Hello and welcome folx, to another new chapter in the SKYHIGH, namely the

CUPID CORNER

Yes,I know,it looks as if it only was a big rip-off of Biz Kid's BizMix,so what? To me,editing a mag does also mean showing my very own opinion about the things going on,and to avoid a big blurr of text, i do this in my personal chapter rather than inclu- ding it in any of the others. Some people might say it's selfish not to say narcistic, but, hey, thoughts are there to be spread, otherwise they would be worthless, right?

Now,this chapter contains all the things, that made me listen up the last few weeks, that impressed me, or that just pissed me off!

Without further beating round the bush, here we go...

CHARTS

are the first thing, that annoyed me... I've been spreading a lot of votesheets to my contax lately, and when i got them back,i always checked, who they voted for. And some things really got on my nerves there!

Like

COMMERCIAL CODERS+ARTISTS

Some people voted Manfred Trenz in the Coders and Graphicians chapter. I do not see a single trace of thought or research in there. first, these are SCENE charts,a possibility to pay tribute to other sceners, and Manfred Trenz hasn't been active in the scene for a long time,if ever. This man made his works for money, and not too less, believe me. Don't you get me wrong now,he really was a great artist on this machine, but, and that's a fact,he is not anymore, and he did it to earn money, not for the entertainment of the scene,so what's the point of him being in the charts?

Working in the scene as a Coder,Graphician,Musician, or whatever means spending some of your sparetime to entertain others and to get known by this. Now, it is really hard to see, that some people do not appreciate that, but just vote for getting their ad in a mag! If you don't know, who to vote for, just leave the place vacant, before you do something wrong...

Same goes with active/inactive sceners. Still a lot of people vote for Hein Holt or Jeroen Tel. (Hey, Barry,no mistake here!)! Well,Hein surely was a great artist,if not the best, and everyone loves JT's tunes, but are they active? Hell no! FOCUS clearly pointed that out, when they showed one of Hein's pics (the boar from the '93 party) in Visual Delight 2, but still i see his name in the charts! OK,he would surely fit in a "alltime-graphician" chart, but not in the newest ones!

I just can't understand, that people are selfish enough to use "VOTE" as an ID,when they used their handle as header, but on the other side, cling to the past by voting for long gone celebrities...

So much for that,my advice still remains to think before voting,as you can't expect others to vote you, when you still don't know, who is keeping this scene up or not...

The other thing i considered strange was:

LANGUAGE

Let's face it,guys, the scene is a multinational pheno mena! Now,to to avoid misunderstanding, there has to be ONE language. This language, however, has to be English,as this is the language, that's been educated in nearly every Country on this globe. What's the most wanted thing when producing a demo or a tool, game, whatever? You want it to be widely spread, that's why you send it to the megaspreaders!

Now,when using your native language, you can bet, that it wouldn't be spread that far! For example i really was disappointed, when getting some really cool tools, that i couldn't come clear with,as the instructions were in polish language. Now,i am still lucky,as my ex-girlie is polish, and therefore can act as the translator for me,but, still it's a drag to bother others...

It's obvious, that some people do have troubles writing English, but, hey,it can't be that hard to find a guy, that is able to translate your sentences,or?

One polish contact of mine once wrote to me,quote "I know my english is shitty,so i try to do better. could you tell me when i make mistakes?". I really liked that, not that he asked me,but that he dared to ask,and that's a step into the right direction!

It's sometimes a shame,as really good ideas come out to be dead-born children, because of a lack of under standing outside your native country!

Examples? I got a "demo" lately, called Makaron from the group "Kluski". This demo included a Zoo-Tv part, with very strange words, and, as i was curious,i got them translated. Now,the message was "Racism, Fascism - you won't get far with this kind of shit!" Not bad,ey? But still pearls for swine, when noone understands it...

So,please, stick to English, that's the one and only way to guarantee the spreading of your works! Well, still there are more things, that pissed me off, but i don't want to shoot all my bullets (Hi,Kenny!) here,as more Cupid Corners are there to come...

So,on with the things, that fascinated me in a positive way lately...

The first thing were

FUSIONS

Yes,the best example, however,is the SHOUT,a fusion of the mag Ingenious Brain and the Reformation, complete with a fusion of the producing groups,EQX and FLT. That's a good decision, indeed,as the scene today has too many mags and too many groups,to be fully open. I think, that if some smaller groups unite to form one big crew,it could be a better start than starting from scratch with only 2 or three members.

Another nice thing was to see some old legends coming back again, like LIGHT (Hi,Goblin!) or Megastyle, Inc. (Now MSP). Light also announced, that Smooth Criminal will be released again, and from the AVT side, there are "rumours" going on that they'll also do a fusionmag, including the old legendary magnetic media MAMBA!

Signs are pointing up again,a good new(?) vibe in the C64 Biz.

It seems as if the C64 is some kind of drug, once you are addicted, you'll come back some day sooner or later (although all my attempts at the party to get Trap/Bonzai back failed...)...

Another positive aspect,is that there really are some

GAMES

released these days, that are worth to spend some time on. After some months, where only games got released, that have a 100 times used idea underneath scene strikes back with some really decent stuff. Some of them were reviewed in the review chapter,so i won't waffle about these now,but it really is a nice thing again.

Well, this concludes my personal brainstorm for this time,if you have anything to say against or in favour of my point of view, feel free to write it on the back of a sheet or drop me a line, but don't expect me to answer,i'll do that in here,as i couldn' afford anymore, timewise, that is...
