PULSE MAGAZINE/REGINA 35 Percent
     2. SKYHIGH/OXYRON 26 Percent
     3. REVEALED/CAMELOT 17 Percent
     4. None Of Them 9 Percent
     5. REFORMATION/FAIRLIGHT 4 Percent
     -. PROPAGANDA/GENESIS PROJECT 4 Percent
     -. VANDALISM NEWS/SCS+TRC 4 Percent
     8. NEWS PRESS/REBELS 0 Percent
     9. NITRO/EXCESS 0 Percent
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
The magazine chart looks quite similar to the general charts
in more magazines these days, only NITRO got no points here.
THE PULSE at first place, with SKYHIGH as second best
magazine. REVEALED with a lot of points, and the other
major magazines with quite few points.

We realise this poll was not quite fair, due to the fact that
not all magazines were represented. But the fact that only
9 percent prefered other magazines than the ones posted
in the poll, is a sign that we included the most popular mags.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
POLL # 4
-------
What kind of party would you prefer to go to in the future?
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
     1. PC/C64 Party 30 Percent
     2. C64 Party 26 Percent
     3. Amiga/PC/C64/Ams/SNES Party 18 Percent
     4. Amiga/PC/C64 Party 17 Percent
     5. Amiga/C64 Party 9 Percent
     6. None Of Them 0 Percent
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
This poll should give a clear look, at how popular the GENESIS
PROJECT party in November could become. Most people prefer
another computer along with the C64 at parties, but in general
a lot of people are longing for a pure C64 party. The poll also
clearly states, that the GENESIS PROJECT party can expect
many more visitors than the Danish parties has had in the
previous years. Very revealing poll!!
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
We will return next month in SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT with the
results of the next official opinion poll. We have no doubt
the next polls will get much more attention, and therefore we
will have more reliable results to work with. The polls for
this month is posted in GLOBAL REPORT.

+ THE SCENE DIVISION - THEORY IN PRACTICE +
      ---------------------------------------
Speaking of newcomers, socialism, middle class sceners and
elite as well as so-called elite, we move on to another
similar discussion.

The class phenomena is still a very hot topic most people seem
to have different opinions on, a big share do not even care
about it - and probably never did or will. Nevertheless we
would like to suggest a special chart which reflects the
status of the sceners and their position in the 64-scene.

The chart is made out of divisions, such as we know it from
various sorts of sports (eg. Football, etc.). This scene chart
is made out of 10 different divisions, ranging from Division 1
(the absolute elite) down to Division 10 (the outcasts of the
scene). This division system also protects the newcomers,
giving them a division of their own, excluding them from being
called lamers unless they move down a division or two.

The following pages will give a discription of the divisions,
giving you an idea of which one you belong.

                                      -----

Please Note: The Status Chart of the 64 Scene will work for
all Cracking, Demo, Graphics, Music, Fixing and Magazine
groups currently active in the scene.

* 1ST DIVISION
The very finest division, and by far the most prestigious one
to belong to. This division contains all the top of the chart
groups; this meaning the ones frequently active in the top 5
of the majority of the charts in the scene magazines.

* 2ND DIVISION
The second best division in the chart system, this one
housing the groups who are frequently active in the top 10
of the majority of the magazine charts.

* 3RD DIVISION
The third division contains the groups who are sometimes
actual in the top 10 charts, and is known to have a good
quality label.

* 4TH DIVISION
The fourth division is the home of the less aggresive groups,
rarely active in the top 10 charts. These groups are known to
be better than average.

* 5TH DIVISION
In the fifth division belongs the average groups, who are
known to be steady. These groups are not normal visitors
in the charts, and they rarely get remarkable reactions.

* 6TH DIVISION
The sixth division is the home of the groups who are known
to be below average in what they do. They are not very known.

* 7TH DIVISION
The seventh division is the groups who are through being
beginners, and just about to get a hang of it. They are still
not known, and their products are not worth to mention.

* 8TH DIVISION
The eight division is the home of the newcomers and totally
unknown and inexperienced groups.

* 9TH DIVISION
The ninth division consists of the so-called lamers, the ones
who claim they can do things, but cannot.

* 10TH DIVISION
The last division consists of the outcasts. The worst scum in
the scene, the ones having broken the un-written laws.
The divisions have now been described to you all, and it is
now up to you individually if you want to go by them. We at
The PULSE are of the firm opinion, that we need to protect
and defend all of our scene heritages, and the class system
is most definitely one of them. Even in the real world we are
told how "nobody gets something for nothing". We have to
work hard to get a good reputation, and even harder to reach
the top which will be rewarded with respect and glory.

Please note: before you start exerting the division system,
that the before mentioned explanations may have different
interpretations, and therefore it could be difficult to decide
what division you belong to first-hand. Therefore we would
like to urge anyone who has any questions about the system
charts or if you want to add or react to the system, please
feel free to write to us giving us your honest and objective
opinion. We would be delighted with any response we get.

This month in GLOBAL REPORT, you will also be able to see
a contriversial opinion poll concerning this topic. We advice
you to send us your answer to that poll, as well as the other
polls this month, giving room for a special debate about the
answer for next months edition of SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT.

DUKE (General Editor) -----
SOCIALISM - KILL IT BEFORE IT KILLS THE SCENE!
        - Opinion Article Written By CROSSFIRE/MOTIV8 -
      ---------------------------------------
After having read DUKE's splendid article in the last issue of
THE PULSE MAGAZINE, I just feel I have a few things to add.
Socialism has entered the scene, which causes anyone, even
small kids who just bought their computer, to strongly believe
in them being just as "cool" (a term I hate using, but here it
is anyway!) as the ELITE-groups.
I feel a STRONG need to ask the question: WHERE IS THE RE-
SPECT these newcommers owes to the ELITE-crackers of to-
day? Most people doesn't realize, that the elite-crackers/
groups of today is the ones who have EARNED the honour to
wear this ELITE-label on them, and quite frankly, it is making
me SICK to my GUTT seing 15-year old's boosting their big ego,
the ego they don't deserve that is, by bad-mouthing the few in
the scene who made it to elite-status, out of pure jealousy.
I could give you examples on some of the worst bigmouths, but
it isn't relevant, since the scene is FILLED with these wanna-
bee's. You got to earn your elite-status, no one becomes elite
just because they are in an elite-group, you have to prove
INDIVIDUALLY to be worthy of bearing the elite-shield on your
chest! A lot of people uses the opportunity to gain attention
on behalf of others, because they think they are WORTHY,
when they join a major group as e.g. a mail-trader.
When I started in the scene back in 1986, I admired all the
major groups at that time, such as DYNAMIC DUO, and as time
passed on, DOMINATORS, IKARI, PAPILLONS, FUSION and all
the other old legendary giants.
I was petrofied from even trying to contact any of them for
trading, and when I finally pulled myself together, none of
them replied. It was first in 1988 when I joined a famous demo-
group from Denmark named NOISE (formed by legends of today
like MADUPLEC, MITCH and TRICKET), that these people
decided to reply my sendings.
My point is, just because you can code and crack and you are
in a group, it does NOT make you ELITE in ANY WAY! Very FAR
from it, actually! I have heard about a case lately about two
groups which will both remain nameless. Let us just call them
group A and group B, to avoid offending anyone.
Group A had been alive for years, but never really earned the
regognition they actually deserved, till one day where the
leader of this group decided that now it was time to do some-
thing about it. Group A got a couple of decent crackers, and
started releasing heaps of cracks (DECENT versions!).
One day Group B is formed, and in pure jealousy, they started
nagging on group A, claiming eg. their cracks were FREEZED,
although both parties knew it was untrue. Being offended this
way, group A ofcause took offence and a minor war started.
                                           -Next Page!-
Group A had a kind of distribution-deal with a group C, and
group B knew this and threatened by involving group C in it.
Group C is an ELITE-group consisting of ELITE-members, and
since group A is 2nd rate, and group B isn't even 3rd rate,
group C got pissed, and the only thing that kept them from
going to war with group B was their QRIDE, meaning they would
not lower themselves to group B's standard, unless it was
very necessary.
The people in the three groups will know that I AM referring to
them as they read this.
Let's just say, that group B is an UNKNOWN beginner-group
from Germany, and let's (hopefully for THEM!) leave it by that!
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
This was just to state how little respect the newcommers has
for the elite-groups. They just don't seem to understand the
difference, but the difference is: ELITE's are ESTABLISHED
and famous people who has ALL proven themselves worthy of
wearing the elite-badge.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
In an earlier issue of THE PULSE, a reader send in a reaction,
stating "we are all the same!".. WRONG - DEAD WRONG!!! We're
NOT all the same! This is the attitude newcommers has got, but
it is WRONG! There's THREE positions in the scene: Lame, 2'nd
rate (middle) and elite. So many is lame and 2'nd rate but only
VERY few is ELITE, and just being able to crack a one-file
game is FAR from enough!!!
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
What causes this, is the march-in of socialism in the scene
which has been blooming the last few years, and the mega-
trading trend that started, only to bribe contacts for votes.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
How would YOU like it, if you had been fighting hard to gain
elite-status, maybe even for YEARS, and a little lamer who
just got his computer as a christmas-present last year and
entered the scene last month, came up to you and said you
were lame? EXACTLY!!! I think you would ALL be darn PISSED!
Socialism has destroyed all the old aspects the scene once
stood for: Respect for the big groups and pride in being elite.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
I've spoken to a lot of people who feels the same way on this
topic that I do, therefore it would be JOYFULL to see all the
groups who considers themselves worthy of the ELITE-title
to simply unite and CRUSH socialism in the scene. Thinking
of the respect I had for my old "idols" which brought me into
the scene, cause I wanted to try what it was like. Instead, I
got the opputunity at a time where everybody, that being both
worthy and un-worthy, thinks they can take liberties that
they in reality do not have AT ALL!
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -

Another serious factor is, that nearly all elite-groups of
today has one or even as some groups, several mailtraders,
who trades with everybody, lamers as well as elite sceners.
A lot of newcommer's are SERIOUSLY misguided by this. Just
the fact, that you mailtrade with a swapper in an elite-group
does NOT (!!!) make you ANYTHING in particular!!!
Be careful not to get it wrong, these mailtraders aren't keep-
ing touch with you cause they think you are cool, but simply to
get their wares spread in the mail-scene and to gain votes in
the charts of all the 2'nd-rate mags around these days. The
fact, that people STILL votes for groups like ILLUSION and
LEGEND, who is either dead or very inactive, not to mention
single crackers like BOD, XXX, POWERPLANT, and many more
old elite-crackers who haven't done ANYTHING for the last
year, only proves my point!!! People plain don't know what they
vote for, and more important, WHY they vote!!!
The charts is a tribute to the active groups, which is why it
is a DISGRACE to see old groups like e.g. ILS and LEGEND still
invading top-positions in the charts, although none of them
has been active for AGES!!!
Those are the ONLY two reasons why elite-traders of today
replies to anyone who contacts them, it's not (well, not NECE-
SSARILY, atleast!) because you seem to have elite-possibili-
ties or anything, it is simply to GAIN VOTES, NOTHING ELSE!!!
Might sound like hard words, but it is as SIMPLE AS THAT!!!
Don't get me wrong here, I have nothing against the mailtrade-
scene, heck, I even used it for many years myself, and I don't
know what we would do without our very strong mail-section
here in MOTIV8, but what I am saying here is the TRUTH, and
any mailtrader who tells you differently is ei her one out of
a thousand OR a huge liar - FACT!!!
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
Getting back to the inactive crackers in the charts, I wonder
heavily, why I, myself, is still mentioned, although I haven't
done any REAL (!!!) cracks since I finished my version of the
game of 1993 - MAYHEM IN MONSTERLAND! This notice is in no
way meant to be M8-propaganda, my reason for mentioning my
own group is simply that I'll be sure to quote everything
acceptably. Well, as stated, I wonder why I am still mentioned
in the single cracker-charts' top # 10 most places, although
I haven't done anything remarkable for over 6 months, and my
highest peek of activity lies all back to the summer of 1992.
These days all bigger games cracked by MOTIV8 is being taken
on by either MASON, ICEBALL, CURLIN or PEACEMAKER, but
for a strange reason, people STILL keep voting for ME. This
does not g for MOTIV8 only, I have discovered cases that
looks a bit the same with A LOT of elite-groups these days.
As stated, my text was an EXAMPLE, and an EXAMPLE ONLY!
(OK, Niels?)..
             LOAD SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT 2

Special assignment 2

The point is, newcommers owes A LOT of respect to the old-
timers in the scene, whom without there wouldn't even BE a
scene today.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
Again, I can drag in myself as an example! Due to my shakey
past, a lot of people saw me as an easy victim when I began my
calling-out session back in late'92, but I guess a lot of
people realisez it was a huge mistake to rag on me, atleast
that is what I have been told by people on conferences, etc.
More amusing at this point though, is the fact, that the old-
timers in the scene (the few who were ACTUALLY around back
then!) doesn't seem to care about my past. Infact, the only
ones to care was the newcommers who saw me as easy prey
and tried to use that thing, which indeed is very PATHETIC,
since so many things from back then STILL have not been cle-
ared. The thing is, the few that still cares and still tends to
try and use it, is the newcommers who wasn't even around when
these things happened. They have heard from their friends
what happened, but the few that DID watch it happen 5 years
ago doesn't care much about it nowadays. It is just another
example of how newcommers feels superior from the day they
get their computer. I am not selfrightous in any way about
the past. I have admitted what I did back then, and that is
probably why elite do not care. But I REALLY do not think I
owe newcommers ANYTHING, infact it is more like the opposite!
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
Make sure you got it right, you are NOT an old-timer in the
scene if you've been in it for 3 years. To be an old-timer, you
have to have been around for ATLEAST 6 years (good example
is people like POWERPLANT, BOD, SOLAR, XXX, WESTBAM,
etc.). Infact, if you have been in the scene less than 3 years
you are STILL classified as a newcommer! Do not get me wrong
at this, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with the massive
amount of new people entering the scene, but these people
really DOES owe A LOT of respect to the old and established
groups in the scene.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
I know all elite-groups/people will agree with with me on my
point of views on the matter, and it is CLEAR to us all, that
if anyone DISAGREES, it is because THEY are apart of the
crowd, trying to gain fame the FAST and EASY way!
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
Make no mistake, there IS no fast way of becoming elite! Lots
of people have tried, but sooner or later it ALWAYS backfires
for them, sometimes VERY hard! There is a tradition in the
scene to climb the stairs with patience and then one day when
they are at the top, they find themselves being elite. There is
ABSOLUTELY NO other way of doing it. As said there is the
quick way, but we wouldn't urge anyone to take use of it, as
it has been tried many times before and seriously backfired!
So how do you seperate elite-groups from 2nd rate groups?
Well, it is indeed very simple. The elite-groups in the crack-
ing-scene is the ones that keeps popping up in the release-
charts month after month after (...), plus an additional few
oldies added that doesn't do as much anylonger as they did
in the past, such like e.g. TALENT, LEGEND & F4CG who still
manages to pop up at times with something decent. To conclude
who is the demo-elite is A BIT harder, but it is, to keep it
in easy-to-understand perspective, the ones who manages to do
demo's with revolutionary code, great looking design and new
idea's, such like the latest demo from BYTERAPERS INC. a few
months back. Other examples is definitely OXYRON & CREST!!!
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
I'm fully aware of the fact, that CERTAIN people who reads
this will think I'm selfish, arrogant and quite generally an
enourmous arsehole, but that doesn't bother me. Fact is, I am
not in the scene to gain friends, because I have already more
than my share in my private life - but it is because I "love"
and 64-scene, and also the reason why I have stayed active
on it. I did, however, gain a lot of friens in the scene, but
I consider this a bonus-thing followed as time passed by.
TRUE, I have made a lot of enemies too, but as stated earlier,
I do not care ONE bit! I am trying to bring back the good old
scene-values the C64 had in the past, no matter WHAT the
cost may be. I am simply SICK of wanna-be's.

THE WORLD OF INTERNET by MASON/MOTIV 8
   ---------------------------------------
Well, welcome to another chapter in the serie of internet ar-
ticles. This time the subjects will be:

How to get an anonymous mail-address, how to make illegal
FTP-sites and what is an archie! We will also give you
more info about the problems for TG-ACME/MOTIV 8 and
SAURON/ILLUSION. Here we will take up the subject about
your root rights to read your personal mail.

Before we start the show I have some important info for you!
In the future you have to write to a new internet address. So
write down this new address:

              an98861-anon.penet.fi
                -----------------
Throw the old one away, because I will get a new internet addy
very soon! The new internet address will only be public for my
internet-friends, PULSE writers and MOTIV8 members.

You will also have to use this address if you have any good
questions about internet! Right now I am trying to let my root
get an address special for THE PULSE MAGAZINE. Be sure to
check it out in the next edition..
WHAT IS AN ARCHIE?
---------------
As told in the first articles in this serie most of the inter-
net-users are connected to the net via their education place
of their work (Soon CROSSFIRE & DUKE will be there too).
Some of the educations places/firms runs a service called
ARCHIE. ARCHIE is a service where you can search for files,
not only their own FTP-site, but they got updated to their
file-database from many FTP-sites! There are two ways to
search for files! The first method is called exact-search,
and the second is called sub-search..
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
EXACT-SEARCH
------------
With this method you can search in the file-database after an
exact word! In search after the word "C64", you will only get
the dirs or files called C64, not the file called "C 64" or
something like that. This method is a very fast search method.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
SUB-SEARCH
----------
Here you search in the file-database with a part of the word
or a letter in the word. If you search after the word fx.
"COMMODORE" you will get all the files called "commodore"
                                      ------
and you will get all the files/directories called something
with the word "Commodore"! This method is very slow, because
the archie search-program will try to look after all the com-
binations of the word.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
Now I can guess your question. How do I get connected to an
archie! Hm - nice question!

Here you have to use TELNET (If you don't know much about
about telnet you can find earlier issues of PULSE or send a
letter to me with the questions and I will try to answer them)
and login under archie. Here we give you 3 good archies:

              telnet archie.luth.se
              telnet archie.funet.fi
            telnet archie.rutgers.edu

In the next issue will get a list of archies and other good
places where you can telnet to. If you have any questions
about archie send me a letter on:

             an98861-anon.penet.fi
               -----------------

                   Next Page!
HOW TO GET AN ANONYMOUS MAIL-ADDRESS:
---------------------------------
Hey wake up! Stop dreaming! No you can't use the anonymous
address, when you're using TELNET or FTP! This is only a
mail-address. Now you are thinking why should you get an
anonymous mail-address?

We have look back at the C64-scene in the middle of the 80s.
The problem in german were that if you send letters with disks
and get fines from the post-office, because of "missing"
stamps the german post told the police that the person were
doing illegal computer-activies! So the german scene people
must use PLK-addresses. When they used PLK-addresses the
post-office didn't knew their private post-address so it was
not easy to find the cracker.

We have the same problem on internet. FBI uses a lot of time
on the internet searching for porno pictures and pirate
wares. When we write comments in the talk dirs we have to
place a mail-address and if you place your private mail-adress
you will maybe be busted when FBI find the FTP-site. They
can't find you when you're using an anonymous address.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
                  -Next Page!-
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
First a short description of how the anonymous mail-system
works.

When you send a letter to an anonymous address you will send
to the server in Finland. Here will root or a person from the
staff send the letter to the owner of the anonymous address.
The service is double-blind anonymous service so you have
to leave your mail-addy somewhere in the letter, because
when fx. I get an letter from a person the root/staff person
have removed the original letter head, so remember to write
your own mail-address in the letter. If you have an anonymous
mail-addy you can use the x-anonymous service. The service
works like this: You send a letter to the root/staff person
at the server and tell him send this letter to the recieve mail
address and tell them to put your mail-address as sender.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
If you're interesting in getting an anonymous mail-address you
can send a letter to this address for getting more information
about all the services:

                help-anon.penet.fi
                 --------------
If you have any questions about the anonymous service you
can send a letter to me on my anonymous mail-address.
- -- --- ---- ----- ---------- ----- ---- --- -- -
MAKING ILLEGAL FTP-SITES:
----------------------
Now we have to talk about an activity, which are illegal and
very dangeous, but isn't that the fun in the scene.

We will tell you about making illegal FTP-sites! Normally you
can only find shareware prorams, patches, previews etc. etc.
and download that, is very very very BORING!!! So you have
to find the illegal sites or make them by yourself.
I know a lot of illegal FTP-sites, but I won't write them here
and I just don't spread them! If you are good enough you can
send me a letter and ask for some. (If you arn't ELITE you
won't get any, so don't waste your time lamers).

HOW TO MAKE A SITE:
----------------
It's very easy to make an illegal FTP-site! All you have to do
is using the command "mkdir" and viola the dir is created!
When you're making the site there are letters you can use and
there are letters that you don't use. YOU DON'T USE NORMAL
LETTERS LIKE a,s,r,z,q etc. These letters can you see when
you are making a dir, but dir with spaces, tab and ctrl-codes
and harder to find! The last thing you do is sending me a
letter and tell me where you have placed the site and I will
tell the right people that a FTP-site is placed here.
Remember that you are doing illegal activies and it can be very
dangerous!!! So BEWARE!!!

When you are sending me a letter, remember crypt the letter
or use pkzip with password and send it to me! Send the file
with the password first and then the file with the pkzip file!

NEED HELP NEED HELP NEED HELP NEED HELP
--------------------------------------------
I need some help from you! If you are an active C64 scene pal
and working as root or have root rights we need your help to
make a site with login on your system! So if you want to help
us with a site let me hear from you!!!

 Troubles for TG-ACME/MOTIV 8 and SAURON/ex.ILLUSION
 -------------------------------------------
Last time we told you about the troubles that Tg Acme/Motiv8
and Sauron/Illusion! It seems that Sauron are in big troubles
so don't him any files with illegal information! The root on
the system have read Sauron's personal post and read about
his activities. REMEMBER that it's not illegal when your root
is reading your personal mail. You are just a little user, whos
lending his system.

     THE BLACKBOARD - ADVERTISEMENT CORNER
  ----------------------------------------
Greetings, dear swappers!

It is once again time to remove the dust from your good old 64.
The summer is not over yet, but for those of you who do not
care whether it is 35 degrees outside, I have brought you yet
another update of this chapter. This month there is not as
many addresses to be found as our last edition, but it is
still possible to find a couple of new contacts though.

I have decided to introduce a brand new way of listing the
addresses. Now we use 2 lines for every address, instead of
the previous 5. The addresses will still be sorted in A-Z
order, another reason why it is important you send your add
directly to me to be sorted. We still keep the usual functions
like in the previous editions, they changed a bit though.
LEGAL contacts will be marked with an ( ), while those who
are LEGAL as well as ILLEGAL will be marked with (+).

You are more than welcome to send us your objective opinion
about our new system, you will also be able to use the below
written address for C64 demoswapping.

KBS, XXXXXX X, XXXXXX XXXXX, XXXX XXXXXX, XXXXXXX.

                        ATTENTION, GRAPHIC-ARTISTS...

MOTIV8 is looking for a couple of SKILLED graphic-artists to
draw logo's and maybe pictures. If you think you are up to the
challenge then send a disk with some examples of some of your
most recent work together with a little letter telling us about
your background. But REMEMBER: We would much rather have
an unknown artist with A LOT of TALENT, than we would want
a FAMOUS one WITHOUT any TALENT. We desire originality,
and THAT's what we are looking for - NOTHING else!

Send your work and your letter to:

MEET THE PRESS - WORLD OF MAGAZINES
   -------------------------------------
Welcome to the official reaction chapter of the information
guide THE PULSE MAGAZINE. We accept reactions of any form
to this chapter, where we will answer your questions and take
advices into consideration.

Readerinteraction. A word that seems to be very new to
most sceners, as it appears we still have a lot of problems
getting through to our readers to send us letters expressing
their opinion about what is written in THE PULSE MAGAZINE.

You will also be able to express your opinion about the

to do with the world of information in the C64 scene.

                                     -----
REACTION FROM RRR/OXYRON,
THE PULSE June edition was possibly one of the best issues
this year. Next to the other editions, it was very objective
and not a propaganda file for some not named groups. The
SATIRICA, PROFILE and SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT chapters was
brilliant as usual, even if the June editions profile did not
have an old legendary scener, like in the previous editions.
Hunting for mistakes in a magazine like yours is some kind of
pleasure, as it is nearly perfect. But here we go.
NEWS JOURNAL: The Polish section of ALPHA FLIGHT is not
in CHROMANCE yet (06.06.94. Source: TITANIC/AFL). SDI
is not a member of AFL, nor is VOLUNTEER. STONE is in
TALENT, not in AVT. TROOPER is an ex.member of TRC+SCS.
THE BLACKBOARD: The address for DESERT DEATH of
UNITED ARTISTS, who is dead in my opinion, is the address of
JOKER/EXTACY.
Furthermore, I liked your statement about the popularity of
various scene disk-magazines combined with the statement
from COUNT ZERO/TALENT in MEET THE PRESS.
The magazine reviews there have been hitting bulls eye.
Excellent work. Continue your work, and I am looking forward
to the next edition after the summer holidays.

                                     -----

COMMENTS FROM THE EDITOR,
I thank you for your reaction, although I strongly recent the
fact that you claim THE PULSE to be a propaganda mag for
anyone. All text that are available in THE PULSE, has gone
passed my critical red pen. I would like for you, and anyone
else who claim THE PULSE to be a propaganda magazine for
anyone, to step forward and point the finger. Anyway, about
the June profile, we feel it was a good and informing interview
with one of the most actual persons of that period of time.
We at THE PULSE are very pro-scene, therefore we always
make interviews with people who are still IN the scene and
support the scene, not the other way around. I thank you for
correcting some of our chapters, but I would like to underline
that the reason we sometimes DO have mistakes in THE PULSE
is the strict release-date, which disables us of always
checking up on the news and text we put in print. I do still
think we are one of the few magazines with a very small error
percentage per edition, but I believe from your letter you are
of the same opinion. I also thank you for following our
debates, I just wish more would do the same. It might be
naive of me, but I really do think our debates make a diffe-
rence in the scene. Sadly only very few react to them, most
obviously believe the scene is doing okay as it is (although
they never stop complaining about it, ironic isn't it?).

REACTION FROM SYNDROM/TIA/CREST,
As I have been reading THE PULSE right from the beginning,
I have to say, that it has developed well into a top magazine.
The reason for this may be found in the monthly release, but
also in the abilities of the editors always to write
interesting text. Maybe you should try to keep the demo-
chapter every month, as they were skipped for two times by
now. But especially the Profile chapter usually is very
interesting to read, as you choose the right people to
interview. Also the outfit looks good, although the new one
is a bit irritating with the multicolour-font, but a big
advantage is the usage of the IRQ-loader, I simply do not like
the tune just being interrupted by the loading procedure or
even restarted in the chapterscreen. Some people think that
THE PULSE's style of writing is arrogant. Well, there are some
truth to it, F.E. I do not like to read EVERY TIME that I am
reading a magazine produced by DENMARK's FINEST, REGINA
or THE SCENE's BEST MAGAZINE. Do you not think the
readers are intelligent enough to notice this by themselves?
If one would check an issue, he would surely find a lot of
these phrases spread over all chapters. Remember you will
get the respect and honour by being good, and not by telling
us that you are good, and you are. This was just one thing I
disliked, I can hardly think of other negative points.
I hope for many more great issues!
COMMENTS FROM THE EDITOR,
Thank you for your reaction, you surely have a lot of good
points. The fact that WORLD OF DEMOS has been such an
unstabile chapter, is that some of our critics have been
slightly late with doing their reviews. Other magazines may
have as their policy to wait around until all chapters are
done and ready for release, but we have an important
deadline to meet, a deadline which is a part of our image.
Another part of our image, is the aggresive method of
promoting THE PULSE. We are a very confident magazine,
we have to, when we at times are declared as the official
voice of the scene. We never claim to be things we are not,
that is the difference between us and some others. We are
the absolute top elite in the magazine industry, polls and
charts prove that. Look at news giants like CNN, which is
running commercials on the hour about the channel, explaining
their status and importance to the world. It may be self-
satisfying, but it is correct, eventhough we realise people
prefer a more modest tone from magazines. I agree on your
remarks towards our outfit, but we do not have the time or
wish to make any changes at the moment. We have so many
more important things to attend to, one of them making sure
to bring you the usual dose of text. But to your knowledge-
ment, we are currently in the making of a brand new outfit.
Hopefully that will be more to your liking. But it is my ...
... experience, that it is nearly impossible to make something
everyone can enjoy and appreciate.

REACTION FROM MR.WAX/CHROMANCE,
The magazine itself was good as usual, it was much more
entertaining with all those demo-reviews. I do not read
reviews in any other magazine, but WORLD OF DEMOS is
very interesting. Which is why I always take the time to
read it.

COMMENTS FROM THE EDITOR,
Coming from a person within the cracking-scene, this must
be rated as a very positive reaction. We are very pleased
about the response WORLD OF DEMOS has recieved ever
since we started it, also due to the fact that other mags
never seemed to have much success with their reviewing-
chapters. Thanks for the positive reaction!

REACTION FROM MERLIN/MOTIV 8,
Before I give my official reaction towards THE PULSE, I would
like for you to know that I like your magazine the way it is,
so please do not take my reaction too hard.
First of all, the graphics are not that good. But then again,
it never was. You give too much attention to the so-called
elite groups. But in the scene there are no real elite ...
... groups left. Since 1991 the real elite has left the scene.
I think that THE PULSE would be better off with a bit more
attention towards the mail scene.
I am not too crazy about your SATIRICA chapter, most jokes
are rather dull. I know it is hard to make jokes about people
you hardly know, but you do not succeed very well.
Taking over charts from other magazines looks rather bad.
Just as if you do not have time to spread your own sheets.
It is also rather unfair, as some people vote in all the mags,
and some not at all or just one. My final point is your letter
to the TRIBUNE. I think you went a bit too far, it has no use
to make such a big thing out of their magazine. It is good
publicity for the TRIBUNE and very bad for you and PULSE.

COMMENTS FROM THE EDITOR,
Thanks for you reaction, here is my respond to it. I think we
have a perfect outfit, and I am also of the opinion that our
graphics is some of the best made in a long time (by KRING).
But it does not matter how good any graphics is, there will
still be a lot of people out there who disagrees with it.
Another thing I totally disagree with you, is the fact that we
should only be giving attention to the so-called elite group
of sceners. To begin with, we have always kept it as our
policy to only write and cover the happenings within known
groups (who deserve attention). You know yourself how ...
... boring it is to read about groups you have never heard
about before, nor cared about. This is a fact of life, supply
and demand. I would also like to direct you towards the
definition of the word "Elite". According to my source, the
word "Elite" means; The leading, The best in a certain field
or in society as a whole. This means that no matter how few
groups there are in the scene, there will always be a couple
of groups defined elite. This is a fact, also seen in real
life. Moving on to another topic, SATIRICA. You claim you
dislike it, because you think it is dull jokes. First of all,
SATIRICA does not provide jokes, it provides stories based
on a satiric point of view. There is a difference you know,
and according to many of our readers, it is one of the best
chapters of THE PULSE. It was the very reason THE PULSE
became what it is today, and that is a fact. You are obviously
a part of a group who does not understand SATIRICA, and I
am afraid there is not anything I can do about that. You also
expressed your discontent about the OVERALL CHARTS,
claiming it looks as if we do not have the time to spread our
own sheets. You missed the point on this chapter as well,
which really disappoints me. The meaning of this chapter,
is to make an overall picture of the charts the available
scene-magazines provides. It is therefore in no way an
official chart, but nothing else than a chapter providing
nice reading and charts based on a lot of different charts.
We invented this chart, because we felt the scene needed
one, and it leaves room for a good debate every month, one
the scene can use. Your final remarks about the war between
REGINA and the TRIBUNE, is without meaning to me or THE
PULSE. We felt it was our duty to set this subjective "mag"
straight, making sure it would not kick dirt in other groups'
faces again. This is our goal, and even if you think they are
the worst piece of trash on the face of this planet (we agree
though), we still feel they should be taught a lesson.
And how, may I ask you, can it be bad publicity for us trying
to revenge their deeds, and clear our name?

That concludes the letters we got for this edition of MEET
THE PRESS. You can also send us your reaction for this

OUTDOOR REPORT
-------------
Eventhough there may have been better offers in the scene
with what magazines are concerned, we decided to take a
look at one of the so-called alternative magazines. This one
is called OUTDOOR, we looked at the 4th edition released by
EXCESS (also NITRO is released under this label).

OUTDOOR has an acceptable outfit, with ordinary coding,
music and graphics. To cut a long story short, the outfit
is basically consisting of a logo and an up-down scroller.

My very first thought was that OUTDOOR must have been a
magazine for the musicians in the scene, that idea was nice
to begin with, but I was later to become very disappointed.
But let us return to the basics of this magazine. The English
is acceptable, but definitely not good. The editors tends to
turn to the so-called pop-language more than one's, which
really annoys a serious reader. Secondly the editors of this
magazine are down right lousy at closing their chapters, one
example would be this phrase: "Because the sun is shining I'm
now out of inspiration! Now I will go out to meet some friends
and after that I will go to sleep!!". Who cares about what the
editor plans to do when he has finished a chapter, let alone
why he failed to make a decent finish to the chapter!
Let me return to the music part I was telling you about on the
last page. To begin with I thought this magazine must have
been for musicians, due to the amount of "music" chapters.
OUTDOOR presented a chapter called COMPOSERS ONLY,
this one was honest enough, offering their opinions on the
latest music-collections released (not graded though). The
other "music" chapters was the MUSIC REVIEWS series,
divided up in three whole chapters. But to my disgust these
were about REAL-LIFE music. Once again I have to let the
better of me, and ask, what does that have to do with the
scene for gods sake? I could read much better and thorough
reviews in REAL-LIFE magazines if I wanted to anyway.

OUTDOOR provides the traditional News and Charts chapters,
but unfortunately the news are incomplete, taken from the
boards (must be from 2 days research). The Charts are done
the right way though, based on hundreds (!) of vote-sheets.

The editorial consists of NEW DESIGN/EXCESS, ALIEN/BCD
and SINISTER/X-LINE. None of these have the word EDITOR
printed in their forehead, they should try something else!

OUTDOOR claims from the beginning they do not have any
major ambitions with the release of this magazine. It is all
the same anyway, as it has nothing competetive to offer!
ANARCHY REPORT
-------------
A very promising group from Turkey called CRESCENT put
this magazine together, we looked at the very first edition,
and this is what we thought about it.

The intro is long, much too long (without any possibilities of
skipping it). The outfit on the other hand is very nice, and
also original mind you. It is a bit difficult to explain the
actual outfit, but it is made with a fine, gentle and skilled
hand. The text-display is a follow up to the new trend, using
a proportional flip-page system. Looks good.

The editors start off by informing the public how they have
no wish to be JUST another brick in the wall. This was a very
definite promise, but will they be able to live up to that?

ANARCHY includes a whole lot of chapters, more than any
other magazine (hopefully they did not exert for that
record!). But this might be because of the NON-64 related
chapters, which basically covers about 50% of the magazine.
It does not matter a lot though, since most of the traditional
C64 chapters have not been exchanged, but a couple has even
been added. It does not excuse the amount of NON-64 related
chapters though, one thing I dislike about this magazine.
The absolute BEST thing about this introduction edition of
ANARCHY, was the music-reviews. They were done in a new and
interesting way I liked a whole lot. They tried to follow that
idea up with a programming chapter, but sadly it was no match,
and far too incomplete with what the text-capacity concerned.

Due to the fact that this is only the first edition, ANARCHY
did not include any news or interview. This is an excuse that
has been heard more, but frankly I see no reason why they
could not have added any of the above, they are easy to get
and therefore could and should have been included.

A part of the scene has already applauded this magazine,
calling it the new SCRIPT and other heavenly names. I really
do not see any resemblance. Maybe that both mags are made
in Turkey, but that about does it. I must applaud one thing
though, the fact that all editors are good at English. I like
that a lot, as it shows that the editors are selected due to
their expertise and writing-skills.

Whether or not ANARCHY will become a great magazine is to
be proven by the makers in CRESCENT. I would like to see more
of this magazine, but hopefully I wont have to wait months
before the next edition arrives. They have something good
going, therefore they should follow up on it quickly.
