is it because ALFA TECH missed to
mail me that missing file of KARAMALZ
CUP? nope!
is it because ARCON kept blowing one
compo after the other till we found
the problem in the power unit? nope!
is it because i waited and waited
and waited for PORTFOLIO, the graphix
show from DANE? nope!
is it because so few people sent us
games to test? well, that is true, but
naaa, that is not the real reason.

drinking heavily, partying like hell
and been socializing with bad ladies?
gosh how i wish that was it, but i
don´t get drunk on a big glass of
PEPSI with a dash of tequila.
and as for the bad ladies, i can´t
remember when last i saw one, but i
must admit that now you are getting
warmer. at least partly.

the truth is:
i am so fed up with game testing
that i just keep pushing it off to the
next day and the next day turnes into
the next week. this time it even
turned into the next month.

let it be known that from now on, i
will NOT be doing any testing for THE
GUIDE except those that are upped on
THE STUDIO.
ok, i know i said so before, but it
was just a smokescreen to stop new
people from sending me games. it did
not work and i couldn´t say no.
now i say NO and this time it will
have to be universal. the only option
is the end of THE GUIDE. no one else
is willing to do the writing, so there
you are.

then of course it didn´t make my
life easier that i ran into a set of
blue eyes on top of the warmest smile

i can´t keep my mind on anything for
more than a few minutes. after that,
my thoughts wanders off into the blue

and i can´t have her! but then again

in THE GUIDE for up to three months
giving all a chance to appear.
we want ALL versions in THE GUIDE, but
there is no way we can hunt for them.
we need YOUR HELP to send them to us.
at least we test them, but mostly we
also try to play through them. thus we
do NOT accept only written reports.
versions are listed in order of their
length. this was decided after voting
open to all the readers.

long ago when we started making THE
GUIDE, we knew we would have to change
it now and again not to bore people.
we decided as a minimum to change
the intro, the swing-logo and the
music every 5 issues or preferably
more often if we could.
we have done such changes all the
time. maybe we couldn´t do it as often
as we would have prefered, but there
has never been as many as 5 issues
that looked the same.
NO NAZI - NO COVARD

issues 15.5, 16, 17 and 18 all had
the same swing-logo, music and intro.
time for a change again.
THIS was the ONLY reason for us to
change the logo, but naturally someone
saw a connection to the reaction in
issue # 19.
recently i was interviewed for one
of the better mags and was asked what
i think makes TRIAD different from
most groups. such a question is never
easy to answer. one sort of knows
without being able to put it into
words. now i realized one answer. --->

generally the members in TRIAD have
a maturity that is not too common.
if we think we have done something
wrong, we have no problem admitting
that. if we change our minds on how to
do things, we have no problem to admit
that. that is maturity - that is TRIAD
we never had any problem with the
swinglogo we used in issues # 15.5-19.
if that had been the case, we would
have said so.

talking about the swinglogo reminded
me of another thing.
in # 19 it was red on light gray.
here in # 20 it is gold on red.
this is the result of a dicussion we
had in TRIAD. the present standing is
3 to 4.
just for the fun of it, please tell
your TRIAD dealer which one of the
colors you prefere.

the software companies selling games
through different chanels mark their
pieces with a copy-right mark and when
appropriate also a trade mark classed
as a registered trademark.
once in a while a group has coded
a game that they release on their own
and doing so their highest wish is for
their game to be spread all over the
place.
they mark their piece as freeware,
pd, smileware or whatever. -->

i have been collecting games since
1986 and that means that i have picked
up games cracked in 1983 and onwards.
in all those many thousands of crax
made by many houndred groups over the
years, it is extremely rare that they
have messed with the copy-right mark.
maybe there are as few such versions
as two or three in a box with 90 disks
stuffed with games.
there seem to be an unwritten law of
honour not to mess with the games like
that, but admittedly this is also a
part of "YOU CAN´T TOUCH ME"! -->

for some strange reason the same law
of honour doesn´t seem to apply to the
games done by the groups on the scene
and released to be freely spread.
the latest example of this is the
hockey simulation KARAMALZ CUP. this
game is FREEWARE.
RED SECTOR removed the whole page
where the credits were given for the
game and where it said that the game
is FREEWARE and may be freely spread.
F4CG removed the words about -->
FREEWARES

the game being FREEWARE.
F4CG made a sort of translation of
the game and spread it as an original.
the groups who got this "original"
naturally had no way of knowing that
they were working with a game that is
totally free to copy and spread.
as i see it, removing the credits
for making a game and that it is free
to be copied and spread can only be
classified in one way:

KARAMALZ CUP brought up also another
subject, namely translating it into
english, the universal language for
computerists.
both F4CG and RSI have translated
the game.
sort of translated it!
none of them did a complete transla-
tion. none of them know much about
ice hockey. both of them obviously
didn´t understand one part of the
original instructions. RSI left it -->

it out completely and F4CG made a mess
if this part.
when translating from one language
to another, it is important not only
to translate, but also to use the
proper words used by those who speak
that language.
ice hockey originated in canada and
thus english is the proper language.
everything else is translated.
thus translating the instructions
for KARAMALZ CUP is a bad job unless
the proper words are used. -->

the proper hockey terms are: period.
icing, slap shot, roughing and so on
and not the weird translations made by
F4CG and RSI.
true enough, a canadian hockey fan
would understand it anyway, but a
translation should be properly done
never the less.
another recent example is the game
HANS KLOSS from poland or KAPITÄN
KLOSS as is the name of the old tv-
series behind this game. the only
original i have seen so far is a
version that was translated by HAIN.

naturally it is nice of him to
translate it and spread the original,
but it had been a good deal nicer if
he had done a proper job.
as it was, the text inside the game
was not translated. there is a list of
specifications of the v1-bomb and a
speach at the end of the completed
game that were not translated among
other things.
i am sure that a lot of you think
that i am only trying to make myself
important. NOT! there is a heck of a
lot more to it than that. ---->
TRANSLATING

i claim that we are talking about
the survival of the scene and THAT
should be important to ALL of us.
of course a lot of the games can be
played even if we don´t understand all
the words that appear on the screen,
but that is not what is important here
if we all stick to ONE language that
we can use to communicate, there is a
far greater chance that we can keep
the 64 scene living. it will never
last if people stick to their own
language and form smaller cliques.
this would split the efforts. -->

people like HAIN and others who get
their hands on fresh games should take
their responsibility for the future.
now instead all they care for is to
have a first release and to hell with
the rest.

- a few days after the release of #19
yet another ex TWILIGHT member
followed the others into TRIAD. he
is RAVE and he is a swopper.
- only a short time before this goes
to the imaginary printer, one of the
new members, JOHAN, desided to leave
the scene.
this has been pending for some time,
but when he was offered to join
TRIAD he couldn´t resist to have a
dream fullfilled. now reality has
caught up with him and he leaves
computing.

- earlier this year when THUNDER
wanted to once more be on the TRIAD
member list we were thrilled. after
all, he is one of the very best.
:(but that was all it turned out to
be - his name on the member list.
we got no artwork and no answer to
letters, so now he is removed.weird!
- the TRIAD member in australia, SLICE
now has decided to leave the scene.
- RAVAGE is back onboard the TRIAD
fleet as a swopper. for a time he
run the group UNITY.

- ILLUSION OF REALITY, run by MIDNIGHT
MOVER is down untill further notice.
- the loss of JOHAN means delayes of
some TRIAD releases.
- the graphix show by DANE was ready
to be released, but we prefered to
improve the loader first. now it´ll
also be blessed with a special intro
- ARISE will be delayed untill we find
out why it fucks with ACTION REPLAY.
we hope to have an improved code for
it later on, but it will keep the
style of course.

- as we were not alowed to tell you in
# 19, some members left LIGHT for
more action in FAIRLIGHT. those were
VODKA, HCL and SPIROU. this means
that the bbs FUTURE ZONE now is a
FAIRLIGHT and ACTIVE board.
:(ACTIVE had a US first release with
PAIR OF MEMORY and that is of course
good news. what is not as good is
that CALYPSO of AMNESIA recracked
the ACTIVE version.
- not only was it recracked, it had
been worked on after reset! now is
this lame or is this lame?

had found himself a girlfriend.

games to test them for the DMZ

- LEGOLAND 3 is said to have come

program that can scroll 6 screens

arrange periodical meetings in
ARBOGA, something like VENLO.

it´s once again i, VENGEANCE/SUCCESS
doing this corner. let´s get straight
into the headlines and aussie news.
- MATT´, INSANE, MORBID, GOP, SHADES
and GRIZE, all left REBELS to make a
new group called SHAZAM! they also
teamed up with a guy called
TOMB 1202.
- VANDALISM NEWS is now not coming out
under a label, due to the fact that
so many groups work for it.
AUSTRALIAN CORNER

- JAZZCAT/REBELS joined ALPHAFLIGHT
1970 as an original supplier. he
pushed REBELS back to be his second
group.
- CRUZE left LITHIUM and joined RAD,
but is again searching for another
group to work with.
- METRO left the scene so his game
will never be released.
- WITTY joined ACCURACY (at least that
is the rumour i´m hearing).

- PARALAX is dead. all members except
for GOP joined TSR.
well, as you can see, not a hell of
a lot happened allthough after serious
planning with UPTONOGOOD, we ourselves
in OZ have devised a way to run a
gamers guide type of chapter in
VANDALISM. it´s only for australia at
the moment. it´s already working as
well with almost every aussie group
starting to crack games.

well back again with what bit of
news there has been in the U.K.
ROY of MAYHEM has changed his handle
back to JOKER. says it sounds better.
MET of MAYHEM is in prison. he got
six months for assaulting two
policemen earlier this year. with good
behaviour he should be out by the end
of august. so if you got nothing from
him, now you know why.
REBEL left ILLUSION at the end of
july to join LEGEND. this came after
BRITISH CORNER

he had some differences of opinion
with BRETT, the PURGATORY sysop. it is
rumoured that some others may also
leave the group, but this is still
only rumours so far.
the first game to appear in the U.K.
since may 4th, was released on august
4th. this was SCEPTRE OF BAGHDAD from
PHOENIX SOFTWARE and marketed by a new
company PSYTRONIK SOFTWARE, a branch
of the PD company BINARY ZONE.
they are hoping to market in the
future quite a lot of budgetgames done
by freelance programmers on the 64. ->

OCEAN have still not completed their
latest game JURASSIC PARK. it will not
be finished until october at least.
this scotches all rumours that LEGEND
have had this game for over one week
now awaiting cracking and fixing.
LIVERPOOL, ARSENAL, NIGEL MANSELL´S
GRAND PRIX and SUBURBAN COMANDO have
all had their release dates put back
yet again. in fact the GRAND PRIX game
may never appear on the 64 according
to GREMLIN GRAPHICS.

sources that there are many projects
going on in the JUDAS DESIGN team.
seems like there is a new, USEFULL
graphics tool named MONGOPAINT in
production, could be fun!
bet that most of you have missed one
of the best demos this year. it is
named ACHMED and it was made by this
nice JUDAS crew.

if you missed it, this was probably
because it was never translated. who
knows, maybe someone realizes the need
for this.
further rumours whisper that there
might be a follow up by the name:
ACHMED GOES DISCO. we hope the rumours
are correct!
bet there will be more of those nice
and mighty JUDAS productions. hope
there will be, since they inspire
to do new things.
for instance LAMEX is considering

producing a CRABDANCE editor, but then
again, maybe JUDAS DESIGN will beat
them to it.

here´s the reciepe for a REAL scener
birthday cake.
cover the bottom of a deep pan with
6 slices of bread and on them sprinkle
some cornflakes, peas, fishfingers,
ravioli, maccaroni, spaghetti, grated

100% cake.
