GLOBAL NEWS

OH DEAR, JUST THINK OF THE GOLDEN EIGHTIES WHEN
WE WERE THE TOP OF THE 8-BIT CREME. EVERYONE
(AND MOST OF ALL OURSELVES) CALLED US -"ELITE",
BECAUSE WE WERE IN GROUPS THAT EVERYONE
CONSIDERED -ELITE- AND RESPECTED THEM..... OH MY
GOD, HOW PROUD WE WERE THEN! SO PROUD THAT WE
NEARLY FORGOT THE REAL REASON WHY WE WERE
-ALLOWED- TO BE "MEMBERS" OF THESE GROUPS. ALL
COULD HAVE BEEN SO NICE, IF THERE HADN'T BEEN
THAT THINGY WITH THE MONEY. IT REALLY WENT ON
OUR NERVES TO PAY MONEY EVERY MONTH JUST FOR
THE WORD "MEMBER"... BUT THAT'S JUST THE PRICE
YOU HAVE TO PAY WHEN YOU ARE BOUND TO BE A LOSER.
  BUT WHO CARES ?!

  EHHHHHH ??? OUPSSSS!...COMMERCIAL BREAK............
I THINK THIS KIND OF "REAL SCENE JOURNALISM" ;) FITS
MORE TO ANOTHER SCENE MAGAZINE, THAT CALLS ITSELF
"THE BEST"-INDEPENDENT SCENE MAGAZINE...HAHAHA  !!!!

THIS DEDICATION IS FOR EVERYONE, WHO THINKS THAT HE
IS BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE NOWADAYS.
YOU SHOULD ALWAYS THINK ABOUT YOUR FORMER JOB IN
YOUR GROUP.. AND THAT WAS PAYING LOTS OF MONEY FOR
YOUR MEMBERSHIP... THAT DOESN'T MAKE YOU ELITE. NO,
IT JUST ONLY SHOWS THAT YOU ARE REAL LOSERS!

                       -------------------------
HOHO.......Every year again.... I see this shine in all kids'
eyes.. The whole body starts trembling when I go
around with my X-MAS switch. (no hard feelings :) )...
and say these nearly mystic words "HAVE ALL OF YOU
BEEN BRAVE ?" with my dark voice. Ah, how much I like
it, when crackers sit down on my knees and tell me
about their bad releases.. And the suppliers that
are sorry for the "illegal" steeling of theoriginals...
Groups regreting their bad side and promising to
become better.. Oh yeah.. Somehow the scene is a
world for itself! Everyone lives in his own dimension.
Let's see what Santa "Shok" brings to you KIDDIES...
This year it's something very special. Something
useful, something informative...Something that makes
the grey scene trot more colourful.
Something with the name.... "T H E C R E S T".....
Welcome to the CHRISTMAS-EDITION (issue number six)
of the only CURRENTLY-MONTHLY released magazine.
Of course we know that it isn't the very first
monthly released scene magazine!!! But it is out of
question that it's something special these days,
when a magazine gets released every month.
Releasing a magazine every three to six months
is nothing special.. And a magazine doesn't make
a person "ELITE"! But it seems that there are still
some "SELF-DEVOTED" -SCENE JOURNALISTS GODS from
other so-called "INDEPENDENT" scene magazines, who
think so. It nearly seems to me that these "wanna
be" guys aren't able to devide between "REAL LIFE"
and "SCENE"!!! This scene thingy gets much to
often mishandled as real life. But it seems to me
that the scene is something like another FAMILY for
many people, and so it comes to these mishandlings....
The main reason to start this magazine was for us,
that we weren't satisfied with all these mags that
preach independence and objectivity issue for issue
and all in all fail to fulfill this. OBJECTIVITY is one
of the words that got discussed a lot lately.
Is a magazine objective enough, when it's edited by
illegal groups? Isn't it better to have staff members
from both parts (illegal and legal) of the scene?!
And this doesn't mean only legal-reviews, but in the
whole magazine. THE CREST is the best prove for it....

A certain staff member of a certain magazine will
now probably leave us (espec. DODGER) a trillion of
"WE ARE THE BEST...CALL US GODS" e-mails.
A small (?) message to this certain editor...
ONE THING IS STILL UNCLEAR TO ME.... IF YOU ARE REALLY
THE "PERFECT AND UNREACHABLE SCENE JOUNALISTS"
(JUST ONLY USING THIS WORD (JOUNALISM) IN THE SCENE
SHOWS YOUR LACK OF -INTELLIGENCE!- ), AS WHOM YOU
CALL YOURSELVES, THEN WHY ARE THERE SO MANY
PEOPLE WHO -HATE- YOUR DIVINE-STYLE? OR IS IT JUST
ONLY THAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR ACCEPTION, BUT NO
ONE ONLY TAKES YOU SERIOUS?!? I THINK FIRST OF ALL
YOU SHOULD TAKE OFF YOUR >REAL LIFE SPECS< TO SEE
WHAT THE SCENE REALLY IS ABOUT. ALL THE ONES THAT
TRY DAY BY DAY TO PRODUCE "SOMETHING" AND SO
RELEASE STUFF TO TALK ABOUT... ALL THESE ARE THE
REAL "MAKERS" OF ALL THE MAGAZINES! THE EDITORS
ARE ONLY THERE TO PACK THE WHOLE THING INTO ONE
TOGETHER, TO WRITE IT DOWN.. AND FOR THAT YOU
NEEDN'T TRY BEING A JOUNALIST ORABSOLUTLY PERFECT!
IT ISN'T NECCESSARY TO RELEASE MAGAZINE JUST TO
SPREAD -PROPAGANDA- OR BOREDOM. THIS YOU CAN
RELEASE AS NOTE-FILE!, CAN'T YOU?!? WHO CARES ABOUT
YOU BEING IN A MEGA-COOL GROUP BACK IN THE GOLDEN
DAYS!? (AND HAD TO PAY YOUR FEE EVERY MONTH)..
WHAT COUNTS IS TODAY ...AND NOTHING ELSE! THE GOOD
OLD TIMES WERE THE BEST OF ALL, BUT THAT DOESN'T
BRING THAT FEELING BACK..

Enough about his topic....
Some time ago I read somewhere, why we don't
release THE CREST as a "one filer" like the
"FRONTPAGE" by TRC back then.... Yeah, of course....
No problem, because the Cbm64 really has a lot of
memory. 8) Hey people, how the hell do you want to
put more than 200 blocks of "packed" text into
that memory??? Did you forget thatthe outfit has to
be in the memory as well? Too bad that always the
ones, who nearly know nothing about that subject,
open their mouths to complain about it! How can it
be that someone, who's only able to swap, talks
about things like coding or pal/ntsc fixing and
stuff?!? Better talk only about the things you know
about, for example swapping! ..Just think about
that also every chapter would have been to be
"de-packed" ...And memory for this is missing 8(
So, better keep your mouth shut, when you want to
talk about things you don't know a fuck about!
This had to be said and also was already said in
another magazine. It might sound a bit harsh.. That
does't mean that swappers are lamers! ; -)

As next point we'll give you some information about
the latest happenings concerning THE CREST....

First of all we kicked MIDFIT/LEGEND from the staff,
as he didn't fulfill our expectations. To say it clear:
HE DID NOTHING FOR US! (He has got a new employer,
and is now working for another magazine.)
Then DANZIG/AFL 1970 decided to support us not
only with decent coding-critism for the demo reviews
but he'll also write some other chapters from time
to time...!

Let's shout out some credits....

                              -- ------- --

Feel once again warmly welcome to another news
update!
Again we can inform you about the latest happenings
in our beloved CBM64 scene.
And this month wasn't that slow at all. At least there
happened more than last month.
But on the boards things were still very quite, due
to the lack of codes for most former callers. Only a
bunch of about 10 people called regularly last month,
so let's hope that this improves soon...
Okay, now let's start straight away with the latest
news and updates...

FANTASTIC FOUR CRACKING GROUP [bel, pol, swe.]
-- ----------------------------------------------- --
New members: -
Gone ones..: SKINHEAD, SKID ROW

FTP-Site...: INTERPARK bbs.cc.uniud.it

So, they had a quite moving month, at least
concerning their legal section. ZYRON released a
collection together with CUBEHEAD, which is called
OXSID BOOK.
STASI finally got his long awaited MANGA-COLLECTION
out. (Read our chapter "WORLD OF ARTS 2" for a
review of it!)
SKINHEAD and SKID ROW both were kicked from the
fantastic ones. So it seems also with them their
member THE CRACKPOINT went, because there are
rumours that this are SKINHEAD and SKID ROW.

Memberstatus:
--------------
DESPAIR, FUNGUS, GOZ, MAJA, MOTLEY, MR. ALPHA,
NEWSCOPY, PLAYBOY, SLIVER, SNEAPER, SOLAR, STASI,

-- --------------------------------------------- --
New members : LOGGER, WIGGEN, HOLLOWMAN, GUM,
              ROOSTER
Gone ones.....: -

They enlarged their legal section with letting join
the old members from ALTER.
So LOGGER is from now on the leader of the legal
part of FLT. WIGGEN and HOLLOWMAN came to be
graphicans and GUM and ROOSTER will do the coding
jobs.

Memberstatus:

FTP-Sites...........: THE DIGITAL DUNGEON
                                      ftp.scs-trc.net

First of all CBA came back to the scene. So, it seems
he missed the lovely machine, hehe! Let's hope he'll
make some releases, even though that would be a

huge surprise.
SUN DANCER, who once was in REGINA, joined the
dutch co-op as a web-graphican.
Later on SUPERSTITION and STAKE got kicked.

days. Guess, it's nothing but pure selfcounted
charts!
When voting please keep in mind our special counting
system (for more info read THE CREST ISSUE 2) and
also remember not to vote for any member of the
THE CREST main staff, that means DODGER, SHOK'RAY
and me (HARDSEQUENCER). Also votes for our groups
DYTEC and MEGASTYLE PROD. won't be counted, okay?!?
Only this guarantees 100% objectivity for us all...

CREST are still defending the number one spot with
success.

But OXYRON are getting very close with points, just
climbing from place 3 to 2.

Loser of the month are SMASH DESIGNS with letting
OXYRON, BYTERAPERS INC. and REFLEX pass. They fell
down from 2 to 5!

For LEPSI DE things are getting better an better.
This month they jumped from 10 up to place no. 8.

Comments:

Really massive changes in this list... Everything
changed except ACTIVE with keeping their 10th place.

HITMEN became this one's number one by passing AFL
and SCS +TRC, who both lost one position.

Another positive surprise are LAXITY. They climbed
from the 7th place up to the 4th.

Only new entry are REMEMBER, who collected a
remarkable amount of points from our readers, what
gave them place number 8!

Comments:

CROSSBOW lost lots of points to MR. SEX, who now
also takes the top spot. Also GRAHAM got very close
to him, just only 6 points difference.

Between places 3 and 4 is a huge hole. But maybe AEG
can manage it to come closer next time. This month
he was only able to keep place 4.

ZORC climbed up two places (from 7 to 5) as well as
MMS, who jumped from 10 to the 8th place.

Highest new entry is GREMLIN at position 9.

MOONCHILD still number one, but this time the only
one! IGNORANCE, who shared the 1st place with him
last month, fell down to the 3rd!

JACK ALIEN's jump from 4 to 2 is a quite positive
surprise as well as DIDI's continious climb. This time
he gained the 4th place. That one better than last
month.

Highest new entry is MR. WAX at position number 6.
We just wonder how it is possible that someone who
doesn't crack can enter these charts...

After lots of work DEEKAY finally did it and took
over the top spot by climbing from 3 to 1!

The former no. 1 JOE shares now the 2nd place
together with ELECTRIC.

RRR and VALSARY exchanged their positions while
STONE jumped straight into the charts on 6!

SEBALOZ gets more and more popular with sceners,
so could improve his position from 10 to 7.

MITCH+DANE still on no.1, but their lead getting
smaller because of an explodingly climbing JEFF, who
won 5 places with jumping from 7 up to 2!

An even bigger jump made ZYRON. He managed it to
get from 10 up to 3! So, now both music partners for
our demo reviews are under the Top 3...

A surprising high new entry is ORCAN, who entered
the charts straight at position 5.

P.R.I. and DRAX fell 3 and 2 places down.

                - ------------------------- -

Another month has passed and the year 1997 is
nearly over. Again the action on the BOARDS was on
a quite low level. Maybe some action is taking place
before X-Mas, so let's wait for the last month of the
year.. .

The BOARDS where I take the releases from are:

- -------------------------------------------------- -
THE DUNGEON +X-XXX-XXX-XXXX
DEADZONE +X-XXX-XXX-XXXX
THE BASS PLANET+X-XXX-XXX-XXXX

5.X for FULLPRICE-GAMES

-5 for the RE-RELEASE of a FULL GAME
-1 for the RE-RELEASE of a PREVIEW
-1 for a FIXFILE or a 2ND VERSION

THE RULES:
------------
FAKELABEL-RELEASES won't be counted!
BASIC-GAMES, COMPILED BASIC-GAMES, SEUCK-GAMES
and TOOLS will get NO points.
1 EXTRA-POINT will be given for something special!
This can be a special feature in a CRACK, and
impressing TOOL or.. .

-1 POINT will be given for not translating the whole
TEXT of a GAME into ENGLISH!
It's not neccessary to translate the GRAFIX too, but
if the GAME uses no TEXT, only GRAFIX, they have to
be translated!

If a GAME is fixed PAL/NTSC it will get 2 POINTS added
to the given POINTS for the GAME.
If the GAME was released as PAL-VERSION before, it
still gets 1 POINT added.

If a 2ND GROUP is involved in the FIX the POINTS will
be shared.

Make sure it's a real FIX and not only slowing down
the MUSIC!
If the FIX isn't needed at all, I'll give the PAL-POINTS
only.

A fixed VERSION of a GAME has to be released within'

- ------------------------------------------------- -

Ok, on the next PAGES you'll find the complete
RELEASE-LIST for NOVEMBER 1997! HAVE FUN.... .

ALPHAFLIGHT 1970 [0,8 points]
- ------------------------------------------------ -

The guys in AFL'70 put out the promising PREVIEW of
BOMB MANIA (0,8 points).

CHROMANCE [4,3 points]
- -------------------------------------------------- -

First they released a lame game named JUMPIN' CUBES
(1,1 points), which runs already PAL/NTSC. Due to the
fact that the CRACKINTRO doesn't work on NTSC, I
removed one POINT for lameness.
Later they put out the fixed VERSION of GIRLTRIS
(3,2 points) which got released by WOW+ROLE as PAL-
VERSION before.

FANTASTIC FOUR CRACKING GROUP [2,2 points]
- -------------------------------------------------- -

The guys in F4CG had no luck with releasing GIRLTRIS
as PAL-VERSION, since it was the incomplete VERSION.
But they could also gain some POINTS with releasing
FROGS AND FLIES (2,2 points). Since the game was
already PAL/NTSC no FIX-POINTS were given.... .

LAXITY [0,1 points]
- ------------------------------------------------- -

LAXITY released the small and lame PREVIEW of
PHANTASM AND FANTASY (0,1 point).

MOTIV EIGHT [0,2 points]
- ------------------------------------------------- -

This month they put out the PREVIEW of MOONSPELL
(0,2 points).

SUCCESS AND TRC [0,7 points]
- ------------------------------------------------- -

They showed some activity with releasing the sweet
PREVIEW of SKIDMARKS (0,7 points).

WOW+ROLE [0,5 points]
- ------------------------------------------------- -

Again they could enter this LIST with 2 RELEASES.
With their complete PAL-VERSION of GIRLTRIS they had
no luck, since CHROMANCE released a PAL/NSTC-fixed
VERSION later this month.
But with releasing the PREVIEW of the game SUPER-
PACMAN (0,5 points) they finally gained some points.

That was all for NOVEMBER! Check the next pages for
the complete LIST... .

           LEGAL CHRISTMAS PROFILE 1
           -------------------------

Another legal profile of the month... An this time
just in christmas time we bring you a small
christmas present... A quite interesting smalltalk
with a scener with many great abilities! He's well
known for his coding but also for his k00l graphics.
It's no one less than the almighty...
                 D'ARC/TOPAZ BEERLINE
Have fun reading this portrait!

- ----------------------------------------------- -
[c]: THE CREST [d]: D'ARC/TOPAZ

[c]: Hello D'ARC! Great to have you here! So, please
give the readers a brief description of
         your person in general!

[d]: My real name is JANI HIRVO.I'm 23 years old and
computer engineer. At the moment I'm working
for this huge company called ABB (Asea Brown
Boveri ) as a design engineer creating code.
The rest of the time I have left after work I
read, go to the gym, play games and code some
         more.

[c]: Thanks!Starting with one of the most popular
questions. How and when did you get your
         beloved CBM64? And why?
[d]: I have a friend whom I met when I was playing
with small cars at our sandbox. After a while
he told me that he had a computer, a Spectrum.
We surely had to go and play with it. This was
the first time I ever touched and used a
computer. It took years before I got my own
computer. I was 12 years old when I finally
got a computer. This was my beloved Cbm128d.
Why? Don't know. I had been talking about
wanting a computer and suddenly one saturday
morning we went and bought one. I was a proud
         owner of a Commodore 128d.

[c]: ..and how did you get into the scene then   ?

[d]: Saw some demos and especially the ones from
[d]: .TRIAD made an impression.
Wanted to try those too.Started to program
in basic but never got something really fast
done. I made a lot of productions which, in my
eyes looked quite neat. Then I met HTD/TOPAZ
when he wanted to have California Games
from me. We both had the interest in demos
and copied each of them from each other.
HTD wanted to code too and we had these two
         different groups.
We joined each other and formed DUO which
still was a group coding in basic.
The first real demogroup we formed was FATE
and there you could see the first real
productions made with assembler. HTD coded
less and started drawing and composing....
[d]: ......I went on with my coding.

[c]: And you succeeded!.. Hehe!
Everyone knows your abilities in coding and
drawing graphics! So, what made you start
coding and drawing and why didn't you become
         a cracker or composer ?

[d]: Of course everyone had a lot of games.
They were already cracked so there was no
need to start doing things on them!
Sometimes some of my friends bought or got
one as present. And of course it had to be
copied but unfortunatly there were these
copy protections. I was sometimes tried to
remove those with the little knowledge I had...
[d]: ..on machine language, but did not succeed
that well.I noticed that it was much easier
to create something than trying to break
something in to parts.Pixelling just came
along.I never got the graphics I wanted in
the time I wanted. Had to do them myself.

[c]: ..quite interesting story!
Concerning demos.... Who are or were your
         idols on the Cbm64?

[d]: PANORAMIC DESIGN is surely my favourite demo
group. They had ( have ?) new ideas, wicked
         style and especially great code.
Ofcourse there are many other groups I
truly respect, like. ORIGO DREAMLINE, TRIAD,
[d]: ....BEYOND FORCE, MEGASTYLE INC. , CENSOR and
such, because of the things they have done
         the past years.

[c]: ..yeah, they did a great job!
Okay, back in time, who were the very first
buddies you got to know in the scene and
which group was the very first, you joined?

[d]: The first scener, I met was HTD (the artist
formerly known as ZIT ).The first real group
I was in was FATE.The first guy to send us
( yes,you could say newcomers or even lamers)
demos was LORD WOOD/UNIT 5. The first one to
be known as a friend inside the scene was
         COAX/TOPAZ BEELINE.
[c]: So, please tell us then, which groups you
joined later on and what was your task  ?

[d]: FINNSOFT:
         --------
         -basic coding...

         DUO:
         -----
         -basic coding and drawing something....

         FATE:
         ------
-real assembler code, graphics and swap...

[d]: TOPAZ BEERLINE:
         ----------------
-code, graphics, swap and a hell lot of other
         things.....

[c]: Over to the present....
What can we expect from you and TOPAZ
         BEERLINE in the future ?

[d]: Ah, I would like to release a demo someday,
but I lack the time. I even have three of
four parts almost ready. Well, they have
been in that state for almost 2 years now.
I don't know where to find the needed time:
         job, hobbies, housekeeping, other projects
and such take all of it.Luckily I get to...
[d]: ..sleep even 7 hours a night.

[c]: Ouppss... we nearly forgot to ask you...
How did you get your very own handle  ?
Where have you taken it from ?

[d]: I have always been a roleplaygamer. I was
this hobbit thief and I named him as D'ARC
GOWN and since then I have used that name.
People have said that I took it somewhere
(the french maid Joan of....) but that is only
         coincidental.

[c]: What do you think of trackmos   ? Do you like
them more than the old fashioned demos
         including press-space routines ?
[d]: Trackmos are fine, but when you're looking
at an average trackmo demo you get bored.
If yo have a boring looking PLASMA or such
in the middle of the demo which takes minutes,
I usually take the next demo. This isespecially
seen in those PC demos ( 3d amp: plasma ..gee)
The old school demoparts can be skipped by
pressing space if they look boring.

[c]: ..good point of view!
About the coding.... Do you more prefer taking
demo effects from other ( bigger) systems
and trying them on Cbm64 or do you more like
to invent new and C64 related routines?

[d]: Cbm64 parts like Multiplexers, Splits and...
[d]: ....such are great effects on the 64. A Pc-coder
who can put a zillion of those on a pentium is
not amazed. When he sees a gouraud shaded
box rotating on a 1Mhz machine and fitting
into 64k of memory, he is.Today the main
cbm64 trend is to amaze the PC/AMIGA people
with tricks they do on their machines.I like
doing things that are not 3d or plasma.
I loved 3d but after coding a vector routine
         with texture-gouraudshade- and environment-
         mapper, I lost the 3d spirit.I think I'll get
a good 3d card and do the needed 3d things
         with it.

[c]: How much time do you or did you approximately
spend infront of your beloved C64 ?
[d]: I was not working back then, only school.
It could be that the average time infront of
a computer was like 3 hours. Today when I
work with computers and do things with them
at home, the time spent infront of a computer
         could be like 8-10 hours.

[c]: Pheww, quite a lot...
Is there any special technique you use when
         you start coding things?

[d]: Yes, hard work. I get an idea, let it stay a
while in my head getting shape. And then do
         the writing part.

[c]: Have you ever had some kind of war in the...
[c]: .64 scene?

[d]: There was this misunderstanding between
two cars, a bunch of stolen C64 stuff and
someone who said it was "ME" who took them.
Ach.. This is an old thing and has been
         reviewed many times all over.

[c]: ..or just run the file called CORRECTION/TOPAZ
on this disc, which was spread years ago...
Tell us now, which was the best party that you
[c]: have attended ???

[d]: I would say TCC'1994.

[c]: Time to give us your very own favourites in
         the following categories...

[d]: CODERS: too many to mention
         ARTIST: ELECTRIC/Extend
         COMPOSER: AMJ/Topaz Beerline
         DEMO-GROUP: PANORAMIC DESIGN
         DEMOS: can't say...
         TOOLS: TURBO ASSEMBLER
         CRACKING GR.: IKARI+TALENT
         CRACKERS: dang... dunno

[c]: .and now over to some "real life" favourites.

[d]: FOOD: Steak and alot of the stuff I and my
         girlfriend make.
         DRINK: Beer ( german )
         GIRLS: My girlfriend ULLA
MUSIC: THE PRODIGY and CYPRESS HILL

[c]: Thanks a lot...
Now, let's do some kind of brainstorming...

[d]: GRAPHICS: Painkilling pixelling...
         CRACKING: Needed for the masses...
INTERNET: A great place to gather infos...
         TRACKMOS: The new ERA...
         PARITES: Meet the people...
[d]: SEX: FUN!
         ALCOHOL: Better drunk than high...
DRUGS: Not needed, even for there masses

[c]: What's your opinionabout today's demo scene?
Do you more like the golden 80ies?

[d]: Been out from it for a while so can't say
that much of today's scene. I liked the scene
in the 80ies.People were nice, mail was sent,
stamps were cheated... All that.I really
liked to come back home from school and find
5-7 packets with hot stuff waiting for me.
Letters, notes, disks and ofcourse new
demos and such. Those were the days.

[d]: Today people use e-mail for sending stuff...
Or just give you the link to a site where you
can find the new demos that have been
released. You used to get the new files to
your home and today you have to go and get
the new warez. The old school PUSH has
         turned into something else.
Still, I would not go back to those days in
spreading the wares. Use the new technology
as good as you can. I can see the 3d cards
coming and taking the art of real 3d coding
away. Some of us will miss that, too.

[c]: And now a tricky question...
What is ELITE in your very own eyes? Is this
phenomena still on the CBM64 ?
[d]: ELITE treats you with respect and you respect
him. To earn this respect you have to do
something. Anyone in the scene can be ELITE.
Elite is also someone that can do things so
well that it keeps others amazed all the time.
You can't be an Elite after one demo or one
product. You have to do your homework.

Sure there is ELITE in the scene, but are
they active ? I prefer more talking about
LEGENDS who have been in the scene for years.
Everybody knows them and their point of view
         is respected.

[c]: We truely agree with you!
What's your special advise for the young...
[c]: .coders, who want to become as good as
         you ?

[d]: Hard work and new ideas! If you are not that
good in coding, try to do new things with
the things you already know. If you do a bit
of easier, code in a new and exotic way,
you'll be regonized. Style is what matters!

[c]: We're coming closer to the end....
So, the last few lines are yours.....

[d]: I'd like to greet everyone of my old swap-
mates. I miss the old time but times are
changing. I hope no one has any hard
         feelings for missing disks.
[d]: Let us all try to keep the Commodore 64
spirit alive. Give (buy? ) me some time and
         I'll do a demo.

[c]: Okay, thank you very much..... Cheers!

             CHRISTMAS PROFILE 2
             -------------------

WELCOME dear Audience,
The Crest Magazine is proud to give you this profile
with one of the best demo producers from the past.
We proudly presenting to you:

                    TTS/OXYRON
                    ----XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX----

- ----------------------------------------------- -
[c] THE CREST MAGAZINE [t] TTS/OXYRON
[c] Cheers TTS, how about a brief desciption ?

[t] Well, my name is Michael, I'm 26 years old,
        hobbies are: computers, computers and
computers, I'm a student of mathematics at
        FH-Flensburg.

[c] Quite brief. Hehe!
Let us take a closer look at your computer
history.. How and when did you get your
        beloved Cbm64 ? ..and also why ?

[t] I got my first C64 in 1982, before that I
started my computer-life on a Wang at 5th
class in school. The decision of CBM64 was
easy, as there was only a ZX Spectrum which...
[t] .was comparable in price and power at that
        time.

[c] So, let us take a closer look into your
history-book. Which was the very first group
you were in? And who were the first buddies
you got to know in the scene ?

[t] My first group was TIF (The Incredible Fan-
tastics) which was built up by some friends
        and me.

[c] How did you get into the world of bits and
        bytes then ?

[t] Well, I started my first scene contact back...
[t] ..in 1988, when I started in Assembler coding.

[c] By the way....
Is it correct that TTS means THE TERRA SOFT?
How did this handle come into your mind?

[t] The Terrasoft was chosen by me in 1982, as
Tera means earth, well I was 11 years old, so
it's a stupid name, but I will never change
        it I think.

[c] Please tell us, who are or were your Cbm64
        idols then concerning demo coding!

[t] Well, some of those are BOB/CENSOR,
        The UPFRONT guys, MEGASTYLE, etc.....
[c] As you are a really famous coder....
What made you start coding and why didn't
you become an artist or a composer ?

[t] Well, I'm very interested in mathematics as
you already know and I don't know anything
about how to compose or paint a good art.

[c] What can we expect from you and your
group OXYRON in the future ?

[t] I have done 2 games for the Amiga (Trapped
1 and 2) which are some 3D role playing games,
we have done a patchprogram (OXYPATCHER)
for the Amiga and of course our (in my
opinion all time best coder) is still doing....
[t] ..incredible demos for the C64,
of course we are going to do some Amiga
        demos in the future.

[c] You told us that your very first group was
TIF.. So, please let us know which groups you
        joined later on ?

[t] After TIF I have been in GLOOM, where
        several demos have been produced.
Then OXYRON was founded, as GLOOM had
some problems, we took 'the inner cycle'
of GLOOM and that's what is OXYRON now.

[c] What is your opinion about trackmos?
Or did you more prefer the good old...
[c] .."press space" demos ?

[t] Hmmm, trackmos are cool, but what I really
like nowadays are ONEfiled demos, as they
have to be coded by hard, you can't pre-
calculate animations or animated tables, so
you have to do good code.

[c] Back to present.. Hehe!
Nowadays, Pc- routines are more popular
than the good old rastercoding. Do you
        prefer Pc-influenced routines more than
good old Cbm64 based rastercoding routines ?

[t] Well, I like both Rasterroutines are always
fascinating, but I of course like all those....
[t] ...3D stuff, texture mapping, gouraud shading,
        etc.....

[c] Is there any special technique when you are
        coding your decent demos ?

[t] Try and error, but you always have to have a
good idea, just coding can be done by anyone,
not the code is the effect, the idea is, that's
what makes an effect a good one.

[c] ..how much time do you spend infront of your
        beloved commies ?

[t] Puhhh, all in all, I spend from 1982 to 1995
about 13 years at the Cbm64, about 4-5 hours...
[t] ..average a day which are all in all...

        365x13x4.5=21235.5 hours :-)
        - ----------------------- -
        Damn thats a lot!  ;-?

[c] Have you ever been involved into somekind of
        wars ?

[t] We had some small troubles in the past, but
        no real wars.

[c] TTS' favourites....

[t] Coders: BOB, SLAMMER, FLAMINGO, (GRAHAM)
        Composers:CHRIS HUELSBECK
[t] Demo groups: CENSOR, LIGHT, CAMELOT, CREST
        Demos: WONDERLAND series

[c] BRAINSTORMING.....

[t] GRAPHICS: dithering
        DEMOS: vectors
        CRACKERS: those crackers cracked my
        latest game.GRRRRR
        INTERNET   :alt.binaries....:-)
        PARTIES    :FUN!

[c] Thanks alot!
Which has been the best computer party that
        you have ever attended???

[t] Oh, there are so much, well one very good one
was The Party 2 (we won the demo compo there
with Coma Light 2 :-) ), I liked all big parties
because of all the guys and the kind of
friendship which is in that scene.

[c] What is your special advise you have for
young bloody coders, who want to become
        as good as you ?

[t] Well, I never say that I am good, I have been
very active, but there are so many better
coders, I would say just try out whatever
comes in your mind. Try to code it, even
if it seems to be impossible.

[c] Now, this rather short profile comes to its
end....As last point: Do you want to say hello
to some of your pals ?

[t] Greetings are going to all the 'old' guys, the
Scala posse, and of course to all active c64
        guys.

[c] Thanks alot for sharing the time with us...

               ------------ --
This issue we bring you a lot of reviews of
graphical artworks that were released lately.
In this chapter we give you our judgements for the
competition graphics from the AMIGANICA-Party, that
was held in Hungary from 08. to 09. 11. 1997, and from
the ZOO'97-Party, which was held in Finland from 21.
to 22. 11. 1997.
In the second Graphic Reviews chapter you get to
read something about the graphics collection called
MANGA COLLECTION featuring graphics by STASI/F4CG.

-- -------------------------------------------- --
         AMIGANICA-PARTY COMPOPICTURES
         -------------------------- --

That party in Hungary was held from 08. to 09. 11. 97.
There were only released 5 compopictures. But that's
just better than nothing, eh?!?
The results then looked like this:

1. LOVE IS JUST. by POISON of SINGULAR
2. ALIENS by GERYUC of DIFFERENT
3. ALIEN VISITOR by CYBORTECH of GRAFFITY
4. WIZARD by TGM of SINGULAR
5. JAMIROQUAI by BALANCE of REPLAY INC.

Okay, now let's start without any hesitation with
a closer look at them...
LOVE IS JUST A FOOLISH GAME by POISON of SINGULAR:
-- -------------------------------------------- --
This interlace-fli picture shows 4 motivs fading all
together to one piccy. It features a woman's face,
a cat's head, a colourful bird and grey sky, too.
The worst part of this fullscreener is the woman's
face. It's not painted very well. The proportions are
partly wrong, for example the eye is too big and the
nose just too small!
The cat flickers a lot, what goes a little bit on the
viewer's nerves.
But the rest is okay. Especially the fading are well
done.
All in all this picture deserves the first place.

                                                > 74%
ALIENS by GERYUC of DIFFERENT:
-- ------------------------ --
On this interlace-fli graphic you can see two heads
from aliens taken from the famous ALIEN series. In
the background is a bright fire, so that the heads'
shapes are mainly black and shadowed. The details
are painted in blue, what looks okay.
The left head looks kind of weird, so that you really
can't figure a face or something. But I guess that's
just so, because it's an alien, hehe!
The whole picture flickers way too much.
Overall this pic is better average but nothing
special at all.

                                              > 69%

ALIEN VISITOR by CYBORTECH of GRAFFITY:
-- --------------------------------- --
This is a conversion of an image by Boris Vallejo. It
displays a woman down on their knees wearing a red
dress. The shapes of a planet can be seen through a
circle like window behind the woman.
The woman's face is really ugly, because you cannot
nearly identify anything of it.
The colourfadings in the whole pic were well done
and look quite good.
To summarize it all, this fli graphic is good, but the
motiv simly too boring, in my opinion, although the
picture is nearly perfect technically seen.

                                               > 71%

WIZARD by TGM of SINGULAR:
-- -------------------- --
This interlace-fli piece is quite small taking only
about a quarter of the screen. It features an old
man's face with a long white beart and empty, grey,
blind eyes. Right to it is written WIZARD from top to
bottom.
The face's shapes aren't good at all. Also this pic
flicker too much.
Overall this graphic has a low standard, concerning
the size as well as the quality.

                                             > 20%

JAMIROQUAI by BALANCE of REPLAY INC.:
-- ------------------------------ --
Another picture in that interlace-fli format. This
one shows the sign of the music band JAMIROQUAI as
shadow in front of some fire-like colourfadings.
The colourfading were well done by the painter, but
it flickers a little bit too much.
All in all, this piece is really boring, because it's too
simple with that one shape and some fadings....... But I
don't think that it derserved the last place in the
competition.

                                               > 33%

So, that were all pictures from the AMIGANICA-Party.
My ratings look that way:

1. LOVE IS JUST. by POISON/SINGULAR 74%
2. ALIEN VISITOR by CYBORTECH/GRAFFITY 71%
3. ALIENS by GERYUC/DIFFERENT 69%
4. JAMIROQUAI by BALANCE/REPLAY INC. 33%
5. WIZARD by TGM/SINGULAR 20%

So, my list has some differences compared with the
results from the party. But the number one is just
the same. The Top 3 pieces are all good average.

                                    HARDSEQUENCER
                                    ------------------
                        ZOO'97 COMPOPICTURES
                       -- ---------------- --

That party took place from 21. 11. 1997 to 22. 11. 1997
in Pori (Finland). There were released 5 graphics and
the competition results looked like this:

1. MY TRANS by ELECTRIC of EXTEND
2. LOVE LISA by ELECTRIC of EXTEND
3. PYYKIVUORO by BIOLOGICAL DADDY of YLEISRADIO
4. HUORA by DOC of VANDALS/FD/MYSTIC
5. LAST NINJA REMIX COVER by LASSE V

Okay, now let's start with my (SHOKRAY's) opinion
about these pictures...

MY TRANS by ELECTRIC of EXTEND:
-- ------------------------- --
An interlace-fli picture by ELECTRIC/EXTEND... You
can see a woman's head with some eyes in the
background.
Excellently painted! The possibilities of the i-fli
mode were used very well. Also the piccies shapes
are great. No optical mistakes can be seen, just like
in most face pictures nowadays.
It's a new miles-stone in that ELECTRIC era.. Not
really one of his best pieces, but it deserved the
first place, no doubt.
Originality: 61% Conversion: 84% Mode Usage: 95%

                                              > 80%

LOVE LISA by ELECTRIC of EXTEND:
-- -------------------------- --
And another picture by ELECTRIC............... But this piece
isn't as good as the other one. Displayed is a woman,
that is possibly dressed up in leather.
Because of the fact that the piccy is held in white/
grey/black only, something of the pictures look gets
lost. And partly it's even hard to figure out what it
should be! The interlace-fli mode was used badly.
Anyway, overall this graphic isn't that bad. But I
guess that the second place in the competition was
more a present for ELECTRIC than really deserved.
Originality: 45% Conversion: 53% Mode Usage: 10%

                                             > 54%

PYKKIVUORO by BIOLOGICAL DADDY of YLEISRADIO:
-- --------------------------------------- --
A fli picture by an artist, whose name I've never
heard before. Showed is some kind of "domina", who
is rarely dressed and has two biiiiig tits! (Yeah,
something for lovers of big ones, hehe!)
The fli mode was used very well. Also many colours
were used and that looks quite k00l, I think.
That's the picture that would have deserved the
second place, in my opinion.
Originality: 32% Conversion: 58% Mode Usage: 90%

                                             > 60%

HUORA by DOC of VANDALS/FD/MYSTIC:
-- --------------------------- --
A koala picture... You can see some kind of mutant
with a woman's face and a fairy's face. The whole
thing gets bordered by flame-like colourfadings.
Not one of the best party pictures, but it deserved
the fourth of five places.
The koala-mode was used quite well, except some
shapes, that could have been drawn a little bit
better.
Originality: 24% Conversion: 39% Mode Usage: 61%

                                            > 41%

LAST NINJA REMIX COVER by LASSE V:
-- --------------------------- --
One of the pictures that better never ever should
have been released!
It was painted in koala and displayed is something
like an eye, that mirrors a human being like figure.
All in all this picture is a pure laugh!
The possibilities of the mode were used badly and
the shapes are really hard to figure.
That's nothing to be missed in your discbox...
Originality: 4% Conversion: 6% Mode Usage: 29%

                                              > 13%

So, after these reviews my rankings looks this way:

1. MY TRANS by ELECTRIC 80%
2. PYYKIVUORO by BIOLOGICAL DADDY 60%
3. LOVE LISA by ELECTRIC 54%
4. HUORA by DOC 41%
5. LAST NINJA REMIX COVER by LASSE V 13%

ELECTRIC deserved the first place, without any
doubt! But the second place would have fit better to
BIOLOGICAL DADDY, as far as I'm concerned. The rest
is the same as the compo results...

                                     THE SHOKRAY
                                     -----------

WORLD OF BYTES

            GRAPHIC REVIEWS - PART 2
            --------------------- --

Welcome to the second part of the graphic reviews
in the Christmas issue of THE CREST!
This time we can give you a review of a new graphic
collection with pictures by STASI/F4CG that is called:

                MANGA COLLECTION/F4CG
                -----------------------
So, let's start right now...

-- ----------------------------------------------- --
When I first heard from this project, STASI was a
member of NOICE! That was back in 1995.. Which
originally was planned to be the releaseyear for this
collection...
I was quite surprised when I heard that F4CG
releases a manga collection, but couldn't believe
that it isn't a pure Amiga/Pc converted collection...
But when I got it, I was surprised to hear that STASI
is a member of F4CG.... Another reason to take this
collection serious. Because in former times I saw
some really good graphics by STASI. So, let's see
what he did this time...

In the intro is a simple koala picture, which shows a
naked girl.. It looks like converted, but it would be
quite dumb to convert such a simple picture...
Originality: 19% Conversion: 25% Mode Usage: 45%

                                              > 29%

"FIRST MANGA"
-- ------ --
Was first painted in hires but then finally done in
i-fli... Displayed is a girl which gets bordered by a
lightgrey/blue box. I'd liked to see the blouse more
open, hehe!

Originality: 31% Conversion: 34% Mode Usage: 23%

                                                > 29%

The possibilities of the interlace-fli mode were used
badly. More colours might have been used...

"BOOBMANGA"
-- ----- --
Was first shown on The Party 5! You can see a girl
that pleases the viewer with her nice breasts.. The
whole thing gets surrounded by a purple/red box.

Originality: 45% Conversion: 51% Mode Usage: 36%

                                             > 44%

"FLOWERMANGA"
-- ------- --
According to Author it doesn't flicker....... Is that a bad
joke, or what?!? It flickers quite a lot!
Shown a is girl's face, whose one half gets covered
by a flower...

Originality: 24% Conversion: 27% Mode Usage: 21%

                                              > 24%

Besides the flickering I must also admit that the
i-fli mode wasn't used well. Too less colours for a
format that takes more than 120 blocks!

"HAIRMANGA"
-- ----- --
Displayed is a girl with extremely long hair.. The
whole thing gets surrounded by some kind of glass
ball.

Originality: 16% Conversion: 21% Mode Usage: 11%

                                            > 16%

The worst picture until now!
Even STASI himself critizised the lack of colours...

"SEXYMANGA"
-- ----- --
According to STASI it was quite hard to make a
conversion of that piece. You can see some kind of
arcade-manga. Often to be seen in console games...
The best picture so far!

Originality: 64% Conversion: 71% Mode Usage: 51%

                                             > 62%

Great piece! With some glanz effects this would have
got 90% to 100%...

"SWEETMANGA"
-- ------ --
In my opinion this collection's worst piece at all.
Here you were meant to see a girl with a cyclope eye.
Due to the bad chosen colours this picture gets
really dull...

Originality: 4% Conversion: 7% Mode Usage: 2%

                                              > 4%

Nothing to add...

"IRIAMANGA"
-- ----- --
That is absolutely the best picture in this show!
Displayed is a manga girl with a gun...
Great shapes etc. ...

Originality: 81% Conversion: 85% Mode Usage: 56%

                                                 > 74%

A real highlight in this collection.............. This quality
should have the whole collection!

"METALMANGA"
-- ------ --
A girl dressed up in leather. Partly human being,
partly a cyborg.. Great shapes and colouruse!
One of the better pictures in this collection...

Originality: 64% Conversion: 61% Mode Usage: 52%

                                              > 59%

Good colourchose, good shapes................. Good work!

"KINKYMANGA"
-- ------ --
My first impression was that it is converted!
Perhaps it is...
Displayed is a girl, who is masturbating. (Yam yam!)
Due to the bright colours it flickers a lot...
Anyway, it's okay...

Originality: 49% Conversion: 54% Mode Usage:39%

                                                  > 47%

Would be a pity, if it's converted................ But I think that
STASI prefers pixeling himself to repixel the pixels!

"ICZAMANGA"
-- ----- --
A fullscreen manga face... I like that one, because it
features good colours and also nice shapes...

Originality: 66% Conversion: 68% Mode Usage: 53%

                                              > 62%

That was this collection's last real piece...

"F4CG IS WATCHING YOU"
-- ---------------- --
The end. Snief... The collection reached its endhere.
Shown is a simple hires picture, which features a
part of a face (the eyes)...

Originality: 33% Conversion: 41%

                                               > 37%

F4CG is watching you! Uahhh, now we are afraid, hehe!
Average hires pic with good shapes...

Final Conclusion:
-- ---------- --
After calculating I get to the point that this show
deserves 41% all in all...
Overall this collection isn't very different to other
collections that get released nowadays..... The reason
for that is the lame displaying, too simple picture
shower routine.... The way a perfect graphic demo has
to look like was presented to us by CREST in
KRESTOLOGY. Hard to believe how good this collection
would have looked, if it was crossed with some k00l
effects.
You can also argue about Manga or not in this
collection. In my opinion only 4 pictures are really
manga-styled.... The rest is more normal style, i'd say.
But partly even that looks good!
I think that STASI shouldn't waste his talent for a
cracking group (here it is F4CG), but should look for
a decent demo group to give his graphics a special
touch with great coding...
At last I have to admit, that I see this collection as
an highlight of 1997 anyway! No graphics collection
was better than this one!
I hope to see STASI back in the charts quite soon.
But that doesn't neccessarily mean that a graphican
can pixel very well, when he is in the Top Ten...
That's it!

                             SHOKRAY/MEGASTYLE
                             --------------------
                             Earth, water, sun and style!

ABOUT THE CODING:
-- ----------- --
Those who have seen other releases from this polish
based legal group know they expect some real cool
work. And that's finally what you get with this
twosided product!
In 1992 (I guess) they spread their demo "A PLACE IN
SPACE" and back then I was a legal member of
glorious COMIC PIRATES. The demo had a real
innovative touch with cool code. And after I read the
fact the it's just the 50% version I remembered
ELYSIUM and TABOO made this "contract" about a
coop! I never saw the final product and now I
understood why... :) The demo (or better the TABOO
half) is delayed 3 years!
Before I begin to review the different routines/
parts I like to admit, this demo fusionated with the
ELYSIUM work would have been kind of milestone for
sure.. Both groups stand for innovation and for
brilliant work in mathcoding and know a lot about
rastercoding. Unlucky for the scene it never became
reality. The whole thing is a trackmo, loading with a
track/sector-irq-loader. As a real positive aspect
they designed most of the routines with some neat
little build up/off-code.

The first routine is a morphing, filled, single colour
high resolution plane, ortating in a circle. A ball
appearing at the top of the screen falls down on the
plane and bounces against it being "reflected" to
left and right correctly from the plane's shape!
That's what I ment with innovative ideas.. It's cool!
I won't write about the ways they coded their plane-
drawer or something. 99% the coder use(d) to draw
the outlines of the object (in this case a 2d-plane)
and finally inverts the whole charmap to fill it. (I
only remember TTS using a routine to draw a
complete plane and if I remember right BX of ORIGO!)
Also checking it out is a fucking work since the
loader fucks upon my SX64 after freezing with ARP.

Next up are two filled vektorcubes in "zebra-mode"
showing both at the same position by leaving out
every 1st and 2nd on the first and 3rd and 4th on the
second cube. It gives a strange but cool view. Of
course the "overlay" is done with sprites(how else?)
since each cube has its own colours.

After they left the screen a pillar is entering the
screen stretching, turning around the y-axis. It's
moving through all borders giving the answer how to
be done, d017-sprite-stretching! The head and the
feed of the pillar column is precalculated (or
painted?), the same goes for the bodytwirls.
Changing them each rasterline gives a proper effect
of a column screwed up like a towel to hit people in
the swimmingpool. (you all know this funny action,
don't you?!? :) )
It's again a new idea using wellknown techniques.
I love it!

Coming up then is one of the coolest filled vector
parts in 64-history! The objects are covering more
than a 128 pixel high and wide charmatrix trying to
make us believe it's a whole bitmap! But due to the
fact they change the colours it's clear to be
splitted fonts! The objects are morphing and
changing, even between different vectorstyles
(objects, single planes, glenz, etc.) in a fluent row.
Marvellous work!

Up then is a fullscreen multicolour dot tunnel
journey in highspeed! Not much to say about it...
It kixx!

A usual action to be done in nearly all demos since
the beginning is the greet all mates.. The lines of
text are fading through the sideborder and the top
lines are fading back left and right for some
seconds caused by the abrupt stop while scrolling
from left to right. ;-)
It's a more or less simple bordercode doing its job...

Coming up by FLD is a 6 frames-wormhole-animation,
seen before in other demos.
It looks fucking ugly to me.

Afterwards is coming up some standart code (ifli,
klickload, pic showing) not necessarz to take a
closer look at!

First effect in side 2 to write about is another new
idea, a dot fountain. From a central point raindots
bubble up and fall down on a platform, spread left
and right, again giving a reality-like view.
It's fascinating how the TABOO-guys try to make
things look real and to see them succeeding!

After this beautiful part there are some cursor-
resoluted rotator-codes. TRON of FAIRLIGHT did a
mandelbr0t-rotator in LEGOLAND 3 and so the
TABOOies did the same with a julia-fractal, sorrowly
looking lame. The second circulating picture is
unidentifyable for me (though I guess it IS a
picture!) and also just in 8x8 resolution.
These two routines destroy the perfection shown up
to that point. Shit happens!

The last part is a fullscreen interference-circle. An
old routine (like the demo itself.. So it's okay!) but
not done fullscreen before. the circle performed
with sprites is moving too less up and down for me,
but nevertheless it's nice to see a real
interference...

The last thing to be shown is still the end part. A
1x2 scroller, 8 sprites wide and in upper and lower
border. You couldn't expect much from it since a
quatro-zak is playing (or even 5 times played?)
consuming tons of rasterlines to be performed...
Funny feature: They greet every pal by real name!

ABOUT THE GRAPHICS:
-- ------------- --
WAYNE opens the show with some kind of creeper
graphic in Koala, being followed by a fli-logo by
FAZEE, which shows an ALTERED STATES logo with an
eye between both parts of the logo. Very nice! And
the graphic mode was chosen perfectly and nearly
used totally!

As next thing SHAMAN gives pleasure to our eyes
with a "TURN DISC"-logo/pitcure in i-fli. It shows a
frog sitting in a mouth. And the whole thing gets
surrounded by a "TURN DISC"-logo.... A pitty that i-fli
was used! Would also have been possible in fli!
Anyway, quite cool idea and conversion!

On the second side of the demo we start noticing
what talents are in TABOO.. A small but super cool
graphics collection with pictures by FAZEE and
SHAMAN.
The show gets started by FAZEE, who shows us with
an interlace-fli picture, what is possible in this
graphic mode! Displayed is a kneeing knight
surrounded by a colourful cloud.
The graphic mode was used excellently!

The next picture shows us the "pilot of death"(?),
which was pixelled by SHAMAN.. A pity that i-fli was
used! This piece also would have been possible in
fli, in contrast to FAZEE's previous picture. But it
looks cool anyway!

And another nice pic by FAZEE. On it you can see two
well-known figures.. Both were painted on the C64
quite often or simply converted from big brother
Amiga. But I must admit that this is the best
conversion on the C64 so far, even though the
possibilities of the i-fli mode weren't used
completely!

As fourth and last piece we get to see some fighting
knights.. This picture was painted by SHAMAN in
interlace-fli and is his best in this collection!

As next we see a fountain in hi-resolution by WAYNE,
which is the last graphic in that demo!

The rest are normal fonts etc. ...
But all in all the ALTERED STATES is a must for
everyone who likes cewl graphics!
Don't miss it!

ABOUT THE MUSICS:
-- ----------- --
This demo includes 3 songs from SHOGOON and one
from DRAX.

SHOGOON is technically a good musician and he used
to belong in my top 10 of "modern" C-64 musicians,
but after hearing the ALTERED STATES musics I must
sadly admit he dropped out of it.
Even after listening through the songs a dozen of
times really trying to find something special in them
I can't say they appeal to me, I'd call it commercial
jazz/funk lacking everything needed to make music
memorable, yet well arranged and technically superb,
but that does unfortunately not impress me enough
to give SHOGOON a higher rating than 35%!
Big Disappointment!

DRAX is, as we all know, also a technically good
musician and he also manages to even amaze is with
nice melodies from time to time, which is the case
with his song in this demo.
Of course it sounds more or less like all previous
funk-alike songs he has composed during the years,
something I usually dislike but in a cas like this I get
away with it! It actually grows on you the more you
hear it! I suppose it was composed exclusively for
this demo.
For this tune I give DRAX a rating of 68%.
Big Surprise! (I needed that)

                                              > 43%
OUR RESUME:
-- ----- --
The ALTERED STATES 50% is a demo of high standart
and design, even 3 years delayed!
KM and MMS did a hell of a good work in my eyes...
Unfortunately we need to hope seeing more delayed
demos in the future to avert this lame 4x4 piss-off
code to contaminate our screens...
