Skyhigh 21 Profiles - The Silent Stars
From C64 Diskmag Wiki
Profiles-The Silent Stars Welcome, dear audience, once again it's time for me to introduce a new chapter to you, that I am intending to release each issue from now on, if possible ac- companied by an interview, in this issue's case with Glenn/Shape. This series of chapters is called Profiles and will deal with several personals within the scene being described under a special group, this time as the silent stars. Sequels will probably be Troublemakers Living Legends and lotsa others.... Well, for this time it's the Silent Stars we're dealing with. Now, how to define a Silent Star? A Silent Star in my point of view is somebody doing a superb job in this scene without making a big fuss a- bout it and getting famous, rocketing the charts and generally being in everybody's notes... Just let's continue with the first example and you'll surely find out sooner or later what I mean... *Glenn Rune Gallefoss/Shape/Blues Muz'* Well, Glenn, former being Shark/Regina is one of the outstanding musicians these days, as, apart from producing superb conversions, he composes most of his tunes himself without falling in the ever so com- mon boom-boom techno-esque style. Furthermore he is quite a good tool/demo coder and surprises his contacts with own-produced noters showing a lot of design and fun to look at, I just remember the mas- turbation noter, other contacts also requested... It's amazing, that a musician with his skills and ideas yet is rather unknown and does not get the credit, that should be due to his attempts while other musi- cians composing rather poor tunes out of a sudden get lots of respect and votes just because they do 10 tunes a week, being rather hearalikes. Just try to get some of his tunes and make your own view... *Deekay/Crest* For the graphical side, meeting Deekay/Crest was a real shock to me. This guy, being friendly and open though being in one of the best, not to say legendary demogroup, is rather absent in the normal scene-biz, as he does not swap, but once in a while check on the net and some boards, if I recover correctly. Before meeting him, I only saw his logo for the last News Press by Rebels and the one in the Onslaught Intro together with mine. Now, he is one of the few remaining graphicians, that do their logos simply by pixeling them rather than copying, moving and modi- fying the shapes to get new characters. He seems to have some troubles getting his logos released, as he still has most of his finished masterpieces in stock, including his Talent-Bitmap Logo, that I would des- cribe as one of the best I ever saw. If only he would be a bit more active, or let's say if only his works would have a regular release, as he does a lot for stocking only, he would surely kick some butt within the charts. With Crossbow, the coding mastermind backing up with lots of weird, but superb editors, this guy could move a lot, so watch out guys... *Commander/Role* Now,how about a real workaholic without much reac- tion? Here you have Commander of Role, doing a real hell of a job trying to keep Rock'N Role alive, with lacking back-up and inactive groupmates. When this guy called me for aboiut 3/4 of an hour we chatted a lot about old times and the scene in general and there I got a lot more insight into his activity. For example he collected all flicks he got from sceners from the past 7 years and is currently calling all of his contacts to ask them wether he could use their phonenumber for assembling a scene-phone- book or not, and that's a lot of effort being put into the scene, don't you agree? So, please justify his efforts by giving him a helping hand with news, tunes and moreover, logos for his mag, the Rock'n Role... *Moonchild/Fairlight* Well, let's go to Poland, and visit one of the few sce- ners, that are around for a somewhat longer time, than the usuals. Moonchild, being one of my older contacts and my first in Poland always was a plea- sure to wait for, as he shows a healthy attitude to- wards the scene, and not the normal exaggurated polish attitude. He has some time-problems, as his studies keep him busy, but when he starts doing a crack, he does such a hell of an effort to make it perfect, that I was truly amazed. Well, being in AVT, I'm more or less used to shocking cracks by J.A.,but Moonchild's +12 release of Wonky Worms surely made me wonder, how the fuck this is possible! So, if you want to get some real quality cracking, and don't mind about the release-date, Moonchild is the adress to wait for. Furthermore, he improved/coded a lot of cool tools, especially usefull for crackers, like IfFL squeezers, Loaders, Level-packers and alikes. Just try to catch him on the net or leave him an e-mail, you surely would find a nice guy to talk to... Well, this concludes it for this time, I hope you like this concept a bit and enjoyed reading... Until next time, yours Cup!d/Avantgarde
