yepp, it's true! i (TCHAD) will edit my
first chapter in jamaica!

the topic i will discuss here is whether
it's right or wrong to have a national
army. you may be one of those who
consider a national army as compulsory
stuff but i'll try to make you recon-
sider this thing.

everywhere, you talk about friendship
and such, but in real life this dialogue
is not so widespread. this topic got
very actual for me some months ago when
one of my class-mates did something that
few dares to do. the materialistic act
was to destroy the nose-part of a
swedish attack-plane called VIGGEN. the
damage costed the swedish taxpayers
about 200000 sek ($25000). the ones who
did it, my class-mate and one person
more, had the argument that they had
turned something bad into something good
a killing-machine into a bunch of scrap.

a huge debate followed over most of the
country. until the trial, i didn't speak
to my class-mate, because he was held in
jail and was not allowed to communicate
with anyone. on the day of the trial,
the courthouse was packed with people.
i'd bet that you could fill the
courtroom at least ten times.

after at least seven or eight hours, he
was sentenced to 14 months in jail plus
a huge damages-pay. a few weeks later,
he returned to school and we discussed
this a lot. among other things, he told
me some interesting facts like :

- the swedish army costs 40 BILLION SEK
each year. (that may sound little but
it's actually approximately 6.5% of
the national budget, and it would be
enough to support many many jobs,
schools or environmental projects.)

- many of the weapons used in bosnia is
in fact swedish weapons, as before the
war, yugoslavia was sweden's third
biggest weapon exporting country.
therefore, the argument that our
weapons don't make any harm is wrong.

- the army (in this case the swedish
army) seems to be the only organisa-
tion that gets money from the state to
train people to break the law by
killing other people. by that, he
pointed out the great double standard
of morality that is in sweden (and
other countries). the only reason why
sweden keeps its army is a false
threat that thos in power have created
just to make sure that they won't lose
their jobs. for instance the submarin-
es that noone has ever seen. the only
indication of them was a russian crap-
submarine that grounded outside karls-
krona in 1982.

so, is it worth to have an army at all?
many people in sweden reckon that our
safety is based upon a strong army...
well, in my opinion, there can be no
safety at all with any kind of army in
the country. let's skip it all and use
the money wiser and guess which country
will invade us first...! (hehe) no,
seriously, of course we are forced to
have a defence system, but i am truly
against a weapon-based one. alternatives
may be a non-weapon local defence or an
army based upon gandhi's ideas.

one more example of the double morality
is that you, in sweden, from the beginn-
ing is taught to show respect to your
fellows and neighbours. then, suddenly,
when you are 17,18 or 19 you are forced
to be educated in killing other people
without them doing you any harm person-
ally. that's what i call exploitation of
power from those in power in a country.
to use the people against another people
almost as in germany in the 1930-40's.

in fact you are able to choose civil-
service freely and everybody who chooses
that gets it. but it's still not good
enough. it should be optional to take
part in a military defence.

so, what do you think about this topic?
is it necessary to keep the army system?
if i don't remember wrongly, there was
a referendum in switzerland a couple of
years ago and there was about 40% of the
swiss people voting NO to their army...
is this right or have i dreamt this?
well, if it's true, i'm kind of impress-
ed... it is quite a large value that
wants the swiss army abolished. how
large is the amount in other countries?
those in power dare not try it!!?
