From C64 Diskmag Wiki
--------------------------------------- * Interview - Goblin/Light * --------------------------------------- Welcome once again to this edition's interview section. This time we journey into the career of a established scener from the past. He is the main organiser and founder of one of the legendary Swedish demo groups of all time. Presenting to the scene.. >> GOBLIN of LIGHT << Some of you may have remembered their comeback demo titled 'BRUTAL COMEBACK'. Also the collectors out there would also know of the old Light magazine 'SMOOTH CRIMINAL'. The following scener has been involved in all these productions as well as a graphician to the Brutal series and other demos, enjoy. Jazzcat/Onslaught D - Domination G - Goblin/Light D) Hello and welcome to the media. You are quite known already in the scene, but some may still be unfamiliar with you, please introduce yourself to the readers. G) Hi there, bah! Well, i am Goblin, founder of the legendary Light. I started computing way back in '83, when i got my first computer, a VIC-20. In '84 i got my first Commodore 64. I wasborn in Karlstad/Sweden on February 13, 1974, but i presently reside in a small town in the vicinity of Stockholm. I just got home from a 10 month service for the UN and NATO in Croatia and (mainly) Hungary, so i now work as a substitute teacher while i am preparing myself for a trip around the world, which i, my brother and a very good friend of mine (Hi Martin!) will commence on October 26, 1996. We will be gone for about a year and a half. Please read more about our journey later in this interview. D) What would you regard as your best personal achievement on C64? G) I guess that would be starting up Lightway back in October 1988, and making it one of the all-time appreciated crew in the history of the C64. D) Could you please give the audience a history on when you joined the C64 scene, what groups you've been in, and any highlights in your scene career. G) Well... I started producing lame demos and swapping in a local group that we called "The Black Riders", before my pals got tired of the computer. Soon i got and offer to join Tronix, a Swedish group, which i did. Then in March 1988, i met Elric and joined Agile. But due to some internal problems, i left, and got alot of Agile people to join me in my new group, Light in October 1988. The rest is history... i've been there ever since, apart from some later cooperations with Agile and Fairlight (for five days! We must have been on drugs or something...) D) What are your jobs in Light? and what have been your past duties? have you ever done music or coded?? G) Like mentioned earlier, i am the leader and organiser, getting new people, getting people to DO stuff and other things like that. I paint a bit, and i am editing SMOOTH CRIMINAL and help out with our Web-page on the Internet. Alot of these you could describe as past duties, since we at the moment are lting quite low.. But we'll be back, Bah! D) Can you give us any news on upcoming productions from LIGHT, will Smooth Criminal be returning? A new Brutality?? G) A new demo WILL be released, sooner or later! Brutality 2, Brutal 4, Brutal Nintendo or whatever. We'll try to release some more Smooth Criminals. I talk to the others like Scooby, Rasg and Yabba quite often, Flamingo and i meet alot, and we always talk about new Light stuff. We'll see! D) What words of advise can you offer to the learning painters out there, how should they go about things to improve their abilities? G) Look at other peoples work, observe what is good. Take your time, don't finish a work in one day. Pictures have the tendency to change while the computer is turned off... D) Magazines come and go, but in the last two years the quality has improved. What are your favourite magazines these days and why? G) I haven't seen many mags recently, but yours seems cool! My all-time favourites would be Magic-News, Corruption and Brutal Recall. D) What do you think is the most enjoyable section of the scene. MAIL, BOARD or INTERNET. Should the boards be kept for tradition or should the Internet take over in hope of some old sceners returning? G) Boards are a part of the history of the 64, but i really don't know their importance anymore. Internet has it all... and many of the old timers are there - i love it! D) If you had a choice in choosing any scener, any mag or any bbs for the ULTIMATE group, who would they be and what would you call the group? G) Whooeee... ok, here goes: Naturally, i only get to pick Swedes, right?! Coders: All in Horizon, Flamingo,Yabba and Bob/Censor Crackers: Mr.Z and Janitor/Triad, Injun inc and Tycoon. Graphicians: The Sarge/Triad, Scooby, Sensei/Censor If they are busy, i would have to paint something.. Music: Thomas Danko Jr. Thats all you need. Board: Wares Aquarium, which originally is a Light-BBS, at that time run by Jedi/Light. It ruled! Mags: Smooth Criminal and Shock. D) Your all time favourites of the following: Crack groups: Old Triad, Papillons and Ikari. Crackers: Mr.Z/Triad, Tycoon, Strider (No.1)/Wcc-Flt Demo groups: Horizon, The Judges, Scoop, Mdg. Coders: Flamingo and Yabba, Kjer/Horizon, Glasnost/Camelot, Fcs.Finnish Gold. Graphicians: Hein Design, Dokk, Bob, The Sarge/Triad. Magazines: Brutal Recall, Magic News,Mamba,Corruption Demos: Last Traktor III/Horizon, Contest Demo/Finnish Gold, Radwar Party Demo/Mdg. Sexual position: Don't care, as long as it's the good old in-out, in-out. Sucky-sucky at its best! Woman: Jenny Food: Anything as long as it's dead, and good tasting... Drink: Absolute Vodka Kurant and Blixt Gordon. Political Group: I symphasize fully with the Rebel Alliance. D) What do you think is the best hope for scene rejuvination?? G) Internet is doing a damn good job for the old commie. D) What are your goals in real life and the scene? Tell us what you hope to achieve.. G) Well, when i, sooner or later, will come home from my around-the-world-trip, i will start studying, probably computers. Get a good job, earn alot of money so that i can have alot of vacations.. When it comes to Light, all our goals are already accomplished. We would like to get some more demos out though. D) What graphicians do you respect and why? G) The graphicians that i respect most are the early ones like Bob and Dokk, cause they really set new standards and produced beautiful art when the 64 still was a baby D) Have you ever done any commercial work on the C64 and other formats?? (games, utilities etc..) G) Nope, there's been some plans, but too lazy coders bah D) The handle GOBLIN, is there a reason for choosing it? Have you had any other handles?? G) I had it as a grafitti handle a long time ago, (like'83) So when the time came to have one in the computer business, it just came along.. Pretty ugly one, though.. D) Do you know when the LIGHT Web-page on the Internet will be fully completed? G) Soon man, VERY soon. As a matter of fact, i am working on it just now. D) Well here is a chance to say hello to any friends out there, feel free.. G) That list would be just too long, and i would miss out too many! Just "HI, Bah!" to all you out there who has, do and always WILL see the Light. Light - Brutality Itself! D) Thanks for your time, i hope you enjoy this edition. Any last words for a final impression on the audience? G) Yes! On October 26, me and my pal Martin are going for a, like one and a half year trip around the globe! Our route is: Russia/Moscow, Mongolia (Ulan Bator), China (Beijing), down through China to Hong Kong and Macao, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Cook Islands, Fiji Islands, Hawaii, United States and finally back to Europe!!! If any of you out there live where we are going, it would be cooool if you let us know! Email us at: Zaphod(at)hem.passagen.se This will be checked on a regular basis while we're out! Thats it! Thanx for your time.. Goblin/Light is out! Regards Jazzcat of Onslaught
