--------------------------------------- * Usa Scene * --------------------------------------- Dear Reader; Welcome to the 'Usa Scene' chapter, an informative on the latest happenings in the American NTSC scene. News is gathered from the boards based in America, over the Internet and in the successful publication known as 'Driven'. The American scene is rich in history and activity and justly deserves a seperate chapter. In consideration of the American scene being strongly connected to the boards, please find a listing of C64 bulletin boards at the end of this segment. In addition, more American news can be located in the regular News chapters. Contributions are warmly welcome, please leave feedback on any major American bbs or at the Domination editorial address. General Editor * VENOM are back in the scene once again. Legendary musician 'Image' has returned to compose and paint under the Venom lable. Kickback/Ex-Venom also returned to the group. Lastly Carcass joined in as a graphician. Venom Status: (12/1/1997) The Hobbit, Carcass, Guardian, Image, Kickback, Wsoft * A swapper called Randy joined Style. * Skyclad again goes under the handle of Moloch. He left Omni and with Carcass rebuilt Armageddon as a legal demo group. A demo is expected from them quite soon. * Edge of Midnight removed Onslaught from the bbs, the board is now the fastest in the world with the boost of the Super Cpu 20 mhz accelerator. Alphaflight later gained the board. * Final Genocide is back online, but as an independant board, the number to call is XXXXXXXXXXXX. * Both Holiday Inn Cambodia and The Evil Island changed numbers. HIC: XXXXXXXXXXXX and TEI: XXXXXXXXXXXX * Dungeon Master joined Motiv8 as artist/fixer/coder and remains in Zone 2 as his first group. He later left Motiv8 and joined Alphaflight. * Wsoft joined Venom as a programmer. * The American fanzine 'The Underground' merged with Softdisk Publishing's "Loadstar Letter". * Threshold Productions died but basically all that happened was a name change, they are now called Arkanix Labs and they will continue making games and tools and even some software for the Super Cpu! * One of the oldest boards in the Usa scene, Ironfang Keep, the Rpg Whq went down forever. Both Fubar/Rpg and Wraith/Rpg left the scene. * From Christmas Day The Bass Planet also became headquarters to Dutch based group Xenon. Which will be shared with Chromance. * Natas rejoined the scene and joined Chromance as ntsc fixer and coder, his second group is Carcass. * Holiday Inn Cambodia went down due to a hard drive crash, it should be online again sometime. Pol Pot, the sysop has been on the net channel #c-64 several times so things look promising. * The Ancient Mariner, sysop of The Evil Island has been put in the inactive list of Alphaflight until his bbs is back online again. * Fungus joined Carcass as a programmer. * The Dungeon was on unstable ground as it was probable that it would go down forever on the 26th of February due to some isdn problems Alchemist was having with the phone company. But the problem got fixed and the board will continue to stay online. * CMD (Creative Micro Designs) announced that they will discontinue the production of the Swift Link modem interface and replace it with the new 'Turbo 232 This new interface enhances the ability to use modern modems by adding three new high speed modes of 57.6 kbps, 115.2 kbps and an extremely fast 230 kbps!! The 'Turbo 232' is retailing at 39.95 US dollars, * Aahz who was previously known as Asmodeus, who had left the scene in 1994 rejoined once again. He now has joined Carcass as a graphician and musician. Carcass status: Aahz, Fungus, Jovan, Natas, Pinball Wizard. * Style status: Alter Ego, Deathlok, Decomp, Dw, Elwix, Firefoot, Massive Onslaught, Pk, Randy, Ray, Repose, Sphere, Warnock and The Wiz. * Probe is the new demo coing from Armaggedon. Armaggedon status: Moloch: code, Carcass: graphics. * NTSC cooperation demo! Everyoe who wishes to contribute must sed a email to Natas/Carcass/Chromance at: XXXXXXXXXXXX He wants to know your handle, what you will do (code, music or art), how many times you will do each job and ONE suggestion for the demo name. Teams will be randomly selected with 1 coder, 1 artist and 1 musician and then be announced. Each team must do one 100 percent original demo part. The demo will be multi-filed. The parts must be given no later than April 1st to Natas in unpacked form with the start address! If you email, use UUencoded or MIME. The demo will be linked and released on April 3rd.
