Mixed

Anything maybe said through this chapter as long as it’s not for slagging or degrading other scene fellows, as this maybe done in the Slag Back chapter. What more than a better way to start of this chapter with a very "mixed" up post I buffered recently from the Triad WHQ, The Studio.

"Well what can I say about weird experiences? I first got an Amiga, sold the Amiga, bought a better Amiga. sold the Amiga bought a pc 386, sold the 386, bought a 486 25mhz, sold the 486 25mhz, bought an Amiga 1200, sold the Amiga 1200, bought a 486 33mhz, sold the 33mhz, bought a dx-2/66mhz, sold the 66mhz and bought and Amiga 4000/25mhz. sold the Amiga 4000 and bought a 33mhz pc and now I wanna sell it again bcoz I want an Amiga 1200 to raytrace on. I would better sell all of it and buy another harddrive for my c64 instead!" - Sledge/Fairlight

ED. looks like Thomas has been smoking too many green cigarettes! Firstly though, over to a note from Grego, sysop of In Living Color.

Even after being seized by the government of Texas, ILC still lives. There is now a hard drive online again, and I’m looking for some group activity. I have been out of the scene for a little while but I know there still has to be a commie scene. I am currently looking for mail traders. Greets to anyone still out there. Call ILC or remain lame... many thanks to the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Steve Jackson for protecting the rights of sysops in Texas. Anyone interested in a class action lawsuit against the Harris County District Attorneys office for illegal seizure of your private email on the original ILC, just call and leave feedback. It is a violation of federal law for your email to be seized. If you lost your mail from original ILC, let's sue! Make your stand in cyberspace. ED. can't remember if my account still lies on there but I strongly recommend all to check if they can sue against these lame arseholes that tried to shut down both "Intersection" and "In Living Color" give the board a call.

Something I forgot to publish last issue from Bacchus of Fairlight. Fairlight, euro's #1, seeks reinforcement. We need a new strong coder, preferably Swede, but this is not a necessity! Also, original suppliers are welcome. If you swap originals, take contact with either of our swappers! Apply for membership, include examples and send to:

...and moving onto a small reaction written by myself, as follows:

Dear Tribune staff, normally I don't do this sort of note as a reaction to a magazine, but certain texts printed in The Tribune issue #48 compelled me to write this note (which can be published if you wish). Firstly, I noticed some nice text on the way to vote etc. and to my surprise I was mentioned for voting for PWP, Antitrack, Doc and Fletch (my group members) and also for my own group, Legend. This I did, I normally don't vote my own group in the top-5 unless there was a rule on the actual votesheet that said not to. I am not certain whether the sheet had such a rule or not. But with the crackers, I voted who I think deserved the votes. These days cracking IS deprotection and although there is sceners of good skill, the games are not as hard to crack as they were in old times. I voted those 5 as I deemed them the best in my opinion. I am not caring if they're in Legend or any other group, it’s just that their past and in some cases present releases deserved the votes. Plain and simple. Besides this Antitrack is not a member of Legend (nowadays) as you wrongly stated throughout the interview section.

The next thing about the mag I noticed was an indirect reference to my mag about a rumour of NSD/SCS+TRC cracking certain games under the AFL label. Well, with this rumour was written directly on the back of a votesheet and as a magazine editor, I thought it my duty to publish this, whether it be true or false (although according to the supplier, there should be evidence that implies its true.) well, just to take note of the "cracks" at hand. The games released were not really cracks in the sense. They were merely very poor games which had an intro linked to the front and then packed down. which any experienced scener could do (even an "arrogant" mag editor like me can do it!!:)) so that totally removes your defence on NSD's cracking capabilities (although I am not blaming Norbert for nothing just merely informing the public of facts, besides this NSD has his say in this issues Slag Back chapter.)

Finally there comes the review of my magazine, Domination issue #2. A small mistake begins this review, the scrutineer publishes it as being released under Legend, well as most people know (and would realise with the intro) that Domination is an independent magazine from the very beginning. the next thing that drew my attention was the allegations of me as "bragging" and, quote, "with The Pulse gone he now thinks he will be the number one board mag now.." well I have never claimed to be number one, or in anyway brag about my magazine. I just edit to the way I like it and then release it. Contradiction is not a good policy if accusing other people or false actions. for example reading the intro text of The Tribune issue #48, would show that the editor is a bit over modest saying that the scene is running out of excuses not to vote which in my opinion is just a little bit of the old "hey, come on and vote for us!!" type attitude. Actually, through out the entire magazine there is a continuos slagging or general disapproval of The Pulse magazine and its main editor, Duke. Well I say this, if I claim or think that my magazine was to be number one, then how come I was editing The Pulse, Vandalism and Domination simultaneously. I write text for magazines because I enjoy it and not for some dumb, ego jolting chart position in some magazine. Moving to the next quote: "while Vandalism News is now no good to him". The Vandalism main editor, Vengeance of SCS+TRC and I happen to be very close friends. I have been thinking of my own mag for sometime now and as the first to do board related chapters for Vandalism, I felt pressured by the work load and left the active editing staff of that magazine even though I still do small services for that magazine such as sending board buffers to the main editor... So where does this "no good to him" nonsense come from?? Perhaps the figment of someone's deranged imagination??! Who knows?...

Next on the list was you claiming more than once that I cheat the charts. Well as a little bit of evidence I have sent the vote datas and source editor that I used so you can verify it yourself. What I think you are referring to is where I described my charts chapter in the table of contents as quote, "cheated of course", well have you heard of irony or dry humour?! Maybe the high position of legend in the crack group charts sparked your allegation? Well as most know, I am a megaswapper. The friends I swap with certainly know I am in legend, and as most people have experienced in the past, certain votes are swayed over to the mag editor or magazines group. I even stated in the comments of this particular chart that "legend shouldn't be as high!!".

Next is the comments on the reactions chapter. Well a question you ask is "how come the reactions are mainly from members of well known groups?" the answer to this is simple, nearly all of my reactions come from emails from bulletin boards worldwide. This in itself is the answer. People who call boards are generally from well known groups, especially those who appear on the American boards, of which I call most frequently. If the comments are not negative can I help it? This chapter is the scener's say and I cannot change this. I myself have asked in email and also in the actual magazine, for the reactions to be constructive as possible and to hopefully be the basis of eventually improving the magazine. So don't shoot the messenger!

Reading through the issue I noticed several times that legend and myself were mentioned in a negative way. I thought well, why would the editors or Entropy have anything against Legend, myself or our products??! Then after a few minutes it came to me that one of the main editors had joined Avantgarde as second group. Of course most active sceners would know that AVT and Legend are not on friendly terms! So was this some sort of attack? I suppose I cannot claim it is, but its just a coincidence. That’s really all I have to say. Hopefully the way you react to this won't be as provoking as some of the recent Tribune texts were to me...

Regards,

Jazzcat/Legend
Main editor of Domination.
Former editor and contributor to Vandalism news, The Pulse, Wetworks and Newspress.

Additional comments: well I decided to include my reaction in this mixed chapter, as I really am not in the search for war, just a mere point of facts so that the scener could view both parties and then decide for themselves.
