We have made our mark in the scene, therefore we need not introduce ourselves to you anymore. This month we entered the beginning of the summer of 1994. It is as always a great period, but unfortunately the scene is slowing down from here - naturally we all want to spend more time outside than inside. It was therefore also an extremely difficult time to do THE PULSE MAGAZINE for me and the people involved with this operation - but we came through nonetheless. But we can now look forward to our well deserved break in JULY, where THE PULSE MAGAZINE has its summer vacation - the ONLY month with no release. The MAY edition also radiated how we desperately need more response to the things we write, it is clearly something that all magazines needs these days. We try to provide you the best of entertainment and information, be a good sport and help us a bit more. We will return with another edition in the beginning of JUNE, be sure to get it by then. He is therefore a strong addition to us, and we hope for a great collaboration with him in the many editions to come. In addition to that, we bid goodbye to our sysop EDDIE, who was dismissed due to the unfortunate period GRAVEYARD has been through. We welcome TRICKET as the sysop of our brand new European HQ, DOMINIC. News journal
+ NEWS JOURNAL - THE HEADLINES + ----------------------------------------- The Worlds NEWS Leader - NEWS JOURNAL returns to give you a detailed look at some of the headlines that occured in the scene in April month. Welcome to the May report. We have recently been accused of only covering the alleged BOARD scene, lacking more coverage on the demo scene. We Therefore would like to encourage the demo groups out there to send us all the NEWS that might be interesting for the readers about your group. During 11 editions of covering most of the scene, it is our impression, that the demo groups do very little work in terms of public relations. It is there- fore more or less impossible for the magazines to be able to cover anything related to the demo-scene. We hope this will get the demo-groups out of their hidding, giving the media an honest chance of covering their group happenings. This is not a unique situation, the demo-scene has always been more or less impossible to cover. The material for this months NEWS JOURNAL was collected by DUKE, CROSSFIRE and SPLATTERHEAD. The editor is as always DUKE. * CORRECTION * We wrote in the March edition, that DIABOLO was a member of ALPHA FLIGHT. This is not true though, he is a member of the demo-group PADUA. We apologize for that. * STEVE/CAMELOT re-joined REGINA, and is supposed to be coding the next outfit of THE PULSE this fall. SHARK joined up with the music label BLUES MUZ, but is still in REGINA. The current REGINA memberstatus : DUKE, DR.ZIVAGO, KBS, SHARK and STEVE. * ALPHA FLIGHT continues their search for members, and it seems as if there is no stopping them in terms of how many members they will settle for. They therefore also recruited a lot of members this month, beginning with TITANIC/CHARGED, who joined up as a successful cracker. SAILOR/EXCESS, MURPHY/TRANCE and SAVALAS/VAUDEVILLE also joined up, but SAVALAS was kicked out later. STYX (swapper) is back in ALPHA FLIGHT after a failed stay in SACRED. To put an end to everything, WOZIO/ELYSIUM joined up with AFL as his second group. * STATIC/ex.GOTHIC is back in the scene with X-RATED. The Swedish phreaker DR.ZZAP is said to be moving to the states in a month or two - therefore giving up on the scene. * TRSI is back in action, after a period that could easily have been described as the worst in the groups history. But in order to keep the group going, they went into co-operation with a promising German cracking-group DYTEC, and thereby being the founders of yet another co-operation. DYTEC is to many of the sceners an exciting and mysterious group, one we hope to learn more about through this fascinating merge. Meanwhile, TRSI could announce the return of IRATA, after he got a hold of a new drive. The current memberstatus of TRSI is as follows : ANARCHY, CRISP, IRATA, MWS, OB, SCAT, POSDNUGS, THE BRAIN and THE BREAKER. The memberstatus of DYTEC is still unknown to us though, but we will try to get a hold of it by next month. * FOCUS is said to perhaps the strongest demo-group in the scene with what its members are concerned. But HEIN HOLT, who was expected to have made a permanent comeback to the% C64, has infact not. He exclaimed to THE PULSE MAGAZINE, that he has not done anything on the 64 for ages, and that "he has no plans for doing anything in the future". It is sad, but nevertheless true. * PROXYON is back in the scene, re-built by the old member GOREFEST, who recently left TRC. The current memberstatus of PROXYION is : GOREFEST - PEARL and ANNIHILATOR. * The promising Australian cracking and demo-group SHAZAM is dead. Most of the members left to join other groups, while INSANE and XEREZ started up a new graphics label and GOP is solo for now. * The American group PHUN SOFT INCORPORATED (PSI) could announce an addition last month, in the form of a few of the more respectable names within the American demo- scene. DEATHLOK and CYBERM0SH joined up as graphicians, while MEGMYX joined in as their new musician. PSI still claim to be one of the most powerful fixing-groups in the US, but last month the only fixer in the group, the European TALENT member COUNT-ZERO, announced that he had left PSI due to lack of support and interest from the Americans. They are therefore left with no fixers, but according to the leader WHITE LIGHTNING, they are very ambitious in terms of becoming the next great fixing-group, and are therefore searching for talented fixers to join up. The current status of PSI goes as follows : WHITE LIGHTNING (Leader), STYX (Coder), CYBERM0SH (Artist), DEATHLOK (Artist), BURNTBOY (Hacker) and MEGMYX (Musician). This month no American group was to be spotted in the charts, and it therefore looks as if the American dominance in fixing is more or less a thing of the past. * SUCCESS could announce a couple of new members this month. VENGEANCE/SHAZAM re-joined SUCCESS, and after a period of laziness, he told THE PULSE MAGAZINE that he was planning to return to the scene in full effect. MORBID/ SHAZAM (musician) was also accepted into the SUCCESS squad, but is only on trial at the time being. * RENEGADE/ATLANTIS teamed up with EXCESS as their new modem-trader and sysop of the new EXCESS European HQ ESCAPADE. Meanwhile EXCESS kicked out VENICE and PULSE due to inactivity. * THE CYBERDOME is now closed for good for the 64 callers, as the board has turned into an Amiga board. The sysop LEXI is still in FAIRLIGHT on the 64 though, but he has pretty much ceased all activities, and he has stopped calling out aswell. This does not say anything about his contribution for the coming editions of REFORMATION though, but that fact that REFORMATION has been elayed now for over a month could be caused by the cut down of LEXI. * The top of the table cracking-group AVANTGARDE could announce the return of the infamous musician A-MAN, who had been on a break since he was kicked out of LEGEND. * MOTIV 8 is not only successful in the charts this month, they have also had a good month with what new additions to the group is concerned. But to begin with, MOTIV 8 could announce that SMD was kicked out due to internal problems. SUN DANCER later left MOTIV 8 shortly after joining, to built up a graphics label called 4D-GRAPHICS. He later changed the name into ODYSEE OF ART due to the fact that there was a German firm by the name of 4D-GRAPHICS. The German member CURLIN who recently returned to the scene after a long break, could announce that he was going to leave the scene again, this time probably permanently. The good news then came along, as the MOTIV 8 EHQ DOMINIC became the new EHQ for THE PULSE MAGAZINE. The board is since it took on MOTIV 8 in the beginning of 1994 the most called board in Europe. DOMINIC is MOTIV 8 + THE PULSE MAGAZINE EHQ and can be reached at +45-55776525. MOTIV 8 could later announce the return of GREGO/ex.ILS, who is back in the scene after a short break caused by the police - to join up with MOTIV 8. His American board IN LIVING COLOR is now the WHQ for MOTIV 8. You will be able to call it on the same old number 713-455-5050. SUSIE UZI was offered to join up aswell, but she wanted to keep a low profile for a while, since she was afraid that her newly held trial would affect anything. * TRIAD was able to add a couple of members in April aswell. The Australian coder and cracker ROADRUNNA/OFFENCE joined up with TRIAD, while HEAVYHEAD/VISION (swapper) was added to the mothership aswell. TRIAD could also happily announce the return on JOHAN T to the squad in April. * SPLATTERHEAD/ex.SACRED joined up with CHROMANCE after a period of being groupless. SZAB, the promising fixer from Hungary left the scene, to start on the PC. Meanwhile two Hungarian sceners, STAKE (cracker, coder, supplier) and LION (NTSC-fixer and coder) joined up with CHROMANCE. * NINJA (former member of GENESIS PROJECT, DOMINATORS and ENIGMA) was visited by the Belgium police last month. The thing is, he quit the scene nearly a year ago, but they visited him on a case which went all back to September 1991, where his phonenumber had popped up 13 times on a local PBX. What is going to happen to NINJA is yet unknown though. * Rumours, that LUCIFER/CODERZ was in prison are TRUE, however not for the first acclaimed reasons. As it turns out, he is not in for hacking, but because of a traffic-violation he is now serving the second part of. Whether or not this means that he will return to the scene later, is unsure. THE SHORT TELEGRAMS ------------------------- * The Australian group TSR is dead. * SONY from JAPAN have bought parts of the English software conpany OCEAN. * SYCO/ex.SACRED and RAVE/TRIAD were caught by the post for stanp-cheating. * A swapper known as CODE 18 (former groups are TRANCE, SACRED and TRC) is back in the scene under the handle of GAVIN. * FIST and SAURON/ex.ILLUSION have been spotted calling the AVANTGARDE board FORUM recently. * A German fake-group JUST US claims to be the owners of the boards SATTELITE and THE SHAOLIN TEMPLE among others. * X-RADICAL/CHROMANCE, CAVRON/TRC and HOMEBOY/ CHROMANCE will release a new magazine very soon called OBSESSION. THE SHORT TELEGRAMS ------------------------- * VICTON (Graphician) joined ELYSIUM. * J.O.S./SLASH DESIGN joined ENTROPY as his 1st group. * STAKE/CHERUBS joined ALPHA FLIGHT as main-cracker. Monthly Releases
+ MONTHLY RELEASES - THE 1ST RELEASE LIST + ------------------------------------------------------ Presented to you by COUNT ZERO of TALENT 'Welcome to the jungle, we got fun and games, we got everything you want all we know the name ...' W.A.ROSE In a way these lyrics seem to fit. This month has shown once again how low the scene can go on its hunt for points and the fame that follows. Of course your monthly guard about the happenings will intervent and clear the people's mind. So for this issue I am going to tell you a couple of changes, and additions towards the rules and who acted cocky and mad on certain things. Just go on reading and try to follow me through this JUNGLE, that it is. THE US SCENE --------------- Is pretty much DEAD. Maybe that's the only thing I can start with. Actually I would say that nobody is left from what was actual last month. PUDWERX is still fixing for AVANTGARDE though, while RICH/ EMPIRE and MASSIVE ONSLAUGHT have been spotted calling out. That's about it. After I left PSI I can only wish them good luck in the future. On the European market the BYRONICS did not turn up again for another fix, and nothing of major importance changed on the TRC+SCS status aswell. It looks like really everybody is browing his own beer and doesn't care about the others. What actually is missing is an overwhelming fixing group trying to get the warez fixed properly, whom people can look up to - and learn from. Most definately. RULE-MODIFICATIONS ----------------------- Here we go with adding a new rule towards the actual chartsystem. * Whoever puts out a bad fix of a game, may it be incomplete, corrupted or whatever, and the game is fixable, will receive -2 on his overall points. There are NO excuses at all for doing so. It will be a discussed rule all over the place and on some parts critical, but about how well a game is fixable or not, the people should still be able to judge. There are enough fixers left being competent enough to judge this. The group will even gain -2 if another group gets the points with a 100% version. Stuff which e.g Chromance was up to during the last couple of months (writing FIXED in the upload, but not doing something towards the game at all, will also gain -2 on the release, UNLESS it is not posted THE SAME CALL, that the game still remains PAL. RULE-MODIFICATIONS ----------------------- The before explained rule will be taken into consideration from next month on, aswell as this one: * Games which were released during one of the following contests will gain NO POINTS and handled like done using a GAME CREATOR. Therefore games released by MARKT and TECHNIK 2 Kilobytes and 5 Kilobytes contests will not be judged. This rule was caused due to AFL's release of GRAFIXJUMP, which also had a poor record in THE PULSE. It is the first game getting 0.0 points on the quality. SAD but TRUE. * Finally we got something over here, which I thought did not have to be mentioned, but people never learn. BASIC games including parts of ML will be ignored unless they ar not major titles. E.g. ORMUS SAGA I-III, THE EXAM, KAISER or similar. Just to state this, the staff is taking the responsibility for doing it this way. Allright, let's start doing the list for the games released during APRIL. But before we start it off, make sure to read the last page of this chapter aswell, as I will state a couple of things, why the points for certain games have been given the way I did it. ALPHA FLIGHT (Ger, Pol, USA, etc.) (-0.2 Points/No Rank) -------------------------------------------------------------- They started their month after a little break with a game from MARKT and TECHNIK's 5KB contest, called GRAFIXJUMP (3.0) which was put out fixed from the beginning. Following this rather lame act, they tried to do the major title of the year LEMMINGS, but failed (more info on the last pages). When the dust softened a little but, LIGHTPHASER ARCHERY PRV (-5) was put out by them, but the interested PULSE reader will recognize that the game already god released by TRC+SCS a month back. They tried to sum up the result to a positive one by putting out a couple of previews such as PUZZLACKI (0.6) by STRATOS SOFTWARE, UNDER THE GROUND PRV (0.4) by MIST BRAINS and one of the best Hack'n'Slay previews so far called FEARS OF DARKNESS (0.8). AVANTGARDE (Ger, UK, USA, etc.) (24.6 Points/1.Rank) -------------------------------------------------------------- As a personal aspect of work, I have to mention that I am glad to be able to mention HOK back in the cracking scene. (Sorry for no closer explanation, but HOLGER said he'll only leech the PULSE if he is mentioned :] ) But let's get serious again and take a closer look at what the machinery has put out lately. A brilliant preview named KOSHIMO (0.9) by DIRECT DESIGN made the people starting to request KUNG FU MASTER, as both games are rather similar. They continued with a FONTEDITOR (-) for the graphicians. Finally they started to strike, when all the trouble about LEMMINGS was over. They returned and put out ENZYME (5.8) by DIRECT DESIGNS fixed by PUDWERX. Another shocker was the rather neat game DOCTOR MAD AND THE TOPSY TURVY MOON MEN OF MARS (5.5) by DIRECT DESIGN (phew, take your breath) - running on NTSC from the beginning. Along with the the previews of ELAROO (0.7) and FIREFOX (0.4) they put out a gfx-adventure named TREASURE ISLE (4.4) by PHOENIX SOFTWARE. The light went dim when they started uploading MYSTERY PRV (0.2), which is NOT the same as the one ALPHA FLIGHT released a while back, but is a very bad one. ORMUS SAGA III (6.7) was their killer of the month, putting the US boards back in motion. CHROMANCE (Hun, Ger, etc.) (9.1 Points/3.Rank) -------------------------------------------------------------- They got a hold of a game called REFLECT (5.8) from ROM SOFTWARE and the fixed version of SANTA CLAUS HELPER (2.7) from TMMB. Finally they also managed to grab the points for NOW SHOOT PRV (0.6) from MAD DOG DEVELOPMENT. EXCESS (Ger, Hol) (-4.7 Points/No Rank) -------------------------------------------------------------- They had a rather bad start by putting out the old ZEPPELIN game ZYBEX (-5) and later on just managed to do the preview of WHO CARES (0.3) from Art Project. GENESIS PROJECT (Swe, Ger, USA, etc.) (-5 Points/No Rank) -------------------------------------------------------------- After a long time they did not manage to strike back with decent stuff and put out the old preview of NODULE (-5). As a good aspect I see PROPAGANDA (-) back in business. :] F4CG (Bel, Pol, USA, etc.) (-4.6 Points/No Rank) -------------------------------------------------------------- I nearly forgot our dear PIRATE leader SOLAR and his followers. Nah, not really, just the wrong order. F4CG recently put out SUPER NIBBLY (-5), but when RAINIER recognized it, it was too late. Also their new member HAIN was not able to supply enough stuff to get them out of the trouble again and just made it to MEMOLOGIE PRV (0.4). MOTIV8 (Den, Ger, USA, etc.) (15.5 Points/2.Rank) -------------------------------------------------------------- Early in the month they put out a fixed version of MOVE (3.7) from CP VERLAG and later on came up with a little boxes game called THE SESSION (4.4) by MORE.GORE SOFTWARE (weird name) running PAL/NTSC aswell. SHOOT PRV (0.4) by STAR DESIGN was another easy one, but spoiled the fun on playing good Shoot'em Ups. To kill their Quality Points, they kicked out a game called BLACK PEARL (-) from RIVER SOFTWARE, done using an adventure maker. Ater all, they managed to release the 100% fixed version of ARC DOORS (4.5) by CP VERLAG. The same edition of GAME ON/MAGIC DISC brought SPERENZA (2.2) from KOPIDO GAMES, fixed by MOTIV8 to us. They had to put out the fixed intro later on - what resulted in (-1). MOTIV8 (Den, Ger, USA, etc.) (15.5 Points/2.Rank) -------------------------------------------------------------- During this mess they also released ACE 2 PRV (0.3), which is not worth the leech-time. Believe me! TRC+SCS (Hol, Ger, USA, etc.) (9.0 Points/4.Rank) -------------------------------------------------------------- The Dutch duo had a busy month, so I will start with what is less important. ANALYZER PRV (0.4), another little puzzle- number moved from their disks to the boards, aswell as a fixed version of DARK CAVES (3.8) from CP Verlag, a neat little hero type of game. Major trouble was coming up with LEMMINGS (4.8) where as AFL released a PAL version and TRC+SCS put out a so-called fixed version, with some problems, making them putting out another 3 sides. (More info on the last pages). What happened? TRC+SCS and the points for LEMMINGS? Go on reading. TRSI+DYTEC (Ger, UK) (6.0 Points/5.Rank) -------------------------------------------------------------- The new cooperation managed to put out CUBEMAGIK (4.8) by FIFTH DIMENSION/MARKT and TECHNIK, a rather nice puzzle game imported and fixed by TALENT. Later on followed VAPOUR PRV (0.7) by X-AMPLE and a preview of CYBERLOGIC (0.5). Let's wish them good luck for the future. Just one more page and you will see what has happened to the different groups. What is their ranking then? + CRACKING-GROUPS RELEASECHARTS + -------------------------------------------- Rank Groupname Releases Points -------------------------------------------------------------- 1. (-) ALPHA FLIGHT 3.0 -------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES ------ Towards the FIXING-GROUPS charts I have to add that from now on and in the future I am checking if something on the release got NTSC fixed or if the game was just tested and kicked out. Whenever something on the game is done you will gain points for your group. Even if just the music got fixed to work better on NTSC. This is a result of having NO American or Canadian groups left in the charts. . Now turn the page one more time. THE GAMES - THE POINTS - THE ANSWER ------------------------------------------ LEMMINGS As this is THE MAJOR GAME OF THE YEAR as a prestige release I counted the TRC+SCS version, as it was the only 100% working version on PAL. Therefore TRC+SCS got the PAL points only. AFL was missing out two pictures, something which should NOT happen towards a major group doing a major game. Nevertheless, LEMMINGS is FIXABLE and the first 100% NTSC version will be counted as the final first-release. Don't cry. FIX! DARK CAVES I checked a whole lot of versions. M8 was missing the intro on their first fixed version and when I checked the TRC+SCS version, everything was looking fine to me. Also the errors people told me about were not obvious. So they got the points for it, EASY AS THAT. ARC DOORS After MOTIV 8's introlinked version, AVT put out a bugging fix. Later on MOTIV 8 put out the 100% fix, which is working fine for me. This particular game does not influence the actual amount of points and therefore is not of MAJOR importance. SPERANZA For some reason MOTIV 8 and CHROMANCE are currently warring eachother. I do not think this game is the main reason, but adds a couple of views towards this kind of war. After CHROMANCE put out a version of this game, saying in the filename it was FIXED (which it wasn't) they later on said it was BUG FIXED. I personally lost most of my respect towards this group. Anyway, MOTIV 8 got the points for a 'FIXED' version later on. It is hard to divide on this game, as the actual game looks like the PRV released ages back, but it was put out as a full game on GO/MD. The PAL version of this one is a bitch anyways, so just stop it. COUNT ZERO of TALENT on 1st of May '9
Satirica
+ SATIRICA - THE AUTOPSY OF THE SCENE + ------------------------------------------------ Welcome sick people, to another mindblasting and exclusive edition of the raw and uncensured SATIRICA. We bring you the stories and background about the sceners no other magazine dare report on. Please note. SATIRICA has now been a loyal follower to THE PULSE MAGAZINE for a stunning 11 editions now. We would therefore like to warn you about any bad imitations of this chapter. SATIRICA is the original and only chapter written purely on satiric intentions. We bring you the usual hardcore stuff this month, as always with the new editions of SUPER-SKINHEAD RETURNS, THE BALLED AND UNSHAVED and NATURES CORNER. We also have a lot of selected stories about the sceners, based on their stupidity. * SATIRICA is a trademark of THE PULSE MAGAZINE. All stories, reports and opinions are pure fiction written in a satiric manor. The MEANWHILE AT THE HOUSE oneliners are based on pure material though. We advice everyone with a bad sense of humour to stop reading SATIRICA now. * SPLATTERHEAD is about to reach stardom in the city of the lost stars - HOLLYWOOD (hehe, I wrote WOOD). Apparently he is going to star in a splatter/freak movie, about a young dude who went to Hungary to join the BRADY BUNCH. According to lookattheTIME magazine, he discovered his god given gift when running head-first into a wall, and since then he has been splatting all over the place. First he CAME in LONDON, then he came in NEW YORK. SPLATTERHEAD will be splatting in a town near you soon, but make sure to bring tissues. * Rumours, that LUCIFER/CODERZ is in prison are TRUE, but not for the acclaimed reasons. Apparently LUCIFER is writing a book about "The life of the criminals". He visited the Houston prison to write this book, but as it turned out, he was elected the new QUEEN of the prison, and he is now serving time for the prisoners. Oh dear! * The seriously deformed joke corner : - What is the resemblance between MICHAEL JACKSON and a carrier bag? Both are made out of plastic! * The monsters in TRSI have been through what could be described as one of the biggest group crisis ever. According to ANARCHY, the members were having difficulties figuring out what TRSI actually ment. THE BREAKER was uneasy about the idea of being a member of a group, which name could turn out to be "THE ROOKIE SESSION INN", and therefore took a break from his activities. In an interview with the American Alien-LIFE-form Magazine, ANARCHY was asked if he never considered TRSI to mean "TRISTAR+RED SECTOR INC.". He was appauled by this idea, shouting "Do ya think a bunch of coolies like us would wanna be in a group having such a stupid name you twat?". According to Alien-LIFE-form, ANARCHY was of the idea, that TRSI had to mean something rough and up to date, like THE ROLLING STONES IMBECILES. However, in order to find an end to this messed up situation, they decided to start a co-operation with the German wanking- group DYTEC. ANARCHY claimed, that if two groups were together in not knowing what their group-name ment, it would not be all that painful - and embarrising. * Meanwhile at the house of CAVRON/TRC "What the hell do I know?" * Meanwhile at the house of DR.ZZAP/X-RATED "Do you want me to kiss your ass?". * BOD took a break from the boards to prefare for MOTHERS DAY on Sunday the 8th of May. According to BOD, this is a joyful occasion, one he looks forward to every summer. He explained to NO-LIFE Magazine, that this day gave him an excuse when going to buy flowers. "Damn those people out there, just because I like flowers they think I am wierd". * Also DR.ZZAP had prepared a present for his loving mother on MOTHERS DAY, a nice phonebill of one billion dollars. Needless to say, his mother was very happy about the bill, stating that it was always a pleasure to pay, when she knew it gave her son DR.ZZAP a sex-life. She stated, that she always wanted her loving son to have the things she never had. * REFORMATION seems to be having difficulties once again providing the scene with a steady news coverage. According to the Swedish press, ENDURO was found unconscious in the bathroom, after drinking out of the toilet. Apparently he had forgotten to flush before drinking, something his father had told him dusins of times. His family is expecting his recovery soon, but they stated to the Swedish press, that ENDURO will hopefully learn from this, and remember to flush next time. REFORMATION is also schedualed to be released, as soon as he is released from the hospital. * The legendary heros SAURON and FIST, known as the head of the ILLUSION crime family, was spotted calling FORUM. According to the sysop SAURON, most of what was ILLUSION in NORWAY in the past, were now active (really active) on the PC. It appears that the ILLUSION gang, SAURON, GENE, HERO and FIST has built up a new group on the PC called "The Holly Wanking Bunch" being the largest PORNO picture collecting group. "Yep, it is a stimulating industry we have entered, and I can only urge everyone to get a hold of a PC themselves, it beats the hell out of having a girlfriend" said an eager FIST to the latest edition of NORWEGIAN MUTANTS. * The Australian group TSR (The Soviet Russians) is dead. According to some of its members, they were angry with the press accusing them of having sex with dingos, when in truth they already had made a public statement - stating they were more drawn to Kangeroos. "We think having sex with dingos is disgusting, that's why we stopped". The Soviet Russians have split up, but it appears a couple of Norwegian members refuse to let the group die. "We have as much right to the dingos as the Australian members do, and the only reason we joined up in the first place, was to get a bit of the action". * Meanwhile at the house of PEACEMAKER/MOTIV 8 "Ah - I have something in my brain!" * The brand new super group PHUN SOFT INC. is getting ready to take over the American fixing market. But it appears they have yet to solve one problem, they do not have any fixers. According to the leader, WHITE LIGHTNING, fixers were not a problem anymore, as they just got two new graphicians. As if that would solve the problem, but it still appears that PSI is the best American group, being the only active and alive group at the moment. * ALPHA FLIGHT has vitnessed its biggest downfall in the history of the group. The prestige game LEMMINGS was close to become an addition to the first-releases put out by AFL, but SCS+TRC came first, and made AFL eat dirt. According to a former member of ALPHA FLIGHT (well, that qualifies about 80% of the scene), when AFL was beat on LEMMINGS, then SUPREME ordered every member to follow him to a nearby cliff to jump. Whether SUPREME got the idea for this from CLIFF- HANGER is still uncertain, but according to the American LIFE-LESS Magazine, SUPREME took the beating hard. * RADAR stated on a board that he had got himself a vicious dobberman, ready to bite the head of anyone entering his junkyard. But according to the neighbour, the dobberman died in fear when the local paperboy came to deliver the paper. + SUPREME-SKINHEAD RETURNS - ISSUE # 2 + -------------------------------------------------- We welcome back the second episode of Jochen's personal nightmare, also known as jff hsdfsdd 2. We join JOCHEN and HARTMUT in the SINGLE MEN OF THE 90's bar, where they were about to vitness the take off of the ANNUAL SKINHEAD AWARDS. But first we bring you this song from HARTMUT : "Dream lover come rescue me, take me home, take me..."..gsd.. The SINGLE MEN OF THE 90's bar was fully packed, and every skinhead with respect for himself (ehrm, well.ed) was there to vitness history in the making. HARTMUT was really excited, "Do you think RIGHT SAID FRED will be here, do you, do you?". "Oh shut up about that stupid English skinhead" JOCHEN said while kicking HARMUT's teeth in. The show began, and the host of the show came on, PARSON. "SKINHEADS and STUPID PEOPLE, welcome to the ANNUAL SKINHEAD AWARDS. Tonight we will be giving out the highly respected WIENER ON A STICK award to the best in the world of SKINHEADS. The most prestigous award, MOST LIKELY TO GO BALLED, will be presented by ADOLF, former member of CENSOR DESIGN. (Applause, BUUUH, Applause.." "Thank you very much" said ADOLF. The drums started pounding, and the tension was at its highest level. "And the award for MOST LIKELY TO GO BALLED goes to.. RAY COKES". Oh no, the evil and cunning RAY COKES was in the building. HARTMUT pissed in his pants, and JOCHEN took a beer bottle and hit himself in the head. Total panic started at the SINGLE MEN OF THE 90's, while RAY COKES and ROB, the camera man (of CAMELOT?) started shooting everyone at the place (with the camera). JOCHEN and HARTMUT managed to escape, and ran all the way home. "Phew" said HARTMUT. "What would happen if my mommy found out that I was our drinking after 10 PM". "Oh shut up you stupid skinhead" said JOCHEN, while trying to open the door with a crowbar. They were home and safe, but for how long? (Until the REAL owners of the house came home?). RAY COKES was in Germany, looking for a couple of skinheads to star in his show. - TO BE CONTINUED.. (After a WHOLE lot of commercials). * HAIN, the former SUPER cracker from Poland, seems to be heading for a dry period since he joined up with the psychos in F4CG. According to WIERD LIFE Magazine, the reason for the downfall of HAIN, was that he missed the long late-night conversations with BOD when he was in TALENT. HAIN said, that SOLAR was okay, but BOD was something special. HAIN will try to get everything together for the race of the JUNE month release-charts, but at the moment he seemed too depressed to be doing anything. * WESTBAM, the phreaker from LEGEND, was spotted at one of the most exclusive nightclubs in HOLLYWOOD the other week. Apparently he was trying to cut through to a movie deal, pretending to be DYLAN from the show BEVERLY HILLS 90210. But when the real DYLAN showed up later, he was kicked out of the bar for being an imposter. WESTBAM told the tabloids that he was tired of never getting a real break, always having to be the bad guy, the smelly guy, the ugly guy and the loser. But he was optimistic, stating "Atleast I am not PARSON". Luck was later to work for his advantage, as he sold his life story to a major HOLLYWOOD company, currently showing in all major cities inhabited by less than 200 people. The title tune for the movie "I am a loser, so why don't you kill me" is currently storming the charts. + NATURES CORNER - WATCHING FAT LADIES SWIM + --------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to Natures Corner, hosted by your very own and favourite POWERPLANT OF LEGEND (scattered applause). This month we have invited a true vandal, a disturber of the peace and a man of psychologial tendencies (god that was a hard word to pronounce! Please welcome, LUCIFER of CODERZ. PWP : You stupid idiot. You are now jailed because of several traffic-violations. What is your response to that, have you no respect for human life? LUC : Ehh, heheh, you sure have a big butt! PWP : Thank you for coming. Ah yes, that was a lovely interview. Next month in NATURES CORNER we will invite someone hopefully as interesting. But until then, you will have to do with the rest of SATIRICA. GET A LIFE! + THE BALLED AND UNSHAVED - THE REAL WORLD + -------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to another episode of the BALLED and UNSHAVED heros in the real world. We present this months show, with a line of boggiemen, selected by random to appear on this edition. This months guests are : GOLDRUSH of CREST. JAZZCAT of LEGEND. MERLIN of MOTIV 8. BOOZE of EMPIRE. We now give the words to our guests, who took on eachother like a piece of ripped cornbread (?). It turned out to be a total disaster, remind us not to invite ANY of these persons (personalities) again. The month according to GOLDRUSH/CREST "Damn it. I am plain sick and tired of being made fun of, just because I happen to have a girly voice. Just for your infor- mation, a lot of people find it rather sexy, REALLY. Anyway, I left the REAL world after one week, I just could not take the hassles from MERLIN beating me with a broom stick. The month according to JAZZCAT/LEGEND "Godday mates. Well, what is there to say about those jolly chaps (wait a minute, I am Australian, I do not say chaps. A penalty point for the editor!!). Anyway, it was a lot of fun being a part of the real world for a while, but now it is time for me to get back to my drinking-trips. Yep, there is nothing like being high on life (with a bit of help at times). Anyway, I will miss the others, they made my stay an inspiration. Well not really, but it sounded good!" The month according to MERLIN/MOTIV 8 "Jesus christ, this month really made a mess out of my quite stabile (mostly) splitt-personality. At times I went around beating people (I turned into SLASH) and then MERLIN came on a spoiled all the fun. Anyway, there was not much to do anyway on that stupid cemetery on ICELAND. God knows why they chose to put us there anyway, sadistic bastards." The month according to BOOZE/EMPIRE "Hallo, hallo. Are you there? Ah, yes. Very very fine company I was put in. I just feel happy that MK (you are gay) was not there, he really puts out the worst in me. When I am at my worst, I sometimes go crazy and drink a whole beer. Ah yes, you do not want to be around me when I do that. The puke that comes afterwards is very much disgusting - YES!"

Board Report
+ THE BOARD REPORT by CROSSFIRE + ------------------------------------------- This time you will be informed about something that DOES pre- tain to the boards, but it is FAR from an ordinary review as we know them from the previous months. This month we will analize a topic that the people involved are sick and tired of discussing, and it is no wonder at all, since this has been going on for approximately 3 months now. We are going to discuss the fact, that SOME people uses the backdoor or other oppotunities to get the passwords of other users. Sounds pretty harmless to begin with, but it is far from harmless. Latest example was someone abusing the account of WALKER/ GENESIS*PROJECT on a bunch of boards, American ones as- well as European ones. This all started out in the beginning of March, when this fake-Walker logged into the Danish board DOMINIC which is now also PULSE hq. This fake posted a mes- sage, saying that G*P was tired of MOTIV8, certain members in particular, and therefore they decided to go into war with the whole M8-gang. I got a voice-call from Tricket/M8 shortly after this had happened, and together we called up Walker on his 3-way system. -Next Page!--- He greeted us and when we explained the matter to him, he was VERY surprised. HE definately did NOT call to write this mes- sage, but Tricket and I more or less suspected that from the very beginning. Our suspecition first fell on Lexi/FAIRLIGHT, with whom we had a struggle with, due to a certain chapter of Reformation. I admit I was wrong in this case, when the fake-Walker was seen posting Swedish in a Swedish sub on WARES AQUARIUM. My next suspecition then fell on Enduro/FAIRLIGHT, who was also VERY much mixed up in the M8/FLT-struggle. Once again I was too eager and did not think things through. Obviously, we were dealing with a THIRD person, an outstanding part of the fight, someone who was interesting in letting it continue. Suddenly, fake accounts was being made for both Tricket and me on Lexi's board CYBERDOME. These were used to call on to get us into trouble cause it would appear as though the mes- sages was posted by us. But WRONG!!! I am now using the fake- account on CYBERDOME, I've even scanned it and the number given was very close to Tricket's. I couldn't help wondering about this, when Tricket told me that a guy I had humiliated some time before thought we were neighboors, although we live about 400 km apart. I had buffered the fake-post where "G*P" declared us war, and guess what? -Next Page!-- I compared a newer post from this alleged suspect and they were completely alike. My guess is that these seriously crimes was commited by a certain DR.ZZAP/X-RATED, he might seem unknown to the entire scene and he also were to me until this incident started up. As earlier stated, I had humiliated him BADLY on SEVERAL of the bigger boards, and people were laughing their asses of whenever I made fun of him. Obviously, all he could reply with was threaths like "Shut up Fuckfire, or me and my good friend Cavron will kick you out of the scene".. This ofcause made me laugh HARD, and made me work on him even HARDER. Obviously, he couldn't stand the heat, and since he and Cavron/TRC are very good friends they made up this idea. Everybody who has read THE PULSE over the last months knows that Cavron likes to fuck up boards, so my guess is that he gave Dr.Zzap all the info he needed to get Walker's password, OR another way he could have gotten it, was if Walker has applied on the semi- wannabe-board Dr.Zzap had a short while named "Soul Asylum" I guess we will never know which of these is the right answer, but we DEFINATELY know that it WAS him that did it. He always called direct, which ofcause resulted in him getting a HUGE phonebill, that he was not able to pay. He had to close his phone.. -Next Page!- Since he had to close his phone, he was not able to call out, so he vanished for a while. Lately he payed his bill and got his phone back up. During his break the fake-Walker had dis- appeared aswell, and strangely enough, the very first day he got his phone back, the fake-Walker suddenly appeared on FORPLAY, uploading a note which was supposively written by Newscopy/GENESIS saying he would quit the scene since he had been fooling around during his trip to Hungary a few weeks earlier, and had caught the lethal AIDS-virus. Surely, this was a fake-note, but I called up Newscopy to verify it, I am happy to be able to announce the fact, that the REAL reason why he spent some days in the hospital was because of a bad stomach. It's a vicious rumours and is in NO way true! Many people also asked me what motive Dr.Zzap would have to fuck up GENESIS*PROJECT, and I'll answer this one once and for all. Everybody calling either THE HIGHWAY or WARES AQUARIUM would know that Dr.Zzap was having a hard time with Jucke/G*P on the Swedish boards, while he had a hard time with ME on the Danish ones. What other way would there be than to get M8 and G*P to fuck each other up so bad, that everybody would forget about him? Neat move, but not very cleverly carried out, though. -Next Page!- He thought we were all stupid enough to fall for his little trick, so he didn't think closer about the style in which he wrote the post. Dr.Zzap's posts always contained A LOT of BIG grammatic errors. He could never figure out when he had to write "A" in- front of a word, or if he should write "AN". Therefore, all of his posts contained "AN" even when it was wrong. (ex. "Fuck- fire, get an life!").. Anyone who have gratuated the 8th grade in the public schools could easily see this was wrong. He had a lot of other SERIOUS errors (ive which was meant as I've, as sort for "I have", and PLENTY of others in that direction as- well!)... Funny enough, the post from the fake-Walker also contained all these huge mistakes. Surely, anyone knows that when you write a post, you tend to let small bugs go through, although you might HAVE realized them, but these were SO bad, that anyone who could spot them would correct them. There were a lot of other smaller things that they had in com- mon and anyone who have never called a board before might be confused by these things, but anyone with experience in cal- ling will know what I mean. His posts were ALWAYS written with lightgrey color, he is the only person I can think of. -Next!- (...continued)..who actually bothered to write anything as the topic of the post, while anyone else usally uses some symbole, and sticks with it. He underlined important sentences with the dark-red color, and we could go on and on. Surely, somebody could have done it on purpose to make it look like a Dr.Zzap- post, but then again, it could aswell have been written by Wal- ker himself, which it is NOT! I've shown my evidence to A LOT of people, and nearly all of them believed me. There were a couple of people who was in doubt, since they considered Dr.Zzap to be too STUPID to pull a trick like this, but they all more or less agreed with me when I reminded them of Dr.Zzap's educator, who also has a very shattered past when it comes to fucking up boards. Now, Dr.Zzap is doing a last desperate attempt to get a lot of people on my back by filling them with bullshit. The latest I heard was a post from Nightshade/SCS saying something like if I ever called Cavron's board STATE OF THE ART and ragged on him again, I would feel a nasty punishment. First of all, I am a man of war, so I'm NOT gonna back down from an offer like this, but the truth is, that I have only called Cavron's board ONCE and that was when it was first opened. I haven't called it since then, since I only call Euro-boards if there is any notable action. -Next page!- (..continued!) ..and since I've been told that Cavron should be happy with 8 calls per day I really couldn't care less. But the truth is, I did NOT call Cavron, you or CBA for the matter. Why would I? Doesn't it seem strange to you if I started using lame tricks like this suddenly after all the wars I've been in and won the RIGHT way! - THINK! It is simply a last and desperate attempt by Dr.Zzap to get me into trouble and anyone who knows me, knows that I NEVER backstab, cause if you do that you just can't go LOWER!!! I always say it direct to the people it concerns if there is any- thing. But enough about that, deep down I hope the people who have been told this has got enough brains to figure it out by themselves. Dr.Zzap finally also started accusing ME of being the fake- Walker. This I can't do anything but to laugh about. But hey, show me your evidence and I'll show you something else, since evidence isn't proper to make yourself. He also called THE HIGHWAY and wrote a post like "I admit I was the fake-Walker and Crossfire was right all the time. Did I fool you or what?". Funny enough, the next post was from him too, and it said smth like "That post is ofcause an fakepost, how lame of Crossfire to do something like this!".. Surely, he is trying to clear Himself, but he is in for a HUGE surprise when he realizes... (..continued!) ..exactly HOW many people really believes him!.. Dr.Zzap and his friend Cavron threatened by revealing "the truth" in some up-coming mag named OBSESSION. Well, go ahead, but it would be better to get it "revealed" in a real mag like THE PULSE, so that people would actually even be able to read it. -------------------------------------------------------------- You have reached the end of another board-review. This time a very special one, but it DID pretain to the board-scene and was meant to clear up some things that A LOT of board-callers has been dragged into for absolutely no reason recently. Hope you found it interested, and we are aware of the fact, many people are sick and tired of this incident by now, but here was the final chapter. Anything else you might see else- where will just be a last desperate attempt of Dr.Zzap to get back on his feet. Signing off for this month, and on behalf of THE PULSE, CROSSFIRE/MOTIV8!
Profile
+ THE MAY PROFILE - A PROMINENT MUSICIAN + --------------------------------------------------- Welcome dear reader to another edition of PROFILE. This time we have decided to invite one of the prominent sceners from the demo-scene. Our guest is respected in the eyes of every scener as one of the most skilled in his area. He made a name of himself in a time known as the glorious days of the 64, a time where his group BONZAI, managed to mark itself internationally with stunning demos still remembered and missed by the massive crowd of demo-lovers still around. BONZAI was later to vanish from the scene, and most of the members back then tried to find the same magic in other 64 groups or on other systems. Our guest, who was at that time actual in the charts and known as one of the best musicians in the world, vanished along with the group. He sold his 64 and started a musical career on the PC. But he was later to return to the good old 64, to do music like in the past. He is now back in great form, and hopefully he is back to stay. It is therefore with pride and joy, that we are able to present this great scener. Please welcome, our MAY profile - METAL of VIBRANTS and CAMELOT. [D] Welcome TORBEN. Please give the readers a description of your person. [M] Well, I am 21 years old - 182 cm tall - dark hair and big feet. I live in the city of AALBORG/DENMARK and I study Land-Surveying at the AUC (that's LANDINSPEKTOER for the Danes). [D] Oh, so you are a real farmers person? You are probably best known for the glorious days you spent in BONZAI. How would you describe those glorious days? [M] Those days were rather great. It was at this time I really got through to the crowd, and also I got to meet a lot of new guys. Even though most people thought of BONZAI as very active people - We were the laziest bunch in Denmark. Actually the last year that BONZAI existed, noone did any- thing. But yes, it was quite funny. BTW: BONZAI is infact alive again - only on the PC that is : WALT, MYSELF and TRAP + a bunch of others are the return of BONZAI. [D] That sounds really great, much luck to you on the PC. You are back from a long break, although most of the sceners seem to be of the idea, that you made a comeback with the music you did for the latest edition of REVEALED. What have you been up to before that? [M] Well, as you all may know, I entered VIBRANTS (around November 1992) and almost immidiately I and DRAX were to produce the music for a PC-game. This of course took up some major time, but also the fact that I only recently got a 64 again - after missing it for about one and a half year. To get back to the question - I have made a comeback, but the tunes used in REVEALED were from 1992. I have until now done 2 new tunes, so yes, I am back again. [D] I am sure the readers a probably wondering what groups you were in before BONZAI, therefore please give them a resume of your career in the scene up to now. [M] I will spare you the whole list as I started way back in 1988, and have been in a million groups. But here is some of them. The first "real" group was WORLD WIDE EXPRESSIVE where I met TDJ/FOCUS (ex.WWE), next was ABNORMAL, and this was where I got to release my first tunes in JCH's player. Next was probably my biggest mistake : CONTEX - even though it was a cool group, FLEX ran the things his ways, and I was non included in his "things", as he would rather use the pop songs of 20CC, so I left and joined BONZAI. Next was FLASH INC. and this was about the time I got real busy with other stuff, including joining VIBRANTS. Anyway, from FLASH INC. It was CAMELOT. Here's a tricky past because after the PARTY'92 I thought I left CAMELOT and I therefore joined up with REGINA. But due to my laziness and not having a 64 I left again. A few months ago I got my 64 back, and found out that I still was a member of CAMELOT, which is the group I am in at the moment. Puha, what a ride.. [D] Well, I think we have all got a past of many groups, it is what makes interviews like these interesting, ehrm. You were quite active at a time, and it was notable in the charts how popular you were. Now you seem to be back in great form, are you planning a comeback to the charts aswell? [M] I will leave that to the voters to decide, but surely being in the charts is OK! [D] You are too modest. The competition within CAMELOT must be quite hard, due to the fact that it holds some of the best coders, graphicians and musicians. Do you think it is a good idea to have so many skilled people in one group, and doesn't it cause any problems? [M] I do not feel it causes problems, mainly because we all grow older and therefore have other things to attend to. [D] Sounds fair. JEFF is one of today's most successful musicians, and also a member of CAMELOT. Does it mean less work for you within CAMELOT because of his success? [M] Surely JEFF is successful, and he is into some game- projects with PROFILE DESIGN. Also he is a working man, so he does not really have much time for composing. This leaves myself and the DUCK with the most music jobs. [D] Let us move on to the subject of your musical abilities. How would you describe your style in terms of the music you make? [M] Well, let us get one thing straight : I hate HEAVY METAL! I am into TECHNO-TRANCE, FUNK and JAZZ!! I try to do things in my own style. [D] Do you play on any other instruments? [M] I play the keyboard, but surely I could do better. [D] It seems like most musicians these days play on keyboard, but I guess it helps when trying to compose new tunes. Are you serious with it then? [M] Serious in what way - I use my keyboard plugged into my PC. [D] Okay, I asked for that one. Anyway, we have already established that you are a musician, but do you have other activities in the scene we should know about? [M] Once I was a coder, but then I discovered BeatBox and SoundMonitor and off I went. [D] And that was a pretty good move (except you could have turned out to be a superb coder, but that is another story). Have you ever made music for games? [M] Yes I have. [D] Which ones did you make music for, and how much money were you paid? [M] I have made the music for the PC/AMIGA game LOLLYPOP in co-op with DRAX. We are STILL! waiting for the money which should be approx. 2000 dollars each. [D] Are you involved with making other games today then? [M] Yes - The VIBRANTS have a kinda internal contact to a gamefirm, and it should not be long until our next production. [D] Let us return to the scene. CAMELOT seems to be getting ready to release a couple of demos. Last I heard, GLASNOST and CRUZER were working on something. Are you involved with any of these projects or perhaps a third one? [M] I am involved in the demo including CRUZER - and as far as I understand It is really going to be a kick-ass thing. [D] I cannot wait till it is due, have been long since we saw something from good old CRUZER. How would you describe the group-spirit in CAMELOT? [M] Very distant. Each member kinda minds his own business. My contacts in CAMELOT are KRING and JEFF. [D] Please explain further what activities you have going on the PC. [M] The PC is a real kick-ass machine. I am in VIBRANTS and BONZAI on that system. The VIBRANTS are already kind of known even though I am the only one who has released some- thing. BONZAI still have not released anything. [D] What do you think about the C64 scene as it is today? Would you like to improve something or do you find it to be just perfect? [M] I think it is getting somewhat better, as many people have actually returned to the old machine. I therefore think the scene is OK, and I would not change anything. Well, maybe the amount of shitty musicians (ARGH!). [D] Yes well. What is your opinion then of the many magazines released today? [M] I have absolute NO idea whatsoever as to how many mags there are out there today. But if there's as many as there were 2 years ago, I think there simply are too many! [D] I believe there are more, while the standard of the less good ones is much worse. Everybody seem to be wanting to do a magazine, but almost nobody care for putting the neces- sary work into it. What is your favourite magazine and why? [M] I haven't seen any mag but one issue of THE PULSE and one of REVEALED. I think that they are equally great! Well done. [D] Thank you very much. I did not see you at the CAMELOT party. Do you prefer to stay at home on events like these or was it simply a lack of interest at the time? [M] First of all - At the University you do not get the X-Mas off unless you have done your work. And at the time of the Party'93 I was stuck with a project. Maybe this year. [D] Let us hope so. What is your favourite demo-group and why? [M] Could not say because of the lack of insight to the demo-scene. [D] Well okay, fair enough answer. What is your opinion of the cracking and the modem-scene? [M] I think they have overstayed their welcome!! [D] The future existance of the scene is very hard to pre- dict, but something most sceners worry and care about these days. How long do you predict the scene to go on? [M] As long as it's fun and not purely business-minded! [D] Short, but good enough answer. Before we end this inter- view, would you perhaps like to say hello to some of your friends? [M] Well, I will stick to the ones on the 64. All in CAMELOT, TDJ and MIRAGE/FOCUS, DEFF/AVANTGARDE, SYNDROM/ TIA/CREST, REGINA and finally to DRAX (din lille moegunge) and the rest of VIBRANTS (JO and JCH). [D] Thank you very much for the very interesting interview. We wish you all the best in the future, and hope to hear more music from you in the near future. [M] In your dreams, but thanks anyway! Just kidding - Watch out for a CAMELOT demo due sometime this year, and also (hold your breath everyone) some VIBRANTS things! See you all somewhere on your screens. You have been reading an exclusive interview done by DUKE for THE PULSE MAGAZINE of TORBEN "METAL" HANSEN. We will return next month with a new PROFILE, there are still a lot of very interesting and successful sceners worth learning more about.

POINTS -------------------------------------------------------------- 1 (3) OXYRON 76 2 (1) CREST 70 3 (2) CENSOR DESIGN 65 4 (5) CAMELOT 50 5 (4) TRIAD 44 6 (7) TOPAZ BEERLINE 27 7 (9) FLASH INC. 25 8 (7) FAIRLIGHT 23 9 (-) FOCUS 21 10 (6) TABOO 15 * OXYRON captures the number one spot after a down period, while CREST is sent off to the second place (this is getting to be a boring affair). * CAMELOT move up the chart silently, but is undoubtedly a group to watch out for with a couple of demos soon to be released. * FOCUS finally enters the charts, while ANTIC moves out and TABOO getting ready to do the same. + BEST CODERS - MAY 1994 + [Legal Chart] POS. L.POS. SCENERS NAME... POINTS -------------------------------------------------------------- 1 (2) TTS/OXYRON 78 2 (1) CROSSBOW/CREST 67 3 (4) BOB/CENSOR DESIGN 52 - (3) ZODIAC/FLASH INC. 52 5 (6) TRON/FAIRLIGHT 31 6 (10) AXIS/OXYRON 30 7 (5) D'ARC/TOPAZ BEERLINE 29 8 (8) GLASNOST/CAMELOT 27 9 (-) SLAMMER/CAMELOT 22 10 (8) FLAMINGO/LIGHT 19 * TTS and CROSSBOW switching place for the seventh time again (I stopped counting). * BOB and ZODIAC are still to be spotted in the top of the charts world-wide. This is bullshit, they may be good coders, but they have shown nothing for ages which should have qualified them for the charts. * SLAMMER enters the charts, who will put a bit of excitement in the top of the charts I hope. MMS/TABOO is replaced. + BEST GRAPHICIANS - MAY 1994 + [Legal Chart] POS. L.POS. SCENERS NAME... POINTS -------------------------------------------------------------- 1 (3) CREEPER/ANTIC 86 2 (1) ELECTRIC/EXTEND 79 3 (2) OGAMI/FAIRLIGHT 66 4 (4) JOE/WRATH DESIGNS 60 5 (6) CRUISE/ELYSIUM 39 6 (5) HEIN HOLT/FOCUS 38 7 (9) ROB/CAMELOT 23 8 (8) MIRAGE/FOCUS 21 9 (7) DRAGON/CENSOR DESIGNS 19 10 (-) SANDER/FOCUS 11 * CREEPER is back on the thrown as the best graphician in the world in the eyes of the voters. ELECTRIC is sent off, but by the look of the point-difference in the top, it seems as if the TOP 2 will remain unchanged for a while. * By popular demand, the strong FOCUS trio, HEIN HOLT, MIRAGE and SANDER are finally together in the top 10. But it seems as if they need to prove something to reach a place worth mentioning. Also ROB is doing quite well at the time. We bid goodbye to CARRION/ELYSIUM who moves out the chart. + BEST MUSICIANS - MAY 1994 + [Legal Chart] POS. L.POS. SCENERS NAME... POINTS -------------------------------------------------------------- 1 (1) SYNDROM/TIA/CREST 87 2 (2) JEROEN TEL/PHYZICS 74 3 (6) PRI/TIA/OXYRON 55 4 (3) DRAX/VIBRANTS/CREST 48 5 (5) +A-MAN 40 6 (4) DANKO/CENSOR DESIGNS 34 7 (-) +REYN OUWEHAND 19 - (-) +DOS 19 9 (10) RED DEVIL/FAIRLIGHT 18 10 (-) JEFF/CAMELOT 17 * SYNDROM still a very popular and skilled musician, he is the answer of 1994 to the legendary JEROEN TEL and JCH. JEROEN TEL will be actual soon with both a new tune and an exclusive interview for the coming edition of REVEALED. We will be looking forward to that one. * REYN OUWEHAND and DOS re-enters the charts, although they have both left the scene. STOP voting for DEAD people. * JEFF re-enters. Let's hope he will do better this time. + BEST CRACKING GROUP - MAY 1994 + [Illegal Chart] POS. L.POS. GROUP NAME.. POINTS -------------------------------------------------------------- 1 (1) SCS+TRC 88 2 (2) TRSI 66 3 (7) TALENT 48 4 (4) ALPHA FLIGHT 41 5 (-) AVANTGARDE 40 - (3) CHROMANCE 40 7 (6) LEGEND 31 - (4) +ILLUSION 31 9 (8) TRIAD 27 10 (10) MOTIV 8 25 * The great co-op SUCCESS and THE RULING COMPANY still quite unbeatable at the top. For anyone else to take over, it would need a tremendous amount of PR work. Get on with it. * TALENT moves up the chart like a rocket, and looks to be ready to take over the chart in the coming months. But it will be a tough quest though. AVANTGARDE finally enters the charts, and a good bid for a new chart dominator aswell. And at the same time TRANCE moves out, and ILLUSION looks to be flushed the same way soon. About time. + BEST CRACKERS - MAY 1994 + [Illegal Chart] POS. L.POS. SCENERS NAME... POINTS -------------------------------------------------------------- 1 (1) BURGLAR/SCS/TRC 89 2 (2) POWERPLANT/LEGEND 59 3 (3) JACK ALIEN/AVANTGARDE 54 4 (10) DERBYSHIRE RAM/AVT 34 5 (5) COUNT-ZERO/TALENT 30 6 (-) BOD/TALENT 25 7 (6) XXX/LEGEND 23 8 (-) DOC/LEGEND 21 9 (8) CROSSFIRE/MOTIV 8 20 10 (6) +BENSON 20 * The superb BURGLAR remains the king of cracking without having any difficulties with the competition. But I suppose it is understandable, when someone like POWERPLANT comes in second (he has not done anything for ages). * DERBYSHIRE RAM enters the top of the chart, while it is a goodbye to HAIN/F4CG and TSS/SILICON LTD. * BOD re-enters the charts, eventhough he has done nothing for ages. The same goes for DOC - think before you vote + BEST MAGAZINES - MAY 1994 + [Overall Chart] POS. L.POS. MAGAZINE NAME... POINTS -------------------------------------------------------------- 1 (3) NITRO 74 2 (1) SPLASH 63 3 (2) NETWORK 48 4 (5) +A-HEAD 47 5 (4) SKYHIGH 44 6 (5) THE PULSE MAGAZINE 37 7 (10) +ADDYBOOK 21 8 (-) REFORMATION 16 - (7) MIRACLE 16 10 (-) REVEALED 15 * NITRO takes over the # 1 spot from SPLASH, although I must say I simply cannot understand why any of the top 4 mags are even in the charts. But I guess the voters know why. * REFORMATION and REVEALED are introduced to the charts, but are still behind with votes from the top. * ADDYBOOK is dead for a couple of months, so give your vote to the magazines who is actually still around. Also A-HEAD is more dead than alive. You got one vote - USE IT PROPER. + BEST SWAPPERS - MAY 1994 + [Overall Charts] POS. L.POS. SCENERS NAME... POINTS -------------------------------------------------------------- 1 (1) CALYPSO/AMNESIA 83 2 (2) NIGHTSHADE/SCS+TRC 61 3 (3) DERBYSHIRE RAM/AVT 51 4 (5) ACIDCHILD/TABOO 50 5 (4) BIZARRE/AFL 49 6 (6) SPLATTERHEAD/CHROMANCE 40 7 (10) STARLIGHT/EXTACY 17 8 (-) ANIMAL/SLASH DESIGNS 14 9 (-) TABASCO/FAIRLIGHT 13 10 (-) STYX/AFL 10 * CALYPSO still the most favourable swapper in the scene, he unique with his fast replies and always up to date with the latest stuff. * STARLIGHT moves up the chart, getting ready to enter the top of the chart once again. BIZARRE goes down again, and the days he roamed this chart seems far away. * ANIMAL, TABASCO and STYX enters the chart while LEECH, SYNDROM and LUKA drops out. + OVERALL CHART - MAY 1994 + [Overall Chart] POS. L.POS. GROUP NAME... POINTS -------------------------------------------------------------- 1 (2) OXYRON 304 2 (1) CREST 272 3 (3) SCS+TRC 238 4 (7) AVANTGARDE 179 5 (4) CENSOR DESIGNS 170 6 (5) FAIRLIGHT 167 7 (-) CAMELOT 154 8 (6) LEGEND 134 9 (-) TALENT 103 10 (-) AFL 100 * OXYRON is the new king in the scene, with a huge 304 points granded by the voters. CREST are sent off to the second place, while SUCCESS and THE RULING COMPANY are waiting for a way to break the ice. * AVANTGARDE got a lot of votes last month, and now they really look to be one of the big groups of the future. At the same time CAMELOT, TALENT and ALPHA FLIGHT enters the chart while TRANCE, TABOO and COMIC PIRATES is send out of the chart
World of demos
+ WORLD OF DEMOS - DEMO/GRAPHICS REVIEWS + ------------------------------------------------------ We are sorry to have to announce, that the MAY edition of WORLD OF DEMOS is cancelled. The reason for this, is the fact that STEVE and our new graphics critic NEPTUNE were unable to finish their reviews in time. As the General Editor of WORLD OF DEMOS, I will not hold back my disappointment about this, but again, those demo people are not the most active ones - you know! We hope to be able to present WORLD OF DEMOS next month, with probably an estimated 10 demos on the program. Be sure to send us YOUR latest demo if you want it to be reviewed in the eyes of the whole scene - it is a chance for you to get a bit of true response on your work. Once again, I am very sorry about this months WORLD OF DEMOS, and I hope that STEVE and NEPTUNE will come up with a proper excuse for their absence to you next month. Signed, DUKE GENERAL EDITOR
Special assignment
+ SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT - DEBATE AND INFORMATON + ----------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to a world of debate and information, brought to you by SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT. Last month we passed a milestone of 11 editions of serving the readers with discussions about important topics concer- ning the scene and its inhabitants. We have touched just about every major topic, and sadly we are getting closer to the buttom of the barrel. In the light of this months message labeled by THE PULSE, we at SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT would also like to follow up on that point. The readerinteraction these days is as poor as it can get. It is a sad result of the incredible amount of magazines out there, with most of them ruining the chance of the once who do rely on response from the readers to get anywhere with our projects. We will keep on discussing different topics, but as long as YOU, the reader, keep your opinions to yourself, you will not be able to enter the discussion, and make a difference to the scene - although you CLAIM to give a damn. Last month we discussed the wars in the scene, debating whether they are beneficial or destructive to the scene. We are the first to open a discussion about this topic, one which has been at the concern of about 70% of the sceners since the beginning of the scene. But eventhough the importance of this topic is greater than any, we receaved but only ONE letter about this. It is sad for us to acknowledge, that the most read and spread magazine these days, do not qualify in terms of being able to collect enough response to make a follow up on our discussions. MAIL US NOW - MAKE A DIFFERENCE.. Although the response on this topic was as bad as the last edition of the TRIBUNE, we will continue to debate it, simply because we find it to be a VERY valid topic. The address to write to : THE PULSE MAGAZINE XXXX XXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX XX XXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXX RESPONSE BY SPECTATOR/XENON/ALPHA FLIGHT Thanks for THE PULSE, again a splendid edition. Anyway, here follows a reaction towards the subject "WARS" in your magazine. You say most mageditors are not able of the job, editing a mag. Because they start to write about real life (music, etc.) and I agree. Most of the time it SUX! But you seem to be running out of chapters too? Haha. No seriously. I personally think wars in the scene are not always that cool, especially when people leave the scene due to a war. But they belong to the scene, and can sometimes also be "cool". But wars are started by themselves, you should not help them start. If you give wars "rules" I think they will lose their originality, so I suggest you do something else, something different. Be THE PULSE, be original. But who am I to say that? Well, you asked for reactions, here you have one. Why not make a chapter that "reports" wars? Be there, when they occur. But do not help them start, okay? COMMENTS FROM THE EDITOR "Teaching the untaught" was a slogan made by one of the true war-fanatics, GENE of ILLUSION. Although he is not in the scene anymore, his words will be remembered by many. I had the honour myself of fighting with him on the US boards for about two years, quite a long time. You may ask what this has to do with anything, but to me his slogan fits great to my comments towards your response. The wars of today are very hard, with people fighting over details, requiring the opponents to be on top all the time to keep up with the pace of the discussion. Most of the time it takes very little time until one of the opponents lose on one of the details, and therefore SHOULD be announced as the loser of the argument - but no. We do have rules in the scene, but they are UNWRITTEN LAWS, which can easily be broken and misinterpreted. This often results in uglier fights, and later on people DO leave the scene because of the nastiness of the fight. This can be avoided, by installing a system to the wars, making sure they stay clean and far. One of the things I have learned from my experience with wars, is that when engaging the opponent on enemy territory, the followers of the war would announce my opponent as the winner of the war, eventhough I was obviously the winner. It is clearly a conspiracy of my opponent and his friends and group-members, who are stationed on his territory. The same goes if I were to war on home-territory against someone better than me, I would probably be announced the winner due to the fact that the followers are friends of mine. This is a biased way of judging a war, but unfortunately a very actual thing. The best warriors chose to war on enemy territory because of the extra challenge, while sometimes two equaly strong opponents chose a neutral place to get a fair response from the followers of the war. All this would not be necessary with a set of rules. It clearly speaks for itself, it works in the advantage of the scene and the winners will get the victory they deserve. That is about enough from me this month, this topic will continue next month, so be sure to send me your opinion about this subject - make a difference. * What do you feel about arranged wars? * Do you feel wars are beneficial or destructive to the scene and why? * Comments to what is written in this edition. Everything worth while using a piece of paper on with YOUR opinions should be sent to us no later than the 25th of MAY. Up next is the 4th edition of the INTERNET, as always done by MASON of MOTIV 8. INTERNET ********* Well, another article about the internet is here! This time we write about the big world from your internet-addy, when you are using the FTP and TELNET systems. About FTP-sites: *************** As I told you in the first article there are two ways to be connected on internet. You can be connected as user for sending/recieving mail or you can also use the FTP-system. When you are using the FTP-system you can connect on FTP-sites - it the same like connecting to a board! The only difference is that your are connecting as "anonymous" (they say it is, but if you look close at the text on the FTP-site, they have written your internet-address on the screen). Here you can upload/download programs! Official you can only download shareware, freeware and PD, but if you know the FTP-sites number and the correct dir you can find non- shareware on the most so-called legal FTP-sites(fx. a direc- tory is called ".. " - the first dot will hide the subdir). You have to know where to find the non-shareware FTP-sites, because fx. FBI is watching on the FTP-sites too (they have a computer-section with 400 working people to stop the illegal FTP-sites and it's the not same section, who's working with ATT-hacking). The positive thing about downloading from FTP-sites: IT'S FREE if you already have your an internet connection. If you know some illegal FTP-sites then contact, because right now I only have FTP-sites with illegal (L)Amiga stuff and that's boring. If you have any send a letter to my inter- net-address: t44 [] aarhues.dk Instead of using [] you have using an alfa-zero sign. The sign right to your "P" on your COMMODORE 64 keyboard. Playing MUD on the internet ************************ When you're FTP-connected you can also use the TELNET & playing MUD. MUD is an adventure game and here you have your person. When you are playing MUD many others are play- ing in the game at the same time and now comes the troubles, because the person you are meeting: Will he KILL you or is he a friend of you. If you are into adventure-gaming you like playing MUD. On my school (The school of informatics) the record 40 hours in one row! Come on can you beat the record. Let me see your letter if you can! Use the internet-address you can find it in the end of this article). Extra functions ************** There are extras on the FTP-sites/TELNET too! You can also find a speakers corner and you find news in different news groups. As the last words I will say thanks for all the letters to me I have got on the internet-address. More and more people are joining up the list of internet users! If you still havn't given us your internet-addy, then send it the address below. t44 [] aarhues.dk Replace the [] sign with an alfazero-sign.

Meet the press
+ MEET THE PRESS - THE PULSE MAGAZINE + ------------------------------------------------- Welcome to the readers very own chapter, the chance to meet the people responsible for the release of this magazine. We accept letters addressed to ANYONE within our staff, leaving you with the obtion to use your voice to make a difference. This chapter was added to the program last month. But sofar it seems as if the most readers have not yet discovered the true nature of Meet The Press, and therefore we will use the opportunity to explain a little further what we request. We feel that without the maximum amount of readerinteraction a magazine is blind, and is heading in no direction. We want for you to send us your opinion about what we write, support and cover. Without the reactions from YOU, the reader, we do not stand a fair chance in our quest to reach the ultimate top of the magazine industry. Therefore we urge everyone of YOU, no matter what nation, group or standard you have, we want to hear from you. We will print all letters in a serious nature. Be sure to send to us before the 25th of every month, to ensure that your letter will reach us in time for the next edition to be released. MEET THE PRESS specialises in the magazine industry. We take a look at some of the magazines around, and with that we give you an objective view of the actual situation in the scene from a magazine point of view. This month we have invited a guest to discuss the current standard of the readerinteraction. There are probably more magazines released today than every before, about 50 to be more precise. But only about 10 are released every month, and just a couple of the 10 are released on a monthly basis. We will therefore also discuss the different magazines success and background - all this exclusive to MEET THE PRESS. But before we get started, let me just out down the address for you to write to : THE PULSE MAGAZINE XXXX XXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX XX XXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXX You will also be able to call us at +45-98181265. Be sure to mark your letter with the name of the person your reaction is written towards. READERINTERACTION OF 1994 ------------------------------ We live in a time, where the most important product in the scene is the magazine. Without the magazine, the scene would not be what it is today. But how involved is the sceners with the progress of the magazines, and do they really care about what is written in todays magazines? We have invited one of the more experienced magazine editors, to discuss the actual standard of the readerinteraction of 1994. Please welcome, NEOTEC/REBELS/F4CG, general editor of NEWS PRESS. [D] Welcome Michael. How would you describe the job of being a magazine editor these days? [N] The job of a magazine editor is very difficult and quite demanding. You have to know a lot about the scene, you need a good English and enough enthusiasm. Most of the things around a magazine you have to organize by yourself, do not expect too much from others or nothing will work properly. I noticed that many guys/groups only release a magazine to get fame, that's nonsense because a magazine is a 'platform' for the whole scene, where you communicate with your fellow- sceners, tell the, the latest news, discuss problems etc. Therefore it is really wrong if an editor is a small-minded guy who only uses the magazine to become famous. [D] I most definitely agree with that. Fame will come to the deserving ones and not those with the wrong motive. But I guess the scene is built in such a way, that if you are not fully qualified in what you do, you will find out fast enough. How would you describe the scene as a magazine editor? [N] The scene nowadays is still okay in my opinion, although many sceners seem to know nothing about it or ignore the rules of our community intentionally. Affairs like HUNTER's fake IKARI (IKARI has surely turned in its grave) or the latest fake-firsties done by MENDRAKE under the SACRED label prove my thesis. We all have to teach these lameheads that we do not accept such a behaviour in our scene. Never- theless I think our community is still in order, there have always been affairs and wars, so that is nothing special. [D] But somehow they always surprise us I guess, but as an editor of a magazine, scandals are as sent from heaven, heh. There are a lot of magazines in the scene nowadays (perhaps even too many). What in your opinion should a magazine have as its first priority? [N] I think there are several priorities for a magazine. The scene-relation, the coverage of news, objectivity (as far as possible!), a regular release and a reliably working outfit. [D] Those are the most important things I agree. What is the most important thing a magazine should contain to qualify as a scene-magazine then? [N] A scene-magazine has to contain scene-related text to qualify as a scene-magazine, that simple definition makes a huge variety of magazines possinle. Some say a scene-mag has to publish ONLY scene-related chapters, I think a scene- mag can also deal with other topics and still be interesting. The share of these not scene-related texts should not become more than 20 or 30 % of all chapters though. [D] I believe the problem with not scene-related chapters, is that most magazine editors haven't got the slightest idea of what they are talking about. These days it seems as if the amount of text a magazine includes is the most important factor in the quality of the magazine, which is more certainly misunderstood. How do you rate the readerinteraction these days? [N] I can only talk about the interaction between myself and the readers. Most of the readers are too lazy to write a reaction. Even most of my contacts do not react to the latest NEWS PRESS normally, only if they noticed something negative (in their opinion negative for their group or themselves...). Our spreadwork is quite good, we hardly get a dozen of reactions to an issue though, therefore I think the reader-interaction is poor and really bad at the moment. The people have got used to that consumer attitude. [D] You are right there. It seems as if this has turned into a chronic problem for most magazines, and it is a problem that has yet to find a cure. Do you believe the magazines today are loyal towards their readers in terms of their coverages? [N] 'Loyalty' is not a term I would use for a relation of a magazine and its readers, but I know what you mean. It is senseless to publish mega-charts filling four chapters, four interviews and five address chapters in one issue. All those 'mega-delayed' magazines like SPLASH, NETWORK and others, sometimes delayed more than half a year, are not fair to their readers, a magazine should be released once in a while or announced to be dead. [D] I most certainly agree with that. It really makes no sense that the readers are so loyal towards the 'mega-delayed mags, when infact they are not capable of keeping up what they started. How would you describe the perfect scene-magazine then? [N] I do not know. Perhaps we could come close to this utopia by merging the best mags into one big scene-magazine? The best editors altogether in one staff, that would be a very challeging project. On the other hand I do not think it would work, and I believe that the pluralism - the exchange of views is very important, the most important! [D] There are different opinions on who is a good editor aswell, I know a couple who are considered good by a share of the public, and yet I would not even consider them capable of doing an article. But I admit this is a very difficult topic to discuss, considering the world of different people and opinions. In closing, what is your favourite magazine and why? [N] I have no favourite magazine nowadays. I preferally read the GAMERS GUIDE, SKYHIGH, THE PULSE and REVEALED. GAMERS GUIDE because of its survey of the games world, comparing the different versions is quite interesting. SKY- HIGH because it transmits the 'scene-spirit', it's a great platform for all sceners with its various demo projects and more. THE PULSE is the best magazine concerning the modem- scene (news+first releases) and is published regulary. REVEALED has something special, not only the outfit, I mean the conception of relating users to game producers (or the other way around?). Those were the words and opinions from NEOTEC. We thank him for taking part in MEET THE PRESS. You will be able to see his magazine NEWS PRESS by getting a hold of it either from him or from any of the REBELS swappers. THE READERS REACT UPON THE PULSE MAGAZINE ---------------------------------------------------- We got a couple of letters this month, although it was quite poor with what their contents concerned. We therefore urge you to send us letters written in such a way, that they would be suitable for printing in here. We appreciate the reactions we have got from you, but we could use some with a more serious nature. PRINT ALL NEWS by SNOOZE/BRONX/CHERUBS ------------------------------------------------- Again a nice issue from THE PULSE. No mag has better news, but you just print news from "ELITE" groups and that's not so great. I think that every elite dude has once started in a bad/lame group and with the time he became better and better. But the scene is one big back, and we are all the same if you compare us. So, why do you not print other, maybe not that interesting for the elite, news? Would be nice to see in the next issue. Besides that the issue was cool, especially that I can see DYTEC in the release-charts. They are probably the best German cracking-group, but they are too unknown! Dear SNOOZE, You are correct that we do only report on the news and happenings from the elite sceners and groups. When we first started this magazine, we discussed what news we wanted to report on, and within the staff, we all felt that reporting on ELITE news was preferable. We do not have anything against the unknown, less known, well-known or what ever class you may be at the present time. But the fact that the sceners who enter the scene start out as lamers is the oldest and most valuable tradition in the scene. Without that, a lot of people would quit the 64 and find something with a bit more meaning to it. You may feel that it is a tough nut to crack getting known and accepted as an elite in the scene, but it is a period we all have to go through. You claim that we are all the same in the scene, and that alone is proof enough, that you need a bit more experience in the scene. We are NOT the same, and thank god for that. By looking at all the different products the scene provides, it is very easy to notice how we are different in skills and experience. This is where the scene is divided, and again thank god for that. We chose to keep on printing ONLY the news about the known people and groups, because there is no sense in printing news about people and groups the sceners has never heard of before. THE MENDRAKE AFFAIR by NEOTEC/REBELS/F4CG ----------------------------------------------------- In issue ten (April edition) of THE PULSE I could read some- thing I do not want to believe. I am talking about the 'MEN- DRAKE AFFAIR' and the following is a quotation from the 10th edition of THE PULSE : 'The EMPIRE intros were added by a person claiming to be in EMPIRE. He (MENDRAKE) was simply led to believe that EMPIRE actually released his games, and therefore was not to blame for the incident'. Do not try to make me believe that. MENDRAKE is known as a fascist (or at least his fascist attitude is known) and if you read the greets in the EMPIRE intro (that was linked in front of the SACRED's ASTATIN version) you will see that they greet a group called 'ENDSIEG'. This group does not exist, it is only a NAZI slogan. And the same 'ENDSIEG' is greeted in MENDRAKE's SACRED intro which he linked in front of his fake-firstie of DARK TOWER (DARK TOWER was allegedly 'fixed' by the dead RMJCC, at least their intro was linked). The EMPIRE intro used on ASTATIN was also quite an old one, and as I wrote before RMJCC is dead already. When I got MENDRAKE's releases I knew they were no first-releases, although I am (only) a mailtrader. Is MENDRAKE so lame that he did not know who released ASTATIN (for example) before? And who put the RMJCC intro in front of DARK TOWER then, if MENDRAKE was deceived by 'a person claiming to be in EMPIRE' only? The sole fact that 'ENDSIEG' is greeted in that EMPIRE intro of ASTATIN as well as in the SACRED intro of DARK TOWER proves that ONE guy has written both scrollers and it's sure that MENDRAKE wrote the scroller of the SACRED intro (and also that EMPIRE scroll then!!!). Unless I am not completely mistaken you have to check this 'story' again, I cannot because I do not know MENDRAKE. I think MENDRAKE did his releases alone - without any Ameri- cans, but I hope you can prove me wrong. Dear NEOTEC, I would have expected some people to react upon my forward coverage of the SACRED scandal, the reason for that was my objective view on the situation. The fact of the matter is, that I do not feel it is my job to judge people, but to report on what happens. MENDRAKE wrote a note explaining that he was innocent in the scandal, putting the blaim on a pair of faceless sceners. It is obvious to me who did it, and probably also to the rest of the scene, but I see it as subjective journalism if I wrote that he actually did it all by himself, when I first of all do not know anything about his person or methods (you obviously know more about him than I do), so I simply wrote about what WAS obvious. He explained his story, SPLATTERHEAD the same, and I wrote both of their explana- tions. I call that objective journalism - nothing else to it. THE BATTLE OF THE READERS ------------------------------- We live in a day and age where the scene has diminished to a level which is most undesireable. But somehow the media has grown into the strongest industry in the 64 scene, and it is still growing. The fastest growing industry has also brought with it a massive amount of competition, really contradicting the fact that owners of other systems claim the 64 to be dead. The 64 has proven to still have a whole lot to offer, and the huge number of magazines, aswell as the competition, is more than enough evidence of that. The magazines however are quite different in their choice of contents. Most of the mags in the scene today all have the same regular chapters, such as the news and advertisement sections. But that is just about it. Then comes a lot of very different chapters, and some magazines have even made a big number out of doing chapters about sport, music, arcades, etc. What kind of a progress is that? Will the information of the latest music albums and sport results solve the inactivity problem in the scene? Does it have a general interest? The only conclusion we can reach from this, is that todays mag editors are so hung up on being able to produce a certain amount of text, making their magazine the biggest in the scene - so much for quality. You may think that it does not really matter what chapter the magazine editors come up with, as long as they are interesting it would be okay. But honest to god, I have yet to see even one non scene-related chapter in mag even worth while giving the time of day. To cut a long story short - THEY SUCK! The magazine editors do not have an interest in the non scene-related chapters they write, it is obvious to those who do have an interest in the topic they write about. An example would be the FOOTBALL chapters around in mags. I saw one a couple of months ago in some mag (can't remember the name of it though), but being the big football enthusiast I am, I gave it a chance and started reading it. I was shocked. It was very clear to me at the first page, that the editors had little or no interest in football at all. BUT WHY WRITE ABOUT IT THEN? It all makes sense. Just like in the business world where we see everyday how every situation is decided upon financial grounds, the magazines has turned into platforms, only caring about one thing - to be able to release a huge magazine. You may think that this is just a theory based on a couple of insidents, but just take a look at the current # 1 magazine in the charts NITRO. This magazine usually (as far as I know) has got 1 whole disk worth of text. But where do you find the revolutionary text? Where is the unique text? Where is the ONE special thing, only the editors of SPLASH are able to give the readers? I ask you, where is it? It is the quest for quantity that has taken over in the world of magazines, no one seem to care about the quality of the text. It is quite strange though, because I still have yet to speak or even notice anyone voting for one of the top 4 magazines in the charts today (NITRO, SPLASH, NETWORK and A-HEAD). Who is voting for these mags, and on what grounds? Most people I know have been in the scene for atleast more than 3 or 4 years, and maybe that is where the difference is notable. The newcomers are the only ones who care about voting these days, and the sceners around for more than 3 years have more or less stopped because they have grown tired of it. Naturally the newcomers do not know about the whole scene, the history and the actual state of groups and even who is around. I know this is a very hard accusation to come up with, but I always back my statements up with some sort of evidence. Let us take a look at some of the people and groups STILL (!) actual in the charts today. DEMO GROUPS : CREST, FLASH INC, LIGHT and BLACKMAIL. CRACKING GROUPS : ILLUSION and LEGEND. PROGRAMMERS : CROSSBOW, ZODIAC, FLAMINGO and YUP. MUSICIANS : DOS, DANKO, A-MAN, REYN OUWEHAND, DEEK, GUY SHAVITT and JCH. CRACKERS : POWERPLANT, XXX, DOC, BOD and SAURON. GRAPHICIANS : HEIN DESIGN. MAGAZINES : SPLASH, NETWORK, A-HEAD, ADDYBOOK, ARISE, FLASHBACK and IMMORTAL FLASH. Those are the cold facts. Sceners either inactive over a long period or have left the scene being awarded an enormous amount of votes EVERY MONTH. The voters ought to get themselves a crash course in WHO is around, and WHO is still doing something. But the worst thing of all, most mag editors do not even complain about the voting of 'dead' sceners. They do not seem to care, because to them doing a magazine is only a method of reaching fame, and the passion of reporting about things seem to have been left out in the quest. The battle of the readers will continue. We all want a fair share of the market, and will use what ever method we see fit to reach our aim. It seems anyone can become famous these days by doing a magazine - it is a golden path to fame and fortune, but at what cost? I would like to underline that this article was not written to make up a couple of extra blocks to this edition of THE PULSE MAGAZINE, but written in the concern of the scene. I am a scener with a big S, and when I see something damaging to the scene I get an instant itch. I hate to see undeserving people collecting the trophy EVERY MONTH. We need to find a cure of this illness fast, otherwise the magazine industry will die faster than it grew into this madness. Today the charts are ignored due to the ignorance of the voters, I want the charts back the way they were in the good old days - a symbol of our appreciation to the great sons and daughters of the scene, not the visitors or deceased. I therefore reach out to EVERY magazine editor, in the hope that they would try a bit harder doing a proper job, atleast with what the charts are concerned. Stop listing them without a single comment, it stinks of quantity and looks as if you do not give a damn. The charts are here - to stay?
