         INTERVIEW

 this month we did a very cool
    and long interview with

        MARKUS FUNK/
     MASTERS DESIGN GROUP

sorry for the spelling mistakes
in the interview,it was held in
 german.it took me nearly two
 hours to finish the interview
(i'm afraid of our phone-bill!)

MF stands for markus funk/mdg
JD stands for jack daniels/atg

JD - hi markus,tell our readers
     something about your
     person.
MF - hello,as already said my
     name is markus funk and i
     am a member of the masters
     design group.i'm 19 years
     old,1.83m tall,my weight's
     not important,i've got
     blue eyes and dark blond
     hair.
JD - how can people recognize
     you,in venlo for example ?
MF - i'm always wearing black
     cowboy shoes.
JD - do you still go to school?
MF - no,i'm already working as
     a technical drawer.
JD - when did you start this
     job and when have you
     finished your apprentice-
     ship ?
MF - i started about 2 years
     ago and i still have to go
     for nearly 1 year.
JD - what are you doing in your
     spare-time,except hanging
     infront of your computer ?
MF - i like to go to the DISCO,
     until they close the doors
     i also like everything
     that has to do with music
     and graphics (not only
     computers).watching good
     films is also cool.
JD - have you got a girlie ???
MF - no.
JD - what kind of music do you
     prefer ?
MF - i listen to nearly all
     kinds of music.
JD - what do your parents think
     about your computer
     activities ?
MF - puh,that's very different.
     ofcourse they are happy
     when i get some orders
     from sofware-firms,so that
     i can earn some money.but
     they can't understand the
     sense of demos or the
     venlo-meetings.they are
     also glad when they see
     some nice graphics from me
JD - what impressed you in the
     last month,in general and
     in the computer scene ?
MF - in general :
     that GORBATSCHOW wants to
     install the open market in
     the soviet union.
     in the scene :
     i'm a bit disappointed of
     the scene..nothing special
     happened in the last weeks
     it was really boring,the
     only cool thing was the
     new CORRUPTIOM outfit.
     congratulations,you did a
     great job.
JD - thanks.are you afraid of
     anything or anyone ?
MF - normally not,but in the
     moment i am a bit afraid
     of SADDAM HUSSEIN.i am
     scared that he does some-
     thing before using his
     brain and a lot of people
     die in the persian gulf.
JD - are you interested in
     politics ?
MF - i think it's not very
     interesting.
JD - which three things would
     you take with you onto a
     lonely island ?
MF - my hifi-center,my computer
     and a lovely girl.
JD - if you could be a person
     of your choice for just
     one day,who would it be ?
MF - GOETZ GEORGE because i
     like this actor,or JAMES
     DEAN if he still would be
     alive.
JD - let's get busy with some
     questions about computers.
     when and how did you enter
     the scene ?
MF - i got my c-64 in 1984 and
     entered the scene in the
     same year.in my holidays
     in 1984 i met some
     crackers and some weeks
     later they have sent me a
     disc where a file from
     DIGITAL MARKETING was on
     it.they were looking for
     coders and so on,so i sent
     them some lame musics from
     me and so i entered the
     scene.the guys of digital
     marketing are still good
     friends of mine,we often
     work together.
JD - in which groups have you
     been ?
MF - MAGIC SOFT,CRYPT,MAGNETIX,
     GIANT and finally MDG,
     where i'm still in.but i
     left mdg for about 28
     hours,because i thought
     they were just waiting for
     a fault of me to kick me.
     in mdg there's only one
     rule:when you do a demo
     you are not allowed to use
     musics which were not made
     by mdg or composed for us.
     i thought in the beginning
     that it's not normal that
     they don't tell you what
     to do and when,but it was
     just a misunderstanding.
     one day later,we had a
     meeting and then every-
     thing was cleared.
JD - your jobs in mdg ?
MF - i'm a MUSICAN,GRAPHICIAN
     and something like a PR-
     MANAGER.i have to look
     for new members and to
     test if they are qualified
     to join or not.i also do
     some legal swapping to see
     what the other groups are
     doing.
JD - no mdg demos anymore ?
MF - oliver stiller and alex
     kirsch don't produce demos
     anymore.but every new
     member should do a new
     demo and we will get two
     new members soon and so
     you don't have to live
     without our demos.maybe
     you will see a music and
     graphic demo from me this
     time in venlo.
JD - tell us something more
     about the masters design
     group !
MF - mainly we produce games
     and sometimes also tools.
     (like the enc-paint)we
     want to produce games
     where you have to use your
     brain and not htose silly
     shoot'em up games.we are 3
     members in mdg :
     OLIVER STILLER
     ALEXANDER KIRSCH and
     MARKUS FUNK of course.but
     we also have some guys who
     work sometimes for us like
     MARKUS SCHNEIDER or TLR-
     DESIGN of density.in the
     near future we will get 2
     new qualified coders.look
     out.
JD - who's your favourite
     musican and graphician ?
MF - from the commercials it's
     the legendary ROB HUBBARD.
     in the scene there are
     several good ones like
     MARKUS SCHNEIDER or
     JEROEN TEL.the best
     graphician would normally
     be BOB STEVENSON if he
     would be cool on the amiga
     but he isn't !!! in my
     opinion a painter has to
     be good on all machines !
     i think no one will ever
     beat the old PEGASUS.
JD - for which games did you do
     the sound or the graphics?
MF - i did the title picture
     for our game take'em in 5
     hours.but in the future
     you will see more from me,
     as for example the game
     CYBERBLOCKS (i do 5
     pictures and gotcha/crazy
     does so,too.)this game
     will be released in the
     end of 1990.i also did the
     graphics for VINCENT,but
     then i had an accident and
     had to go to hospital and
     as i returned home GOTCHA
     had already done the
     graphics,although i had
     already finished them.HEY
     GOTCHA try to get other
     contracts and groups to
     work for.i hate it when
     someone steals my orders.
     i also want to earn my
     money.
     i will also do the graphic
     for the games of our new
     members.then i will paint
     and compose the music for
     an amiga jump+run game and
     for two more space-games
     and one strategy game on
     the 64.i also got asked
     to do a picture for the
     20th issue of SEX'N'CRIME.
JD - why not for us,hehe.which
     demo-groups do you like ?
MF - ORIGO are just cheaters,
     BEYOND FORCE and FLASH INC
     are really cool.if mdg
     would not exist i would
     try to join one of these 2
JD - who are your best friends
     in the scene ?
MF - rudi stember,oliver
     stiller/mdg,rick/fresh,
     jack daniels+3dk/atg and
     markus widderstein of
     digital marketing.
JD - what do you think of the
     amiga ?
MF - i own one,but i think it's
     used in the totally wrong
     way.it's the perfect music
     and graphic computer.
JD - what do you think when
     someone cracks a game
     where you did for example
     the graphics ?
MF - if the game is already on
     the market,then it's the
     crackers job to do it.but
     i get mad when i see those
     lamers who release a
     preview of a game and
     steal the programmers the
     chance to earn money with
     it.for example the preview
     of cyberblocks which was
     released by class,there
     was no music in it and
     just one picture drawn by
     bob stevenson.
JD - your future plans with mdg
MF - i want to improve my
     graphics,i'm a guy who
     really wants to improve
     and improve everytime.we
     want to do much games with
     new ideas and effects.my
     personal wish is to do the
     graphics for a cool advem-
     ture.
JD - and your private wishes ??
MF - i want to change my
     profession,i'd like to
     work in a music-shop but
     there the problem is,that
     you don't earn much money.
     my dream would be to do
     graphic animations for the
     tv.i want to find a real
     partner for me and i want
     to build up a small family
     peace on earth would also
     be great without all this
     atom,chemical & bioloical
     weapons.and i want to
     reach a good living
     standart.
JD - some last words to our
     readers ?
MF - 1) ...hey frank ewald if
     you think you still belong
     to us then call us.
     2)i hate those crackers
     who release previews.
     3)..hey demo-coders try to
     be original and not always
     a new record in dycps or
     multiplexers !!!
     4)i hope that CORRUPTION
     will always survive.it is
     a great mag.and you
     learned from your faults !
