FANTASTIC FOUR CRACKING GROUP (F4CG)
-- ------------------------------------------------- --
Things aren't so good these days with the fantastic
ones. One example showing this is the fact that DMC,
FUNGUS and SNEAPER left them and rejoined them
again only 12 hours later due to some internal
misunderstandings.
Anyway, they got their FTP-Site called INTERPARK
online again. Reach it under: bbs.cc.uniud.it

group.

seems like he'll become real active again like in
older times. Time will tell... .
They also got MAGICMAN to join them. He'll be in them
besides CRAZY.

ONSLAUGHT (O)
-- ------------------------------------------- --
Due to their inactivity BIZARRE, MR. BRAIN and RAP
got put on the inactive status.
But for that they gained MANIAC as cracker,
supplier and graphican, who left LEGEND for them.
Later on also TEKTRONICS (former known as MATT of
MYSTIC) came in for the same jobs.
RAMIREZ left them.
The (O)-guys haven't been seen on the boards lately.

According to GRAHAM, BIZ KID wants to come back and
rejoin them. Let's see...

ROLE (R)
-- --------------------------------------------- --
Their memberstatus seems to explode, but still we're
missing the old good quality from them...
Anyway, D.JAY joined them as a composer.
LEMING teamed up with them as his 4th group and
RESTIVE also enlarged their forces.
GOLD left the scene.

COMMENTS :
-------------
In the legal part of the scene there aren't many big
surprises. BYTERAPERS INC. are on top of the demo
group charts. But they might lose this position very
soon because CREST are climbing on and on. Also
TABOO will make a big jump soon, I guess. Their long
delayed ALTERED STATES 50% is one of the best
demos in last years...
Also in the categories of graphicans and composers
the CREST-guys are on top without any real
occupents...
FAZEE/TABOO will probably leave the charts soon as
he left the scene after releasing his last collection
about 3 months ago...

SUCCESS AND THE RULING COMPANY are still on the
number one spot. And they really deserve it with
their nice flow of warez.
Maybe ONSLAUGHT will be higher within the next
issues, because they showed good activity lately.

MOONCHILD on top of the cracker charts is a huge
surprise, although he did some nice mail cracks
recently.

Releasecharts August

                    Releasecharts August 1997
                   --------------------------

Welcome once again to the Releasecharts in
                   THE CREST !
Again some action took place in the 64-scene, so
enjoy the next pages.. .

The boards were we take the releases from are:
The Dungeon +X-XXX-XXX-XXXX
The Bass Planet +X-XXX-XXX-XXXX
Deadzone +X-XXX-XXX-XXXX

But first I'll explain my rules again... .

                                                [+]
The pointsystem:
0.X for previews
2.X for low-budget-games
3.X for budget-games
5.X for fullprice-games

-5 for the re-release of a full game
-1 for the re-release of a preview
-1 for a fixfile or a 2nd version

Fakelabel-releases won't be counted.
Basicgames, compiled basicgames, gamemakergames
and tools we get no points.

1 extra point will be given for something special.
This can be a special feature in a crack, an [+]
impressing tool, or.?!

-1 point will be given for not translating the whole
text of a game into english. It's not neccessary to
translate the grafix too, but if the game uses no
text, only grafix, they have to be translated fully!

-1 points will also be given for a bad crack. That
means for example no levelpacking, bugging parts of
the game.. .

If a game is fixed PAL/NTSC it will get 2 points added
to the points for the game. If the game was released
as PAL-version before, it will get one point added.
If a 2nd group is involved in the fix, the points will
be shared... [+]
Make sure it's a real fix, and not only slowing down
the music. If the fix isn't needed at all, I'll give the
PAL-points only.

A fixed version of a game has to be released within'
6 months after the PAL-version to get points.

The same goes for a PAL-fixed version of an NSTC-
game. If a release has one or maybe more smaller
bugs, the group has 24 hours time to release a
fixfile or 2nd version. But I mean small bugs!

But now let's go on with THE LIST for August '97!
Happy reading... !!!

                                                   [+]
F4CG (swe, aut, usa............) -0,9 points
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
First they put out the so called 100%-version of
PLASM (-5 pts.), which got firstreleased by HITMEN.
They only one difference is that they slowed down
the music. So I had to count this as a re-release!
Later they put out the fixed version of MR. ANT
(4,1 pts) a quite lame polish game.
I guess it was also hard for them to recognize, that
SCS*TRC put out a working version of ICE GUYS!
So I had to take the points for that game from F4CG
away. But this will only influence the complete
Releasecharts for 1997!

                                                   [+]
HITMEN (ger, swe, usa..............) 10,1 points
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess it was a huge shock for the scene, but they
made a real comeback in the illegal scene with
putting out a lot of games.
They started with the preview of CROSS INVERT2
(0,4 pts.). Later the same day they put out two
previews, called BARREL BUNGER (0,4 pts.) and
MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE (0,9 pts.). They finished their
comeback-day with releasing the fixed version of
PLASM (4,2 points).
Some days later they continued their warez-rush
with putting out the fixed version of COLEE (4,2 pts.)
and the preview-versions of LABE ME (0,1 pts.) and
ON TABLE. Since they put their version of the
ON TABLE-preview only on THE DUNGEON, ONSLAUGHT [+]
used their chance and put their version on DEADZONE
and BASS PLANET and took the points away!

LAXITY (ger, hol, den...) (4,2 points)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
They put out the fixed version of WORDS DON'T COME
EASY (4,2 pts.) and gained some points again.

ONSLAUGHT (aut, pol, ger...) (3,1 points)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After some trouble they proved that they really
fixed THE CASTLE. I'll give them the points in this
issue and correct this for the Releasecharts for
1997 too. I also decided to make some kids smile
again and gave them one extra-point for the gfx-
translation! They also managed to get the points [+]
for ON TABLE-preview with being faster on most
us-boards!

SCS AND TRC (hol, ger, usa.) (3,9 points)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The guys in SCS*TRC finally released a working
version of ICE GUYS (3,9 pts.) and ripped off the
points from F4CG!

This was all for August'97! And now over to the
complete list.. .

Scooby-Profile

                   LEGAL PROFILE OF THE MONTH
                   --------------------------
In this issue's legal interview of the month you get
to know some interesting things about SCOOBY/LIGHT!
Enjoy it...

?:Hi Frederik! We're glad to have you here in this
profile of the month. What about a short
  description of yourself?!?

!:Well. This is my 23rd year on the globe, and I live
in a town called Halmstad located in the south-
west of sweden. I'm studying computer-engineering
at the Halmstad university, and this is my 3rd
year, and I'm incredibly tired of studying right
now. In my sparetime I'm playing bowling, learning
java, partying, skating with my rollerblades and
doing some C64 graphics for our hopefully soon
  coming demo.

?:How did you get into the world of the bits and
bytes and why on the CBM64?

!:I think I found my own way to the scene. I started
swapping with lost of groups and one day when the
sun was shining I joined a swedish demogroup
called EQUINOXE. And this is where the saga begins,
  hehe.
Why 64? Well, at that point there was no other cool
scene, and since I loved the 64 there was no other
  joice for me.

?:Well known as a great artist, have you ever tried
doing other jobs like coding or composing?

!:Infact I have done some simple coding, too. But
since we had some really good coders in our group
I felt that I wasn't really needed in the
programming-division, and since I enjoy drawing,
this was the only right thing to do.

?:Yeah, that was the right choice, we can say.. ;)
And what exaclty made you start learning to do
  graphics?

!:Hmmm... I think I saw the possibilities in drawing on
the 64. And believe me, when I say that it's
actually real fun to paint on the 64! On Amiga or PC
you can use a lot of predefined effects to make
your graphics a lot cooler, but not on the 64.

?:For how long have you been in the scene then and
who belongs to your best friends?

!:I'm in the scene now for about 9 to 10 years.
My best friends are the other LIGHT guys like
GOBLIN, FLAMINGO (KING-JAVA), YABBA and some
  other really nice guys!

?:Back in time, which were the first groups you
  joined?

!:I think that was.. ehhhh?.. FCS.. Heard of it? Don't
think so. It was q quite lame group. I don't want to
discuss it, since I woke up this morning and felt
very happy and plan to be happy all day... ;)

?:Ah.. understand! So, are you still active on the
CBM64? What are you doing right now?

!:At the moment I'm not very active, since I've got a
lot of schoolwork to finish, but we're planning to
release our new demo as soon as possible. At the
moment I'm learning java, and it's really HOT!!!

?:Now over to something tricky... What in your eyes
is the difference between the old and new school
scene, and what would you change to bring back
  the old former days?

!:All the really great demo legends have quitted, like
HORIZON (Hi BADGER!), FLASH, CREST, FAIRLIGHT,
CENSOR... (ed.: no, some are still active... especially
CREST)... and lots of other really great demo
groups, so if I had one wish, I'd bring back those
to the scene, because those days where REAAALLY
  great!

?:Is there any phenomena in particular in the scene
or maybe certain dudes you don't like in the
  scene?

!:No, since I don't have any real enemies in the
scene, I think I'll say some good things instead... :)

?:Now please give us your favourites concerning...
  Demo group: CREST

  Coder: KJER/HORIZON, CROSSBOW/CREST,
                 YABBA/LIGHT, FLAMINGO/LIGHT

   Graphican: GOTCHA

   Musican: JCH

   Cracker group: TRIAD

   Cracker: INJUN/LIGHT

   Magazine: yours!!! =)

   Game: LAST NINJA 1-3
   Tool: AMICA PAINT

   Girl: PAMELA ANDERSSON

   Sex: Loadsa!

   Food: Fondue

   Drink: Coca Cola

Music: Techno, ENYA, ENIGMA, MIKE OLDFIELD

Book: "Teach yourself Java in 21 days" (hehe!)

   Movie: TERMINATOR 2 .maybe...

?: And how does your dreamteam on the C64 look like?

!: Combining great code with great design is really
important and I know that we in LIGHT are not very
good at that, so I'd like some really great coders
like YABBA, CROSSBOW and some other CREST dudes,
FLAMINGO, BADGER, KJER, GEGGIN, SHARK and a bunch
of great graphicans like GOTCHA, REDSTAR, GOBLIN
and a few others.. And of course myself!!! (Ehhh??
Naaah! I would just set a lower standard if I were
   in that team! Hehehe!!! ).

?: Who in your very own opinion belongs to the best
   artists from past and present?

!: GOTCHA, REDTAR, CREEPER (Hi there!) and DRAGON.
?: What can we expect from you and LIGHT in the
   future?

!: Be aware of our new mega demo.. It will be ass
   kicking!

?: So, please give us a memberstatus of LIGHT and
   what does each member do!

!: SCOOBY - graphics, hardware, internet
             (LIGHTWWW: http://www.hh.se/stud/d94fa/
                        light/light.html

   YABBA - coding

   GOBLIN - graphics, swapping
   FLAMINGO - coding

   INJUN - cracking

   TYCOON - cracking

   WACO - coding

   RASH - coding

   ICECUDE - coding, cracking

?: Now something very different and maybe difficult
to answer. What is ELITE in your definition?

!: ELITE, in my eyes, is probably a really good
demo group, and since I don't think that cracking
games is something hard to do, I don't consider a
really good cracking group to the elite.
   DEMO GROUPS RULE!

?: What is your personal advice to all the demo
   procuding groups concerning their future
   projects?

!: INNOVATE, DON'T IMITATE!What's the fun of doing
something that someone else already did (except
for making it better, of course). New ideas are the
   best!

?: Now some brainstorming.... What comes into your
   mind when I say...
   Legend: MR Z

   Lamer: AARON/FAIRLIGHT

   Parties: HORIZON easter party

   Animals: Cats are nice.

   MSI: Cool!

PC: Arghhh.. using it a lot, but definetly
               don't like it!

   Friendship: No. 1

   Nudes: Can't live without it!
   Sweden: Fucking cold winters!

I-net: Can't live without that too!

Crest: What can I say... A blast from the past!

?: So, we nearly finished the interview now. Here's
your chance to say what you always wanted to say!

!: Actually that's not much really. It was really nice
to get interviewed and I also got a break from my
   studying.

?: What about some greetings and stuff?

!: Greets to all the C64 dudes I know and all the
others! Keep up the good work!

?: Yeah, that's the end of this profile.. So I better
   let you go now...

!: Ok, think I'll run back to my studying now... Take
   care all out there!

Weasel-Profile

                  ILLEGAL PROFILE OF THE MONTH
                 --------------------------------

Feel warmly welcome to this month's interview with a
legend from the illegal part of the scene.
As this is the first time that I (Dodger) made an
interview ,please don't expect too much.... But it
isn't that bad at all.
Anyway, here we proudly present a smalltalk with a
famous old school cracker, who once was a member
of crews like CRAZY and ENIGMA. It's noone less than

               > WEASEL/HITMEN <

Enjoy it...

?:Nice to have you in this interview, Weasel!
First of all please introduce yourself to our
  readers!

!:My name is Juergen. But on the C64 I'm more known
as WEASEL. I'm 27 years old, 174 centimeters tall,
have darkblonde hair and live in Muenchen, one of
  the biggest cities in Germany.
Currently I'm working for an internet tv show
called Netnight on the german channel ZDF.

?:Your active days on the C64 are gone for a long
time now. Please try to make some kind of brief
  summary concerning your scene history!

!:I got my CBM 128 (no C128 D !!!) back in 1984 and
first got the stuff at school from some friends.
And I really got hooked to the intros and the
cracks in general. So my interest started to grow
and later a friend of mine and me founded a group
  called POWERSOFT INC.!
Then once when I was skating I got to know a
scener, who was known as ZOUNDS/FRONTLINE. He
became a good friend of mine and he took me to a
meeting of his group. They also offered me to join
them.. But only when I cracked a game called IKARI
WARRIOR until the next meeting. So I did it and they
liked it and then I became a member of FRONTLINE.
Then I got to know DEEJAY as well, who was the
only cracker in FRONTLINE at that time.

?:So, that was the one you worked together with...
Later on you were well-known as DEEJAY and
  WEASEL, weren't you?!?

!:Yeah, we worked together. But at the beginning I
learned more fom him than worked together with
  him.

?:And how does your story continue then?

!:After some time FRONTLINE changed its name to
MATRIX. And since then we really worked as one
  cracking team.
Then I got to know GOTCHA/CRAZY, who moved to my
town and luckilly became a classmate of mine. When
MATRIX died I had the chance to join CRAZY and of
course did it without any hesitation.
Some years later some old MATRIX members decided
to come together again and formed a group which
was known as LOTUS. So, when CRAZY and LOTUS
went into coop I got together with them as well.
Later the coop splitted of course and I stayed in
CRAZY while DEEJAY was in LOTUS. So, we were split
  for the first time. :(
Then we both joined CREST and later on we moved
  on to ENIGMA.
Then I somehow lost my activity, because I was
also active on the Amiga now. But in 1993 I also left
that behind and got myself a Pc!

?:Hmmm, interesting!
And now please give us your personal favourites
in the scene concerning the following subjects...
!:Cracker_____    :DEEJAY, EXCELL, FIST, COUNT ZERO,
                   MR. ZEROPAGE

Cracking group :1001 CREW, TRIAD, IKARI+TALENT,
                   IKARI, FAIRLIGHT, DYNAMIC DUO

   Coder_______   :CROSSBOW, MAGICMAN, ONEWAY-guys,
                   YETIFACTORIES-guys, JACK ALIEN,
                   RYGAR

Demo group___  :COSMOS DESIGNS, CENSOR DESIGN,
                   CREST, UPFRONT, LIGHT CIRCLE,
                   REFLEX

   Artist_______: GOTCHA, GBF-DESIGN, the gfx'er
                    from X-AMPLE
Composer_______: JEROEN TEL, DRAX, JCH, F.A.M.E.,
                           MANIACS OF NOISE, VIBRANTS,
                           MARTIN GALWAY, RUB HUBBARD

Most liked scener_: DEEJAY, PUDWERX, BUTCHER,
                       DEFF, KRISTIAN ROSTOEN

Most hated scener   : No one!

?: Well, a nice list!
Since you are a cracker.... What was more important
   for you: Quality or quantity?!?

!: QUALITY of course!!! Fastcracks really suck, in my
opinion. I always tried to release the for me best
possible version of a game. I always disliked these
fast cracks. And it's a pity that later these fast
cracks were dominating. For me this destroyed the
scene. One example: Once GENESIS PROJECT
released MIDNIGHT RESISTANCE. They ripped and
cracked it on a party, so that means very quick.
And that version was really poor! They only made
a +2 trainer and used a very slow loader. Later I
also cracked that game and made a +10 trainer,
used a quick loader and made the game only about
half as long on disc as their version!

?: Yeah, my opinion! Anyway, you are inactive since
ages now, but always still got good contact to the
scene.. Will we now have the pleasure to maybe see
some cracks from you under the HITMEN label?

!: I won't promise much concerning this fact, but I'll
make some cracks for sure! But it'll take some
time, because I've got to relearn some things and
remind me of how to crack.

?: What do you think of the fact that the CBM64
scene goes more and more the way of the
   superinformation highway, the Internet?

!: Since I met old friends of mine and also got to
know new fellas in the Internet, I think it's a good
way to go. NetBBs' like 2ND To NONE make it
possible to be on the boards again. The bad thing
about it is that maybe the C64 will die faster
because of this, for exmaple the mail-trading! And
with that the scene spirit would leave too.
So, it has got a good side and a bad side. The
Internet is a k00l addition to the scene, but it
   isn't everything!

?: Don't you think that some parts of the C64 scene
   have died yet?

!: Hmmm... Everything changes once, so does the
scene! Old guys leave, new ones come to take their
   position.
But the scene spirit of the C64 is still much better
   than in other scenes.

?: And what do you think of the decreasing board
   scene?

!: It's getting more and more difficult to call out and
so the Internet is the easiest way. So it's logical
that the board scene decreases, isn't it?!?
The old scene is morphing into a new one.
Unfortunately many of the good old things get
lost, but there's still something left. It's the job
of the newcomers to fulfill the spaces of the gone
legends and to get the spirit and also to give it to
   the next generation.

?: That are the right words for a good ending of this
interview, I think. Would you like to greet someone?

!: Best regards to DEEJAY, ZOUNDS, GOLDRUSH, all
CRAZY-guys and many many other ones.

For a complete greetingslist you should try the
   GENESIS PROJECT homepage at...

Internetwise I'm also a user of ICQ, that's a tool

My number on ICQ is 618648. If you want to use it
as well then try one of the following sites...

?: Okay, thank you for sharing your time with us...

!: No problem.. Bye!

Please notice: This interview was made live via
phonecalls. And I only made some
notes of what WEASEL said, so this
isn't authentic. That means that the
facts are correct, but WEASEL didn't
say it exactly with these words.

Demo Reviews

HIGHER LOVE by GRAFFITY PRODUKTS
    - Released at the Party6 -

Sorry for reviewing such an old demo, but we think
that it's better to review it late than never!
Anyway, thanks a lot for doing this nice review go to:

Coding: SCROLL/MEGASTYLE
Graphics: HARDSEQUENCER/DYTEC
Musics: MITCH/CREST
The demo starts with the usual blue CBM64 screen
with a gigantic black text scrolling in, saying "We-
are back!" while it breaks the borders. After that,
a Hungarian flag consisting of small balls appears.
Then some logos presenting the demo appear, soon
to be replaced by a "Higher Love" picture with 2
diagonal sprite DYCPs moving over it. Very nice!

After some loading you see a Graffity logo (single-
colour) with a large moving ball. The logo disappears
and there are two balls moving around, zooming and
EOR'ing (ie: when the balls touch each other, the
colours are mixed).

The next part consists of a pic in Advanced-Hires.
It is in 320x200 resolution without interlace and 3-4
colours.

The next part comprises a Vector-Shadow-Ball con-
sisting of 400 dots, which rotates and transforms
into other circular objects.

In the next part you are told to be watching 1000
dots, but it seems more like 4-5 moving circular lines
forming a rotating ball.

During the loading of the next part you see a little
Sideborderjackpotscroller in which even Megastyle
are greeted even though my (Scroll's) swapping
collapsed a while ago.

Next a Koala pic appears, followed by a 4x4 Zoomer/
Rotator, which soon is terminated and replaced with
the same routine in 2x2 resolution! This is also the
End-part.

This is a trackmo, so it's not possible to press
space anywhere. There is a little glitch at the end
of the demo. It doesn't reset the drive, so you must
turn it off/on manually when the demo ends.

Graffity released some very great demos in the past
( Justintime and Justincase ), so I guess the ex-
pectations were big for this demo. In my eyes this
demo is not as good as their earlier ones, so I'll
give it a rating of 77%.Nevertheless,this should have
been the winning demo at the Party6, in my opinion.
Too bad that the Pc-lamers were allowed to vote.
They aren't able to understand and appreciate c64-
specific routines, so they vote for the demos with
Pc-converted routines and Doom-stuff.

                                SCROLL/MEGASTYLE
                                -----------------------
The first hires-gfx showing "We are back!" is quite
simple. Too simple, in my opinion!
Up next is a Interlace-fli font that reads "Graffiti
produkt presents" and it's grey coloured and
flickers a lot. It's nothing special...
The next one is a "Higher love" fullscreener also in
I-Fli! The letters are black and the background is
filled. And the filling is the same as in the font
before, expect that it's red and not grey coloured...
That's not so good...
Another gfx is a "Graffity"-logo in koala in the
circles part.. The logo features only one colour
(lightgrey) and the letters have a boring form...
The next picture is a real kicker! It's in advanced
hires and shows an old man with a beard sitting on
something like a throne! Brown and lightgrey were
used as maincolours, what looks really k00l! This
picture is pixelled very exactly. I love that one!
In the shadow ball part you can see a great 6 colour
font! It's very nice und the colourfades in the
letters were well painted.
The demo continues with a quite beautiful hires-logo
reading "Graffity" again.. The letterstyle is very
interesting. A k00l idea!
Next you can see a picture by CYBORTECH. It
features a part of a face with an eye between two
fingers. The whole piccy is mostly red coloured. The
idea isn't that bad, but the painter used to many
fades. Seldom there were the pure colours used...
A pitty! So this koala-picture is only average.
The last logo is again a "Graffity" one and it's in
koala! It features a great letterstyle and also nice
colourfades.... Nothing bad about this one from
CYBERTECH.

So, all in all the gfx in the demo are a little above
average! The used fonts are mostly quite nice, too!
All graphics were done by OLLIE, except indicated,
of course! I give 62% !!!

                              -------------------
The "intro"-tune by BRIAN/GRAFFITY:
Reminds of a typical RADBREKKJERS-tune in the same
style as a GLENN or KJELL NORD0 tune. Almost like a
gameshow-tune, and it's quite refreshing to hear
such a tune after having to listen to all those
techno intros. The sounds are just right for this
sort of tune. No bugs regarding the tune I can hear
of.
Skill: 50% Originality: 80% Sounds: 80% > 70%

The "ballscreen"-tune by TAKI/NATURAL BEAT:
Hmmm, this makes me think of a DRAX-tune featured
in KRESTOLOGY. A pretty simple tune, but somewhat
groovy. Nothing happens in the tune though, and it
makes it a boring one. I like the use of
ringmodulation in general, and in this case it sounds
decent as well. Otherwise, I don't fancy the sounds
much.
Skill: 40% Originality: 20% Sounds: 40% > 34%

The "advanced hires"-tune by BRIAN/GRAFFITY:
A rip-off from a classical tune? I really don't know,
but it sounds a bit inspired by J.S. Bach. I'm not
saying that it is, cause it sounds nice actually.
Clean and clear, but it could easily have been done a
bit more interesting and innovative.
Skill: 50% Originality: 30% Sounds: 50% > 44%

The "shadow ball"-tune by PEET/CHORUS:
Very poplike, but with quite common (read boring)
chords. The drum score is a disaster really. No
offence! The good thing about the tune is that the
composer has used echo on the lead (read different
volumes in the lead voice). This is used much too
seldom, and that's a nice thing.
Skill: 30% Originality: 30% Sounds: 50% > 37%

The "greetings"-tune by BRIAN/GRAFFITY:
Hehehe.. This makes me think of something I did in
the late 80s. Almost like something DRAX or METAL did
during the same period. I find that the chord
structure seems a bit influenced by the stuff
CHARLES DEENEN did for the SCOOP demo THAT'S THE
WAY IT IS, but then again: You could do worse that
doing so...
Skill: 40% Originality: 15% Sounds: 50% > 35%

The "zoompart"-tune by BRIAN/GRAFFITY:
Yes, I like this one. Catchy and a very happy tune
overall. I like the chord progression, and it's very
easy to make nice leads for it. Well done! The
bassline is very simple, but just right for this kind
of tune. Too bad the tune fades so soon, as it's a
suitable endtune, but we don't get to hear much of
it.  :(
Skill: 60% Originality: 40% Sounds: 60% > 54%

The "note"-tune by FANTA/OXYRON:
Typical funkstuff with a terrible ringmodulation. The
bassline needs a whole lot more variation, and that's
a pity since the bass sound is quite nice. The sounds
used for the chords are really crummy.... Sorry!
Another thing that occured to me was that the
composer seems to have run out of inspiration after
the intro sequence regarding the lead. Too bad
really, since the chords are quite harmonic and easy
to make leads for. And about the chords, btw, can't
anyone make some NEW chords?!? These chords are
used in almost EVERY tune that is supposed to be a
funky intro- or notetune.. No valuation for this one,
because it isn't a real part of the demo...

So, all in all the musics in this demo are average.
Tune wise this demo deserves 46% !!!

Graphic Reviews

                            GRAPHIC REVIEWS
                         - --------------- -

Hello everyone! This time we bring you reviews of the
competition graphics from the ASSEMBLY 1997. The
results there were as follows...

1.SCISSORS by ELECTRIC/EXTEND
2. LEON by TYRANT/THERAPY
3. ASTRAL PRINCESS by DEBRIS/PANIC

So, now let's have a closer look at each picture...

SCISSORS by ELECTRIC/EXTEND
------------------------------
This interlace-fli picture shows a metal skull with
long brown hair. The skull seems to be a little bit
Terminator inspired. In the lower background you can
also see the nice right side of a woman's face. All in
all the skull has very good proportions and forms.
Concerning these points the piccy is nearly perfect.
But there's one bad thing: the colours! It's too
colourful, in my opinion. The many colours destroy
the mood the pic should express. The flickering of
this i-fli piece isn't going on your nerves, so that is
a plus.
Anyway, this picture is the best of all competitors
and really deserved the first place.
                                             > 78%
LEON by TYRANT/THERAPY
--------------------------------------
On that interlace-fli piece you can see LEON (=actor
Jean Reno) from the movie LEON-THE PROFI with a gun.
It features a k00l perspective, which is a 3d like!
That really kicks ass! Also the shapes (especially
the hand) and colourfades are well done. Not so good
is the boring background! It shows only a white wall
and blue heaven fading into white... The flickering of
the piccy is okay, but the colours are too bright
(too much white) to make it flicker not so much.
All in all I like this one too! K00l motiv, great
perspective and shapes, but too bright and white!

                                          > 71%

ASTRAL PRINCESS by DEBRIS/PANIC
------------------------------------------
That is a fantasy picture in interlace-fli. It displays
a nearly naked man with a woman to his knees holding
up his sword into the sky. In the background are
other planets and/or moons and behind and infront
of the 2 people are obscure objects. That motiv is
very ugly, although the figures aren't painted that
bad at all. The background is too simple and flickers
a lot.
Technically this picture isn't so bad, but the motiv
is so ugly that I don't like it that much. It's just
nothing but normal average...

                                               > 53%

EVIL/GLOW by MIKE/BYTERAPERS INC.
-----------------------------------------------
This interlace-fli piece shows a blue (!!!) woman in
something like a S/M-outfit kneeing in the red floor.
The woman's shapes are painted very badly and it
flickers a lot because of too many mixed colours
being used by the painter. The background is nearly
pure red and so very boring.
I'm very disappointed by this picture. I expected
more from MIKE after what I saw from him before...
I don't like this picture!

                                           > 35%

HAUHAUCHAMP by JER/PANIC
----------------------------------------
Another picture in interlace-fli! But this one is even
worse! It nearly undefinable what this should be. It
seems to display 2 black/white photos on a brown
background. On one photo you can see a dog's head
(???) and for the other one you need supernatural
fantasy... It's simply ugly! The flickering is okay, but
it could be better.
Anyway, this picture is converted! You can see it in
certain places of the piccy.. But it's just
unbelievable how someone can convert a picture and
still make the pic look so ugly?!? Argh!

                                          > 0%

KAZMAZIN by ZTRI
--------------------------
That one is also in interlace-fli and shows four
naked women standing in a row. It all looks a little
bit cyber space like with some abstract colours and
that 3d effect. The girls are very ugly and so is the
whole picture. The piccy is flickering quite much, the
reason for this are too many mixed colours.
All in all this one is really poor.

                                          > 28%

SKWEEK by AGEMIXER/ATLANTIS
------------------------------------------
On this koala picture you can see a hand pushing a
mouse on a mousepad. But it isn't a computer mouse,
it's a real living mouse! And the mouse shouts
"SKWEEK!". The piccy is painted in comic style, but
even that wasn't done very good, although that
isn't very hard to do. The shapes are done badly and
the motiv isn't that good anyway, in my opinion.
There is much more possible in koala and even in
comic styled pictures. That piece is a very BAD
example!

                                             > 7%

SUPERSTAR by TEMPEST/PANIC
--------------------------------------------
Another koala picture. This one displays a big brown
fish. The filling of the fish is very good, but the
background is too simple! It's just pure black with
a small blue star, what doesn't look nice. The fish's
eye and mouth aren't that good too. The mouth seems
like a big black hole... Something's missing.
Technically this picture is above average, but the
motiv is very boring. With an interesting background
this one would have been much better...

                                            > 36%

That were all competition pictures.

So, my personal ranking would look like this...

1. SCISSORS by ELECTRIC/EXTEND 78%
2. LEON by TYRANT/THERAPY 71%
3. ASTRAL PRINCESS by DEBRIS/PANIC 53%
4. SUPERSTAR by TEMPEST/PANIC 36%
5. EVIL GLOW by MIKE/BYTERAPERS INC. 35%
6. KAZMAZIN by ZTRI 28%
7. SKWEEK by AGEMIXER/ATLANTIS 7%
8. HAUHAUCHAMP by JER/PANIC 0%

Comparing to the results from the party there are
no differences in the top 3.
But that isn't very surprising as these 3 pictures
are a lot better than the rest.
Anyway, I expected better pictures from this party.
Except the pieces from ELECTRIC and TYRANT the
graphics weren't good, in my opinion.

That's it for the graphic reviews this time...

Speaker's Corner

                           SPEAKER'S CORNER
                           -----------------
Another month, another SPEAKER'S CORNER.
This time HARDSEQUENCER is gonna speak out in his
view on today's graphicans, graphics and styles.

Today's world of graphics on our CBM64 is some kind
of pervert. Too many wanna-be-artists painting too
many pictures in too many graphic modes. But the
worst thing is the lack of real styles, in my opinion.
Anyway, let's take this topic step by step...
There are surely still some really great artists
around these days. But what is a great artist? For
me it's someone, who makes beautiful pictures that
really use the possiblities of the used graphic mode.
And in a good pic you can also see that the painter
had fun painting this picture or that he was in a
certain mood.
Most gfx'ers these days use the interlace-fli mode
just only because it's hip, without using any of the
possibilities this mode gives. I mean, what is it all
about? Sometimes I see i-fli pics with only 2 colours,
so why didn't the painter use the hires-mode?!? Hires
is such a great mode... You can really make k00l and
stylish pictures with it. You just only need your own
style and a good idea. But I guess hires is said to be
soooo lame, because it's just a so old mode.... Arghhh!
The same goes for the koala-mode.... In this mode you
can really see, who can deal with limited
possibilities. It's all just a matter of setting the
colours at the right position. But for most gfx'ers
dealing with that seems to be too much work.... That's
the way I see it!
Another thing that goes on my nerves is that today
quantity seems to count more than quality. Just for
example take guys like CUPID and RRR. They make too
many logos and stuff... I really can't understand why
they are voted so high! All their logos are average
or below, with some exceptions, of course. But
everyone votes for them, because that certain
graphican once did a logo for them. But for me that
doesn't fulfil the meaning of a great artist. So, in
my opinion, quality should be counted much more...
For example, I once saw ONE picture by SKYLE and
that one was a real smasher. And so I consider him a
better artist than RRR and CUPID and so I vote for
him.. Understand what I'm trying to say???
Btw, sorry to RRR and CUPID for saying some more or
less bad things about them, but that's the way it is
and you are really the perfect examples for what I'm
talking about...
One of the worst things in today's world of gfx is
this scanning and converting shit! What the hell has
this to do with art?!? It's just plain "copying"... The
"painter" doesn't really bring his own style into the
picture. Now some guys might say that it doesn't
matter whether you take a sketch and pixel it on the
CBM64 with your own hand or simply scan it on PC and
convert it to C64 and maybe improve it a little bit.
But that does matter!!! When you pixel it, then you
bring all your mood into this picture and also your
own style. It gives the picture a special NATURAL
touch! And that's what converted pics are missing.
A good selfmade picture takes really a lot of time,
but it's really worth it, because then you stick to
our C64 and can show all them PC fuckers what it's
all about! Because your own style is better than any
stealing... STYLE IS EVERYTHING!

                                      -------------
