we never realy meant to rank the
versions, but in the first few issues
we did that anyway.
we seriously mean that removing crap
from the code to make a crack shorter,
is a sign of quality. so we ranked the
cracks on length.
however, since there are other ways
to make a crack really short, we
stopped ranking them.
unfortunatly people still saw the
order of length as ranking.

finnish coder PALADIN. he spread it as
public domain. in the game intro you
can read that he wants you all to
spread it.
so how can anyone count it as a
crack? this has gone too far. everyone

is not too old. on a hungarian party i
met BOB/CENSOR and talked a lot with
him. we were talking about cracking
and the long-short cracking and short
or long intros. i think his opinion
is quite right. because think:
who are the big crackers, always on
charts?: ikari+talent, legend,
dominators etc. and they all make cool
cool intros. and interestingly they're
ones who get to the charts, not the
1x1 scroll-intro crackers! well, i
dont say that i+t is great only for

the letter from kaschow is a very
representative example of the letters
we got to THE GUIDE on this subject.
apart from GREG everyone wanted the
listing to go by order of length even
though they were aware of some
possible drawbacks.
as kaschow says, there are more
groups using short intros today than
before THE GUIDE. it is no doubt that
this is brought out by THE GUIDE.
but is it really so hard to make a
short intro that is also nice? ---->

now we are into the dangerious field
of taste, but i really consider our
own intro made by MR.Z to be nice.
that and the one by JANITOR was made
long before there was any talk of
the length of intros.
in late 1987 TRIAD released a
collection of the most used intros and
ALL of them were short. a collector
worth his name must have that one. no
wonder i got mad at omg when he called
me a lier when i said that short, nice
intros is a TRIAD tradition since the
start. maybe he doesn't like the TRIAD
intros, but that doesn't make me ---->

following the triad tradition, but we
all thought that it was too uggly and
one day i swollowed hard and told him

yes we too would have liked to flash
the 3-5 best versions of a game. the
problem was that it mostly was too
hard to draw the line. to make a
really fair judgement had required
much more testing. there is no way
for anyone to do that as a hobby.

this is the last issue of THE TRIAD
GAMERS GUIDE. ok, we just may do a
christmas collection with all the
games that have appeared in THE GUIDE
since the start, but that is something
else and it is not for certain.
it has not been an easy desision to
drop THE GUIDE, but it is the only
right thing to do.
more than one thing is behind this,
but there is one single reason that
allone would have led to this anyway.

when we started THE GUIDE we did
this with one single goal. we wanted
to support the quality cracking. by
listing all versions released we gave
people a chance to see that there were
better versions than the fast ones.
TRIAD, LIGHT, TRIANGLE and a few
other groups were making far better
cracks than most high speed versions.
even CENSOR DESIGN acknowledged the
value of quality when they took on
METHABOL to do some cracking.
what has happened now is that
quality once again is going down ---->

are new on the cracking scene have as
their only goal to make a mega short
crack.
this is DESTROYING quality and as
a result of this lame attitude the
quality is going down in general.
other groups have as their only aim
to appear in THE GUIDE. because of
this we now have a whole bundle of new
groups that are cracking. because of
this, the quality versions once again
have a hard time to get out to people
who really want quality. ----->

we do not want to take part in that,
so we hereby kill THE GUIDE in the
hope that the worst lamers will stop.
we also hope that a magazine like
AWTB accepts the same responsibility
and drops their activity. frankly, we
don't have much hope for that. even if
hungary have had some good groups for
years passed, a lot of the new
cracking comes from hungary, the land
of AWTB.
i have told a few people about us
dropping THE GUIDE. the reaction has
been one and the same. "oh shit, ---->

we have gotten a few suggestions for
how to get rid of bad quality. some
have been very good ideas, but they

suggestions have offered a realistic
