           about mad of padua

alright dudes.. this interview was done
live at my place (biz kid!) 1st of jan.

this time i proudly bring you a person
from the english scene into your house!
he is known to the masses as :

              mad of padua

ok let's get this started right now!

              -------------

? yo mad first i would like to say thanx
for the nice time we had in herning
and at my place (this also goes for
  betrayer of xentrix !!)

ok pal please introduce yourself to
  the masses!

! this is mad of padua!!! that stands
  for michael arrowsmith design for
those who did not know (biz!!!) and
i live in the wet and windy shores of
  the u.k.

? ok that was about your handle and the
place you live. please tell us some-
thing about your job in the scene, how
long you have been into the scene, what
do you do besides computing and so on!

! i am a artist/coder/musician/swapper
for padua, and i have been in that
group for about a year and a half...
i started out in a famous english
group called xentrix. other groups i
have been a part of are for example:
t.a.t, mayhem and deadline (where i
  also cracked). besides computing i
study at nightschool, which takes up
  a bit of my time...

? well i guess you also make some money
now and then, coz i know you had saved
up a bit so you could come to da x-mas
  party in herning (bank-robbing ???)

the fact is and was that you actually
took place in one of the most famous
computer parties ever. so was it worth
  it ?
what about the party; did it live up
to your expectations? or was it just a
  big flop?

! herning was my first computer-party,
so i didn't know quite what to expect!
but i thought it was quite cool,
meeting many of my euro contacts and
the attending padua dudes. i thought
  the competition demos/gfx/music was of
  a high standard!...
the only annoying feature was that the
sleeping halls were really cold, (in
fact some people caught colds (biz!!))
also the gfx demo seemed unfair, the
best graphics came nowhere near the
  top ten...

? yes i do agree with you.. i loved the
party aswell but something should have
  been different :

the sleeping halls were too fu..ing
cold. the compo did fuck up.
but i think we should blame the amiga
and pc organizers for a lot of shit.
first they didn't even bother to recog
  nize the c64. a few examples :
the camelot crew wasn't supplied with
  organizer-shirts. the prizes were way
too small. and the time given for show
ing the demos was too limited. some
  groups even got disqualified because
  of this.
except for this it was a cool party!

ok mad back to you! you were so lucky
to get the opportunity to stay at my
house for a few days. you even cele-
brated new years eve at my place.
what was that like? did you experience
  something different compared to an
  english new years eve?
and what about the stay at my place?

! the danish new year is much more of a
  celebration than the english one.
one really strange feature was adding
candy to vodka (in particular turkish
  pepper and fishermans friend...) these
tasted disgusting!!! all the danes at
biz kid's house were drinking large
  amounts (and enjoying it!?! (weird!))
later, the firework show was cool. the
illegal bangers were so bloody loud!!!
(probably why they are illegal!) the
english don't have fireworks on new
years eve, and usually just go to the
pub (boring really, compared to the
danish way of celebration.) the food
was excellent, and even though i had
no idea what was being said, we all
  had a good night....

? yeah that really was a good night!!
i got one hell of a surprise because
both of my english guest (mad and be-
  trayer) actually ate the food!!
i believe betrayer had at least 12
pieces of beef - he he!!!
  (he agrees !!)
a lot of funny things happend this
evening. but i have to say that the
  english people drink like sissies..
they really let me down. only tuborg
and white wine was ok!! buuuuuaahh!!

all in all i think that they had some
sort of a shock staying with me. (some
  even say i'm a bit weird - i can't
  figure out why!!)

except for the new years eve how did
you find your stay in denmark/v.nebel?
please tell us a bit of your discover-
  ies?

! denmark is a cool place, the weather
is very much like england (rain and
snow), but it was so expensive!!!!!!!
one mars bar here costs about 6 dkk,
(three times the cost of back in
  england... aaarrrrggg!!!), yet the
fireworks here cost about half (or
  even less!) than english ones...

fact: biz kid is weird. (but lovable
  all the same...)

fact2: the women working in mc'donalds
here look quite tasty (pity they are
not on the menu hehehe) the english
  ones look like utter dogs...

  fact3: danish language is incredibly
  hard to pronounce!!! .
                         godt nytar!!!!!

? just one thing to add. a shame you
weren't there to hear them pronouncing
  danish.
ok mad enough about denmark for now.
let's talk about new zealand instead!!

                 not!!!!

no seriously. i usually make this fav-
ourite list of the trapped ones like
you. and i won't skip it now either!

so please fill in your favourites

                  guys won't know this!)

                  herning (24-hour porn)

  food          : chocolate (yum)

danish word   : tak (the only one i
                  know!!!)

                  (double yum)

? i can only think of one thing :

      'swallow my sexy centimetres'

well mike, back to reality. you men-
tioned the high quality releases at
  the x-mas party. unfortunately your
  group was disqualified (shit happens!)
so what is cooking? any new padua re-
  leases on the way?

! after t3 (released january?), another
big demo will follow. i will do a part
for the anti-nazi demo, as well as a
trackmo (all by myself!). my game will
  be finished hopefully before march!

if anyone wants to know why padua was
disqualified then here is why: we
spent 48 hours trying to finish it at
the partyplace, but time ran out. we
do not blame camelot, because it was
the amiga organizers that set the
  inflexible deadlines (dickheads)...

? another proof that amiga and amiga-
  owners suxx!!!

(and you can take that to the bank!!)

talking about the future! do you have
any special future plans. or in other
words : what are your plans for the
future in your private life ?

! get a house, get a girl and get a life
i really need to pass my exams this
time, then i can decide whether or not
to go to university or get a job...
(what jobs!?!) get a driving license,
and rob a bank, (so i can get to the
  party iv next year hehehe)

? ok what can i ask now? oh yes! contax.
you said that you're also a swapper.
i would like to hear some more about
  that.
i myself hadn't heard about you until
you contacted me in (october ??)
but i guess you are a bit more known
by the english scene than the euro-
  scene.
please tell us about your contacts.
stuff like : how many, who, countries
  and so on!

! i'm no megaswapper, i've about 22 good
  contacts...
  unifier/spirit, zyron/antic, walker/
  g*p, biz kid/oxyron (who? hehehe),
  syndrom/crest, rantanplan/spirit,
  cruzer/camelot, jeff/camelot, jvd/
  focus, nightshade/success, betrayer/
  xentrix, kenz/bz, uzzy/entropy, joker/
  ua, case/entropy, primus/mayhem,
  gremlin/entropy, virus/entropy,
  ayatollah/flt, ano/padua, diabolo/
  padua, franky/padua...
  and anyone else i missed.

the countries i swap with are denmark,
  sweden, germany, netherlands and u.k.

i want more contacts, but no lame shit
and i expect the send to work!!!
all my contacts usually write good
letters, and thats fine by me.

  if anyone is desperate enough...

  XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
  XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
  XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
  XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
  XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
  XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

(write "do not bend" on envelope!)

i won't answer anyone who sends lame
games or magazines... i want friendly
  and reliable contacts from anywhere.
  (coders/artists/musicians prefered)

? yeah dudes now you got the chance to
add another english scener to your
  list..

  i myself can recommend him!!

well i'll return to the subject demos
for a while. you said that the quality
of the demos released in herning was
  stunning high. (i agree.)
but what about the demo scene today.

i wrote in skyhigh issue #08 that i
find the reason for releasing so few
demos is lazyness. do you agree with
that or am i totally wrong?

and furthermore what about the future
demo releases, what do you expect?

! lazyness is a big part of it, (padua
especially!) but i find that many demo
crews are only producing demos for the
  competitions (to get money). this
means that the time between parties,
nothing is released, people get bored
of the scene and leave it. if people
leave, the number of demos decrease
  anyway...
for 1994, i expect some serious coding
  breakthroughs... oxyron will no doubt
code a 256 face glenz vector... jeff
of camelot will probably make a 20-
speed player, and joe of antic will
  draw a 3 screen fli-interlace sync
scroller of anna nicole smith (yes!!!)

? one future project is the demo i have
written about for the last 3-4 issues
of this mag. the 'anti-nazi' demo.

you have just joined in and betrayer
of xentrix aswell. (i appreciate that
  a lot - thanx!)
what about this sort of demos. is this
a good way to express an opinion or is
  it just another lame idea?

! i hope it does get some message across
and sceners listen. i think there
should be more co-op demos of this
type (whether it has a message or not)
some nazi's have no reason to be like
that, and are fighting for a 'cause'
  they know nothing about...

? you are absolutely right. especially
some swedish nazi pisses me off.
they've got nothing to do with nazism
at all.they (sweden) were even neutral
during the wars. how come they sudden-
ly got so involved? beats the hell out
  of me!!

well i better stop writing about nazis
for now and save it for the demo.

and remember to be a part of it!!!

ok mad thanx for taking the time to
help me with this interview (i forced
  him - he he!!)
i hope you'll have a good trip home..

i'm looking forward to meeting you
  again sometime !!

please stay as you are but talk a bit
  more - he he!!!!

                                BIZ KID

! well thanks biz, you have been the
perfect host (trying to get your
guests pissed) and you are more than
welcome to stay at my place in the
  wet and windy u.k.!!!!!
also thanks to the other skyhigh staff
(sanne the cook/boozer) and i hope you
both have a happy new year. .
                            (godt nytar)

                                    MAD
