Welcome readers to the official Domination awards.
This edition, the awards is not based on an issue to
issue basis, but is based on the entire scene year of
1996.
The yearly awards, so to speak, are only the opinion
of the Domination magazine.
We observe the releases and achievements of
individuals and groups and take judgement upon them
in our own way.
All groups, members and in general the entire scene
can recieve an award in this chapter.
In this chapter we give awards in the following
catogories:
Demo Group, Demo, Programmer, Musician, Graphician,
Cracking Group, Cracker, Ntsc Fixer, Game, Magazine
and Event.

DEMO GROUP OF THE YEAR AWARD
----------------------
CREST
Crest are back with some high quality releases. The
best graphics/effects demo ever on C64 was
released by them entitled 'Krestology' (reviewed in this
edition). This features some original C64 effects and
some of the best graphics you will ever witness on this
machine.
Also coming from them was three new graphics
formats, all coded by Crossbow. Super Hires Interlace
Fli, Super Hires Fli and Underlay Fli.
Will keep graphicians happy for quite sometime.
Also reviewed in this edition was their music demo
called 'Bondage', featuring exceptional ability from the
talented duo Mitch + Dane.
Runners Up:
BYTERAPERS for their sole release FOS 3, very nice!
REFLEX for MATHEMATICA and more recently NINE.
DEMO OF THE YEAR AWARD
------------------
FOLLOW THE SIGN 3
Byterapers certainly surprised a lot of people with
their good performance in Fos 3.
The demo features great graphics, excellent effects
and routines and certainly converts a lot of routines
from other platforms never before seen on the C64.
This demo also features a larger and better amount
of graphics than any of the other Byterapers demos,
such as the World Of Code series or more recently,
Extremes.
Mr.Sex/(B) certainly deserves credit for this release,
even though it's only 75 percent complete!
Runners up:
KRESTOLOGY by Crest, more graphical but really stylish
proving that you can make a better demo with C64 fx.
NINE by REFLEX certainly proves that Quiss wasn't the
entire part of this East German group, great stuff!
PROGRAMMER OF THE YEAR AWARD
-----------------------
CROSSBOW/CREST
Roland certainly has done some fine stuff.
The double sided, 40 track per side Krestology, being
a good example of how to stretch the C64 to it's limits
in terms of disk space and memory.
Some great effects and excellent designing assisted
by graphician Deekay certainly made this a demo to be
remembered.
Other works by him were three new graphic utilities
which opened up new horizons for the painters.
He is given the award because he stayed with the C64
effects and never went to big screen effects like a
lot of other groups have done.
Runners up:
MR.SEX/BYTERAPERS for his fine efforts in Follow the
sign 3.
QUISS/REFLEX for his good efforts in Mathematica.
MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD

MITCH + DANE/HYPE!/CREST
The talented duo have over the year of 1996 filled our
ears with some great tunes.
Their music-demo Bondage, being one of a very high
standard, their contributing musics to the Krestology
demo aswell as competition winning entries, magazine
tunes and the like have certainly proved a point.
Their ability to get good sounds from the C64, great
melody and generally going against the mainstream of
all the techno composers there are these days.
Runners up:
Jeff/HYPE!/Camelot for his comeback musics on C64,
featured in the demo NINE by Reflex, and especially for
his unique sounds in the Anal'ogue tune he entered at
The Party 6 in Denmark last December.
Morbid/BASS/Onslaught for two music collections last
year, magazine music and consistancy in quality.
GRAPHICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD
----------------------
DEEKAY/CREST/ONSLAUGHT
Daniel certainly proved he is amongst the best in the
business with his extraordinary paintings in the
Krestology demo released by Crest.
He has fully utilised the new graphic formats and
surprised quite a few people with his quality and sheer
amount of pictures and logos featured in the demo.
He has also done work for Onslaught and the magazine
Vandalism News, which features some nice graphics
such as the loading logo and the main Vandalism logo
itself. Not only in graphics, but design, as Krestology
was designed by both Crossbow and Deekay.
Runners up:
JOE/WRATH DESIGN for his great pictures, although
some are converted, he has persisted in quality.
TYRANT/THERAPY for some great full screen pictures
and for support graphics for the Chaotic Country mag
CRACKING GROUP OF THE YEAR AWARD
-------------------------
ALPHAFLIGHT 1970
Alphaflight persisted all year round with a fine amount
of first releases including some of the best games of
1996.
Dave Speed was released by them, a Giana sisters
style game that was very nice. They managed to
maintain a constant flow of releases, ntsc fix and 100
percent fix wares, having the fastest bbs in the scene
and also having web pages on the net and support on
the ftp sites. Thus proving they could manage and
utilise themselves confidentally and efficientally in the
cracking scene.
Runners up:
SUCCESS * TRC continued with a good flow of releases,
especially towards the latter part of the year.
CHROMANCE continued as a leading cracking group also
with many first releases, with even some full pricers.
CRACKER OF THE YEAR AWARD
--------------------
MOONCHILD/HITMEN
His great first release versions certainly told the
board scene of his talent in cracking games.
But speaking for himself most was the mail versions
of software, his cracks would always contain
numerous trainers, polish to english translations and
little things like bug fixing, one filing a multi filed game
ect that made his a good quality cracker.
Runners up:
JACK ALIEN/HITMEN earlier in Avantgarde and then in
F4cg, JA continued his fine quality with cracking and
ntsc fixing games.
IGNORANCE/ALPHAFLIGHT also fixing his releases aswell
as doing translations and 100 percent releases sure is
a good cracker.
NTSC/PAL FIXER OF THE YEAR AWARD
-------------------------
JOLZ/ONSLAUGHT
The year of 1996 Onslaught's code/fixer/cracker
certainly provided some hard ntsc fixes for the scene
Other groups simply could not bring out the ntsc
versions of first releases so Jolz tried his talent.
Fixes such as Burago Rally, Centric, Speedy Slug and
Misfortune surprised the scene. Only let down was the
quantity, but he certainly performed the most difficult
of the fixes that year.
Runners up:
PEACEMAKER/HITMEN for his consistant flow of Hitmen
ntsc/pal releases during 1996.
MASSIVE ONSLAUGHT/STYLE being the only fixer in the
United States to really standard out. MO did some great
ntsc fixing on several european legal releases under
the lable of Style.
DDK GAME OF THE YEAR AWARD
------------------
DAVE SPEED
This magnificient Giana Sisters style game was proudly
released by Alphaflight late last year.
Great graphics, game play and in general just
different from the mainstream puzzle game that a lot
of people make for a quick dollar.
Memories of former times on C64 flooded back with
this game, unfortunately unfixable for American users
Runners up:
MISFORTUNE by Everlasting Style was finally released
by Onslaught in the later part of the year.
This excellent platform style game reminds you of
Creatures by Apex Productions.
BOOM is a three-dimensional game which is both huge
and steaming with playability. Excellent intro sequence
and presentation graphics make this full price game
from 576 Kbyte a game worthy of your collection.
MAGAZINE OF THE YEAR AWARD
---------------------
DRIVEN
This American based one file magazine certainly has
provided some very good reading.
Over the entire of 1996 the Driven staff have
released a magazine on a consistant level, a magazine
that covers all aspects of the scene and will certainly
lead the ntsc scene out of recession.
The text unlike a lot of other magazines is completely
objective in every manner. We hope they will continue
their fine performances.
Runners up:
RELAX by Phuture (Software + Marketing) has been
released on a consistant level, providing the scene
with up to date informative editions.
VANDALISM NEWS by Onslaught Design gets an award for
their innovative original outfit seen in edition #27 and
broad scene coverage, more issues should have came.
EVENT OF THE YEAR
--------------
THE PARTY 6
This event was probably the largest event in 1996 in
terms of releases for the C64.
15 C64 demonstrations, 20 Graphics entries and 15
music entries certainly gave the mail scene something
to do.
Demos released by top names such as Reflex, Smash
Design, Graffity, Resource and Xenon boosted the
demo scene activities.
Runners up:
X-96 in Holland. Maybe not the largest amount of
releases, but in terms of pure scene enjoyment, this
would have to be one of the most talked about parties
all year!
ASSEMBLY'96 was the party which showed new and long
waited productions from groups like Byterapers,
Beyond Force and Wrath Designs.
So there you have it, remember these are only the
opinions of the Domination magazine.
