magging around.........by digahole

some people produce disk magazines
and some critisize them.my beloved
self here has turned out 2 be able
do both -and even scratch my balls
at the same time. before we go on,
here is a list of my victims:

 SKYHIGH (16TH EDITION)
 VANDALISM NEWS (21ST EDITION)
 MENDIP (08TH EDITION)
 CHIT CHAT (07TH EDITION)
 PROPAGANDA (17TH EDITION)
 DOMINATION (04TH EDITION)

why don't you spend your time with
some other hobby such as sleeping?
my favourite sleeping style is the
one where my back faces da ceiling
and my legs and arms overflow the
bed.(such stupid text... -ed2)

     SKYHIGH #16 BY CAMELOT

okay, look who we have in the disk,
mr.jorgensen,also known as bizkid.
well,i was eventually impressed by
this cool production.

although not my favourite,the out-
fit looks glorious with a superb!
logo and a proportional up-scroll.
the menu to this magazine,i think,
is a loser with stupid icons.well,
that's just me,myself,and i,eh ?!

there was a time when bizkid had
released the commercial note-file
of his forth coming mag,skyhigh.he
had promised to have the biggest
addy chapter and never to erase an
addy.so,he seems to have kept that
promise,but who'd have thought dis
idea would turn out to stink ?!

many of the addies are not updated
and some are even rotten as their
owner have quit.and,hey,you cannot
trust to send a disk to an address
in this mag,right !?

i,personally,find some chapters to
be absolute menu-fillers.like "the
birthdates","bbs","how to use",and
"thanx to".these are just numbers,
dates,and names.also,how could the
guy load and read the "how to use"
nonsense if he did not know how to
use the outfit?

well,not 28 out of 28 chapters are
uncreditable.there really is great
amount of scene related text."biz-
mix","cupid's corner","mad on" are
a few to name i enjoyed.

some of the text is very original
and interesting to read."vision"is
one of that sort.especially when
you are a coder,good job.and then
there were really fine interviews.
the one with mistress (yeah! -ed2)
is one of the best i've ever read.

the extras of skyhigh are always
something worth a look.i find the
file done by cruzer very well.and
intruder there has done a fine job
sending in an old demo part from
the golden ages.

all in all,i must admit i like the
skyhigh.it is nice to read bizkids
quality text.

 VANDALISM NEWS #21 BY (O)+(HC)

perhaps we should start a new part
where only the vn issues are re-
viewed as these guys produce a new
edition every week! nha,ha,ha...

allright now, there's no way out of
this,so i will mention the brand-
new outfit ?! this one looks a lot
more glamorous with many fade in'n
out effex,cute graphix,more tunes,
and side border logos..but life is
a bitch, and i did not like the new
style(put the gun down,matt! -ed2)

vandalism news,i think,is the damn
funniest mag on this flat earth !!
you will see my point if you check
out the "scene jokes" and "lighter
side" chapters.greaat job..

nevertheless,i cannot say the same
for "up and coming" and "coding
help".shades might be an ok coder,
but everyone owns that book,which
he copies those pages from.erm,i'm
not saying anything about "up and
coming" except that it's pure crap
talk.

vengeance must be spending lots of
time writing his editorial,as that
is one of best chapters in v.n.and
the other mags in the scene.

there are average chapters such as
"the farewell","mega comeback",and
"scene satanism".the interview in
this issue is a nice one again.

hot news and monthly arrogancy is
always available in vandalsim(gee,
why can't i type that correctly at
my first try? -ed2) and this issue
is no exception.check out for some
killer text in "payback time".

well, dis mag has already earned my
vote even just for its regularity.
so,nothing more to say i guess.

      MENDIP #08 BY ARCOSS

now,if we consider this mag as one
of the latest in top ten,i really
must admit my disapointment after
reading it.

besides the fact that the outfit
is poor,i had a hard time trying
to read the chapters avoiding a
nerve-break-down because of that
irritating upscroller.

what you get is 12 chapter names,
which is far beyond reflecting the
real amount of text.two of those
aren't even text.well,you can see
my point if you select that last
chapter,which resets the machine.

three out of 11 n0n-self-reseting
chapters are extras named as "addy
corner","cd player",and "merci".i
like da addy corner with all those
special options where you can even
add a new address.cool,but i don't
approve seeing sceners addies who
have not supported that issue.(hi,
skyhigh)or perhaps we should start
doing the same.

"cd player" looks cute, but is lack
ing in good graphics.erm,why don't
the arcoss posse try making music
changing a key option instead of
presenting that simple action as a
mag chapter (and every issue) ?!

some chapters are reasonable,like
"interview","voicemail boxing",and
"how 2 be elite".too bad,we have a
chapter similar to that in this
issue."x-95 report" is quite dated
as the name states,but funny.

perhaps,they should have waited to
prepare a better issue.who knows ?

CHIT CHAT #07 BY NO NAME

this magazine drives me crazy,even
before it starts.how dare they fix
an intro with no space routine and
goin'on for 30 minutes with a full
screen norway flag ? baeh.

the so called new'n'cool outfit is
nothing significant for me.perhaps
ugly, aswell.there is a bug on the
text displayer rasters,oh!

although there is loads of text on
the disk, not much of it appeals to
me,b'coz so many of the chapters
are not scene related, and i do not
like that.the editorial,somehow,is
fairly well.

some 30% of the mag consists of
crap written down from books,which
have nothing to do with the scene.
"drinks","home smart home" are two
to name...

news chapter is sooo old it makes
me weep.it has year old news ! and
the "best of 1994" charts are soo
useless (made up from 5,6 sheets).
well, not only that, but it is old!!
the name says it all.

gigabyte seems to have done lotsa
work for this issue, but even his
efforts and his okay journalism is
not enough to save it from being a
low-budget mag.

if the main editor had put more of
his skills into the text (instead
of copying from books!),then this
might have been a better mag.well,
the outfit certainly needs a touch
of talent to be considered fine.

one last thing to note should be
the to do something about loading
main menu music everytime a reader
presses fire button.

         PROPAGANDA #17

it had been a long time since i'd
seen a new issue of propaganda, and
i'm not regretful 2 have laid eyes
on diz fresh one.newscopy and deff
seem to have accomplished a really
successful errection. ;)

the outfit,however,fails to cope
with the quality of the text;looks
quite same as the previous with a
dull impression.erm,the icon-menu
is not my style,indeed.

there aren't so many chapters,but
the text is delicious,mmm.i found
myself flooded with emotion'n'joy
whilst reading.especially the one e
where all editors wrote what they
felt for scope's tragic death.

"staff babble" and "editorial" are
well done chapters,but reading the
editors show off and try to market
the mag as the 'time' sux.puke!ah,
it was interesting to learn about
people reacting to propaganda from
egypt,argentina,etc.

the rest is simply great to read,
and appreciate ; such as "when in
holland","awards".well,the charts
could have been much better.they
were inexcusably small just as the
addies section.

one of the many nice things about
the text in the mag is the little
quoters between lines ; looks much
as the ones in real magazines.the
page designs are also neat.cool.

the negatives of propaganda aswell
hold the one-tune-only shit.that,
along with the outfit,should have
been fixed.

what's more to say ? if the mag
keeps on a regular basis, they will
earn my precious vote, and a good
one at that.

         DOMINATION #04

yepsa,smash of the month,my latest
favourite,domination.though,it was
the first time i ever saw an issue
it knocked me off my shoes.

the magazine looks brilliant with
great graphics and superb design.
you are aswell presented with many
tunes and a fast hires text.what's
so sh0cking is that i loved their
icons,something i usually don't.

the text is of very high quality.
chapters are full with information
and literal delight.the best thing
about domination is that it brings
report from all over the scene.

the editorial,to begin with,is one
of the best around,but i can't say
the same for the demo reviews.jazz
cat should know that a demo review
is not writing what is in the demo
second by second.there's only one
paragraph of comment on each demo.

there are many,many fine chapters
to be enjoyed."game scene" is one
of the sort where you learn about
the real legal scene."usa scene"is
also some info on the modem-only
side of the scene.different areas,
different goals,good stuff.

"party time","h/p anarchy",and the
interviews are worth mentioning as
well.all of'em are very funny and
interesting.by da way,3-interviews
is really 'something' in my eye.

bizarre's mag reviews chapter is
probably one of the best of its
kind.he obviously spends a lot of
time observing and judging the
magazines.excellent work.(this has
nothing to do with splash being
reviewed that issue. -ed2)

a disturbing shit about domination
is its drug commercial mixed both
together with the editors' style
of writin'and that special chapter
which teaches about drugs.

other than that,everything seems
in place.so keep up the work, guys.

text quality...................83%
design.........................87%
overall........................89%

puf,i can't believe i read all the
text in those mags.now,onto some
new fun.i will type out charts for
the mags i reviewed for 2 issues :

   BEST MAGAZINE CHARTS

1) domination 4 .............. 89%
2) skyhigh 16 ................ 88%
3) nitro 18 .................. 81%

   BEST DESIGN CHARTS

1) domination 4 .............. 87%
2) nitro 18 .................. 82%
3) skyhigh 16 ................ 72%

   BEST TEXT CHARTS

1) domination 4 .............. 83%
   skyhigh 16 ................ 83%
2) propaganda 17 ............. 81%
3) vandalism news 19 ......... 78%
   vandalism news 21 ......... 78%
   nitro 18 .................. 78%

well,that's it.stop producing mags
and start creatin'games and demos.
the mag scene is already too hot 4
beginners.
