"DEMO REVIEWS" part 4 by tch/brutal. ---------------------------------------- yep, yep, yep! here is the last chapter with demo reviews for this issue! after writing part 3, i thought i had most of them, but after that i recieved some hot demos and so i'm here to bring you the reviews of... TOTAL ECLIPSE by THE DEPREDATORS SMOKE RINGS by VISION STUPIDITY by WRATH DESIGNS DO YOU REMEMBER by OFFENCE okay,i will start with... ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- TOTAL ECLIPSE (HIP HOP 5) DEPREDATORS ---------------------------------------- this demo contains some parts which were made for 'hip hop 5' which was never released, and still are worth showing. here follow the reviews for each part. ---------------------------------------- intro:before starting there's an info screen which gives some facts for the demo... the tune here is old but cool. always press c= to go to the next part! a cool music starts to play,an upscroller with a cool 2x1 charset starts moving up,with breaks now and then, giving you credits, greets and memberstatus... ---------------------------------------- part1:nice tune with a scroll in a cool charset. on top of the screen moves a box with in it pieces of a cool hires logo... this is called hires-square-line- crunching and looks rather cool, except for the sinus in which the box moves... ---------------------------------------- part2:a fucking cool, satiric, picture of SYLVESTER STALONE is shown with a really kicking tune!! on top of the screen appears a,too slow x-ax turning,1x1 scroller... after some time hiresoverlay-plots (in sprites?) move over the piccy in cool circle sinus. ---------------------------------------- part3:a tv is shown with underneath it 8 tables for controlling the cool plotter yet to come... down on the screen is a small 1x1 scroll with the usual bla! on the tv-screen is bouncing an animated world-sprite... the routine is said to use dot- splits,so it is possible to have hires SINGLE color plots on a MULTI color hires picture... it's also said there're no sprites used except for the world-sprite, but if you turn all sprites OFF, the tv-sides are gonne! hmm... cool tune though and it also looks nice!! (with sprites ON,that is!) ---------------------------------------- part4:a great tune starts the show,a little scroller enters the screen. now a big box is moving over the screen with in it an,ALSO moving, hires picture. again no sprites are used, but why goes the box white if you put #$01 at $d026? ---------------------------------------- part5:256 realtimehires plots! under this a 1x1 scroll and totaly down a cool 'total eclipse' logo built out of a focus charset. this music simply rules!! ---------------------------------------- part6:a 2-screen wide swinging hires logo/picture is filling the entire screen... over this moves a 2x1 scroller... the music is really nice and fits great to the part... ---------------------------------------- part7:a cool tune plays with a not so nice logo down on the screen! a spritescroll bounces onto the screen. now 92 dots showing DDT 92 move in pre-calculated sinusses. this part is the last one... ---------------------------------------- as you could have read in some parts, there were sprites used when it was said there weren't used any... i think people have the right to know how it's really done, just like the 'singlecolour scroll over multicolour hires picture' by CREST,which was said to use no sprites, but used sprites for sure!! anyway,i don't think it matters how good it's coded, but how cool it looks, that's what counts... for instance:make rasterbars in $d020 by using sideborder-sprites is nice coding, but really stupid!! okay,i will now write the final ratings for this demo... ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- TOTAL ECLIPSE by DEPREDATORS ---------------------------------------- CODING performed by COUNT/DEPREDATORS is rated 7.5 out 10 ---------------------------------------- GRAPHICS painted by MEGABYTE/CREST (ex-ddt) is rated 8.5 out 10 ---------------------------------------- MUSICS composed by PANORAMA INC,JCH,DRAX,V.VOOLS,BAPALANDER and GRIFF is rated 8.5 out 10 ---------------------------------------- DESIGN by THE DEPREDATORS is rated 8.5 out 10 ---------------------------------------- the OVERALL is rated 8.3 out 10 ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- SMOKE RINGS by VISION ---------------------------------------- this is yet the second demo in a short time period... it contains 5 parts which look like... ---------------------------------------- intro:a music starts playing... some text flashes on some moving stars... a title-picture is shown and more text comes... ---------------------------------------- part1:a great picture with over it a 'vsn' sprite logo and "smokerings" sprite under it moving in some weird ways with rastercolours behind in the sprites... in the downborder is an unexpanded scroller with 4 colours in it! you can control the scroll with a joystick in port 2! if you press fire, the computer'll count 'colourwaves'. this looks really cool, though some might look a bit hacky! ---------------------------------------- part2:a spritescroller with an original, but great, charset starts the show. then 128 3x2 bobs enter the screen in a turbo sinus. (i wonder why it are boxes? don't have to ORA eh!?) ---------------------------------------- part3:a cool 'vision' logo is on the screen with a mega dypp scroller on top of the screen. over this goes a 16 spritemultiplexer. the scroll will also contain some colours for each word... there's a little bug, left between the logo and the dypp. the tune is nice... ---------------------------------------- part4:very nice 'Uision' logo on top with 2 rasterlines underneath... between these lines appears a sideborder snurkel-scroller with animated star-sprites behind it. there's a little bug in the right sideborder... in the upperborder also move some star dots from left to right. again a nice tune... ---------------------------------------- part5:the end part... this only contains a big ball dycp scroller with some text... the music fits the part perfectly. ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- SMOKE RINGS by VISION ---------------------------------------- CODING performed by ICON and HOUBBA is rated 8 out 10 ---------------------------------------- GRAPHICS painted by ICON,HOUBBA and SKYWIZE is rated 7.5 out 10 ---------------------------------------- MUSICS composed by PAGE,NORDIC BEAT and KRISTIAN ROESTOEN is rated 7 out 10 ---------------------------------------- DESIGN by VISION is rated 7.5 out 10 ---------------------------------------- the OVERALL is rated 7.5 out 10 ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- DO YOU REMEMBER by OFFENCE ---------------------------------------- this demo contains only 1 part and is ment to be an introduction to the demo offence was going to release on the third of februari. well,i haven't seen this demo yet,but here i am to give you a review of this small announcement-demo as it is surtenly worth to be reviewed!! ---------------------------------------- it first gives some credits... now a great (digi) music is playing and on the screen is a big OFFENCE logo with on top of it a 'remember' logo and a moving 'do you' logo. over the offence logo will come some small logos of SHAPE,BEYOND FORCE, BONZAI which were never used (?)... after you've seen all logos there will come a great 'offence'logo, which looks as it is fli but it's hires!,with a great singlecolour logo under it. the music gets spooky, but after that it get's normal again... ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- DO YOU REMEMBER by OFFENCE ---------------------------------------- CODING performed by YUP is rated 3.5 out 10 ---------------------------------------- GRAPHICS painted by PAL (ROOSTER) is rated 9.5 out 10 ---------------------------------------- MUSIC composed by GEIR TJELTA is rated 9.5 out 10 ---------------------------------------- DESIGN by OFFENCE is rated 9.5 out 10 ---------------------------------------- the OVERALL is rated 8 out 10 ---------------------------------------- this demo was just made to show you the .graphix and let you enjoy the music. i'm really looking forward to see the real demo! ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- STUPIDITY by WRATH DESIGNS ---------------------------------------- intro:a wrath logo appears onto the screen with under it a 2x2 scroll and in the downborder "wrath"... later "designs" in sprites move over the screen and in sideborder. the music is nice... ---------------------------------------- part1:60 balls dycp also with "wrath designs" dy4pping (the cursors are divided into two and dycp). this all is swinging... under this are 2 rasterlines with a 1x1 scroll between them. totaly down is a hires "wrath" logo with "designs" sprites on it. ---------------------------------------- part2:a big hires picture of a barbarian is on the screen with on top of it a 32 sprites multiplexer. in the downborder is a moving 1x1 scroller. the strange music suits the part! ---------------------------------------- part3:a very nice "beach"-picture fills most of the screen.
