To start off with, you will need paper
(A4 is a good size to use). Next up,
 comes your drawing materials.....

Well, if you are going to photo-copy
your piece of artwork for spreading
then a good choice to make is a BLACK
pen or a HARD lead pencil (or use
 both!!!).

Before you even put pen to paper, you
should have at least some kind of idea
of what you wanna lay down on paper.

If you find ORIGINALITY, is hard to
find - then look for other kinds of
 inspiration. The following will give
 you some ideas.....

@ MUSIC - always good for ideas
           just imagine your listening
           to some HARD-CORE punk
           music. What is the first
           thing that fills your head
           (besides the sound!)... the
images in my head would be
           ANARCHY, ANGER, DESTRUCTION.
           So, you draw those images
           (you choose what ever music
           you like!!!).

@ TATTOO MAGS - these give some cool
                 images. But, DO NOT
                 do a straight COPY of
                 the chosen pic you are
                 looking at - modify it
                 to suit you!!!

@ COMIC BOOKS - good for comic ideas
                 (enough said!!!).

@ PORNO MAGS - good for drawing the
                (female/male) human
                form. Don't think SEX
                think about the bodies
                shape and you will
                learn a lot.

@ OTHER COVERS - take a good long look
                  at some of these guys
                  work and learn by how
                  they draw (I DID++).
                  ELECTRIC, DUCE, fX,
                  JUNKIE, REEKOL, and
                  many more (all cool).

Now you've got an idea select what
type of pen you are going to use.
For my drawings I like to use a FINE
LINE pen. The best pens to buy have
got to be ROTRING, they are quite
expensive so if your just starting
out then you could just use a cheap
fine line pen (I use these quite a
lot and only use my ROTRING pens for
 real fine artwork designs.

I am also a bit experimental with my
art. Just by using an old piece of
sponge and some (black) paint you can
get some great effects down on paper
just by simply dipping the sponge in
the paint and then pressing it against
the paper (very nursery school - but
 the effect is good!).

Also, cutting up news paper letters
you can create simple and effective
 POISON PEN-LETTER style logos!!!

Or if you want to experiment even
further, get yourself an AIR BRUSH.
These can be quite expensive (coz
you also have to by aerosol cans of
CO2 gas - or you can buy electric
powered air pumps but these are a
 lot more expensive!!!).

Sooner or later you may want to buy
a drawing board (I've got an A3 size
 one but I don't like using it. I don't
feel I have the freedom of moving the
 paper around).

Other equipment you should have in
 your art kit is...

@ PUTTY RUBBER - for pencil mistakes!
 @ RULER - I use a ROTRING one.
 @ COLOURED PENCILS.
 @ WATER COLOUR PAINTS.
@ CRAYONS - CRAYOLA are best!
@ CHARCOAL STICKS - use like pencils
                     and can be smudged
                     with the finger
                     easy to create
                     good blending
                     effects.

Well, it's up to you now get designing
it's great fun. But, don't RUSH a pic
you are drawing (unless it's cartoon)
try and work on it for about a week
and watch the picture gradually grow
 into something of beauty!!!

The longest I have ever worked on a
piece of artwork was 19 days when I
 entered the ELECTRIC AND DUCE/EXTEND
 cover compo (I came 7th!!!).

Anyway, if you do design covers I
would really like to hear from you
(and to see your artwork). So, write
 to.....

cover designed for your group free

Thanx for reading and I hope I've
inspired someone to create some cool
 artwork ????????????????????????????
