ALPHA FLIGHT have done very well in ser-
ving their duties for the machine since
their comeback some years back. Older
members have been replaced by hungrier
and fresher blood and they have been a
topnotch choice for a steady supply of
votesheets. Over the past few weeks,
things have changed dramatically and
quickly for the group in the public eye.
People have officially criticized the
group so roughly that the seed that
started the debate months ago has led
to a minor chaos on the boards.

The debate that has been triggered is
delicate and questions the very core of
the firstreleasingsystem we have creat-
ed over the years. ALPHA FLIGHT have
made it a policy to release 1OO%-vers-
ions of games, something that may sound
rather obvious to most of us. MARC, up
to only recently leader of ALPHA FLIGHT,
took great pride in seeking bugs in
other groups releases - no matter how
small. The concept became silly as after
every game release, one could most de-
finately expect an ALPHA FLIGHT-version
not long after. Not only did many of the
people involved insulted, but it questi-
oned if we really bothered about a 1OO%-
version that did not feature a minor
flicker in the endsequence. A game is
playable when it's playable, and as an

editor I can honestly say I don't give
a shining fuck about small, small, small
bugs. We created the rules. Now we have
to live by them, or change them.

ALPHA FLIGHT made rather clear at sev-
eral points that they disliked F4CG. In
february this year, nobody from F4CG
frequented the American boards but let
other people run their software state-
side. In the meantime, the group con-
tinued their focus on the Interet. As
F4CG released several titles, ALPHA
FLIGHT did their job in refixing titles
as well as criticizing the releases from
the 8-bit cosa nostra in public. Word
had it ALPHA FLIGHT were also upset by

the fact that one of their bigger pro-
files and crackers SKINHEAD had betrayed
them and joined F4CG. At the same time
ALPHA FLIGHT refixed DEADLY MESSENGER
from TRC*SCS. As F4CG started to freq-
uent the boards on a daily basis again
conversations concerning the two groups
and the "refixing"-concept tightened.
Both MARC and IGNORANCE became very
aggressive in their approach and made
very clear where they stood. The early
discussions taking place were the seed
to the public fall only days ago.

ALPHA FLIGHT continued to release their
refixes. Voices in the distant started
to whisper that the group lacked a stock
of their own. The fact that MEGAMOLECULE
was released in between - a publicdomain
game that most groups had been sitting
on for ages but refused to release -
strengthened the whispers, even though
the lack of a stock of games is not
entierly true. Many of the groups were
clearly insulted by the 1OO%-remakes of
their own versions and the firstrelease-
market was beginning to show signs of
boredom. As MAGNAMEDIA released MYSTERY,
coded by SNEAPER/F4CG, ALPHA FLIGHT fir-
streleased it by all rules we know. MYS-

TERY came to turn things around slightly
as JAZZCAT, leader of ONSLAUGHT,quickly
commented the fact that there was a bug
in the ALPHA FLIGHT release. MARC and
IGNORANCE denied any possiblity of a bug
but it wasn't long until a fakegroup ap-
peared out of nowhere called URINE to
firstrelease a 1OO%-version of the game.
The concept was a punch in the face for
ALPHA FLIGHT who had been annoying sev-
eral groups with the same treatment! And
worst of all, MARC continued to deny the
fact of a bug (music slowing down in the
high-score) while more and more people
teamed up on the boards to confirm the
bug in the ALPHA FLIGHT version! Be it
a bug or not, PROPAGANDA will not judge,
but leave it up to talented fixers and
observant players.

MYSTERY must be considered one of the
more interesting releases over the past
2 years. Not because of the game itself,

but for the mere storm it provided. Now
it was not a thing between just F4CG and
AFL (and I wonder if it ever really was)
but between the entire scene. Are the
firstreleasingrules correct? Are AFL
the bad guys? Are URINE the bad guys?
Was there really a bug in MYSTERY, and
if so who really cares? I'd say URINE
was only sweet revenge with cream on top
to slap ALPHA FLIGHT in the face. And a
wake-up call that led to more than 3O
days of discussions, emotions and angles
of the market we spend hours and hours
with. Long live the scene!

Don't think the storm ended with URINE'S
release of MYSTERY, oh no! ALPHA FLIGHT

were determined to locate the bad guys
behind the hideous plan URINE. They were
convinced ONSLAUGHT were behind it, and
would do anything to prove it. Since ON-
SLAUGHT refused to admit any of their
deeds, ALPHA FLIGHT decided to upload
a buffer from ONSLAUGHT'S private sub
THE DEAD ZONE. The buffer was fairly
uninteresting but very well proved that
members from ONSLAUGHT were part of
URINE. A secret about as exciting as
my socks after a day at work.
ONSLAUGHT powered up and battled
back by uploading a buffer from ALPHA
FLIGHT'S private sub on a German board.
A great show to watch for us observers,
I do say!

Apart from the great happenings on the
boards, ALPHA FLIGHT have recruited one
of the first Swedish illegal talents to
be seen in the public for many years.
LYNCHBIT has been working in the shad-
ows for only a few years and has been
a steady caller to WARE'S AQUARIUM in
between become one of the better NTSC-
fixers in the modern scene. He has al-
ready performed some rather good fixes
for the group. Unfortunately, the refix
of LAXITY'S version of MAGICAL FORMULA
didn't quite go through, but much speaks
of a promising future. His first comment
was not only brave, but was cocky enough
to insult a cracker or two out there.

Just reported from the American boards
it is now confirmed from second leader
STYX that MARC is leaving the ALPHA
FLIGHT organization for HITMEN. It has
been known long to PROPAGANDA that MARC
was planning to join with HITMEN on a
PLAYSTATION-basis but according to STYX
the membership should be in full effect.
STYX has been the public voice for ALPHA
FLIGHT the past few weeks since MARC
more or less has avoided the American
boards since several people turned their
back towards the group's policy about
refixing. It is obvious that ALPHA
FLIGHT have been clearly bothered about
the entire affair. Now that MARC has

left the organization, it leaves room
for speculation about the future of
ALPHA FLIGHT. Will they continue under
the leadership of STYX? Will MAX return
as many people claim he will, when
exams are over?

If you are not one of the lucky with
an account on the Swedish ALPHA FLIGHT
board ANTIDOTE, our advise is you call
in. A phreaker called NED with a past
in ACCEPT (number one rereleasing-group
some year back/-37 in the annual charts)
, now in ALPHA FLIGHT speaking his
piece of mind. Rags are at their peak
as NED claims "NEWSCOPY'S FATHER DIED
SO THAT MUMMY CAN BUY CARDS FOR THE
INSURANCE-MONEY". Apart from wonderful
arguments and intelligent rags, ANTIDOTE
really is a splendid board that deserves
a call every once in a while. It brings
on the spirit (mainly due to a hungry
sysop) of the old days when South of

Sweden carried several juicy boards.

Boardwise, ALPHA FLIGHT are still un-
represented in the states. EDGE OF MID-
NIGHT seems to be struggling with a
nevercomingbackoonline-curse - even
though it will -, while HOLIDAY INN
CAMBODIA is down for good. Shame and
spits to POL POT for being a total
whimp and dropping out on the 64.

While many other groups are concentra-
ting on the debate CHROMANCE are still
suffering from the tragedy and loss as
JAZZY D passed away in an accident
earlier this year. Focus seems to be
done on recruitments right now, while
MR.WAX is a very frequent visitor to-
gether with the alwayscomingback-app-
earingoutofnowehere-fellow ROUGH. Both
provide their standard intelligent con-
tributions to the discussions and should
be rewarded for their loyalty to keep
old gold CHROMANCE up and running.

BINJINX was much talked about when he
returned to the scene some year back.
He had a past in legendary EAGLESOFT and
quickly came into the MOTIV8-organizat-
ion. As MOTIV8 continued their demise,
both from the boards and the releasing-
schedules, BINJINX headed for CHROMANCE.
According to MR.WAX, he will be a tool-
coder as well as hacker.

We may very well be seeing a new gen-
eration of Swedish illegal sceners, and
that is welcome keeping in mind that

Swedish older labels like TRIAD, FAIR-
LIGHT and ACTIVE are facing an alltime
low in produtivity. Not only LYNCHBIT
and VIOLATOR from ALPHA FLIGHT are new
to the international market. STASH,
earlier member of ACTIVE is now calling
out very frequently as well as swapping
for CHROMANCE. The posse in Budapest
must be happy as activity is not to
be mistaken.

Continuing the efforts of boosting
Swedish activity, retired sysop JOYRIDE
has now returned to the scene. Many
people estimated that when HIGHWAY was
finally taken offline, we'd never see
neither the sysop or the board again.

Partly, they were right. JOYRIDE is
back, but with a new board. Since TAPER
is running ANTIDOTE on the old HIGHWAY-
equipment, JOYRIDE borrowed another sys-
tem from TAO of TRIAD. TAO earlier ran
VIRTUAL LIGHT for a short period of time
for TRIAD. VIRTUAL LIGHT is in other
words up again and runs for CHROMANCE
as a European headquarter.

There may be plans for increased legal
activities in CHROMANCE. Not only did
the to musicians SPHERE and CUBEHEAD
join, but none of the leadoing members
rule out the possibility of a magazine
in the future. CUBEHEAD is also part of
the musicgroup OXSID PLANETARY, headed

by ZYRON of F4CG.

CHROMANCE recently lost their main-
headquarter as the Canadian located
FINAL GENOCIDE went offline. The
support-headquarter BASSPLANET quickly
picked up pace and most probably func-
tions as headquarter for the group
right now, even though they share it
with XENON. In the meantime, much liked
and talented fixer FUNGUS joined in and
made a remarkable stunt fixing MAGICAL
FORMULA for LAXITY recently. NATAS also
came along in the recruitment - both
have a past in CARCASS.

F4CG had one of their slower periods
ever during the fall of 1996 and began
picking up pace as discussions were
heating up on the American boards. The
group today arranges all Internal meet-
ings and affairs over the Itnernet, but
they also made the mistake to believe
they would not need to be part of the
board-scene. In March, they realized how
wrong they were and returned to their
roots - to the American boards. At the
same time, releases finally started to
work it's way out of the family.

Not new to any of the people on the
scene, but fairly new in F4CG, SKINHEAD
finally came along from ALPHA FLIGHT
leaving an upset group behind. As F4CG
started making progress towards the
boards the first few releases came a-
long. Some of them were trembling. MER-
CHANT was firstreleased and later on
refixed by ALPHA FLIGHT (one of the
games that started the debate between
the two). DEADLY MESSENGER never even
got to the boards fast enough and the
group were so fast to spread the origin-
al by mail that TRC*SCS rightfully sna-
tched the release in front of their
eyes. After the trembling attempts,

things stablized at the shelter of the
8-bit cosa nostra. By end of April,
early May, the real releases were fin-
ally appearing again - the way they used
to. KNOORKIE THE PIG from TIMSOFT was
probably one of the most appealing gam-
es to appear this season, with clear
ties to the classic DIZZY-genre. It has
been good to see the invasion of the
family as MAJA, WALKER, NEWSCOPY, SOLAR,
SIXX and SKINHEAD all were on the state-
side again - as well as the wares.

Having F4CG back in the states on a dai-
ly basis has also led to speculations
about the coming of a headquarter both
in Europe and in the states. FORTRESS

OF DOOM, a board with roots in ATLANTIS
was mentioned among other names in the
rumours, but F4CG will be announcing
the system during the middle of the
summer, on both sides of the ocean.
Also there are plans to set up a server
in Stockholm during the fall, so that
an FTP can finally be installed. The
idea is not have huge archives like the
ones around today, but with only 3-4
directories, like some of the smaller
boards.

ZYRON has over the season been one of
the most active musicians in the field
and has released two appreciated coll-
ections of work. He also experienced

his first real commercial success as
he won the musiccompetition at X97. In
the creative sector, SLIVER came along
from TRIAD to help out with art. This
means there are actually 3 slideshows
coming out from the 8-bit cosa nostra
during this year ; SCOPE'S, STASI'S
and SLIVER'S. TOTAL CHAOS who has admir-
ed his PC for a while is back coding on
the machine again. With F4CG turning
15 years old in 1998, there are also
some surprises planned.

F4CG was also subject of lies, myths
and rumours, statements that will be
sorted out quickly to avoid any con-
fusion in the future: SKINHEAD was never

in jail during his absense. His phone
was just offline. DERBYSHIRE RAM did le-
ave the group shortly, before the group
returned to the American boards. He was
hauled back in and is happy with it.
SIXX lost his phone for the 5 time, due
to an old feud with the Swedish telecom.
He will be back, as always. SOLAR is
active on the C64, but only works with
the group on Internal affairs over the
Internet. In the meantime, he works
with F4CG PC while NEWSCOPY and WALKER
manage most affairs on the 64.

ANTITRACK was removed from active status
to the inactive since he has not been
doing anything with his 64 for far too

long. He considers the scene a dump and
thinks there are no resources anymore.
At PROPAGANDA we think he has the corr-
ect attitude to destroy the entire mark-
et as we - the scene - are the resource.
INTRUDER followed him to the inactive
status, which means only DERBYSHIRE RAM
is active from the remains of AVANTGAR-
DE. Several people have been talking
about a comeback of AVANTGARDE, but
keeping in mind that DEFF is both a dad
and a hardworking fellow, he will re-
main in the F4CG-family.

CHASH and ARISTO left the entire F4CG-
organization behind.

It was long ago PROPAGANDA was so im-
pressed but after what appeared to be
a rather slow period in the ONSLAUGHT-
stable they have completely knocked the
scene over once again! More members than
ever are seen on the American boards and
even VENGEANCE, who was lost for so long
has been spotted on several systems
quite frequently. Still, it is JAZZCAT
who is clearly managing the organization
now. Steadily followed by a whole of set
of people, surprisingly enough old fart
STING is one of them. ONSLAUGHT-related

magazine DOMINATION was released for the
8th time and kept everything it promised
while we are still kept in waiting for a
new issue of VANDALISM. With several
members calling out and a smaller clean-
up in the clan, organization seems to
be smoother than ever - much thanks to
JAZZCAT supplies in the hackingsphere.

Many good releases found their way out
from ONSLAUGHT, CANNON CRAZE probably
the most impressive ones gameswise, but
also due to a splendid fix by JOLZ.
CANNON CRAZE was finished 2 years ago
along with MAGICAL FORMULA, but sales
have been slow to MAGNA MEDIA recently.

LYNCHBIT/WOW/ROLE released his own fix
of CANNON CRAZE just after ONSLAUGHT but
PROPAGANDA is still uncertain why.

Debated releases have been the hype of
the season, and with MYSTERY in mind
came GHOSTTOWN, a 1OO%-fix from ONSLA-
UGHT. MARC and ALPHA FLIGHT were quick
as usual to the bugseeking-rescue and
claimed the game was bugging. As COUNT
ZERO later on confirmed the game was
complete, MARC excused his comment and
claimed his joystick had messed up the
game.

THE DEAD ZONE has rightfully taken over
the crown from DOWN BY LAW as the world
headquarter of the group. THE DEAD ZONE
has boosted in popularity the past few
months and since all hope for the old
board with roots in TALENT were gone,
MORRISSEY, sysop, was removed from the
group. GALLAND was also to be removed
from the group due to causing arguments
and disruption but he left on his own
before actions could be taken.

While members like NEBULA are put to

the inactve list (ed.great musician!)
members like STING should belong on the
VERY ACTIVE-list. Not only is he admi-
rable for his presense just about every-
where on the American boards, but after
having been away for so many years, one
would expect a rather hazy comeback. Not
a chance in this case, as it appears!
Many of the cracks from the ONSLAUGHT-
organization are also done by him.
