magging around.........by digahole
----------------------------------
guess what comes next.nha,haa,your
nightmare,mag-reviews chappie.this
time i've got sum nice productions
in my hands.they are...

  VANDALISM NEWS (18TH EDITION)
  NEWSPRESS (16TH EDITION)
  MENDIP (07TH EDITION)
  VANDALISM NEWS (19TH EDITION)
  NITRO (18TH EDITION)

well, before the show begins let me
put things straight.this is not da
usual kinda edition,but an overall
opinion,rounded as much as posible
while the details are pointed out,
only if found necessary.

VANDALISM NEWS #18 BY SUCCESS+TRC

hmmm,the first one,vandalism news,
was brought to life,or at least it
is said to be,under da success+trc
label;although,the whole (!) thing
was created by members of shazam ,
and only the editing was mostly by
vengeance/scs+trc.and when you con
sider the fact that there was some
additional editing by shazam dudes
the statement at the beginning of
editorial sayin'it's a success+trc
mag naturally confuses the mind of
the reader.

anyway, what struck me first about
diz magazine was its flowing style
of presenting. as you get into the
outfit,everthing is sooo plain and
so smooth,you feel relaxed.

there hangs an artistic logo at da
top, which is all there is to break
the silence of a screen dominated
by tones of gray. the rest is just
hi-resolution text.

ehm,quite frankly,the text is very
very nice. especially that chapter
named lighterside gives me da rite
mood... great fun!! but some of da
chapters were equally bothering to
read as they had too many war shit
between crossfire vs da rest of da
scene (almost!).

when you think of the chapters -in
general- it hits you in the head..
there are two (!) chapters on some
crap between entropy -the tribune,
to be exact- and vandalism news..
more to come is another chappie on
crossfire's so called lameness and
nastiness.what's left is two chart
chapters,an interview, some jokes,
a do-it-yourself code help,and the
usual news chapter which sums up 2
six chapters if you leave out the
war texts and the editorial.

there is a funny anti-demo against
crossfire at the beginning,but its
not what this scene really needs i
think.following that is a cute and
huge hi-res comic,introduced as an
intro, for it has a little scroller
and an exclusive tune.

the news'n'rumours chapter is not
where you want to look at unless u
are in an elite group or an aussie
one.oh,by the way,you only get one
tune throughout the whole thing.it
becomes quite annoying when you do
decide to read the mag;otherwise,i
wouldn't care,coz it's a nice cut.

all in all, vandalism news carries
its main editor's quality.there is
something missing to make it coool
enough,but i wouldn't mind spread-
ing this nice mag;especially when
you have all those crap mags.

NEWSPRESS #16 BY (RIP)REBELS
                                       z
unfortunately, this was the last of zzzz
neotec's mag. well,he is likely to
continue his career as an editor
within atlantis under the immortal
flash label.good luck.

the concept of the outfit was not
something so sh0cking at all with
a nice logo at the top and chapter
names below,which altogether looks
relaxing in the gray screen.

there were only 13 chapters with 8
of them consisting of usual stuff,
such as the news,charts,etc. there
also was a cover competition.

particle words was an info chapter
about computer graphics.kinda nice
for the artists, but absolutely us o
the one for me.

after reading newspress, my thesis
on being able to find sum antitext
about crossfire in every mag seems
to prove true once more.

the text quality was quite good,as
i'd expected from neotec. he cares
about grammer and design on texts.
the words were chosen to fit.

to summarize, newspress and rebels
are gone now.and whatever is said
in here is obviously nonsense.

MENDIP #7 BY ARCOSS

hmmmm,interesting intro;presenting
the magazine as the sun after the
snow.the graphix throughout mendip
are simple but nice, unlike da slow
loader,which drives readers crazy.
especially when it has to load the
main menu each time.

along the traditional chapters are
lotsa stuff to read.girls u see is
a different one,talkin about girls
in the commodore scene.

bombs attack is like a terrorists'
camp.teaches you every kinda bomb.
how to make one,how to use, etc.but
you probably won't be able to find
any of the substances it asks.

one of the most interesting things
in the mag is the chapter named cd
player.plays a few nice tunes that
are presented in a new design.

well,i have to admit the quality'o
texts did us osatisfy me;although,
bizarre says he likes it (writtten
in vandalism #19,i guess).grammer
mistakes were too much to ignore..

ermm, the outfit looks kind of like
splash.a logo at the top,and names
of the chapters (sprites) at the
below are supported by an animated
candela pic on the left hand side
of the screen.so...

VANDALISM NEWS #19 BY ONSLAUGHT

while we were preparing this issue
the speedy vandalism! editors have
released another issue, so why us o
review both.

there is no need to mention outfit
as we did it in lines above.extras
are the new graphics and tunes.but
i didn't like da logo and the blue
background.

although there's less text,quality
is much more improved. ah, bizzare
has joined them as a c0-editor:)

the biggest change is that the mag
is no more released under success+
the ruling company label.vengeance
has taken his mag with him to the
new group,onslaught,he founded sum
time ago with jazzcat/legend.

da only chapter which i find worth
additional mentioning is the board
review done by vengeance. it was a
nice one.ok,here it goes...

text quality...................%78
design.........................%60
overall........................%69

NITRO #18 BY EXCESS

excesss dudes seem to do well with
coming up with a new mainmenu each
issue.this time,it was much better
than the horrible previous one.but
it gets on your nerves to wait for
the logos to flash along with tune
beat.especially after a while.

before everything,i gotta say that
the demo review was a disaster !!!
not that cat/excess is a badeditor
but he should not have even tried,
in the first place.

smileys and cracks in the net were
the chapters i liked the most.erm,
interview with the (vampire!) duke
of ex-regina seemed nice and long,
too.the worst was probably the one
where otha guys send their text to
be published. this one was about a
crap about the plus4 scene.as it
was not boring enough , there were
a dozen many unfamiliar scener and
group names which makes the reader
die of boredom.

you always get enough addies from
nitro which once more proves that
a good voteshit spreader is a must
for the mag releasing groups (hi,
robin)...

text quality...................78%
design.........................82%
overall........................81%

ooh,boy.finished. now get the hell
outta here and play some football.
