our specially trained team of demo-
analysists are back with their inter-
pretations of the productions that was
spread to the general public at the
light-phenomena party..
"ELYSION" FROM ORIGO DREAMLINE
------------------------------
pos. at the democompetition: 1

this demo is linked in a similar way
to all those "trackloader" demos on
the amiga (each part is shown for a
short period of time, and meanwhile
the next part is loaded from the disc)
and the parts are stored directly on
a certain track+sector on the disc,
instead of being saved as normal
files.. a really cool way of linking!!

the demo contains:
-----------------
* star sky in multicolor, with text
in front of it
* colourfield calculator
* multicolor 3d starball with 208
plots
* simple colorplotting thing
* fast filled vector with loadsa
objects
* random sierpinsky calculator
* fast fli-fractal calculator

grades and comments:
-------------------
code by bx+mixer+clf of origo .... 9.0

gfx by gordon+crony of origo,??? of
bonzai,commodore .......... 6.0

the demo doesn't feature much graphics
(just fonts and logos), but the gfx
that there is looks neat.

music by zardax of origo ......... 8.0

the demo features two different tunes.
the first tune is played through all
the parts except the last, and the
second tune is played in the last part
and both those tunes are really cool.

design ........................... 8.0

this is one of the things the members
of origo are really good at, i think.
even if the demo doesn't feature much
graphics, it gives you a really color-
ful(!) and good-looking impression
while watching it.

ideas ............................ 7.0

mostly very improved versions of old
ideas (like the fli-fractal calc.),
but still really impressive.
pos.at the democompetiton: 3

the demo contains:
-----------------
* intro: first some introducing stuff,
and then lots of small vector ani-
mations on the text screen and in
the up- and downborder + a dycp
* very big filled vector
* two techtechplotpipes
* rubber vector cube
* "colorful floffy"
* raytracing with 4 objects, updating
every frame
(it doesn't support all the features
of the normal, animated raytracing
with all these shadows and so on..
look at the raytracing animations by
tron/flt, and compare...but this is
cool anyway.)
* plasma vector
* animated vectorscroll (every char
has got its own sprite, and rotates
in different ways)
* credits part

grades and comments:
-------------------
code by depeh+jordan+probe of antic...
.................................. 7.5

gfx by joe+star+depeh of antic ... 6.5

just like the origo demo, this one is
mainly based on showing you the code -
so there's mostly logos and fonts in
this one too (with different quality
in different parts). there are two
bigger pictures by joe, though. the
girl picture in the raytracing part is
cool!

music by zyron+probe of antic .... 6.5

zyron made all the tunes in this demo
except for one. some nice and pleasant
compositions to listen to, even if he
is obviously inspired a lot by some
other composers (moon, for example).
we have to say that we didn't like the
one tune composed by probe at all,
though.

design ........................... 7.5

really good design in this one too,
with lots of effects in the different
parts and some colorful fli stuff and
so on.

ideas ............................ 7.5

the most creative stuff was:
the intro, the rubber vector cube and
the plasma vector - which all showed
some stuff not seen on this machine
before.
pos.at the democompetition: don't know
(was it #4?)

the demo contains:
-----------------
* stylish intro
* cool raytracing animation
* two vector scrollers that's rotating
in the x axis round their middle,
with some ugly color moves inside
the chars
* star sky in multicolor, with a small
raytraced spaceship.. all of it is
joystick controlled
* weird, unserious part
* rubber vector bobs
* realtime multicolor ballwrapper
* cute lego-game with lots of raster
bugs
* gfx-part 1: a hardware scroll that
copies a three colored scroll to one
side of the picture
* gfx-part 2: a scroll "copied into"
the picture
* another cool raytracing animation

grades and comments:
-------------------
code by tron+rowdy+watchman of fair-
light .................... 8.5

gfx by the sarge+ogami+rowdy+tron of
fairlight, crept+creeper of
flash, commodore, ??? ..... 7.0

the two new pictures by the sarge in
the graphics parts are simply really
outstanding. the rest of the demo,
except the intro, is obviously made to
show the coding skills, and doesn't
feature much graphics at all (only
logos and fonts...).

music by kristian r0st0en of shape,
avalon of wrath, reyn ouwe-
hand, ??? ............... 7.0

some nice pieces of music. i don't
think all of the tunes from shape and
the one tune from wrath was released
before, but the other tunes are for
sure ripped.

design ........................... 5.0

the gfx-parts and the big raytracing
animations look great, but some of the
other parts are sort of undesigned
(like the rubber vector bobs part,
which only features those bobs + a
1x1 scroll with the built-in commodore
font + a three color logo). the multi-
color ballwrapper in realtime was
probably really hard to code, but in
our opinion, zodiac's animated single
color ballwrapped looked much much
better, as tron's routine updates too
slow to give a good impression while
watching.
"PARTYTRAP" FROM BEYOND FORCE
-----------------------------
pos.at the democompetition: 2

the demo contains:
-----------------
* intro: single color star sky, with
text in front
* two x-stretching logos, and a dycp
* updated version of the old star-
plotter from their 1989 demo
"phantasie". this time the middle
point for the plots moves around the
screen, but the whole thing still
updates too slow
* a big dycp
* 896 dots plotscroll, with lots of
cool moves
* transforming three color animations
in 8 hires squares
* 3d multicolor starball with 370
plots

grades and comments:
-------------------
code by gremlin+sam+tnt of beyond
force .................... 6.5

some of you obviously disagree with
this grade, as it got a second place
in the democompetition at the party.
in our opinion, the 2 last parts
was great, some other parts was ok,
but some parts (like sam's big dycp-
part) was very uninteresting and old
fashioned.

gfx by max of beyond force, ??? of
blackmail, ???, ??? of atg, jh
(ex-deathsector), redstar of
logic, ??? of mda, ??? of para-
dize, scooby of light + gfx
taken from the games "tetris"
and "hammerfist" .......... 5.0

eeh.. the only piece of graphics in
this demo that's painted by a beyond
force-member is a small logo by max in
the last part! that fact alone tells
you that they haven't changed their
style at all since their previous
demos. some of the graphics in the
transformation part looks cool, but
the rest is just old and boring.

music by page of hoaxers, mixer+zardax
of origo, ??? of moz(ic)art,
harmony prod. of presence,
??? ..................... 7.5

they've ripped some really nice tunes
for this demo, but some of the music
has been used in too many demos before
this one (like the cool tune by page,
for example).

design ........................... 5.0

well, the transforming part actually
looks rather cool - but the rest of
the demo is undesigned, as nearly all
of beyond force's previous work.

ideas ............................ 4.0

as we wrote before, the only parts
that we really liked was the two last
ones (transformer and 3d starball),
and neither of them features any kind
of new ideas - just better coded ver-
sions of the old ideas.
